ok so i've been thinking about this scene for a while. because well look at it like oh my GODDD this guy. bro dropped an entire monologue about how sorry he is (which as we find out is bullshit) on this kid.. i hate this guy so much this scene is great.

and like. the other day. i had a realization. because like, when yuriy shows up, volkov is a LOT more outwardly antagonistic towards him. obviously from an out of universe perspective this is the point where it's made clear that he still sucks ass, i think there's a couple ways you can view it (though i mean, it's probably a mix of the two), both of which i think are really interesting.

the first is the fact that if there's anyone who could see through volkov's bullshit, it's yuriy. there's no need to bother with the facade here. the second is the fact that like.. yuriy, bryan, and sergey tried to take on bega by themselves and well, look at how that turned out. the world champion is one thing, but yuriy can't do shit. he's nowhere near the level of the justice 5, and he doesn't really have the presence needed to damage bega's reputation.

i've talked about the theme of public perception and how it can be manipulated in g-rev, and that's what makes volkov such a great villain here. bsb's villains as a whole very much Not bladers but with g-rev volkov i feel like it's a step beyond that. it's about social power, it's about influence, it's about turning the world to his side.

then they totally ditched that angle but shhhhh i'm pretending i don't see that rn

planning:

jesper’s recap of the crows’ failed mission was one of my favourite parts of the last s&b ep and i knew i wanted to gif it in a way that featured the scenes he was referring to mostly bc in my head i got the vibes of the luis recapping sequence in the ant man movies lmaoo. originally i was going to do a ten gif (540 x 350 px) set that you read from up to down but that seemed too boring and i wasn’t sure the quality would come out great with the dark scenes so i thought i should try out something more creative. and it seemed like the type of edit that needed to be just as fun as the quote anyway. i’ve been meaning to try out the multiple-different-sized-gifs-in-one-canvas layout that’s been trending so i settled on that but boyyy was that a process that involved a LOT of simple math which i am ridiculously poor at!!! but i looked at this post for reference and help

usually when i plan a set i write down a few lines of the idea/theme in my notes app and then match them with the corresponding scenes but this time i actually drew out the thing bc i had to see for myself which layout would look the best and i also wasn’t sure that i liked the dimensions in the example post (i ended up using this post as inspo for the first big gif). anyway here’s the terrible Art (i can’t believe this paper was still lying around):

i’m not gonna go into detail about the actual gifmaking process bc it’s not very interesting - just the usual screencapping/colouring/saving steps. i will say tho that looking for the scenes took the longest bc i’m not familiar enough w the show to know where the ones i wanted were (only confident with ship scenes rip) and screencapping was the Actual Worst bc i had to use a new program that’s compatible with the version of the show i downloaded. and i’m still using this program which is why i’m even slower at getting stuff out if anyone was wondering :))

arranging:

so the steps for putting the gifs onto 1 canvas are to make sure they’re all the same number of frames, to convert them into smart objects that you can move onto the canvas (which should be in timeline mode), and of course to make sure the canvas is the right size to contain them all. you can divide up the canvas between any number of gifs as long as they total to the height and width (always 540 px) of the big gif, and account for the spaces in between each gif (which is 4 px). so if you want 3 gifs of different sizes next to each other, you need to make sure that their widths combined equal 540 minus 8 as there are two spaces between the three of them. my example for the row below is 130 + 272 + 130 = 532, and when accounting for/adding the 2 x 4 px spaces, the total amounts to 540. 

this was a lot of trial and error bc i’m bad at this kind of easy math and honestly just typing this up took me forever (but if anyone actually uses these instructions it might be worth it). so basically i calculated the sizes i wanted then created the gifs + arranged them accordingly and went back and forth in case i made mistakes. there *is* still one glaring mistake in the gifset which is that the small gifs in the above row don’t line up with the small gifs in the first big gif but i’m too lazy to resize and re-upload. do keep that in mind though bc it looks so much cleaner when done properly. otherwise i must say it was very pleasing to see them all come together

posting:

i posted this close to 5 pm which is surprising bc i usually post at 3 am but it just proves how delayed i was getting this out bc i’d meant to post the edit 3 days before then. so obviously i was fed up by the time i published it and i tried to act nonchalant about it in the tags bc it honestly looked incomplete to me and still does, and i know more effort goes into edits with this kind of layout but whatever! it got good reception and it really was a learning experience for me :-)

I played really late last night (.....well into the morning like i went to bed at 9am like a maniac) so I’m gonna break these down into a few chapters

First. Wanda’s adventures in witchcraft!

Some of this happened earlier in the week so I forgot to take screencaps.

My goal was to send Wanda, Loki and Enchantress all over to Glimmerbrook to make them witches. I still will but things....went a little sideways as happens in the sims.

So I sent Wanda and Pietro to the bar in Willow Creek (I tried a few places but apparently this is the one with HOT TEENS..or young adults rather) And a huge crew of people came in and I managed to get Wanda to talk to Steve (I kinda wanna have her get flirty with him but not seduce him ...just to see what happens) and she talked to Jan and Pietro talked to Steve as well. Tony never showed up so I guess he was home with Morgan. But Loki showed up.

And hit it off really well with

Pietro.

Really well. Actually their first kiss was cute bc Wanda was standing right there and she was like “YEAH!!!! GO PIETRO” adsfasdfa I’m dying that I didn’t get a pic of it

So anyway this gets Wanda to know Loki (There’s more there but I’ll put that in another one.

