I COULD WRITE AN ENTIRE TEN-PAGE ESSAY ON THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THEM....I REALLY COULD!

Okay something I just noticed on my billionth rewatch but like….

Jess makes a point to insist “this isn’t about him!…this is about you, Rory!” talking about what’s up with her & where she’s at and it’s the final catalyst for really thinking about it. Amd when she voices it to Logan like, I think I may not be happy with my choice, and he makes it about him. The “don’t blame me, you chose this…don’t you dare blame me.” And the thing is….she doesn’t. Because it’s not about him it’s about her! And Jess can see that but Logan can’t.

I just saw a tiktok video of someone saying that Logan was the reason Rory went back to Yale, that (direct quote) “she would sort some things out” and “he knew she would go back when she felt it was the right time”. Last, but not least, my favorite: “the speech could have come from him and she still would’ve come back, he just knew not to push her too much.”

…….My brother in Christ, did we watch the same show? This isn’t even a point of whose team you’re in, but about what actually happened and people’s skill on text interpretation.

Rory dropping out was a big deal. She studied years to get in a good college, to live a good life, we saw all her effort. The people that truly knew her were astounded by her choice. Luke offered to kidnap her, Paris went to talk to Lorelai, Jess was absolutely confused. She wasn’t giving it up, because she didn’t want it, she was doing it ‘cause she’s a people pleaser and her entire self-worth depends on people’s opinions of her. So when this thin-haired, bald spot, ugly, powerful journalist (who happens to be her bf’s dad) tells her she doesn’t ‘got it’, it crushes her. She spirals. Her decision wasn’t made on a clear head, it was insecurity induced.

To the last quote, I don’t even know what to say. ‘He just knew not to push her too much’, do you mean doing nothing at all?? ‘Cause pushing Rory to be a better person is not something I saw Logan doing. Now the speech part; the only speech I saw him give her was when she was upset about how her life was going and when she complained he made it about him and how his life was “so hard”, when she didn’t accuse him of anything, she was just venting to her boyfriend.

That post I just shared about how Jess is good at accepting when he's wrong and listening to Rory's point of view when they have a conflict is making me think about one of the things that frustrates me about Rory's relationship with Logan. Because Logan doesn't do that in general. Rory always approaches their arguments the way Jess did: like they're both genuinely attempting to understand each other and find some middle ground, but that's not how Logan is operating. Logan is approaching the argument like it's a business negotiation or he's a lawyer. So, he keeps pushing for more, possibly (if I give him the benefit of the doubt) expecting her to push back just as hard, while Rory keeps conceding and compromising. And conceding and compromising would be great if they were BOTH doing it! But they're not. Logan is haggling and Rory just ends up ceding more and more ground until he's rolled right over her, and I really hate that that keeps happening over and over again.

Okay, something for the Gilmore Girls fandom:

Sure, Logan could be technically Rory's best boyfriend, given that he's her college boyfriend and he was her longest relationship- comparatively to Dean and Jess.

But does being the boyfriend who you've dated for the longest time, met at a later date and your most (comparatively) stable relationship the endgame????

Absolutely NOT!!!!

The best relationships are the ones that are deeper, they have this idea that every day is going to be something new- they will love you as you grow each day and champion the best and accept the worst versions of you with grace. They will challenge you and you will have debates and fights maybe on a daily basis but not because they want to pick a fight, they won't pretend to agree or disagree with you and let it simmer till they use it to get back at you.

And so far, the only relationship that has shown snippets of it (and I say snippets) is Jess- be it in their relationship and their friendship, Jess is the only one who is able to be there for Rory in a way that neither Dean nor Logan manage to- and ironically, they are her longest relationships.

Was Jess the best boyfriend? NO! But did Rory love him deeply? Absolutely!!! And he loved her deeply!!!

