the familiar [part 3]: kinship
pairing: takaishida siblings (takari in the background) [part 1, part 2] [ao3, ffnet]
summary: yamato was always painfully aware of how different he and his brother were, until one night when he has to deal with him drunk.
note: almost forgot to post this here T____T this also isn't abandoned i just get distracted really easily
this is also one of my @campdigimonth goals. let's see if i could finish editing one last before the month ends >__< (the event was so helpful i still write a little everyday now T___T)
“You are fourteen. Where did you even get the alcohol?” Yamato yells as he drags his heavily drunken brother through the Ishida doorway.
“Maybe somebody’s cool brother,” Takeru taunts, sticking his tongue out.
After the gig, a few phone calls, and a heated series of texts, Yamato found his brother at one of the concert afterparties, thoroughly intoxicated and about to toss his shirt into an indoor pool for a cheering crowd of fellow high schoolers.
Yamato always questioned how he and Takeru could be related, because all things considered, they were so little alike. He realized this the moment he met him, wrapped in their mother’s arms and a baby blue blanket that matched his eyes. Their mother started to sing and their father gained a skip in his step. Takeru was their baby, their ‘little angel’ (while Yamato was always just ‘Yamato’.)
This is not to say that Takeru was an easy child — in fact, he cried all the time. But there was a sort of benediction about the boy that inspired one to believe that everything would be okay. One need simply send him the slightest hint of a smile, and in an instant, he would mirror the best of it back, the purest of all human grace reflected in his little eyes. (To this day Yamato would swear it was this quality of the boy that kept the family together for as long as they had been.)
They were so different that everyone was always surprised to learn that they were brothers. Yamato, so cool, so sharp, somehow from the same seed that blessed them with Takeru, the sweetheart, the charmer.
But it was better this way: that Takeru was not only so much different, but so much better than him. That the younger boy had inherited the best of both their parents — their mother’s heart, their father’s charm — while the older boy got everything else. It was well that Takeru inherited the softness of his mother’s eyes, and that they had not been hardened as his brother’s had been.
By choosing to live with their father,Yamato had spared his brother from witnessing the worst of the divorce: the chaos of an unkempt apartment, cold TV dinners purchased at the local kombini, and the long painful process of picking up the pieces of a broken man.
Instead the Takeru lived in sweet, suburban Setagaya.
Yamato had visited a few times, and though he loved time with his mother and brother — and they clearly loved having him too — the trips were always more painful than pleasant. The pristine apartment, the freshly pressed sheets, and the aroma of a home-cooked dinner filling each room — all things Yamato knew would haunt him when he went home.
And as painful as these always were, he was happy for his brother: so pleasantly provided for, so blissfully inexperienced in permanently losing the best parts of your life, and so protected from the harsh realities that had made Yamato who he is.
If for this reason the brothers might never truly look alike, Yamato could accept this.
Tumblr media
“Thanks so much Yamato,” rings Hikari’s voice on the other end of the line.
“Don’t mention it. I’ll leave the tickets at the door in your name,” Yamato replies. ”Just come early so the ushers could have enough time to process them.”
“Got it, Mr. Superstar!” (He is sure she picked this nickname up from Taichi, and swears to smack him for it the next time they meet.)
The rest of the band is returning from their quick break and setting up once again for the rehearsal. Yamato is about to bid the girl goodbye when she suddenly says, “Hey, Yamato…”
“Yeah Hikari-chan?”
Without a word, a question is raised and hung in the silence that fell. Yamato isn’t sure if the girl was still on the call.
“Hikari-chan?”
“Ah, sorry, it’s just…” she says. “Have you seen Takeru lately?”
“Takeru?” Yamato is taken aback. “Not lately. Aren’t you two in the same class?”
“Yeah…” Hikari replies, the disappointment in her voice almost tangible. “He’s just been so busy lately. I’m just a little worried if he’s overworking himself.”
“Busy?” Yamato asks, having no clue what his brother could be busy about, considering it was summer break. Even basketball training wouldn’t typically start getting serious for another few weeks, but the boy mustbe busy if he didn’t have enough time for even Hikari.
“He hasn’t said anything specific, but I’ll check on him.”
“Thanks Yamato. I just hope he’s alright.”
“Don’t worry about it. Maybe the basketball club got busy a little earlier this year.”
“Maybe,” the girl replies, concern ringing clear even after the call ends.
Yamato makes a mental note to call Takeru. The least he could do is tell his brother to free himself up this weekend, if Hikari was going through all this trouble for him.
As if on cue, his phone rings, this time with his brother’s name across the screen. Their amps were warm and his bandmates waiting, but concern from the previous conversation pushes Yamato to take the call.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“Nii-san, I need something. Are you busy?”
“I’ve got time. Whatcha need?”
“Nii-san, do you—”
Yamato's fist tightens around his phone.
“—still have tickets for your gig this weekend?”
The older boy’s lip twitches, before breaking into a smirk. If this is all his brother had on his mind, then it was not much to worry about.
“The Summer Starter?”
“'By the bay', yeah. Do you?”
“Hikari already got two tickets.”
Radio silence. A cicada sings alone in the distance.
“... so you don’t?” Takeru asks.
“I do, but she already got your—”
“That’s for her date.”
“Exactly. And...?” asked Yamato, growing impatient with what wasn’t clicking.
”Keiji.”
“Huh, Keiji?”
“From Taichi’s soccer team.”
“From the soccer team?!” came an entire chorus behind Yamato. Only then does he realize his whole band had been leaning in, only inches away, listening to the entire conversation.
Yamato swats at his bandmates with his free hand, shouting “Fuck off.” (The guitarist grumbles “Hurry up then,” the drummer, “Don’t leave us hanging!” The keyboardist — who himself had some more invested feelings for the girl since middle school — entered some sort of catatonic shock, a single tear staining his forlorn face.)
“Excuse me?” Takeru replies, with clearly strained civility.
“Sorry, not you,” Yamato says, still trying to recover from the news. “Okay, so tickets, right? Is five enough?” he asks, counting the rest of the younger gang on his fingers.
“Fifteen.”
“Fifteen?! What, are you scalping or something?”
“It’s for some friends.”
“Okay, how many of Jun’s friends does Daisuke need to bring?”
“Not them.”
“Not even Daisuke?”
“I’m taking the basketball team.”
“Really now?” Yamato says, raising an eyebrow.
Though Takeru was friendly with his teammates, it was the first time he seemed to be interested in hanging out with them outside the court. Takeru typically spent his free time with either Hikari or Daisuke, sometimes both (though recently Yamato had noted it was more of the former than the latter.)
“Your team still isn’t that large though, even counting subs,” Yamato pushes.
“We’ve got some… dates,” Takeru explains, with so much awkward weight on the last word. His brother struggles not to laugh.
“Okay, got it,” Yamato replies, clearly still straining to keep a straight tone. “You could claim the tickets tomorrow, after cooking me a full-course dinner. How about that?” he says, asking more for compliance than confirmation.
“I told Hikari to claim hers at the door, should I give you hers too instead?”
There is a pause on the line. Yamato could almost hear the gears turning in his brother’s head.
“I’m kind of busy this week. We could just claim them at the door too.”
“All fifteen? That’ll take a while. Even longer if the ushers are busy.”
“We could wait.”
“You sure? With all your dates?” Yamato teases.
“Yup. No problem,” the boy replies, almost too cool for his brother’s comfort.
“Okay then.”
“Okay.”
“If we’re all good could we get back to rehearsals then?” interrupts Yamato’s irate bandmate, guitar plugged and ready to play. (The drummer is still comforting the keyboardist, who was presently bawling his eyes out, crying Hikari’s name.)
Yamato shoots them a deadpan look before returning to the call to say, “Takeru?”
“Yeah?”
“You still owe me dinner though. Come over sometime.”
“I’ll do you one better. How about you come over and I’ll prepare the presidential suite?”
“After the gig?”
“I’ve already confirmed the reservation.”
Just then a furious progression of power chords blared across the rehearsal room — full volume, maximum overdrive, and plenty of feedback. The break was over.
The call ends and the band resumes their positions. (The keyboardist had not yet fully recovered, though he at least somehow managed to play through the tears, so long as he didn’t weep too close to the microphone.)
Yamato tried to keep his mind on the set, but he couldn’t keep from wondering about what was going on with his brother. He should have been happy the boy was branching out into new circles, but he couldn’t help but worry about what had happened with the old one. His brother was simply not one to leave his friends hanging.
In any case, they’d talk after the gig. Until then, Yamato could only hope that his brother was alright. But then again, this was Takeru after all, and between the two, if he could trust only one of them to have their shit together, Yamato knew which one it was.
Tumblr media
From the spotlight on an evening concert, it is often difficult to make out faces in an audience. Everyone's features are usually so ill lit that it is near impossible to identify even the most familiar face, especially when one is preoccupied performing for a few hundred people.
That is, unless you are the only blonde in a sea of black and brunette, then it soon becomes abundantly clear where to find you.
This is how Yamato finds precisely where his brother’s group stood on the Odaiba bay. This is also how Yamato saw Takeru wasn’t even watching most of their set. His interest seemed elsewhere, and it wasn’t on any of his friends either.
The boy kept stealing glances across the crowd, away from the stage, and the party, who didn't even seem to notice their distracted companion.
It was in a similar manner that Yamato soon found what was stealing his brother’s attention. In the dim lantern light, she stood out among the soccer team with her bright summer cap, a crown of yellow flowers fixed upon its brim. Yamato recognized it immediately, as this was the very same cap he himself helped Takeru choose for her, just last year, for the gang’s last summer trip.
At first Yamato wasn’t sure. After all, his brother could have simply been admiring the ambiance, the summer air, or the paper lanterns glowing gently in the night sky. He wouldn’t have given it another thought, if, as the band was exiting backstage after the gig, he didn’t catch the precise moment Hikari turned to catch Takeru’s sight herself.
Perhaps she was surprised to see him, for she squints for a second, before flashing him her brightest smile and waving broadly at him from across the crowd.
It was at this moment Yamato knew something was wrong, because he sees his brother freeze, then swiftly turn away, disappearing into the faceless crowd.
Hikari is heartbroken.
What an ass, Yamato thinks. This was not okay.
Yamato considers approaching the girl and apologizing on his brother’s behalf, but quickly thinks better of it. She wasn’t alone. She’d be fine, but he had to find his brother. This evening raised only more questions, and Yamato was going to get to the bottom of it, if he had to drag the answers out of his brother himself.
Tumblr media
“You are fourteen. Where did you even get the alcohol?” Yamato yells as he drags his heavily drunken brother through the Ishida doorway.
“Maybe somebody’s cool brother,” Takeru taunts, sticking his tongue out.
After the gig, a few phone calls, and a heated series of texts, Yamato found his brother at one of the concert afterparties, thoroughly intoxicated and about to toss his shirt into an indoor pool for a cheering crowd of fellow high schoolers.
