Names of my favorite Hetalia ships and characters in Japanese and Chinese

This morning, after a lot of effort, finally I was able to register a Weibo account :D That means now I can access many other Chinese social platforms like Lofter, Bilibili, Baidu, etc. This is something I've wanted to do for a long time because there are many talented Chinese artists, writers, video makers, etc who create a lot of fandom resources (I don't know about other countries but in my country, most of the high-quality fanworks and merch we get are from Japan or China). I went on several social networks and searched; the results made me extremely happy. Because in addition to amazing fanworks, I also saw some posts from Chinese fans that make me happy and a little surprised. For example, there was a post against the Estonia wanna-be Nordic joke or posts about historical knowledge about Estonia (Maybe I'll do more detailed posts later, maybe posts like “attitudes and impressions of some Asian fans about Estonia”). To find such resources, you need to know those names to use as tags to search, so I'm going to list some of my favorite couples/ships’ and characters’ names. Also, to me, the couple's names sound very cute and meaningful in Japanese and Chinese so I usually add the Japanese names along with normal couple names when I make posts about my OTP or biases :3 These names also show how fans see the relationship between a certain couple: what do they have in common? What represents them? What connects them, etc. This is a very useful document for me because if I don't make this post as a preperation before searching, I have to retype all the names myself. This is very troublesome for someone who uses the Latin alphabet like me.

This post is more like a personal note lol.

A. Ships’ and characters’ names in Japanese and Chinese

I. My OTP’s/ships’ presentive name/nickname in Japanese/Chinese

1. DenEst (Denmark/Estonia)

- Japanese: 青狮子组 (Aojishigumi) / Chinese: 青狮子组

- Meaning: Blue Lion couple

2. HongTai (HongKong/Taiwan)

- Japanese: 香る梅 (Kaoru ume) /Chinese: 香梅

- Meaning: Fragrant plum flower couple

3. NorIce (Norway/Iceland)

- Japanese: 鯨組 (Kujiragumi) / Chinese: 鯨組

- Meaning: Whale couple

4. NethBel (Netherlands/Belgium – my mind tells me they are not siblings, same with NorIce)

- Japanese: チューリップ兄妹 (Chu-rippukeimai) / Chinese: 郁金香兄弟姐妹

- Meaning: Tulip couple/siblings

5. AusHun (Austria/Hungary)

- Japanese: ロデエリ (Rodeeri) or ほんわか夫婦 (Honwaka couple) / Chinese: 中欧夫妇

- Meaning: Central European couple

1. PruHun (Prussia and Hungary)

- Japanese: ぴよ花 (Piyohana) / Chinese: 啾花组

- Meaning: Chirp flower couple

- Japanese: 友情記念日 (Yūjō kinenbi) / Chinese: 友情纪念日

- Meaning: Friendship Anniversary/Memorial Day couple (Yesss this name is perfect for this brOTP of mine)

3. FinEst (Finland and Estonia)

- Japanese: ウラル組 (Urarugumi) / Chinese: 乌拉尔组

- Meaning: Ural Couple

4. AmeEst (America and Estonia)

- Japanese: ITコンビ (aithi-konnbi) /Chinese: IT组

- Meaning: IT couple

5. UsUK

- Japanese: 味覚音痴コンビ (Deaf taste combination haha) or アルアサ (AruAsa) / Chinese: 味音痴组 or 米英/英米 (UsUK/UKUs)

- Meaning: Both literally means Deaf taste couple or couple that has no sense of taste lol

6. FrUk

- Japanese: フラアサ (FraAsa) or ナイスドーヴァー (Naisudōvu~ā - Nice Dover) / Chinese: dover组

- Meaning: Dover couple

7. AmeCan

- Japanese: 北米兄弟 (Hokubei kyodai) / Chinese: 北美双子

- Meaning: North American Brothers

8. AmeJap

- Japanese: デコボコンビ (Dekobokonbi) / Chinese: 凸凹组

- Meaning: Uneven/decombo combination

1. Estonia (country name): Japanese: エストニア (Esutonia) / Chinese: 爱沙尼亚 (Aishaniya) (the first letter in Estonia’s Chinese name reads “Ai” means love, affection, feelings. I think it’s cute :3)

