RANT INCOMING JUST DUMPING IN SOME OC LORE

the lore behind helen & acacia is that they’re essentially the very first 'vampires' although its more complex than that, as they’re the first & supposedly only humans who got infected by a symbiotic anctartic rock (angel) when still alive, causing them both to be equally infected and ultimately sending acacia in a century long coma while helen milled on about.

i cant explain their whole individual journeys here, but tl;dr helen, unaware of what affected her, became obsessed with the imagery of angels, because when she first contracted a very special and infectious form of vampirism (so dangerous that even so as exchanging fluids like saliva or mucus can infect someone else fatally, in some extreme cases even breathing too close together in the same room can cause infection) she was basically too in a coma for a few months, under the influence of the anctartic rock that she'd come in contact with during her bedridden past life (she was the sickly sister).

these alien rocks are alive and organic and living but and their only way to latch onto other beings' consciousness and organism is through inhalation of fumes/powders. the rocks were brought back to their at-the-time (like roughly 18th century scotland here...?) mansion by their father who was an explorer who came across some of those geode specimens by pure luck. after doing a bit of research on them with some colleagues (he didnt catch sickness because the solid rocks themselves are not infectious) he believed that pulverizing the rock and burning it like incense would heal helen and ultimately their generational history of sickness, i could guess something like tubercolosis, but well.

It went QUITE BADLY!

anyway helen, before succumbing to illness, was an art student, specifically she created sculptures. during her comatose dreams she saw a lot of patterns and imagery that reminded her of marble, so in her New Life as a Vampire who's obsessed with reaching the angels she saw in her dreams, she infects people so that they can turn into crystal statues (vampirism at its fastest infection crystallizes+petrifies the infectee from the inside re: what happened to her right eye. she then uses those victims as literal starting bases for statues of her own creation. anyway sorry for the lore. ALSO THIS IS ALL PSEUDOSCIENTIFIC AND NOT MEANT TO BE ACCURATE TO A T TO HOW REAL ILLNESS AND INFECTION WORKS

Sooo, someone on Rewritten Belial wanted to know what I see wrong with mid fight masses. Boy, boy oh boy, where do I fucking start

ANIMATION

My god. My god the animation. The problem for the most part isn't the animation itself (except for the title screen, fuck that, it looks so weirdly floppy and stiff), it's the fact the animations aren't aligned properly. Take one good look at Sarv's sprites in the first 2 songs. Look how often her position shifts. There's seemingly no ground whatsoever for her, her feet get positioned up and down seemingly at random with the notes and it's REALLY frustrating. It isn't even bc of exaggerated poses, Week 4 shows that exaggerated poses can work while still making sense with where the floor is. Sarvente continues to be an offender in that regard with the fact the telephone animation looks EXTREMELY choppy and lacks a lot of inbetween frames, not to mention how stiff it feels.

Ruv is a lesser offender, the only thing that bothers me is how his feet curve down on his idle stance, because, again, That's Not How The Ground Works.

Selever. Dear god. His idle animation is so fucked. He goes 3 steps to the left by standing still. And this is purely an XML issue btw, bc there's a gif in the files with the animation in its raw state and it looks just fine

ART

THE BACKGROUNDS, DON'T GET ME STARTED. They're completely fucking lineless. That's NOT what you do with FNF. In FNF, lineless stuff is the environment, a car, the sun, a house, individual objects that are supposed to be in front or behind of one another are lined, always, and the mod NEVER does this, making everything blend in super hard.

Then there's a problem all the sprites share. They are by no means in FNF's style. FNF's art style consists of a lot of thick lines, big shapes, and a generally very street-like style. MFM does none of that. The lines are thin (with sarvente having completely lineless elements, which you should NEVER do for fnf character sprites unless it's pure black) and look very out of place when put next to every other character. Ruv is, again, the lesser offender, although he's definitely still one.

THE CHARTING

Hell. Hell. HELL. SO MANY NOTES THAT AREN'T EVEN IN THE SONG ITSELF, SUCH AN ABSURD OVERUSE OF TRIPLES AND DOUBLES, because god forbid the player actually has fun doing patterns for fast songs, right?! Gospel is safe in this regard, meanwhile Zavodila. Why. Zavodila could have been perfectly fun and difficult without them. Why did you do this. They're not inherently wrong, you just need to implement them really well and chief this ain't it. Jacks and multis aren't to be abused, ever. Patterns are best, always.

THE MUSIC

Subjectivity zone has been entered. Worship, Parish and Gospel are very subjective and down to taste, personally I ended up only liking Gospel out of the three even if I insist it should be a metal song bc demons are just like that.

