Dynaco Repair Post No. 4
Thursday evening, 12-21-23, later:
As I was saying, just a little careful polishing and the chassis already looks a lot better. And the can cap is almost exactly same height as the original:

Once the new can was twist-locked into place with the four tabs, it was time to make the physical connections to all four of the terminals, and replacing the old resistors with some flameproof resistors I'd bought for another ST70 I redid about 15 years ago:

Again, the 30-watt pencil is the way to go.

And THAT, believe it or not, completes ALL the repairs I needed to make to the Stereo 70! Now, all I need is a fresh quad of EL-34 output tubes...another $100 I don't have.
Tomorrow, I start in on finishing the PAS. The 12X4 got here, and I have work to do on the replacement switch. Dude had stripped the big flat caps wired in there, so I will have to cannibalize off my old one.
And one last "Glamour Shot", this time with the 7199 driver tubes in place, with the chassis and base shined up nicely:

(And yes, I put these awesome big-ass rubber feet on and it is so much better looking cageless, as well as easier to handle! And I can't help thinking it has to help keep the amp cooler than the original almost non-existent flat button feet.)

Friday evening, Dec 22, 2023
Well, I looked at that 3-wafer switch, and my little "fix" of wrapping wire around the broken bits, and decided I really had nothing to lose by putting the tubes in, including the NOS 12X4 rectifier tube, and attaching some improvised wiring up to my ancient (but still absolutely functional) Altec Lansing computer speakers as an amplifier.
I then dug out the wires for the turntable and its ground, and a functioning 1/8"-to-RCA cord to use as a test for all the other inputs.
IT WORKS!!! WE HAVE PHONO! WE HAVE ALL THE OTHER PERTINENT INPUTS AS WELL! Talk about relieved and elated! WooHOO! At least now I can get back to transcribing my vinyl to SSD via this beautiful critter, my Dual 1219, with Shure M91ED cartridge. Test record? My ancient 45 of "Green Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf! ROCK OUT ON THAT ORGAN, JERRY CORBETTA!

Plugged the other patchcord into my laptop, and put Miss Nina Simone's "Little Girl Blue" (which I had transcribed before this mess all went down)...and it came through excellent on the "Spare", AM/FM (tuner) input. The only one that sounded a bit off was the 'FM MPX", which was actually only supposed to be one channel of the stereo FM, so that was to be expected, actually.

BUT: with the Spare and Phono both functional, as are the tape in/out jacks, I have everything I need, since I have a 3-source external selector box that will turn Spare into three separate additional inputs, thus, I can run my TV and DVD player into the tubes as well.
SO, I can call the PAS3X officially back in business again, and I have a spare source switch if I need it. That is big. I will spend the rest of the time this evening on putting the case back together and doing some more polishing on the ST-70.
SO the only thing we are missing for a Totally Tubular Xmas is a quad of EL34/6CA7 tubes!
More tomorrow as I finish up the detailing on both units.
And I will also show off my speakers that fill an empty spot in the Dynaco speaker line: a beast of my own creation, the speaker that never was, "The A-15" (lulz) I used 8" butyl-surround woofers and SEAS tweeters, encased in actual wood veneer Pioneer speaker cabinets.
The A-10 woofers were 6", and the A-25 were 10", these Pioneer boxes are perfectly sized to be infinite-baffle boxes, the woofers have exactly the right amount of room, and they sound amazing when the Stereo 70 is blasting through them.
AND ADDENDUM, 8:27pm: EL-34s ARE BEING MAILED TOMORROW! My bro over on the east coast is shipping them tomorrow...we will have TUBEAGE for XMAS!

So, someone found an idol before me because "I value preparation" and wanted to get all the stuff before I actually went out. And, because someone picked food and rations first and picked the right sequence out of probably like 30.... I missed out on an idol. Now I am just wondering if I should even continue idol hunting or just wait till merge because there's usually no point after this since all the advantages are probably found and I'll be idoled out by merge. Fun stuff.

The challenge is due in about 5 hours and I feel damn good about my score. I found what I think is a loophole and was able to get my combined score to 20. If everyone else on my tribe gets an average of 6 links per page, then I think we should be good. I want to win this challenge, but I'll take second. I don't want to have a date with Jay at tribal tomorrow. I had way too many of those last season.
With that said, I do want to go to tribal before we swap. Tribal is where you build trust and I want to make sure I can trust the people I think I can trust. I'm not going to throw a challenge, but if we have to go to tribal in round 3 or 4 I wouldn't complain.

So I am a little scared if we lose immunity again because I think my life might be on the line. I say this because everyone on our tribe is great and we don't have anything for anyone I think. Since Liz was apparently so adamant about getting me out, they might see me as a person they could get out. I just finished the immunity challenge and I think I actually did really good. I hope the other tribes struggle with it so I have a chance to stay in this. Also, we cannot lose again that would be super emberassing. I'm also praying my tribe mates like me but I can't tell. I know Madi and Rachel like me but I have a weird suspicion that the boys would backstab me so easily. Andddd I might've accidentally left Gian on read for like a day oops. Well, I fucked up on the last challenge by not submitting an answer. Haha, I didn’t mean to, but it just slipped my little mind. Hopefully my alliances don’t turn on me this fast. Unfortunately for me, I put myself in this position. If I am able to escape the vote tonight, I mainly want to prove to my 2 allies that I am very loyal and they can trust me to vote where they need me to vote. If not, I had fun for the time that I’ve been here.

