a/n - the brain went BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and wrote this chapter 🤭
Tumblr media
“Morning, sleeping beauty,” Kyle woke up confused as he stared at the glittery pink stars stuck to the ceiling. Turning his head, he saw Y/N on the floor, rooting through a box, and everything came flooding back to him. “I ran out and grabbed you a croissant for breakfast.” She nodded over at the plate on the bedside table where, sure enough, a croissant was waiting for him.
“Sorry, did I sleep for long?” He yawned, sitting up and stretching. “What time is it?”
“11:17am,” That woke him up properly.
“Shit! I’m so sorry!” He groaned, looking around at the work she had clearly already done based on the neatly packed boxes by the door. “I didn’t mean to sleep for that long. I should have been helping.”
“Ky, it’s fine!” She smiled up at him, the nickname again making his heart race. “If it weren’t, I would have woken you up. Besides, you looked cute sleeping.” He was sure she could hear how fast his heart was beating from where she was at that point. All logical thoughts were elusive to him as he tried to remember how words were formed. “Why don’t you eat your croissant? It should still be warm. I only went out to grab it half an hour ago.” Kyle took the plate from the side, biting into the croissant and confirming that it was still warm. Not as good as the pancakes she had made for breakfast a few weeks before, but still good.
“I didn’t even hear you get up or leave…” He mumbled, looking around at what still needed to be packed while he finished his breakfast. “You’ve made a lot of progress.”
“Yeah… It was easier to figure out what I wanted to keep and what could be thrown,” She shrugged, tossing various trinkets into a box next to her. “Most of it is junk. I’m putting it off, but I really need to go through my paperwork. I’m so bad at figuring out what is important in, like… a legal sense. I don’t want to throw away something important because I didn’t realise what it was.”
“Good thing you brought a lawyer in training with you,” Kyle laughed, finishing off his croissant and joining her on the floor. He pulled the box full of paperwork towards him. “Is this all of it?”
“Thank you, that would be a huge help… That should be all of it,” She nodded, holding up a plastic tiara. With a shrug, she put it on. He tried to suppress his laughter but struggled to do so. “Something funny?”
“No, just cute-” He realised what he had said when it was already too late. He couldn’t figure out a way to backtrack without sounding like an asshole and saying that she was not cute, which would be a lie anyway. Fortunately for him, she didn’t say anything further about it, just smiled to herself while she continued to sort through items.
About halfway through the pile of documents, Kyle came across an envelope. He opened it, scanning over the letter it held within. He was curious as he read the first few paragraphs.
“Hey… What’s this?” He asked, holding it up so she could see. She looked over at it, tilting her head slightly, causing the tiara to fall off. The logo in the top left corner caught her eye, and bittersweet realisation flooded through her.
“Ah, that would be my hopes and dreams being crushed,” Y/N tried to laugh it off, but Kyle could quite easily see that she was holding back her sadness. “For a while, I really wanted to be a hospice care nurse. My nanna was in the hospital, and the family wasn’t allowed to visit her in her final moments. It broke everyone’s heart. My grandpa decided there and then that he wanted to die in hospice care, surrounded by family. I admired the nurses that cared for him, and I wanted to be like them one day. When I was 16, I found a programme where I could shadow a nurse for the summer, and my mom said that if I got accepted, I could go. Of course, I wasn’t accepted, so I was sent to dance camp for the summer instead.”
“But…” Kyle double-checked the letter to make sure he was reading it correctly. “Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but… It says here that you did get accepted.” He took a deep breath, reading the first line out loud, just to triple-check. “Dear Ms L/N, We’re pleased to inform you that your application for our summer programme has been reviewed and accepted.”
“No… No, that can’t be right… I saw the letter! I saw…” She paused, looking down at the floor as her mind started to race. “I didn’t. I didn’t see the letter. I was at school, she opened it first and told me when I got home. I never saw the letter. She told me what it said. She read it out to me. I didn’t see the letter.” She held out her hand, and Kyle instantly took the hint, passing the pieces of paper to her. He watched her face morph from confusion to sadness to pure rage as she read it. “Oh, that fucking-”
Without any warning, she was on her feet in the blink of an eye. The letter was clutched in a vice-like grip in her hand as she stormed towards the door, throwing it open hard enough for it to hit the wall with a loud crash. Kyle frantically got up to follow her. In his head, he told himself he just wanted to make sure she didn’t do something she was about to regret. In reality, he was prepared to throw the first punch if things got physical.
Y/N stormed right to the kitchen where her mother had been for their entire stay. Her mom didn’t glance up at them; just let out an annoyed sigh as the two entered with thundering footsteps.
“What did I tell you about coming into the kitchen?” She gave in, looking up from where she was sitting at the table and closing her laptop in front of her. “You need to-”
“You told me I didn’t get in!” Y/N spat, slamming the papers down in front of her with such force that Kyle was worried she had broken her hand. The table shook from the impact. “You lied to me! You always lie to me!”
“Ugh, that,” Her mother rolled her eyes lazily, not at all concerned at her daughter's anger and hostile tone. She didn’t seem to care at all about the situation. There was no hint of any shame for her actions or sympathy for her daughter. “Look, so what if I lied? I was doing what was best for you. If anything, you should be thanking me.”
