Hi I'm newish with FOB can you suggest some songs and maybe explain what's happening rn?
Hello Anon! Absolutely!
Right away a good place to start if you're overwhelmed is the Believers Never Die Volumes 1 and 2. Kinda a highlight reel, has all the popular songs. I'm the kind of person who likes to hear a band in order when I deep dive into them so Evening out with your girlfriend is also a good place to start, though many of us pretend this doesn't exist and to the best of my knowledge they don't play any of the songs live. If you prefer to skip then of course hop right into Take this to your grave. Ik you said SOME songs but I really love everything theres no such thing as a bad FOB song. If you're looking for what they might play at a concert I haven't been to a show where Dance Dance, Sugar, or Thnks Fr Th Mmrs haven't been played. And Every show I've been to has closed with Saturday.
Onto today's news. I'm sure you've already heard that a single dropped yesterday called "Love From The Other Side" Its wonderful. Album is coming out March 24th. the main news today is about Joe.
Quick rundown on the members Patrick is the singer and sometimes rhythm guitarist some times pianist whatever he's gotta do. Fun fact he originally played drums which is why we have the wonderful drum off video. Anyways he overheard Joe (who we will circle back to) talking in a book store and in true Patrick fashion jumped into the conversation. Joe invites him to play with him and Pete and thats where they get their start. Pete is the bassist, frontman, and screamer/some backing vocals he has written most of the songs and had been in a few bands previous which is how he knew Joe (and Andy but we'll get to that later), there's a lot of info on Pete but were just doing the basics so moving on. Joe is the lead guitar and does some backing vocals as well, as mentioned before Fall Out Boy basically only exists because of him. At the very beginning the three went through a couple of rhythm guitarists and drummers before Patrick took up rhythm guitar and enter Andy Hurley. Andy is from Milwaukee and knew Pete from shows he would travel to there. Andy is the drummer and all around cool dude.
Anyways back to the news about Joe. Last night he posted on both his personal instagram and the Fall Out Boy Instagram that he was going to be taking a break due to his mental health. Yes it's not ideal timing but anyone who has any sort of mental illness knows it goes downhill randomly and it doesn't care whats going on. I for one am thankful he has recognized that he needs this break instead of trying to push through this and only getting worse. There will be jokes here and there, because this is fob they are goofy nerds, but in general we are respecting Joe's decision and hoping for him to feel better. I'm not sure how far the other three are going to go without him. Like interviews and what not that they're already scheduled for probably will still happen as we saw with jimmy kimmel last night. As of right now as no tour is scheduled I think they will at least hold off until he's back for that but it's really up to Joe and the rest of the band for what will happen with all of this.
As always please be respectful of Joe while he's away.
Hope this helps anon!

Poly!Karlnapity Faceless!Streamer S/O 1
Too subborn to not face reveal
SFW
GN!Reader
Part 1 / Part 2
Had this in the drafts since April so I decided to share
This stream felt so much more nerve wracking than all your others before, that reason was because you were streaming with the other three people that you currently lived with, Quackity, Karl and Sapnap. You had to be careful neither of you were too loud in case any of the others mics picked it up on the other side of the wall and to say the least those three were not ones to not be heard in the next room over in any stream they did, relaxed or not. You knew this and still agreed when they begged you the morning before to hop onto the dream smp and help them build kinoko kingdom uncannonically.
The only reason you'd agreed with the mountain of editing and university assignments in the back of your head was because Karl was quite literally hanging off of you and you wanted to eat your weetabix before it got too soggy. They compromised and said they'd all play some games with some of the others before messing around for an hour or two so you weren't completed outnumbered three to one on the decision.
By the time you'd managed to wake up just enough to start booting up your set up, Karl was already banging on the door to remind you that they were starting in around five minutes and Sapnap had already got his starting soon screen up. You ruffled your hair about to at least get it out of your face and switched out from a hoodie into a tank top, it was about to get super hot in your room with sheer amount of time your PC is going to be on. While you waited for it to load up all your programs for the lengthy stream you threw on some joggers and tidied your shared emperor bed, you'd have to wait to wash the covers since they were so big and you'd need Karl to help you take them off later.
Quickly filling up your water bottle and checking all your settings were right, you pressed the start streaming button and broastcasted your starting soon screen. Sapnap had been waiting for a rather long time already no wonder he'd gotten a bit of a record on leaving his starting screen up for so long. Karl had started a couple of minutes ago, all who was left in the mess of a house to start was Quackity. Which you heard Karl shout down the hall to him to hurry up with his food and then you'd all join the rest of the discord call with Wilbur,Tommy, Dream and George after an intro together.