Now Zavodila I have an objective complaint about, AND IT'S THE BEST SONG IN THE MOD. This isn't too much about the song on its own, but as an FNF song. Listen to it. Listen to it and tell me Ruv's voice sounds like a voice at all. No. It's just hard bass without a smidge of voice on it. If it was a voice with a filter on it that made it kinda sound like hard bass, fine, Whitty is good for that reason, it's a voice with a filter that makes it sound SIMILAR to an instrument. But when it's JUST an instrument, you've gone overboard. Idk what Selever's song is called but it has the exact same issue.

THE WRITING

ULTIMATE SUBJECTIVITY ZONE ENTERED. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION.

The writing is very lackluster. Everything just kinda happens for the sake of it, there's no background motivator or thing that got BF and GF there against their own will, it just kinda. Happens. And the reveal for Sarv's demon form is VERY lackluster, she just goes "lemme show u a secret actually" and transforms for no reason other than an excuse for a harder song. And to be blatant hornybait btw, I saw the namefiles, this demon form was designed with pure libido and no brain processes. Either way; everything just kinda happens for no reason here. It's not good. It's. Very, very bad.

And then you get into the background lore and it all gets so goddamn confusing because Dokki literally dug up OCs from when she was a kid and tried to bullshit up some backstory for them and it all crashed horribly. Every little fact is thrown in just because, like. She's lucifer but also didn't want to become lucifer and did so on accident?? How? It's never elaborated on? And WHY would she help God, who she hates, to bring people to heaven, what kinda consequence is there to not doing it, why is she being told to do this, and yet she's apparently NOT an actual nun and is just wearing a costume. What the hell is going on there. It's a mess. And Ruv. What's going on with Ruv I actually don't know I just know apparently he has dead nerves that make him unable to smile (which btw THAT'S NOT HOW NERVES WORK THEY'RE SPREAD ACROSS THE BODY AND ARE VERY, VERY LONG, THEY'RE NOT DIRECTLY CONDENSED INTO ANY SPOT AND THEN THEY JUST STOP THEY'RE INTERCONNECTED) and that he "kills for a sense of justice and ends up becoming an antagonist because of it"?? It's all so confusing and it makes 0 sense. They should have been remade from the ground up instead of having been picked up and thrown a buncha shit onto. You don't pick up a rotten piece of meat, slap a buncha sauces on top of it and make it taste good. It's still old, rotten meat, and you should just get fresh meat instead. Same type, new start. Remake, don't rehash.

CONCLUSION

In my sincere opinion? This mod had a TON of potential. You could have done a lot more under more capable hands. On every single end. Writing, charting, art, music to a lesser degree, if it had been done by more capable and experienced people it could have been one of the best mods. But then it wasn't. And it got popular anyways. This. This all is why I'm reclaiming it. Because I see what could have been. How much you could have done with this mod. And I wanted to take a shot at the writing end of things, because that's what I'm most capable of, even if it isn't much. That's why I made Rewritten Belial. And why I hope I did a good job of making something worthwhile with these characters.

ALSO THE DEVS ARE SO ENTITLED HOOOOLY SHIT YOU LITERALLY CANNOT POST RECHARTS ON GAMEBANANA ANYMORE WITHOUT GETTING BANNED BC THEY GET MAD WHEN PEOPLE FIX THEIR HORRIBLE CHARTS. THEY NEVER, EVER ENCOURAGE FAN CONTENT THAT ISN'T SUCKING UP TO THEM AND JUST COPYPASTING WHAT'S ALREADY THERE WITH 0 MODIFICATIONS. MIKEGENO UR THE ONLY DECENT PERSON HERE BLESS YOU

1. what sociocultural factors of your own life do you think influenced your choice of character and how you play them?

[I’ve drawn from my own life in a lot of different ways, many pretty small, but probably the most defining one has been Eilidh’s relationship to herself as a woman, to other women, and to men. And those are all really complicated things, it’s not like I copypasted my perspectives or experiences onto Eilidh, it’s more like using Eilidh’s life to explore my experiences from a different angle. Toxic masculinity and harassment (and more) have been a factor in my life just as they have been in hers, albeit with different specific details, and there are long-lasting consequences of those things that complicate our relationships and self-image. I’ve gotten shit for writing her this way, but Eilidh has had experiences that have made her slow to forgive men who hurt her and slow to trust men whose anger frightens her. But I’ve also worked to show that NEITHER of those things–the men’s behavior or her mistrust–are inherent. They’re learned. Eilidh struggles with conflict, as much as she can sometimes be the cause of it, she doesn’t like not getting along with people, and she will push and make an effort to fix things if they start off on the wrong foot. And I’ve had great partners, especially @sniperares, @infamouscabalbrothers, and @intolerablexsacrifice who have helped me write antagonistic relationships for Eilidh where gender plays a role but there is no “bad guy.” Just people being people.