“Thanking you?” Kyle had never heard Y/N shout like that. It didn’t scare him, just concerned him. He wanted to calm her down, but for the sake of her own mental health rather as opposed to stopping her from saying what she needed to say, what she deserved to say. “You ruined my life! I could have been a nurse! I could have helped people! ”
“Ruined your life?” The lack of emotion in Y/N’s mother’s voice was something that chilled him to the bone. It was clear she had no regrets, no empathy, nothing. She was empty. “You ruined your own life when you skipped out on that audition because you were too busy partying.”
“I can’t believe you…” Y/N’s shoulders slumped, her head shaking as the information fully sunk in. “I could have-”
“Oh please, you know you would have never made it as a nurse,” She scoffed at her daughter. “You would have had to get good grades. You have to be smart and put together! Look at you; you’re a mess!”
“What is wrong with you?” Kyle couldn’t keep quiet any longer. He couldn’t just stand by and let someone talk about Y/N that way, let alone her own mother. “Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? What gives you the right to talk to your daughter in that way?”
“Kyle…” Y/N’s eyes widened in a panic as she turned her head to face him. She wordlessly pleaded with him not to get involved, but that ship had long since sailed.
“Who do you think you are, coming into my house and-” Kyle wasn’t going to let her finish whatever bullshit she was about to spout.
“Who do you think you are, talking about Y/N like that?”
“I am her mother!”
“What you are is a piece of sh-” Kyle was cut off as Y/N grabbed him pulling him back. He hadn’t realised that he had moved closer to the older woman until that moment. She had stood up to square up to him, unwavering in her stubbornness.
“Kyle!” Y/N turned him so he faced her and away from her mother. His anger dissolved when he saw the concern in her eyes.
“I think you should leave now,” Y/N’s mother spat out her words. Y/N didn’t have to be told twice. With a grip on Kyle’s arm, she pulled him to her old room. Wordlessly, they picked up the remaining boxes and carried them to the car, haphazardly putting them in the backseat with no real care. They were lucky they all fit.
“Kyle, that-” Y/N spoke first as she sat down in the passenger seat, looking over at Kyle as he practically threw himself into the driver’s seat. He was clearly still angry but was desperately attempting to calm himself down.
“I’m so sorry for losing it back there. It just makes my blood boil!” Kyle huffed, trying and failing to suppress his anger. “She has no right to talk about you that way.”
“Kyle,” She said his name firmly, trying to get his attention.
“You are so incredible and talented, and if she can’t see that, then-” He continued.
“Kyle!” She tried again, louder.
“She- what?” He glanced over, confusion replacing his rage for just a split second.
“Thank you,” She was staring straight ahead. He couldn’t read the emotion in her voice. “No one has ever stood up for me like that.”
“Of course,” Kyle shook his head dismissively, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world for him to stand up for her because, to him, it was. She finally turned to look at him. He could see the tears that threatened to spill out at any second. “I care about you… A lot.”
The sincerity in his voice, the meaning behind his words, and the look in his eyes seemed to snap something inside of Y/N. In a split second, she had climbed over the handbrake to straddle him, her back hitting the steering wheel and narrowly missing setting off the horn.
Before he could process the position they were in, her lips captured his in a heated kiss. Her hands cupped his jaw as her fingertips threaded through the hair at the base of his neck. It took him a moment to register what was happening, but just as he did, she pulled away. She pressed her forehead against his, breathing heavily.
“Shit… Sorry…” She sighed, closing her eyes. “I shouldn’t have-” Kyle cut her off by reaching up and pulling her face into another kiss, which she quickly melted into. He didn’t want her to apologise for doing something he should have done long ago. Her fingers tugged at the hair she had in her grip, pulling him impossibly closer to her. He couldn’t breathe, but that didn’t matter because she was kissing him.
Her head tilted, deepening the kiss as much as she could before they had absolutely no choice but to break in order to breathe. Even then, she trailed small, open-mouthed kisses along his jawline and down to his neck. Kyle’s breath hitched when he felt her teeth graze his skin, and taking note of this, she did it again. He could do nothing to stop the small moan from slipping from his mouth. On his neck, he could feel the smug smile that had spread across Y/N’s lips as she heard the sound.
A second, much louder moan tumbled from his lips as she slowly rolled her hips against his. Followed by a third, then a fourth. His hands had to grab her hips in order to stop her from doing it again. He was embarrassed by how quickly he had gotten turned on by such small movements, and if she continued at that pace, he would have finished within the following 10 seconds.
“Kyle,” The way Y/N said his name in an almost breathless moan that went straight to his dick. He almost bucked his hips up and barely managed to refrain himself from doing so. “I want you.” He wanted her too. He wanted that more than anything, but the realisation of what was happening was hitting.
“Y/N, you have no idea how long I have wanted you…” He sighed, resting his forehead against hers.
“But?” She knew it was coming.
“But…” He moved to nuzzle his head against her neck, hoping it would help convey that he really did want what was happening to continue, but he couldn’t let it. “Emotions are too high right now. I don’t want… I want to do this right… With you…”
“You’re right,” She whispered, a heavy sigh causing her chest to rise and fall. He was ashamed that he couldn’t help but watch it. “Thank you… for everything.”
“Anything for you,” He meant those words with his entire soul. “Should we go home now?”
“Please.”

a/n - time to meet kyle 😈
Tumblr media
“When you said a dress that shows off my ass, I didn’t expect for it to just be hanging out,” Y/N stood, awkwardly trying to see just how much cheek people could see. Bebe had chosen a dark green velvet dress that didn’t leave much to the imagination.