So I feel like I’m in the outs of my tribe. When we all were doing a tribe call I joined and met everyone for the first time, however it looked like most of them knew each other for years!! I told them all I was gonna go make some hot chocolate for the challenge and closed my camera and mic, and then Raffy said “is it just me or???” And everyo was like “??”, then he started pointing at his face making some signs that I didnt understand, then someone that I think was Allie said “i think I know what you mean cause I know you”. Bitch the fuck, what does this mean? I just know that I dont like Raffy anymore. However I cant even express my hate to anyone in this tribe cause I have no allies and I need to pretend I’m a sweetheart.
Ellie and I were talking and she was saying I’m the person she has been talking the most and wanted to work with me, what??? You’ve been on the tribe call for more than 5 hours and I’m the person she talked the most? and then she said there are people in this tribe who hate her and dont want to work with her. I pretended to believe her and we made an alliance, and I was saying like “your the person I trust the most of this game”. Its super weird, I feel like the others are all constantly talking cause everytime I start talking to one of them, all of them starts messaging me. I’m annoyed and I cant wait to swap and make all this winners losers.

I was scared for this tribal council but my nerves were eased when literally everyone told me they wanted Ganjo out. So I'm feeling comfortable which I know is dangerous probably. I could get backstabbed of course but I need to be a little less stressed about this game so I'm going to claim that I'm safe. I was the 2nd lowest score to Ganjo though... So I am definitely next on the chopping block if we don't win the next challenge!

Dipper Steps Up: Chapter 1
Plot:
Dipper and Mabel finally start high school. By Day 1, Mabel already has her sights on a boy who happens to play for the baseball team, Chuck Taylor. So she does what anyone would do and prods Dipper into trying out and joining the team. However, they soon find out that there may be more to Chuck than meets the eye. (Abit of Wendip cause.... HECK YEAH)