You were planning on doing Jackbox for an hour or two before you guys did anything Minecraft related content so it could either be really stressful or be very fun, I guess you'd find out soon.
After Alex had finally got his ass to his room and started you guys quickly going over the intro with a lot of the chat consisting of 'oh my god they're all streaming together' and 'I can't keep up there's too many to watch' with some widepeepos you all joined the main call and started with Quiplash.
A couple of games had flown by and the topic had switched over drastially as one of the prompts read out 'Who would you never bring home to your mother?' The first anwser filpped over read in bold 'dream' as Sapnap started to laugh a little too suspiciously with Wilbur, the other flipping over reading,
'Faceless minecraft streamer'
"Oi, who said that you cocks" You said outloud as your chat also sped up.
"Oh shit, I forgot that Y/N was a faceless streamer for a sec" Alex manically giggled as everyone voted, It was Alexs quip against Nicks.
You could faintly hear a 'Pandering' and 'Why are you guys always trying to target me' in the background from Dream and a 'It's okay Dream I won't Pander' from George, You at least hoped Georges chat was okay.
"Yeah don't forget you have to live with this faceless streamer!" You hadn't realised until you said it as just an off-handed comment.
It fell silent as Wilbur and Tommy were still laughing at Quackity's comment.
You could see Karl and Alex pause for a second in their facecams in the discord screen and try to not read the hundreds of comments coming through their chats as you facepalmed for being so careless. Only when the round had completely moved on and Dream had started arguing with Sapnap did you tune back in completely.
Shit.
Over the next twenty minutes or so nothing raised suspicion even if most if not all of your chats had been going wild, yours and Quackity's especially. It wasn't until Wilbur suggested we move on and play patently stupid for a little bit to finish up instead. You had awkwardly laughed and went along with it.
You realised you had gotten paired with Wilburs prompt as soon as you read it. You were very close friends with Will and he was one of the people that actually knew about your relationship with Alex,Nick and Karl apart from Clay and George. So of course being the little shit of a close friend he is decided to push it with the living arrangment thing, which you will admit was very out of character but you guessed it was rather late in Britian right now and he was probably on his second wine of the night and thought fuck it and actually incuded it in the presentation you need to present,
To over six hundred thousand people collectively across everyones streams.
As soon as the headline hit the screen you closed your eyes and took a deep breath, it didn't really matter chat knew you were living together but you bet it wouldn't go down well, especially since your were the one that didn't want the information out on the internet in the first place and Karl,Nick and Alex were the ones trying to convince you otherwise anyways.
"My problem is" you sighed "I can't seem to stay away from Karlnapity" Wilbur started to laugh as Tommy caught on.
The image came up off four stick figures and a house "The solution is, move in" You slammed your desk as you started to laugh at the faces Karl and Alex were making as you read the last slogan out.
"I don't think we need to read this one guys" You could hear Karl over Tommy and Wilburs wheezing and you knew he was only saying that for you.
You knew that the boys didn't ultimately care if the viewers found out that they lived together but they knew you didn't want to reveal it for a while longer. Not to mention getting serious with the chat about your relationship with all of them and the relationship they had with each other.
"Chat..." You started.
"Chat, chat stop it with the- the Karlnapity spam. Stop it" Alex spoke in his british accent, You could tell he was getting very nervous and you also hadn't heard from Nick since the start of your turn.
"Sapnap, you still with us, buddy" You released a sigh as Karl spoke through stream muted discord almost like he was reading your mind.
A few moments went by as Tommy and Wilbur had finally calmed down and you could hear the faint noise of the unmute button.
"I've been shouting at you guys this whole time and I was on mute!" Dream started to laugh again as George chuckled. "Sapnap you idiot"
"Okay, sorry Dream I panicked, w-w-what do you expect me to say"
"Why were you panicking huh Sapnap, Why were you panicking so much you pushed your mute button" George was just plain giving in at this point.
You smiled to yourself as you thought of something that would take everyone by surprise.
"Guys, guys" You got a couple of replies "You know how I think this solution works" You grinnned.
"No we don't, whatever are you talking about Y/n" Wilbur chimed in, he really chose violence today.
"Oh wanna bet Wilbur" Whatever you were thinking. you so had to go for it now.
"Yes" That was all Wilbur had to say.
"I'll show you the success rate of this solution chat" You went on mute. A 'How?' from Tommy and a 'Oh no' from Karl as he started nervously giggling came after trying to keep a composed state for his stream.
