A police force which had to review more than 3,500 Clare’s Law applications has referred itself to the police watchdog over another failure it has identified in how they were handled.
It has emerged a number of women were physically harmed following failures relating to Clare’s Law applications at Wiltshire Police.
The law, which was introduced in England and Wales in 2014, allows police to disclose someone’s history of abusive behaviour to those who may be at risk from them.
In October, the force launched a review after a small number of applications were analysed and found to include failures to disclose information to those at risk from domestic violence.
The new failure is said to have happened late last year while the review only covers cases from April 2015 until August 2023.
The force said on Thursday that the review identified 25 failures in the service, with two of these failures resulting in non-fatal physical harm to two adult women.
A 26th failure relating to a common assault on an adult woman in late 2023 was identified on Friday, police confirmed.
Of the other failures, it is believed 11 are administrative ones and 12 are service failures, for example where information should have been disclosed or where inadequate research was undertaken.
One member of police staff is suspended from the force and is the subject of an independent investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) watchdog.
Chief Constable Catherine Roper said: “Yesterday, I updated our communities on the progress of our urgent review of 3,582 Clare’s Law applications.
“After this announcement was made, I was informed of an additional incident where a potential failure in our service towards the end of 2023 may have contributed to another person being harmed.
“This service failure relates to a Clare’s Law application made after the timeframe of the review (April 2015-August 2023).
“However, I can confirm that we have made an immediate referral into our Professional Standards Department, as per our policy, and we have also referred this matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
“Whilst it is crucial that we prioritise the support to the victim and preserve the integrity of both the ongoing criminal investigation and the conduct referrals we have now made, I can confirm that this was an incident of common assault against an adult female.
“From the moment our failures within the Clare’s Law scheme came to light, I vowed I would be wholly transparent and honest with our communities. That is why I wanted to update you on this latest failure as soon as I could.
“As ever, I will keep you fully informed of any additional issues connected to this matter.”
It means the force has now referred itself to the police watchdog five times over the failings.
Clare’s Law was created by Michael Brown following the death of his daughter Clare Wood, 36, from Yorkshire.
Ms Wood was murdered by her ex-boyfriend George Appleton in 2009. An inquest into her death revealed that Appleton had a history of violent behaviour against women, which Ms Wood was not informed of.

“Race War” searches grew massively this year, peaking in May at 118k searches per month a 3x jump from earlier in the year.
The recent rise of white nationalism has justifiably scared many on both the left and the right. Escalating rhetoric from White Nationalist groups has pushed the idea of “Race War” back into the public consciousness, especially amongst WN and WN adjacent communities.
What follows is a look at Google Search Trends around the search phrase “Race War,” with some analysis around how political affiliation correlates with likelihood to use Google this phrase.

