He has appeared on several TV networks: Comedy Central (Arturo Castro's Alternatino), Bravo (Odd Mom Out), NBC (Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge) and in several movies alongside stars like Anna Kendrick and Ansel Elgort. He spent 12 years in New York City and appeared in six Broadway shows: West Side Story, La Cage Aux Folles, Matilda, Aladdin, Head Over Heels, and most recently, Moulin Rouge the Musical.

Essa gravura foi dado ao pintor Juan Soriano e contém no verso uma historinha sobre esse personagem fofo mas também um pouco macabro. Parece até a Vandinha. Vooreerst: het heeft lang geduurd, maar vanaf nu is het dus realiteit, live kijken naar de grote tornooien kost u geld !! En ook uitgesteld kijken naar de livestream op YouTube is er niet langer meer bij :-(.... Met andere woorden, voor de stem van Neil Adams betaal je vanaf nu.... Afwachten nu maar of dit op termijn enige invloed gaat hebben op de populariteit van onze geliefkoosde sport... Maar goed, koken kost geld, en als grote fan, hebben we dan ook gewoon betaald voor een abonnement. Een IJF “Live Premium sunscription” kost jaarlijks 100 Eur (+21% VAT, ah ja...); nu ja, das tegenwoordig niks meer natuurlijk als je naar je energie-afrekening kijkt (ja, ik weet het, allicht een misplaatste grap, sorry). Na betaling, kan je gewoon klassiek alles volgen via https://live.ijf.org. Blijkbaar kan je achteraf (zonder abonnement) wel de kampen blijven raadplegen via de IJF-website. Het tegendeel zou uiteraard een beetje van de pot gerukt zijn natuurlijk. En fans kunnen ook nog altijd terecht voor commentaar op “Judo Highlights” >> video JH (day-1 preliminaries)

Jorre is een heel goeie judoka, maar de /-60kg & /-66kg zijn zo’n gewichtscategorieën waar op wereldniveau de toppers dicht bij mekaar aanleunen, en een flits kan beslissen over winst of verlies. Alleen Japan lijkt daar dan toch telkens weer zijn suprematie te bevestigen. En kijk, dat was vandaag alweer niet anders.

Jorre Verstraeten (°97; /-60kg; 3° WRL; IGW): out (1 own) Na zijn brons op het EK en overwinning op de GSL Budapest, stond Jorre zo maar eventjes 3° WRL ! En dat verklaart dan ook waarom hij hier 2nd seeded stond op dit WK, en wat dat betreft dus al niet veel moet onder doen voor Matthias...

Opent, na een bye, in 1/16-fin tegen junior Marcus Auer (°02; Aut; 154° WRL) >> video : de klassieke ne-waza score van Jorre diep in GS na 6′15″min (osae komi). In 1/8-finale tegen Angelo Pantano (°96; Ita; 33° WRL); die kent hij maar al te goed natuurlijk, en vandaag trok Jorre helaas aan het kortste eind >> video Nu, was dit wel een score van de Italiaan ? Angelo had een aantal aanvallen met seoi-nage tijdens de wedstrijd, en hier in GS deed hij opnieuw zo’n poging; in mijn ogen ging deze hier echter over in een offerworp en telt zo’n score dan eigenlijk nog wel als je eerst zelf volledig op je rug belandt ?

Enfin, blijkbaar geen protest, bij niemand, dus zal het wel correct geweest zijn...

De wereldtitel ging voor de 4de maal (!) naar huidig Olympisch kampioen Naohisa Takato (°93; Jpn; 25° WRL). Wereldkampioen in Rio 2013, in Budapest 2017, in Baku 2018, en nu dus hier in Tashkent 2022. (ook nog 3°OG Rio’16 en 3°WK’14; 5°WK’19). Best wel grappig dat zo iemand dan slechts 25° staat op de WRL... Oudgediende, en 3°OG Tokyo, Yeldos Smetov (°92; Kaz; 38° WRL) pakte brons, net als 1st seeded Yung Wei Yang (°97; Tpe; 1° WRL; 2°OG Tokyo), van wie Jorre overigens nog won met ijzersterke prestaties op de GSL Antalya in April (1°) ... Vice-wereldkampioen werd hier de eerder onbekende Mongool Ariunbold Enkhtaivan (°96; Mgl; 13° WRL). Won nl. slechts 2 WTour medailles tot dusver (3° zwakke GSL Paris’21 & 3° GP Zagreb’19); wel meerdere malen top-8. >> video JH : wereldkampioen Takato