You quickly unmuted to say one last thing "Wait here for a moment chat and while you're at it, why don't you open up Karls stream to watch something interesting while I'm gone" Karl swung his chair side to side with a panicked grin on his face, chewing on his nails, in disbelief as he knew exactly what you were doing.
"No, Y/n. C'mon you can't do this" He giggled again "You wouldn't" he started to click on his keyboard seemingly fidgeting.
"Oh but I would" You muted again and took off your headphones, putting on one of Sapnaps hoodies that he left in your room, a random pair of socks and some shorts trying to be as quick as possible.
Out the door you went.

Fools in Love (8/10)
Double Date, Quadruple Header
1980
"And the last item on the agenda..." said the inspector as he assigned locomotives to trains. "There is a series of special trains going to Suddery from the mainland on this coming Sunday. 46 040, you and 35 102 will take the morning arrivals, and more engines will be assigned at a later time."
"Wow," said Delta with a healthy dose of sarcasm and faux cheer - she didn’t like this inspector and his clear bias towards steam engines. A special train from him could easily be carrying garbage. "A special! Is it a special special, or is it a really special special?"
"I hope it's a special special special, with special carriages." Bear said with equal sarcasm. "Then everything will be specially special!"
"Special has ceased to be a real word now." Duck said in a small voice while the inspector glared over the top of his spectacles.
"You will find out on Sunday." He said firmly. "Now get to work."
Tumblr media
Bear and Delta arrived at Barrow on the front of separate trains - the Limited and the Express, to find the yard in disarray.
A seething Class 08 was shuttling back and forth while the trucks laughed at him. Bear, who had arrived second, watched as Delta didn't even try to help, and instead was mocking the 08 as he hurled insults at her, the trucks and the coaches.
This didn’t make the shunter any happier, and he began bumping and banging coaches until a particularly bold rake of third class carriages slipped their brakes on and refused to move an inch, trapping the disagreeable shunter deep inside a siding.
To make matters worse, none of the cars for the "incredibly special specials" had arrived yet. The trains were late arriving in Barrow, and the Yard Master was tearing out what little of his hair remained.
Noon arrived, and so did Edward, bringing a train of ballast wagons from Arlesburgh. "Oliver failed." He gasped, not having been remotely ready for a cross-island jaunt on a heavy train. "So this missed Bear's goods and- oh, hello Bear."
Bear grimaced. "There hasn't been a goods train yet - I'm still waiting on my special."
"Oh." Edward paled. "Well that would explain why BoCo was so frantic."
Bear and Delta winced. If a freight train was canceled it was usually folded into the next pick-up goods; BoCo was probably having to flat-shunt a quarter mile long train at each station, the poor engine.
After having a drink, Edward was drafted into helping out in the yard, and was soon sorting out the mess, although he did leave the 08 in the yards until last - the third class coaches had some choice words for him, and they were not brief!
At this point, BoCo finally arrived, or rather, his train did - Toad the brakevan was on the leading end, while a plume of steam wafted into the air from near the back.
"Mister BoCo had engine troubles." Toad explained. "So we left him at the works and Mister Henry had to push. His passengers aren’t pleased about that!"
They weren't. As Edward and the 08 sorted the massive train, the passengers swarmed out of the coaches, unsure of who to be upset at but hopping mad nonetheless.
"We've surely missed our connection!" They shouted at the stationmaster, who wrung his hands before telling them that the connection hadn't even arrived yet!
"There’s been a signal failure further up the line, " he said nervously. "So no train has been able to get through."
Strangely, this didn’t make the passengers any calmer, and Henry was forced to retreat to the sheds to escape their ire.
"Well, I suppose that this day can only get worse..." he muttered darkly as he looked out onto the empty BR line leading inland.
"What makes you say that?" Delta asked, not particularly upset that her "special" was late.
"The concert will be delayed!" Henry cried. "And I was rather looking forward to it - it isn't every day that you get to be tour support for Led Zeppelin!"
"What?" Bear was shocked. "Led Zeppelin is coming to Sodor?"
"Yes," Henry explained. "They're going to the Suddery fairgrounds. They did a show in Germany a few days ago, and they're coming here by train. I’m taking them."
"Really? The Suddery fairgrounds?" Edward asked as he shunted the last of the coaches into place. "But there's barely a gazebo there. How will they perform? It's all muddy!"
"I don't know how they plan on doing it, but my driver is certainly quite eager." Henry looked over at his driver, who was wearing an old band t-shirt over his normal work clothes.
"Make fun all you want, but I will get an autograph!" He yelled at Henry, who rolled his eyes.
"He's been like that all day."
