Will's favorite colors are Yellow and Purple. I don't make the rules. His "Will the Wise" robe didn't slay that hard for nothing.

Max: El, is that your shirt?
El: No, it's Mike's
Mike: It's Will's

Transfem Mike who has so much hate for herself because she thinks she's going crazy because how in the world could a boy be a girl?
And on top of that, she envies Nancy so much because why couldn't she be the brother and why did it have to be Mike? Mike hates being the brother, the "boy", of the family, but she feels like she needs to.
When she expresses this to Nancy, her sister just smiles at her. "You can wear my dresses when our parents aren't home."
"For real?"
"Definitely. I have this purple and gray one that will suit you." And the two of them talk about Nancy's closet for a while.
And the next time their parents aren't home, Mike does wear that dress. It's a bit big on her, but he loves it. She cries for at least two minutes when Nancy brings a mirror.

I actually can't believe it, we got an HD pic of him, he looks amazing and they've listened to the shaggy wavy bowlcut prayers, he's wearing blue yellow AND green, he has a pair of headphones and the second one? Confirmed season one upside down flashback, baby Byers is back and they're gonna do the same thing they did with baby Eleven in s4, Noah is acting the scene and the kid has motion tracking dots in his face. Like, it's confirmed, we're gonna see the events of s1 as Will lived them stuck in the Upside Down and I don't think I'll be able to watch without my heart breaking. Seeing tiny Noah all wet and sick and alone in s1 hurts everytime, I can't do that again.
Back to the main pic, I actually CAN'T believe how good he looks. Like, it's so good it almost looks fanmade? It looks like people ACTUALLY predicted him to look like. I'm in love with the longer wavier bowlcut I really am <3
Also, Birthdaygate confirmed. They're saying happy birthday EVERYWHERE, saying they could never forget. So now I'm fully convinced the Duffers just lied about forgetting the birthday because it's gonna be an important plot point of s5. I'm holding onto hope that Lettergate is also real, I need to see that. Also, now that we've seen both Mike and Will, Byler is THAT couple. They're both gorgeous, they're deff sharing clothes and I'm not fully procesing that THIS Will and THIS Mike are gonna kiss, we're actually gonna see the Byler kiss with THESE looks oh my gods. I'm just gonna go stare at both pictures for an undisclosed amount of time because I need to settle in the fact that it's no longer a leak or fanart, it's real. It's happening woooow

Byler headcanons - an extremely domestic sharing things edition!!
Because I thought of one thing and couldn’t stop
They both use 3-in-1 shampoo because they’re insane
A domestic given but they share a calendar and Mike loves Will’s little doodles for holidays, events, anniversaries, and so on
The kitchen is never individually occupied. When one of them cooks, the other is back-hugging them or they’re making things together
Blankets are also never individually occupied because cuddles
When noise cancelling headphones drop they’re both obsessed, fighting over sharing a single pair on and off
Whenever they go on walks Will takes right earbud and Mike takes the left as they listen to their shared playlist. They also hold hands btw
Every meal is basically split between them and they always feed each other
Like literally no meal, snack, candy, beverage, nothing is safe from being consumed by the both of them at any point
They have one car they use to commute to work (at a comic/editing company of course)
Similarly, they arrange for similar work shifts so that they can use the same alarm clock (and failsafe: if one of them doesn’t wake up, the other kisses them awake)
They get a house together btw
They also get a dog and go on walks together :)
And/or a cat and play with them together :)
They love stealing each other’s clothes, especially t-shirts to wear to bed
But most socks and belts are automatically in a share pile
They like to read together too, sometimes cuddling after a long day of work and reading from the same book even if they read at different paces they’ll always wait for each other before turning the page
They both need glasses and at one point have the same prescription for each eye so they often accidentally use each other’s glasses
Stealing sunglasses is also a very common occurrence
They keep a notebook together for creative ideas and build off of each other
Also, their pens and pencils never have a fixed spot, they’re always being passed back and forth around the house
They’ll share a toothbrush when they forget to buy some more (I hated writing this one but why does it feel right)
Sometimes they share gum, too (now this one’s even grosser to me for some reason lol)
The one thing they won’t share is lollipops. Gum is no problem but this crosses the line lmao

Steddie and Byler are so closely tied in my mind.
Somebody plz tell me if I’m completely late to the party here but like…
As much as Mike hates the guy, him and Steve are fundamentally the same. Of course, Mike is much nerdier and prone to bullying than Steve ever was, but at their core, they’re both just rich kids who don’t know how to be their own person. They’re both following in their parents footsteps—the polos, the button ups, the khakis…the American dream with a house and kids—and a girl. A nice girl.
And honestly Mike’s distain for Steve is even more compelling to me. Mike sees himself in Steve and he hates it.
Will and Eddie are of course different too, as far as mannerisms and interests go. BUT they share the same core character archetype—the freak. Not to mention the creative streak and the DND and the queer coding (or in Wills case, just blatant queerness.)
I also feel it’s important to point out just how similar Will and Eddie’s disappearances actually are, and the way the public talks about them when they’re gone. Think about it.
So. They’re alike, so what?
Well, let’s break down what happened in S4.
Mike reunites with El and Will in Lenora, and tries to patch things up with El, but ends up spending all of his time with Will and reconciling their relationship instead.
And all the while? El is spending her time in the memories of the lab with 001.
THEN. ALLLLL the way back in Hawkins, Steve is unraveling Vecna’s curse with Nancy and Eddie, and shows signs of wanting Nancy back (which is completely out of the blue, right? How weird!) Except he ends up spending alllll of his time!!!! With!!! Eddie!!! TALKING about Nancy!! The SAME way that Mike and Will are talking about El! And it serves to reconcile each of their misconceptions of who the other was in high school, under a safety blanket of heteronormativity. It’s a direct parallel to the van scene!