Does Logan love Rory? Of course, but is love the only thing that is sustainable for a relationship? Compatibility, trust, honest communication, deeper levels of complexity, unbiased support where neither cohort is threatened by the other, are some of the few factors that determine a long lasting relationship, then eventually, a marriage.

one of my favorite things about gilmore girls is seeing the development of rory/paris because they hated each other at first and then slowly became best friends and I love that so much!! now it's been years since I watched and idk if I'll like rogan in any way after years of not watching but I just can't see it lol literati will always be my otp and luke/lorelai and if rory had to end up with anyone besides jess it should've been paris just saying!!

When Rory anti's say "Rory has everything handed to her" She didn't have everything handed to her! She worked her ass off to get into Yale it wasn't just handed to her and her grandparents gave her a LOAN which she had to pay back! Emily gave Lorelai money for Chilton with strings attached they had to attend Friday night dinners which they did do which was Lorelai's equivalent of having to pay her back. Logan got kicked out of THREE private schools, and the ONLY reason Logan is at Yale is because of his daddy's money, he didn't work his ass off to get there like Rory did it literally was handed to him. Logan and Rory BOTH stole a yacht together and Rory faced punishment while Logan faced nothing. No Rory doesn't have everything handed to her, Logan does! This is another reason why when he throws it in her face about her privilege I can't take him seriously because no they don't have the same level of privilege at all!

I understand something now that I didn't when I wrote my Paul Anka fix-it. Rory loves Logan. Not like she loves Jess, but she loves him. hm okay like this is my take on the post-why did you drop out of yale rogan fight that no one asked for!! inspired by a tiktok i saw where the comments were all pro-logan but i digress. i digress. we start off w rory (RIGHTLY) calling logan out for being an absolute jerk to jess. which he was. and we all know it. logan, in typical huntzberger fashion, brushes it off + claims that writers are sensitive + that if jess wanted to, he should’ve “taken a pop at [logan]”. what is rlly funny 2 me abt this is that this is so so similar to what mitchum said to rory?? like mitchum dismissed rory in a really similar fashion to logan just dismissing jess’s accomplishments. and both have that air of oh-if-they-wanted-to-prove-me-wrong-they-could yk? idk i thought that was interesting. and then he ends all that by saying that rory shouldn’t let jess get to her. which. this is one of many many scenes that show truly just how incompatible rory and logan are, just because it’s been proved just time and time again that logan does not understand who rory is and also just doesn’t care. rory obv responds saying that logan is the one getting to her and that he was an ass. logan retorts saying that he’s sorry that he messed things up (but he’s obv not, when has that man ever been sorry in his life). this is kinda when we segue into rory’s underlying crisis with everything that’s happening. she calls logan out for mocking jess when he’s actually accomplished something amazing (logan saying everyone’s doing something like. lol what are you accomplishing exactly?? stole 2 yachts probably set a world record but like...that is rich coming from him), and goes on to say that she’s unhappy with her life bc she feels like she’s not doing anything. and as viewers we know that this is nowhere near the vision rory had for her life, and she’s so unhappy bc she doesn’t belong in the dar, she doesn’t belong in logan’s world, just partying her sadness away. rory is so deeply unhappy with where she is in life right now, and logan isn’t even listening to her he’s just telling her that it’s temporary and she should have a drink!! and this is again. just. such a good example of why they’re so so incompatible bc rory needs someone who is going to push her to be the best person she can be, someone who’s not going to take her shit and redirect her to who she actually is when it gets hard, not someone who’s just going to let her continue her self-destructive behavior just bc he’s doing all that too!!! like rory is spiraling and she’s at rock bottom in her life and logan has absolutely nothing to say until he feels like she’s criticizing him. like bro not everything is abt u sorry!!! she’s talking abt herself and logan comes at her when she wounds his pride a lil like...partying and drinking is not who rory is point blank!! and he just puts it all on her like yes it’s her choice to be partying and drinking but that’s also just. all he does and he knows it!! and rory says that and he just. launches into a monologue of self pity about the great huntzberger dynasty and how he’s being pushed through only one door and it’s like. rory is so right he doesn’t have a hard life he doesn’t know what it’s like to actually work for what you have. and yes i welcome the convo abt rory also having a lot of privilege but her privilege ≠ logan’s privilege at all!!! they’re very different!! but rory is so right in this scene bc we’ve never seen logan actually fight it. and logan has no aims!! no goals!! no passions!! he just wants to continue abusing his family’s wealth with no consequences!! like this is the only time u will see me agree w mitchum huntzberger but like. logan should be pushed thru that door bc he has no actual aims in life...and also like. logan saying that he gave rory a month is so absolutely useless bc he never once checks up on her. he never once comments ab how dropping out is uncharacteristic of her. never asks her if she’s doing alright??? no he just gives her a month like she’s going to fix herself and btw. yeah it did have smth to do w you!!! it had everything to do w you in fact...it was ur father that said all that shit that got in her head. and he never even disagreed w his dad btw. like god sometimes i wonder if logan ever even LIKED rory or just felt attracted to her bc she was the first girl who didn’t give him time of day like...he never once felt concern for her? when she dropped out of the school she worked so hard to get in to? like it’s wild to me truly. like even in this argument his main point is to absolve himself of any blame in rory’s dropping out/rory’s spiral. like there is no concern. he doesn’t care!!! his gf, the one he apparently loves sooo much, is spiraling and struggling and he does not give a fuck. he only shows any sort of emotion when she criticizes his lifestyle and when he feels like he’s to blame for her situation. like that says so much...