It took all of Yamato's physical strength to haul both his gig gear and the heavily wasted boy into a taxi to take him home. (It took all his mental faculties on the other hand to explain to their mother why she would no longer be expecting the two that night, while he navigated how to keep her from hearing her younger son, who of course started making sex noises the minute he saw Yamato pull out his phone.)
Back at the apartment, Yamato chucks Takeru onto the living room couch with as much force as possible without causing any permanent damage.
“That’s just a sample of what you’re in for if you so much as take a sip of alcohol before you're twenty,” Yamato roars, taking his brother by the collar and throwing him back onto the couch (though Takeru is too out of it to feel any of this yet.) “How much did you even have?!”
With the most satisfied grin the youngest boy proudly lifts two fingers.
“Cases?!” Yamato is almost impressed.
“Nahh,” Takeru says, with the same stupid smile, just when Yamato thought he couldn’t get more disappointed with his brother tonight.
Rolling his eyes, Yamato heads to the kitchen to prepare an unholy brew of tea leaves, sports drinks, a whole clove of garlic, and a single potato — among other unmentionable ingredients. He pours it into a mug to serve his brother.
“Drink this,” he says, holding it up to his brother.
Takeru struggles to sit up, barely beginning to regain muscle control. Once he whiffs the offensive fluid though he almost gags.
“Hey! Not on the couch!”
“The fuck is this?” Takeru demands, thoroughly disgusted.
“Hey.” Yamato says sternly. “When’d you learn to talk like that?”
“When’d you learn to cook garbage?”
Yamato rolls his eyes. “Just take it. It’ll help.”
“...How do you know?”
“I’ll be asking the questions here,” says the older boy, standing above his brother. “What’s up with you?”
“From this angle, you.”
“I’m serious!”
“Hi serious, I’m—”
“So everything’s a joke to you now? Is that how you lost all your friends?”
“I have friends.”
“You mean those creeps who would have let you strip to a cheering crowd? What about Daisuke? Hikari?”
“We’ve got other friends.”
“Is that what it is? Cause Hikari has ‘another’ friend?”
“No...”
“What’s up then?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing. ‘Nothing’ is why you’re avoiding everyone?”
“I’m not.”
“Why Hikari had to ask me how you’re doing?”
“Stop.”
“And why you couldn’t even look at—”
“SHUT UP.”
Yamato hears the crash before he realizes what hit him. It was Takeru’s fist. His brother punched him clean across the face and tackled him to the ground, overturning the tiny coffee table on the way down.
On impulse Yamato thrusts Takeru off and pins the boy to the living room floor, quickly raising his own fist in retaliation, Takeru braces for the punch he knows he deserves, when they pause a moment to catch their breath, both surprised at the turn of events.
Yamato could have thrown that punch. He’d bloodied faces for less (sometimes even for kicks) but somehow, looking down at his brother, he can’t help but notice the clear crack in his voice and his Adam’s apple that was only beginning to form.
It is his eyes though that are most striking, baby blue and full of uncertainty, brow furrowed with a fear that Yamato knew all too well. The older boy couldn’t claim to know what his brother was going through, but he knew this feeling: the doubt, the withdrawal, and the awful conviction that you had to deal with it all on your own.
In his brother’s eyes, Yamato sees mirrored all the familiar fears he himself held — perhaps holds still. In that moment, he realizes that maybe they weren’t so different after all.
So, with his brother pinned beneath him and his fist poised for a punch, Yamato slowly unclenches his hand and lowers it to the floor, before pulling his brother up into a tight hug.
It only lasts a second, and by the time Takeru’s still tipsy mind catches up, Yamato has already stood, leaving the younger boy stunned and seated on the living room floor. Takeru watches as his brother fixes the upturned coffee table, and makes for his bedroom. He pauses there with his hand on the knob.
“Listen,” Yamato says, “I’m sorry.”
“Whatever’s happening with you, you don’t need to tell anyone. Not your friends, not mom or dad. Not even me. If this is an issue or if this is just who you’re turning out to be, you don’t owe anyone that explanation.”
“But you owe it to yourself to admit if you’re hurting, or in trouble. If you could use some help. ‘Cause if you do, then we could all figure out what we could do about that.”
Finally turning the knob, he says, “We’re worried about you.”
“I’m here if you need anything,” he concludes as he enters the room, leaving his brother to think on the living room floor, bedroom door slightly ajar.
Tumblr media
Takeru wakes up on the couch in the morning, with the worst headache of his young life. Yamato is at the stove preparing breakfast: a stack of pancakes, a kettle of tea, and another batch of the offensive hangover remedy bubbling atop a back burner.
By the time he finds the strength to stagger to the dining table, breakfast has been served. Yamato casually sips some fresh tea.
Placing the cup back on its coaster, he looks up at the boy to ask, “So, wanna talk?”
Slowly, Takeru nods, as his brother pours him a cup of tea and its comforting aroma fills the apartment air.
Tumblr media
note: THE CHAPTER ENDS THERE BUT @eveangelleicalarcher INTRODUCED ME TO MCU SO HERE'S A POST-CREDITS SCENE NO ONE ASKED FOR I JUST WANTED IT TO HAPPEN
Tumblr media
"Thanks for dinner," says Yamato, clapping his hands after the hearty home cooked meal.
"So tired. So full," replies his absolutely exhausted brother.
"Would you say you've eaten enough?"
"You emptied the rice cooker. On. My. Plate," Takery retorts. "I've had enough for the next month."
"Great. Now for the next item on our agenda."
"What agenda?"
"Mom isn't expecting you til Monday right?" Yamato asks, casually walking back to the kitchen.
Takeru nods. "Why?"
"My dear baby brother," Yamato says, closing his eyes for effect. "Someday, I won't be there to save your wasted ass." He grabs a handful of grocery bags from the refrigerator. "But until then, I will do everything within my power to prepare you for that day."
'What are you talking about?"
The older boy pulls out a collection of shot glasses Takeru was not even aware they owned. "Tonight, we find your limit."
Before Takeru knows it, the table is lined with a dozen bottles, several shot glasses, two shakers, and an overly ornate stein Takeru has never seen before.
"I already swore I'd never —"
"We both know that's bullshit." Yamato cuts. "But I'll prepare you. Train you. Take you under my wing." He continues pilling cans on the table.
"You're freaking me out."
"Don't worry. I've done this with Taichi. He covered this," Yamato says, raising a bottle of shochu.
"You told Taichi?! What if he tells—"
"Shh! Focus, Takaishi."
Takeru begins to sweat as he reads a Johnnie Walker label. "I don't think dad would approve of this."
"Dad covered that one."
Sheer terror.
Yamato finishes unloading the last grocery bag and marvels at the bounty before him. "Every solution your young mind could ever think to consume. And then some."
Takeru twitches in his seat. He knew adolescence was going to be scary, but nothing could have prepared him for the anxiety brought by his brother announcing, "We're getting shitfaced tonight."

the chosen on social media
this is inspired by @tangledupblue and her wonderful instagram series. you can find those here, as well as other digimon related things! (please check them out - i love them!)
hikari
probably has a cute handle - something like @/light.of.your.life or @/hikariferarri (courtesy of takeru).
is instagram FAMOUS for her photography. she also helps the other chosen take quality pictures for their social medias
she only has facebook so that she can share her mom’s recipes
while she likes snapchat, the updates can get confusing. there have been multiple times where she sent iori a message meant for miyako
hikari loves twitter, but only to find meme to send to the “LIL BABEY MONS” group chat. (in reference to one of her fav vids, THIS).
has a tiktok, but only posts behind-the-scenes shots of photo shoots or asmr day-in-my-life clips.
iori
he has an instagram, but posts once every 43 weeks
he loves using Facebook to keep up with his family members, kendo pals, and school friends. he only posts selfies that make him look like an old man or the shots hikari captures at his matches.
despite being the youngest chosen, he really acts like the oldest. he doesnt really get all of the "twitting" and "chat snapping". why don't people just send emails anymore?
he only downloaded snapchat because miyako threatened him with his life kindly suggested that he be apart of the "LIL BABEY MONS" group chat
yamato
this boy is a twitter KING
he can literally post about his least favorite genre of milk (🤢 skim 🤢) and have thousands of retweets in a few minutes
instagram isnt really his “thing”, but anytime he does post, takeru gives him shit for it
he has to most followers out of anyone in the group, but mimi is a close second
facebook hasn’t been a thing for him since he was eleven and wanted to play farmville
sora
she updates DAILY for her facebook friends
anytime she drinks a diet coke? posted. the horrible incident involving veemon and a lost diaper? written about in detail.
she is a total mom friend, and most of her pictures consist of piyomon and her friends at their extracurricular activities.
she runs a fan account for knife of day on twitter. after the band changed their name, most of their follower-base was lost, so sora...became a fandom catfish to give them clout.
once a month, she has to go on a “social media detox” because she used pinterest more than 3 hours.
ken
tries to avoid all social media because people still tag him in his old interviews. (his hair style?  🤢 🤢 his attitude?  🤮 🤮
he also used to be a cyber bully in elementary school. his old email address was [email protected]
he’s on linkedin,,,,,,it’s not that cool
he leaves everyone on read with snapchat. his philosophy is that if the person truly needed him, they would just call
he LOVES making playlists on spotify!!! some of them even have more than ten likes!!!
also, he updates his goodreads daily and makes sure to review every single thing he has ever read.
daisuke
this boy SPAMS snapchat and his instagram with food pics
“phone eats first”
he also lowkey runs a thirst-trap tiktok account. his motto is “i do it for the girls and the gays, that’s it.”
his snap score is ASTRONOMICAL, and he probably has well over 300 friends.
he often posts those “anonymous message” things, but only posts the nice ones because he wants people to think that he is Super Cool.
he tries too hard on instagram, and the other chosen often tease him in the comments
his favorite pastime is to watch trick-shots on youtube
jou
he doesnt really have the time to divulge in social media, so his phone is pretty dry.
his only friends on snapchat are the eleven other chosen and his “””””””””””girlfriend”””””””””””””””””””
facebook?? who is she??
he only uses instagram to promote local charities, share photos of “interesting” x-rays, wounds, etc, and to post links to informational articles
that’s it, honestly. he is a simple man.
miyako
QWEEN of EVERYTHING, sry about it
instagram? she serves LOOKS daily
snapchat? you KNOW she spams “LIL BABEY MONS” at all hours of the night with obscure memes and questions about philosophy.
she also loves to use pinterest for some of her more elaborate ideas, but leaves the bulk of that to mimi.
she is semi-famous on twitter for starting drama in the “computer enthusiat” community (it isn’t her fault that twelve-year-old boys have the ego of a fully grown daisuke and need to be knock down a peg or few)
miyako is also a life-style vlogger, but her most famous video is titled  “day in the life of a japanese student that casually studied abroad in spain but is back now!!! 🌸 💫 🌈 ”
she also invites mimi onto her channel so that they can make disaster-prone recipes together
koushiro
he has snapchat because it is mimi’s preferred form of communication
anytime kou sees a cool flower or something pretty, he sends it to the girls
despite being very proficient in computer studies, he refuses to help the girls change the html text of their blogs to make it ombre
linkedin is his most favorite, and he thinks it is fun to update his resume
he lowkey is the admin of a world-wide digimon discord server along with takeru
taichi
his snap score rivals daisuke’s, but it is mainly used for his teammates and the various...lovely women he meets up with most nights.
his dm’s are always full, and his instagram is full of only soccer pics. that’s it. that is his only personality trait.
he only follows two (2) famous soccer players on twitter, but hasnt logged on since middle school. his profile picture is a stock photo of a dinosaur
,,,,,,,,,lowkey has pornhub premium
mimi
pinterest is her literal bestfriend. she is ALWAYS searching up ideas about home decor, new recipes, etc.
