Oh, the great maker of trauma for the beans that are part of Princess Luz Au, heed my query and answer me:
Did Luz get any big bad evil guy energy or skill from being raised by the waste of space previously known as Belos?
I mean as we all know Luz is a precious bean, but I think she deserves to be a little evil towards bad people, like I assume that Hunter is already planning how to murder (or worse) Amity's parents, even if he isn't fully aware of it/is in denial that he is planning the horrors on the for making Amity, but I stay with me for a moment and imagine the verified cinnamon roll Luz Noceda Wittebane putting the fear of Titan into Odalia after learning that she abused Amity.
Also, her snapping out of it after Odalia faints out of fear (and pain), and panicking that she is just like below only for her parteners to be like, 'nooo~ it was hot normal and perfectly sane thing to do'.
this answer Might be disappointing in some ways, mainly: i don't Think luz would be physically violent with them without provocation, and i also don't think she's likely to lose emotional control around them. she'd want to be just as poised around amity's parents as she always was around belos and always is around the coven heads.
HOWEVER. as for the questions of "does luz know how to be scary" and "did she learn that from belos": UNEQUIVOCAL yes. to both.
i've been wanting to play with luz in this space with amity's parents for A While, actually, so. have a little fic :)
-
"Oh, Amity is my pride and joy," Odalia says, placing a hand over her heart. "I taught her everything she knows."
"Yes, I did get that impression." The Empress smiles, rising to her feet. "It's incredible how much she's accomplished in spite of you."
Odalia's breath catches around a shocked, bitten-down laugh. "Your Majesty, begging your pardon, I believe you meant 'because of-'"
"In spite of," Luz repeats, very firmly. "It's fortunate that Lilith Clawthorne has taken such an interest in her wellbeing."
Odalia's smile doesn't waver, but it does remain frozen for several seconds before she says, "I suppose Amity feels the need to invent an adversary. Some great trial she overcame to earn her place here. It's understandable. Children often lack the foundation to understand the sacrifices their parents make. She had a very privileged upbringing."
"Amity has never spoken unkindly of either of you," Luz says, although this she seems to mean more for Alador, whose face may give more away.
She steps lightly down the stairs from the throne, joining the pair of them on the ground. "Amity rarely speaks of either of you at all, actually. That isn't why I've called you here."
Odalia's voice turns cool, corporate. "Then how can we help you, Your Majesty?"
"Did you know that Blight Industries has a higher rate of workplace accidents than..." Luz slides a folder out of her tunic, flips it open, and raises her eyebrows. "...any other company on the Isles?"
This time, Odalia's laugh covers something else. "That's - that's preposterous. Our workplace safety records are excellent. Why, we haven't needed a single intervention by the Healing Coven in... oh, is it three years?" She taps the side of her mouth, frowning. "Four? Five?"
"That's fascinating," Luz says. "Not even for a scrape?"
"Abrasions heal quite well by themselves, given time."
"Absolutely fascinating," Luz repeats. "Did you know that it's illegal to purposefully deny people healing services?"
Odalia scoffs, incredulous. "For scrapes?"
"I know," Luz says pleasantly, "I was surprised, too. There are a lot of laws like that, it turns out. Text on paper that hasn't been enforced in half a century. From what I understand, this one is a holdover from early Empire anxieties. People were terribly worried about not having access to personal healing magic anymore. So healing services had to be protected."
Odalia's smile has become more teeth than pleasantry. "What a fun little history lesson. I'm sure you know all sorts of facts about the early Empire."
"It turns out that it's very easy to put laws in writing," Luz says, "without the intention to enforce them. My father, may the Titan bless him, had precious little interest in the rights of individuals to be seen by healers. But this isn't his Empire anymore. And I find the topic just captivating."
Odalia has stopped trying to hide her impatience, now. "So you'll fine us for not having healers on hand to wave away every little paper cut. That's fine. I apologize for the oversight. We'll settle up and make sure that going forward-"
"Mr. Blight," Luz says, ignoring Odalia entirely, "would you kindly remove your gloves for me?"
Alador startles.
Odalia doesn't glance at him. Her eyes are fixed unblinking on Luz. She speaks through her teeth, nearly a hiss. "Don't feel compelled to do that, dear."
"I assure you, I can compel him to do that," Luz says. Then, in a tone that would almost pass for apologetic if it wasn't so practiced, "I am sorry to compel it of you. I try not to compel my subjects very often. But if you find it difficult to remove your gloves, my scouts would be happy to assist you."
The scouts around the base of the throne don't move. Odalia's eyes slide uneasily over them anyway.
"That won't be necessary," Alador says, speaking for the first time. He pulls the gloves off without fanfare, holding up his hands.
Half of his left ring finger and pinky are conspicuously missing.
If Luz is uncomfortable with this revelation, she sure isn't showing it. "Oh, that's so interesting," she says, leaning forward to get a closer look. "The Healing Coven keeps meticulous records, and I'm certain a partial amputation was never reported to them. You were born with all five fingers, yes? I'm sure Amity will attest to that."
"This was from an accident in my personal lab," Alador says, with the mechanical precision of something rehearsed. "The severed digits were not... salvageable."
"It's so amazing that you were able to make that determination," Luz says, "without even needing to consult the Healing Coven. You must be a very proficient magician."
Alador blinks.
"Regardless," Odalia interrupts, "it happened outside of Blight Industries. The company isn't liable. You haven't 'gotten' us."
"Do you ever test Blight Industries products in your personal lab, Mr. Blight?"
"Prototypes," he says.
Odalia makes a sharp, exasperated gesture. "Alador!"
"That seems like company business to me," Luz says, still pleasant, still conversational. "Now, I will be fully transparent, before you accuse me of anything with regards to prejudice - it is true that I hate you both. It is true that I've hated you both for a while now. If you feel like I'm targeting you because I hate you, then you're very astute."
Odalia's fingers twitch, threatening to curl into fists.
Luz continues, "However, it's also true that there is no bias where my judgment is concerned. Not legally, anyway. So it doesn't matter whether I hate you or not. Whatever I decide to do with you is the Titan's will. Government is amazing."
Odalia exhales sharply.
When Luz doesn't waver, she shakes her head. For the first time, her voice cracks - properly cracks. There's a tiny tremble in her hands.
"Amity won't forgive you if anything happens to us," she says - but there's no bravado, no power, only pathetic uncertainty. "Regardless of any... petty grievances she may harbor. Family is everything to a Blight. She won't forgive this."
"I know that," Luz says. "I promise, I have no intention of doing Amity any unkindness. It's not her fault you two have chosen to be what you are."
Another sharp exhale. Odalia's breathing is ragged, audible. She's clearly not a woman accustomed to fearing for her own safety.
"That's fantastic news!" she chirps.
Luz's smile is beatific, magnanimous. The serene expression of someone who's never questioned the divine right of kings.
"Unfortunately, I'm not wholly opposed to doing an unkindness," she says, "if we can't seem to reach an agreement. It's really up to you how this goes."
She looks from Odalia to Alador and back, tilting her head.