Chapter 1
(Piedmont, California, 2013)
High school wasn't going to be as much fun as middle school had. That's what Mabel had decided on September 4, the Tuesday that she and Dipper first reported to Piedmont High School.
To begin with, they didn't have the same schedules, as they had in middle school. Oh, sure, they had Miss Othmayer for Home Room at the same time every morning, and then they went on to Mr. Rebozo's English 1 class, and they also had Algebra 1 together, along with American History, and they even ate lunch together at 12:20. After lunch, though, Dipper went on to his classes, Mabel went to hers, and they wouldn't see each other again until the bell rang at 3:30 to end the school day.
Normally that would send them to find their bus home, but on the first day of classes, Mom had said she'd come by to pick them up around 3:45 or so. Mabel and Dipper had agreed to meet at the picnic tables overlooking the baseball diamond, and now she sat there kicking her heels—her art class had ended a little early, and she'd checked out.
Down on the field, kids were gathering and tossing a ball around, and Mabel had her eye on a tall, handsome blond kid. Of course, she didn't know him—heck, she hardly knew anyone at the new school, because it was so much bigger than her middle school that the students she had known the year before were all scattered through the population there, and she didn't have classes with many of them.
Mabel decided that Dipper would see her when he came out—he was probably packing up stuff from his locker—so she walked down the hill and stood outside the chain-link fence, where a few other guys and girls were watching the practice.
"Hi," another girl, dark-haired and smiling, said to her. "You a freshman?"
"Yup," Mabel said. "Mabel Pines. You?"
"Me, too," the girl said. "Rashanda Gilloway. My brother's going out for baseball, so I'm watching."
"Who's the tall guy pitching?" Mabel asked.
Rashanda glanced at the field. "Him? His name's Chuck Taylor. He's a sophomore. This is the JV team try-outs, you know."
"The what with the which now?"
Rashanda laughed. "Junior varsity. Just freshmen and sophomores. Coach Waylund is the coach. Chuck will be the team captain, I'm pretty sure."
An adult—Coach Waylund, Mabel presumed—blew a whistle and yelled, "Settle down, settle down! We'll start in five minutes! Everyone here's wanting to try out for the JV, right?"
The boys sent up a mixed chorus of "Yeah!" "Woohoo!" and "Right." Just then Mabel saw Dipper up at the top of the rise, near the picnic tables. She pulled out her phone and dialed—not Dipper, but Mom.
She answered on the first ring: "Yes, Mabel, I'm about to drive to the school."
"No, no!" Mabel said. "Listen, Mom, the most exciting news in history! Dipper's gonna try out for the baseball team! We'll call when tryouts are over. Love you, bye!" With Mom it was always better to cut phone conversations short before any questions could begin.
Mabel put her phone away and waved. "Hey, Dipper! Come on! Hurry!"
Dipper caught sight of her, hurried down the concrete steps, and approached with a quizzical expression. "Mabel, what are you doing down here? Mom will miss us—"
"Hey Coach!" Mabel yelled, waving both arms. "Here's your new quarterback!"
"Wait, what?" Dipper asked as the guys on the diamond started laughing. Mabel shoved him to the gate in the chain-link fence and pushed him through. "You gotta try out!" she said. "Do it for me!" And she did that big-eye thing that nearly always got him in trouble.
The coach, a tall, muscular guy with a deep tan and a broad chin, said, "Well, get over here! Settle, settle! Listen up! Here's how we're going to do this!"
Dipper gave Mabel a despairing look, but he sat on the grass like the others as Coach Waylund introduced himself and briefly spoke of his hopes and plans—"We were pretty lousy last year, guys! Anyone remember our record? Taylor?"
"Fourteen for twenty-four," the boy said. He was taller than Dipper—taller than anyone but Waylund—blond, and athletic.
"Won fourteen, lost ten," Waylund said. "I am not happy with that record. So this year we're gonna better it! Here's the drill for this afternoon."
He went on to detail the tryouts: First a few minutes of introductions, then timed base-running. Next, infielding practice—each guy would take a turn as a baseman or shortstop, and Waylund would hit five balls to each one's territory, a mixture of flies and grounders. They'd rotate positions to let four other guys try out. Then they'd do the same for the outfield positions. Next would come batting—some guys would play the field, while the rest took turns in the batter's box, while Taylor pitched to them as they practiced hitting, bunting, and game-play. Finally would come pitching and catching practice, with each guy pitching seven balls and catching at least three.
Dipper tried to shrink, hoping to be overlooked, but no such luck. He milled around with the others, muttering that his name was Dipper and that he had no experience as a baseball player. When he introduced himself to Chuck Taylor, Mabel screamed from the sidelines: "That's my brother! He's gonna be a star!"
Taylor chuckled. "Is she your twin?" he asked.
"Yeah," Dipper said.
"Cool!" Taylor told him. "So what's your position?"
"Uh—vertical," Dipper said. When Taylor laughed, he added, "Seriously, I've never played ball. Just catch with Dad. I don't know what I'm doing here, except Mabel pushed me into it."
When the actual tryouts began, Waylund went alphabetically, giving Dipper a brief reprieve from going on the field and making a fool of himself. As he sat with the other guys waiting their turn, though, he noticed something: Some of the prospective players were really terrible. They missed easy fly balls, they stumbled over their own feet—I won't be the worst one, anyhow, he thought.
He went to second base for the infield tryouts. Waylund was an expert at placing the ball just where he wanted it. Though each infielder had a chance at five hits, you couldn't predict which one would be the target for any one of them. The first hit to second was really easy, a gentle pop-up that Dipper caught in his borrowed glove with a plop. He tossed it back to Taylor on the pitcher's mound, and Taylor gave him a grin and a thumbs-up.
All in all, not too shabby: Dipper caught two out of three fly balls—better than some of the others—and scooped up both grounders. Waylund even said encouragingly, "Good hustle, Pines!" after the second one.
The outfield—well, it was more challenging, and he had less success. The high flies made him apprehensive, and the impact, even with the glove, stung his hand. However, though he missed as many as he caught, he did have a certain speed that got him into position more often than some of the other guys could manage.
And, as it turned out, he was one of the fastest base runners, both in running singles, doubles, and triples and in the total time. "Where'd you get that speed, Pines?" Waylund asked him after he'd done the totals.
"I spent most of the summer running from monsters," Dipper said, and the other guys hooted, thinking he'd made a smart-ass joke—but Waylund seemed to like the supposed humor, and he chuckled, too.
Batting was Dipper's worst performance. He successfully bunted a couple of times—but another kid told him, "You're telegraphing that you're gonna bunt. Watch the others for how to hide that."
But he was a lousy judge of ball position, swinging too early, getting foul tip-offs or whiffing the air. He got not one good solid hit the whole time. However, he wasn't alone on that—some kids actually did worse than he did, one of them even failing to make a bunt for two times running.
Afterward, Waylund said, "Good effort, guys. Now, not all of you are gonna make the cut. That's not saying you're no good—it might just be that baseball's not your sport. Some of the ones who do are gonna spend a lot of time on the bench this season—but every player is a member of my team, and I'll play you all at least some of the time. That's it for this afternoon. Those who made the cut, I'll post the list tomorrow in the gym. I'll want you for practice beginning Thursday, same time, same place. Dismissed!"
The group broke up into chattering bunches of three or four, and Dipper started to plod off the diamond. Chuck Taylor slapped his back. "You didn't do so bad, Dipper. I think you'll be on the team."
"I doubt it," Dipper said.
"Hi, brobro!" Mabel said, smiling so that her braces flashed in the afternoon sun. "Won't you introduce me to your handsome friend?"
Dipper sighed. He'd suspected something like that. "Mabel, this is Chuck Taylor, the pitcher. Chuck, this is my twin sister Mabel."
"Hi," Chuck said. "I think Dipper made the team! Glad to meet you."
"Ooh!" Mabel said. "It's hot out here on the athletic field, or is that just you? I'm gonna come to every game to cheer you on!"
"We need spectators," Chuck said, laughing. "Last year a lot of the time we played to nearly empty bleachers."
"I'll round up a posse!" Mabel promised.
"Gotta run," Chuck said. "My dad's picking me up."
"Speaking of which," Dipper said.
"Already called Mom," Mabel told him.
"Mabel, this was a bad idea," Dipper said as they trudged up the steps to the school. "I'm not an athlete. I humiliated myself out there."
"No, you didn't!" Mabel punched his arm. "You were better than some and not as good as others. So what! Everything needs a middle! What's a hamburger without the beef? A tomato sandwich! Yuck!"
"I'm not sure what you're driving at," Dipper said. They went around to the front, and he saw their mom just turning into the loading area.
"Isn't it obvious?" Mabel asked. She ran to the family car and threw open the front door. "Hey, Mom!" she yelled. "Dipper an' me want to stop for hamburgers!"