(And don’t even get me started on the failures to say I love you in both Mileven and Stancy!!)
Also what else do we remember happening in Hawkins? Nancy being pulled by Henry (001) into the memories of the lab…where Eleven has been the entire season. El and Nancy are the only two people to walk in Vecna’s mindscape without being under his curse…and why? Why connect them? And not just now.
Why dress El up in Nancy’s old clothes?
Tumblr media
Why provide strikingly similar shots of them crawling out of the Upside Down?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why make them both the girl that no one believes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are inherently tied (and tied with Joyce, but I seriously can’t get into that too this is getting so long) the way that Steve and Mike are, and Eddie and Will. It’s the love triangles, not just Steddie and Byler.
So now we’ve come to the last bit of this ramble, which is Eddie’s death.
There’s a lot of anxiety and controversy about what will happen between El, Mike and Will in S5, but we’ve already seen what is (supposedly) the older trios end—Eddie dies, and it ends because it cannot continue. There is no closure.
Wouldn’t it follow, then, that Will would die?
It’s scary, right? Eddie, much as we love him, was a fast-tracked version of what we have with Will. He was only a fraction and we got that upset. Imagine what losing Will would be like!
But here’s what I think. I think that Eddie dying—whether he remains dead or not—served as almost an extreme hypothetical. An ‘if your friends jumped off a cliff, would you do it too?’ Because Eddie jumped. Eddie chose his friends over himself. Eddie saw himself as a selfish coward, and decided that the only thing he was good for was helping others along. And it killed him.
And Will? He gave all of his love and work over to make El happy. Because he sees himself as a selfish coward, and decided that the only thing he’s good for is helping others along. Will jumped.
So yeah, Will could die. The self-sacrificing tendencies are there.
Except. Mike jumped off the cliff, too. Literally.
So. When two people are willing to die for each other, is it a weakness or a strength?

when byler start dating Mike starts to notice some of his clothes are going missing and not just the long-sleeved, cosy ones Will likes to steal borrow but also some in the short-sleeved, button-up, yellow shirt variety but he doesn't think much of it because they're probably lost in the wash or have fallen off the hanger in his wardrobe or something.
Until one day when he's at the Byers' house, impatiently waiting for Will to come back to his room with snacks, he spies yellow fabric balled up on the floor behind a stack of books. So he goes to snoop investigate, and finds every one of his missing yellow button-up shirts tossed in a hidden pile. Which is weird, not because Will has some of Mike's clothes stashed in his room, that's expected but because they're crumpled and creased and quite clearly have been thrown to the floor with very little care. Anytime Mike has asked for one of the stolen items of clothing back in the past they've always been returned neatly folded and smelling of the washing powder Joyce has been using for over a decade and that one time Will spilled almost an entire bowl of soup down one of Mike's favourite sweaters he said sorry so many times Mike had to tell him to stop.
So... what the hell? And it's just at that moment Will re-enters, a share bag of Reese's pieces in one hand, two bottles of Sprite in the other and a smile on his face that drops the second he sees Mike knelt incriminatingly beside the pile of yellow shirts. Awkward silence looms until Mike decides to break it,
"Care to explain?"
To which he's immediately answered with, "They're cursed!"
And that's when Mike learns about the yellow button-up curse, as Will calls it, and how during each of their big fights Mike was wearing one of the dreaded shirts. Mike finds the coincidence funny at first until he sees Will perfectly serious face in response. So Mike explains that him acting stupid wasn't the shirts fault, it was his and that he never wants to be such an idiot again and he promises he won't, curse or no curse. And Will looks touched for all of 10 seconds until he says,
"I still think we should burn them anyway. Just incase."
"We are not burning my shirts!"
"It's the only way to get rid of the curse!"
"There is no curse!"
But Will's already snatched up the evil yellow button-ups and is running out of the room giving Mike the only option but to chase after him in a race that turns into a tug-of-war that turns into a kiss littered with giggles.
"I am gonna burn your shirts."
"I would love to see you try."

The Harrigtons™
summary: steve harrington x y/n byers and their six little nuggets' life
characters: dad!steve x byers!y/n, joyce x hopper, will, jonothan, el, dustin, lucas x max, mike
warnings: ST4 VOL. 2 SPOILERS!! fluff, minimal swearing, pregnancy, hinted smut, childbirth, that's probably it :)
legend: italics = not in the moment narration, ~~~ = scene change
a/n: ik literally nobody pays attention to these but if this sucks i'm sorry it's my first time writing :,) also i tried really hard to keep steve in-character, bc i read so many of these where he totally isn't.. takes place after season four, except there's no ominous ending (i'm coming for u duffers) also nancy is non-existent in this fic (i love her but she would be problematic due to ST4 ship moments; and there's no mileven or byler bc will and el are way to good for mike and the im convinced byler car scene was will finally letting himself let go of mike)
anyways enjoy
~~~
"STEVE!" I cried, sitting on the cold tile of our shared bedroom's bathroom.
He sprinted in from the kitchen- with the glass of water he went to get for me- breathless. "What's it say?"
I flipped the pregnancy test around, revealing two pink lines.
"YES!" he cried, high-fiving me ecstatically. "This is so great, y/n," he smiled, kneeling down to my spot on the floor.
"We're gonna be parents," I murmured, caressing my boyfriend's face gently.
"The start of our Brood of Harringtons™!" He cheered.
~~~
You're probably wondering, "What had you done to get in this situation?" Hopefully not literally, but that's not the point. Well, after all of the chaos in Hawkins, me and Steve finally decided what was most important to the both of us: each other.
Now, I know it was cheesy for us to realize that, but c'mon, where did you think all those clichés came from?
After Steve's sappy speech in the Winnebago, and the terrifying threats of the Upside Down, we worked towards making that dream a reality.
