One of our neighbors is this nosy lady with an awful little chihuahua that comes up and barks at us and shits where it wants because she never has it on leash. It makes me furious.

She saw me taking Wyvern out and asked if he was new. I said yes, he’s still getting the hang of things. She asked his breed and he’s honest to god the muttiest mutt I’ve ever seen. Big time dog people in my life are stumped when they see him because he’s honestly bizarre and doesn’t harken very strongly to any established breed.

When I said he was a mutt though she said, “Probably a pit bull, look at that face!”

And I looked at Wyverns face and was frankly shocked anyone would think he looked like a pit bull. But from her tone and body language I was wary of her spreading it around and said truthfully, “Well, the only thing all the siblings in his litter looked like was border collie, so probably the most of that.”

She wandered away unconvinced and I told my betrothed later, “Okay, I need you to practice this lie with me.”

“Okay?”

“When people ask what Wyvern is you’re gonna say he’s a border collie, akita mix, okay?”

They laughed but agreed. It’s a weird enough mix that I doubt he’ll raise eyebrows and his coloring could be Akita for all I know.

There’s way more mistrust and legislation against pitbulls that I feel is undeserved, but we’ll certainly be worse off if she starts spreading around that he’s a pibble.

I want to make a longer post about this someday but: I think Arya's TWOW arc is going to include her coming to terms with her identity as a Lady. This has been an ongoing conflict with her since her first chapter and I think her flowering in winds is going to mark a turning point. The theory of her having an apprenticeship with the courtesans holds a lot of weight and the idea of Arya going through puberty among a group of unconventional women she's fostered a positive relationship with is just too perfect. It would really have an impact on Arya reconciling her personal idea of what a Lady should be. There's also a lot that she could learn from them in terms of courtesies, communication, appearances, body-language, etc. that would elevate her current skill-set and ways her relationship with them could push the plot.

Not to mention she will undoubtedly reclaim her identity as Arya Stark, and her being a Lady is inseparable from that. Arya Stark is a Lady Stark and being a Lady is a social position, not a measure of how well someone preforms feminine tasks. She shouldn't have to relinquish her position because she doesn't fit patriarchal standards. That's not to say that she's ever going to be the perfect example of a traditional Lady but what I think will happen is that she becomes capable of playing the part. She plays several identities throughout the series but she's always been Arya underneath, so I think it's appropriate that she learns to adopt a "persona" that's part of her. Her remembering Ned putting on his "Lord's face" (+ the various examples of other characters being separate from their ruling persona) makes me think that Arya will be donning her "Lady's face" when she makes a return to Westeros.

But if we were to look at the rw timeline a meeting between Artificer and Spearmaster is actually MUCH more likely.

I've got more information/a rough idea:

. When artificer's pups die artificer continues on to find the nearest shelter not fully realising what happened. thinking that they won't come back next cycle. She starts her revenge, originally she hunted down the scav that killed her pup, then another scavenger who had witnessed it and another after that, until all the scavengers were after her.

. Afterall they were her little pups. Her young children who weren't yet used to the cycle. Or so she thought.Her pups wake up in a shelter alone and confused without their mother but try their best to travel the same path they had with their mother the previous cycle.

. They eventually make it to moon's can (the most reasonable idea I have of them getting up there is being picked up by a vulture only to get droped for much larger prey or they get fought over by other vultures who were resting on moon's can).

. They travel together down the access shaft and meet moon who gives them the mark of communication. I'm not exactly sure what she would say (but something along the lines of it not being safe for them, wondering where their parents are and asking them to find their parents and leave her structure, again as its not safe for them here).

. The pups being pups don't fully understand what this strange blue thing is saying to them, only really realising that they are very very hungry.Moon ends up feeding them (I find it kind of interesting that in spearmaster's campaign being given the mark of communication increases food pips). She sends them through the access shaft hoping for them to safely find shelter and their parents.

. The slugpups immediately return back to moon's room very confused as she sends them back out again. They find shelter and come back the next cycle to visit her. This repeats for a while until moon's can starts breaking down further essentially trapping them there for most of arti's story.

. During this time the pups and moon become very close, with moon being almost like a second parent to them. I can imagine the pups getting into all kinds of trouble.

. Eventually moon fully collapsed, the pups (now much older around monks age) are unable to find where her room and her puppet had gone under all the rubble and debris. Leading them to eventually leaving after giving up on cycles upon cycles of trying to find moon.

. They decide to try to befriend scavengers as they don't seem to recognise the pups as the ones who had been attacked so long ago. They hear stories of this violent terrifying slugcat with a scar over it's eye strong enough kill a 100 scavengers in a single cycle and how entire tribes of scavengers were now left fleeing from their previously safe home above the clouds.

. They come across a citizen ID drone (either the scav kings or a different one), either finding it randomly like artificer found hers or it being traded to them. remembering the scavengers stories they make the climb up five pebbles and meet him.

And that's how far I've gotten so far, I'm still figuring out what the pups and artificer's reaction to meeting each other would be.

Would the pups reunite with their mother and try to make back the time they missed? Would they understand her decision on violence against scavengers? Would they even recognise artificer as their mother or see her as a monster, something terrifying that should be feared and avoided? Would artificer even remember what her pups looked like after all this time or would they be like strangers to her? Would the pups think she abandoned them or would they understand what happened?

I have so many ideas.

It’s been just over a week and Cody’s already so much bigger. It’s bananas. Like how a sim ages up overnight, I wake up and he’s a bit bigger. Looks a month different already, and he’s put on a whole kilogram (while still being trim - all healthy mass).

He’s a lot calmer inside, getting his manners, learning what to chew and not chew, and is working on his separation anxiety. Outside is…tricky and he’s still scared (bolshy terrier-like not cowering sense) of most things and maybe herding-y and/or a bit prey-drivey (pls do not try to chase the cars sir), but we’re taking exposure to things slow and with vegan cheese and paté and peanut butter. Hates the rain, but at least means he hasn’t discovered the joy of rolling in the mud yet. He’s having a quick trip back to the rescue to get his second vaccine today, and it’ll be another week after that before he can even start going places anyway so hopefully we’ll see some progress before then. But we’re not going to try and ram in all that socialisation he should otherwise have had at 8-14 weeks, and instead just slowly work at his comfort level so we don’t overwhelm him.

(And as per usual, I remind you while you look at this cute baby, that you do NOT want a puppy. If you want a fun dog, you do in fact want a dog. Rescues can in fact often have easy dogs, they’re not all trauma cases or behavioural issues, if you’re afraid that they might be too much to handle versus getting a puppy, a puppy is harder cus you’ll have to train it out of every behavioural issue anyway, it’s a 24 hour job that requires at least two people in your household to co-parent, and the beginning months are as bad as a baby but this one can’t wear a diaper and can run fast and bites with shark teeth)
