Robb Stark, The King in The North, Lord of Winterfell, King of the Trident, Wolf King, The King Who Lost The North. "I couldn't release the Kingslayer even if I wanted to. My lords would never abide it." "Your lords made you their king." "And they could unmake me just as easy." Robb Stark and Catelyn Stark Seems appropriate to showcase King Robb in the new Stark colour scheme, considering I'm going to be repainting an entirely new starter set of the coldboys.

Betrothal portrait (miniature) of Catelyn Tully commissioned by Brandon Stark in 282 AC, just a few months before the Rebellion. After Brandon's passing, she was quickly married to Eddard Stark to preserve the alliance.

Ser Arys Oakheart, The Queenmaker
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I will not be remembered as Ser Arys the Unworthy. I will not soil my cloak."
Cut to Always Sunny title card: Ser Arys soils his cloak. My second take on the white knight, this one more focused on his time in Dorne. As I've said before, I think I'm in the minority for enjoying Arys' slightly random one chapter - I've always viewed the core idea of ASOIAF as a fantasy story told by the people usually pushed to the margins - eg instead of Robb Stark, avenging warrior hero, we get the story of his mother balancing worry and pride. I view Arys' chapter as the most literal take on this - we get "boring white guy in scary exotic orientalist locale", then he gets killed off and we see the much more complex story from the perspective of characters he wrote off as stereotypes. Of course the counterpoint to this gambit is that it puts a lot of pressure on you to not lean into any orientalism in the rest of the story which... well.
The mini is a Golden Company one, I love it for the mix of armour and fabrics. Kingsguard white, white, and more white is always a challenge to get looking good, but I'm happy with this one. A little bit of red Dornish sand on his cloak to tie him in to the setting.

Looks like CMON are publishing a new ASoIaF skirmish miniatures range in the style of their main ASoIaF wargame, might be of interest to @a-song-of-art-and-fire!
Looks like they've made an actual JonCon and saved a lot of freehand pain by actually sculpting the griffons on
Tumblr media
They also seem to have fancast Donald Sutherland as Jon Arryn I guess!

‘Mech post in coming!
But first! I took a break from mech posting to play my other hyper fixation, A Song of Ice and Fire miniatures game. Which I have now convinced two of my best friends to play through bribery and silly games.
Tumblr media
Cause they are goofy and fun I haven’t taken photos of them in my light box just on my work table.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am most proud of my commander, Harmen Uller for my Martell army. It’s such a fun quick game and it leads to really silly moments like an archer standing off against a giant.
Tumblr media
It’s just a real nice game and it’s a way to express my ASOIAF hyper obsession

November Mini Challenge 25/30
Something new for today, a Song of ice and Fire mini.
Tumblr media
A freefolk hunter guy. I don't know much about the Game of Thrones lore but friend has told me they're like dudes who chill out in the wilderness and there's a whole bunch of different types. I quite like the look of the Thenns minis.

“Tyrell swords will make me king. Rowan and Tarly and Caron will make me king, with axe and mace and warhammer. Tarth arrows and Penrose lances, Fossoway, Cuy, Mullendore, Estermont, Selmy, Hightower, Oakheart, Crane, Caswell, Blackbar, Morrigen, Beesbury, Shermer, Dunn, Footly ... even House Florent, your own wife's brothers and uncles, they will make me king. All the chivalry of the south rides with me, and that is the least part of my power.” -Renly Baratheon
Tackling Renly and his 7 Rainbow guards is probably the most stressed I’ve ever been painting minis. I really really really wanted to do them justice. They’re described so beautifully in the books and they sadly didn’t get to make it into the show. So I really wanted to get the little details right for my favorite characters.
Maybe they will get a happier ending on my tabletop then they’ve gotten so far in the books.

Illyrio Mopatis, Magister of the Free City of Pentos. The Lord of Cheese. "Not all that a man does is done for gain. Believe as you wish, but even fat old fools like me have friends and debts of affection to pay."
Big Pentoshi Santa Claus. A simple model, but touched by a little of Varys pastel pink. Enjoyed touching up the flush on his face.

Maelys I Blackfyre, Captain General of The Golden Company
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The captain-general's tent was made of cloth-of-gold and surrounded by a ring of pikes topped with gilded skulls. One skull was larger than the rest, grotesquely malformed. Below it was a second, no larger than a child's fist. Maelys the Monstrous and his nameless brother."
I'm ashamed to say Maelys is a character I'd largely written off as a "mummer's dragon", a cartoonishly evil horse-punching cousin-killing giant to give the Westerosi Greatest Generation a monster to slay. It was only thanks to the great analysis by @mylestoyne I really considered that Maelys is largely a character in Tyrion's chapters, so of course he's a reflection of Tyrion's themes - even with all the hallmarks of Westerosi martial masculinity, he's utterly reviled for being disabled and for "kin-slaying" in utero.
The miniature is adapted from a Bloody Mummer, presumably Zollo - I really love him for the big beefy look, George's giant characters generally give the impression of Andre the Giant style gigantism, with plenty of fat over their musculature. I of course added the second head, my sculpting skills are rusty to say the least, but I certainly prefer the vestigial look to some of the cartoony "second smaller perfectly formed head" art I've seen out there. I've also given him Blackfyre, which I always like to picture as a full fantasy type sword.

A long time ago I treated myself to the #asoiaf starter box and am FINALLY starting my painting journey of these minis starting with #stark Great Jon Umber. Have to say, the quality of the Mini is pretty decent despite what I’d heard about them and I love the sculpt. Excited to paint up the rest of the #housestark army and maybe even play a game! #miniaturepainting #gameofthrones #paintedminiatures #painted #painting #miniatures #coolminiornot #minipainting #art #armypainter #cuttlefishcolors #travellingpainter (at Kuwait City) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoWCfYjI9cr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