"So. How badly do both of you want to live?"

Tag Team AU Synopsis – Agony of a Witch + Young Blood Old Souls
Synopsis Masterpost Link
Previous Part [Enchanting Grom Fright + Wing it Like Witches]
Next Part [Intermission: Yesterday's Lie]
Season finale, fellas. Season 1 was basically a build up to this moment and to the rest of season 2. I'm just really proud of this one.
Agony of a Witch
Lilith tries getting into the Owl House like canon, and fails pretty miserably like canon. BUT, in the aftermath when the dust has settled, Hunter flies in on Flapjack, enters the Owl House, and is seen by Lilith (who knows his face). Lilith connects the dots, and knows what she has to do in order to capture Eda.
Meanwhile, Hunter is getting ideas about officially leaving the Emperor’s Coven.
Tumblr media
He makes a plan to head back to the castle one last time, grabbing Luz, and getting the hell out of dodge. Also, Eda Magic Spaghetti setup for the witch’s wool cloak.
CUT TO THE EMPEROR’S CASTLE!!! Luz is leading the tour group! She sees Amity and it’s cute, she’s excited. Amity is So Guilty but also blushing.
At some point, Lilith comes in. Luz takes Kikimora’s place in canon by pointing her out, but she’s a lot nicer about it.
Tumblr media
Amity breaks off from the group at this point, and follows Lilith to the throne room. She sees Belos eat the palisman like Luz does in canon, and has a similar reaction. She runs back to the group.
Lilith reports to Belos.
Tumblr media
Cut to Hunter! Who changes into his GG uniform and is entering the castle.
Tumblr media
So, fight time. Hunter is very outnumbered, but he manages to take down most of the scouts.
Tumblr media
And then we cut back to Luz, who is waving away the students. Amity stays back to talk to her, when they’re interrupted by Kikimora.
Tumblr media
(Kiki’s line is a direct mirror to her summoning Luz in the comic, if u remember)
Cut to Luz walking onto the balcony. Belos is there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(There's some HELLA subtext going with Belos projecting onto Luz here, if that isn't clear. This version of Belos is more trusting with her because he's seen the parallels between them. This isn't just manipulation – he legitimately pities her and what she's going through)
Back to the fight! Hunter gets out of the bubble with Flapjack’s help.
Tumblr media
They have a little staff battle, but it ends with Lilith grabbing his staff and Hunter being thrown off the bridge.
Eda tries to save him, but it goes about as well as you’d expect.
Tumblr media
Owlbert catches Hunter.
Tumblr media
Hunter goes back to the Owl House, and finds out that Eda was going to give him the cloak.
Young Blood, Old Souls
For reference, this takes place a day or so after the last episode, like canon.
We open in the Throne room with Eda in owl beast mode. She is made lucid by Belos, the same as canon.
Tumblr media
Cut to Hunter on top of one of the coven carriages and with a bandana over his mouth (also new witch’s wool cloak). It rolls into the conformatorium while coven scouts are milling around. When it goes into the cell area, he drops down and starts kicking ass. Infiltration time.
Cut to Eda! She’s in her chains when the door to her cell opens, and Luz is there, face covered in shadow. Eda jokingly asks if there’s a way Luz could get Eda out of there, when Luz comes into the light, maskless, and cries. She tells her she can’t get her out, and that she’s sorry she put her in this position. If she didn’t make the deal with her, she wouldn’t be caught.
Eda doesn’t care about that, though. What she does care about is that she’s looking at Camila’s lost daughter. She takes out the portal key and gives it to Luz, saying that if she’s going to bite the dust, she can’t think of anyone who deserves it more than a human.
The cage goes up around Eda, and she is brought up to the Petrification Ceremony. Luz presses the button on the key, and the portal is summoned. She looks up where Eda disappeared, and goes through the portal, leaving an empty room.
Lilith walks in a second later.
Tumblr media
Lilith brings Hunter to the elevator platform, when they’re ambushed by Belos.
Tumblr media
Belos tells him the whole deal: He tells Hunter that he would typically kill the grimwalkers who overstep this far, but his priorities have changed. Mainly, to Luz. He just wants to keep her safe, and Hunter has been doing such a good job of that already – not to mention Luz might be upset if Hunter is killed. He can overlook the slights of the past few months if Hunter goes back to the way things were. They can go back to being a family again.
Hunter shoots back with what he has learned from being at the Owl House – that Belos has been faking his “outbursts” and could control them this whole time, that their “family” is incredibly unsafe. Remix of the “You know what I’d like, Belos?” sequence in Thanks to Them. Basically, he tells Belos that he wants nothing to do with him, and he’s taking Luz and leaving.
Belos is disappointed, but not surprised. He goes to attack and finish Hunter off, but Hunter manages to dodge it using Flapjack, releases all the glyphs he has to distract Belos, and flies up.
He gets up to the Petrification Platform, and he uses glyphs to destroy the statue and get Eda and Lilith out. They fly away to the Owl House. When they land, Hooty and King rush out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that’s the end of season 1!

How about a Dadrius au (or maybe it’s canon you never know) where Darius gets disgusted with everyone and everything.
Except Hunter
Once upon a time Hunter would have brought him the same disgust anyone else would have, whether he was coughing without his elbow to his mouth, or he peed on the floor as a toddler.
But eventually Hunter becomes his kid, and anyone else could even sneeze and he’s gagging, but Hunter could vomit all over himself and Darius simply doesn’t care
Honestly, sort of canon.
Darius strikes me as the kind of person who genuinely has an awful time with stuff like that, so it might seem to people like he's being dramatic but he really can't stand it, and others might think that he's being exaggerated but if someone is going to protect his peace of mind and peace in general, it's going to be himself, that's fine.
He's deep down very much a softie though, and his levels of tolerance do waver a bit when it comes to his loved ones; does he snap and grumble at Eber for leaving mud all over his clothes and sitting on his couch when there are sticks and leaves stuck on his fur? He does. Does he actually get that angry at them or tells them to not come back? Absolutely not. Eber is an eternal annoyance and also his sibling, so for better or for worse, he's tolerating that and only sighing heavily about it instead of acting genuinelly callous about it.
Getting Hunter as a baby is... sure an adjustment. I'm imagining he would have gotten him in some pressing circumstances, like one of those "oh, I cannot leave this kid with someone like Belos" scenarios, so he kinda didn't have other options and he couldn't exactly give up for adoption the Emperor's kidnapped nephew, could he? So he reluctantly had to care for him and while he got endeared to him quite fast, he simply wasn't a fan of the more messy aspects of parenthood.
He endured though because what else was he supposed to do? Eber helped him out, of course, but it wasn't fair to ask them to do all the messy stuff and Darius isn't a jerk like that anyway.
It's either his dad™️ pink-tinted glasses or that he simply got used to it because of how much he had to deal with it but eventually he managed to take proper care of Hunter without feeling like he was genuinely going to die a little bit having to clean up messes. Especially because he probably tried to get the job done from afar via abominations at first but Hunter was a little kid, he cried having his parent that far away when he was uncomfortable, and Darius isn't heartless, he couldn't just not get closer to soothe him.