Steve enrolled in ILEA, or the Police Academy for Indiana. I went back to college, seeing as I had been accepted to the local community college. Me and Steve had planned to wait to get married and have our "six little nuggets", as he calls them, until after college. But things don't always go according to plan- especially after a few drinks and a local party (which I remember nothing, not even whose party it was). I missed my monthly twice, and finally told Steve. Of course, he was beyond happy, and ran out to buy a few pregnancy tests. And that's how we ended up talking about our baby-to-come on a Sunday afternoon, on the floor of our bathroom.
But that was back in '87, a whole year after the last.. incident. But I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to tell you about my family, The Harrington's.
~~~
Nine months after that, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy: Matthew James Harrington. Born October 7, 1987, at 6:22 in the morning, after 13 long hours of excruciating pain. Here's how it went..
"Hey, Steve..?" I said calmly.
"Yeah, babe?" Steve called from over his shoulder. He was on a ladder, fixing a dead lightbulb in the nursery.
"So, don't freak out," I said, still calm. Which, of course, made Steve turn around, and see me waddle in with my water broken all over my pants.
"Oh. Oh! OH, SSSSSSHIT!" He yelled, scrambling down the ladder. "Ooookay, okay. Stay calm, alright! You go take a bath, change into your hospital clothes, and we'll get in the car, and drive to the hospital!" He listed as he guided me into the bathroom, starting a bath and lying out my hospital clothes.
"Alright, I'll stay calm," I giggled, laughing at his panicked state.
After helping me into the bath, he darted between the bathroom and bedroom, continuously asking me how I felt. "Are you sure you don't need anything? Like, absolutely sure? Because I can get you anything you need," He rambled.
"I need you to stop asking me if I'm alright every five seconds. I'll let you know if I'm in any pain." I sighed.
"Okay, okay, sorry." He muttered, helping me out of the bath after a bit and handing me my clothes.
(Which I may or may not have had to ask for help to put on)
~~~
Steve had called my Mom (Joyce), Stepdad (Hop), Stepsister (El), and Brothers (Jon and Will) once we were at the hospital. They rushed over, only Mom and Steve following me into the delivery room.
"It's alright sweetheart, it's almost time," my mother cooed, pressing kisses to my sweaty forehead as she smoothed my hair. "You're almost there."
As expected, I was crying in pain. Scratch that, I was wailing. Childbirth is my least favorite thing, just to be clear.
"Good job, y/n.. good job, hon." Steve was repeating this like his life depends on it, his hand in mine as I squeezed it, nearly breaking his hand.
"I was prepared for pain, not whatever the hell this is!" I screeched, letting out a final push. And then I heard it. Sure, anyone else would have covered their ears at the sound of a screaming baby, but when it's yours, it is an entirely different experience.
Steve let go of my hand, walking over to the nurse holding our son. "Can I...?" He whispered. The nurse nodded, handing him our baby.
"Good job, sweetie.. you did so good." Mom sobbed as she kisses my head. She gave my hand a squeeze as Steve handed me our first baby.
"Hi, little man," I blubbered, "Hello, it's mama." Different flavors of that sentence passed between my giggles and sobs.
"We did good, huh?" Steve murmured, stroking my hair and holding our son's head.
"If you mean me by 'we', then, yes, I did do good." I teased, planting a kiss on his cheek.
Mom scooped the baby up softly, murmuring to him as me and Steve filled out our new baby's birth certificate. I looked back over once we finished, smiling at my mother and son.
"Yes, hello.... It's me, it's Grandma," she cooed.
I was really grateful for my mom and Hopper; they didn't waste one second in congratulating me and Steve. There were no lectures about how we were barely twenty, only loving support. Especially from the kids; they were all about being uncles and aunts. Steve's parents, however, were a different story.
Steve hasn't had the best relationship with his parents; his father really cared about what Steve did with his life. Which doesn't sound bad, except for the fact that that was all he cared about. Steve's mother was the same story, with a bit of 'I love you's sprinkled in between the lectures.
We had decided to keep Chris and babies-to-come out of his parents' lives. Steve wasn't comfortable with our kids being exposed to the same thing he was.
But my family's support and loved was very visible when they came in to meet baby Chris.
~~~
The boys walked in first, as the hospital only allowed two at a time (which meant Mom and Steve were kicked out). Will was carrying a bouquet of flowers for Steve and I, and Jonathan was holding his camera, jumping at the chance for pictures of his brand-new nephew.
"Hey, y/n/n," Will said. He walked over, sitting in the chair next to me. He peered at the tiny baby swaddled in puffy blankets. "And hello, baby...?"
"Christopher James Harrington." I stated proudly.
"Yeah, I'm not repeating all of that. Hi there, Chris." My younger brother cooed.
"Alright, move, my turn," Jonathan said after Will had got a chance to hold Chris. "Can I take a picture of you?" he asked.
You hadn't expected anything less from your twin brother. "One picture," you sighed. "Only one."
He smiled, snapping a picture of the two of you. "Now it's my turn to hold him... Hi there, Christopher.." he cooed, then looked back up to me. "He is the spitting image of Steve. The hair and everything."
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm gonna have my hands full."
After the boys left me, El and Hopper walked in. El, never having held or been exposed to a baby, was extremely nervous. She let Hop go first, and he gladly accepted the offer.
"Let me get my hands on this monster," he uttered softly. It seems a bit harsh for a newborn, but I didn't expect any mushy baby-talk from him. "Hey there, Chris, It's Grandpa. I.." Jim went on talking to Chris as I motion El to come stand on my other side.
"Don't be nervous, El. You're gonna be just fine," I spoke. "I'll be right here and Jim's gonna help you hold her."
She nodded, swallowing the lump in her throat. "I won't.. hurt him?"
"You would never." I promised.