Dat Ellen zo-ie-zo zou worden weggeblazen stond voor mij dus al lang vast, en al zeker als je vroegtijdig in je poule de Europees kampioene ontmoet. Ondanks overwicht zal Shirine Boukli (°99; Fra; 1° WRL) overigens verrassend zelf sneuvelen in haar volgende kamp, want men weigerde een 3de shido te geven aan haar opponente Abiba Abuzhakynova (°97; Kaz; 22° WRL; 2°ACh ‘21 & ‘22), die uiteindelijk met veel mazzel wel brons zal behalen (uitsluiting van Nikolic in 1/4-fin en een 3de shido (s2/s3) tegen Vargas Ley na 9′15″min in de laatste kamp).

Ellen Salens (°96; /-48kg; 42° WRL; JS Merelbeke): out (1 own) Ellen start tegen leeftijdsgenote Estefania Soriano (°96; Dom; 49° WRL), die binnen de top-50 staat dankzij haar brons op de PACh dit jaar. (in 2019 won ze die overigens). >> video : na zowat 30″sec een spectaculaire heupworp van Ellen, maar de waza-ari werd herroepen, en de daaropvolgende houdgreep kon Ellen niet aanhouden; na 1′50″ uiteindelijk wél een score; wat verder nog volgde was een evenwichtige strijd, en één waarbij Ellen probleemloos de kleinere Dominikaanse kon afhouden: de waza-ari winst (01s0/00s2) werd beloond met een kamp tegen Shirine Boukli. In deze 1/16-fin tegen de Française moet Ellen als voorspelbaar het onderspit delven; een eerste tomoe-nage van Boukli blijft zonder gevolg, maar wanneer na 50″sec Ellen een uchi-mata rateert, neemt Shirine onmiddellijk over met uchi-mata en ippon. >> video. lim hansol is, tentatively, named and given a birthday in a run down orphanage on the outskirts of busan. he was left there when he was only a few months old, abandoned outside a restaurant until someone found him and gave him to the orphanage

the sweetest, cutest little baby! always saw the brighter side of things! looked at the glass as half full! ready to pour his own water to fill it to the brim! even when life was hard and things were dull and unfair, he still looked up and hoped for the best! which really is a recipe for disaster for a naive, too-trusting orphan on his own.

gets taken under the wing of an older girl at the orphanage, minah. she’s hansol’s entire world so when she ages out of the system, he decides he’s coming with her to seoul. they’ll make a life there, he’s SURE! all they have to do is stick together

and for a while, they do

except, minah’s always had bigger dreams than the tiny apartment they share with four other roommates. she wants to be Somebody, and hansol, who’s always been content with what he has, didn’t quite fit into that future

so she left

she tried her best before she did, setting him up to live with (and work for) angelo and invictus. but still. she left.

so hansol lives in the di soriano house, working as a barista and moonlighting as a drug dealer. he goes to school part time and only graduated recently! but he’s doing his best! he hasn’t spoken to minah since she left, but he knows she’s doing well. she’s gotta be.

THE LOST DIGNITY

( Extrajudicial Killing)

In the city of Manila is covered by a variety of illegal activities such as theft, gambling, drug trafficking, and more. There is a village which is called barrio Ilang-ilang, in this village live various classes of people. In this village there were also various groups with various illegal activities led by the group called the Dugas gang. This group is led by Macario Rayala alias Mario and his associates Ronnie, Melchor, and Ronald. They are orphaned friends and from childhood they have been wandering the streets.