The price of having a kid that you started to adore against your will.
When people see him being completely normal in public even when Hunter accidentally sneezes over him or something, they think Darius is awfully rude because they saw him recoil from someone coughing like two minutes ago, he's just being a bit of an asshole on purpose, isn't he? Darius doesn't care that much though, he doesn't have to explain himself to anyone and if he doesn't mind his kid and his kid only having that kind of natural body reactions that are otherwise VERY gross, then that's his own business, they all can busy themselves with their own affairs while Darius gets a handkerchief to meticulously help his kid clean his face of snot.

Okay so obviously one of the stupidest funniest things about the Pregnant Belos AU is how Belos truly is stuck in this social and political nightmare just as much as Hunter and Jasper are, but like, the more I think about it the more ridiculous it gets.
Like sure, okay, Hunter never wants to be successfully "rescued", obviously. Jasper never wants Hunter to be successfully "rescued", even more obviously.
BELOS ALSO DOES NOT WANT HUNTER TO BE SUCCESSFULLY "RESCUED".
The stupid Belos-Jasper stalemate cold war ONLY WORKS because neither of them makes a move against each other. They're both hoping to keep this rickety peace that they've never even negotiated with each other and they're constantly hoping that the other one won't escalate the situation. Belos decides the effort to take down Jasper isn't worth it unless Jasper is actively working against him, and Belos is well aware that if Hunter gets "rescued" there is a 100% guarantee that Jasper will immediately actively work against him by making him dead.
So like. Belos is ALSO sabotaging the Coven Heads' attempts to rescue Hunter, is what I'm getting at here.
Like, Lilith excitedly outlines her newest Grand Plan to save Hunter and capture Eda, and Belos nods and immediately has a meeting with Terra where he drops hints about what Lilith is up to and Terra uses this information to go crash Lilith's mission and try and grab the glory for herself and that's how the two of them end up getting regurgitated by Hooty a mile away from the Owl House.
Belos has been scheming and plotting and manipulating for centuries, but Hunter is a big blank bubble of DO NOT TOUCH in the middle of his plans because Belos knows the second that kid is in his grasp, everything he's worked for goes to shit. So he's constantly trying to keep track of all his Coven Heads' and other officials' Super Secret Prince-Rescuing Master Plans and strategizing who is best to pit against who to make sure no one makes any progress in this whatsoever. It's absolutely galling because the Day of Unity is SO CLOSE and he REALLY should be focusing on preparations and coven recruitment so he can effectively murder these people, but nooOOOOooo, everyone's obsessed with his undercooked Grimwalker and he has to make sure the little brat NEVER ends up in the castle, because even IF Belos survives Jasper, his miserable excuse for a government probably would not, and he does NOT want to spend another few centuries starting this whole plan over from scratch, and also this is the last eclipse the Boiling Isles will see for DECADES, he CAN'T mess up this timeline and if he needs to spend any longer in this hellhole than absolutely necessary he's going to go insane.
So here he is zoning out in meetings, doing mental math on who is capable of beating who without beating them so hard that they end up dead and Belos has to find a new Coven Head, because that's ANOTHER thing he can't afford to mess up right now.
He wakes up one morning to find Perry Porter on the CB reporting on a disasterous overnight secret mission at the Owl House led by Kikimora and Belos just stares in horror because HOW did he not know KIKIMORA was planning this?? She actually managed to take them by surprise? Oh god, how close did he just come to Jasper-induced death? He watches the footage of Hooty eating scouts while Eda uses Owlbert to smack Kikimora away like a baseball and is just thankful that his enemies are competent enough to not let their little brat get captured.
And like, idk how much Jasper is gonna suss out, but he's not stupid and at the very least he'll realize that hm, okay, Belos isn't coming after us as hard as I know he could. He doesn't know the specific criteria in Belos's head that will make going after Jasper worth it, but clearly the current state of affairs means it's NOT worth it, so Jasper will just stay the course and keep it that way. He still thinks Belos might be doing all this for the greater good anyway, so it's no skin off his back to keep the emperor's secrets and not join a rebellion and ignore Raine everytime they try to pry information out of him.
The Boiling Isles equivalent of Dr. Phil is constantly trying to invite the Emperor and the Golden Guard onto his CB show to talk through their issues for the good of his ratings the empire, and every time Belos and Jasper burn the invite and pray that the other one is doing the exact same thing.
The Collector doesn't get it. Belos tries to explain the situation without getting overly frustrated and the Collector's just like "This sounds like a really stupid game" and Belos is just like "IT IS THE STUPIDEST GAME" and the Collector's like "I think I can see why everyone's playing it though, you're super mad all the time and it's HILARIOUS."
Belos and Jasper are just stuck in a really weird edition of the Prisoner's Dilemma and are doing their best to keep it that way.
Then Hunter is successfully "rescued" just before the Day of Unity and Belos stares at the kid in absolute horror that he manages to disguise as parental shock and relief. He frantically wonders if there's some way he can turn the boy loose, but no, the scouts are seriously upping security around the newly-rescued prince. Fuck. Maybe he can manipulate Luz again, get her to come re-kidnap the prince, it shouldn't be hard to convince her she has to stop the dastardly plans he doesn't have for Hunter, and Belos will give her the entry codes to the castle vaults and everything. (PFFFT what if Hollow Mind in this AU is literally just Belos dragging Luz around his mindscape like "Yes, yes, I'm Philip Wittebane, get over it, listen, I need you to kidnap Hunter.")
At some point he's desperate enough to stare at his scroll and consider sending Jasper a text message like I swear I didn't mean to capture your kid, it just kinda happened, he's fine, please don't kill me?
Caleb Wittebane's Hallucination Ghost somehow got ahold of Ghost Popcorn and it is NOT HELPING.
Like he is close, he is SO CLOSE to cleansing this perdition, he just needs to stave Jasper off a liiiiiiittle longer, he just needs to hold it together until he can get the draining spell started and then he'll never need to worry about Jasper again.
In the days before the eclipse, he downloads one of those dumb Countdown To The Day Of Unity! apps and obsessively checks it every hour.
ITS SO FUNNYYYYYY
Like the stand off... I think jasper is also on the same page that like. Jasper is powerful and he has a staff and he knows the damage he can do. And maybe he can't kill Belos. He isn't sure. But he can expose a LOT of dangerous secrets. He can kill a lot of people. He can REALLY fuck him over. But he doesn't want to because that could be bad. He could definitely die. Hunter could get killed. Not worth it. And also, jasper believes that even if Belos is A Monster. He still is trying to save the Titan from dying and he's the only one who can. So he doesn't WANT to fuck that up.
Neither of them want to fight because it's going to cause so much damage to everything they'd be fighting over. both of them would prefer no confrontation. And as long as no one starts anything... No one has to finish anything. It's just.... So funny.