Just saw a Twitter post saying that Logan is smarter and more hardworking than Jess because he graduated from Yale and Jess didn’t even graduate from high school…just say you’re classist and shut up

I have a strong feeling that Logan didn’t get into Yale because of his grades, extracurriculars, volunteer work, etc. He got in because of his name, his wealth, his connections. It’s safe to assume that he didn’t work very hard, either. I’m sure he skipped school often, maybe even as often as Jess.

But when Logan skipped school he was probably messing around. Meanwhile, Jess was working a minimum wage job because, unlike Logan, he didn’t have any wealth to fall back on. Jess had to work for everything in life, he didn’t have any wealth, family, connections, etc.

Sorry to all my Logan lovers, but as someone who went to school with a bunch of Logans, I just can’t like him. He’s just white bread with champagne. The main thing about him that makes him who he is, is his money. You remove that, he’s very uninteresting. (Also, the whole yacht thing really pisses me off. If I had a daughter and I find out she got arrested with her boyfriend for trying to steal a yacht and he helped her, I’d make them break up. No way am I letting my daughter be around someone like that.)

I get that a lot of people like him because he’s charming and has a care-free nature. He’s only like that ‘cause he got nothing to worry about; like getting a job, paying bills, paying for college, making sure he graduates, you know stuff that normal people worry about daily. Again, that wouldn’t be possible without his money, which is the base of his entire character.

It kind of amuses me when shippers try to dress up scenes from the Truncheon episode of S6 Gilmore Girls as some super cute, sexy Rory/Logan episode. Honestly, this is common amongst all shippers, but...this is the episode where Rory is basically manipulated into taking Logan back, she undermines him at the paper and is still hostile, so he takes off with the LDB and she seizes the opportunity to drive four hours out of town, spend the evening at Jess's book event and again gush over how smart and accomplished he is, and make out with him before she stops herself. At least subconsciously, sex with Jess was on her mind that night...and even if it didn't go that far, she still not only cheated but put a considerable amount of effort into cheating. Not only that, but she feels completely justified in cheating and her main motivation in stopping is because she doesn't want to hurt Jess.

There are actually a ton of cute Logan/Rory moments over the years shippers could point to as a reason to support the ship. Why single out the episode where she was completely headed in the other direction? I don't get it.

Thinking about that Birkin Bag again, and how Rory seemed actually kind of freaked out by the way everyone was fawning over it when she and Logan were out... And I think a big part of that is because she's used to gifts from a boyfriend being a kind of secret message between lovers that wouldn't mean anything to anyone else. But the Birkin Bag isn't just between Logan and her. It's to send a message to everyone ELSE too. It's not a sweet secret between the two of them, it's a Public Statement. Just like Logan's proposal was a Public Statement (and she didn't like that either).