YOUTUBER STATUS!!!! she is so chaotic and edits her videos to the max, but the public love her.
her insta is filled with plants, cute outfits, scenery, and candids of her friends. she also highkey loves having a social media theme!!
she has 86 profiles on facebook because she keeps forgetting her passwords and doesnt know how to delete the old ones
takeru
he LOVES goodreads! he makes all kinds of friends that like the same stories!!
he loves moderating the digimon discord server because he can learn all kinds of language and ways to tell hikari he loves her
he posts aesthetic pictures of books and coffee shops on his insta and odd snippets of his friends (hikari's hand in the corner, yamato's hair poking about, whatever strikes his fancy)

Second Generation Headcanons
These are my headcanons of how the children from the epilogue would be. I know most folks don´t like the epilogue (For the most part I still don’t know how to feel about it) but I do, however in my head Takari and Koumi are canon (there are people who like the epilogue but don’t like including non explicit canon ships) (I won’t be mentioning them just in case), I really love the design for the kids!!!
Tumblr media
Let’s start:
The following fanart is done by the amazing Mishy (who let me use her art for this post) (go check her out x)
Tumblr media
Sora and Yamato’s kids: (sorry I suck at naming characters so don’t expect names)
The only ones who were fully planned they waited a while to have kids because:
1. Were busy building successful and time demanding careers.
2. Given their own childhood issues, they both agreed to wait until both were 100% on board and could provide a healthy household for their kids to grow up.
Were scared shitless anyways
Yamato is the cool uncle who is an astronaut, all the kids LOVE him, and he loves all the kids. Always brings every single one of them presents from his travels or science/related ones.
The son:
Tiny baby (the takeru of the group), everyone is so protective of him not only his sister and cousins. His Digimon follows the gabumon line and is really powerful so he doesn’t really need the extra protection (but everyone ignores this)
Inherited the crest of light. He is a ray of sunshine
Ok hear me out. I think the chosen lost/gave up their crest sometime between kizuna and the epilogue and while their kids got the same baby Digimon as their parents, the crest were redistributed according to their own personality traits.
That scared his parents, because they saw how it burdened Hikari. Even if the darkness was placated years ago (whatever was after Hikari is gone), it couldn’t be truly destroyed. Still, this crest carries a lot of power and responsibility.
Hikari came over and took him to the park and over ice cream explained the crest to him and reassured them all that they have nothing to be worried about and they could contact her anytime in case something happens.
The daughter:
Bearer of the crests of Love and Friendship.
Scarily similar to both of her parents.
Loves to play and participate in group activities, but also enjoys being alone sometimes.
Really into art, she is never seen without her sketch book and a pen. All the paintings in her house are painted by her. And her mother also incorporates some of them into her designs or uses them as inspiration.
100% Daddy’s girl. She looks up to Yamato so much, even dresses a little like him and keeps her hair short for a while (she loves it when they tell her she looks like him).
Loves to hang out with Taichi’s son. They are in the same school.
Had an emo phase.
Tumblr media
Miyako and Ken’s children:
The babies having babies. I am emo.
They both work a lot, but miyako does it from home (she works with Koushiro, fight me). They still take them to the park a lot and go on family trips all the time.
THE DAUGHTER:
Little shit.
Actual genius. Always doing experiments, don’t be surprised if you see the dog with a phone taped to his collar, she is probably trying something. Loves computers but science is her thing. After all these years they let her be as long as 1. She is home, 2. Doesn’t involve the digimons, 3. Doesn’t involve fire.
One time Yamato gave her a chemistry set. They had to move out to another building. After that, Ken asked him to bring her moon rocks from now on. She also loved the rocks
Loves to roast everyone in the family (mostly Miyako). Ken has to remind her not to be so rude to her mom. She adores her parents, but this brings her joy.
Crest of purity. Mimi is proud of her
Don’t be fooled, she is the goggle kid of this gen.
The son
Actual cinnamon roll, too pure for this world.
Calm personality. It contrasts a little from his sister’s. But if she is up to something, he is the only one 100% aware of it and would follow her to the end of the world.
Miyako thought she was coercing him, but no, he loves his older sister’s ideas and plans.
Crest of Love.  He is really in tune with other people’s feelings, it concerns his parents because he can be overly empathetic sometimes and it affects him. He is really open and wears his heart on his sleeve.
He tells everything to his mom, and if something goes wrong, he’s the first one to contact the adults.
Tumblr media
Iori’s daughter
Iori was the youngest to have a kid, he knew it, but he really wanted his grandfather to meet his kid and see him happy and married before he died.
He isn’t sappy or overly romantic, but he believes in love at first sight, meet his wife on his first day in college and didn’t look back.
Lives in the same building as takeru. They drink tea together in the afternoons like old british ladies
The kid
Looks like a cinnamon roll but is Little shit 2. Best friends with little shit 1 and Takeru’s son.
Again, Ken has to make sure they aren’t overly mean to Miyako and Iori.
Crests of knowledge. Wants to know everything about the digimons and the digital world.
Has Iori wrapped around her finger since day one, but he is the first one to call her out her BS.
Isn’t into kendo but likes to try different extracurricular activities (still hasn’t found what she likes yet), but Iori is her #1 fan everytime.
Jyou’s son
Jyou moved around the country for a while, so his kid didn’t grow up as close to the others. He still made sure they all hung out together whenever he was in town.
“I have to make sure you don’t miss me”
“oh, it isn’t like you were around much when we were young”
“MIMI-KUN!”
The kid
Gomamon’s biggest fan. He and his own Bukamon were his only friends for a while, he can’t wait for bukamon to digivolve so he can be with TWO gomamons.
When they moved back, He got close to Takeru’s kid. Doesn’t get what the fuss about his father is about.
He knows a lot about digimons but is more into engineering. Doesn’t like blood.
Inherited his father’s lack of chill. Has a little crush on iori’s daughter (hasn’t figured out how to act around her, yet).
Crest of purity/reliability.
Tumblr media
Takeru’s son
He is with Hikari and their kids are siblings. Please let me have this.
Takeru really loves his nephew and niece. He totally would spoil them rotten.
Designated Babysitter. Since he is a freelancer, you can say he has a lot of free time (not to his face tho), he likes to take the kids to amusement parks, go for ice cream, etc.…
After his lonely childhood he is loving having such a big family now. I CrY.
The kid.
Grew up listening to his father’s stories every night.
One thing he learned about them was the importance of being prepared all the time and think before he acts. He is thoughtful, so he really related to Jyou.
Not only that, Jyou is his hero. Takeru was really amused at first when his son would ask him questions about him after his bedtime stories. He is fond of his son admiration for his friend, who also saved him when he was younger, and knows that Jyou being away contributed to this.
Carries a backpack with him all the time. You want water? He got it. You need tissues? He has some. Some kid at school is being mean to you? He would show up to walk you home. (doesn’t like violence)
Crests of reliability. The kid was ecstatic.
At first, he got close to Jyou’s son so he could talk about his dad but ended up really liking the kid. (he likes to be friends with everyone)
Best friends with Iori’s daughter. And hella overprotective of his cousins.
Hikari’s son:
Please
Designated babysitter 2. She is really good with kids, tho she also helps organize plans for only the adults.
Tailmon disappeared one day when she was heavily pregnant, she looked for her the whole day and finally found her in her mother’s house. Tailmon told her she was worried that when she had the baby, she wouldn’t like having her around anymore.
Hikari reassured her that she would love them all equally and she will need her now more than ever. They cried and made up, then her water broke.
Taichi totally cried nonstop the day she gave birth. She still teases him about it.
The kid:
Healthy as a horse, athletic and tall. Total opposite from his mother except for his looks. It amuses Taichi to no end.
Behind the scenes leader. He loves to bring out the best in everyone and always makes sure they are all fine. He specially loves to hang out with Miyako’s kids, Daisuke’s son and Takeru’s son his sibling (they have to deal with the shenanigans of LS1 and LS2, god bless them).
Crest of Fate. Hikari always suspected that like her, he wouldn’t get a normal crest, still cautious as to what exactly this one means.
Hates being alone, isn’t used to it. Tailmon slept in his crib with him when he was a baby. He is always with his plotmon and has got in trouble several times for bringing her to school. He hasn’t told anyone but his Nyaromon digivolved because he ran to the street without looking and was almost hit by a car. Plotmon saved him.
Loves having sleepovers at his uncle’s house, despite their age difference he really loves to play with his cousin.
Tumblr media
Taichi’s son
Always said he’d rather be a cool uncle than being a father. But the more he thought about it the more he wanted it. He realized he was the only one without a kid, but his travels still made him hesitate.
Still goes over to Yamato and Sora’s house all the time. One time when Sora was pregnant Yamato arrived from work and found Sora sitting in the sofa and Taichi cutting fruit in the kitchen.
Yamato and Taichi sat down, Taichi handed Sora a bowl of fruit and whipped cream and started eating it with her.
“thanks”
“You didn’t bring me a fork?”
“oh, I am sorry, was the baby growing inside you pushing your organs too?” Taichi and Sora laugh.
“no. but then why are you eating?”
“I cut the fruit”
“well, I bought the fruit!”
“GUYS”
“Sorry… but seriously what’s the matter with you lately?”
“I don’t know what are you talking about… hey Sora how did I do it?”
“the fruit? Fine I guess… why?” both Sora and Yamato stared at Taichi waiting for him to spill.
“OHjustfine?ok,bythewayiamhavingababytoo”
One time he got emotional after seeing his little sister’s son taking care of his son.
ANYWAYS, THE KID
CREST OF FRIENDSHIP *not pictured: everyone laughing about it for years.
Baby but doesn’t like being treated as one. Super independent, dresses himself since he is two. Loves to challenge himself.
Instant best friends with everyone he meets. Loves to hangout with the Ishidas. They are his best friends, also his cousin, also is everyone else. Doesn’t mind being around adults as well, often called matured for his age. This amuses Hikari.