The idea of Belos texting jasper "please come take him back and go home I don't want him" is so fucking funny. I suppose it's more realistic that at that point he's going to be holding hunter at the TIGHTEST possible leash like. He has to literally have him at his side at all times. He can't sleep, he has to be holding a knife to hunters throat at ALL times to keep jasper from jumping into action. The second he looks away jasper is IN there fucking shit up. Maybe it's right before the day of unity and Belos has to be incredibly sleep deprived and paranoid carrying around an angsty antagonistic sixteen year old boy while a man people think impregnated him is stalking him waiting for an opportunity to Kill and still trying to get everything to come together and Also there's this fucking human girl here wrecking shit and Oh My God Everything Is Terrible

"Caleb"!AU
Okay so basically because Hunter canonically looks the closest to Caleb I used that as a basis to give him suffering. (I took some creative liberties with this au)
In this au our horrible boi Phillip isn't very good about not talking about his brother, and let's a few things slip to hunter VERY early on in his childhood (namely "I have a brother named Caleb" and "hes a witch kisser smh and i killed him but i kinda not really regret it")
This is also around the time belos starts getting impatient with hunters failures and decides to physically punish him (remember how bad belos punishments are) so what does Hunter do? Using both the fact that he realizes early on his uncle isn't a good person, but also the only person he has that "cares" about him, he acts like his dead brother. To avoid being brutally punished.
At first the action takes belos off guard and he feels far too guilty/conflicted with what he did to Caleb to go through with it. This causes a new relationship to form between them, even more toxic. Hunter uses the act of "Caleb" to both calm down his uncles curse, and to protect himself from brutal punishment, while belos continues to treat him like his dead brother and delude himself just to lessen what he refuses to see as guilt.
This creates a both the mask of Caleb, the Golden Guard, and just Hunter. I also took the creative liberty that nobody knows Hunter is a teen. He doesn't talk a lot because of the issues he has at home. He's still kinda bratty and like he is in canon, but it's not quickly seen by his quietness.
There's a lot of places I can choose to make this au go but I don't really know

I can’t wait to see Lilith discover that Luz came to live with her criminal sister.
She probably would have a stroke.
oh god i really have to figure out luz & lilith's relationship in this au.
like i WANT her to be cool aunt lilith still and have that fun dynamic. but that would require them to not have any history together which just. isn't feasible, considering that the chain of command went "belos > kikimora > lilith > golden guard > coven heads"
so luz would obviously be familiar (but maybe not friendly) with kikimora, and while she didn't meet all of the coven heads she was still known to/friendly with a few of em. and then obviously hunter knew her the best.
so luz HAD to have known lilith on some level. when she was little and had even less freedom around the castle, hunter would tell her about all the coven leaders. i know for a fact that like 10 year old hunter was AWED by lilith and probably would tell luz all these stories about her time in the emperor's coven and how powerful she was.
so luz would know lilith that way, but there's also no way they hadn't met before. BUT THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM ARISES: i dont know how lilith would feel about luz.
see, cus, lilith obviously hated hunter. because despite him being lower in the chain of command, he still had more authority and power over her because he was the "genius teen prodigy" which she absolutely resented (this is definitely partly because eda was seen as a prodigy by their parents but thats for another time)
but would lilith dislike luz for the same reasons??? luz isn't technically in the coven, but she has the authority to order people around. hunter & belos are sorta the only people who she cant command. she's given special privileges just for being the princess when she isn't even from this realm. she was just given one of the highest titles in the whole isles and she uses her power to... order scouts to retrieve the newest azura books for her.
but luz isn't snarky and smug like hunter is. she can be a handful, sure, but i just. even in lilith's Prime Bitch Phase, i can't see her disliking luz but its also so hard for me to imagine Head Of The Emperor's Coven Lilith Clawthorne regarding luz with anything but neutrality at best.
maybe lilith does the whole power-worshiping thing??? like she did with king??? but luz doesnt have any inherent power, not like king does. so she'd be respectful of luz's rank, at the very least.
but maybe it's LUZ who dislikes lilith after they meet, but only because lilith is an asshole to her brother most of the time and it sort of sours luz's view of her. but would luz being prickly to lilith be enough for lilith to not like her back???
god lilith is SUCH a complex and fascinating character. i have no idea what to do with her

Shadow Puppets AU - Philip and Magic
A while back i described my portrayal of Belos as a Wendigo as a blend of actual folklore and ToH whackiness, and I'm finally following up on explaining that whackiness since it ties so much into Philip's relationship with magic
-Philip's first experience with magic was actually Astrophel teaching him how to "perform miracles". Archivist magic is similar in a lot of ways to Titan magic but is distinguishable by presenting in cool colors like blues and purples. -Performing Archivist magic requires the user to have a 'sound mind and body' and can't be performed by someone who isn't taking care of themselves. -He didn't know what he was learning was Archivist magic and assumed that he couldn't do it without Astrophel, so when he went to the Demon Realm, he adapted by learning Glyph magic. -He became a Wendigo at age fifteen and tried carving the glyphs he learned into his arm attempting to break the curse. -This backfired and the glyphs instead broke down his body into a sludge-like state. He maintains his human shape through sheer force of will aided by the power he absorbs by eating Palismen. -Although the Palismen he consumes don't fight back against him in this au, the additional eyes across his body came from the Palismen. -The horns are something Belos did to himself subconsciously, ironically, by trying to cling to his humanity and the symbolism of the mask he had worn as a child, which was supposed to be a deer. -Without the above factors, Belos's true form would simple be an emancipated giant, just like the original folklore -Throughout most of Belos's crusade he wielded Archivist Magic with Astrophel reminding him to take care of himself so he could use it, but also created an artificial staff later in the war harvesting magical essences from around the isles. -As Belos's reign as Emperor continued his physical and mental health started to decline, but he hid it from Astrophel by relying more on the artificial magic and claiming that he'll start taking care of himself again once they achieve their endgame

Brother's Keeper AU:
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How did Caleb live so long? How can he still be here after 400 years?
A: Belos wanted him to stick around and so he made it happen. As for specifics: *shrugs* your guess is as good as mine! This is something I've preferred to leave up to the readers. I will simply confirm that he isn't hiding any goop powers or OP palisman-given magical abilities. He is, for all intents and purposes, a regular human who is somehow really, really old.
Q: If Caleb is still alive, where did Hunter come from?
A: The full story here hasn't been told yet, but you may notice Caleb is missing quite a few bones...
Q: Caleb's ears are pointed! Did Belos cut them??
A: Correct
Q: Does Caleb know about the Collector/the basilisks/Belos' plans?
A: Probably! He's been Belos' sounding board for 400 years. Access to things that could "further corrupt him" or provide him a tool for escape, however, are off limits, so there are many things, like the Collector, that he's heard about but never seen for himself.
Q: Where's Flapjack/Amity/Darius/etc?
A: This is basically a canon divergence. If you haven't seen a particular character, it's safe to assume for now that they're up to whatever they were doing in canon.
Q: I don't get it. Why is Caleb insane?
A: I suggest you reread the first few story posts, my friend! You have fallen for Belos' lies.
Q: Do you have a posting schedule? When will the next part come out?
