Gwenog Jones ( an introduction )
THE BASICS
Name: Gwenog Jones
Gwenog: Welsh, variant of Gwynedd, meaning white, fair, blessed.  Gwenog wonders if her parents knew that she would come to be the opposite of all of those things and if ther name was given to her as some sort of inside joke.
Jones: Welsh, Ioan's son.  Gwenog thought that perhaps was a cutting name too, a reminder that she could never be the son her father wanted.
Gender/Gender Identity: cisfemale, she/her
Age & Birthday: 28 years old, December 28th
Astrology Sign: Capricorn Sun, Libra Moon
Capricorn Sun- feet on the ground, eyes on the prize, realistic, grounded, the person that gets thing done, useful, effective, need for recognition, respect for society, building the framework, simple pleasures, status symbols, reserved, standoffish, resourceful, tradition, responsibility
Libra Moon- strong need for partnership, social, enjoys debating, charming, flirtatious, refined, diplomatic, winner, striving for the best, perfectionism
Sexuality: Pansexual
Gewnog has never wished much for romance.  She always desired a partner of sorts, but that was a role that was always filled by Bellatrix Black, and she never wanted or needed anything else.  But when it comes to sex, she finds that she doesn't mind overmuch where she gets it, and it comes to her when when needs it.  Gender doesn't matter to her as much as politics, and she finds her tastes tend towards women just because she finds them slightly less annoying than the underhanded misogyny of most purebloods.
FIRST LAYER
House: Slytherin
Gwenog saw being sorted into Slytherin as evidence that she'd arrived.  That she was exceeding her father's limited expectations of her and she was going to prove everyone wrong.  It was proof that she belonged as a part of the elite and that she was going places.  She excelled there among her peers, and made a point to be the best Slytherin that had ever come through their halls.
Occupation: Head of the Foreign Affairs Department, Ministry of Magic
Gwenog always knew she was destined for a life in politics.  The cutthroat nature of it, viscous but held behind private smiles and impeccable dress. She needed the power, she needed the prestige.  And who better to be in control than someone like her?  Foreign affairs might not have been her first choice, but she excelled at it and continued to learn more and more as she  traveled. How to be better, how to run a more efficient government with a tighter rule.  How to make necessary sacrifices. It's all preparing her for her ultimate chance to rule.
Loyalty: Death Eaters
Gwenog had never felt  a part of anything until Bellatrix pulled her into her world and she saw what was possible.  It  wasn't about serving a world that didn't work for them, but creating a new one where they could rule, mete out justice, make real change.  She is as loyal to the cause as she is to Bellatrix and she would give anything to see it succeed.  Just like Bellatrix did.
Wand: 10 inches, Aspen, Phoenix feather, unyielding
Aspen- fine grained and highly prized, looks like ivory.  Well suited to charmwork, dueling and martial magics.  Aspen wand owners are strong-minded and determined, one who undertakes epic quests, a wand for revolutionaries.
Phoenix feather -rare, picky, hard to tame and personalize, independent and detached.  Gwenog sees the fact that her wand has such a core as a sign that she's destined for greatness, that she's been chosen to stand out from the pack, and that is exactly what she intends to do.
Unyielding - Gwenog is not a flexible sort of person.  She's decided who she is and what she stands for and doesn't anticipate any of it changing.  She is hard because she has to be, and success is a forgone conclusion as far as she's ever been concerned.
Boggart: Failure, Anonymity.
The thing Gwenog fears most is not making a name for herself, not making a difference.  She has what she feels is a just and noble cause and she refuses to be on the losing side.  It's all or nothing.
Patronus: Dragon
- a person with a dragon patronus exemplifies passion and  ambition, and a fury like no other.  Not generally angry by nature, they have a drive that fuels them.  They can seem cold and blunt, often encasing their emotions within themselves. They are strong in their convictions, garnering both fear and respect.  Quick to lead and never backing down from a challenge.
Amortentia:
It's the cool smell of damp stone, something wholly and completely Slytherin and it's home.  It's finding your place for the very first time, being important. It's crowding together in basement rooms and whispering secrets while the stones hold vigil around you.  It's the distinct smell of fine silk, so potent it's like feeling it brush against  your cheek, speaking of fine things, of status.  It's her, brushing against you in the hallway, black silk on dark skin and knowing that there is nothing quite so fine that exists in the world other than the moment you exist in right now. It's the dark floral bouquet of Bellatrix's perfume, the ancient and the modern combined, distinct but lovely. She's the only person you've ever really loved, the only one  you've ever trusted and it's stolen deep into you heart, a flower with thorns.  It's the sharp bite of a bitter red wine, hints of oak and cedar, a dash of coffee. It's elegance and anger all at once, and it tastes a little like dying, but in the best way possible.
SECOND LAYER
Defining Moments:
-Gwenog is eight years old when she decides she's never getting married.  She watches her mother every day of her life and loves her completely.  She watches how she is when her father is at work. She's smart, she knows things, she's capable.  Gwenog hears stories about how her mother wanted to be a lawyer, sees her mother's collection of books on law hidden in the drawers of her vanity. She sees her mother as a proud woman, an intelligent woman, a woman capable of so much more.  Her mother is, simply put, her hero.  But when Father comes home, things change.  Her mother changes.  She gets smaller, she say yes and no and averts her eyes.  She's not her mother anymore she's like a toy that Father plays with and puts back on the shelf when he's done.  Just like Gwenog.  Women are toys to men, she understands that very early and with a very mature kind of anger.  She will never be a man's toy.  No.  She won't be marrying anyone ever, and she'll make everyone else be a toy for her.