Hobbiton... Wow, well.. where do I even start?! (Firstly, sorry for the amount of exclamation marks that are about to be used.) Hobbiton was the main attraction that we wanted to see when we came to NZ but for one reason or another, we hadn't managed to get there yet despite living so close for 6 months. So, almost one year after getting here, we are finally going and could not wait! We booked the 'Evening Banquet Tour' which didn't start until 4:30 so we had plenty of time to get to Matamata and chill before having to head over but we still arrived just before 4pm anyway, eager to get started! We had a quick snoop around the gift shop, (but had already decided that we were coming back tomorrow) collected our tickets and boarded our big green bus ready to drive to the village, cameras already snapping. It was quite a large group on the bus but we got off at the start of our tour and were divided into two groups which gave us a much more personal feel to the tour and of course, gave us loads more space to move around and get a good look at the sets. Our tour guide, 'Mike' was an informative and funny addition to an already great tour (we hadn't even entered the village yet!) After a few anecdotes and obligatory safety briefing, we were off into the set! The first glimpse of the whole area had most people in awe and from this point, there was no way that the cameras were going to be put away! We spent the next hour or so walking around the entire area, hearing stories about how the series were filmed, how the set was put together, how it is all maintained and the effort that everyone went through to get the place looking so amazing! It was as if we had walked into a real village that had been there for years and whose inhabitants were just out for a walk, rather than a film set which made it all the more fantastic to see. There are an incredible 44 hobbit holes all together and each one is individually designed and painted to match the inhabitants personality and/or role. For instance, the fish monger's house is down by the lake and the baker has their stall set up in their garden. As it got dark, we made our way down towards the green dragon where we joined with the other half of the big group for a complimentary drink at the bar. Normally, this is where the tour would end; you have a drink at the bar then one last walk through a section of the village before getting back on the bus and heding on your way. Not for us, we were only just getting started! As our drinks were nearing their end, we were all gathered together near the bar for a welcome to the pub and as an introduction for our next section; the banquet! A charming boy who was part of the group and had dressed up for the occasion had the privilege of drawing back the curtains to let us through to our dining room for the evening. Three massive tables were set out and a log fire burned cosily on one side of the room as we all filed in and took our seats. The tables were brimming with food! Fresh vegetables surrounded dishes of stew, roast chicken, cumberland sausage, stuffed vegetables, roasted vegetables, po-ta-toes, bread rolls... so much food! We didn't have to wait long before we could tuck into this amazing feast. everything was delicious and we did a pretty awesome job of trying a bit of everything. One guy at the other end of the table had a small plate of food then stopped eating! We couldn't believe this - we were all about the food! Once we had been suitably stuffed by the amazing meal, the staff cleared the table and brought out dessert! woohoo! Trifle, pastry things, parfait and muffins, ooh my days, yum! Top that off with some more Hobbiton brewed drinks and we were onto a fabulous night but that was not the end of it! We bundled back up, got handed our lanterns and stepped out into night-time Hobbiton, making our way back to the party field with our lanterns showing us the way. The village in the dark was absolutely magical. Each of the houses had their lights on which sparkled on the perfectly still lake. We walked around the set a little and Mike invited us on a 'virtual' tour to reflect on our evening. We closed our eyes and he talked us through every aspect from getting on the bus, walking through the village, learning about the different houses and stories surrounding the building of the location, down through the paths which led to the green dragon and into the bar for a drink and our exceptional meal. Lastly he invited us to picture ourselves in front of our favourite hobbit hole and to picture ourselves standing at the gate and just having our own little moment during the tour. We finished our 'virtual tour' by looking straight up into the clear night sky and to the stars. Ooh my! We continued along our path to the party field where we stood in a big circle and had a little hobbit dance to the Green Dragon song before heading back to our big green bus and sadly being driven away. There was absolutely no part of me that wanted to leave that wonderful set (well, maybe the part of me that doesn't like the cold) but I was completely blown away by this place and it far exceeded my expectations. The staff were incredible, the set was amazingly beautiful and the stories behind the whole thing were so impressive! Love, love, loved it!