- Eduard von Bock (hnnn this name makes me cringe but anyway): Japanese: エドァルド・フォンヴォック (Edoarudo fon Bokku) / Chinese: 爱德华·冯·波克 (Àidéhuá·féng·bō kè)

2. Hungary: Japanese: ハンガリー (Hangari) / Chinese: 匈牙利

- Elizabeta Héderváry (another name makes me uncomfortable, but I have to follow the original tag I guess): Japanese: エリザベータ・ヘーデルヴァーリ/ Chinese: 伊丽莎白·海德薇莉

3. Belgium: Japanese: ベルギー (Berugi - real country name) and ベルベル (Pixiv tag name) / Chinese: 比利时

- Doesn’t have human name yet

4. America: Japanese: アメリカ (Amerika) / Chinese: 美国

- Alfred F. Jones: Japanese: アルフレッド・F・ジョーンズ (arufureddoefujo-nnzu) / Chinese: 阿尔弗雷德·F·琼斯

1. Finland/Estonia/Hungary:

- Japanese: ウラルトリオ (Urarutorio) / Chinese: 乌拉尔三人组

- Meaning: Uralic trio

2. Austria/Hungary/Prussia

- Japanese: フライパングル (Furaipannguru) / Chinese: 铁三角

- Meaning: Iron Triangle Trio in Chinese and Frying pangle in Japanese

3. Belgium/Netherlands/Luxembourgh or Benelux

- Japanese: ネーデルトリオ (ne-derutorio) or you can use チューリップ兄. Since it literally means “Tulip siblings” sometimes it is used to address the Benelux siblings, but people usually use this name to refer NethBel / Chinese: not found yet

- Meaning: Neder Trio in Japanese

V. Finally, my nOTPs or nonCPs but I think their ship’s names are interesting or cute:

1. RusEst (Russia and Estonia)

- Japanese: ユキツバメ(Yukitsubame) / Chinese: 雪燕组

- Meaning: Snow Swallow couple

2. PruEst and GerEst (Prussia and Estonia, Germany and Estonia)

- Meaning: Cornflower Couple

3. SwissBel (Switzerland and Belgium)

- Meaning: Chocolate alliance/union

What I wish to see in Hetalia manga:

NB 8( Nordic+ Baltic 8). When Baltic nations regained independance in 1990s, Nordics helped the Baltic states a lot so we could join EU and NATO. I really can't wait to see Denmark and Lithuania's interaction since Lithuania's and Denmark's relations are very great and there is tons of history behind DenLiet, plus this won't be a crack ship anymore. Here is a link to Denmark-Lithuania relations(use google translate since this is in Lithuanian, but it has lot's of information behind it. I will create a post about it with academic info about it). Baltics and Sweden as well since Sweden is like one of main trading partners. Glad to see Finland interacting with Estonia, wish he could interact with other Baltics as well. Iceland interacting with Baltics would be great since Iceland is MVP for being 1st country to recognize independance of the Baltics. As for Himaruya, remember to drop Estonia's "I want to become Nordic" and "cross flag" stereotypes since this isn't funny and is very offensive to Estonians, who know history between other Baltics very well. Nordic and Cross flag stereotypes/jokes to Estonians are like what Wilno Nashe is to Lithuanians, very offensive.

Belarus being mad at Lithuania. Concidering what is happening IRL with these countries, I think Belarus would be toxic af towards Lith and blaming him over the stuff he didn't do. Regarding this, you can read articles on news since it's wide topic in Europe and Luka being crazy on national TV all the time. Maybe Belarus would be living in Russia's house since she "wants to marry" him desperately and she did by becoming sattelite IRL.

Visegrad group. It would be nice to see Poland, Hungary, Czech republic, Slovakia interacting with each other and solving issues.

The EU meeting. The moment when members of the EU come together to discuss EU issues.