“Just a little bit!” Bebe smiled, wrapping her arms around her friend’s waist from behind and giving her a hug. “Give people a teaser.”
“A teaser for what? When I’m drunk, and the whole thing is on show?”
“Exactly! Now, come on; I need you to help me with my hair.” Bebe led Y/N out of the bedroom and directly into the bathroom while Clyde lounged on their crappy old thrifted couch, flicking through Netflix. He didn’t look at them as they snuck past behind him.
“What? You don’t trust your boyfriend to do it?”
“Yesterday, he thought my curling iron was a dildo.”
“If you’re brave enough, it can be.”
“I’m never leaving you alone with my curling iron again.”
“You never leave me alone with it anyway,” Y/N mumbled as she carefully separated Bebe’s hair to start curling pieces. She knew exactly how Bebe liked her hair on nights out as she was often the one to do it for her in exchange for Bebe bringing her back whatever takeout she drunkenly picked up on the way home at 3am.
“Because you keep on trying to make the perfect grilled cheese with it,” Bebe rolled her eyes. “We have a sandwich press.”
“Correction, Wendy has a sandwich press. She took it with her to Stan’s.”
“So you use my curling iron instead?”
“Only to get those perfect little stripes on it! I use the regular clothes iron for cooking the rest because there is way more surface area. I’m not completely crazy.”
“Our stovetop is next on the list to be repaired when we’ve saved up, right?” Bebe asked as Y/N finished the final little curls that framed her face. Their stovetop had broken a week into living in their apartment, and Y/N wasn’t going to even attempt to mess with it as she did with the plumbing. They had been living on takeout and microwave food. “Then we can use a frying pan like normal people.”
“Or we could buy more curling irons and start a whole production line? Sell the sandwiches, get rich, get bitches, go wild.”
“Are you done in there?” Clyde called out from the other side of the bathroom door.
“We’re almost done!” Bebe shouted back.
“Why are you both in there?”
“We’re having sex!” Y/N answered before Bebe could, trying desperately to hold back her laughter.
“We’re doing our hair and makeup!” Bebe ignored Y/N’s claims, which she was having none of.
“That’s girl code for having sex!” Y/N elaborated, earning a light smack on the arm from Bebe. She opened the door to see a very confused Clyde waiting.
“Ignore her,” Bebe gestured back at Y/N. “We’re done anyway.”
“If you leave the t-” Y/N started to warn Clyde that she would castrate him if he left the toilet seat up, which she had once threatened Stan with, but Bebe slapped her hand over her mouth before she could.
“Don’t talk about leaving the toilet seat up around him; it’s a sensitive topic,” She whispered, trying not to let Clyde hear.
“How is- you know what? I’m not going to ask,” Y/N shrugged it off. “Every story I’ve heard from South Park is weird, and that’s coming from someone whose town mayor was openly involved in ritualistic sacrifices and still kept on getting voted in.”
“Wait, what?” Clyde thought he had misheard. “They still got voted in?”
“In hindsight, that might mean the ritualistic sacrifices worked?” Y/N pondered this for a moment. A devilish smile appeared on her face. “Hey Clyde, wanna help me pass this semester?”
“Huh? Do you want to study together?” He asked, not catching what she was not so subtly hinting at.
“You’re not ritualistically sacrificing my boyfriend!” Bebe scolded Y/N, dragging her out of the bathroom. “Come on, let’s leave Clyde to pee in peace.”
“Peace isn’t an option in this house!” Y/N called out as Clyde shut the door.
“Ominous threats don’t work on him,” Bebe sighed. “He doesn’t understand them.”
Tumblr media
The club was loud and crowded. Y/N absolutely hated it but did her best to put on a smile for Bebe’s sake. She had been briefly introduced to the group, who were already there, but Wendy and Stan were running late.
Bebe had disappeared off to the dancefloor. Y/N narrowly managed to avoid getting dragged along with her. Kenny’s date had apparently dumped him, so she had kept him company while he complained. He was the only one of the group she had already met as he worked delivery for a burger place she and Bebe usually ordered from. He had tried once to flirt with her, but she politely rejected him. That hadn’t stopped him from getting her number and sending her the occasional message while he was stone, which she would respond to with a picture of a frog, which would distract him.
After 10 minutes of standing around, Kenny spotted a girl from work he had a thing for, so Y/N pushed him to go and talk to her, which didn’t take much encouragement. As she stood alone, wondering if she could get away with escaping without anyone noticing, Clyde approached her.
“Here,” He held out a drink for her. She hesitantly took it from his hand.
“What’s this for?” She asked, eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“For you. Bebe said you’d like me more if I bought you a drink.”
“Oh, did she now?”
“I don’t think I was supposed to say that to you….”
“No, I don’t think you were,” Y/N laughed softly. She knew Bebe was just trying to make sure they got along well since they were living together, but she wished she hadn’t sent Clyde in with a bribe.
Clyde took a sip from his cup, and his eyes widened. “Oh shit! This is your one, and that one is mine!” He quickly grabbed the cup from her hand and swapped it with the one he had just drunk from.
“You took a sip out of it,” Y/N looked down at the cup in disgust. “I can’t drink it now.”
“Why not? I watched you share two drinks with Bebe earlier.”
“I don’t know where your mouth has been.”
