This is actually so sweet, can you imagine that for once you're ready on time, standing by the door reminding her every few minutes that you're gonna be late whilst she rushes around her apartment like a headless chicken. You’re getting more and more agitated, desperate to get to this secret location she’s refusing to disclose to celebrate your first anniversary. She's looking behind couch cushions and in cupboards muttering to herself 'stupid fuckin' keys', and eventually you have no choice but to help her look for them. You take the logical approach, checking her coat pockets, confused as to how she's lost the same set of keys that are quite literally attached to her hip at any given time. 

Finally, you spot them underneath an open book on her coffee table, jingling them as you call her attention from the kitchen. She walks up to you, takes them from you and inspects them for barely a second before humming and shaking her head. 

'No, they're yours, mine have the keyrings remember?' 

Halfway to chuckling, you look at her like she's gone mad for a moment. You eye the keys, noting the absence of her usual coin keyring the two of you picked up at the zoo some months ago. 

'Abs, these are not my keys.' 

She hums in response, placing them gently into your hand again.

‘Well, I mean… they could be, all you need is a nerdy ass keyring.’ Her lips tip into an almost nervous smile and she focuses her attention on the keys for a little while longer, finally looking up at you after a few moments. 

You can’t help but smile, because this is so very her. She’s so naturally confident in every aspect of her life, but there’s always that little niggling feeling of self-doubt in the back of her mind when it comes to things like this; when it comes to making you happy. She would very easily place all of your needs above her own and right now, standing so unsure of herself and the gesture, there’s no way you could possibly reject her. 

You realise the silence has stretched on a little too long when she covers your closed hand with her own, launching into a ramble about how you don’t have to take them and she really wouldn’t be upset if you didn’t want them right now, and all you can do is smile and shake your head. 

You place a hand on her cheek, thumb stroking over her freckled skin and the slight indent of a scar. 

‘Abby…’ She cuts you off once again,

'Look I'm not asking you to move in right this second, I just want you to be able to come over whenever you wan-' 

‘Hey, I want them. I love being here and I love being with you, I want the keys, okay?’

So, I’m sorry but I don’t really know many, I have to admit :/

I’m quite particular about how I imagine those two, and I think dark fics are a scarcity within the already narrow niche (?) of acotar x reader fanfiction, which is why for the most part I wanted to write them for myself?

That being said, Haunt Me Like The Wind That Blows by @throneofsapphics is a version of dark! Rhys I personally like, and I really enjoyed reading! It does reference poly!feysand, but for the most part revolves around reader trying to run from them, hiding out in a small village for about a year before Rhys comes to retrieve her 🧡💛

Company of Phantoms and its sequel Our Marriage Bed by @azrielhours are both also marvellously written stories, the premise being a lovely mix of infatuation and what’s arguably some psychosis on Az’s part as he begins to hallucinate seeing and hearing reader where she isn’t—these two are both comfort fics (I mean, basically all of her works are, but for the purpose of this ask these two are the ones I’m mentioning specifically 🧡💛)

There’s also running from dark!azriel by @gothicbabydollz which is exactly as it sounds—probably also another one I reread fairly frequently, so feel free to have a nose at these, and I hope you enjoy :)
