egyptian asteroid observations (part 1)
these observations are completely hypothetical. they are based on my (the those closest to me's) experiences with each aspect/ placement! please don't take everything i say as predestined, astrology is possible outcomes not guaranteed ones. this is just a starting place for when examining singular objects in an entire galaxy (these are not the only asteroids in affect for you). take what resonates and leave what doesn't!

SOLAR ECLIPSE IN SCORPIO AND LUNAR ECLIPSE IN TAURUS - Megan’s Lab
It’s been awhile since the last time I talked about astrology here, so I guess it’s time to post something. Of course, I am only analyzing my own chart, because that’s what matters to me :D Plus, I am not an expert in Astrology. I am just having fun learning a bit more about it.
I am gonna keep some notes here and come back 6 months later to see if I got it right or not.
First, you need to know some details about my chart, so you understand why/how I came up with my hypothesis.
I have Scorpio in my 4th house with Venus there. Scorpio is ruled by Mars (Traditional Astrology here, so I am not going to use Pluto), my natal Mars is in the 2nd house, in Virgo. If I consider the transits, I am gonna look where Gemini is, because right now Mars is in Gemini - in my chart, 11th house - plus Venus and South Node are in Scorpio in this moment.
I have Taurus in my 10th house conjunct Moon. The ruler of this house is in my 4th house, in Scorpio; moon in opposition to Venus. Right now, Venus is in Scorpio (a venus return); Uranus and North Node in Taurus.
MEGAN’S LAB
Family, home and the past (4th house) are the themes for these 6 months cycle. Time to let go (South Node) of some ideas and opinions. Venus is there, so how/what I love and assets will also play an important role in my life so I can realize and see/make the change.
I have this strong desire to create a family of my own, but I am so scared to try something real, something that would make my dream come true. I am constantly working on my self concept, that I am worthy and that I will have everything I want, but sometimes, it is hard, and I keep repeating the same mistake again. I know I have to open up to love, so that is what I need to work on.
Time to act (Mars) when it comes to values and finances (2nd house). Time to put some effort in this I value the most - family. I need to go out and socialize, be open to people, maybe using technology to create something with someone, be friends with them (Gemini in the 11th house).
This lunar eclipse will affect my 10th house. Time to understand and embrace Taurus energy in this area of my life. A lot going on (MC; Moon there) when it comes to career (I am already feeling it) and public image. Some change (Uranus) might happen during this 6 months cycle.
Time to overcome emotional conflicts, let go of what no longer serves me and embrace change.
For me, lots about romance and career. What about you?

earlier this month, scientific american published this astronomy op-ed about inaccurate and “violent” language in astronomy and it was… really something. I do not know what their editorial standards are over there. I sent it to my dept group chat and we spent almost 3 days roasting it. “black hole is problematic for obvious reasons. how about we instead call it a once in a lifetime opportunity to feel what it’d be like to have your body stretched into a near two-dimensional line of atoms” and “instead of the chicxulub impactor, we could call it an unexpected visit from a celestial guest who offered an opportunity for new forms of life to flourish in ways they never had before” were some highlights.
but anyway, it’s a deeply weird thing to argue because I don’t think the biggest obstacle to public understanding of astronomy is field-specific language, it’s science fiction. it’s unironically science fiction. I have no fucking idea why this isn’t obvious. and the lines here get blurred because there are a lot of astronomers and astrophysicists who write scifi as a hobby. or if not that, they’ll answer questions about the mechanisms of the universe to help aspiring scifi writers who are concerned with accuracy. alastair reynolds, I love you, but you’re not helping.
I bring it up now because I noticed that a lot of people were chattering about the “dark forest hypothesis”, which is sort of an answer to that fermi question about where all the aliens are, if they exist. but it’s from a chixin liu novel. I’m sure there’s one person who takes this idea seriously because astro… takes all kinds, because it only takes one eccentric billionaire to fund your project of digging space junk out of the ocean To Prove Aliens Are Out There For Real… but I don’t think this is anywhere near the consensus. At all. like. astronomy is not a symposium where you sit around asking stupid questions about “what if everyone was Space Hitler?” it’s significantly more boring than that. you ask different kinds of stupid questions, but maybe that one is only applicable to me personally.

Okay Dtk birth chart update!!