With that, she walked over and sat in the chair. Hop helped her hold Christopher, and soon she was giggling at his little cries and squeaks.
After that, Steve came in to help us to the car. However, I refused to drive home, afraid the carseat wasn't in properly. Hopper checked it three times, but every time I looked at it and shook my head.
So, yes. I did, in fact, walk home with my newborn and boyfriend, the rest of my family following in the two cars that were brought.
~~~
I jumped, hearing a clamor and lots of various "LET US IN!"s at my front door. It was just two days after me and Chris came home from the hospital, and Steve had told the Teens to wait a few days until unleashing their chaos on our new baby. I laughed, making a "be quiet" signal as I opened the door to the Teens.
"Oh, don't tell me he's asleep!" Dustin complained.
"No, but you can't shout around a newborn regardless." I laughed.
They filed in and sat around the living room as I headed upstairs. "Guess who's here," I cooed to my son.
"I don't have to guess, I can hear them from up here," Steve said, walking in to hug me from behind.
"Hate to break it to you, but I wasn't talking to you, love. But, you do get to change him!" I said, handing the baby to Steve.
Steve sighed, sniffing his son. "Wow- that smells horrible. He's only drinking milk?" he coughed, beginning to change your baby.
"I'll be waiting with them," I laughed.
~~~
After changing him, Steve brought Chris down, handing him to Dustin first.
"I swear to you, Henderson, if you drop my kid you'll never be seen again," he warned, gently placing Chris in Dustin's arms.
The Teens crowded around him, all cooing and laughing at his every movement and sound. El and Will sat back with you, and Steve was behind the couch.
"Are you really going to let Mike hold him?" Will asked doubtfully.
"Yes," I said, seeing Mike glare over at Will. Then leaning into my little brother's ear, "sit next to him when he does." Which earned a laugh from the pair.
After they all had gotten a chance to hold Christopher, Max had called dibs on holding her the rest of the time, save little breaks when El would hold her. Steve and Dustin cooked dinner under the supervision of Lucas. Not that he was any more equipped, but if Steve and Dustin got into an argument, he was there to make sure nothing was set on fire.
And that's how things were. I loved the Teens, and not just because they were free babysitters. I knew that I was never going to have to worry about my babies, they were going to be very well cared for.
~~~
A few years later, Steve is Chief of Police. Yes, he's graduated from ILEA. I got a job at Hawkins' Law Firm, even if I was only their receptionist, and graduated college. It was now 1990, and me and Steve have two kids with another on the way. Christopher was now three years old, and a carbon copy of his father. We have a one and a half year old girl, Jessica. She was, and is, also a carbon copy of Steve, much to my annoyance that none of our babies take after me. Our next baby is also a girl, and I was about seven months along. We're naming her Emily.
Oh, and I almost forgot. Me and Steve tied the knot. After I gave birth to Jessica, he proposed to me. Not right after obviously, but about a month.
"So, what's the occasion?" I giggled, me and Steve sitting under a tree at Lovers' Lake.
"The occasion," Steve mocked my words, "is that I love you and our little family."
"That was the occasion when Jessica spit up on your back at breakfast today," I smiled. "so what's the real occasion?"
Steve sighed, pulling out a ring from his jean pocket. "The occasion," he murmured, "is our engagement..?" he ended it as a question.
"Steve, are you for real?" My voice trembled, on the verge of tears. It's crazy how even when I'm not pregnant my emotions can change in a matter of minutes.
He nodded. "Uhm, duh," He kissed my neck. "So?" Steve was never patient.
"Yes! Of course!" I sobbed- or laughed- well, both. "Gimme," I sniffled, looking at the simple silver band, lined with tiny diamonds. "Steve, it's beautiful."
"Yeah, I knew you'd like it."
~~~
"Mama," a small voice whispered, crawling on top of me, tiny knees and elbows crashing into my face. "Mama, it's time to go now."
I sighed, opening my eyes to a pair of identical y/e/c ones. "You're right, baby."
Steve walked in, tackling our youngest. "C'mon, nugget, let's go eat breakfast while Mama gets dressed."
I stretched, smiling. "You made breakfast?"
"I did," He smiled. "Everyone's up, except you. So let's go, chop chop."
"Alright, alright. I'll be down soon."
Steve and I have two boys and four girls. Not quite what we had planned, but we have no complaints. As I said before, things don't always go according to plan.
So here's our not-so-little family tree: Christopher James Harrington, born 1987. Jessica Brittany Harrington, born 1989. Emily Joyce Harrington, born 1991. The twins, Eddie Brian and Tiffany Michelle Harrington, born 1993. And lastly, Rachel Alison Harrington, born 1996.
~~~
"Have I told you what a great husband you are?" I murmured, hugging Steve from behind.
"Mm, not yet, I don't think so," he teased, passing down pancakes with the help of Chris.
"Well, you are." I smiled, scattering kisses on my husband's neck (much to our kids' disgust).
"I figured."
I sat down with my family, finishing up breakfast. After that, we all piled into our Winnebago, off on our long talked about Harrington Summer Road Trip.
~~~
So there we are. A whole brood, army, cult, whatever you'd like to call it, of Harringtons. There were some bumps along the way, like the time Steve dropped Eddie when he was two months old. Or the time I forgot Christopher at the grocery store when he was eight. But let's talk about high points: I started taking weekends and Wednesdays off to take care of the kids, and Steve came home earlier and left later for work. We got a dog, a golden retriever named Scooter. Robin comes over to babysit, along with Dustin and El. Sometimes Will tags along on our family trips, dragging Jonathan along. Jess got accepted onto the cheer team, and Tiffany is the head of the mathletes. Ed is a track star, and Rachel is an off-balanced ballerina. Chris is a basketball star, just like his dad. And Emily joined the AV club, ironically enough.