Apart from his parents, Hikari is his favorite person in the world. Right now, he wants to be a teacher like her. (Last week he wanted to be a Chef like Mimi)
He and the third Ichijouji kid will probably lead the next gen.
Daisuke’s son
Daisuke travelled a lot, meet a lot of people and ironically, he married one of his neighbors. He went one time to visit his parents and ran into the girl who lived upstairs, whom he knew since he was a kid, but holy shit. He visited his parents everyday for a month until she asked him out.
When she got pregnant, he asked Taichi for his goggles.
The kid:
Prankster. Did you expect anything else? (his chibimon has a really deep voice and he loves to use him to prank people)
Don’t leave him alone with the Ichijouji girl if you value your home or your life.
Crest of Courage. Loves a good adventure, well for him everything is an adventure: from running errands with his aunt to going with his father to one of his restaurants around the world.
He is a handful; however, he has a big heart and is such a happy kid.
Admires the older chosen a lot and it’s always asking them questions about their adventures. Dreams of being an explorer or changing the world. Yamato patiently answers all his questions about space since his own kids don’t seem to be interested.
Tumblr media
Mimi’s son:
She totally married koushiro, bear with me on this.
She has a multifaceted career, although not in what you would expect (she wasn’t interested in acting or singing professionally). She ran a lot of business, selling them when she lost interest. Is not afraid of taking risks. This meant she travelled a lot.
Eventually got tired (yes, I know. Mimi, tired? Yes) and came back to Japan. At first, she was promoting her new cooking book in a tv show but she got offered her own show and has been living her best life ever since.
The kid:
He is quiet, introvert but observant.
Ironically, he speaks 4 languages (Japanese, English, French, and Spanish), he is learning german now. He loves reading so that’s why he likes languages a lot.
He bonds with the other kids over the digimons and card games, ends up going to school with most of them and they eventually bring him out of his shell. He and Jyou’s son are kindred spirits.
Calm kid, but if you mess with him or one of his friends… you will see him angry. He is honest and loyal to his friends.
(you know how each baby Digimon has multiple evolution lines? I read in the Digimon wiki that one of Palmon’s ultimate forms is a cherrymon. Imagine Taichi saying something like: “Well kid, one advice: never tell someone to kill their friends” and the kid being like: “…ok?”, whereas Mimi and Yamato glare at him “I’ll fucking end you Taichi”)
Crest of knowledge/courage, of course.
Last but no least:
Koushiro’s Daughter.
By this point You know what’s up
Koushiro first thought when she was handed to him for the first time was: “wow, she looks like me.” What really got to him (even though it shouldn’t) was how he had someone related to him by blood.
He adores her and is really proud of every little thing she does. Remember the “do it for her” scene from the Simpsons? He totally has one like that in his office.
Tentomon didn’t tell anyone that he spent a whole day watching Youtube hair styling tutorials. No, none. He didn’t tell Palmon and Gomamon who told everyone else, no.
The kid:
Actual ray of sunshine. (i know i seem to say this about every kid, but listen they are my kids too)
She is the nicest kid you’ll ever meet. Koushiro says he’s never had to deal with a temper tantrum.
Crest of Kindness. Loves animals, got her dad to donate money to the oceans and animal shelters.
Sora gave her stickers with cute animals and smiley faces for her birthday and now if she sees someone sad, she gives them a sticker. “Dad, you look sad today. Here!” she puts a smiley face on his forehead, he smiles and hugs her. He didn’t take it off and “accidentally” went on a meeting like that. Miyako took pictures and sent them to the group chat.
Closest to Ken’s son and Mimi’s son her brother. Also loves to hangout with Taichi’s son, and Yamato’s kids.
Loves music, actual prodigy. Plays the piano and the violin (she plays violin most of the time). Wants to compose a song for each Digimon. Invites everyone to her concerts.
Ok, this was long. I didn’t talk about the baby, but i think he would be Hope (since he is the last one) (wrote this in an hour and english is not my first language, so yeah. Sorry)
I think these people love each other so much, they might’ve drifted apart in their youth, but with the years they all got close again. Since most of the kids don’t have siblings, they set up playdates, so they don’t feel lonely. They don’t regret the events that brought them together, they knew they had to let their kids experience it when the time came.

I need a fic
where the chosen children go on a road trip and this is how this would go:
They would go on three cars (4 per car).
Sora, Yamato, Takeru and Hikari would take the first one. This is the chill car where evertone gets along very well, they listen to music, Sora, Takeru and Hikari have nice short conversations (occasionally Yamato may join), they drink mate (what), Takeru is extremely annoying but Sora laughs and Hikari approves, etc. etc. etc. I would be in this car.
Then we have Jyou, Taichi, Daisuke and Miyako. Jyou drives because it’s his car and he would NEVER allow Taichi but NEVER. Miyako and Daisuke don’t drive. Daisuke never learns. Jyou believes that the best speed is like 30 km/h below the speed. So. Taichi is very annoyed. Daisuke keeps complaining about Hikari being in the same car as Takeru. Taichi would laugh, but he’s so annoyed. Miyako defends her friend’s DECISION OF GOING WHEREVER SHE WANTS TO go and is very annoyed at Daisuke and at the same time longingly looks at Mimi’s car in her imagination because she is 30km behind where she is riding to happiness with Ken.
We then have Mimi who drives BUT SHE LEARNT ON THE STATES so everything is different in Japan and Koushirou wants to read and not be annoyed BUT THIS WOMAN IS DANger and obviously Ken doesn’t help he’s so shy he’s thinking about Miyako and then Iori wants to help but he’s so serious that Mimi can’t stop laughing and screamING HOW CUTE he is omg Koushirou WILL DIE here. It’s Ken parent’s car btw.
Then we make the first stop.
Taichi and Koushirou RUN to Sora and Yamato and DEMAND to be included in their car and OBVIOUSLY Yamato takes the opprotunity to say NO and Hikari agrees and Takeru is catching butterflies or whatever he does when he’s not annoying people and Sora is buying food and drinks for everyone and that’s lucky for Yamato because otherwise she would put Taichi and Koushirou in their car and she herself would change and that would be the worst.
Taichi just can’t believe that neither SORA nor HIKARI HIS OWN SISTER would want to travel with him and he’s annoyed for the rest of his life like for half and hour.
Koushirou offers to PAY YAMATO but he just won’t, he’s incorruptible (a 100%).
Sora finds out and obviously wants to PUT TAICHI AND KOUSHIROU in her car and go to another one but Hikari is magically extremely convincing and she doesn’t go. The four of them stay together.
Jyou has noticed how fast Mimi drives and is very anxious about her and about her health and their lives basically and Koushirou understands so he sweet talks her into driving with Jyou, because he needs to go with Taichi still and he would like to give the car to her when he’s tired Koushirou where did you learn this so she happily agrees and return Ken his keys and guess he also has to drive now.
So Ken happily welcomes Miyako into his car and so Daisuke and Iori will come too but then Daisuke is STILL without Hikari so that’s not good and he still is in a bad mood but now Miyako is with Ken so she doesn’t care she still screams at him and Iori just sighs and wonders what Koushirou and Jyou are doing.
Obviously Jyou’s car is still behind, Mimi is singing and offering everyone weird sweets and Taichi will most surely be sich and Koushirou is ASKING HIMSELF when did he become so dumb WHY DID HE ORGANIZED THIS and he decides to do something bad to Yamato when he has the chance it was a 100% Hikari’s fault but no one would ever believe so
And then Mimi goes: “how weird it is to be in the same car with the boy I liked as a child, the boy that everyone thinks I like and the boy that I actually like” and that’s it she DOESN’T explain WHO EACH BOY IS and this is a math thing that Koushirou just CAN’T SOLVE and Jyou may crash the car and Taichi just opens his mouth and HE CAN’T JUST CAN’T DO ANYTHING and suddenly everyone is quiet (their brains are going mad) and Mimi picks up her book (Alice in Wonderland) and smiles at herself she knows she’s the brain of the group, well maybe after Hikari
Sora, Yamato, Hikari and Takeru are happily singing and joining hands and driving to happiness or something like that and you see the horizon THE END.

hi, new follower here!! i hope you'll get better soon :"D mind if i ask your headcanon about what the digidestined will do under the lockdown? thanks!
Hi there, thank you for following me!  I’m alright, I just have GAD and am struggling with it right now.  I imagine I’m in good company now, though, what with the pandemic...  Which is an appropriate segue into your ask!
I’m sure there are folks who don’t wanna hear about lockdown and pandemics, so I will throw this one beneath the cut :D  I will assume that the kids are their 2020 ages (ie, Koushiro was born in 1989 ish, so he’s about 31), and I will try not to be depressing.  I’ll also assume the digimon are currently in the Digital World, just for my sanity.  I’m also assuming the Chosen are okay economically, and that the lockdown is enforced (ie, none of them are allowed  to report to work or go out, with few exceptions).
Thanks for the ask <3
Taichi
Chilling out at home, reading manga, watching TV, and being lazy is fun... for a few days.  Very soon, Taichi is pacing his apartment, doing at-home workouts, and wishing his cooking was better.  He can only eat so many omelettes!!!
The social isolation hits hard at some point, even though he Facetimes people.  And even though he finds ways to move in his apartment, staring at the same four walls is rough for someone who prefers stimulation.  He temporarily moves back in with his parents or with a friend at the first opportunity!
Probably gets pretty buff during lockdown.  He loses his tan, and his hair grows back to its incredible childhood proportions, which makes his friends and family laugh!
Yamato
Does a lot of cooking/baking, and takes the opportunity to study and work out.  Being an astronaut requires top mental and physical condition!  He’s pretty used to being isolated to a degree, because...  Again, astronaut.
He’s worried about his loved ones, especially Takeru and his dad.  When he can, he temporarily moves in with one (or both?).  He says it’s “to take care of them,” since they’re so “hopeless,” but he’s full of shit.  He’s lonely and worried.
If he’s in space, then he’s even more frantic, due to the distance from his loved ones.  The astronauts frequently look at earth and wonder what the hell is happening down there.
If he’s with Sora at this point, then he fares better for her companionship and reassurances.
Sora
She checks in with her friends and family over Facetime.  They think she’s worried about them, and they’re not wrong...  But doing something for the people she loves helps Sora find purpose and connection in difficult times.  She experiences worry for the world and her friends, so she tries to keep busy.
Sora has a lot of hobbies, so she spends the time working on outfit designs and sewing.  She finally makes a dent in her fabric supplies!  Still, she’s an active person, and she starts to feel pent-up before long, even though she’s exercising.  When she’s not sewing or talking to friends, she cleans and escapes into online art galleries.
If she’s with Yamato at this point, she probably fares better.  If not, I imagine she might temporarily stay with a friend when she can.
Koushiro
What lockdown?
Just kidding!  Still, Koushiro feels a little guilty because...  He’s enjoying working from home instead of reporting to the office, and his work productivity has skyrocketed.  He’s not particularly lonely, since he can use Facetime, and he doesn’t feel pent-up at home.