A: There is no posting schedule. I draw (mostly but not always) traditionally in my free time, for the fun of telling a cool story, and some posts are longer than others. That means the timing of the next post depends on how long it is, how much time I have, and whether or not I'm at home with access to my scanner. Sometimes this means I post quickly. Sometimes it means you'll see me next month. Sorry about that.
Just know that if I know there's going to be an extended wait, especially one where I'm not actively working on the next drawing, I will make an announcement about it. If you haven't seen an update in a while but I also haven't said anything, it's almost definitely because I'm actively chipping away at a part of the story that's taking me longer.
Q: Why do some of the story posts have a letter after the number? Are these less important than the regular story posts? Can I skip them?
A: No, I Do Not Recommend skipping them! They are just as important as the others. They have a letter on the end because they were added later and I use letters as a way to avoid renumbering everything. If you see story posts labeled something like "3, 3A, 4", they are meant to be read the same as you would if they were "3, 4, 5".
Q: Can I make art/fic/cosplay of this au?
A: Knock yourself out! If you post it somewhere, please include credit, but otherwise I don't mind, and actually love seeing what you do with it! If it's NSFW though, please keep it in appropriate spaces with proper warnings.
Q: Wait there's fic/fanart?? Can I see?
A: If you look through the tag on my blog "BK fridge gallery" you can browse any content shared with me that I've reblogged. :) People are free not to share it with me too though, and there are some I don't reblog, especially if its gorey or suggestive, so you might be able to find a bit more elsewhere under the Brother's Keeper AU name if you look for it.
You may also notice I have a featured tag called "BK Soundtrack." That's for songs that people have suggested to go with the AU. You are welcome to browse or suggest songs of your own ;)
Q: :( I sent an ask but you didn't answer. Did you get it?
A: Probably, yes. Sometimes it takes me a few days to get to it. However, if it was theorizing about future plot points, I may actually be holding onto it with plans to answer at a more appropriate time. I like to keep many of my plans for the story close to the chest, so don't be surprised if your theory ask disappears only to show up many months later when the story has progressed to a point where I can give you a more in depth answer.

fuck yes worldbuilding for the Huntlow Neverland AU. FUCK yes. love everybody's deals they're so interesting. question: what's the deal with Hunter and Belos? and do you have any backstory ideas for Willow beyond her history with Amity (which i love)? it's interesting that her main friends seem to all NOT be fairies
I dont really know about Belos I don't care about him all that much. What I imagine is that he and Caleb visited Neverland as children. They were orphans and didn't have any other sanctuary besides each other but Neverland seemed like their safe haven. Caleb eventually met a wild and rowdy Lost Boy named Evelyn and he decided that he wanted to return to the mainland with her and grow up. Philip was hurt that his brother wanted to leave the life they had made for themselves here but he reluctantly returned home with them. Real life adult problems commenced, years and years of tension and built up resentment on Philip's end, maybe he got really into religion (???) Caleb and Evelyn got pregnant out of wedlock (???) I dunno, blah blah blah blah stab.
Philip returns to Neverland to hide from his guilt (and the police) and relive his glory days but all it does is fuck up his sanity and now he hates this stupid fucking place with all his heart and soul. Its no longer his escapist fantasy from his boyhood. Its a vile abomination. Its Hell and he needs to destroy it somehow.
He and the Collector have a very weird relationship. It's not really as personally antagonistic as Peter Pan and Hook but rather, Belos is the "bad guy" in the Collector's games, which he obediently plays along with (keeps him alive). However, the Collector is very insistent that games be fair and so, he grants Belos' requests that he always have a Special Player on his team so his chances of winning are better. It makes the games more fun that way anyway.
And so, every few decades, the Collector returns to the mainland to bring Belos his Special Player. Upon his request, its always a baby or young boy that he steals from the nursery of the Wittebane family.
(A family which now believes themselves to be cursed because they so frequently have their children stolen in the night.)
The boys never last long. Belos isn't careful with his playthings and they often die before they even make it to manhood. Sad.
(Also. For reference. The subject of "growing up" on Neverland is kinda slippery. In some variations, Peter was actually the only one capable of remaining young forever, while Lost Boys aged and died all around him. In some variations, everybody who lives on Neverland remains in an ageless state. What we are gonna do in this case is make aging a state of mind. You grow old if you feel old. And honestly, most Neverland dwellers do as time passes. Except King and the Collector. Although, time is very weird here. Sometimes a few years in Neverland is just a few weeks back in the human world.)
As for Willow, I imagine her backstory BEGAN with the fight with Amity. But after that she became a lot more meek and less confident because she felt discarded and unloved. This made it very easy for other fairies (Boscha) to make her a bullying target. Willow is clumsy, Willow can't always control her magic, Willow isn't as fast at flying as Boscha, Willow is this and that and whatever.
Things are tense when Amity appears in Neverland and Willow does not want her there. And then she actually becomes kinda friendly with Boscha which hurts even more cuz Oh. So you don't hate fairies? It's just Willow you hate?? Huh. Good to know.
Her confidence begins to gradually build again after some time spent with Luz, Gus and eventually patching things up with Amity. And then Hunter comes along and he makes her feel like the most wonderful fairy in Neverland.

Saw the post about Luz just kinda, escaping through the vents when she needs some personal space at night.
Just imagining it was something she did as a kid a lot (before Belos found out and made her stop after a certain age, the specifics of that conversation not to be thought of well, all of the awfulness) because well, what adventurous young princess wouldn't explore the vents in her own castle.
Once Belos is gone she sometimes does it again when she's nervous or otherwise just needs to avoid people since who's going to stop her, and sometimes she does genuinely need to escape people, it being more frequent when Hunter isn't around to help her self regulate and she just needs to be away from people for a bit. Like a meeting ends and within seconds she's teleported with her staff into the vents. It feels safe and nice, even if it's a little dusty.
Furthering this Hunter knows this is going on, but he's still Hunter so he quietly has some trusted scouts actively making the vents quietly cleaner (all work being done when she's at Eda's and wont be disturbed by this force of vent janitors, who are mostly just going along with this since they think Hunter is slightly crazy and there's good overtime in it) just so it's all slightly more comfortable and fit for purpose.
Not that he thinks Luz will somehow crumble at the mere sight of dust in an airvent, but its an unspoken (but very much noticed and appreciates) thing he can do to make her more comfortable when she's struggling and he (or Amity) aren't around.
Naturally all the coven heads (aside from Raine) know is sometimes The Empress just appears and disappears at will in the castle.
THIS IS SO SWEET. WAHHH....
yeah i really like the idea of luz knowing her way around the castle vents. and it's something that hunter is privately grateful for, bc it means she has a lot of secret outs in terms of potential danger. and also, perhaps More Importantly, it means she has a place to disappear to that isn't Fuck Knows Where
it's been pretty firmly established but idr if i've ever properly used the term - luz in this AU (and arguably canon, but less textually there) is Very prone to autistic elopement. this being how she ended up in the isles in the first place & something she's never really stopped doing.
it's not conscious! hunter knows it isn't conscious and has never resented her for it. but he's been responsible for Looking After luz since he was way too young to be responsible for looking after luz & he Knows how far she can get if she's upset.
hunter having the vents semi-regularly cleaned is so cute. i'm sure he's neurotically attuned to luz's health and probably put together that she sneezes a lot more and gets a lot more head colds when she's in the vents a lot. hunter voice so help me you WILL dress warm and breathe clean air when you're in the hell ducts or so help me-

Have you made any new aus you want to talk about?