I guess that's it. Our Brood of Harringtons™. And boy, are we happy.
~~~

byler headcanon (childhood edition) where…
Tumblr media
i’m sure that more than once Lonnie got home late at night, reeking of beer, stumbling and barking orders and insults. and i’m sure Will knew what that meant. another fight was coming, a night full of screams and doors being slammed, his mother being exhausted and yelling at his dad until they were tangled in a battle that none of them ever won. those nights, Jonathan would come into Will’s room and say “let’s go for a ride”. a ride always meant the Wheeler’s house, where Jonathan would drop him off, babbling thanks after thanks to mrs. Wheeler for letting Will stay the night before he head back home to help handle the situation.
at first, Mike didn’t know why some nights Will would appear at his room with a plastic bag where a quick change of clothes and toothbrush and been shoved rather unceremoniously, twisting his fingers in the hem of his pajamas and looking shaken up. he never cared to know a reason, at least at first. Mike was always thrilled to have his best friend over, especially because those nights his mom would allow them to stay up past nine (nine thirty). Mike also didn’t know why his mother, who was so persistent keeping Mike’s sleeping schedule on the dot, was so flexible whenever Will stayed over those nights. he also never questioned this.
Will would always be a bit quiet at first, settling into the Wheeler’s basement and curling up on the sofa, knees to his chest and head bowed as if he was trying to take up as little space as posible. it took time, but Mike always managed to break through that shell, whether it was by doing something silly like fitting a pair of pants on his head to pretend he was an elf with long hair or by just commenting on the new board game his mother had bought him… DnD. all of Mike’s excitement for having Will over would soon rub on Will, and whatever had soured his mood would soon be shoved to the back of his mind.
but then there was this one night. this one night Will showed up as he usually did, at his door, looking shaken up, with a red nose and marks under his eyes. he had been crying, and Mike couldn’t figure out why. he tried to do it all. showing Will his new trick of throwing popcorn in the air and catching it with his mouth, share his video games with him, bring out his toy swords so they would play to battle each other. but all his efforts were useless. Will wouldn’t stop shaking, his eyes wouldn’t stop watering and he wouldn’t stop looking down at the floor with his gaze lost.
“Will?” Mike asked, giving up on his last attempt and deciding to sit next to his friend instead. when Will didn’t say anything, Mike tapped him on the shoulder. Will jumped back, making Mike retreat as well. Will’s eyes were wide open and a single tear fell to his cheek. he looked… scared. “Hey,” Mike said, tilting his head to meet his friend’s eyes.
a beat of silence. two beats. and then, “Hi.”
“why are you sad?” Mike asked with a frown.
Will hitched in a breath and his hazel eyes rested on the thread sticking from his shirt. he pulled on it twice before saying, “he left.”
“who?”
“my dad. he- uhm… he left home.” Will turned to Mike. “i don’t think he’s coming back this time.”
Mike’s brows dipped even further. “oh.”
Mike then thought back to his parents and wondered if it was even allowed for one of them to leave. he didn’t think so, but he could be wrong. he knew Dustin’s dad wasn’t around either, though the thought kept feeling strange in his head.
he didn’t know what to say. Mike knew Will probably needed words and comfort. he looked at the edge of breaking down into sobs. but how could Mike know what to say to him? sure, his parents fought a lot and it was awful, but that little fact seemed like a drop of water next to Will’s ocean of issues with his family, with tides that kept knocking him out of balance and to the ground. and besides, Mike was bad with words. most times than not he said the wrong things because he didn’t took the time to think about them first. if he said something wrong now, Will would probably start crying, and then he would cry more, embarrassed of crying in front of Mike.
so, instead of saying anything, Mike scooted closer and set his hand right next to Will’s, close enough so their pinkies were touching. Will didn’t move and didn’t look at Mike. he then linked their pinkies together and tugged gently at Will’s, twice.
Will sniffled and tugged back, twice. they didn’t play that night and didn’t watch any movies. they didn’t talk either. at some point, Will started sobbing and Mike, to give him some space, grabbed the comic laying close to the couch and pretended to read, so Will wouldn’t noticed him hearing him cry. with one hand he turned the pages even though he was taking none of the story in, and with the other he held Will’s pinky, tugging here and there twice so Will would tug twice back.
they fell asleep on the couch like that and by the next morning, when Jonathan came to pick Will up, Mike interlocked their pinkies once more and smiled at Will, who then smiled back at Mike.
from that day on, this new tradition grew, a way to communicate with the other when words didn’t seem to fit the situation. so whenever one was worried about the other, whenever they suspected the other was having a hard time or was sad or simply under the weather, they would reach out across the couch or underneath tables and interlock their pinkies. two tugs to ask “hey, are you okay?”, one tug back to say “yes” and two to say “no”. and whenever it was no, they simply stayed like that until the bell rang or one of them and to return home. it was their little secret, a way of checking on the other without needing words.

I just realized that Mike and El never choose to be together, not really
Jancy: they have chemistry, history and the real shit, shared trauma, and they choose to be together. Nancy decided to not hide and run away out of fear and cover herself up with the blanket of 'Steve's girlfriend'. No she chose Jonathan
Jopper: chemistry, history, shared trauma, but also Hopper chose to let Joyce in, he decided to not run away and hide but let go of fear and just jump in, same goes for Joyce
Lumax: chemistry, a bit of an history and most definitely shared trauma, but after breaking up Lucas chose to go after Max, and Max decided to let him in, to slowly open the door again for him to come in, Max chose to not run and hide away out of fear
I am sensing a theme here.