-She is sixteen years old and Bellatrix Black is her entire world.  Bella had always been a force of nature, like an elegant kind of tornado, ripping through the world like a top, stealing the air from everyone around her. It's masterful, how she does it, and Gwenog learns from her.  She learns how to pair that elegant kind of ambition with her own, merges two halves together to become some kind of new whole.  Gwenog, who never wanted to be beholden to anyone, knows she's beholden to Bellatrix Black.  It should upset her, but she can't really bring herself to care.  It occurs to her then, oddly, that maybe she's a little in love with Bellatrix, evidenced by the tightness in her chest and how furious she feels when talk of matches and betrothals comes up for either of them.  It's something she keeps in her heart, beautiful and fragrant like a rose, but sharp with thorns.  Gwenog likes it that way, though, it makes it real.  It's not for anyone else, it's just for her.  She knows she'll never let her think about it overmuch, and she'll never say anything. It's something completely hers and she's jealous of it, a dragon guarding it's gold.
-She is twenty-two, and she's setting fire to the goddamn world.  Gwenog is a rising star in the foreign affairs department- smart, strong, with a quick wit and a silver tongue.  She knows just who to be depending on where she is, and every time she makes a trip home, she has another feather in her cap.  Even her long suffering father can't say much about it.  He's even stopped pressuring her about finding a decent husband, because she's a treasure in her own right now, bringing glory to the family all on her own.  Gwenog loves more than anything how it burns him, knowing that his daughter is bringing more prestige to the family than he ever could. Gwenog loves watching him choke on it.
-She is twenty-eight, and she and Bellatrix have flipped the world on it's head just like they always planned.  It's beautiful, really, watching the world burn and knowing that they'll rise from the ashes like the phoenix's they are. Finding that Bella didn't survive is a blow that almost knocks the legs out from under her and it comes with a kind of pain that is difficult to shoulder. Gwenog has always had a chip on her shoulder, but now she has a boulder too, the weight of her grief pressing her down into the ground. But she grits her teeth and keeps standing.  Her life has always been a bit of a "fuck you" to the patriarchy, so why not let it be a "fuck you" to death as well?  Bellatrix is better than being a martyr, and Gwenog won't let that be her only legacy.  Rodolphus may be the one in power now, but it won't be forever.  Gwenog is smart, she can bide her time and strengthen her allies across the sea.  One thing is for sure, she knows someone is going to answer for Bella, and Gwenog won't hesitate when the day comes.  Her hands never shake.  She's ready.
Personality Traits:
Dynamic- characterized by constant change, activity, progress - Gwenog is progress itself, she is the trickle of water that carves stones, mutable, changing with the winds and the signs of the time as she carves a path for herself.  To some she seems a chameleon, but Gwenog knows she is a constant, other people just see what she wants them to.
Forthright- direct and outspoken, straightforward, honest - Gwenog doesn't have time for mincing words or saying things she doesn't mean. It's why people value her.  It's why she's trusted in so many countries across the world.  She can say it all nicely, of course, but it will be said.  Silence is death, and she plans on living a very long time.
Austere- severe or strict in manner, attitude, or appearance - The world may be full of greys, but Gwenog has no time for them.  Things are right or wrong and she knows which is which and she will follow the line of her right to the very end.  She's called icy, she's called cruel, but she feels like she's neither.  She is just a crusader for right, and some people refuse to understand that.
Aloof- not friendly or forthcoming, cool and distant - Gwenog will not be her mother, putting on a face and playing nice with those that would hold power over them. No.  She will face the world and not give it an inch.  Every smile will be earned, every word will be necessary.
Irascible- having or showing a tendency to be easily angered - It's not that she has a short temper really.  It's that she's always angry to begin with.  The world holds innumerable horrors, and the more she sees women pushed down and held back, the angrier she gets. She doesn't want to be the stereotype of an angry black woman, but she will be.
Mephistophelian- wicked, fiendish- There's so much to hate about the world as it is, Gwenog can't help but gleefully watch it burn.  Every bit of discord she sews is a boon to her, something bright and beautiful she can tuck close to her chest to keep her warm.
THIRD LAYER
What are your character’s best and worst branches of magic?
Gwenog excels at charms and dueling magic.  For all that she is an excellent stateswoman, she would have been an apt soldier.  She was the head of the dueling club in her years at Hogwarts, and much of her time she went undefeated.  She is not very strong at what she considers the softer arts- healing magics, divination and scrying.  She hasn't the patience for them, and finds them to be of less use anyway.  She'd rather break a bone than heal it.
What is your character’s greatest flaw?
Her own hubris.  Gwenog is excessively proud, she is extremely confident in herself and the place in the world she's meant for.  She's a very smart woman, she doesn't make missteps often, but every time she does, it's because her own pride had gotten in the way.  She's too close to recognize it, and puts it all down to bad luck when it happens.
What is your character’s main motivation/goal in life?
Power.  She's always seen men wield and wield it poorly, and she wants a turn at the wheel.  Gwenog has seen what power can do, what it can change, how it can protect, and she want it.  She wants as much of it as she can get.  She wants to shove hers in the face of every man that's ever told her she can't and make them kneel.
How does your character fall in love?
Slowly, and hardly at all.  She doesn't trust love, and she doesn't want it.  Gwenog wants companionship, but it's not the same thing. Love is power, love is dangerous. So she keeps her love to herself at all costs. It's precious.