Because of their dark lifestyle they learned to do bad things in order to survive. As they get older they still carry on the bad habits, they resort to illegal drugs. As time goes by, there has been an issue in Manila called Extra Judicial Killings or EJK it is a crime in which people suspected of wrongdoing are carelessly killed without knowing what is the cause or fault of them. Cause it to worry and to have a fear of friends, but they continued their illegal activities.

One day Mario went to the market to buy rice and the dish, and after he passed by a barber shop and he saw a newspapers on the side and he read aloud and friends quarreled next to him, and went to his friends. Mario saw his friends and he said Hey friends Ronnie replied "oh what are you coming from? Mario said hmm... in the market Ronnie replied ahhmm.. so is then Mario said I have read in the newspaper Ronald answered what is it? Mario replied I read that the killing is getting worse Melchor answered I feel that issue will soon come to our village Ronald replied yes I feel like it's time to stop pushing drugs Ronnie answered right because we don't know if we're going to kill next then Mario answered you have a point but where can we find our livelihood? Ronald replied yes, we will not stop but we will be careful of our actions Mario answered that's correct, okay good bye I'm going home..

When Mario came home he wondered if it would be right to continue their illegal activities or stop it and just look for a decent job but he always through of the word " no one will accept him because he is uneducated". Mario and his friends continue to push drugs, they are scared but they still carry on their work, even if they do not want to do what they do, they will continue to do so because they are uneducated and have no job. They knew nothing else to help them with their lives but only to push illegal drugs.

Their customers are freighters, jeepney drivers and much more, even young people are thier costumers. They were able to forget their dignity just to be alive they knew it was wrong but they thought they had to do it for their own sake. One day they went to their patrons to supply drugs but others refused because they were afraid to be among the victims of Extra Judicial Killings so some of thier sales declined. The next morning ronald rushed to Mario's house to tell the bad news. "Ronald knocking on the door" Mario said who is that? Ronald answers ronald is here open the door!! then Mario replied just wait a moment I get dressed Ronald answers hurry up Mario! then "Mario opened the door" Ronald said Mario!, Ronnnie is dead! Mario was shocked and he answered what!? Ronald replied He was found earlier in a vacant lot with a shotgun and the paper with letter written on it "I'm a drug pusher, don't imitate me" so Mario was getting unhappy then he said let's go to him! with a weak voice.

They went to ronnie's house and as they came closer to her house their eyes gradually began to shed tears of sadness over their friend's death. One day after their friend was buried, Mario who was known as their leader, decided to surrender to the police to ensure the safety of each of them, they were sentenced to a four years' imprisonment.They lacked and suffered great hardships in the jail, they were tortured and beaten by their fellow prisoners, but despite of all of this they survived.

Four years later, Mario and their friends were released and they were able to recover that life. Mario had a girlfriend named Rosa and they eventually got married, Melchor joined his provincial acquaintance to work there, and Ronald bought his own tricycle to use it on his business. Mario and his wife Rosa set up their own small business. despite all this, friendships have come with a sense of purpose and dignity that has led them to change lives.

The days passed, Mario and Rosa went to church to ask for forgiveness for their sins and then went to the tomb of his friend Ronnie. After two years, Mario and his friends had a happy and harmonious life, but Mario unexpectedly had a serious problem his wife Rosa was suffering stage 2 breast cancer, their business gradually falling and Rosa's illness was getting worse so it had to be operated as soon as possible, it needed a huge amount of money so Mario was forced to sell everything he bought and still ask for help from his friends but not yet he had enough money to pay for his wife's medical expenses.

Mario is forced to return to bad behavior and is ready to do bad just for his wife, he pushes drugs again and gradually gains money, Mario continues pushing drugs even though he knows it is dangerous because there's a possibility that he will be like to his friend, but it was all taken care of by Mario, and he continued to push drugs until her husband was healed. But one night he went out to buy at the store, and Mario was shoots by unidentified armed men until he died. Mario and Ronnie died of their own sin but that will be never enough reason to die in an unjust way.

MRG Apartment, Spain

The MRG Apartment project consists of the interior updating of an apartment in the center of the city of Valencia. Fran Silvestre Arquitectos ordered the space looking for the continuity of the rooms, integrating the structural elements of the existing building within the divisions and the carpentry.