“Well, Bebe’s mouth has been on my-”
“Don’t you dare finish that sentence! It’s bad enough I can hear you through the walls. I don’t need a description.” Y/N groaned as Clyde laughed at her discomfort. She hoped that if she stayed quiet, he’d feel awkward and go and join the rest of the group on the dancefloor, but she was sadly mistaken. Apparently, to Clyde, an awkward silence was just an opportunity for him to ask more questions.
“If you’re a dancer, why aren’t you dancing?” He asked. She mentally cursed Bebe for mentioning that she used to be a dancer, as it always led to people asking questions like that. Truthfully, she had always hated dance. It was just something that her mom forced on her. Her mom hadn’t spoken to her since she had announced she wasn’t going to pursue a career in dancing and was instead going to study Literature in a college states away.
But she didn’t want to blurt all of that out to Clyde, so instead, she stuck with her usual excuse. “Because it’s surprisingly hard to do a contemporary jazz solo to… what is this? Eminem?”
“So, like… are you studying dance?” The question coming out of Clyde’s mouth made her laugh more than if anyone else had asked it.
“Are you studying dance?” She fired back at him.
“What? No? Why?”
“Think about it, dude; we’re in the same class. If I were studying dance, you would be too.”
“Right! You sit behind me!” Clyde seemed like he had completely forgotten that they had discussed the fact that they shared a class together only hours earlier.
“Unfortunately,” Y/N mumbled, trailing the conversion off again in hopes he was finally satisfied. Sadly, he still didn’t take the hint.
“Hey… uh… quick question… what did you do to the plumber?”
“I didn’t do anything to him!”
“She bit him!” Wendy had arrived and joined the conversation, followed by Stan.
“Except that!” Y/N mumbled. Wendy gave her a big hug to say hello, and surprisingly so did Stan. She could smell the alcohol on them, a sign that they had pre-drinks. That would be why Stan hugged her.
“Oh my god, you are a vampire!” Clyde pointed at Y/N, who couldn’t help but laugh at this. He seemed so serious, and she was keen to see how far she could actually push that theory on him.
“How did you even get in a situation where you bit the plumber?” Stan asked, slurring his words slightly.
“I was advised by a lawyer not to talk about it.” Y/N lied.
“Wait, you bit the plumber? I assumed that you guys had a dog or something,” Kenny had returned to greet the new arrivals. The girl he had disappeared to dance with was nowhere in sight.
“Nope, it was me, human person Y/N.”
“She’s just a bit feral,” Wendy rested her head on Y/N’s shoulder as she spoke. Y/N wondered how much Wendy had drunk already, as she wasn’t usually this touchy with her when Stan was around. After the date incident, he was a little defensive in front of her. “But we’re taming her.”
“Vampire werewolf!” Clyde looked like he had just connected the dots to the biggest mystery in the world.
“Does everyone in your group know about me biting the plumber?” Y/N asked, earning a myriad of nods in response. “You know what? Fuck it,” She downed the drink that Clyde had gotten her, no longer caring about him having taken a sip. She’d had worse things in her mouth and would probably have worse things in it in the future. Stan cheered as she downed the drink, holding his hand up for a high-five which she hesitantly returned.
“I thought Kyle was coming?” Kenny looked around for their other friend. Y/N had never met Kyle, which was odd as Stan was his best friend, and Stan had spent a lot of time in their apartment when Wendy still lived there.
“He’s sulking in the corner,” Stan pointed out the boy with red curls poking out from the crowd, who was looking down at his phone, completely uninterested in everything around him. “We had to drag him out of the house.” Y/N could relate to that. She was counting down the seconds until it was socially acceptable for her to go home.
“Oh god, Cartman is here,” Wendy groaned, burying her face in Y/N’s neck to hide. Y/N had heard about Cartman, but it was never anything good. Apparently, his mom was paying for his three-bedroom apartment, but he refused to let anyone else stay there unless they paid him an extortionate amount of rent. She was confused at why the group stayed friends with him after all that he had put them through, but she figured there must have been some reason.
“In that case, I think we all need another drink,” Clyde announced, earning cheers from Stan and Kenny. Stan grabbed Wendy’s hand and dragged her off with them to the bar. She tried to reach out for Y/N to pull her along as well, but she managed to escape it. Wendy pouted for a second but quickly got distracted by Clyde chanting, ‘Shots! Shots! Shots!’.
Instead of joining them, Y/N decided to take the opportunity to talk to the one person she felt she could empathise with.
“You look as miserable to be here as I feel,” Y/N joined Kyle in the corner, hoping to break the ice with some shared disdain for where they had both ended up.
“Yeah… This isn’t really my scene,” Kyle looked up from his phone to acknowledge her. He paused, seeming to recognise her. “You’re-”
“Y/N, Bebe’s flatmate,” She finished for him.
“Kyle,” He introduced himself, though he had likely clocked on that she already knew that. He held his hand out. It took Y/N a second to realise he was offering her a handshake. It was a strange sentiment in the middle of a nightclub, but welcome nonetheless. She shook his hand and smiled at him.
“This isn’t really my scene either,” She confessed, looking around in disdain at the flashing lights and sweaty bodies grinding against one another.
“Really?” He sounded quite genuinely surprised by this.
“Really. I hate it here,” She pulled out her phone from her bra and waved it around a little. “I have the Uber journey ready to go on my phone. I just need to hit the button to book it.”