New findings released from world's most powerful solar telescope New research conducted as part of the science verification phase of the Visible Spectropolarimeter (ViSP) instrument at the National Science Foundation's Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope is the first to use data from this instrument. It is hoped that the work will pave the way for future studies to enable a better understanding of the potential risks to key power and communications infrastructure. The study, which is published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, was the result of an exciting collaboration between the U.K. and the National Science Foundation and marks an important milestone for the astronomical community and this ground-breaking telescope. Decades of work The Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope is a four-meter solar telescope based in the island of Maui in Hawai'i. It is the largest and most powerful solar telescope in the world and was built as part of a multilateral international collaboration that began nearly three decades ago. It aims to improve our understanding of the sun and its role in space weather events. STFC is a key partner in the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope collaboration and led a consortium of research organizations as part of the design phase of the telescope to develop cameras that were used to record data in this latest study. STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) Space also collaborated with Observatory Sciences Ltd on the design of the control system for the telescope, which is essential to ensuring accurate positioning and image quality. Monitoring global risks Furthering our knowledge of the sun is important for understanding how space weather events could affect key technologies such as electrical and communication networks. These events, driven by solar activity, could disrupt vital technological systems such as positioning and communications services and spacecraft operations and are already listed on the U.K. government's risk register. Researchers led by Dr. Ryan French, a former Ph.D. student at University College London's Mullard Space Science Laboratory, utilized the unprecedented signal to noise ratio of the Visible Spectro-Polarimeter (ViSP) instrument on the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope. This ability of the telescope enabled them to investigate the propagation of a phenomena known as an umbral flash within the lower solar atmosphere. Umbral flashes are instances of brightening in the sun's chromosphere which travel via a sequence of waves and shocks. The ViSP instrument is unique to the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, which measures solar activity by expanding incoming light into its components like a prism to create a "rainbow." From this it can pick out almost any combination of wavelengths to record. The data gathered by ViSP in the study provides new insights into how waves can travel in the low solar atmosphere, providing a small glimpse of what future data from the instrument will achieve. Hopes for the future Dr. Ryan French, now a solar physicist at the U.S. National Solar Observatory, said, "It's been an exciting time to join the National Solar Observatory, and a privilege to be among the first people to publish results from a transformative facility like the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope. Our understanding of the solar atmosphere has progressed a lot in the last decade, as we begin to enter a golden age of solar physics with observations from the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, ESA's Solar Orbiter and NASA's Parker Solar Probe. "Without the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope, we would not be able to measure the variations of the magnetic field in the Sun's chromosphere we observed in this study. This data is just a taster of the capabilities ViSP has to offer, and it is exciting to think what further discoveries the solar physics community will make with the telescope." Six soaps in Pride colors, using our popular Simple and Clean formula! Straightforward and unassuming, this soap smells pleasantly of freshly washed cotton sheets and white tea, and has just a bit of witch hazel and colloidal oatmeal to make it pleasant on your skin.
This set makes a great gift, but it could just be a bit of Pride merch for folks sick of rainbow capitalism and would rather their dollars stay in the community. (We're queer ourselves!)
Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Stearate, Sorbitol, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Laurate, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, Sodium Thiosulfate, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Beeswax, Witch Hazel Extract, Colloidal Oatmeal, Fragrance, Cosmetic Grade Mica

Stories from summer camp pt. 1
This is part 1 of my stories from summer camp series - for better context you can check out
Masterpost | Next part
1) Live your musical passion: What’s summer camp?
In Denmark there’s a specific tradition for having schools for adults without any curriculum. These school will instead focus on common knowledge skills and community. These schools are called Folkehøjskoler which translates directly to Folk High Schools. Given the close resemblance to the American name for the school system for 9th-12th grade (high school) I’d chosen not to go by this name in the text in hope of not confusing people. Instead, I’ll be calling it a summer camp, since the classes I was taken was in a period where most people have summer vacation in Denmark.
The school I went to specializes in music and musical topics where you can go and learn/explore different skills within a musical context together with other music loving adults of all ages. For this specific course the age range was between 17,5 years old to well above 75. The summer camp was in fact two different weekly stays combined so in the first week I’d have one class (this year it was being a singer in a Pop Rock cover band) and the next week I’d have another class (which this year was producing my own music in Appleton Live).
In between classes there’d be workshops, jam sessions, open mic events and other evening events you could attend and in the middle of the day there would be time for you to hang out with your fellow campers.
Every morning would start by the attendees and teachers singing a song together and then a teacher shares their passion about a topic.
Kitchen staff would cook us food several times a day (three main courses being breakfast, lunch and dinner together with eleven coffee, cake at 3.30 and then midnight sandwiches), and tons of professional gear we could attend at any time of day (although as you may learn in a later chapter there were one exception).