I'm never immune to actor aus for some reason I cannot explain for the life of me. But this is where I am, and I am in a death grip. The Owl House but it's live action acting and the actors have the weirdest connections to other people. Because this is MY silly little au and I make the rules here
Luz has mostly done theater and a small handful of musicals, but she has two film roles where she was a background/minor character. Bit of a jump to go from that to main character, but, hey, the original budget is pretty cheap. Most of the funding went into the magic. She's just happy to be here. May or may not have gotten a genuine crush on the girl she was already pre-scrpited to date.
Eda is where the rest of the funding went. Expensive ass actress quite well-known in the industry, has been acting since she was a little younger than Luz, most known for her roles of chaotic characters. She liked this role, but was mostly just here for the paycheck. Luz didn't have to act very hard to look excited with Eda during shooting, she was thrilled. Eda wound up enjoying her role a lot more than expected.
King is Eda's actual adopted kid, though he's roughly about ten, not eight or nine, and Eda found him at about ate 2-3 just. Roaming around some dumpsters. Technically speaking he doesn't legally exist, but that ain't about to stop her. He wasn't supposed to be on set, but while discussing people to voice act the puppet blended with animation that King is on the show, Eda jokingly asked her kid if he was interested, and turns out he was. He gets along well with Luz and the other younger kid actors.
Belos is acted by a guy just named Philip, who is also very well-known, and is the kind of actor all of your parents/grandparents seem to know, but you've barely heard of, or don't think twice about. He's usually been cast as one of those snooty, uptight academic characters, going from The Handsome Teacher(tm) to The Grouchy Guy(tm) from his earlier years to his current ones. He's used to dealing with teenage actors, but he likes to pretend he isn't. The kind of guy who can almost never get through the first take of pretty much any scene with Hunter without breaking character like "I can't--I'm sorry, we can do that again--are you okay? Are you sure--"
Hunter himself is the adopted older brother of Luz, and has been acting for far less time, since about 13. He's gotten a few school theater plays beforehand, plus a minor one in a short film, but that was about it until then. He skyrocketed VERY quickly because of his ability to act emotional scenes alarmingly well. All of his breakdowns on the show were difficult to get through because there was almost always a moment where someone on set was genuinely concerned something went wrong in the middle of the scene. This is partly why Philip breaks character more often than normal

Hello! I'm here on anon cause I'm shy. I just wanted to say I adooore your Bone of Ortet au (your belos design is A++, impeccable. And I love how you draw Hunter's ears, they look like cute bat ears). Just- the sheer amount of mental unwellness this au has caused me. I've filled a notes page of rambly thoughts for this au that I cannot fit in an ask. I love it so much. Also I wondered, would you mind if people wrote fic inspired by your au? I can't swear I'd finish anything, but I wanted to ask!
Hello there and thank you very much for your lovely words! i know i haven't touched owl house stuff in a long time but knowing that people still enjoy what I made fills me with endless joy. and yes if you want to write something, by all means! and please tag me or message me if anything gets made, i love to read it :D
If you want some more details for writing, my dms are open! i'm ashamed to admit the majority of AU story that I've written doesn't make it to tumblr - purely because I am forgetful when it comes to posting and also life is busy. But this story has come a long way since it started at "everything's the same but Belos isn't a deficit in good parenting skills"
honestly Ortet!Belos became such a different character that he probably qualifies as an OC now lmao. and the story changed with him - since he's also the main instigator of the action *plus* the protagonist of the Bone of Ortet story. but yeah definitely hit me up if you want more details! I'm more likely to respond to dms than asks because I forget about asks so easily it's frankly embarrassing. meanwhile, here's a wip of an old concept that I'm still obsessed with but haven't finished oops

SCOM WRITING NOTES:
The Sweet Child Universe has its own Coffee House AU!
Tumblr media
Maybe it is me being nostalgic for my barista days, but I really enjoy the headcanon that Hunter would take a job at Robin's Roast as a barista.
It is the type of work that is very task oriented and focused, but it provides small comforts for those you serve. Coffee is life.
I keep saying that this phase of SCOM is all about Hunter taking control of how his story is told by the public as Willow's due date closes in, and a whole new book of unwritten pages and experiences will be placed before him.
Tumblr media
If he's going to be stalked by the media, he is going to make sure he is doing things that make him happy and help heal the damage done by Belos that remains ten years later -- lest others try to re-write a part of that.
So, while the entire stint making specialty drinks with intricate foam art -- and some of the weird requests for his autograph -- exhausted Hunter greatly, he did enjoy just doing some menial tasks that made people happy and encouraged them to donate to a good cause.
Also, he got to see Willow chill and relish in her own accomplishments outside of his drama and her difficult pregnancy.
There's a bunch of personal stuff in here. It is February in SCOM universe. I recall really, desperately trying to cling to anything that could be ME outside of what was happening in my own body. Literally all anyone wanted to talk to me about was my pregnancy or how my size (4’11 with a tiny frame) and the fact that I was carrying twins meant I’d definitely be delivering early (I didn’t!) and how difficult having one newborn was and that the two would be too much for me. (It was nuts but I have no frame of reference for anything else.)
Willow isn’t having twins, but it is a high risk pregnancy. As we know, Hunter feels VERY responsible for the complications Willow is having, but he's determined to face whatever is needed with her! I recall work shopping this fic with a mutual and they mentioned that they'd seen fics where Willow gets pregnant and Hunter freaks and runs... and I just don't see him being like that?
As Loz AKA @probablyhuntersmom has noted in multiple Metas, "Family" and "Our Family" are keystone phrases for Hunter. He's got his found and chosen family now, and he's about to start one of his own. He's in it for the long haul, and though the fear that coming from abuse would perpetuate the cycle still lingers, there's a lot more there now.
Hunter knows he wants to be a loving father, but outside forces are shoehorning him into a narrative he's realizing FINALLY isn't fair, because his own story is much more complex, and by the Titan's will, he's going to knuckle down and stick by Willow no matter what. Because this is what he's always wanted.
Unfortunately there are some who have given into wild conspiracy theories that Hunter had something to do with the disappearance of this crazy biotch.

Okay I might be on to something, get ready for some vague what-ifs I've been pondering all evening.
So we haven't really delved into the runaway au's political scene much, but several things have been brought up that make for ingredients in what could be a very interesting pie:
Belos has built Will up as a super important and integral part of his regime.
Will actually has good self-esteem and has independantly come to the conclusion that there's something fishy going on here.
With an adult Golden Guard at Belos's side, the government is probably even stricter.
Will and Lilith probably don't like each other.