“I always assumed you were the party type from what I’ve heard about you,” It felt odd to Y/N that people knew about her, despite not knowing her. Though, she supposed the same thing could be said about anyone she had been told stories about yet never actually met.
“Bebe calls me the party-hating party animal. I’d rather go wild by myself,” She froze as the words processed in her mind after they had already left her mouth. “That came out wrong.”
“I’m usually alright if I have a few drinks,” Kyle shrugged. “But I need to study tomorrow, so I don’t want to be hungover.”
“I’m studying tomorrow too,” Y/N smiled, realising they had quite a bit in common already. “I have a shit ton of notes to write up before my lecture on Monday, and it's bad enough studying while Bebe and Clyde are in their room, but if they’re going to be hungover, it’ll be worse.”
“I’m in the same boat with Stan and Wendy,” He nodded along. “I have to escape to the library most days.”
“I might have to start joining you,” She was half joking, though she waited for his reaction to see if he would seriously consider studying with her or if he would laugh it off.
“As long as you don’t go wild while studying, it’s nice to have a study partner,” He agreed, and she grinned.
“Ah, shit, I go super wild while studying!” She dramatically threw her hands up in the air as though this was devastating news. “Sometimes, I even have three books open at once.”
“That’s hardcore,” Kyle laughed along with her for a minute, stopping only to tilt his head so he could hear the music better. “Oh god… What is this song?” Y/N stopped to listen to it as well.
“I can’t tell if she’s singing in another language or if it's just aggressively… cursive?” She tried to make out some words, managing to get ‘love’ and ‘sorrow’ from them. “She sounds like a goat trying to do a Shakira impression.”
“And the goat has a blocked nose,” Kyle added. “Oh, wow! Somehow, the chorus is even worse. How is that possible?”
“Wanna bail on this club and share my Uber home?” Y/N decided to just take the opportunity to get out of there. At least with an accomplice, they could both be buzzkills together and share the disappointment of their friends.
“I thought you’d never ask,” He smiled at her as she unlocked her phone, booking the Uber to arrive ASAP. “We should let them know so they don’t look for us.”
“Or we just leave and text them when we’re already gone so they can’t try and force us to stay?” She suggested but looked over at where Bebe was dancing with Clyde. Both of them looked unsteady on their feet from the alcohol they had already consumed, and Stan and Wendy looked even worse for wear. “Actually, you’re right. There’s no way they’ll read their phones in this state.” She led the way over to the group, wrapping her arms around Bebe from behind so she could talk next to her ear and be heard over the music. She swayed slightly with her.
“I’m leaving!” She announced. “Stay safe, and see you at home! Love you!”
“What?” Bebe let go of Clyde, who pouted at the lack of attention, instead turning and swinging her arms around Y/N and holding her in a close hug. “No!”
“I do love you, I promise!” Y/N knew that wasn’t what she meant, but she was trying to diffuse the situation so that Bebe would let her go.
“I love you too, but you can’t leave!” She pleaded, her hands clumsily trying to play with Y/N’s hair, but her rings just got caught in it. “Oh… shit…”
“I hate it here, and so does Kyle,” Y/N explained, pulling away to help untangle Bebe from her hair. “So we’re sharing an Uber.” As she did so, she heard Kyle telling Stan and Wendy that he was leaving.
“You have your keys to let yourself in, right?” Kyle asked.
“Uh…” Stan patted his pockets but came up empty. “Wendy?”
“I thought you had them?” Wendy groaned.
“Crap!” Stan grumbled, checking his pockets again as if they would magically appear there. Unfortunately, they didn’t.
“I’ll have to let you in later,” Kyle sighed, checking his watch.
“Dude, you’re such a heavy sleeper!” Stan protested. “You’ll sleep through it, and we’ll be stuck outside all night!” Kyle looked dejected at the thought that he couldn’t leave until Stan and Wendy wanted to leave.
“We can just get the Uber to our place, and then you guys get one later with Bebe and pick Kyle up as you drop her off.” Y/N jumped in with the suggestion, looking to Kyle for confirmation. “If that’s okay with you, of course?”
“Sounds like a plan,” Kyle nodded eagerly, looking relieved that he didn’t have to stay.
“Booooo!” Clyde called out, a few heads turning to look at him as he shouted louder than he probably intended to. “Party poopers!”
“Have fun!” Bebe winked over at Y/N, who gave her a very confused look in return. What was she suggesting? Before she had the chance to ask, her phone buzzed.
“Uber is two minutes away,” She grabbed Kyle’s arm so she wouldn’t lose him in the crowd. “Let's wait outside.”

a/n - couldn't leave y'all on that angst 😭 also please drink some water for me if you see this 🥰
Tumblr media
Kyle and Y/N had fallen asleep together on the bed after eating the brownies and talking for a little while until she drifted off with him soon following after. At some point, his mom must have gone in and retrieved the plate without disturbing them. Y/N hoped that Sheila wouldn’t say anything about the two of them sharing a bed but had a feeling she’d bring it up some way or another.
Once she had woken up, Y/N managed to slip out of bed and downstairs without waking Kyle. Her plan was to make him a cup of coffee and bring it to him in bed as a thank-you for comforting her the night before.
Her heart sank when she was joined in the kitchen by Gerald only a minute later. She considered abandoning the idea altogether, but she was already brewing the coffee. Weighing out her remaining options, she wanted to stay silent, but at the same time, she didn’t want there to be a bad atmosphere over Thanksgiving.