(Warning long post!) Please take this with a grain of salt, it's just a very large hypothesis!!!! (Also not proofread)
For his birthday I used shi-ni-shi-ni-koroshi's hypothesis on his birthday. If your interested in any and everything Death the Kid I absolutely recommended their blog.. And honestly I'm always excited to see one of their posts. (I'm going to add a link to their blog at the bottom if you wish to check it out!)
↓↓↓
Anyway so his hypothesized birthday is 18/8/89 and that is the date I used for his birth chart.
Secondly I couldn't find an exact city in Nevada that is close enough to Death City's fictional area. So instead I used Las Vegas due to Death City being called Death Vegas a couple of times in both Soul eater Not and Soul eater.
I left the birth time empty so I can speculate on it further with the poll I ran recently about his rising sign.
Anyway this is what I got.. ( I used Astro- seek if your curious)
Tumblr media
I find this super interesting and very broadening of his character even if it is all just lovely speculation.
Im going to go through the main 5 with an attempt of brief explanations.
Firstly... Sun in Leo - This placement along with Scorpio and Virgo is one of the top ones speculated as his sun sign if you look litterly anywhere. It fits his character especially in the realm of his outward appearance of superiority, pride, and spoiledness.
Moon in Pisces- At first I was a little surprised at this placement due to my assumption that his moon sign would something of a earth due to his rational, and usually calm demeanor or fire because of his passion, and tendency to be quick to anger or irritants when something doesn't go planned. So I don't have many thoughts on this yet besides how it could represent how he is rather okay with people seeing him cry or be upset about things. Could also make him idealistic.
Mercury in Virgo - I saw this coming. His bluntness, usual professional, and calm way of speaking gives it away easily. His thought process is rather practical and logical and he isn't scared to be abrasive when he knows someone needs it. (like Black Star)
Mars in Virgo - His passionate actions towards perfection, being hard working, holding others to high standards. Yea it's all right here.
Venus in Libra - This was super interesting and to me it explains his adoration for aesthetics outside of his Madness of Order. Not to mention how Libra represents the scales and balance and Venus represents love and beauty. Just....a lot is adding up here.
Anyway enough of my thoughts here's shi-ni-shi-ni-koroshi blog link.
Have a good day!!!!

Abstract. This letter presents a new solution for the Tunguska event of June 30th, 1908. The solution has been obtained starting from seismic data, is in fair agreement with the observational evidence, and supports the aster- oidal hypothesis for the origin of the Tunguska cosmic body. It is based on an improved model of the hypersonic flow around a small asteroid in the Earth’s atmosphere.

The first sign of intelligent life beyond Earth?
Tumblr media
Extraterrestrial, by Harvard theoretical physicist Avi Loeb, is certainly provocative. But perhaps not entirely in the way the author intended. While the subject is fascinating, the style and manner of the writing is irksome, replete with faux humility, and arrogant - a book I would only recommend to a science communication class as an example of how not to write.
The science provocation is simple, and perhaps impossible to answer - at least it presents a high degree of difficulty. Avi Loeb argues that in 2017, starting on October 19, 2017, and for 11 consecutive days scientists observed an interstellar object that was created by a civilisation not of this Earth. The object in question is I1/2017 U1, commonly called ‘Oumuamua, discovered by the astronomer Robert Weryk at the Haleakalā Observatory in data collected by the Pan-STARRS telescope, was undoubtedly the first interstellar object ever detected in our solar system. For the record a second interstellar object, 2I/Borisov, was discovered in August 2019. It displays none of the anomalous behaviour of ‘Oumuamua and is described as a rogue comet. The astronomy community agree that ‘Oumuamua was on an extreme hyperbolic trajectory, coming from the direction of the star Vega, reached closest approach to the Sun on September 9, 2017. Loeb’s extraterrestrial thesis rests on data that shows that ‘when ‘Oumuamua sped part way round the Sun, its trajectory deviated from what was expected based on the Sun’s gravitational force alone.’ Loeb hypothesised that ‘Oumuamua was an artificial thin solar sail accelerated by solar radiation pressure. This claim is bolstered, in Loeb’s mind, by the anomalous shape and spin profiles of  ‘Oumuamua. There is scientific consensus that the appearance, shape and composition of the object are interesting - modelling of the light curves suggest that it is tumbling and either of a cigar-shape or disc-shape. These are conjectures as the object was ever only seen as a single pixel - it was a point of light even in the most powerful telescopes. In addition, and not mentioned or referenced in this book, spectra from various telescopes show it as a ‘red’ colour, and emitted no radio signals as observed with limited scanning by either the SETI Allen telescope Array or the Green Bank radio Telescope. So the science is inconclusive, despite Loeb’s strident claim. Without further data, it is not possible to argues further - other than as ill-informed speculation.