Open rebellion is super risky and we don't know what Raine's up to.
So starting with Belos and Will - Belos's manipulation tactic with Will is to basically butter him up. Oh, my Golden Guard is SO loyal and competent and brave, whatever would I do without him? And he has been doing this since Will was picked, and for an added bonus he probably hasn't even been beating Will to a bloody pulp for any perceived failures (it probably rankles Belos to hold back on a potential punching bag like that, but he still doesn't know what set Jasper off so he's being careful with this one). So right off the bat, Will has a good foundation of self-esteem for his developmental journey.
Now, Will could have gone a different route and become co-dependant on Belos. Belos is the one with the real authority and could take Will's power away whenever he wants, and that could have led to Will being blindly and exceedingly loyal. But we know from Lament that Will is curious, and he likes to experience things, and he pursues the truth. And dictatorships are always chock full of logical fallacies.
So it's probably a bunch of little things that slowly set off Will's alarm bells. Things that just…don't add up. Why do we do this instead of that? Why is this inefficient policy a thing? Why do I get the feeling that the cruelty is the point?
Maybe the palismen are a part of it - Will may not care for palismen personally, but he watches Belos eat one and thinks, there has GOT to be a better treatment for this curse that doesn't rely on such a limited resource, but Belos just flat-out refuses to hear it. He might not beat Will for bringing it up, but the fact that he shoots the idea down immediately is just…why would you NOT want to research other options? That's just stupid.
The entire situation with Jasper is another inconsistency. So this guy was the last Golden Guard, he's armed and highly dangerous, he has government secrets and may be plotting a coup, and he stole the Grimwalker that was supposed to replace him. A Grimwalker who was…a baby. Belos might brush it off like "He likely wanted to buy more time before I could send someone after him" but as Will hunts them down it becomes clear that Jasper still has the kid. Every time he questions people in a town Jasper passed through, they're like, "oh, yeah, that father and son, they were sweet, the spitting image of each other except for the scars." There is no strategic reason to kidnap and keep a baby that no one is going to pay a ransom for, in fact that is the opposite of a sound tactical decision, and yet Jasper did exactly that. Why??
He probably brings it up to Belos and is given the ol' "who can truly understand how wild magic corrupts us" non-answer, and Will is getting REAL TIRED of hearing that spiel.
Now, part of Belos's buttering up of Will is giving him governmental authority, and that could make things interesting. Hunter was technically a Coven Head, but everyone in the castle saw him as a child and a brat and didn't respect him. Jasper had military authority but wasn't a Coven Head, and the Coven Heads seemed to think they were above him. But Belos isn't going to allow anyone to play those games with this Golden Guard - he can't afford to lose Will to political pettiness, he isn't going to tolerate anyone trying to instigate anything. Will is also an adult, so he has that advantage over Hunter, and without the uncle/nephew connection no one's going to accuse him of being a nepo baby, though it is weird that he just came out of nowhere. But most importantly, the Emperor clearly favors this Golden Guard, and it's a sort of situation where the Coven Heads realize it's better to gain the Emperor's attention by working with the Golden Guard, rather than see him as competition to remove. The Golden Guard is the ticket to the Emperor's approval--even if they don't LIKE him, they aren't gonna undermine him.
That doesn't make the government any better or the coven system more efficient, of course. If anything Will is surrounded by ass-kissers and people who tolerate him, lol. But he doesn't have to worry about people trying to stab him in the back, usually. There's some actual, real working relationships going on there. His colleagues talk to him and ask for his input and pass him information and trade favors with him.
And then there's the comparisons to Jasper - not from Belos, but from everyone else. Oh, you're SO much more competent than the LAST Golden Guard. He was good at his job, but he upset the Emperor SO often, he had SO many curse-induced fits because of him. You've NEVER upset the Emperor THAT much! And you actually help out with governmental things, the last one couldn't be bothered! Also don't take this the wrong way but it's almost a relief you don't speak, the last two guards' voices were SO annoying.
And Will is just. Gathering intel here. Like. Huh. This Jasper guy made Belos so angry he'd have curse-induced fits? All the time? Jasper apparently had limited governmental authority. This is WEIRD.
Heck, maybe Darius unintentionally says something that tips Will off. Until little Hunter shows up on his doorstep, Darius is the same sad, bitter, miserable man he was at this point in canon, minus a child to bully. Will may not ever show his face, but Darius still feels like Jasper is being replaced and he doesn't like the new Golden Guard. Maybe he likes him even less than he liked canon!Hunter--it took 13 years for Hunter to become the Golden Guard, but here Jasper disappears and Will is taking his place a year or two later? Ouch. Darius would NOT be happy with that.
Darius maybe says something like "You ought to know that your predecessor's magic was far more impressive than yours, but all his hard work was hardly ever appreciated. You'd best not take the Emperor's favor for granted." And Will is just like. Okay. Jasper was a super-powerful witch and Belos didn't care about him much, but he claims to care about me a LOT. What the HELL was going on there??
Moving on - I posit that Will is highly competent at his job. And I don't just mean that in a super-cool ass-kicking Golden Guard way. I mean he has leadership skills out the wazoo, both in the field and in the office. In the field he does his best to minimize casualties, his briefings give his scouts clear goals, plans, and backup plans, he doesn't throw scouts over a cliff just cuz he's frustrated. In the office his managerial skills are top-knotch. He understands the powers of administration and delegation. He prioritizes communication and constructive criticism and recognizes hard work. He's the manager that someone tells you they have and you're immediately jealous because that guy is an AWESOME manager.
Belos gave Will power and responsibilities and he uses them wisely. The Emperor's Coven has never been as efficient as it is under this man. (He is so frustrated by how long it took to MAKE it that efficient. The coven is supposed to be the Emperor's fist, but Belos doesn't seem interested in doing what it takes to make sure said fist hits as hard as possible. Why are they all so sleep-deprived? Why do they only get one day off?? It took YEARS for Will to convince Belos to give them quarterly days off. It's like the guy WANTS them overworked and miserable.)
The coven scouts LOVE Will. He has their back and they're happy to have his.
Will doesn't like how Belos treats his coven scouts.
And then we have Lilith.
Now, after everything I've suggested, we COULD say that maybe Lilith doesn't mind Will. Maybe she'd want to foster a good relationship with him to build up her own favor with the Emperor. But this is Lilith, she's kind of full of herself and has been a Coven Head for a few years by the time Will shows up and she knows how Belos treated Jasper. Maybe she expects this Golden Guard to be the same, and she's too used to the castle's games, and she says one too many snide things and ends up on Will's bad side before she realizes the rules have changed. I don't think they'd be antagonistic towards each other, but they certainly don't LIKE each other much. Or she doesn't like him, and he's just decided to deal with her as little as possible.
It probably drives her crazy that he's ACTUALLY good at his job. Like, the Emperor favors him, and it's FOR GOOD REASON. UGH.
They still have a working relationship though, because she can grit her teeth and deal and Will is a consummate professional. She's told him everything she knows about Jasper for the sake of the investigation. She doesn't teach him how to teleport, though.