---------
Several hours later, and the special trains still hadn't made an appearance. The stationmaster had attempted to quell the now-riotous passengers by showing a list of delayed trains to them, which did nothing but scare away Edward, who took one look at the large list of delayed goods trains and realized that the lazy 08 would try and make him shunt all of them. When nobody was looking, his crew connected him to an empty stock train and left for Peel Godred, leaving the 08 to have to work for a change.
And not a moment too soon. Edward has just barely disappeared into the distance when the BR home signal dropped, and a pair of furious Class 37s roared into the yard. Too angry for words or help, they banged and slammed their train into a siding by themselves, growled at the 08 as he brought their next train up, and seethed into the distance as fast as their wheels would carry them.
"That was ominous..." Henry said as the home signal dropped again to allow the next train into the yard.
It was... For the next 45 minutes, the yard was practically besieged by train after angry BR train - some over 4 hours late - who raced into the yard, dropped their wagons or disembarked their passengers, picked up new ones, and raced away again. The poor 08 was losing his mind as goods wagons built up around him. The three Sudrians couldn't even help - their shed was on the opposite side of the main line from the yard, and there was no time in between trains for them to wade into the fray and assist. Eventually, as a harried looking DMU rattled across the bridge to Sodor on a through train to Norramby, Bear and Delta were allowed across the main line to pick up their specials from the yard.
Bear had been given a short line of funny-looking vans, while Delta had a longer string of flatcars carrying lumpy shapes covered in tarpaulins.
Problems emerged before they were even coupled up.
"These hoses don't fit." Said one of the men as he tried to connect the brake pipes on Bear's wagons.
Several more attempts were made before the problem was found: the vans were from Germany, and used air brakes, while the two diesels used British vacuum brakes. Neither system was compatible with the other, which meant that this train would have to go without brakes.
An inspection of Delta's wagons revealed that they were also German, and had similar brake lines.
-
"How are there two separate trains from Germany?" Delta asked. "Why didn't they keep them together when they got off the ferry?"
"Ve took two different ferries." Snapped the lead flatcar. "Und ve vere suppozed to be hier three hourz ago!"
-
Hauling an unbraked train was not a huge issue - it merely required more care and a brake van - but a much bigger issue arose when a search for brake vans found only Toad.
"Well that’s torn it," Bear said. "We can't share a brakevan unless we double head our train, and I don’t know where we're even going with these."
"Actually, Mister Bear," Toad interjected as the yardmaster frantically flipped through his train orders to see if the situation could be salvaged. "If you are double-heading two normal length trains, you would need two brake vans then, to counter-act the increased weight. Standard practices." He paused to inspect the train.
"And that's enough wagons that I would recommend a second van and a second engine in the name of safety."
The yardmaster cursed and threw his clipboard to the ground - all of these special trains were going to the same station and he still didn’t have enough vans!?
"Toad, does it have to be brakevans?" Henry called from the platform. His special train had arrived on the back of the most recent passenger train, and unlike the other specials, it was fully braked. "Could we just put it on the back of my train?"
Toad inspected the train - three Pullman carriages and a baggage car. "It's very unusual Mister Henry, but it should just work!"
-
The unusual cavalcade was quickly assembled - Henry and his coaches, then Bear, his wagons, Delta's wagons, Delta herself, and then Toad. This ensured that the unbraked wagons wouldn't slam together and cause trouble, while also providing enough braking power for the entire train.
The unusual makeup of the train attracted the attention of its passengers as well, and the members of Led Zeppelin came out to look at what was going on.
"You know that Rod is going to lose it when he hears about this?" One of them remarked.
"Oh yeah he will. That paint's not prototypical, oh no!" Another man with long blond hair said mockingly as he snapped pictures of Delta and Toad.
"Hey!" Said Delta. "My paint looks amazing!"
The rocker held his hands up. "I mean no disrespect, it's just that one of our friends is into really accurate model trains, and he's going to flip when he sees these pictures!"
"Oh," Delta blushed a little. "Well make sure to get my good side, which is all of my sides!"
The man laughed as he went down the platform to get more pictures.
"Excuse me, Mister Plant?" Toad asked as he came near. "Will you be performing Stairway at tonight's show?"
Robert Plant blinked. "Why yes we are! Are you a fan?" He asked the brake van.
"A little bit sir."
"Well I'll be! We have fans everywhere!"
---
Eventually, the strange train rumbled out of Barrow yard and across the bridge into Sodor.
It was slow going - they were using the path cleared for Henry's train, and it had been timetabled for a much faster speed than the unbraked wagons were allowed to travel at.
By the time they had arrived at Kildane, they were running quite behind even the most generous schedule, and had to wait for other trains to pass.