But bc Loki was busy I decided to send Wanda on her own to Glimmerbrook.

The first time I went I couldn’t find the goddamn Sage to send you to the Magic Realm but after sending Wanda home for some sleep I sent her back (looked online) and she was off! On THE LONGEST WALK EVER 

She met up with this cross between Newt Scamander and Caleb Widowgast who gave her powers 

she had to collect some motes? (glowy ball things)  and return to him and thennnnn

YOU’RE A WITCH NOW! 

And she literally waves her hands around bc she doesn’t have a wand. lol

She chatted with a few witches here but bc it took SO LONG to do all the collecting and running around to get to the dang place she was tired. So I’ll come back to Wanda’s path to being the head witch. But she’ll be a good witch.

There’s Mischief magic and that’ll be Loki’s path. Enchantress can do...uh...idk whichever I figure out lol Maybe the alchemy magic.

Side note the apartment i moved the twins into (Bc the RP is that they’re poor immigrants (even though I cheated to give them nice stuff) is the cheapest one and it has mouse holes and supposedly can get cockroaches??? And they have awful neighbors who play loud music at night and fuck a lot. But I won’t move them until Wanda gets her magic story going and Pietro becomes a conservationist in Sulani (and names his house Genosha)

Hi it’s me varigo. tbh I was super stalking this blog when stuff came up about me and mohnot, really interested to see unfiltered opinions and trying to decide whether or not I was being too sensitive about the whole situation. Honestly, I’m not ok with mohnot and what they’re doing AT ALL and I haven’t done anything about it because 1, I had faith that copying me was a phase and they’d find their way eventually and 2, I have Big anxiety. But I’m over it. Here’s the story. It’s kind of long so you could just look at the images and decide for yourself how you feel.

Last summer I got a few concerned notes about these adoptables who’s skull faces were similar to mine. I’m not possessive about skull face creatures, people made them before me and people will make them after me. I am possessive about the specifics of my art. It’s small stuff, but it’s /my/ stuff.

These are the adoptables One thing I really can’t stop myself from saying is that these designs are kind of hella? But I feel like I can’t trust any of mohnot’s work based on my experience and the experience of others. If you’re interested, I could bother another artist they’ve definitely “referenced” and see if they still have the screencaps.

Side by side of their adoptable and one of mine. Obv not traced but also obv referenced. They even included the structural line across the bridge of the nose that I hadn’t erased.

This was the first time anything like this had ever happened to me, but idk. I think I handled it as well as I could.

sorry about the weird order, they deleted the conversation as it went on. I just didn’t want to let the copied skull thing go without having done anything. The people who bought the designs at least had a right to know, I think? They didn’t reply after 3. In hindsight, “I don’t want this to be more complicated than it has to be” sounds way more threatening than I meant for it to. I just meant I didn’t want to have to go around noting people and then have mohnot deny they referenced my stuff. Which is what happened anyway so whatever.

I omitted usernames but if it’s needed, I’ll ask them if they’re ok vouching for me. One buyer wasn’t happy with the similarity and the other one already knew. Mohnot refused them refunds which is her right I guess. Wasn’t really a big deal.

These adotables went up a little while after that. The species is a little too close for comfort but I would have let it go. It’s the fact that mohnot had stolen from me before stacked on top of the stolen (or referenced, idk) designs and palettes. and not 2 b petty but ‘son of mars’ is a name i’ve used for one of my adoptables in the past http://varigo.deviantart.com/art/Tiny-siren-flatsale-closed-547974600 which someone else said to me was probably done to spite me. I don’t know, I just thought it was weird.

This time I was annoyed and I made a journal asking people not to buy these adoptables. I deleted the journal a little while ago because I thought they were done.. referencing my stuff and I didn’t want to needlessly besmirch them, but please believe that I was gentle as All Fuck and asked people not to comment. A couple people did anyway but I was mad and of the mindset “If I can’t stop mohnot from stealing my stuff, I can’t stop people from getting mad about them stealing my stuff”. You can fault me for being too salty. I was really, really salty. The adoptables were deleted.

Didn’t help that mohnot left comments on their profile. I figured they were friends.

I made a quick journal, agian, just asking people not to buy the designs. This journal was maybe a bit crass and short, I didn’t feel like preaching like last time. I just said, “these make me uncomfortable, don’t buy them”. Mohnot sent me a note this time.

I highlighted bits that confirmed that they had lied to me about not referencing my work in the past. As you can see, I wanted to communicate that I didn’t like the similarities but I’d be willing to drop it.

Can I point out that I’m being way nicer than I need to be?? I’m literally complimenting them because fuck it, they make some really cool designs! But like I said earlier, how can anybody know what’s original and what’s been referenced from another artist? That’s speculation, don’t take it to heart I guess.

Anyway, that was the end of that. Journal deleted /literally/ minutes after I posted it.

Then the drama on this blog happened and I read everyone’s opinions and the general consensus that mohnot was not stealing from me, and I got a little salty because I have proof that she was, but I was going to let it go. Her species seemed to be going in it’s own direction so I thought eeeh fuck it.

I guess… I just want people to know I’m unhappy with it. And I just want people to know the history behind this so they can come to their own conclusion. You read the whole thing and you’re not on my side? Honestly, that’d be fine. Just so long as the facts are all out there in the open.