The most interesting provocation in this book is then what should we do, or how should we respond to this object. Loeb lambasts the conservatism of the scientific community for their lame acceptance, ‘dangerous, most worrisome choice’, of ‘Oumuamua as 'nothing to see here, time to move along, we’ve learned what we can and we’d best just go back to our old preoccupations’.  In one sense this could be a valid criticism, the current funding of grants favours the conservative over the truly unusual. However, Loeb’s arguments are glib and superficial rehashes of history of science tropes - comparing his reception of the extraterrestrial origins of ‘Oumuamua to the reception of the heliocentric model of Copernicus or Galileo’s telescopic observations of sunspots and the moons of Jupiter demonstrate Loeb’s arrogance and misunderstanding of history and philosophy of science. Arguing that ‘your’ specific hypothesis is worth consideration and by ignoring it scientists are guilty of a category blindspot requires more work than just glibly claiming to be ‘in all humility’ misunderstood.
That brings me to one of the largest criticisms of the book. It is replete with faux humility. We are treated to continual self-aggrandisement of Loeb’s achievements, academic credentials and connections all the while self-proclaiming his humility about his achievements, academic credentials and connections. Included is his claim to inventing there and then the discipline of astro-archeology, ignoring that it, and the closely related topic space-archeology, is an already (approximately 20 years-old) discipline that already has many fine exponents of this in both the academic and public spaces, Dr Space junk vs. the Universe by Alice Gorman, would be a good place for Loeb to start - for many reasons. This is demonstrated in that the only research and researchers mentioned are his own and his research students. The further reading section, which is in any reasonable book and opportunity to point a reader to expanding their reading horizons, contains, in Loeb’s book, nothing but his own first-author and co-authored papers - not a single reference to any other scientist - such crass intellectual arrogance and faux humility. This is an interesting topic, this books fails to bring it justly into the public arena, leaving those without specialist backgrounds to navigate their own way through the specialist and generalist articles. This book reflects poorly on Loeb, Harvard University and the publishers.

Stable foams and unstable muscles – a month of European Space Station science
ISS - International Space Station logo. June 8, 2020 European experiments have been looking at how human muscles react to living in weightlessness or used the lack of gravity’s pull to investigate foams. A recap of the European science run on the International Space Station in May.
Low Sun on the horizon
The Myotones experiment is testing the biomechanical properties of astronauts’ muscles and tendons and how they change during their time in space. The hypothesis is that muscles generally used for posture on Earth will relax more in weightlessness as they are not needed when floating around the Space Station. The experiment uses a novel device called MyotonPro that quickly measures muscle stiffness by emitting a painless pressure pulse and recording how the tissue responds.
Myotones: Measurement of muscle atrophy on the ISS
NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy collected the equipment and Roscosmos cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin measured Chris’ muscles and drew a sample of his blood on 20 May. This was the second session in space for Myotones, with Chris doing a third in three months as researchers want to measure any changes over time. This experiment will help prepare for even longer space missions while keeping astronauts healthy but will also help understand muscular diseases back on Earth. The European Physiology Module inside the Columbus laboratory supports Myotones and results were sent to CADMOS ground control in Toulouse, France, at the end of the session. Five bubble result The Foam-Coarsening experiment ran throughout May with new experiment cartridges. Foams have huge benefits on Earth as they are lighter, offer better insulation and can be just as strong as compact materials. Foams are also a staple in our food and drink, but they collapse quickly on Earth under pressure from gravity. Researching foams in space offers more stability to examine the finer points of their existence.
Foam-Coarsening experiment
The foams come contained in cells and bubbles are generated by moving a piston at high speed in a mixture of water and soap. The foam is observed for up to 100 hours, during which the foam bubbles become larger but less in number. This process slows down over time so measurements are stopped when five bubbles are formed in each cell section. The results are analysed with laser optics and high-resolution cameras. A second batch of Foams cartridges ran with Chris swapping containers out as needed and a quick reset of the video unit. Sunlight and spacecraft The Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor, ASIM, continues to observe lightning from above. Many unseen things are happening above our heads, from gamma ray bursts to elves and sprites and the space-based thunderstorm-hunter outside Columbus monitors Earth at all times, with some exceptions. When spacecraft arrive or leave the Space Station, ASIM is switched off so the sensitive instruments do not get damaged by their bright navigation lights. When the Sun is too low on the horizon its light can saturate ASIM’s sensors too.
