I'm not the anon who you were responding to, but I found your blog through the thing about your 12-element paradigm. I'm fascinated, largely because the non-traditional 8 are (mostly) all aspects I work with, but I hadn't considered them as elements?

Idk what I'm asking specifically, but I would love to know m9re about how you came to look at things this way and how you use it in the day-to-day practice!

When I started really thinking about the elements I was drawn to things that I interacted with on a daily basis to make it easier to incorporate into my day to day practice (ie: thinking about things and stuff)

I think I went into this a bit more on this post but I broke them down into three categories: The Touchables, The Untouchables, and The Effectors. Touchables is pretty standard as it encompasses the elements you can reach out and touch. I mark them as Fire, Water, Air and Earth (Disclaimer: Fire Hot. Please don't touch fire okay? lol) but these are the elements you can actually touch and have a physical reaction register as you connect with them.

Untouchables are the elements are kind of a mixture between the effectors and the touchables as they CAN effect you but you cannot reach out and touch them the same way you could the first set.I mark them as Light, Dark, Time and Space. These are more sensations as you can feel the presence of Light or the absence of it in Darkness. You are aware of the passage of Time and your presence in a physical Space that your body occupies.

Effectors are the elements that can change the directions of a person's path but cannot be truly influenced by a practitioner overall. I mark them as Luck, Fate, Order and Chaos. They effect and influence the way our lives go. It can be tricky to discern between them when starting out: Was it Luck or Fate that you met the right person at the right time to get the job of your dreams? Do your rituals for your practice really need to follow the Order of the steps as written or would you get the same result winging it in the Chaos?

As for how I work with them it's very casually. Mostly notating how and when I feel them around me in my day to day life. Sometimes its squinting into the halogen light bulbs at work (or admiring the chandeliers) the quiet that takes over in the dark when I curl up in bed with my Kindle to read before bed. The whoomph of my gas stove lighting up, or sitting on my front porch swing to listen to the rain. the uneven rocks under my bare feet as I go to check the mail to the whips of wind that race along the parking lot as I walk to my car after my shift at work.

To me the elements are a lot of little experiences adding up over time and the balances they maintain when working all together. :) -oOo-

Now as for discovering your own elemental set(s) to work with, I would suggest taking some time every day to really pay attention to the things around you. The sensations you feel and take in as you experience life.

Next I would say investigate some Pop Culture influences and see what other people have utilized in their elemental systems. Why does Pokemon use Poison/ Fairy/ Steel Type? Why does Avatar include Metal/Lava/Blood Bending? Would Gravity, Ink, Blood or Sound be a viable element for you to work with?

I say this because I almost included Blood into one of my elements to work with but I couldn't find a way to make it work with the sets that I had so it didn't make the cut.

Some Ideas of things to consider as Elements: +Metal/Steel +Spirit/Aether +Gravity +Sound +Wood +Color/Light Spectrum +Gasses/Plasma +Energy +Crystal

Some questions to ask yourself: +What do I think is missing from the four elements that most people work with that I am looking for in my own practice? +How many Elements would be too many for me to feasibly work with? +Could these elements combine together? What elements would they make if they did?

1) Are you named after anyone?

My middle name was given to me in honor of my great-grandmother (one of her children was also named after her and kept that name her whole life, so I don’t feel bad about the fact that I’m changing both my first and middle names legally 😁) (even if no one else had been named after her there still wouldn’t be any reason for me to feel bad about changing my name to better suit me) 😁😁😁

2) Last time you cried?

A couple days ago in the lead up to a traumatic experience that I won’t go into but on the whole I don’t mind crying!

3) Do you have kids?

No, and I don’t plan on passing on my genes, but I can see myself potentially raising a kid in the distant future. There’s a very good chance that I’ll never be a parent, and I’m extremely fine with that. I think the ideal parenthood situation involves people who are adamantly certain in their desire to be parents (and who are prepared to respect the autonomy and complete personhood of their children) I have lots of other thoughts on parenthood, but I’m veering away from the question 😄

4) What sports do you play/have you played?

My primary sports are tennis and basketball and I really miss playing them. I played them frequently growing up and now it’s been quite a while since I played either, though the last time I played basketball was almost a year ago and it was a satisfyingly homoerotic experience and I played well under pressure, so at least I have that to sustain me until the next time I can play

5) Do you use sarcasm?

I do, but pretty infrequently, and generally only with people who I’m confident will understand and not be confused or hurt by it

6) What’s the first thing you notice about people?