But he soon finds that he relies on the routine of reporting to work and moving through the day more than he realized.  During lock down, it’s easy for him to forget to eat, bathe, sleep, and take breaks without his routine!  He also lost a lot of his food options, and he can’t cook...
Luckily, Taichi often calls in the evenings to play online games.
He temporarily moves in with his parents ASAP.
Mimi
THIS IS THE WORRRRSSSSTTTTTT!  Mimi can’t deal with lockdown.  Hopefully, she was able to move in with friends or a romantic interest for a bit beforehand.  If not, I think she might actually pop.  And even with friends, she’ll crave stimulation.
She tries to spend the time thinking of new recipes, but her ingredients are limited...  Which means that she digs deep into the supplies that have sat, unused, for a while...
She probably has a lot of board game nights and virtual dinner parties with her friends.
Jyou
If he’s a human doctor at this point, then he’s an essential employee.  He’s working himself to the bone to help people.  He won’t allow anyone to live with him for now, because of the risk of exposing them.  He’s on top of covid-19 research and news, and how little is known about the virus and the changing information terrifies him.
His friends start ordering food to be delivered to him, fearing that he isn’t taking care of himself.  He mostly sleeps when he’s at home, since he spends so long working so hard.  I hope other people will support him, because Jyou will set himself on fire to help others.
Takeru
Uses humor to cope, but on the inside, he’s afraid.  Calls his family and friends a lot, and tries to be nonchalant...  But they know he’s scared and wanting to check in.
Takeru reads and writes constantly during lockdown, and watches shows and movies that he’s always meant to watch.  He usually takes walks for inspiration, and the lack of visual stimulation/change of scenery is rough on him.  He’s also pretty social, so lockdown is rough on him.  He probably takes up a random hobby to cope, something really weird, like ventriloquism.  Is he doing this to mess with people, or because he’s losing it?  Who knows!
Blogs about everything.  Everything.  Prank calls his friends, and pretends that they’re buying it when they clearly are not.
Probably comes crying to live with Onii-chan for a bit ASAP.
Hikari
Hikari keeps herself occupied well, but she’s worried about her friends and family, and she gets lonely.  She calls everyone often, especially Miyako when she’s feeling really down.
Hikari holds online learning sessions for her kiddos, both group and individual.  It’s a ton of work, but she’s glad to see her students and have even this much normalcy.  She probably couldn’t cope without it.
She does a photography light study during lockdown, and probably adopts a cat, if she doesn’t have one already.
Daisuke
Spontaneously combusts by day four.  I’m kidding!  Mostly!
I’m not sure if restaurants operate during a lockdown, but ramen isn’t a good delivery option, I’d imagine?  Well, if he can work, at least he can get out and do that.  If not, he spends most of lockdown experimenting with food and drinks, and researching for his business.  He joins Taichi for work outs- they follow the same videos together.  Constantly calling his friends, especially Ken and Miyako.  Probably drinks more than he should.  Watches lots of movies and TV, plays video games.
So like...  You know, he keeps busy as best he can, but Daisuke is an active, social man.  It’s rough on him!
Miyako
I imagine she has kids by now...  She probably throws herself into keeping them busy and entertained.  The good news is that she has Ken and at least one kid at this point, so she’s not alone.
Being pent-up is hard for her, so she tries to put together novel experiences for herself and her family: crafts, games, cooking challenges, forts, and competitive cleaning.  Even though they’re inside all day, everyone is pooped by the end of the day!
She winds down in the evening by talking to Hikari or Ken with a drink.
Iori
He’s grateful to live with his mother and grandfather at this time.  I don’t know if he’d still be able to do lawyer work- maybe he can study cases that are on hold?  Would he be a lawyer at this point?
Iori has a steady, grounded personality, so I think he’d fare alright.  He would practice kendo, maybe participate in online training, and spend time with his aging grandfather.  Maybe he’d take the opportunity to record his grandfather on camera, asking him questions about his life.
Iori would probably check in on people intermittently, but I think his primary focus will be on his family at this time.
Ken
Hmm, this is hard...  I imagine police are essential, but is Ken more of a... detective?  I’m not sure if he’d be working or not?
If he is, well, he’d be busy with that.  If not, I’m sure there’s a lot to do at home, with young children.  The good news is that he isn’t lonely, unless he has to live elsewhere in the event that he’s working and doesn’t want to potentially expose his young family.
Basically, this one depends on circumstances.  I could see Ken doing alright, or doing really... not alright if he’s separated from his family.

Based on “To Sora” I’ve decided to write down a thingy just for the sake of taking advantage of those ideas while i’m unable to draw sheet lol
----------
[Decision]
The entire group learned of Sora’s decision and respected her. Taichi, Yamato and Daisuke knew she had been pretty away from the battles since Meicoomon’s fiasco, and that probably had put her on a delicate mental status of fearing everyday for Piyomon’s life. She wanted all those battles to stop, to everyone be happy alongside their digimon partners and be able to follow their path.
The three boys knew that very well. Taichi and Yamato somehow became a bit more protective of the young kids, and to Daisuke that meant the senior duo wasn’t trusting him anymore. More than that, he was pretty busy lately with his own dream -- something he had stated eons ago to all of the eleven before.
While Taichi had no idea what to do with his life -- except that he wanted to stay with Agumon and his friends for the rest of his life -- the lead of the group felt everyone taking their own path. Not just Sora, Yamato, Daisuke... But Everyone. Miyako had been studying abroad on Spain, Iori became a Joe 2.0 despite him seeing the young boy around Daisuke and Ken... Takeru and Hikari also had their own plans for the future.
Soon or later, they will stop battling and let the next gen to do the job in their place. That’s what they all had in mind. It’s time to stop. It’s time to become part of the past.
Despite Taichi’s desire to stay with Agumon and the other eleven kids and their digimon... He also wanted all of those fights to stop. He wanted them all to wake up at the morning and only care about trivial things. School. Work. Dates. Family. etc.
“Y’know she’s right to stop, and I’m sure once I get that ramen shop goal...”
Taichi glanced at Daisuke, on one of those ramen trips he had been doing for research. This time Taichi had came with him since Ken had been busy.
“She... You mean Sora?”
Daisuke nodded, “Sora’s just the first of us to take a tough decision. We’re getting older and older. Can you believe I’m turning 20 next year? I will be able to go drink with you and Yamato, hehe. Or... I will stick with my plan and keep traveling around the world.”
Taichi was quiet. Thinking of Sora’s message. Of what Daisuke had just said there.
“Y’know, I’m thankful for the digimon and all the adventures we had together. But... It won’t last forever.”
The older boy felt something. He was now staring at the bowl and had not started to eat. Since when Daisuke became older and wise? No, was he...
“You’re all a grown up now, huh?” he masked that confusion with a joke. He ruffled Daisuke’s hair just like the old days.
“H-hey hey, I’m not a little kid anymore ok?” Daisuke chuckled “Also, I’ve got all those lessons from the best man in the world.”
“Oh? Who is? Joe?”
“Yes, Joe-- No I meant you!”
“And I learned from Joe. Okay I also learned from Yamato and Sora but--”
“... You didn’t start eating yet?” now the boy glanced at the bowl “Are you okay?”
Taichi avoided looking at Daisuke.
“Taichi, is it something I said?”
“About nothing lasting forever?” Taichi blinked “No, no. You’re right. We all saw it coming. One day those fights might stop. One day our group will be apart... Again.”
“Sigh, you didn’t get it... right?”
“Huh?”
“I meant our role as the Chosen Children, not our friendship with each other or with our partners. One day we will become part of the past, and some new generation will born to protect this world.”
“A-ah... I see” No, he was playing dumb. Of course Taichi got it.
“Then... We will be here to guide them just like you guided me” Daisuke smiled “Because you and me are now someone’s senior got it?”
Taichi nodded.
“Now now, eat it! Stop refusing the delicious taste of this bowl. For Agumon’s sake Taichi, you’re missing it out!”
Then Taichi smiled back.

[fanfic] Crafted For Command:  Chapter 1
“Wake up.”
Daisuke didn’t want to, but his eyes opened anyway and he blinked, absolutely lost on where he was. Where had he been?
Right. The Digital World. Fighting the Kaiser. Then something had sorta blown up near him and everything turned red, then black, and now he was… he was…
Apparently in a very deep pit of trouble.
Kaiser stood in front of him, hands on his hips, whip hanging off of his belt, a smirk on his lips that Daisuke hated the sight of right away.
“That’s a good boy,” Kaiser praised and Daisuke wondered why in the world he liked the sound of that when he hated the Kaiser so very much.
Daisuke drew breath to demand to know what was going on, where he was, and what the Kaiser thought he was doing. He couldn’t get a single word out before Kaiser pressed a gloved finger against his lips.
“Be quiet. You weren’t given permission to speak.”
What’s that got to do with it? Daisuke wanted to ask but it was as if his voice no longer worked. He checked himself over as quickly as he could. No Ring. No Spiral. Did those work on humans? If they did, Kaiser hadn’t ever tried it before. And since he couldn’t find one now, even if they did, that wasn’t what was going on now.
Kaiser’s finger remained where it was, but now he tapped it on Daisuke’s lips.
“I know that you’re confused and have questions. I’ll tell you what you need to know. I’ve learned something very interesting about you, Motomiya Daisuke, and I want to make certain that it’s true.”
Confused didn’t even begin to cover everything. He jerked his head around again, pulling it away from the Kaiser’s touch, trying to find V-mon and his friends. He came up with nothing.
Was he the only one who’d been caught? That didn’t look good in the slightest.
Kaiser cleared his throat and Daisuke turned back to him as if his head were on a string.
“I want you to pay attention to me and only me. There’s no one else around for you to listen to anyway. I’m the only one allowed access to this room. Not even Wormmon can come in.” He cupped the side of Daisuke’s face with one hand. “It’s just you and me, Daisuke.”
If Daisuke could’ve spoken – and his voice remained oddly frozen – he would’ve declared how much he hated that fact. All he could do was stare at the Kaiser, though, and let his eyes do the talking.
“Are you aware that not all of your Chosen friends are as human as they appear?”
Daisuke blinked, tilting his head. Then he shook it carefully, since Kaiser seemed to be expecting an answer. He’d never heard of anything like that. He wasn’t going to believe it just on the Kaiser’s say-so, either.
A gesture and a screen appeared behind Kaiser, where Daisuke could see it. “Watch and learn, then. I’ve gathered some very interesting information.”
The screen flickered, then resolved into an image of Taichi and Yamato lounging together by a river. Daisuke didn’t recognize it, but he also spied Gabumon and Agumon with them, so it was probably somewhere in the Digital World. He wasn’t sure of what they were doing nor could he hear them, but Yamato raised up one hand and if Daisuke could’ve rubbed his eyes he would have.