“Do you want a cup of coffee?” She offered, hoping to break some of the growing tension.
“Yes, please,” Gerald confirmed, settling down at the kitchen table. “About last night-”
“Doesn’t matter. I’m sorry, I probably overreacted,” She shrugged it off quickly, hoping they wouldn’t talk about it any more and further complicate the issue. She didn’t like to apologise when she felt she did nothing wrong, but it was easier to just make peace while she was staying there and feel her feelings about it once home.
“No, it wasn’t you,” He shook his head and sighed. “I was out of line, and for that, I am sorry.”
“Thank you,” She poured the coffee and walked it over to him, placing it in front of him. Kyle had told her his dad liked his coffee black with one sugar, so that’s how she made it. “In all honesty, I’ve never really had a fatherly figure in my life, so I’m never sure how to react or behave around them. I probably did overreact to what was said, and that is something I need to and will work on in future.”
“You’re a good fit for Kyle,” Gerald took a sip of his coffee and smiled. “You seem like a very mature and level-headed young woman… And this coffee is perfect, thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Y/N decided not to touch on the phrasing that she was a good fit for Kyle. She knew what he was implying, but she didn’t want to complicate their relationship by delving into that. She couldn’t risk losing the best friendship she had ever had. “I think I heard Kyle moving around, so I’m going to take his coffee up to him.”
“For the record, if you ever do want to learn how to drive, I am more than happy to teach you,” Gerald added just as she was walking out of the kitchen. “Ike destroyed four mailboxes just trying to turn left. If I can teach him, I think I can teach anyone.”
“Four mailboxes?” Y/N laughed, looking back. She was thankful that the tense atmosphere had dissipated. “Two walls, a fire hydrant, a stop sign, and I blew out three tires.”
Tumblr media
“Mom said dinner will be ready in an hour,” Ike yawned from the doorway, having only just gotten up at midday. “But knowing her, it’ll be two hours.”
“Thank you, Ike,” Y/N smiled from her position on the bed. Kyle had set his laptop up so they could watch a movie together without having to go downstairs since Sheila had demanded that everyone leave her alone while she was cooking. “Wanna watch a movie with us?”
“And listen to the two of you flirt the whole time? Gross,” He cringed and turned around to go back to his own room. “I’ll pass.”
“He’s lucky he’s too big for me to kick him now,” Kyle mumbled, looking over at the door. He got up and pushed it so it was just slightly open a crack. “That’s technically still open, right?”
“I’d say so,” Y/N grinned, flicking through the various movies on Netflix. “What are you feeling? Horror is a no for you; gross, sappy romance is a no for me… should we-” She was cut off when her phone started to vibrate on the bed in front of her.
“You getting a call?” Kyle asked, looking over from where he was still standing by the door.
Y/N’s eyes widened as she read the name. “Shit, I’m really sorry!” She sat up straight, glancing over at Kyle. “I need to take this. Do you want me to step outside, or can I just-”
“No, it’s fine! Go for it,” He nodded in confirmation that it was all good with him, and she accepted the call.
“The fuck do you want?” She asked. Kyle would have been concerned had it not been for the playful tone in her voice as she spoke.
“Turn your Facetime on!” He could hear the other voice, clearly male, despite the fact that Y/N was holding the phone up to her ear. She looked over at him, knowing that it would mean her audio would be playing out loud. He nodded again to confirm that he didn’t mind, especially since whoever was on the phone was loud enough to have been heard anyway. It wouldn’t make much difference. Plus, Kyle was nosey and wanted to know who she was talking to.
“If I go blind from seeing your ugly mug, I’m suing you,” She teased whoever was on the phone as she switched to Facetime. Kyle could just about see from the corner of his eye that it was a man with the same hair colour as Y/N. She pretended to shield her eyes, groaning dramatically. “It’s so awful! So much worse than I expected! I can feel my eyes melting away!”
“Ah, there she is!” The man on the phone laughed along with her teasing. “The Bean Queen herself!”
“I swear if you call me that one more time, I’ll-”
“You’ll what? Kick my ass? I’m in Belgium, sis! Your short legs could never reach!” The nickname ‘sis’ and the mentions of Belgium connected the dots for Kyle. Y/N had spoken about her brother being in Europe with his fiance, and the man did share some similarities in looks from what Kyle could tell. “Where are you?”
“Bedroom,” Y/N answered with a simple shrug.
“Okay, smartass, you’re in a bedroom, but that’s not your bedroom, is it?” Her brother pointed out. “Not unless you’ve suddenly gotten really into… What is that poster for? Basketball?”
“Oh yeah! Totally! I love when they….” She looked around for some sort of inspiration. “Bounce the ball and do that… throwing thing into the… the ball basket holder?” Kyle couldn’t help but laugh at this. He made a mental note to try and teach her basketball terms at some point.
“Wait, who is that laughing?” Y/N’s brother asked loudly, causing Kyle to stop laughing immediately. “Is that a boy? Are you in a boy’s room? Why is my baby sister in a boy’s room?”
“You do remember that I am an adult woman now, not the little kid who used to cling to your legs whenever you tried to walk, right?” Y/N sighed, rolling her eyes dramatically. “But if you must know, I’m staying at my friend Kyle’s house with his family for the holidays because I apparently have no family of my own!”
“Hey! I am right here!”
“You are in Belgium!”