Hey you all, I’m so sorry for being absent these past few weeks. I haven’t been in my writing mood for a couple of months, but I been completely absent the past few weeks… So I’m gonna give you a recap of how these past 3 weeks have been for me…
So I started the week, 3 weeks ago, with going back to my speech therapist again. Yes, I stutter and yes, it will never go away completely… No big deal for me, but the techniques I learn there, help me in my daily life. I also went to the doctor’s for the pain in my right calf muscle.. He didn’t see anything, gave me painkillers and said it would go away… I got a bit irritated again, because it was blue, swollen and that’s the answer I almost always get.
School that week wasn’t very excited, I didn’t have a model so I had to train on my exercise head again. Did break my own record in doing a perm. We have to roll a complete perm in an hour max, and I did it in 50 minutes, my record was 52 =]
Thursday I had my last Taekwondo training before my exam on Friday. It was good to go over everything I had to do like kicks, techniques and walking my daeguk. Afterwards we went for a drink in town. It was really fun to socialize with the group and build my friendship with them. They told me the sweetest thing!! They said I was a really good and fun addition for the team =] To hear that makes me feel really good. I’ve lived in this area for three years now and still haven’t got any friends. So it really did do me good =] I’m happy to have found that group of people and really like them =]
So Friday was the big day for me. My first Taekwondo exam. It was really tough on my stamina hahahahah… I did make a few dumb mistakes. Like with the sparring part, I don’t have any protection yet, so I kicked against an elbow, it hurts like shit, and guess what… a minute later I kicked with my other foot against the other elbow.. So it gave me two very blue feet, a few bruises on my arms and shins and the worst part to tell you guys… Before sparring I had to show kicking techniques on pillows my friend [she’s a black belt] held up. But she held up two for a jumping kick and because of my calf muscle I calculated my jumped kick to land on my left leg. But in the heat of the battle I had to do a double jumped kick aaaaaannddd landed on my right leg… So I have a tear in my MCL- or more commonly known as my inner knee ligament [just found that out last Tuesday by the way] – I felt it snap and had to spar after that… whoops… But all in all it was worth it and I passed!! That weekend we visited mu aunt and her wife. I was sore, bruised and tired, but most of all sad… It was the first time being there and Simba not greeting us… She was their dog and child.. She was 14, but 4 in spirit… I got the news while doing groceries the weekend before. It broke me, I grew up with Simba. Think about it she was 14, I’m 24 years… So that was a weird and emotional weekend….
After this busy week it got boring and painful… I couldn’t go to Taekwondo for a while [that while ain’t over yet, sadly] and that made me miss my friends and my two occasions of getting out of the house in the week… It also screwed my schedule.. I just got used to working out twice a week, and that made me feel good.. Now that’s gone for a while and that makes me sad and restless.. I feel stuck in my house, especially with my knee… So no Taekwondo, a lot of job hunting and school this week was with my exercise head again. This wasn’t for the fact I couldn’t find a model, but because we got a colouring demo and a test run with water mixed with a hair mask on our exercise heads…. It was a lot of information, but exciting to start colouring other’s hair =]…
Then the real fun began.. Hello to having a fucking fever for four days =/ it was good for my bingewatching as you can see from Thursday through Sunday hahahahaaa… So that wraps up the first two weeks…
So last week was kind of exciting for the family. On Monday my father-in-law got a new pacemaker. That’s always a tricky thing in my opinion… But it went very well and he’s doing better after having the surgery.. So the rest of the week was me limping, me job hunting, me doing a mini makeover with a haircut on my model [and she’s going for another haircut and a perm in april woohoo], me giving my father-in-law a haircut after the hairdresser didn’t do a great job and asked me to do it. He was happy with it and so was I. I haven’t had training in cutting a man’s hair [will cover it in the second year] and he was my first male haircut =] I’m glad I can learn from the saying ‘Monkey see, monkey do’ hahahaha..
Today was a slow day. Had a tough night sleeping.. Because of the stinging pain in my leg and my bf woke me up twice. He couldn’t sleep so the first was because of the light of the TV [my mask had slipped from my eyes] and the second time because he felt like eating Oreo’s and ripping the package. And I can guarantee you, plastic ain’t silent xD So I had a tough time falling asleep again after the Oreo incident and that kept me up for 45 minutes again… Finally fell asleep and got some more hours luckily.. But I’m still tired as shit and so today wasn’t a very quick day… Watched some Grimm episodes, prepped some review posts to finish them – hopefully tomorrow – and made fresh tomato soup… Guess what.. I forgot my soup veggies =/ the most essential ingredient… So I had soup with meat and pasta today and will buy the veggies and add them tomorrow hahahaha… I am glad I finally caught up with my blog again and have the motivation to write my reviews again… Not in the same speed as before, but I’m getting there..

I hope I can do them all, but I’m not going to promise anything. My game hasn’t been good the last few months and it’s taking me a while to get it back. I hope you will forgive me for posting so little, but as I’ve explained in the Life section of this post, life ain’t easy these days…

I did do a lot of reading these past few weeks. =] Good books will keep you reading on hahaha… So I finished Carve the Mark on January 29 and The Tales of Beedle the Bard on February 4. Since then I’ve read The Gender Secret and The Gender Lie by Bella Forrest, Haven by Katherine Bogle from a review copy, Caraval by Stephanie Garber and First Year, Non-Heir, and Apprentice by Rachel E. Carter. I’m really excited by and in love with The Black Mage series by Rachel E. Carter =] It’s sooooo good!!!!
My next reads will be Candidate, and Last Stand by Rachel E. Carter, Passenger, and Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken and if I make it this month The Gender War by Bella Forrest… The Gender Secret series is also really, really good!!!