Because as far as he knew, people’s hands didn’t just burst into flames like that. They should’ve jumped and screamed and done… something. Instead of Yamato trailing one hand in the air, a bit of fire following behind, and Taichi smiling.
The scene shifted over to Sora, and this time he recognized where she was: the area that Birdramon patrolled. Only now they were patrolling it together, which wasn’t so unusual. The older Chosen visited their partners whenever they could, usually when the younger ones kept the Kaiser distracted.
Only he’d never, ever seen Sora-san flying while she was in the Digital World, and doing it as easily as if she did it every day of her life.
Again the scene shifted and this time it showed Koushirou-san, chatting with a powerful lion-like Digimon, in a place that Daisuke didn’t recognize, but it had a lot of baby Digimon there. Then the two of them turned to what looked like a row of targets, set up out of range of the babies, and the lion Digimon raised up one fist, blasting his attack, Fist of the Beast-King, toward one of them.
That wasn’t so unusual either. This time, what set it apart was that Koushirou did a version of the same attack, red-gold flames incinerating one of the targets, and the lion Digimon nodded, resting one hand in pride on Koushirou’s shoulder.
Last and not at all least, he saw Jou-san. He looked like he was just in his room, or a place Daisuke guessed was his room. Underneath his table there rested a small refrigerator, but instead of pulling out a soda of some kind, there was a vial in Jou’s hand when he stood back up, one neatly labeled.
The screen moved in on it and Daisuke had time to read it before it changed. Understanding it took a few moments longer.
Blood?? He’s drinking blood?
He wanted to shake his head even more. This didn’t seem like anything at all he wanted to believe about any of his friends.
Why wouldn’t they tell us? I mean, I can get not telling us here, because of the Kaiser, but why not at home? He would’ve asked all of that out loud if he’d been able to. Then the Kaiser touched him again.
“They are part Digimon, part human. I’ve taken samples from all of you to determine precisely their lineage and their types. I can instruct you in that another time: when you’ve learned your place properly.” He smiled and that drove at least some of the worry and confusion out of Daisuke. “But let me continue. Not only are they of Digimon breeding, but so are you.”
Daisuke blinked again. Then he shook his head, far more furiously than before. He didn’t care what the Kaiser had in mind. Those images were probably faked anyway. He knew who he was. He knew who he wasn’t.
But the Kaiser wasn’t going to let it drop that easily. “What I learned from the scans of you I’ve done turned out to be very useful. You’re special, Motomiya Daisuke. More so than any of the rest of them.”
His hand rested again on Daisuke’s cheek, then slid downward to cup his chin, turning his head so that Daisuke looked right at him.
“You won’t believe what I’ve learned if I told you. So I will demonstrate instead. This will take time. Days. Perhaps even weeks. I doubt any longer than that. You’re not that stubborn.”
Daisuke determined that he would be, no matter what. Perhaps that showed in his eyes, since the Kaiser chuckled.
“These are my orders, which you will obey.”
No sooner did he speak, than Daisuke noticed something strange about his voice. Stronger, deeper, commanding. Everything in Daisuke urged him to listen and to obey.
“You will only leave the fortress if I not only grant you permission, but have you on my leash. Leaving otherwise is not an option.”
Kaiser’s hand moved downward from Daisuke’s chin to rest on his chest. Daisuke’s heart beat faster at the touch. He told himself it was because he was furious. He wasn’t sure of how convincing he was.
“You’ll speak only when I ask you a question or give you an order. When you do speak, you’ll be respectful of me. No insults. No trying to get around your orders.” His hand moved again, splayed now across Daisuke’s stomach. “You will only go to places in the fortress or out of it that I order you to go to. I won’t have you roaming around unleashed.”
He moved his hand away from Daisuke, who at once told himself that he didn’t miss the contact.
He knew he lied on that one right away.
“Do you understand your orders?”
Of course I understood what you said! What makes you think I’m going to do what you want?
What came out of his mouth was a single word. “Yes.”
Kaiser smiled. “When you address me, you will call me master. Now, do you understand your orders?”
Part of Daisuke, the part he was most familiar with, ached to scream and resist. The rest of him, a part that he’d never even known existed and wasn’t sure why it was making itself known now, luxuriated in the thought of orders and control and being ruled.
“Yes, master.” He even sounded like himself to his own ears, only he wasn’t saying what he wanted to say!
Kaiser fisted his hand in Daisuke’s shirt and pulled them closer together. Only now did Daisuke realize that he hadn’t been restrained at all this whole time. He’d been too surprised and far too confused to even notice until now.
And now Kaiser’s actions spun every other thought out of his mind.
He gave no orders. He demanded everything.
Kaiser’s lips landed on Daisuke’s and kissed hungrily, as if Daisuke held the very breath of life within him.

-o-o-o-o-o-
Taichi Yagami sighed deeply as he made his way out of the office building he spent at least eight hours a day in. He had a boring nine-to-overwork job, and, whenever he was free, his boring friends never wanted to do anything fun.
With a yawn, he joined the mass of people walking down Tokyo’s busy street. They were all eager to get home to their loved ones. Taichi, at 30, was boringly single.
Taichi turned right, onto a less crowded street. He inspected the faces of the other pedestrians, since now he could actually make out individuals. They all looked more-or-less alike. No one paid anyone else any heed; everyone just minding their own business. It was a bit boring.
“Hey, sorry?” Came a voice from Taichi’s left.
Taichi turned, coming face-to-face with a pale, blond man, about his height. Taichi blinked at him a few times. He seemed to glow in an ethereal way.
The stranger shifted from one foot to the other, nervous. “I just wanted to ask if it hurt when you fell.”
Taichi continued to stare.
The blond man looked even more uncomfortable, avoiding Taichi’s eyes. “From Heaven, I mean. Because it kind of hurt when I did, and I thought that maybe I did it wrong…” His blue eyes met Taichi’s brown from under blond strands.
“W-what?”
The blond’s face was expectant. He glanced around at the people pushing past them.
“Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven? Because I think I bruised my ass falling.” To highlight his point, the blond rubbed lightly at his backside.
Taichi’s eyes were wide, mouth agape.
The stranger shifted to rub at his arm, eyes falling to the ground on Taichi’s right.
Taichi noted that he was wearing a white, long-sleeved button-up with tight-fitting, ripped blue jeans. The shirt was tucked in and sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Smart casual—contrasting Taichi’s business suit—but nothing otherworldly.
“You did fall, right?” The blond prompted, eyes again on Taichi.
“Um, no?” Taichi hedged.
Blue eyes widened, flying around their surroundings.
“Really?” When he received a nod as an answer, he placed a hand on his hip, the other running through his hair. “Shit.”
Taichi looked around, noting that the stranger was attracting attention from passersby. Not that it was surprising: blonds were rare in Japan.
“Listen,” Taichi turned back to the other man. “Um, if you need a place to stay or something, you can maybe come over to my place.” What was he saying? Inviting a weirdo into his home. Shut up, shut up, shut up! “You know, at least until you’ve figured out what to do.”
The blond smiled, and Taichi had to—maybe—go back and correct his earlier thought: there might actually be something otherworldly about him. Definitely not his clothes, though.
“Could I? Really? Because I think I just made a huge mistake—or a few, actually—and I need to figure out how to fix them…” He threw Taichi an inquisitive look.
“Uh, it’s not a problem for me if you stay.”
The blond’s eyes crinkled at the corners as his smile widened. “Thanks.”
The twenty minute walk to Taichi’s apartment complex was spent in silence. Taichi was trying to piece all the events of the past half an hour together. Was the blond serious about having fallen from Heaven? Or was it just a pickup line? (It had worked). But he had sounded so genuinely concerned…
Taichi glanced at the blond. The other man was inspecting his surroundings, inquisitive eyes flitting from one billboard to another.
With a definitive nod to himself, Taichi decided he was a foreigner. Maybe he had been drunk and was confused. Another glance at the blond. Okay, so maybe his clothes didn’t give any indication that he had spent last night—and all of today—drinking. Taichi frowned.
“Um.” Came the stranger’s voice again, shy and quiet. “I’m Yamato, by the way. I don’t think I caught your name…”
“Oh, right, Taichi. Taichi Yagami.”
Same Taichi Yagami that had stupidly walked past his apartment complex. He mumbled something incomprehensible, avoiding the blue eyes, and doubled back.
Upon entering the apartment, Taichi had to instruct Yamato to take off his shoes. Yep, definitely a foreigner.
Taichi pointed out the bathroom door on their immediate left. Then they made their way straight through the short, narrow hallway, and into the main living space. The kitchen and living room were separated by an island countertop. The bedroom was walled off from the living room.
Taichi got them cold drinks and invited Yamato to take a seat on his two-seater couch.
“So, where are you from?” Taichi asked, sipping his drink. He had opted for a chair, not comfortable sharing the couch with the stranger.
Yamato blinked a few times, caressing his glass. “Uh, Heaven?”
The phone rang, interrupting Taichi’s reply. He excused himself, got up, placed his drink on the coffee table, and walked over to answer the mobile in his briefcase.
“Hi mum.”
“Hi Taichi.” A younger voice replied.
“Oh, Hikari. Why are you calling from mum’s phone?”
“My battery’s dead. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I got the job, so I’ll be moving to Africa next month.” Blunt and to-the-point; it was the best approach with dropping a bomb this big on Taichi, and Hikari knew.
“Oh.” Taichi stood still, trying to process the information. His little sister was moving abroad, to another country. A dangerous country.
“Taichi?”
“Yeah, I’m here.”
“I’ll call you later, okay? After you’ve had time to process this.” She hung up.
Taichi stood still, holding his phone at his side, not knowing what to think.
Hikari had started working for a non-profit organisation right after graduation. She would be going to Africa—she hadn’t even said which country—to teach children to read. Admirable, but Africa could be dangerous, especially to someone as fragile and prone to illnesses as Hikari… Was Taichi exaggerating Hikari’s fragility? Maybe, but he was also worried about his sister contracting some deadly disease. Wasn’t Ebola a thing over there?
“Taichi?”
Said brunet turned around to face Yamato, whom had wandered into the hallway.
“Is everything alright?”
Taichi looked at the phone in his hand again, tossing it onto the small table on his left. He forced a smile onto his face.
“Yeah, it’s just a little family thing...”
“Oh.” Yamato looked genuinely interested. “It must be a nice feeling to care so much about someone. About family.”
Taichi was taken aback by the point of view. Yeah, it was nice to have family and other loved ones, but this situation wasn’t what he’d call ‘nice.’
Whilst Taichi was contemplating this, Yamato took a look around the small entrance hallway. It was bare except for the small table that housed a set of keys and the phone Taichi had just thrown on it. There were no pictures on the walls.
Shaking his head, Taichi smiled more genuinely at his guest. “Should we go back to the living room? There are a few more things I want to ask you…”
Yamato nodded, letting Taichi pass him and lead the way to the other room again. Both drinks were on the coffee table, sweating lightly.