If it’s an in-person meeting, probably their height, mannerisms, accent, facial expressions if I can see their face; if it’s a text-based meeting, probably their writing/spelling/grammar/punctuation style, use of emojis and/or emoticons, etc. + degree of formality for both in-person and online meetings

7) What’s your eye color?

My eyes are a bit of a kaleidoscope of colors, but the most dominant color is green

8) Scary movies or happy ending?

I don’t watch many scary movies, but I can enjoy a scary movie with a (relative to the plot) happy ending, like The Blue Hour directed by P’Nuchy Anucha Boonyawatana 😄 The Blue Hour isn’t extremely scary, but I’ll take any opportunity to encourage people to watch that film 😁

9) Any talents?

I love to sing ☺️

10) Where were you born?

U.S.

11) What are your hobbies?

Writing (predominately fan fiction and poetry, I’d like to journal and write poetry more often), engaging with Thai media, and learning languages (Spanish, Thai, and Japanese are my primary target languages) are currently my main hobbies

Yes 🥰 Luna is a wonderful doggy whom I love very much

13) How tall are you?

This is an @arisprite appreciation post that I’ve been meaning to do for a while. These are all pieces they’ve done to illustrate my fics (most of which I commissioned, which is one of my most favorite uses of money to date) and every single one delights me so, so much. Even if I have an idea in my head of what I’m asking for, I’m always thrilled by the detail and character that comes through in the final art.

In order:

The kiss scene in The Burial Grounds: Just people falling in love in a coffee shop surrounded by rainbows, as one does.

Chapter 7 of Ice: The poster of Wei Wuxian that Lan Wangji keeps in his apartment (I pointed to Jason Brown for inspiration and it worked beautifully.)

Chapter 9 of Letters: Wei Wuxian picking up sword training again after returning to Lotus Pier post-canon. In the story, this drawing is done by Nie Huaisang.

Chapter 4 of Company: Young teenage Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian having serious late-night best friend conversations, with Little Fish curled up by their heads.

Chapter 6 of Patriarch: Yiling Patriarch Lan Wangji and his uncle hanging out with some rabbits. Lan Qiren’s expression in this one is so perfect.

The end of Betweentimes: Wei Wuxian just after waking up. Lan Wangji’s “oh” moment.

The last scene of Song: Jiang Yanli, Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng, and Jin Zixuan all cuddled together on the dock at Lotus Pier at night.

KuroFai Olympics Journal #4

Day 4 (August 31st, 2023).

I had a busy day today, and I worried there would be no entry today. But actually, reading the rest of "how it was always meant to end" was just what I needed to cry I mean to curse that is, to RELAX. What a showstopper of a fic, seriously.

Anyway, I'm now turning my sights to the next tarot card I plan to get through. Next up, I've chosen "The Hermit." Why? Because I don't know anything about this card and I'd like to learn.

I liked what Biddy Tarot had to say about this card. It's a really interesting one to think about in a KuroFai context, for sure. Partially I'm wanting to gently poke fun at how these two are both idiots sometimes and this card is supposed to represent wisdom. It's also interesting considering the solitary nature of the traditional hermit figure on the card.

The meanings of this card have me very eager to start reading fic! But since I've already read some fic today, I will choose to start my venture with "The Hermit" prompt by looking at our art entry. 🎨🖌️

The rabbits are not pets, so Lan Qiren does not have a favorite. It is only that one of last year’s kits was born weaker than the others and raising it fairly required extra attention, so now it knows to nose at his sleeve for the packet of vegetable peelings concealed there. “Do not be wasteful,” he announces to nobody in particular. None of the cooks have demanded an explanation of him, and they now set aside the rabbit-appropriate scraps without being asked, but it comforts him to have the explanation prepared.

The bolder rabbits do not fear strangers, and three of them have already approached to sniff at Lan Wangji’s outstretched hands. “They have been very well looked after,” he says softly. “Uncle—”

“There will be too many for the meadow soon,” Lan Qiren observes. “You must take some away with you.” He is surrounded now, the kitchen scraps drawing great interest as they always do. He keeps his attention on the creatures, to ensure that there is no discord over the treats.

“Sizhui will like them,” Lan Wangji murmurs. One of the largest rabbits has made herself at home in his lap, and he strokes two fingers between her ears and on down her back. “Uncle,” he says again, head bent, “there is something I should like to tell you.”