And as tough as it can sometimes be to write f/f interactions (because it’s hard for female muses to get traction in the community, and that’s especially the case with OCs, whom I have a strong preference for), Eilidh’s relationships with women are absolutely central to who she is. Her mom, Molly, Salma, Darcy, even muses she hasn’t interacted with quite as much yet, like Jane, and muses she doesn’t interact with anymore, they’ve all helped develop some aspect of who Eilidh is, and they tend to be the people with whom she feels the most effortlessly herself, which is something I take from my own life as well (although I very much love my guy friends ofc

5. do you think your chosen fc could play your character the way you write them? if not, what changes do you think would have to be made?

[Hard to say. She hasn’t been in a whole lot, and she’s been in a lot of frankly bad movies that make it hard to fairly judge her abilities. My inclination would be to say that acting-wise she’d be okay, as long as she can do the accent. The problem is that I picked her as my fc for her mannerisms and this like…inner light that she has sometimes, and this way of looking like she’s retreating into herself that I find really moving. I did not pick her for her body, which is much skinnier than I always picture Eilidh being, to a degree that I wouldn’t be okay with if I was trying to cast for the part.]

12. what is your character’s ideology? what beliefs and values are most important to them and how do they impact their decision making?

[This is a BIG question. I think I have to start with the fact that if we’re talking about Eilidh’s decision making, there’s a LOT of impulsiveness there, a lot of acting on emotions, and depending on how a choice is presented and how much time she has to make it, there’s a lot more instinct that ideology going on. That’s not to say that instincts can’t be ideological: Eilidh will usually lean toward saying yes rather than no, toward doing things together rather than alone, to doing new and challenging things rather than things she’s done before, and those things all reflect her values.

But there are times when her ideologies come into conflict when she’s making a decision, and that’s where shit gets interesting. Like the high value she places on family and being near the people she loves versus her intense desire to explore the world and meet new people. Or her desire for intimacy versus her love of freedom and aversion to monogamy (which is really also a conflict with social ideologies). It’s part of why she values trust and being understood so very much, because she knows her way of being leads to difficult choices, and if her friends trust and understand her, she can make those choices without causing too much pain.

Eilidh is also someone who has to let her emotions guide her, even when she’s taking time to make an important decision. If she’s asking a friend to be a sounding board, she’s probably going to yell and get upset and mostly talk to herself tbh, argue with herself about what she wants, and what she really needs is friends who can sit through that and recognize where her heart really is and help her see that, and then maybe help her with the practicalities. Like if her heart is saying “you have to go explore this place, take this job, be away from home,” she’ll struggle with how she can do that and still be there for the people she loves. She often wants to have opposing things and struggles with having to make zero sum decisions tbh but tends to need help finding options for compromise.]

Interview with my dwarf inquisitor boy!!! Sorry the spacing is awful, i kept hitting the character limit. I put it under a read more half way down so i dont bug people :)

"Rocky Cadash!"

- What's your real name?

"...Ser Inquisitor Cadash. Don't call me that."

- Do you know why you were called that?

"Because i jumped out of the fade and fought Corypheus and decided to lead an army yadda yadda. Anyone could do that shit with the right luck. I dont like to be considered better than anyone, so i like to just be called Rocky."

- Are you single or taken?

"Very happily taken by the one and only Iron Bull."

- Have any abilities or powers?

"Uhm, i can kind of control the door to the afterlife with my hand. So i'd say yeah. I can also fit into very tiny spaces, if needed."

- What's your eye color?

"Bluish green. Varric described them as 'soft like the smoothest river, yet fierce and wild like the harshest jungle' so if im being honest id prefer to call them that."

- How about your hair color?

"Don't tell anyone, but it's dark brown. Tadahn taught me how to make an alchemic mixture that turns it white. I kept it that way because i love how it looks, but now everyone thinks my white hair is part of the prophecy and a sign that i was chosen by Andraste, so i can't let the secret get out. I've really dug myself into a hole here."

- Stop being a Mary Sue.

"No. I don't know who that is, but she sounds lovely, and i'd be honored to take her visage."

- Have you any family members?

"Many, but none of them blood related. I grew up with four other misfits and we basically raised each other. They're my closest family. But i also have all of my companions and advisors. We're a family, even if some of them wouldn't like to admit it. Cassandra is the mom and Varric is the dad. Solas is the stern yet loving step father who makes a bunch of rules the kids don't like but he's TECHNICALLY their father now so they have to listen. And Cole? Cole is my son."

