Hiya! I'm from the pukicho 'controversial opinions' post. Can you tell my about your other language musings if you have any? I'm a linguist and I'm very interested!

oh, wow! yeah, for sure! basically, back in 2020 i kept myself busy by tinkering with a basic 1:1 cipher, and most of that was streamlining english notation, just for fun-- i completely understand how conlang is directly antithetical to how used languages work. so the changes i made were:

removing the letter C, as i mentioned in pukicho's post, since it's been made redundant. where C is used in words, the letter that correlates to the sound can be used, like an alphabet is, well, actually intended to work.

letter blends! i got rid of them. they also fail to apply to the basic function of an alphabet. therefore i simply added letters for th, ch, and sh. didn't run into the need for any others.

the other weird letter pair. QU. why did we do that?? that's a rhetorical question, i'm aware enough of its journey, i simply think it should end. q without the u is used in a lot of naturalised loanwords, but for this project i wasn't too worried about that, because it would lead to me having to make new anglicization methodry and that sounds like hell. maybe one day.

tried to do something for GH (per: "THROUGH"; in "ENOUGH" an F would be used) and related letter duos, but never ultimately decided on how it could best be streamlined. left it alone.

removed upper/lower case. only one case. you can see here i really only use one anyways.

at this point i started running out of things to do with my cipher, so i made new letters for notating plural form and future tense and past tense, as well as common endings like -er and -ing, which i don't actually think would be great to implement pretty much anywhere.

and that's all i can think of off the top of my head! i'd love to hear your thoughts as an actual linguist! thanks for asking :).

Honesty time on artificial intelligence.

So I recently watched a video about someone cloning Michael Kovach's and Gooseworx's voice using artificial intelligence (Apologies in advance for any spelling errors). It was terrifying. Like someone could easily clone my voice and make my voice say hideous things. I have a distinct vision on the current use of AI. There's the benevolent: safe for work roleplay and using it to get inspiration for original art that YOU make. Then there is the malevolent: using a character's voice to say horrible things, using it to make art designed specifically to embarrass someone, and NSFW roleplay.

I myself would not be comfortable using artificial intelligence to clone my voice. This is a serious problem because the bad person cloning my voice could make my voice say homophobic, racist or even antisemitic things. Or say something disgusting. And that's a huge problem since I myself am pansexual and a Jew. And I really don't like seeing children hurt because a stranger impersonated me. And do not make me into a Character on Character.ai. I've seen what happened with my personal favorite shit-poster pukicho here on Tumblr.

It's also problematic in school settings. Literally, my second day of English class, I found a section in my syllabus on plagiarism dedicated SPECIFICALLY to artificial intelligence. I have a personal rule regarding artificial intelligence that I apply for myself: never use it for work. Look at what is happening with Duolingo. I try to learn French (I'm already very proficient in French and brushing up), and I found French errors that would make my own French teacher in high school vomit.

There's a way to check if something is plagiarized. You either copy paste the things you hear in Google/Bing/whatever browser you use or (in Michael Kovach and Gooseworx's case) head straight for the source and ask.

There's a good reason why I am generally against AI. But I can see the good in it too. I'm not saying don't use AI ever, but for the love of Scott Cawthon, I advise heavily AGAINST using AI for malicious purposes or to make money off of someone else's work.

Sorry for the rant.

“But you’re.. intriguing. That was a flawless technique, and you effectively caught a bird..” the cat said, nudging the Kit a bit. “What are you doing out here?”

eight looked up at the cat, before shifting their paws.

“I.. I hate my twoleg. And my parent is so boring. I just wanted to be free for a bit. I heard of the cool clans, and just.. I just wanted to try…” Eight said, looking down, embarrassed. “I’m sorry I bothered you..” they added.

the other cat was silent, before licking the Kit’s fur, in the wrong direction, messing up the smooth, carefully groomed fur.

“Cheer up Kit… are.. are you interested in .. joining a clan?” They asked. The Kit perked up, looking back at the cat.

“I would be.. but I.. heard that the clans had fallen..” they said, making the wild cat snort.

“Where’d you hear that? Kit, do you want to join, or not?”

Eight blinked, and nodded quickly.

“Yes! It doesn’t feel.. right living with that Twoleg, I want to be free!”

the wild cat smiled, and turned around, beckoning the gray Kit with their tail.