The electric branch had just received new electric locomotives, but they were nowhere to be seen. Edward was there however, sitting in the yard with a dazed look on his face.
"They're very chatty." He said, sounding quite overwhelmed.
After waiting at the station for about ten minutes, the station master came out and spoke to Henry's driver.
"We need this train taken to Suddery." he said, pointing to a line of ten wagons loaded with aluminum.
"You do know this is a special, right?" Henry’s driver protested. "We can't stop to pick up more cars at every station! Have Edward do it!"
"He can't. Whatever foul-up the mainland is doing has thrown off the schedule for the entire region. There isn't another path until nightfall.” He paused. “You'd probably need to take Edward with you as well, considering that he needs to be in Wellsworth by four."
The stationmaster had phrased this like a request, but it was actually a demand, and so the unusual train got even longer, with Edward and the (thankfully braked) wagons now in front of Henry. On the platform, the members of Led Zeppelin were taking a huge number of photographs, and one - Henry thought his driver had said his name was Jimmy - was at a payphone on the platform, describing the train to a friend. From the sounds of it, the friend was very displeased at the amount of work it would take to recreate this scene on his model railway.
-
After leaving Kildane, there were mercifully no more stops until Wellsworth, where Edward was uncoupled from the train.
Henry quickly realized that there was a problem as he tried to move the train out of the yard. "I can't see anything!" He called back to his driver.
It was true. The wagons stretched so far in front of Henry that it made seeing the rails ahead almost impossible.
Considering that all the aluminum wagons and the Pullman coaches were vacuum braked, it was decided to uncouple Henry and put him in front of the wagons.
This plan was working well, until:
"The coupling is stuck!" Shouted Sean the driver from between Henry and the lead coach.
The coupling links had jammed together at some point, and it would take heavy tools to separate them - heavy tools that weren't on hand, and more importantly, would have broken the links on the chain, meaning that they wouldn’t be able to couple the train back up again!
To make matters worse, neither of the diesels could be attached, as the station at Wellsworth had a single track leading onto the branch from the main line, with the yard beyond it. There was no way for either diesel to reach the front of the train.
Henry, having accepted that this day was going to be one of the longest ones in his life, sighed. "Am I just going to have to go very slow then? Will Led Zeppelin still be popular by the time we get to Suddery?"
"Very funny." His driver said as he tried to think of another way. "We can't even do that - we'd end up delaying Edward's commuter train, and that's about the only thing that hasn't been late tod-"
He was cut off as James clattered into the yard tender-first. "Those menaces at the docks blocked the turntable!" He growled as he was uncoupled from a rake of China Clay wagons, leaving little doubt as to the identity of the menaces.
"Good to see you too James." Henry chuckled at his friend's distress.
"Gah! Henry? What are you doing here!" James yelped. He hadn’t seen Henry.
"Oh you know, just being incredibly late."
"Well don't let me stop you, Old Square Wheels."
"Oh you won't be a bother," Henry said as an idea flew into his smokebox. "Actually, you might be able to help us..."
-
James had no idea who Led Zeppelin was, and quite frankly didn't care, but once Delta shouted at him to show a wheel, he quickly agreed to pilot the train, and they were soon underway.
Suddery fairgrounds had its own sidings and platforms, used for when the annual livestock show takes place, and the train was unloaded in short order. James quickly shunted the aluminum wagons to the goods depot, and then he, Toad and the other engines watched as the lumps under the tarpaulins were revealed to be parts of a massive stage that was rapidly assembled by men who came pouring out of the coaches. Then massive speakers were pulled out of the enclosed wagons, while a number of wheeled cases were removed from the baggage car.
The band, feeling somewhat superfluous, waited near the engines. Bear and Henry felt bad that they weren't bigger Led Zeppelin fans, but were comforted in the fact that they at least knew something about the band, unlike some engines they knew.
Toad, meanwhile, had proved that he was a blatant liar - there was nothing 'little' about his fan status, and he knew more about some songs than the band themselves!
-
Eventually, the stage was built, and the band retreated from the platform to go do a sound test.
The stage was quite close to the platforms, and nobody had been allowed into the venue yet, meaning that:
"Do you lot have any requests?" Shouted Robert Plant over the speaker system.
"IMMIGRANT SONG!" Toad roared before any of the engines could even open their mouths.
Tumblr media
-
Night fell over the fairground, and Bear was thankful that none of them were needed for other duties - the fairground was charged with an almost electric atmosphere, and it felt like something special was going to happen.
He looked to Henry at his right, and James and Delta at his left, and realized something else.