The plan is understood as three longitudinal bands that allow through ventilation. An area where you can work with generous natural lighting is incorporated into the main area of the house. A system of sliding carpentry allows incorporating or dividing the kitchen space from the living room depending on the situation.

A gym, a water area, a fireplace, a terrace facing south over the treetops of Gran Vía (the healthy biophilia) and various facilities give the apartment a level of comfort that sometimes you do not want to leave.

The materiality of the intervention is conceived as a kind of epidermis that naturally incorporates everything necessary, the installations, the storage, leaving it hidden and protected. It is made using natural materials that improve the conditions of the interior environment of the house, simplifying cleaning and maintenance.

The vertical walls and the ceiling in a 9016 tone encourage light to penetrate throughout the house, the wood on the floor along with other elements such as the artificial lighting provides the warmth that helps transform this space into perhaps more than just a house.

CCA Manila’s 25th Silver Year: Bringing Culinarians and Foodies Together Online

Spanning 25 years of professional culinary education excellence, CCA Manila celebrated its silver anniversary by showcasing the talents of Filipino chefs through a series of insightful webinars that featured Filipino gastronomy, heritage, and food. As a trailblazer in the culinary industry, CCA Manila continuously nurtures its students by providing innovative culinary education and instilling in them a strong values foundation based on hard work, passion, and creativity.

CCA Manila kicked off its anniversary with the “Cook for the World” virtual event with Rep. Toff de Venecia, who shared his thoughts on Filipino Gastronomy and Heritage Policy. The Hungry Kat was able to join these virtual discussions together with all the other guests who simply had to turn on their Zoom apps. The second speaker, Ige Ramos, an award-winning book designer, food writer, and artist, talked about “Pride in Filipino Gastronomic Roots.” Ramos believed that before cooking other cuisines, one should understand what you cook at home. On the other hand, anthropologist Dr. Mike Tan discussed the “Filipino Diaspora, Heritage, and Food.” Filipino food, according to him, is the original fusion cuisine – a mix of Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Western, and Pacific Islander flavors that shows the country’s rich and varied cultural history.

On the second day of the five-day online festivities, CCA Manila invited Entrée Pinays to showcase how they promoted Filipino cuisine that is still under-represented in Australia. They shared to the audience how they created the Barrio Food Festival and how they empowered the use of Filipino ingredients such as calamansi, as well as how they curated a pantry store called Merkado. Nicole Ponseca, restaurateur and cookbook author based in New York, discussed “Sustaining Cravings for Filipino Food.” She is known for bringing Filipino food to the American mainstream audience way back when it was unheard of. Nicole introduced Filipino cuisine to New York diners by simply working on her strategy – “having a viewpoint, understanding your audience, and utilizing a creative brief.” Nicole has established successful restaurants such as Maharlika and Jeepney. From a trendy point of view, Chef Angelo Guison stressed the importance of storytelling through online content creation. He said that you need to be true to yourself and do something close to your heart. And most important, your content has to be catchy. This is also what Chef John Buenaventura shared to the online audience. Named Executive Chef at the newly opened Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island, he said that it is important to re-discover Filipino heritage dishes and promote them globally via online platforms. One also has to take risks and work hard in order to earn respect in the culinary world.

Today, Filipino cuisine and talents are recognized globally. It is also worth mentioning the CCA graduates around the world are bringing Filipino cuisine and talent forward – Migo Razon as the Executive Chef in Sheraton Melbourne, Andrew Soriano and Jessabel Granada with their Nanam restaurant in New Zealand, Kim and Jay Prieto the owners of Lolo and Lola that recently won People's Choice Awards 2019 in Canberra, as well as Chef JP Anglo through its Filipino Food Forward campaign cooking around the Philippines, representing Filipino cuisine in San Sebastian, Dubai and Melbourne. Aside from having a passion for food, education, and cooking, all the brilliant and notable speakers have one thing in common and that is how they recognize and put pride in Filipino produce, heritage, and talent. They may all have different food stories to tell, but it all boils down to this: “Food brings people together!”