- drive to trenton train station but miss train
- catch next one and meet up with broker
- spend entire day looking at apartments back to back, 7 listings
- sit down and calculate/narrow down search
- revisit the tentative winner apartment
- spend time getting paperwork ready at bank / post office / the office
- drop off application at the office
- eat at purple rice for food (basically all i ate the entire day)
- take train home and drive back
- talk to parents and figure out remaining paperwork
- go to sleep by like 12am cause long day
today i:
- woke up at 7:30am to my alarm. i drank some water, brushed my teeth, got ready and left the house with dad. he let me use his car to drive to the train station. i dropped him off at his work, then drove over to the trenton train station which took about 30 minutes. i was trying to catch a 9:21am train and i got to the train station around 9am
since it was getting close, just as i pulled into the station, i was scared i was gonna miss it. i saw the parking garage ahead but the closer one in front of me was an open parking lot for $14. but you have to pay first before leaving. so i parked the car, ran to the parking machine. but then it wouldn’t take any of my cards... i was like ???? i wasted like 5 minutes, then after my cards wouldn’t work, i ran back to the car, drove it over to the parking garage, frantically trying to find a parking spot. then i found one on the fourth floor, parked it, then sprinted back to the station. i was purchasing a ticket, then wanted to double check what time it was on my phone to make sure i would at least be able to catch it. but then... my phone was missing??? i was freaking out. exhausted, i walked back towards the car. i gave up on catching the 9:21 because it was 9:19 already. i was panicking, worried about where i could’ve lost my phone. i jogged back to the car in the parking garage. then... my phone was in the driver seat, it must’ve fallen out of my pocket while i was in a rush. i grabbed my phone, then started to head back to the station
i texted my broker that i was gonna be 30 minutes late, catching the 9:51am. i decided to just grab a bagel from dunkin donuts. i called her after she didn’t respond for about 5 minutes cause i wanted to make sure she got it and then apologized. she said it was okay, we’d just have to rearrange the first appointment to a potentially different slot
- hopped on the train, got to NYC penn station by 11:16am. on the train i just browsed facebook for a bit and then read crossing the chasm (like 30 pages to page 60 or something)
- once i got off, i jogged over to 43rd street because that’s where we were first meeting up. i was supposed to meet marsha at 11:30am so i needed to run to get there on time. i was out of breath when i met her in front of the condo building LOL. we quickly introduced ourselves, then walked in. the broker for the apt just came in just as we did so we introduced ourselves, then he took us up
the first apt was recently renovated so it felt very nice. also had a bunch of amenities like pool, gym on roof. but it was 2350... kind of out of budget. but the condo seemed very well maintained
- we walked over to the second one on 47th street, met with another broker. also a condo building. he showed us the apt, it looked a bit more run down compared to the first one, but we got to see how the tenant used the space since he was still living there. we also got locked out on the roof when the broker showed us. cause the roof door locks when it closes LOL. fortunately the tenant was out for food so he was able to rescue us. that apt was also okay ish, but 2250...
while marsha and i walked, we got to know each other a bit better. she told me about her work, what cities she’s lived in (chicago, atlanta, nyc). she seemed like a very kind and genuine person :) i talked a bit about my upcoming asia travels and it was great getting to know her
- the third one was near columbus circle, and later turned out to be the one i chose! the space was HUUUUGE. i was like DAAAAAAMN. super happy about that place, it became the top contender at that point in the day. and for a relatively reasonable rental price. the only con is no laundry in unit
- fourth one near 56th. this one was pretty small on the first floor but around 1950, so not bad
- fifth one near 45th which was even smaller. another broker showed us the tenant’s place cause the tenant was moving out. this was a condo building i believe. but the reason it was priced more (like 2200) is cause it was near the subway station
- sixth one was a 1br1ba but for 2400. it was pretty nice, but the kitchen was small, and the bedroom was actually pretty small too. i’d doubt you could fit a queen bed in there
- seventh one was a newly listed place, for 2175. we showed up 10 minutes early so we actually got the broker showing the place with another one of his clients. he said we could go together and we were like... sure why not. the girl he was showing it too seemed a bit annoyed :s i apologize to her. the place was pretty nice (looked renovated), space was decent, but the guy said he already had an application he was expecting today. marsha and i were in there for about 5 minutes, then bounced so the other girl could have a look at the apt all to herself
- marsha and i walked over to starbucks, but then columbus circle to sit down and weigh the pros and cons of each. i liked the first condo (but expensive), third one (huge space but no laundry), and seventh one (decent but likelihood of getting it probably low). we also calculated the numbers to see how it played out. honestly while i was looking at other places throughout the day, i realized more and more how much i valued an open space over other things like laundry in building :p after looking at all the listings from the day, i was pretty set on getting the third one (hoping i can get it). after calculating the numbers, i was convinced to get the third one
we calculated all of this around 2:15pm, finished all our appointments by 2pm
the rest of the afternoon flew by because we were doing so many things
- so once she helped me decide, we made moves to get all the necessary paperwork to submit my application ASAP. i went to the bank to get full bank statements and a money order for the application fee. but they said they don’t do money orders, so i’d need to go to the USPS office. while getting stuff at the bank, marsha went back to her place to get her laptop so she could help get my paperwork. i called my parents to give them an update about what i was going to do/submit app today/other details. at this point of day, marsha was told from the management company that i’d need a co-signer (potentially two) so i communicated that with mom and dad
- marsha and i met up, then went to the USPS office to get a money order for the application
- we walked down to her broker office to make copies of my tax returns cause they needed copies (i hadn’t copied it, just brought my own copies :S). i got to see the front of the office which was pretty cool. also signed some tenant disclosure papers and then we were all set
walked over to the management company office (in a basement) and dropped off all of the necessary paperwork and figured out the logistics for the application for tonight/tomorrow. the guy there (jerry) said that i may not even need a co-signer because i would be qualified based on tentative job. marsha planned some logistics and we went to get two more money orders. in case the management company actually did need two co-signers, they’d need two new applications. and since marsha is in town, she could just drop off the money order for me so i don’t have to come in. if not, then marsha would just give me the money orders the next time i see her 
whew what a long evening. by the time we finished, it was like 5:30pm. i was a bit zoned out cause things went by so fast in the afternoon. marsha helped keep me on track (thank god)
- i went to penn station to look at the train schedules and called dad to see what everyone’s plans were for the evening. everyone was kind of busy (mom working late, sheena going to hang out with friends), so i just ended up grabbing some food in NYC cause why not
i went down the block to purple rice for korean food. it was my first meal of the day and also my only meal LOL. charged my phone for a bit (it was at 15% after all day today, i got it back up to 20%)
- went to penn station, took a 6:11pm train back to trenton. i napped for most of the ride cause i was exhausted. also my right foot was kind of blistering from walking all day / running in the morning
drove the car back home, getting back around 8:30pm. i was a bit proud of myself cause my battery level was low (16%) so i just remembered the main highways i’d need to take and then did it without using google maps. woohoo i’m not totally incompetent without technology... looool
- got back home, talked with dad about how things are going. then spent the rest of the evening chilling / waiting for dad to get him and mom’s papers in case we do actually need co-signers for tomorrow. we’ll find out tomorrow morning
took a shower, got into bed exhausted
- passed out by like 12:30am