But the whole situation with Jasper is starting to form cracks under her feet. Jasper was loyal. She knows Jasper was loyal. Belos beat him bloody and tore up his face and Jasper just took it. He did everything Belos ever said, and oh, it was amusing to watch when he got in trouble, but she can't deny that Jasper was insanely good at his job and followed Belos's orders to the letter and was incredibly loyal until he suddenly wasn't.
And the moment he stopped being loyal, Belos immediately called for the death of his most trusted servant. Over a decade of service and dark deeds done in the Emperor's name, and it bought him zero leniency.
Eda has never been loyal to the Emperor. Eda has never cared for the empire. Eda has been an active criminal for decades. She breaks the law on a daily basis and flaunts it. She is very publicly vocal about how much she hates the system. She has done absolutely nothing to earn the Emperor's mercy, and if someone as loyal as Jasper can't even be granted that mercy, then how can Lilith trust that Belos will--
She'd be in denial for a long while, of course, but the cognitive dissonance is THERE. Heck, maybe Will is even the one to make it fully click in her head. She's talking to him about some upcoming mission to capture Eda, humble-bragging about how great it'll be to have her sister by her side in the coven, they'll be an unstoppable force and a valued asset to the Emperor--
And Will, who's getting fed up with how fishy everything in this castle is, just looks at her like. Wait, the Emperor's super strong at healing curses? Why hasn't he been able to heal his own? That would be way more efficient than inhaling palisman. Or he just snorts like yeah, sure, and Jasper's gonna be so happy I held down the fort for him while he was away on sabbatical.
And Lilith has to excuse herself and go to her room and pace a hole into the carpet because fuck. FUCK. She doesn't want this to be a lie, she NEEDS this to be real, but she can't deny that there are discrepancies that just. Aren't adding up.
She might not become a rebel. But she might become a bit less zealous about taking Eda in. Oh, she still ACTS committed to doing so, but her actual attempts don't have the same bite. She starts digging into things she may have ignored before - feeling out what Belos's agenda is, researching forbidden history, what even IS the Day of Unity and why are all the Emperor's explanations such non-answers? And at first she maybe does it in a desperate attempt to convince herself that no, NO, Belos is perfect and right and I'm not wrong. But the more she looks the more she sees.
She doesn't know what to DO with it. Rebellion is probably still out of the question, she's not quite there yet. But she doesn't want to be alone with this, she's reeling and questioning everything and it's driving her crazy. She can't tell Eda, her sister would hoot and holler and say I told you so, and she doesn't need that.
So who's someone Lilith would know, and be predisposed to trust, and was kind of open about the fact that they were joining the coven system to try and improve it from the inside?
Raine Whispers.
YESSSS OKAY I LOVE BASICALLY ALL THIS
I think Lilith stays covenhead, it seems like it might be a "until you die" position. But will IS still in charge of a lot of military stuff. He never speaks, but he can still issue written orders, like, sending an illusory note telling people where to report or what shift to take.
Will is cool and efficient. He questions Belos a little more often than he would like. If Belos tells him to go burn some wild witches house down and then fight and capture them, well-- that's stupid. I'll just sleeping nettle them and take them in peacefully. He always gets the job done, but not necessarily how he's asked. I think he DOES pass a lot of reforms to make the emperor's coven more efficient, but he's so scary and off-putting because he never speaks and just sort of looms over anyone that tries to talk to him, people still avoid him. He's more well liked than jasper was, but he is scary. Unlike jasper, though, they do think he's a person. Unlike jasper; whom they had rumour about like he didn't bleed or couldn't be killed. He's just more... Elusive.
I think will is also a lot stricter than jasper. Just not sloppy.
GOD I LOVE LILITH AND RAINE TEAMING UP THO THATS SO FUCKING GOOD AHHHHHHH omg... Neither of them are ready to involve Eda but... Omg. Will asks why they don't just bring the owl lady in. we've never REALLY pursued her effectively. And Belos says some dismissive shit and to let Lilith worry about it. But will is like. That's dumb. I'll put together an outfit and just go get her right now. Uh oh!

Songs for some really interesting Dark!Hunter au ideas:
Tumblr media
Not one of us - Lion King 2
Like come on, this needs to be an animatic and this fits Hunter so well. Like what if this takes place during Watching and Dreaming? Like this is basically hunter's worst nightmare. To not belong anywhere, being a long and "Helpless to defy his fate".
This could also be some really good huntlow angst. I mean, when I was reading @avatarmerida's fic " The Secret Life of Caleb Jasper Blood Williams", and It got to Hunter revealing himself as the golden Guard to the team... I just... With everyone's reactions... This is what I heard. Ugh. My heart.
My goodbye - Epic the musical
Maybe a dark! Hunter au?
Inspired by @soldrawss Dark!Hunter au
Where he knows everything about the Day of unity, being a grimwalker and even what happened between the Wittebane brothers. But doesn't care.
Maybe he saw potential in Willow to be in the emperor's coven back when he was a scout during a chance meeting and she used her plant magic to help him with something.
Knowing her talents would be wasted in abominations, when he becomes the golden Guard a few weeks later he demands that she be placed in plant track, due to her raw and natural power for the magic. Even saying he wants to take her up as his protegé, just as Lilith had Amity.
He really just wanted to understand why he couldn't stop thinking of her and thought he could get to the bottom of it with her around him more.
After spending time with her he realized that he enjoyed her company and just wanted a friend and it'd be great to have her in the coven with him, even if it was temporary due to the day of unity.
Since she had never seen him without his mask he infiltrates Hexside as Caleb BloodWilliams under Belos' orders to keep an eye on the human to prevent her from interfering with the day of unity. And finds himself becoming attached to Willow and Gus and this new friendship.
Though as he realizes his feelings for Willow may not be as platonic as he thought.
When she and the rest of the hexsquad go to fight Belos during "Young blood, Old souls", everyone gets separated and thinking that Luz and the others are most likely going to die fighting Belos, Hunter confronts her as the Golden Guard.
Sentimental and irrational behavior aren't any teachings of his and he tells her how she had the potential to be a captain, but she's wasting her time to fight a pointless war. He's done. He's disappointed. But so is she.
Willow isn't stupid, she figured it out. She knew Caleb and the golden Guard were the same person. And now that she knows who the bad guys really are, she's done too. They cut their ties, but super angsty and she tells him that she saw him as a friend (maybe more), but if he wants his goodbye then that's fine.
If he wants to help Belos hurt people, if he refuses to change, then she can put him out of sight and out of mind. He can have his goodbye. At least she knows what she's fighting for, she still has her friends and family, if he's so great and wise why is he all alone?!
They part ways hurt, and even though Hunter didn't want to admit it to himself, he didn't really want her to leave. He wanted her to stay. But he knew his place. He understood his purpose in the end. There's no stopping the inevitable and she couldn't even begin to understand what was happening. After all she is just a witch.
(You can clearly see which one I put more thought into and favor more)
I needed to get this out of my system so I could get back to finishing the fanart I was working on.
