Spoilers for Andromeda Six episode 5 under the cut. These are my thoughts concerning the whole episode and theories about things going forward.

Once again, do not read if you ain’t caught up

I’m pretty sure that Vexx, if he ain’t dead, will end up in a coma or just seriously injured. For angst’s sake, I’m hoping for coma. And I know, I know, I was pretty anti-Vexx in my previous walkthrough, but welp. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No need for my characters to do anything, the universe is paying him back generously.

“But he didn’t intentionally betray us!” Tell that to my MC’s eldest sister. ....Uh-oop--- 🤣🤣🤣

Let me stop ragging on him. I sincerely do wish he gets help and therapy and retire in solitude.

June still manages to hurt me, even when I was playing on separate save files with different LI. I don’t see him as monstrous, even when he was Hulking out in the lab. His parents were experimenting on he and his twin in the womb. They didn’t have a chance at all. But there’s a comment June made this episode that got me thinking: is his dad dead and did June kill him or is he the scientist that Zovack picked up on Orion? June’s mom better run, he likely to pull a King Kong move; go to the highest building and throw her off it.

Wasn’t a big fan of Damon at first. After several playthroughs on ep4, I warmed up to him but he really brought it in episode 5. I love that once you get past his sarcastic, snarky behavior, he reveals he’s not just a bad boy with overwhelming sex appeal and flirtiness, he’s got feelings. 🤤🤤🤤 That’s my Kryptonite! BYE THE BOY IS MINE.

Cal. Cal. Cal. Cal, what--- wait, what??? fskljflf Another LI I apparently wrote off too quick. He was such a bastard I couldn’t help choosing the sassy and bold options, wanting to put him in his place but it quickly turned into this Dom/bratty!sub thing and I’mdone. It’s clear to me that in episode 3-4, my boy was pent up and ready to lock MC in the Captain’s quarters and have them screaming “MORE”. Then he just flat out admitted it in this episode and I am uNDONE.

Aya, woooooooooo. I thought she was bossy and in charge, I ain’t even lyin’. Baby girl know she fione and be using that to maximum effect. Instead of my usual blush-y tentative dialogue choices, I decided to go full on bold and sassy again. aND HER REACTIONS JUST ABOUT DESTROYED ME. The amount of times she blushed and was taken aback had me rollin’. And then while in Cursa, she said, “Please, I’m really not that strong”. 😳😳😳 The soft sub energy here...

Bash captured my heart from day one. Ilovehimandhedeservestheworld. He’s always very upbeat and optimistic while not afraid to do the hard things. This time around, I got an emotionally stunted/repressed blush-y MC again. Only instead of being (understandably) a crybaby about the tragedy of their family being murdered, instead they chose to be aloof. Don’t think about it, don’t think about it, it didn’t happen, or if it did, I can’t be bothered to think about it, the people need saving-- Immediately Bash recognized this self-destructive behavior but instead of lecturing, offered an ear for venting and whatever they needed. #HusbandBehavior/YouCANBETHEKING

Ryona is a Queen. Periodt. There’s a subtle strength to her that always appealed to me, honestly. I liked that in episode 2, when those guys who had beef with Tilaari people as a whole, at first she didn’t even rise to the bait, but when my MC, a little start-something-but-can’t-back-it-up Tilaari prince, threw something at them, and they were about throw hands, she swooped in and p much handled it til June scared them away. I like that dynamic, to switch the trope from damsel in distress to man in distress (because he’s an idiot). There’s this aura about her that makes you wanna automatically respect her, and episode 4, again, she proved her competence and this trend continued in ep 5. Even strong people need someone to take care of them.

Hooooooo boy this was long. Sorry!

If y’all got to this far though, you have my respect. I honestly think the end goal is whether or not the MC will take the crown or remain with A6 crew. And if I’m really honest with myself, I doubt some of these LI will stick with MC if they decide to continue on as the next Peg’asi ruler. Also, I think Cursa being independent will come up again, too. I doubt we’re just hopping planet to planet for nothing...

The Second Wind

Part I of some original fiction I’m currently working on. Set far in the future, it deals with a sentient spaceship and a crew of misfits and their many mishaps.

Dr. Owens and several members of her team approached The Second Wind while it was still docked at Andromeda Station. Skyler had volunteered to go alone—there was no point in tying up everyone’s schedule for an inspection—but Iris and Tayo wouldn’t hear of it.

The Wind was a large, passenger-class vessel that looked like a giant cylinder with a separate engine compartment that was loosely coupled with the ship’s main body. From a distance, as Sky and the others rode up to its docking bay via an enormous monorail system, she could just make out the external antennas that comprised the ship’s communication array.

Surrounding them lay hundreds of solar panels that captured any errant light particles that might stray near the vessel’s thick hull. Some of its previous journeys had been academic, so it made sense that this beast of a ship could be parked somewhere near a star to maintain its energy reserves.

Iris pressed her hands against the monorail car’s bullet-proof glass. “I didn’t think it would be so big,” the young technician whispered, her blue eyes wide.

Seated next to her, Tayo looked up from his personal surface and frowned. “At max capacity,” the engineer said in the tones of a teacher about to launch into a lecture, “it can house up to two hundred passengers comfortably. Most of that space is currently retrofitted with labs and data gathering equipment.”