America visiting the Baltic houses. This might do a lot of fan service to AmeLiet/AmeLat/AmeEst ships, but it would be nice to see how the Baltics are doing in America's eyes concidering Lithuania working in America's house during "Lithuania's Outsourcing" strip and "Storage cleaning" anime episode. It would be a nice homage to this as well. Maybe America's reaction to Russia's "unfriendly countries" list would be great to see as well. Since I am sure NATO Baltic Air Policing mission exists and America is one of countries who helps the other Baltics to patrol their Air space.

Ukraine and Georgia(Sakartvelo character introduction) and how they are doing.

Taiwan interacting with America, Germany, Japan and Lithuania. Concidering what is happening with Taiwan, I think Taiwan would be interacting a lot with these countries. I am honestly smiling that my country Lithuania decided to open representitive office with name "Taiwan" instead Taipei and seeing how Taiwanese people are thanking Lithuania for donating vacinnes, my heart just melted.

when I started shipping it if I did: Probably like...2013/2014, I think.

my thoughts: I think they'd work really well together, both as a couple, or even just close platonic friends. They are opposites, but their personalities aren't so polarizing that they'd clash too much. (Also, while probably everyone who follows me on here knows I headcanon Ed as ace, I headcanon Den as ace (and biromantic), too. [Though I go back and forth there; sometimes I also headcanon Den as just bisexual])

What makes me happy about them: They’re two of my favorite characters! Also I feel like they'd bring out the best in each other.

What makes me sad about them: It's such a rare pair! (Also, due to the nature of what Ed went through, I feel like it would take awhile for him to trust people again and open up to them, even his friends.)

things done in fanfic that annoys me: (I copied and pasted this from the EstIce one, but it's because I like how I worded it there, XD) I am so sick of the 'Eduard-the-wannabe-Nor.dic’ thing. I hate hate hate it, especially when I see it in fics. And ESPECIALLY when said fics either make Ed into a creepy stalker (umm, no? These are his friends, remember?? D:< ) or that the Nor.dics hate him/talk about him behind his back. This is the fastest way for me to backspace out of a fic featuring Eduard. -rant done-

things I look for in fanfic: Ed being close friends with the Nor.dics AND his fellow B.altics (NB8!), angst/hurt-comfort, Den being a lovable goofball (but also having a serious side, too; I like serious!Den a lot). Also ace!Eduard, though I'm not sure how popular that is.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For Eduard, other ships I like with him are: EstLiet, EstIce, FinEst, AmeEst, EstMona (does anyone else ship this? I barely see it around, and while it seems like a crackpair, I think their personalities work well), EstPol For Den, other ships I like with him: DenNor, DenFin, DenAme

My happily ever after for them: Basically Ivan leaving them both the alone, Eduard letting Den see his true self, Den realizing he's basically in love, etc.

who is the big spoon/little spoon: While I see Den liking this sort of cuddling, I don't see Eduard liking it much. (And if he does trust someone enough to sleep that close to them, I see him preferring they did so face to face. I feel like, due to the issues he has with trusting people, he would prefer to see their face/not have his back to them.) Though for this ask: big spoon: Den, little spoon: Eduard

what is their favorite non-romantic activity: Probably cycling, XD

okay so writing update, in the coming week(s) I should be finishing up three denest fics, one - or two, still undecided rn - estfin fic (my first ever time writing it romantically!!), one ameest fic, and two estliet fics! I also have one multichap fic in the writing process (a complete rewrite of my heta-charmed au!) and two other multichap fics in the planning process!

If you are still giving your thoughts about 'rare' Est ships: EstMona (though I feel like this is more for personality than shared history), SwissEst, AmeEst

These are definitely rare ships hahaa, I mean, most ships with Estonia can be regarded as rare, and when it comes to Estonia ships too they're rare even then.

EstMona is something I've occasionally seen around, suprising how it's managed to catch some people the way it has. There isn't historical info to be found besides one fun fact of a Estonian rally driver living there haha.

It's definitely more personality based, and yeah I can see some things working well, aesthetically it also looks like a very pleasing ship. Personally I feel like it won't be that much for me because in some areas they might be a bit too alike, lacking much striking contrast to be able to improve each other in a relationship. Though that's probably just me overthinking, I can def at least see them as making great friends!

OOO SwissEst! Interesting.

Fun fact: Kalev, Estonian's famous sweets and such company, was founded by Lorenz Caviezel who was Swiss! No wonder Estonia's chocolate is so good hah.