"I think," He said slowly. "That this is technically our first date."
"You're right." Henry said with shock. "It's taken us three years, but you're right."
"And ours too..." said Delta quietly. "Jamie, isn't that great? We managed to go on a date!"
James blinked slowly. "Yes we did. And it's a double date at that. By accident no less. We certainly don't do things by half measures!"
He grinned. "If this concert is half as good as that last song, it might be the best first date ever."
"Oh it will be Mister James!" Shouted Toad, who was choosing to ignore whatever the engines were talking about in favor of watching the band tune their instruments.
-
The concert began shortly after 9:30, only slightly behind its posted start time.
The band came out to thunderous applause, and Jimmy Page made the introductions to the audience.
"I just want to thank you all for coming out here tonight - back in 1972, we said that we'd come out here and do a show during our last tour of the United Kingdom, but things happened, and we never made it out here. We said we'd come back, and we never go back on our promises! Even if it takes eight years!"
He paused as the audience applauded once again. "And I also want to give a special thanks to some of our audience tonight. We almost didn't make it here tonight because of some trouble with the train, but those engines back there," he pointed to Henry, Bear, Delta, and James. "Worked like mad to get us here safely and on time, so this first song is dedicated to you!"
The band immediately began playing a hard and heavy rock song. It was an incredibly powerful piece, and the engines looked at each other with glee - this was going to be a hell of a night.
-
Later
As Since I've Been Loving You echoed over the fairgrounds, James quietly whispered to Bear.
"Is this what it feels like for you?"
Bear looked over at James. Even while he directly speaking to another engine, his eyes were glued to Delta, who was enraptured by the music.
"Yes." Bear whispered back. He knew what James meant.
-
The end of the concert was approaching - or so the engines hoped, considering it was almost midnight. Kashmir had taken quite a long time, and while Toad may have been having the time of his life, the engines were feeling the late hour a bit more.
"And this song I want to dedicate - dedicate to a little brake van out there in the train yard," Robert Plant said into the microphone. "Cause he asked for it by name, which means that we've officially got fans everywhere!"
A very recognizable guitar riff began while Toad squeaked in delight.
Henry and Bear looked at each other, and then looked over at James and Delta.  The night could go on for a little bit longer - it wasn’t often you got to see someone hear Stairway to Heaven for the first time.

Someone Like Me
summary : first, once again, i suck at summaries. Kaz meets a friend of Nina’s that he didn’t know about who is more like him than anyone else he’s ever met and that scares him more than he’d like.
It's a relaxing evening at the slat, or at least as much as it can be in Ketterdam. All the crows were sitting around a table talking and having a great night, even Kaz. He won't show it but he enjoys nights like this more than he'd like to admit. Nina and Jesper were laughing and talking about who knows what while Matthais sat with a loving smile on his face, Wylan and Inej sat talking about his newest tests, and Kaz sat just listening and watching, enjoying the time with his friends; his family. "Oh, Kaz! My friend is supposed to stop by tonight and drop off some things I asked her for so don't be surprised if we get a knock soon." Nina mentions. "You have friends?" He sarcastically said. "For a matter of fact, I do. She's amazing, I think you should meet her. She'd be a great addition to the crows. She's a fabrickator, both a Durast and an Alkemi. She is also the smartest person I've ever met, and the best fighter too. I've watched her and Matthais spar and she took him down in seconds easily. She's insanely good, Kaz. She'd be a great asset to the team. I think you'd like her too, she has similar interests among other stuff." She explains. Kaz thought for a moment before responding. "We'll see if I agree with you once I meet her." Nina thanks him with a smile and goes back to her conversation.
Kaz wasn't sure how he felt about the thought of bringing someone else onto the team. It was another person who could betray him, another person he could get attached to, another weakness. Not just anyone can join the crows, they had to earn it.
About half an hour later there was a knock at the slat door. Nina excitedly hopped up to get it. "It's her!" The heartrender almost squealed. The door opened to a girl, probably about 5'6 who has (H/L), (H/C) hair. She was gorgeous with a button nose that supported her thin-rimmed glasses, full lips, striking (E/C) eyes, and a curvy figure. She was wearing a tight green turtle neck, black pants, boots, and carrying a satchel on her shoulder. Kaz swears he almost felt himself stop breathing. The feeling he got when he saw her, despite not knowing her, scared him in a way he didn't like. He decided to push it down and continue on with the night.