Last Week’s Workouts
It’s been 6 weeks since I last ran.  To say I’m itching to run again is an understatement. I’m missing my sunrise runs!
I’ve been feeling rather lost in my workouts, like they don’t have a purpose.  Obviously, the Sugarloaf Marathon is not happening. The next race that I have on my schedule is Mount Washington Road Race.  I’ve got 8 weeks to get in shape for it.  I’ve been given the ok to walk a little but no incline yet. At least I’m tackling tons of glute strength exercises to build up the buns for that “one hill”.
I’m hoping that I get the green light to try run/walk intervals tomorrow when I see my PT.  I will have to take it very, very s-l-o-w-l-y.  From what I’ve heard from others who have had a stress fracture/pre-stress fracture, the recurrence rate is high. I’m guessing I won’t be in phenomenal shape for Mount Washington.  Everything is at a wait and see point from now on.

I’ll be sharing some of my glute strengthening exercises on Wednesday for the latest edition of Run It. Some are exercises that I’ve been doing for years but others have a slight twist to help fire the glutes up rather than my quads.  I’m such a quad dominant runner that it takes a lot of work for my other muscles to wake up.

The warm weather from last week left us (after Marathon Monday of course) and left us with overcast and 40 degree weather. I opted to stay inside rather than freeze my face off on the bike outside.

I started adding walking into my routine to feel out my foot.  There’s been no pain or soreness during or afterwards.

It wasn’t a super warm day but I couldn’t fathom another day in the basement.  I didn’t want to go to the pool to run either so I bundled up and hit the road on my bike.  Fresh air and a change of scenery hit the spot.

Candlelight Restorative Yoga and Massage at Bending Bodhi
I’ve been to three previous Candlelight Restorative Yoga classes before but this one added a new element – massage.  O. M. G. You guys, this class was ahhhhhmazing. Two plus hours of basically snuggling with a bolster or a blanket and having your back, neck, head, arms, calves and feet massaged while in every pose.  Total relaxation. It was the best thing ever.

I’ve been super faithful about doing the Egoscue exercises every day.  I can’t say I’ve noticed less pain but then again I didn’t really have intense pain before.  It was more of a tightness feeling here and there. I’m sticking with it though.

We spent the day down in Boston walking throughout the city.  I’m happy to report my feet felt great.  Woohoo!