“Okay, fair point….” He paused. “Are you going to introduce me to this ‘friend’ of yours?” Y/N looked at Kyle, who was still standing by the door, worried about moving and interrupting the call. He nodded to confirm he was okay with being introduced, trying to hide his nervousness. What if her brother hated him? She patted the bed, so he joined her on it, making sure to sit far enough apart so that they weren’t touching. He didn’t want her brother to get the wrong idea and jump to conclusions.
“Henry, this is Kyle,” She turned the phone around so the two could see one another. “Kyle, this is my asshole of a brother, Henry. Happy now, dickwad?”
“Yo, Kyle, what is she paying you to stick around?” Henry asked, a smug grin toying at his lips. “Gotta be something good to put up with her.”
“Terrible fries and even worse company,” Y/N joked. She had picked up that Kyle wasn’t comfortable answering the question, unwilling to insult her but not wanting Henry to think he took his question seriously. “Now, why did you decide to grace me with your horrifying presence?”
“It’s Thanksgiving for starters…” Henry sighed, telling her it was something more than that. “Uh… Did Mom tell you?”
“That she’s moving?” Her mood dropped instantly. Kyle looked at her in concern. “Telling me is giving her too much credit. She sent a shitty text saying I need to get my stuff out, or she’ll dump it. Though I guess a text is more than I’ve gotten from her in months. I was starting to think that she had just lost my number.”
“I know it’s a lot to ask you, but… I’m in Belgium,” Henry sighed, looking away from the screen. “I can’t get back in time to get my stuff… Do you think you could grab and store it for me, please?”
“Where do you expect me to keep it?” She shook her head, a mixture of disbelief and disappointment clearly present in her voice. “I don’t have the space to store your shit as well as my own. My apartment is tiny, and I can barely move in it as it is!”
“Please, bean? I’m begging you!” He pleaded, looking around. “Dylan and I just adopted a dog, and we can’t bring it on a plane yet-”
“You adopted a dog, and you didn’t tell me?” Y/N gasped, sitting forward more. “I demand to see this dog right this second!”
Kyle noticed how her entire demeanour had changed at the mention of the dog. He couldn’t tell if Henry had done this on purpose, knowing his sister would get distracted and no longer be upset with him. He hoped he hadn’t but couldn’t shake the feeling that he had. Either way, he didn’t want to upset Y/N by pointing it out.
“This is Cranky Gordon!” Henry lifted up the cutest beagle puppy they had ever seen. “He only bites a little bit!” As if on queue, the dog tried to turn around and snap at him. “Okay, okay! I’m putting you down! That is why he’s called Cranky Gordon.”
Tumblr media
Y/N had stayed on the call with her brother until Sheila announced that dinner was ready. The spread was incredible, and she went back for thirds… and fourths… and fifths. Sixths were considered, but then pudding was announced.
After it was all done and Y/N felt like she couldn’t move, Kyle was mortified when his mom pulled out the photo album.
“No! We are not doing this!” He jumped up as fast as he could, considering how full he felt from the meal, and tried to pull the album from his mom’s hands. “Y/N doesn’t want to see the baby pictures!”
“Y/N definitely wants to see the baby pictures!” Y/N grinned deviously, Kyle glared at her in a plea to get her to stop, but she wasn’t backing down.
“Bubbie, it is a family tradition!” Sheila sighed, holding a firm grip on the book as she settled down on the couch next to Y/N, who looked over her arm eagerly when the album was opened. “Here is Kyle taking his first bath. Look at him! His little scrunched-up face! He was such an ugly little baby, but we loved him.…”
“The hair!” Y/N gasped, grinning up at Kyle as he stood over them in disapproval. “I didn’t realise babies could be born with that much hair!”
“Neither did I! It was quite a shock when he popped out!” Sheila laughed. “I thought he had something stuck to his head… Oh! This is the first time he used the potty all by himself!”
“This is humiliating…” He groaned, giving up and sitting on the arm of the couch next to Y/N.
“What’s wrong, bro?” Ike teased. “If you didn’t want to be embarrassed in front of your girlfriend, you shouldn’t have brought her to Thanksgiving.”
“She is not my-” Kyle started to protest, but Sheila spoke up before he could finish.
“Don’t worry, Ike; we’ll get your album out next.”

Y/N and Bebe had been struggling to make rent after Wendy moved in with her boyfriend, Stan. It wasn’t that they weren’t friends and didn’t want to live together anymore; it was more the issue that Wendy and Stan didn’t get any privacy in the apartment. Plus, Y/N and Bebe were fed up with having to wait to use the only bathroom because the couple were in the shower together. Meanwhile, Stan’s roommate was apparently the sort of guy who just studied in his room all day, so they had plenty of privacy there.
That was when Bebe suggested that her boyfriend move in with them. According to her, they had broken up in high school but remained friends and had just resumed their relationship a month prior.
A lot of South Park students ended up in Denver for college and got apartments together. Wendy and Bebe needed a third roommate, and Y/N needed a place to live as she was the only one from her hometown to attend that college, so she didn’t know anyone. Things just worked out, and they moved in together, a friendship forming easily between the three.
Bebe’s boyfriend had supposedly missed the deadlines when it came to getting an apartment with roommates, so he was stuck with two guys he didn’t know or like. He jumped at the chance to move in with Bebe and Y/N when Wendy left.
Y/N hadn’t met him before but trusted Bebe’s judgement. At least, that was until she heard Bebe loudly moaning his name on the first night, and she realised that she did, in fact, know exactly who he was.
