genuinely shocked at the amount of people that think character death = good story. In most circumstances, character deaths seem like an easy way out for shock value rather than meaningful development (Signora for example). Some of the best character arcs are those where the writers had to figure out how to develop the character in the arc of the story rather than just killing them and moving on

so the rumors were true, childe was eager to fight, perhaps even eager to kill. most people would have found him disturbing if this had gotten out, but kaeya alberich was certainly not “most people”. of course, it certainly didn’t seem like childe cared who knew, either. such confidence in one’s own abilities was certainly admirable!
“don’t get me wrong, i know some people who would enjoy making a proper threat out of such an offer...” kaeya laughed, before grinning at the harbinger. “but neither signora or dottore were very partial to bonding, let alone sparring. you, on the other hand, make yourself quite the warrior. perhaps even a knight, if i were to be so bold.”
not only that, but it was much cheaper and less likely to result in arguments than bickering over who was paying whose tab. actually, on that note...
"how about an incentive, hm? besides the desire to do so, of course...whoever loses pays the winner’s tab next time.” a double-edged sword, of course. for one night, the payment would already be claimed, and kaeya doubted childe would try flubbing a fight on purpose.
that wasn’t to say that kaeya planned to do so. that’d simply be ridiculous.