Any way mistake never had that what they have is *ruffles through pages* using Mike's words against him *push glasses up a bit* 'was just dumb luck' and quote
Byler: chemistry? Check, history? Double check, shared trauma? Checkling checking check. Will chose to give up on his love for Mike (Hopper, Jonathan, Lucas) but he still communicated his love, even if clothed (Jonathan s1-2, Hopper s2-3, Lucas s2-3-4) so the ball is in your corner Mike. Will you, chose to not run and hide away out of fear? Will you, Mike Wheeler chose to be with Will?

elmax hcs? or just el and/or max lol i love them & they deserve more content <3
HEY SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY I GOT DISTRACTED- but now i'm here and i'm so so so ready to tell you my elmax hcs <3 i love them they're like my?? 2nd favorite ship??? they're my favorite girls!!
they have their own secret little code to talk about the guys!! like all of them have nicknames so that way they can gossip about them without them knowing. they're always so confused but never really ask because they think it's just "girl stuff"
they go on double dates with byler. i know. they told me. they go on picnics and watch movies and just love to spend time together <3 max and mike actually start getting along because of that
it's funny because at first they don't tell hopper they're dating because they want to be able to have sleepovers together <33 ofc hopper then finds out somehow and makes them leave the door open 3 inches
they use each other's clothes CONSTANTLY. so much that they actually end up buying stuff together so they can share it!!! the perks of having a gf that uses the same size as you
max calls el every morning just to be the first one doing it because she knows hopper doesn't want to wake up el when he goes early to work!
joyce takes the girls shopping and hangs out with them a lot!! they have their own girl nights and love watching movies together!! they try to explain joyce who's wonder woman and she ends up loving her!
max's mom doesn't know they're dating but loves el!! she thinks she's really sweet and great for max <33 that's enough for max for the moment tbh
max teaches el how to use a skate! after a few tries she finally gets to be able to not fall, but ends up doing it on purpose anyway because she likes when max catches her
el's favorite superhero is probably supergirl and max's is wonder woman!! but they also like marvel, and i think max would love black widow and el's fav would be scarlett witch!
max helps el with homework because she still struggles with some stuff!!
jonathan taught el how to use a polaroid, so now she and max have a lot of pictures together!! el's room is full of them and max has a little corner in her room too
they bought together a notebook where they write letters to each other everyday!! they also use it as an album where they put all of their pics together <3
el now goes to high school with them and she shares most of the classes with max (they always seat together) but when they don't, they always wait for each other to walk to their next class together
they often have lunch with the guys but sometimes they sneak out to eat together alone
max loves calling el "angel" (because, well... ang-el) and el calls her "love". it makes max blush every time.
the party knows, of course, and they're okay with it. but it's really funny seeing their reactions every time el and max are clingy and cheesy because they're soooo done. except lucas and will!!! they're so so happy for them!!!
when robin finds out she practically adopts the girls like- she loves them so much
max always jokes saying she stole mike's girlfriend because she knows it annoys him. although he's literally dating will.
steve is so. damn. supportive. he loves them both like crazy and he can't stop smiling whenever he sees them. like, ofc he's tired of them being in love because he wants that too!!! he's jealous!!! damn kids!!! but he genuinely is so happy for max and el <3
they listen to kate bush together
el makes mixtapes for max because will and jonathan told her it was a big gesture of love (byers gifting mixtapes my fav thing ever) and max literally only listens to them
hope you liked them!!! sorry again for the late reply i often forget about stuff like this :( but this was so much fun and i was so excited to do it!!! <3

Byler, Romance, Steddie and Jopper first date headcanons!
I got an ask for these but unfortunately I forgot to save my draft before posting and have had to delete that and re-do it which is frustrating but oh well! These will be some cute/fluff first dates and there won't be any Vecna stuff or NSFW stuff (I'm a minor and wouldn't feel comfortable writing that kinda stuff). Also Eddie isn't dead. These are quite long so you can just skip to a ship you like if you want and they might be a bit basic as I'm not a fanfic writer. But I hope they're alright!
First up Byler:
I imagine that their initial confession is more angsty than the other ships. Either during an argument one of them yells that they love the other or during Will coming out Mike kisses him when Will thinks their relationship is now over.
After this confession, they don't really know how to approach a date. Neither of them are ready for their relationship to be known, especially Mike, so dates in public are off the table.
Eventually, Will proposes that Mike should come around so he can finish his painting of him and Mike together and use him as his muse. Mike is hesitant to sit and do nothing for hours but he wants alone time with Will so he agrees.
They talk and get so engaged that Mike doesn't realize how long it's been until Will presents him with the finished painting. They share a kiss and then Mike leaves, taking the painting with him.
Mike goes home and puts the painting in one of his multiple boxes of Will's art.
Next up, Ronance, aka the best ship ever!
Nancy really likes Robin but she's nervous to tell her, so she keeps on finding excuses to pop in to Family Video and say hello to Robin. One day she even gets the courage to ask Robin out to a picnic with her.
The thing is, neither of them realize that their date is a date. They both assume that the other person just is doing it platonically and both want to clarify if this is the case but are too nervous to do so.
After a nice picnic, they decide to spend some more time together and go thrift shopping. Nancy tries on a dress and Robin is stunned by how pretty she is so she tells Nancy that she's gorgeous. Nancy says Robin is gorgeous too.
The pressure is too much at this point so Robin nervously blurts out "is this a date?" Nancy responds "I think so?" And then they laugh at how oblivious the other person is. Nancy grabs Robin's hand as they leave the store.
They want to spend more time together, so they go into the cinema and pick the cheapest and least busy movie where they do every movie trope in the book (kissing in the dark, hands in the popcorn). They go home but the next day Nancy appears at Family Video again and they spend the rest of the day together all over again (:
Ok now for Steddie and also platonic Stobin and also Ronance (this is very cliché because I don't really have too much of an attachment to this ship like the others but I hope the scenario is still cute):
Eddie has invited Steve to his concert. A proper one, not the one with a crowd of five drinks referenced in Stranger Things.
