Edit because I fact-checked myself after the fact, my apologies:
TAG (The Animation Union) already exists and covers animation artists & writers. The above petition is about ADDING specific production roles to the union, and asking Disney to voluntarily recognize that unionization.
original text of the post with clarifying edits below
don't forget during the WGA strike that animation is not covered under the WGA deals [edit: but it is covered under TAG!] and as a result animation has gotten the shortest possible end of the stick in under-staffing, under-paying, and generally turning the field into gig employment.
please sign the petition here for Disney to recognize animation production workers as a union [edit: in the already existing TAG union!] and reblog this post!

WE DID IT!! WE'RE OFFICIALLY UNION!!
From the Animation Guild:
"TAG and #Powerhouse have reached a historic voluntary agreement! This marks a significant moment for #animation as Texas becomes the 1st Right-to-Work state & 2nd state outside of CA to have union-represented animation workers. Let's celebrate! Congrats to our newest colleagues!"
I'm so, so incredibly proud of us, I can't even begin to express. We were a non-union studio for over 20 years, and at this time last year we were still non-union. We changed this. If you're at a non-union studio YOU CAN TOO!! Just start talking to each other and reach out to TAG! Their guidance is so, so good and they'll be with you every step of the way. Our organizer Ben Speight has been absolutely incredible to work with for the past year— he’s been so kind and compassionate and he has my sword forever.
I love my coworkers so much and I'm so excited for the future of our studio and to move forward with negotiations 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛 (Also I drew their splash image!!)

I think It’s Time For The Animation Guild to start early. Also David Zaslav Sucks and it’s funny how that last tweet came from the Same CEO who told his Workers to listen to a song from “Trolls” and telling them that they were losing their job when Quibi became a failure of a streaming service.

Dozens of production workers at Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network have gone public with their attempt to unionize with The Animation Guild. Sixty-six staffers at Warner Bros. Animation and 22 at Cartoon Network filed a petition for a union election with the National Labor Relations Board on Wednesday and simultaneously requested voluntary recognition from management at the Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiaries. Collectively, the group includes workers in roles like production manager, digital production assistant, IT technician, production coordinator, production assistant, design production coordinator, assistant production manager and senior assistant production manager.

Hollywood has this disdain for animation, it's always considered kid's stuff and second banana to live action series. Even their awards for animation is not held in high regard for them. Being a writer on an animated series compared to it's live action counterpart has a huge difference in pay. Live action movie and series are considered "the real product" compared to animation. Many animation companies aren't even unionized, workers for Solar Opposites, Rick and Morty and the animation studio Titmouse only recently joined the Animation Guild this year. It blows my mind that Adult Swim's biggest show wasn't part of a union. The industry is built on exploitation and overworking people with unreasonable deadlines with not enough pay. No wonder so many people get burnt out and quit.

just in case anyone missed this in the news or maybe not in the loop, Disney is currently refusing to meet with or acknowledge the newly formed animation production workers union that just voted to join IASTE and become an official part of TAG, the animators and animation artists guild
production workers across all studios are currently voting to be recognized for their hard work and invaluable skill at keeping these productions running, but studios are refusing to meet with them to let them negotiate deals or even exist
as someone who works in animation as a designer i know i wouldn't be able to do my job at all without any of my production workers. they are the incredibly hard working people who oversee pretty much everything in animation. they make sure everything is running on time, that schedules are being followed, they have to know pretty much every single word of the scripts and beats from the storyboards to make sure nothing is missed, and most importantly, they make sure artists are being taken care of and not overworked. they really are the unsung heroes of the animation world
production workers are also by far the most exploited workers in animation currently. they make about a fraction of what artists make for just as much work put in, and currently have no agreement for health coverage or other benefits that artists protected by the union are guaranteed
BUT! there is some good news. right now there's a petition on IATSE's website that has over 80,000 signatures currently addressed to disney leadership to do the right thing and meet with this new union and recognized their vote to form. it still needs roughly 21,000 signatures and only takes a minute to sign! anyone with a zip or postal code can sign, meaning both US and Canadian residents can sign and help this union get the deal it deserves!!