Nina invited the girl inside with a smile that was returned by her. The girls walked back to the table where the rest of the group sat. "Y/N, the crows, the crows, Y/N." She introduced them all. Multiple greetings were heard around the table from everyone except Kaz of course. Y/N shyly waved with a soft smile. "I brought those things you asked about," Y/N said quickly changing the subject. She opened her bag and pulled out 3 boxes and set them on the table. She opened the first one which held a seemingly normal knife. "Here's the knife you asked about with the poison injection abilities. There are three vials in the box and there's one in the handle already. It injects a few drops upon impact, it’s potent so it will kill someone with just a few drops." Y/N said showing how to open the handle and where the vial was. She proceeded to open the next box that was full of bullets. "These are the bullets that explode upon impact you asked about." She said before setting them back down. You could see Inej eyeing up the knife and Jesper doing the same to the bullets. She finally opened the last box which revealed 7 sets of earpieces. "These are the earpieces, they have microphones in them to communicate from long distances." She almost mumbled, obviously nervous around all the people. Kaz had been watching the girl in shock the whole time she spoke. Nina didn't lie, she was insanely talented and would be a good asset.
"You're the best Y/N!" Nina exclaimed, making a quick movement to go to hug the girl. She quickly stopped when Y/N flinched slightly. No one else besides Y/N, Nina, and Kaz had realized it with everyone else too busy looking at the new gear. "Shit, fuck I'm sorry Y/N it was a mistake." Nina started apologizing profusely. "Nina, it's fine. Mistakes happen. I'm just a freak anyway." She said quietly. Kaz felt his heart clench at that. She was like him, she was anything but a freak though. "Anyway, I should probably get going." She said, staring at her feet. "You should stay for a while, meet everyone." Nina tried to convince her. Y/N was obviously apprehensive. "You should stay," Kaz said before he could stop himself. Both Nina and Y/N turned towards him quickly. Nina had a shocked look on her face, surprised that Dirtyhands would ever suggest that he wanted someone to stay. She thought for a second and smiled slightly and nodded.
The girl sat down at the last empty chair at the table, which happened to be next to Kaz. She immediately pulled into herself out of habit, bringing on her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around it, making herself as small as possible. Jesper and Inej immediately started asking questions about their new tools to which Y/N answered gladly. Kaz watched them contently, especially Y/N. She looked really happy talking about what she loved. Soon the conversations turned away from solely her after the crows had their fill of integrating. "Kaz, Y/N is the most knowledgeable person I've met about books, you guys have that in common," Nina mentions. Y/N glances at him with a soft smile. Everything about her made Kaz's fight or flight kick in. She was weirdly comforting but at the same time kicked on every instinct he had. He felt the need to run but also never move again. "What's your favorite genre of books?" Y/N asked the boy. Kaz missed having someone to talk to about interests like this, the rest of the crows weren't into things like this. Trying to make him comfortable she answers first. "I tend to read realistic fiction or fantasy." Kaz studied her face constantly looking for any signs that she wasn't genuine. "I like fantasy or mystery books." He answers. She gets a huge smile. He liked that, she had a genuine smile, that's rare in the barrel. Her smile was slightly lopsided and full of joy. "Mysteries are the best, I'm always on the edge of my seat. Sometimes I feel like I can't put the book down even when I have stuff to get done." She laughs. Kaz almost felt himself smirk. "Those are the best ones." He answers genuinely. "I just finished this amazing book, it's about the story of Achilles but from the point of view of Patroclus. It's called the song of Achilles and it's amazing." She says with a smile. "I'll have to borrow it sometime." He says. At that moment the two of them weren't even paying attention to the crows around them anymore, so they didn't see the knowing look from Nina.
The group all continued to talk and have a good time. Everyone liked Y/N a lot. Nina was accurate in her description of her. She was super smart and sweet. At one point they were talking about combat strategies and she was asked "What's the quickest way to win a fight?" by Jesper. Matthias let out a loud snort at that question, knowing the brunette's skills. "Are we talking immobilizing or killing? Those are two different answers." She says with a smirk. The girl had come out of her shell within the past hour and had grown more comfortable around the group. "Both?" Jesper said, confused. "For immobilization, the quickest way is to slice their Achilles tendon on the back of their ankle, if you do that they're not moving. Also, you always go for the eyes, nose, and groin, and if you use the bottom of the palm of your hand you can shatter someone's nose since that's the strongest part of your hand. Besides the Achilles tendon, the other easiest way if you know how to do it is there's a nerve on the side of your neck that if you squeeze right, knocks them out. Then if the purpose is killing you go for the neck, wrist, or thigh because that's where your main arteries are." She said matter of factly. Kaz almost laughed at how the girl said it.