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you! get to know your mutuals and followers
5 things that make me happy
1. Lloyd Garmadon: kinda obvious. He's just my sweet, traumatized green boi 🥰 Pretty sure he's why I'm obsessed with the color ✨ green ✨ Lloyd tends to be the thing I hyper-fixate on the most (see n. 4)
2. Pokemon: literally the rest of my list can just be specific Pokemon that Ive bonded with over the years. Some being Umbreon, Haxorus, Ampharos, Appleton, Tinkaton, Meowscarada, and Hisuian Typhlosion.
3. The Aromantic Community: thanks to Jaiden Animations I've learned of the term Aromantic. The realization of "Hey, that's sounds exactly like me!?" And the relief I felt. For so long I felt like I was falling behind. Other girls around my age were getting married/having kids. I felt like I need to find a man, settle down, etc. But now, not anymore. I've heard of the saying "life isn't a race" but I really didn't feel it until Jadien's video. Now I know that I don't wanna marry or have kids (but I'd adopt in a heartbeat if I was financially able). Oh, and I like women.
4. Mumble from the movie Happy Feet: if you haven't seen/heard of Happy Feet then NEED to watch it! Mumble is such a great representation of Neurodivergency. I personally didn't realize that I was neurodivergent until last year but when I look back on my life I can see things about me that point to it. Hyperfixations (Ninjago and Pokemon mostly), bad eye contact, and failure to pick on social cues most of the time are the main things. I'm pretty sure I was bullied but it was never directly to me (like it was mainly just ppl talking about me behind my back). After learning about my neurodivergence I can't see the movie nor Mumble the same way again.
5. My fidget dragon toy: this one is new. I got him only a few days ago. I love him! He's like those fidget spinners but DRAGON! I take him everywhere I go! Worth the money! I got him here:
I named mine Albert and he's black/emerald green

Séances At The White House? Why These First Ladies Turned To The Occult
From Mary Todd Lincoln to Jane Pierce, They Were Swept Up in the Spiritualism Movement of the 19th Century—a Belief That Living Souls Can Contact the Dead.
— By Parissa DJangi | April 24, 2024
Tumblr media
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, sits with his wife Mary Todd and three children. Mary Todd turned to Spiritualism, the belief that departed souls can interact with the living, to process her grief after the death of her second youngest son, William, in February 1862. The White House has hosted its share of prominent people: politicians, writers, musicians, scientists––and mediums.
Reflecting Americans’ belief in spirits unseen, some of the country’s first families held séances at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. They nursed their grief with the help of mediums, demonstrating that séances aren’t only about the deceased; they’re also about the living.
Spiritualism Comes To The White House
On January 6, 1853, newly elected president Franklin Pierce and his wife Jane experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. Their only surviving child, 11-year-old Bennie, died in a horrific train accident in Massachusetts.
Jane Pierce struggled to adapt to life without her child. She even WROTE him letters as she secluded herself in her private quarters in the White House.

As Pierce fiercely mourned her son, a new religious movement took root across the country: Spiritualism, or the belief that the living could communicate with the dead. As historian Molly McGarry wrote in Ghosts of Futures Past, “a faith in Spiritualism and the experience that the dead continued to connect with the living” resonated in an America with an extensive mourning culture and “allowed some 19th-century Americans a new way of being in the world.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Letter from Jane Means (Appleton) Pierce to her deceased son, Benjamin Pierce, 1853 January 30
Spiritualism’s popularity stemmed partly from 15-year-old Maggie and 11-year-old Katie Fox, sisters from Hydesville, New York. Though the pair lived relatively ordinary lives with their large family, they soon began making extraordinary claims. In 1848, they alleged that mysterious rappings in their family’s home came from a supernatural source: discarnate spirits. The sisters insisted they could communicate with them, interpreting the noises as a spectral form of Morse code.
The Fox sisters’ allegations electrified Americans eager to connect with deceased loved ones—individuals such as Jane Pierce. Fascinated by their narrative, she invited them to Washington.
No one knows what exactly occurred between Pierce and the Fox sisters. But the White House session may have mirrored the Fox sisters’ other séances, which commenced with guests sitting in a circle, holding one another’s hands, and reciting a prayer. Then, the rappings would begin, and the sisters would allegedly lift the veil on the spirit world.
The Lincolns’ Many Tears
National and personal tragedy converged in the thick of the Civil War when Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln buried one of their children. On February 20, 1862, 11-year-old Willie Lincoln died in the White House after battling typhoid fever for weeks.
The boy’s death devastated both his parents, but Mary Todd Lincoln’s grief was especially debilitating. She stayed in bed for weeks and couldn’t bear to attend his funeral. But even when she rejoined society, Lincoln longed for a reunion with her deceased son.
Tumblr media