“We’re not in France, are we?” Yamato asked, hesitantly, re-taking his seat on the couch.
Again, Taichi was baffled by what came out of the blond’s mouth.
“France? Why would we be in France?”
Yamato let out a sigh, casting his gaze outside the glass-windowed doors that led to a small balcony.
“That’s where I was supposed to go. I just received a message from the Travel Agency that I really screwed up, and they’ve fixed things on the French end, but they can’t help me here. Where are we?” The question was more of an afterthought, it seemed.
“Let me get this straight:” Taichi shifted on his chair, elbows leaning on his knees. “You’re an Angel from Heaven, you were supposed to go to France, but you ended up in Japan, landing on your ass?”
“Yes.”
Taichi dropped his head, covering his face with his hands.
“God help me.”
Yamato shifted uncomfortably, frowning. “Why would he do that?”
Taichi looked at Yamato from between his fingers. “There actually is a God?”
Yamato shrugged. “Yeah, of course there is. Why?”
“Why doesn’t he answer people’s prayers, then?”
The blond stared, blinking for a few seconds, before he let out a burst of laughter. “Oh, wow. Is that what Humans think? That God is supposed to answer your prayers?”
“Um, yes?”
“Really?” Yamato actually looked genuinely interested now. “What kinds of prayers?”
Taichi shifted in his seat, not wanting to look at the blond. “Well, I guess help with everyday things and magical healing of the severely sick. Sending you Angels down to Earth to protect us from bad things. Or something. I’m not too sure, actually, since we don’t really believe in God in Japan. But that’s what I know of the western belief system.”
A fine blond eyebrow rose. “You think we protect you?” Then his eyes widened. “You’re not expecting me to protect you, are you? Because—to be honest—I have no idea what I should be protecting you from, or how. I’ve never been to Earth before.”
As the talk progressed, Taichi was taking more interest in his guest, shifting closer to the edge of his seat. “What is your job or mission, then? Why are you here?”
“Well, from what we’ve learned at university, we have very similar societies. Ours is just in a different dimension.” He shrugged, reaching for his previously-untouched drink. He took a sip before continuing. “I’m on Earth because I wanted to come.”
Waving his hand frantically, Taichi moved to sit on the couch, next to Yamato. “Wait, wait, wait. Back up. What do you mean ‘society’ and ‘different dimension?’”
Yamato scooted a bit closer to his armrest, away from Taichi. “You never took courses on Angel Cultural Studies? Or whatever the equivalent here is.”
“Um…”
“You didn’t? Oh, well, I know plenty of Angels that also didn’t want to take any Human Cultural courses; it’s fine and I’m not saying it’s a bad thing.” He paused, chewing on his bottom lip lightly. “But haven’t any of your friends corrected your beliefs about us?”
“Uh…” Taichi grabbed his drink, chugging half of it down. He took his time setting the glass back on the table, eyes moving to his knees. “We don’t have anything like that at school or university…” He risked a glance from under his fringe. “Actually, a lot people in the world don’t even believe in Angels…”
Yamato’s face fell and Taichi felt his gut wrench.
“Oh.”
Taichi shifted, feeling sweat starting to trickle down his neck. He should really change out of his suit. For now, he just loosened his tie.
“I mean, I knew, but…” Yamato continued, rubbing at his arm again. “I guess it’s just kind of a shock, considering how much of my life I’ve dedicated to learning about Humans and how much I wanted to come here. Wanted to be part of your society.”
Taichi’s eyes snapped to Yamato, though the blond was looking off to the side, missing it.
“You keep saying that you wanted to come here.” Yamato’s eyes finally met his. “What does that mean, exactly?”
“Oh, well, I majored in Human Culture and just graduated. We have a choice of becoming teachers by going into further study, or coming to Earth to mingle with you lot and starting lives here.”
“But why? Isn’t Heaven like paradise? Why would you want to come here?”
Yamato cleared his throat—though it sounded more like he was covering up a chuckle. “I wanted to get a fresh start. Away from my family and m—anyway,” He cleared his throat again, for real this time. “I wanted to come here and maybe make some friends and find a job and settle down. Mingle with Humans. Have a life here.”
Yamato sounded so forlorn that Taichi smiled gently and reached out a hand to grab Yamato’s.
“That can all be done. In fact, you’ve already made a friend, right?”
Blue eyes stared, hopeful. “Really? We can be friends?”
“Yeah.” Taichi pulled his hand away, nodding enthusiastically. “I think we’re well on our way to becoming great friends!”
Yamato smiled, but it was fleeting. “I don’t know how to go about getting a job here, though. I had paperwork for France, but since I messed up…”
“Well find you work!” Taichi cheered, then he frowned. “What’s the deal with this France thing?’”
Yamato averted his eyes. “Oh, I was supposed to be sent to France to settle down. The Travel Agency takes care of paperwork and such, so that we can start new lives, pretending we’ve been on Earth all our lives. They provide all the housing and CVs and another Angel as a contact person.”
“Do you have another Angel to contact here?”
Yamato shrugged. “I don’t know; we’re not really supposed to expose our identity. The Angel I was supposed to be contacting looked like you, so I thought it was you. But since we’re not in France…”
Sensing that Yamato didn’t want to discuss the matter further, Taichi got up from the couch, stretching his arms above his head.
“I’m starving. What would you like for dinner? Mind you, I’m not a good cook, so I usually just eat simple or ready meals.” He looked towards his fridge, cringing. “Though I don’t think I have that much food… Maybe we should just have a snack and then go shopping. What do you say?” Taichi asked, smiling down at the blond.
Yamato returned the smile. “Shopping sounds fun. And don’t worry about cooking; I’m a pretty decent cook, so I can take care of that, whilst I’m imposing on you like this. And I can also clean.”
“You can cook?” Taichi looked intrigued, then waved a hand nonchalantly at Yamato. “And it’s not imposing, since I invited you.” Taichi walked to the fridge, opening the door. “Let’s see what we can find.”
“Oh, I don’t need anything right now. Please just eat and I’ll wait.”
Taichi threw a frown over his shoulder. “Are you sure? Because it’s really no problem.”
“I’m sure.”
“Alright, then.”
-o-
Half an hour later, the pair was walking through the doors of a local supermarket. Taichi grabbed a trolley, saying that they should put Yamato’s cooking skill to good use and buy lots of fresh ingredients.
“Hey, Yamato.” Taichi realised that it was the first time he’d used the Angel’s name. He liked it. “If you were supposed to go to France, how is it that you can speak and read Japanese? Put that down, it doesn’t taste good.”
“Oh,” Yamato answered, putting down the horseradish he had been inspecting. “Angels speak a universal language. We start losing the ability to speak other languages after a few weeks.”
“I see. Meat is this way.” Taichi pushed off to the right.
Yamato spent most of the shopping trip exploring the different foods on offer, commenting about how they differed from those in Heaven.
“Everything here looks just like in the textbooks!”
Taichi chuckled at the blond’s childishness, though he was careful of what he let Yamato say. Some of the other patrons were giving them weird looks.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying your first visit to Japan.” Taichi said, unnecessarily loudly.
Yamato gave him a confused look, but the other patrons smiled at the pair. One woman even stopped to compliment Yamato on his Japanese fluency.
“Sorry.” Taichi muttered, sticking himself close to Yamato’s side as they went through packets of meat. “But we don’t have a lot of Angels visiting…”
“Oh, right!” Yamato put a hand to his forehead. “First I miss France, landing on my ass, talk to the wrong guy, revealing I’m an Angel, and now this. I’m turning into such a klutz.”
Taichi laughed, slapping a hand onto Yamato’s shoulder. “That makes for a nice change; usually it’s me that’s the klutz.” He placed a few packets of meat into the trolley, pushing towards the checkout. Yamato tried to contain his excitement at seeing the checkout process he had learned about in textbooks played out in front of him. Right before his eyes.
The pair shared the groceries between themselves and started making their way home.
“So, can I ask more about God?”
“Sure.” Yamato shrugged.
“Who exactly is he, then, if he doesn’t listen to Humans’ prayers?”
“He’s like our Prime Minister, or President, or King, or Queen, or whatever main country person you have here.”
Taichi stopped, staring with his mouth agape. He really needed to stop standing on the streets, looking like an idiot.
“But he’s been the same person since the beginning of time, right? Wait, how old are you? In human years.”
Yamato gave Taichi an amused look, jerking his head to get Taichi moving again. “No, we elect a new God every six years. The same one can serve only three terms in a row. I’m 29 in Angel and Human years. Our life spans are about the same as Humans’ if we choose to join you on Earth. If we stay in Heaven, then we can live to be about twice what Humans can.”
Taichi entered the code to his apartment complex and held the door for Yamato to pass. Since they had groceries weighing in their hands, they boarded the lift, taking it up to the fourth floor.
“But Yamato…” Taichi led the way to the kitchen, starting to unpack his bags, Yamato following suit. “Why would you want to come to Earth if your lifespan will shorten? And what about your wings? You lost them, right?”
“Wings?” Yamato stopped trying to figure out where to put the canned goods. “What wings?”
“You mean Angels don’t have wings?!” Taichi slammed his hands on the table, staring wide-eyed at Yamato. He should really be getting used to his beliefs about Angels being wrong by now.
The blond edged away slightly, trying to contain his chuckles. “No, we don’t have wings.” Then he leaned forward, tilting slightly to the left, asking: “Is this really what Humans think of us?”
“Wait.” Taichi rolled his eyes, dashing to his room. He returned a minute later. “I just turned on my computer. I’ll show you pictures of how we imagine Angels.”
They finished putting all the items away, Taichi showing Yamato where everything was in his—now their—kitchen. Then they made their way to Taichi’s room—which, Taichi realised, he had to start calling their room.
“Uh, you’re okay sharing a bed, right? I don’t exactly have a spare and the couch is too small…”
Yamato cast a quick glance at the large double bed. Then his eyes returned to Taichi, whom had taken a seat at the computer.
“It’s fine. Your bed is big enough for two. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
“Nah,” Taichi waved the apology aside. “It’s not a problem at all. I actually really enjoy learning more about Angels and you.” He grinned at Yamato, who returned the grin.
“So these pictures?”
“Right.” Taichi signed in and double-clicked the browser open. “Here.”
On screen was a picture of a stereotypical Angel: beautiful young maiden in a white robe, with large, white wings.
Yamato moved closer to the screen, eyeing the picture for a second. Then he burst out laughing.
“Oh, man.” He wiped away a stray tear. “Sorry to disappoint you.” He looked at the picture again, giggling. “I’m really sorry if that’s what you were expecting.”
“To be fair, I wasn’t expecting an Angel at all. So it wasn’t really a disappointment.” Taichi, too took another look at the picture, then at Yamato. “Besides, I think I prefer you. And, like, the fact that Angels and Heaven are nothing like what I’ve thought. It’s more interesting this way.”