Steve has literally no concept of metal clothes so he makes Robin go shopping with him to try and find a nice outfit and ends up wearing his normal outfit with a random vintage leather jacket (it was so expensive that he couldn't afford to buy anything else). Eddie complimented the jacket but internally was amused at how un-metal he was.
Before the concert, Steve is very concerned with trying to be metal and impress the people around him but his knowledge of metal music is abysmal so Eddie has to whisper "correct" things to say into his ear.
None of that matters later on as Steve is surprisingly enjoying the concert and has found himself in the middle. Afterwards they have some drinks and other substances and Eddie walks home. Steve now calming down from the excitement of kissing Eddie phones Robin to pick him up, who obviously cannot drive.
This means that Nancy has to come and pick Steve up. She was "hanging out" with Robin so the two of them were able to pick up a giddy drunk Steve who was buzzing after the concert.
Finally, Jopper! Another cliché one but let's be honest, where else is a Jopper first date gonna be other than Enzo's.
Before going to Enzo's, Hopper tries to put on his blazer only to find it's way too big for him. Eleven rolls up the sleeves and tells him it'd fashionable so he keeps in on (although he gets nervous and ditches it later on).
Eleven, Will and Johnathan all know that they're going out and want them to get together and as they get ready, Joyce has to shoo them away so they won't bug her. She laughs it off but is quite nervous (mostly excited).
Joyce orders the meal for the both of them. She remembers it in full from their conversation in Russia. Hopper eats the bread sticks super fast and he and Joyce start loudly laughing about it. The waiters and people in the restaurant are judging them but they're just so happy to finally have this moment.
Later on, Hopper knocks over some "cheeantee" onto Joyce but mysteriously it seems to magically float back into place. I'm sure it has nothing to do with that kid with the nose bleed at the window with a mysterious boy with a bowl cut. But when Joyce and Hopper look at the window they've disappeared (you can still see the top of Will's head but they let them believe they're great at spying).
Afterwards, they go home to their kids. To the same home. Because they're fully living together and parenting the Byers/Hopper children before they've even had a first date.
Hope these headcanons were alright! Thanks for the ask and sorry this wasn't in direct response to it due to the aforementioned reasoning

I am revealing my first and most forbidden willel au....the Jane Doe AU.........
Tumblr media
in which El Jane is immortal and always comes back to life after her body heals from whatever killed her. the night she escaped the lab, she got shot in the leg before encountering Will gotta have that s3 bite ref, who tied it up with his shirt before going to find help.....he found something but. it wasn't help (when she later died with the shirt wrapped around her leg, her body couldn't reject the bullet so she stayed dead until it was removed during her autopsy)
the next day the party goes out searching for Will and instead find......a fucking mystery dead girl with some of Will's bloody clothes. gotta start their trauma early. anyway skipping over the police shit, when she wakes up and goes wandering around Hawkins, still looking like the corpse she was, Mike does his Mike Thing and takes her in and Dustin gets a bit too concerned with labeling her and not enough concerned with uhhhh her being around at all. Lucas is the only one using just a little bit of the party's shared braincell to consider the idea that Maybe they're fucking haunted by her now. (they're not. but like. it's a Reasonable Explanation. more reasonable than "yeah we saw and disturbed her dead body but she's not a ghost or curse and isn't targetting us specifically, there is no purposeful haunting going on")
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyway. even tho it seems to follow s1 at the start, it's a willel au because Will gets to make a lot more "on screen" contact than he did in canon. because willel can see/hear/touch each other when on different planes (living and dead) and byler can actually have a...."conversation". over the walkie talkie. but just like El didn't wanna lead the party to the gate in s1 because it was dangerous, Will also doesn't wanna tell Mike (or anyone else) where he is either. he doesn't want anyone to come risk permanent death to rescue him, not when he knows Jane found her way out, with no memories and nowhere to go (Will knows he won't have memories either but at least he'll have a place with people waiting for him)
....not to mention there's an alternative version of the au in which El's body was found by the lab people that night, and it focuses on willel working together to escape the lab and learn about their different abilities and how to unlock their memories
I wanna yell about willel's specific dynamics depending on who's alive and who's dead and what happened the night they met and their memory triggers but that's so fucking much so I'll just save that for a willel exclusive post and go off on the party more rn
the night the party finds El in the tree, naturally they're all freaking the fuck out but henclair do momentarily try to offer up "maybe she's Asleep" as an alternative....and then everyone proceeds to lose their shit when Mike touches her and immediately recoils because she's stiff and cold as ice and no one wants to go notify any adults that they were out here but also They Found A Fucking Body. That's Not Really The Kind Of Thing To Hide Rn. and with Will's fucking clothes!!! like if any adults didn't believe he was in danger before, they sure the fuck will Now.
but they don't wanna go talk to police alone, and they also don't think they should all just leave the crime scene (because what if no one listens to them? if they leave someone out here, the adults will have no choice but to send at least one person into the woods), and they also don't want to be the person left alone in the woods with a fucking corpse, but what the fuck are they supposed to do rn.
anyway. for angst reasons, Mike gets left behind and sorta "talks to himself" (she can hear him...but she won't remember anything in detail when she wakes up) and he doesn't understand what the fuck is going on but he's so fucking sorry that they didn't find her sooner. and he's so fucking sorry that...he's glad she wasn't Will. he feels disgusting and also relieved and still concerned about Will and....he just wants to ask her what happened. because she probably knows (knew) where Will is. not to mention what state he was in when they were separated. is any of that blood Will's? is it all hers? he doesn't know.