So, she turned to mediums. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and Lincoln biographer David Herbert Donald used surviving documents to calculate that the first lady may have held eight séances in the White House.
One occurred in December 1862, when Lincoln hosted the medium Nettie Colburn for a séance in the Red Room.
Colburn later claimed that the president joined the séance––and that, in her trance-like state, she didn’t limit herself to communicating with Willie Lincoln. Instead, the spirits she channeled urged the president to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, which they predicted would “be the crowning event of his administration and his life.”
Tumblr media

Sessions with Colburn and other mediums stoked the first lady’s faith that souls survive death. She even saw Willie in her dreams. “Willie lives,” she told her half-sister Emilie Todd Helm. “He comes to me every night and stands at the foot of the bed with the same sweet, adorable smile he always has had.”
The Last Gasp of Spiritualism
The White House was again in a state of mourning during the presidency of Calvin Coolidge in 1924. Coolidge’s 16-year-old son Calvin played a game of tennis––but he wasn’t wearing socks with his shoes. A blister formed on a toe and festered, and the infection turned septic. He died on July 7.
So, did the Coolidges employ a medium to contact their son? Harry Houdini, the famous illusionist, believed they had. He deplored spiritualism, séances, and mediums, all of which underwent a revival in the wake of World War I and the influenza pandemic. He was on a quest to expose mediums and psychics as the charlatans he believed them to be.
Tumblr media
Illusionist Harry Houdini (left) spent the last years of his life debunking paranormal claims. In 1926, he testified in a Congressional hearing considering a ban on fortune-tellers. Photograph By National Photo Company Collection, Library of Congress
His greatest show in 1926 was when he testified in a Congressional hearing considering a ban on fortune-tellers. During the hearing, it was alleged that Jane Coates, a medium in Washington, D.C., had said, “I know for a fact that there have been spiritual séances held at the White House with President Coolidge and his family.”
Coolidge’s friends vehemently denied the allegation, drawing a clear line between what was acceptable––and what wasn’t. Séances, it seemed, crossed the line of respectability in a changing America.
By World War II, spiritualism no longer attracted the acolytes it once had, and White House séances became a curious footnote in history.

Rural Wisconsin communities struggle to get candidates to run for local offices
by Sophia Voight / Appleton Post-Crescent, Wisconsin Watch March 30, 2024 On April 2, voters across Wisconsin flocked to the polls to cast a ballot for a number of local elections, but for some races, there was no one to vote for. A number of local races across Wisconsin — especially in rural areas — had no candidates, leaving voters with no choice over who will represent them on the local…

Is Ocala Florida A Good Place To Live?
Tumblr media
Nestled in the heart of Florida, Ocala is a city that boasts a small-town charm and a rich equestrian history.
With a rapidly growing population of approximately 60,000 people, Ocala is a mid-sized city that provides a balance of urban conveniences and a relaxed lifestyle.
With more and more people relocating to the sunshine state, Ocala has become an attractive option.
But the question remains…is Ocala Florida, a good place to live? In this post, we’ll explore the city’s pros and cons to help you make an informed decision about whether Ocala is the right fit for you.
First, lets take a look at some of the positives associated with the town.
Family Friendly Located in huge Marion County, Ocala nonetheless has a small-town feel.