Weekend Favorites + Last Week’s Workouts
Hello and a very happy Sunday evening to you! How was your weekend? Ours was fairly low-key and filled with a whole lot of snow. Oy. Spring can’t come soon enough! #boowinter
Friday: We got a pretty big snow storm on Thursday night, so Mal had a snow day from school on Friday. Our teacher friends also had a snow day, so they came over with their little guy to hang out that afternoon. We enjoyed some apps and drinks, talked politics/education, laughed a lot, and then ate Beef Stew for dinner before saying goodbye.
Saturday: The next morning, Mal had Saturday School, so Qman and I went to CrossFit and then Coffee Shack for a post-workout treat. We spent the rest of Saturday hanging out and getting our lives together (i.e. grocery shopping, food prepping, doing laundry). After we put Quinn to bed, Mal and I FINALLY started This Is Us after so many friends recommended it to us. We’re only two episodes in, and we’re loving it so far!
Sunday: Another snow storm was expected to hit, so we headed out bright and early for breakfast at a local diner. We were all starting to feel a bit stir crazy, so I’m glad we got out of the house at least for a little while. It snowed all afternoon and it’s suppose to continue well into the night. Maybe Mal will have another snow day tomorrow? Anyway, I thought sharing some of my favorite things from the weekend might be a fun way to recap, so here we go!
Building a cardboard airplane with Qman, which was the perfect indoor/snow storm activity! We might need to buy more of these things!
Trying a new recipe for Beef Stew. (Recipe on @myweeklyeats Instagram.) It was a super easy recipe and so delicious!
Testing out my brand new Nano 7s! Mini review: They’re a totally different shoe compared to the 6s. The sole and heal are a lot more stiff and sturdy, and they even have a little weight to them (almost like a lifter), but they’re still light enough to do Box Jumps, Double-Unders, etc. I haven’t run in them yet, but I have a feeling they’re going to be quite different from the 6s.
Wearing my new beanie (<— on sale) outside in the snow. It’s so warm, cozy, and cute!
Enjoy one of my favorite healthy pizza crusts for dinner on Saturday night. It’s an oldie, but goodie (dairy- and gluten-free) recipe!
Sipping Coconut Macademia Nut Iced Coffee! Coffee Shack was out of my usual Pecan Sticky Bun, so I tried a new flavor and lovvvvvved it!
Discovering that Qman likes LARABARS. Woohoo! He’s such a picky eater, it’s always a good day when we find a healthy food that he’ll eat!
Trying a Short and Stout that a friend brought to our house. It was chocolate stout blended with brewed masala chai, pineapple juice, coconut water, and agave nectar. It’s sounds like a crazy combo, but I swear it was incredible!!
Discovering the amazingness of TERRA Sweet Potato Chips. I’ve seen them a million times at the grocery store, but never tried them until this weekend. Holy cow, they’re the best ever!!
Playing outside in the snow with Mal and Qman. I’m sooooo not a fan of winter, but I kind of like it when my boys are enjoying it so much. I’m also glad we got to use Quinn’s Cubbies shirt again! Sunday morning breakfast at The Eating Establishment. It was our first time there, and we all loved it. Ok, well, Quinn didn’t eat anything, but he was really well-behaved!
Having Beauty Bursts on-hand when I feel like stress-eating ALLTHESUGAR. Haha! But, seriously, they’re great when I want a little something sweet to keep my mouth busy. I keep them on the desk in my office, and I guess it’s better than eating 8,000 bowls of cereal when I’m stressed out, right?
Getting our grocery shopping done early before the snow hit!

Creating TWO different Overnight Carrot Cake Protein Oatmeal recipes! Both will be on CNC later this week!
Our Melissa & Doug Water Book saving the day once again! It kept Quinn quite entertained during our breakfast out.

I was so busy with meal plans recently, I’ve barely worked out, and I didn’t think it was really worth sharing, like, two workouts for the week. But now I feel like I’m getting into a groove with my workload for CNC and Designed to Fit, and we’re planning to hire at least a couple more people to help out. A good problem to have for sure! Chelsea’s goalie played in London, saw a Knicks game, and went to the Super Bowl in one weekend
Thibaut Courtois, apart from having a very cool name, had a VERY good sports weekend. Courtois, the starting goalie for Chelsea, had a very exciting Saturday. The goalie helped his team defeat their rival London team, Arsenal.

The game kicked off at 12:30 p.m. London time. Chelsea won 3-1, and to celebrate? Courtois took a flight to New York just in time for the Knicks game!

The Knicks game tipped off around 8:30pm at Madison Square Garden. (We’ll let it slide that he spelled “Cavaliers” wrong.) Woohoo! A footy game and some basketball in the same day. Not bad! But his sports weekend was only just beginning, as he would be in Houston for the Super Bowl just 22 hours later!

Courtois witnessed/participated in three incredible sporting events in less than 36 (American) hours. Not only that, but he was able to see the most exciting Super Bowl comeback of all time.

Unfortunately for Courtois, his followers are not as amused and think he should get his ass back to London for practice tomorrow morning. Between beating Arsenal, seeing LeBron (sorry Knicks) and watching Tom Brady win another ring, Thibaut Courtois’ travel agent was the real MVP this weekend.