That was the start of it all. Shortly after this first meeting Y/N started coming around more and more and everyone loved her, including Kaz. Kaz had started having more than friendly feelings towards her a couple months after meeting. The crows were eventually able to convince her to join so she was now living at the slat, making Kaz’s life a living hell. He felt like his heart was beating out of his chest constantly, and he knew that Nina knew this too with her heartrender skills. Nina was constantly giving him knowing looks and all he did was glare back at her. Kaz was drawn to her like no one else.
The two of them had become close over the last year, closer than most. They would often sit and talk for hours, a lot of times about books or anything else that came to their minds. Y/N was often like lightning in a bottle, constantly moving and going a million miles an hour. She seemed hyper and impulsive on the outside but Kaz knew she was very strategic and methodical. She was insanely smart, which she often used to her advantage to beat Kaz in chess to his dismay. Both parties had developed feelings for each other but both were too scared to tell the other because they’re idiots but the universe was going to find a way to get them together.
The heist the crows had tonight was insanely important. The group was supposed to go to a merchant party because while the merchant and everyone else was distracted they were going to steal a necklace that was held in the wife’s vanity room. The necklace was worth an insane amount of money so the crows took the task right away.
The only problem with the heist was that Y/N and Kaz had to be the two who had to fake being a couple at the party to keep the merchant distracted so the others could get the necklace. “We have to do what?” Y/N exclaimed when she found out her role. She felt her chest clench at the thought of being around that many people. “I need Inej on the roofs, Jesper on the ground as backup, Wylan as a waiter ready to cause a distraction if need be, and Nina and Mattaius getting the necklace so we’re the only two left.” Kaz grumbles, obviously not happy about the situation either. Both of them sucked it up for the money.
The night of the heist Y/N was the last to be ready since she had to wear a dress and makeup. She stepped down the stairs to where the crows were waiting. As soon as she stepped into the room there were joking whistles and screams from all the crows except Kaz. Kaz stood there in shock, his breath taken away. Emma was wearing a black dress with stars on it, a simple pair of black heels, several pieces of silver moon and star jewelry and finally topping it off with a few moon and star hair pins pinning back some of her hair. She looked gorgeous.
As they got closer and closer to the party both Y/N and Kaz became increasingly more nervous. “We don’t have to touch.” She says breaking the silence between them as they were dragging behind the group. “We have to and we both know it. If we don’t touch like a couple they’ll become suspicious. I know neither of us like touch but we’ll have to deal with it.” Kaz quickly responds, his voice rigid. She just nodded, not wanting to make this night worse.
Everyone got in their positions as soon as they made it to the house, leaving Kaz and Y/N near the entrance. Kaz hesitantly grabs her hand; he was shocked when he did. He didn’t panic as much as he thought. Kaz’s aversion was worse than Y/N’s for sure since hers was mainly quick movements and things related to abuse but Kaz’s was any kind of touch. All he felt was Jordie when he touched anyone, the stench of the air, the cold water around him, the stiff body he was clenching on to. He didn’t immediately drown touching her though, he felt the waters come up but they stopped, going no further.
As the two of them continued through the night the touches became easier and more frequent, it almost felt...real. Both of them deep inside wished it was. They wished the other loved them back. The two of them got many compliments throughout the night on how cute they were and questions about how they met among other things. The way Kaz would wrap his arm around her waist made her heart stop, the way Y/N put her hand on his shoulder and smiled at him did the same to Kaz.
Once Nina and Mattaius got the necklace everyone made their way back to the slat. Everyone was happy and ready to celebrate a successful heist except for Kaz and Y/N. They had a tension that wouldn’t go away. Both knew they’d have to talk about it or it’d ruin further heists but neither wanted to make the first move. So once they got to the slat both of them lingered at the door after everyone else. “Can-” “We should-” they both went to say at the same time. They couldn’t help but laugh at how in tune they were. “We need to talk about things.” Y/N says. “I know.” Kaz says, anxiety in his voice. “I like you Kaz.” the girl states plainly, shocking the bastard of the barrel. He couldn’t say the words he wanted to but he had to say something. “Yes.” was all he could manage out. It would sound stupid to anyone else but to Y/N and Kaz they both knew what that meant. “I can never touch you like you might want though.” He says anxiously. “Kaz, I have just as much of an issue with touch as you. Physical affection isn’t something I need in a relationship. If we really want to, we can work on our aversions together.” She answers with a comforting smile. Kaz nods, knowing she's right. “So together?” Kaz questions, trying to confirm that she is his and he is hers. She nods with a smile.
That was the start of it all. The start of the King and Queen of Ketterdam, taking it over together.