and somewhere in his muttering he'll mention a "next time", one of the few lines directed solely at her as herself and not just someone who isn't Will or must know something about Will. about her next life, wherever she ends up (not that Mike necessarily has all his beliefs solidified by age *checks notes* 4, but it's the words that matter rn). and that's what she'll say when she vaguely recognizes Mike. "next time". and Mike's like holy fucking shit next time sure came quick
all the people that have ever been particularly good to her have been smol (Kali and the party) so she doesn't really have any subconscious motivations to Not hide from Tols if she can help it. so with slightly odd wording, she gets that idea across to Mike.
but her being hidden from adults and only appearing to the party does not help Lucas feel less haunted. and seeing her not know how to eat various foods doesn't convince Dustin that she isn't going to go apeshit and try to go for a brain next. BUT. her recognizing Will and having only words like "hide" and "help" to say about him at least convinces Mike that Will must've purposely done that for her (given the vest and shirt, and covered her in leaves). he can't really think of Will saying that to her if she was just taking shit from him and going on her merry way to hide herself
but that doesn't tell him what she was hiding from in the first place. or what happened to Will afterward
if you know anything about the ajin IBM, Jane has something vaguely like Kei's early chapter IBM. it doesn't listen to her, basically has its own consciousness. also mortal people can't see it. her "IBM" in the au is just called a Void Body and looks like she does normally, and it doing random shit is why from most povs it'll seem like she has telekinesis. it knocks shit off Mike's shelves and locks doors and whatever. but like it couldn't lift a fucking train or van or anything. it's only capable of what Jane is physically capable of. the most useful thing it does in dangerous situations is stand at Jane's back and take bullets, making it look like she stopped them with her mind or has some kind of invisible shield. (naturally Will and Kali would also have their own "IBM" but with different uses and levels of conscious control)
if Dustin tries that floating toy thing again, Jane still won't really react but her void body might take it and run or try shaking it around and Dustin will get his sci-fi thrill. floating shit is once again not going to do wonders for Lucas feeling haunted as fuck but he will eventually come around when she like. does some cool self defense shit or just anything that comes from an action movie instead of horror. also even if she can't freeze Troy's body or make him piss himself, her void body can still shove him around to copy Mike, or trip him/make him miss his punches/whatever. because physical fighting is what Jane's trained in, and the void body is just like an invisible sidekick with the same training....and no consequences of being caught
.......also. even tho I was trying to refrain from going off on willel. just. please understand that while they are both smol and physically capable, Will still has 0 formal training and Jane could throw him across the training room like a frisbee. However. Will can see both Jane and her void body in perfect clarity (unlike her previous mortal partners), and his own void body responds significantly more to his conscious control and can get him things he needs and consistently protecc and attacc, being exactly where he wants to be. it makes for interesting training matches
okay that was a lot of words I'll shut the fuck up and. maybe try to Actually post more on the au.....eventually........

The multiple readings of the Vegas lines, and why Mike was being a jerk: analysis
So, we finally got our script. And this part caught a lot of people’s attention.
Tumblr media
There are two ways we can approach reading this part of the script.
The first functions under the assumption that the underlined text - What are you, like 12-years-old still, dude? - is Mike’s actual internal dialogue, hence the underlining of motive in the square brackets. This was my first reading - Will feels the air change, he feels the awkwardness, but he does not know why. The ‘why’ is in the underlined italics - Mike is judging Will for being childish and holding onto traditionally ‘childish’ hobbies. Sounds grim, yes, but there’s an explanation.
The second instead assumes that Will is an unreliable narrator for the entirety of this scene, and the underlined text is what Will thinks Mike thinks, and the motive so heavily emphasised within the next direction is instead something entirely different, something Will has missed completely. Bylers like myself might want to read this as Mike having some kind of Will-related realisation...otherwise, it’s ambiguous.
In my opinion, both of the above share a common thread: Mike projects his insecurities onto Will.
In suggesting such a ridiculous fantasy, Will incidentally gets straight to the core of Mike’s desires: To go back to how things were just as much as Will does, to play DnD and Nintendo for the rest of his life, to not have to worry about his best friend disappearing and getting possessed, or his superhero girlfriend getting arrested, or his family being taken and killed, or the town he grew up in being destroyed.
And that’s scary for Mike. It’s scary that the boy he hasn’t seen for a year has read his mind with an offhand fantasy.
We know Mike still likes DnD and Nintendo.
From Lucas on the Line, after Will and El leave:
“Mike went straight back to moping, but it’s even worse than before...he’s in his basement all day, playing Super Mario Bros...”
And all you need to do is watch Season 4 to know Mike’s heavily invested in Hellfire, passionate about making all the campaign sessions, to the point that him and Dustin are markedly pissed at Lucas for choosing his basketball game instead. He also borrows a lot of inspiration from Eddie for his appearance - longer hair; darker, more edgy clothes.
But we’ve seen this before, we saw Mike lash out at Will over his desire to play DnD while he, Dustin and Lucas were ‘getting older’, getting involved with girls, trying to grow up and be perceived as ‘cool’, to outgrow their nerdiness. In fact, we even saw Mike lash out at Will because he showed no interest in girls. Interesting.
And now, once again, Mike is insecure because what he wants to do - sit and play games with friends, his best friend, the friend whose company I think he has longed for just as he longed for El - does not align with what he is doing, or the way he is presenting himself. And so he lashes out, he judges. Because Will is literally the physical manifestation of who he used to be - his old best friend, the person he played DnD and Nintendo all day with. He’s the easiest target for Mike’s insecurities.
To take it a step further, and to be a little more delusional, maybe Mike’s also insecure about his sexual orientation, and projects his insecurity over it onto Will because he’s figured Will out already (It’s not my fault you don’t like girls!). The DnD, the Nintendo, the shadows of his friendship with Will - they stand on their own as remnants of Mike’s past, but are also a potent metaphor for Mike Wheeler’s greater internal struggles - whether that be with his sexual orientation, or just with his self-image, interests and identity in general.