The blue-eyed teenager gently kicked her teammate’s knee but she settled back down into her seat and stopped leaving fingerprints on the pristine glass. “I know that. I read all the same brochures. It’s just different in person.”

An automated voice came on over the intercom. “Next stop: docking bay eighteen. Please prepare to disembark.”

“Think the company folks are already there?” The technician grabbed her single backpack off the soft, semi-rubber floor and fiddled with a loose strap.

Sky checked her heads-up display. “Most likely. We’re running late.”

The twenty-passenger car slowed from break-neck speeds to something more manageable as it approached a hovering platform stationed across from the docking bay. The doors slid open onto a clean and well-maintained exit zone, and the three humans stepped out into a small open area.

The air smelled stale out here and the hum of an air circulation system provided constant background noise. Signs in three different human languages, as well as several more esoteric alien ones, directed outgoing passengers to follow the illuminated signs to their designated embarkation points.

Iris gazed down at the emptiness around them with unfiltered awe.

Andromeda Station—which was nowhere near the Andromeda galaxy and whose naming origins were fuzzy at best��was massive in size. In the center of the large, spherical station lay its habitats, where any number of species resided at any given time.

All around the station’s nucleus lay its transport ring, which surrounded the station like the skin of an onion. Thousands of ships could dock at one of its many bays, which were arrayed in neat circles that wrapped around the station’s interior like garland wreaths. The station and its ring lay inside a protective shield that kept the vacuum of space safely contained outside of itself.

Out here, close to the shield’s outer edges, the endless darkness was clearly visible through the protective barrier. The narrow circles that looked like decorations from the station’s habitable zones were actually long strands of monorail tracks. Individual cars like the one they had just exited, traversed along these tracks between the various docks on their particular strand.

And each dock was just a single, flat platform attacked directly to the railway tracks. Its other end was maneuverable and generally connected the closest and most convenient airlock on whichever ship was currently docked at that location. There was nothing underneath the platform save a great view of the station’s habitats below, wrapped themselves in another spherical shield for added protection.

Above and out was unyielding darkness. You couldn’t see the stars out here.

“Come on,” Tayo said when Iris was done gawking at the breathtaking view. “Did you know that the shield technology was one of the first ones we learned from another species?”

The technician shouldered her pack and followed the older crewmember down the narrow corridor that led the way toward their destination. “Of course, I did. History for Beginners.”

“They didn’t always teach it in school.” The dark-haired man shook his head. “Too inconvenient.”

A lot of Terra’s history was inconvenient, Sky reflected as she walked behind Tayo and the taller space-born woman. It was easier to pretend that human beings had always done the right thing than to teach the bloody crucible that had brought society from its humble beginnings on a single world to its current spacefaring present.

“That’s stupid,” Iris said, echoing the unspoken sentiment.

“You were born in more enlightened times.” Tayo chuckled and switched the hand he was using to carry his bag.

Sky pushed a stubborn lock of green hair out of her eyes. “More importantly, please be careful. The shield is thinner out here, and if you fall off one of these platforms, your next destination is going to be outer space. Rather quickly.”

Iris stuck her tongue out at the team leader. “I’ll be fine. It’s perfectly safe.”

“You would know,” Sky said easily.

There were railings, of course, and security precautions, to keep squishy flesh bodies from being expelled into the void. But, nothing was ever entirely fool-proof, and even seemingly impenetrable shields had experienced breaches before.

Before the conversation could veer somewhere else interesting, the trio came to a set of large atmospheric barriers, and beyond them, Sky could make out two figures in formal, black attire. “Looks like there’s our warm welcome.”

“They give me the creeps,” Iris whispered.

The two beings, both wrapped entirely in black cloth, looked a little bit like the spiders of Old Earth. Their eyestalks undulated in a synchronized wave pattern that suggested a marital partnership, but with the D’nai there was no way to tell for sure. Theirs was a private species that shared very little with the Alliance.

“It’s your genetic predisposition speaking.” The biologist of the group didn’t look any less creeped out, but he made an effort to plaster a smile on his face.

“Good afternoon ladies, gentleman,” the spider on the left said as it gracefully moved its two front limbs in a welcoming gesture. “I’m glad you were able to make it here so promptly. Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m Echo-Delta-Three-Eleven. This is my companion, Seven-Eighteen.” The other spider waved a limb when it was introduced.

“A pleasure,” Sky said, mirroring the gesture. “I believe we spoke to your associated via ansible in the past.”

“Yes, that is correct. Unfortunately, Lima-Echo-Six-Nine was not able to make the journey here so we came in its stead. Are you ready for the transfer?”

“Yes, of course.” The green-haired woman decided she would be ready, just to get this over with. “Please, let’s begin.”

“Would you like to do a walkthrough of the ship first?” Seven-Eighteen asked.

At Tayo’s expressive glance, Sky resigned herself to an hour of sales talk. “Yes, that would great. I’d like to know more about The Wind if you’re able to give us any details.”

Truthfully, Sky and the rest of the team had worked overtime to find a ship appropriate for their mission. Both the one they presented as a front and the one they meant to undertake once they had a means of transportation. This was all formality—Dr. Owens knew what there was to know about the vessel, with its debris deflector array and its impressive communication capabilities.

But it was a formality she was willing to sit through to avoid any unnecessary questions later.

The closest alien nodded and brought its eyestalks together in some gesture that the human couldn’t interpret. “Well, in that case, please follow me.”