- What about pets?

"I have a pet nug i stole from some dead nobles house when we went to investigate. I couldn't just leave it in it's cage to die! His name is Barry, and he runs around my room freely. Love you, Barry."

- Tell me something you don't like.

"Honestly? My job. Wait, ok, i love leading, i love planning battles, i love strategizing and spending time consulting. I love all of it except the killing. If there was some way to experience the thrill of battle without taking a life, i'd do it. But i can't stand waking up every day knowing i'm going to get more blood on my sword."

- Do you have any hobbies/activities you like doing?

"Don't tell anyone, but i like to write songs. I play guitar in my room sometimes. I wrote a song for Bull, but I don't know how he'd feel about that lovey dovey bullshit. Oh HAHAHAHA BULLSHIT! Amazing! I've made my own day."

- Have you ever hurt someone?

"Wow way to bring me down off the high of my own joke. Unfortunately, yes. I don't know if you mean emotionally or physically, either way, it's still yes."

- Have you ever killed someone?

"...a lot. Too many to count. It's my job, after all. Storm the castle, find the hideout, kill the grunts. Occasionally i have a dramatic face off with someone higher on the food chain. There's so much death all the time. I like to think the main job of the inquisition is to fix that, to bring peace, but somehow the only way to do that is with more death. It doesn't make sense to me, but if it keeps people safe, sometimes you have to become what you hate. Greater good and all that."

- What kind of animal are you?

"UNDOUBTEDLY ONE OF THOSE GIANT FREAK OF NATURE NUGS THAT YOU CAN RIDE INTO BATTLE. THAT. FOREVER."

- Name your worst habits.

"I hide my real personality. See, when i first showed up, i obviously wasn't in the mood to crack jokes. But then everyone got it in their head that the Herald of Andraste is some stoic warrior sent by the Maker himself. It drives me crazy not being able to be myself, but i doubt Cullen would enjoy planning our next battle with me very much if i spilled my thoughts, which are usually an elaborate string of dick jokes. I also cry very easily, another thing i hide. I also hate myself, and think im not worthy of this job. I panic easily and half of the 'heroic' things i've done have been pure instinct. So i guess my worst habit is: i'm a mess."

- Do you look up to anyone at all?

"My best friend Samahl. He's been through so much, but always comes out the other side smiling. I've learned a lot from him."

- What's your sexuality?

"Diiiiiiiiiick."

- Do you go to school?

"HAH, LAUGHABLE. I was born and raised in Dust Town. I never even learned to read until i turned 14 and met Samahl. Thank Stone those elves love their books so much, otherwise i would have been helpless."

- Do you ever want to marry and have kids some day?

"If the Inquisition does what it's meant to do, yes and yes."

- Do you have any fans?

"...unfortunately."

- What are you most afraid of?

"Reaching a point where violence stops being a tool for the greater good and starts being something i enjoy. I don't want to hurt the people i love."

- What do you usually wear?

"Anything fancy or flowery. I even had custom armor made that looks like a noble's costume for a masquerade. I never got to experience things like that growing up, so i cherish any chance to wear something delicate or pretty. I insist all of my companions are dressed their best when they accompany me. Cole, Varric, and Dorian are the only ones who let me put flowers in their hair. I tried to glue some onto Solas once and i'm pretty sure he put a curse on me."

- Do you love someone?

"I love everyone as long as they're not trying to murder me."

- When was the last time you wet yourself?

"Laughing too hard at a dead darkspawn. It fell down some rocks and landed in a complete handstand. Absolutely stunning."

- What class are you? (High class, middle class, lower class)

"Is there something lower than lower class? Something like 'grew up in the basement of a brothel in Dust Town and didn't learn to wipe myself until i turned 10' class?"

- How many friends do you have?

"Uhm, let's see, Tadahn, Samahl, Varric, Blackwall, Ser Morris, Dagna, Quartermaster Threnn, Cullen, Josephine...uhh, let's just say 'a lot', because we could be here all day. I don't know if they consider me their friends, but i consider them mine."

- What are your thoughts on pie?

"I. Will. Eat. Anything."

- Favorite drink?

"...chocolate milk. Don't tell anyone you heard that."

- What's your favorite place?

"THE EMERALD GRAVES. It's so beautiful, i honestly wish i could live there! I get so awestruck seeing all the beautiful elven ruins, and oh my, those trees? Pure beauty. If the inquisition goes well, and i ever get to retire, i'm moving there in a little flower covered cottage. I don't care how much Bull complains, we're living that fairytale life, bitch."

"Big...for a dwarf. Do with that knowledge what you will."