Waiting for thunderstorms
ASIM operated in reduced modes for a few days around the departure of Cygnus and the arrival of the Japanese HTV-9 cargo craft and due to the Sun’s “beta angle”. These operations are controlled  from Brussels, Belgium, by the Belgian User Operations Centre.
HTV-9 approaches the International Space Station
The new arrivals that caused ASIM to turn off bought vital supplies and equipment for the astronauts and international partners that run the Space Station. For ESA highlights include a new European Drawer Rack on HTV-9, and replacement LAN cables on the first crewed Dragon spacecraft. Coding complete The educational miniature computers Astro Pi were running student-developed code last month and took 128 017 images, totalling 168 gigabytes of data downloaded. Both challenges for this season have now been completed and it is time for the students to analyse the results. The European Astro Pi Challenge is a school project gives young people the opportunity to write programmes that run on Raspberry Pi computers on the International Space Station. Meanwhile in the background… A number of experiments ran continuously in the background without much need for astronaut intervention or commands from ground control. A simple sounding experiment called CANES is storing grape vines in the Station’s freezer to determine whether ligneous plants could be grown in space. It could also lead to the discovery of new biologically-active products that would be of interest to the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
Dosis radiation monitor
A number of radiation detectors dotted around the Station are recording levels of cosmic rays to create a map of these harmful rays and help design more radiation-resistant spacecraft of the future. Meanwhile the MATISS-2.5 sample containers are testing water resistant surfaces to see if they offer anti-bacterial properties. Data set selection
This is the first in a data science specialization, Data Analysis and Interpretation from Wesleyan University entitled Data Management and Visualization. I must pick a data set that I wish to study; this data set will be used for the entirety of the specialization.
The course offers five distinct data sets or I may choose my own. I have decided to use one of the existing choices. It is a data set specific to a study of the craters of Mars in 2011, by Stuart James Robbins of the University of Colorado, Boulder. Links to the study, codebook and data set are in the References section at the bottom of this post.
I am interested in the physical characteristics of Martian craters, specifically diameter (DIAM_CIRCLE_IMAGE) and depth (DEPTH_RIMFLOOR_TOPOG). The morphology category data (MORPHOLOGY_EJECTA_1 through 3) is an interesting feature, however the data is overwhelmingly incomplete and not robust enough for sustained analysis and difficult to interpret based on my lay background in the field. The features are small enough to be inclusive, however I will be limiting my analysis to the following data fields:
1.      CRATER_ID: Crater ID for internal use, based upon the region of the planet (1/16ths), the “pass” under which the crater was identified, and the order in which it was identified.
2.      LATITUDE_CIRCLE_IMAGE: Latitude from the derived center of a non-linear least-squares circle fit to the vertices selected to manually identify the crater rim (units are decimal degrees North).
3.      LONGITUDE_CIRCLE_IMAGE: Longitude from the derived center of a non-linear least-squares circle fit to the vertices selected to manually identify the crater rim (units are decimal degrees East).
4.      DIAM_CIRCLE_IMAGE: Diameter from a non-linear least-squares circle fit to the vertices selected to manually identify the crater rim (units are km).
5.      DEPTH_RIMFLOOR_TOPOG: Average elevation of each of the manually determined N points along (or inside) the crater rim (units are km).
a. Depth Rim: Points are selected as relative topographic highs under the assumption they are the least eroded so most original points along the rim.
b. Depth Floor: Points were chosen as the lowest elevation that did not include visible embedded craters.
The raw data file may be viewed here: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/PittBuzz/DataManagement-and-Int/main/marscrater_data.csv
My initial analysis will be to determine if there is an association between crater diameter and depth in kilometers. Further I will conduct analysis to determine if there is a secondary association between the noted characteristics and crater location, time permitting. An additional consideration will have to be given to adapting any geo-spatial programs for Mars-specific coordinates.
Google Scholar has identified previous research on the characteristics of Mars craters obtained from the Mars Orbital Laser Altimeter. The study is listed below in the References section.
Crater studies date to the 1990s and earlier however the datasets are not relevant for the scope of this course.
An initial null hypothesis is that crater diameter and depth do not have a direct correlation to each other. While H1 does posit a direct correlation.