Never seen it before and it actually has my interest now, I can't immediately see the romantic potential but maybe I'd just need to dig more into Switzerland's character (more so the HC's people have added to enrichen his character) to see the potential. It would def be a very very slow burn that's for sure. Friends wise too may be a slow development but I can see em becoming close too!

AmeEst is something I've seen and talked to friends about before, it's definitely an intriguing ship but with so much potential, also with potential historical angst at some parts too!

America ships that need more love

Prumerica, AmeViet, RusAme, AmeTai (idk I feel like the characters could get along well), AmeLiet, Frus if you like, AmePol (I could imagine they would chill together), Romerica (because as if Romano would ever bottom come on guys he is too proud for that), AmeEst (because why not, they seem to get along just fine!), AmeChu, AmeriPan and so on. There is way more then just UsUk to choose from. Like holy hell you have so many options and decide on the same often OOC thing? Come on guys you are more creative then that.

when I started shipping it if I did: This is a pairing I started shipping more recently than others in this ask. I think it was like...back in 2014 that I started shipping these two, though I didn't really think about them much other than 'ooh, they'd be a nice ship'. However, a few months ago, I started thinking about them as a ship again, and I ended up having tons of headcanons for their friendship (and a potential eventual romance). Especially after reading the 'Ice's Birthday' comic again. (Like...Eduard...why did you wink at him?? XD.)

my thoughts: I honestly think they'd work well together (as either close platonic friends, or romantically). Both are older teens** (in human age, I mean) dealing with past trauma (though I need to research more about Ice's before I can write about his more accurately). Also, both their families/close friends are in the same friend group (hooray for the NB8!), so it's natural they'd interact. Also, and this is more of a headcanon, I see them both as ace, so they'd relate to each other about that, too.

What makes me happy about them: They're two of my favorite characters!

What makes me sad about them: I see them as people who keep their emotions, especially negative emotions, bottled up. (Until they finally hit their breaking point and everything spills out, and it's not pretty.) I do see Ice reaching the point of tears a bit easier than Eduard. (Since I see Eduard having the opinion that if he [Ed himself, I mean X'D] cries, especially around others, he's showing weakness, and, due to past trauma, he absolutely doesn't want to show any sign of weakness. So if Eduard does cry around someone, he A. trusts the person completely, or B. is dealing with something so horrible that he just can't hold the tears back.)

things done in fanfic that annoys me: -deep breath- I am so sick of the 'Eduard-the-wannabe-Nor.dic' thing. I hate hate hate it, especially when I see it in fics. And ESPECIALLY when said fics either make Ed into a creepy stalker (umm, no? These are his friends, remember?? D:< ) or that the Nor.dics hate him/talk about him behind his back. who is the big spoon/little spoon: I don't really see them cuddling like this, (esp. since I headcanon neither of them liking a lot of physical affection), but if they did: big spoon: Eduard, little spoon: Ice

what is their favorite non-romantic activity: sitting outside together, just silently enjoying nature. (And for something a little less old-man ish, I see them enjoying watching movies together, and both making snarky comments while watching like...a romcom Alfred recommended to them or something XD)

**I see many people aging the characters (esp. Ed) up, which is totally fine, and I definitely see why they do. However, I stick with the canon ages, and combine aspects of those human ages with a certain level of maturity, given the fact that they are immortal and centuries old. However, for characters whose human ages are sixteen and younger, such as Ice and especially Raivis, I tend to write their mentality skewing younger in general (though of course they have moments of maturity as well). Eduard is in a grey area, for me, because he’s caught between ‘teenager’ and ‘young adult’. Because of this, and due to his immortality, this is why I have no issue shipping him with Toris, Den, Alfred, or Fin, but I also ship him with Ice, too. (Though, the is why I really only ship Ed with Den and Fin in the canon nationverse. For human AUs, I lean towards him with Ice, Mo.naco, Toris, or Alfred, since their age gap is only one year (for Ice) and two years (for Toris and Alfred). Mo.naco wasn't given a human age, but I am assuming she's around 16-17 as well? Maybe 18?