Yamato pulled away, a smile on his face. “I’m glad. Shall I get started on dinner?”
“Oh, yeah, please!”
Nodding, Yamato made his way out of the room, leaving Taichi to shut his computer down. The blond made his way to the kitchen, but stopped, biting his lower lip.
“What do you want for dinner?” Yamato asked, turning to Taichi, who had just entered the kitchen.
“Um,” Taichi walked over to the fridge, inspecting the meats they had bought. “We could have pork tonight. Haven’t had that in a while.” He pulled said packet of meat out, frowning as he walked to the chopping board, placing the meat down. “You know how to cook Human food, right?”
Yamato chuckled, looking around in search of something. “Yeah, we have vegetables and meat and rice in Heaven. Our vegetables and animals just look slightly different and are called different things. Do you have an apron I could use?”
“Apron? No, I don’t use one.”
“Oh.” Yamato looked down at his white shirt, frowning, but shrugged, pulling out the chopping board and knife.
“I just realised:” Taichi noted, watching Yamato pull out the accompanying vegetables. “You don’t have a change of clothes.”
Vegetables in hand, Yamato walked back to the kitchen counter, where he had left his chopping board. Taichi moved to stand further back, by the island countertop. Yamato’s sleeves were already rolled up, and since there was no apron to don, he got started.
“I can lend you some, but we should go buy you new ones tomorrow. I won’t have to go to work, so I can take you out shopping.”
Yamato’s hands stumbled with the carrots he was julienning. “That’s alright; I don’t want to impose so much. I would have had clothes, but they went to France.” He frowned at the cupboard in front of his face. “Makes me wonder what they did with the house and my things… Anyway, I should really start looking for work.”
“Nah,” Taichi waved a hand, brushing off Yamato’s worries. “You can start looking for work when I go back to my job on Monday. For now, I’ll look after you and buy you anything you need.”
Yamato blushed, moving onto the peppers. “That’s very kind of you. I’ll pay you b—”
“There’s really no need.” Taichi stepped up behind Yamato, looking over the blond’s shoulder. “You promised to cook and clean, so that’s enough.” He patted Yamato on the shoulder before moving to sit on the other side of the island on a stool.
The redness didn’t fade from Yamato’s face until dinner was over and he started on washing the dishes.

REVIEW: Digimon Adventure LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna Is the Perfect DigiDestined Send Off
It isn’t often I leave a Japanese cinema with people crying everywhere, with silence as we all marched down towards the exit, and I didn’t think Digimon Adventure LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna would be an anime film that did that, but here we are. The latest, and last, Digimon Adventure film – of the DigiDestined we’ve grown up with – opened in cinemas in Japan on February 21, and as someone that grew up watching Digimon on Cheez TV every morning in Australia, I was right there, on the first day, to watch it.
youtube
Set 5 years after the events of Digimon Adventure tri, the gang has started to grow up and become productive members of society. Taichi and Yamato have beers together at a Japanese bar while discussing what they’re going to do after university, Hikari and Takeru are facing their first year of university, Izumi is a CEO of his own tech business, Mimi is “spreading kawaii” across the world, and Sora is following in the footsteps of her family, and yet DigiDestined work still goes on. Digimon problems are still appearing in the world and the 01 kids are helping protect Tokyo.
I'm afraid if I say anymore, I feel like it’ll come as too much of a spoiler, as this film is great to go in blind with. But, let's just say the film uses the usual story of adults needing the help of the kids (well, not kids anymore) to save both the world and the Digital World.
Digimon Adventure LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna is an adult anime film, with adult themes, made for the Millenials who grew up with the franchise. Taichi has an ecchi stash, he and Yamato go drinking, Taichi works in a pachinko parlor. These are adult characters in an adult world, dealing with adult problems, with Digimon stuff on the side. Though, and I doubt I’m alone in thinking this, sometimes I’d be nice to not worry and maybe go back to my childhood and play Digimon World on the original PlayStation, so I can't blame these guys for not wanting to let go of their childhood.
But LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna isn’t about that: it is about growing up and letting go. For the characters, it’s hard to be a DigiDestined and still have a job – apparently saving the world doesn’t pay well. It’s not about them choosing what to focus on, it’s about them learning how to juggle both responsibilities without cracking. That is until those cracks appear. And not leaving a dry eye in the cinema.
From an animation standpoint, Digimon Adventure LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna is the perfect update to the animation from the original Digimon Adventure TV series. The pre-credits scene is a fight between Parrotmon in Nakano made me cry from nostalgia, with the help of the new rendition of ‘Brave Heart’ being used for the fight. The animation team at Yumeta Company, under the direction of Tomohisa Taguchi (Persona4 the Golden ANIMATION, Kino's Journey - the Beautiful World-) used the past series and films as reference for the Digimon evolutions, key design motifs (like the line-art for the characters inside a server-space, mimicking that of Our War Game), and scenes to envoke that sense of nostalgia, in a good way.
The film even references past background characters to create the sense of a continuing story and the global impact that Digimon have in this fictional world. The film felt like an evolution of the franchise, rather than the drastic overhaul that was Digimon Adventure tri.
As part of the updated animation, key scenes had a new white shadow effect on the characters rather than the usual black, giving off an interesting visual style that is wholly different from the original series or tri. LAST EVOLUTION Kizuna also isn’t afraid to change up the animation style for a cut to give more impact or emotion into a certain scene, for great effect (read: tears).
Each character also felt like an evolution of what we’ve seen in the past. Taichi and Yamato, while bickering, as usual, felt like really good friends bickering, then when they had to, getting on with what needs to be done, rather than child (or teenagers) fighting. Izumi, while being a CEO and head honcho of his own company, was still the Izzy we loved from those scenes in Our War Game. Even the 02 kids (again, adults!) get their own time to shine in the film, without making them feel like they were just tacked onto it to appease fans. Even the new characters, felt like they grew up in a world where Digimon existed, and have backstories that make you understand their motivations.
It’s safe to say, at least for me, this has been the best Digimon anime creation since the Mamoru Hosoda directed films. Each emotional beat was meticulously well crafted to not just be a great Digimon film, but a great film in general that helps re-introduce the characters to an audience who may have skipped over Digimon Adventure tri.
From the opening scene to the final frame, this anime film was a love letter to the Digimon Adventure franchise, and the perfect, yet depressing as hell, send off to the DigiDestined we’ve known for 20 years. It was nice to say goodbye.

Epilogue Celebration Day TEN: After Epilogue
Tumblr media
Oh boy how to talk about those...?? Ok ok I do have some concept ideas, but those would’ve been spoiler for @digimonadventuretimelines project ;w;
So I’m rambling a few non-plot-related ideas.
Daisuke keeps moving around the globe just like he used to do when he was an amateur chef. He takes his son with him most of the time, as for his wife I think we can keep her out of the post for now.
Taichi feels still troubled with job, but his son is now 11 years old and he feels bad for his dad, so he starts spending time with Hikaru who takes him for trips around the Digital World. Sometimes they video call Taichi to make sure Takao is safe. One day, Takao sneaks into the U.N. building with the help of his friends, just to surprise Taichi. Of course things goes a bit wrong and Hikari & Sora had to come pick Takao, Hikaru, Mirai and Yoshiya up before the group get caught by the security.
Atori, Reika and Mai spend time together, doing girly things. Mai assumes she finds boring girly things and then they start exploring art styles instead. sleepover party gets insane and Miyako has to tell them to please remember of the baby sleeping on the parents room with a very tired Ken.
Mitsuki liveblogs a digimon fight, makes Sora afraid of losing her nephew but Takeru assures her that Mitsuki is old enough to protect himself lol Takeru is one of the people watching and making Sora just “PLEASE Takeru for the sake of teacher Nishijima’s spirit, don’t enable him. Go send Angemon to help NOW!”
Old ramen night reunion with the 02 squad. They left Mai & Reika to take care of Toushin and the-very-reckless-kid Daiki. They didn’t set anything on fire because Reika was ultra serious on the job. The baby also is a troublemaker and all four had a bad time preventing that baby from getting hurt.
Old Taichi-Daisuke talk, this time them drinking and talking about life. They complain about Yamato and Ken not having free time for a drink but hey, Taichi got a break so let’s bring back the gay feelings Daisuke always had for Yagami Taichi.
The disappointment of the soccer trio (Taichi-Daisuke-Ken) when they learn their children aren’t into soccer so the three are petrified in the background while Takao, Daiki and Toushin talks about video-games. Taichi growls, “This new generation does not know how good is to play soccer...”
Koushiro praising how adorable AND genius is Mirai, when she improves her skills at building things and her being able to hack everything enough to make Miyako requests Koushiro to tell her to please don’t f--ck with her, Miyako’s, job.
The wild Motomiya-Ichijouji rivalry between Daisuke-Ken and Daiki-Toushin on several other categories, making Miyako and Mai just sigh “ugh those dumb men/boys”
Takeru telling the group’s children stories about the group’s adventures and Taichi plus Daisuke intervening with their own stories, all wrong and exaggerated. Yamato teases then by saying he did not remember nothing of those fights being beaten by Agumon and V-mon with just one punch. The digimon complains, Gabumon shrugs as response.
Want feels? The Twelve take time on the 8/1 celebrations to thank Oikawa and Nishijima for everything they had done for them all. That their sacrifices weren’t in vain and they hope to someday meet them again.
Sora teaches the kids how to bake a cake. Mike’s cake is very Mimi-ish, Daiki’s cake is a mess, the rest of the cakes are  either fine or terrible. Daisuke and Mimi also take part in the teaching as the judges. It’s a very fun scene.
Joe learns Jin is gay and that he has a huge crush on Mike. Joe hugs his son and supports him to confess his feelings for the boy of Jin’s life.
Boys day, all the boys of the Neo Chosen Children group gather to play video-games, and Toushin is a really showoff lol.
THE ICHIJOUJI-INOUE BABY’S FIRST WORDS!! And it wasn’t either Dad or Mom, it was “insect”!! Ken has a huge breakdown needing Miyako’s help to recover from it. Then, Miyako wonders where the baby heard that before...  Ah, Ken’s still a gamer hence why.
Yamato gives advice/opinions on Mai’s music since he is a former musician. He doesn’t like much of that music genre she loves to, but he’s happy that she’s so decided to become a professional someday. He likes to listen to her remixes on the car.
Mimi keeps supporting Mike and is glad when she hears that Jin had confessed his love for Mike. She jokes with Joe about their children making a cute couple, and Joe smiles, he agrees with Mimi.
Hikaru tries so so hard to make Mitsuki take the hints that he’s so much gay for Mitsuki, but the other doesn’t care about romance. HE CARES ABOUT OLD SCHOOL VIDEO-GAMES LOL.
Mitsuki: I want to make games. Mirai, Reika, Mai: I’m in Toushin: I want to play said games.