“Just because you think he’s-” Bebe started to protest to Y/N, but she was cut off.
“That’s where you’re wrong!” Y/N pointed at her as though she were catching her out in a lie. “I don’t think in general!”
“Can’t you just be happy for me?” Bebe pleaded, holding her hands up to cup each side of Y/N’s face, squishing her cheeks together a little. Y/N pulled Bebe’s hands away and held them.
“Babe, I’m your biggest supporter. I would be happy for you if you were dating a literal toad. But Clyde?” Y/N knew Clyde. She sat behind him in English Literature and constantly got distracted by the games that Clyde would play on his laptop instead of listening to the lecture. Particularly when the games were anime-girl dating simulators which featured a lot of boob action. She was guilty of playing them herself, that wasn’t the problem, but she didn’t play them in the middle of a lecture. It was hard to listen to her professor talk about how the mountains in Frankenstein portrayed Victor’s emotional state when the limits of jiggle physics in games were being tested right in front of her. “I mean, really, of all people, it had to be Clyde? Clyde?”
“What?” Clyde appeared in the doorway to Bebe’s bedroom, or rather, what was now their shared bedroom. Instantly, Y/N covered her eyes.
“Goddamn it! Put some clothes on!” She yelled, having seen far more of her classmate than she ever wanted to.
“Oh shit!” Clyde looked down at his completely bare form and darted back into the room. Y/N only knew the coast was clear to lower her hand when she heard the door slam shut.
“Don’t give me that look!” Bebe sighed.
“My eyes are singed! I can’t give you any sort of look right now.”
“Give him a week?” Bebe asked, putting on her best puppy dog pleading expression. “Please? For me?”
“You’re so lucky you’re the hottest person I’ve ever met, and I would let you step on me repeatedly if that’s what you requested.” Y/N sighed, giving in instantly.
“Flirt with me all you want; it won’t make me dump him,” Bebe rolled her eyes playfully.
“One day, it’ll work!” Y/N shrugged. She had a habit of flirting with her friends for fun. It didn’t really mean anything. It was just a playful little joke. If someone wasn't comfortable with it, she would instantly stop, but it was so much fun when they played back.
“I gotta admit, you’ve come close before.” Bebe teased, throwing her a little wink.
“Come close to what?” Clyde emerged from their room again, now, fortunately, with some pants on. He was still shirtless, but he had attended lectures shirtless on multiple occasions despite being told he would be kicked out if it continued, so this was nothing new to her.
“Your girlfriend was just admitting that I’ve come close to seducing her,” Y/N proudly stated. “So if you don’t treat her right, I will.”
“She means that,” Bebe added with a nod.
“Wait-” Cogs started turning in Clyde’s brain. “Are you the one that almost split Stan and Wendy up when he wasn’t treating her right?” Y/N nodded, though the whole situation had been blown a little out of proportion when the information was passed around like a bad game of telephone.
Y/N hadn’t intentionally tried to break them up. She hadn’t even really flirted with Wendy in that way. Stan kept on bailing on dates, but Wendy would always forgive him. Y/N simply took her on a date when Stan bailed and showed Wendy how she deserved to be treated. She took her out for a nice meal, they went on a walk, they went to the theatre, and Y/N walked Wendy to her door at the end, which, since they lived in the same apartment at the time, was right across the hall from hers. She even gave her a little kiss on the cheek as they parted ways.
It succeeded in giving the couple the wake-up call they needed to get their relationship back on track. Stan needed to show his girlfriend that he actually loved her and treat her better, and Wendy had to be reminded that she was deserving of love and better treatment.
“They call me the homewrecker,” Y/N shrugged, deciding it was best not to elaborate on the whole situation with Wendy and Stan to Clyde so she could use the same technique if he dared to treat Bebe poorly. “And not just because I’m terrible at DIY.”
“Oh! That reminds me!” Bebe pointed over to their small kitchen unit. The living room and kitchen were smooshed together, and both looked pretty pathetic, but it was livable. “Don’t touch anything under the kitchen sink. It is duct-taped together and holding on for dear life because someone is too stubborn to admit she can’t fix it.”
“Oh, no, I freely admit I can’t fix it!” Y/N held her hands up in surrender. “I just refuse to pay that asshole plumber to fix it.”
“After what you did to him, I don’t think he could be paid any amount of money to come anywhere near our building to fix it,” Bebe mumbled. “And he was the only one we could afford.”
“Look, it’s not leaking currently, so the duct tape is working. Just… don’t breathe on it,” Y/N instructed Clyde. “Or look in its general direction or even think about it because it really is as fragile as my ego.”
“This is the most I’ve heard you talk,” Clyde suddenly pointed out. “You’re so quiet in class.”
“HA!” Bebe let out a loud snort of laughter, pointing at Y/N. “This one? Quiet?”
“When there is no one worth talking to, I don’t see the need to waste my breath,” Y/N explained.
“I’m in that class?” Clyde seemed confused and a little hurt.
“My point exactly,” She mumbled, looking down at the ground.
“You’re talking to me now,” He pointed out, now seeming smug. In response, Y/N turned around and wordlessly walked past him to get to her room, closing the door behind her without so much as looking back at him.
“Give her time,” Bebe assured Clyde, placing a hand on his arm encouragingly as he watched the door close. “She’ll warm up to you.”
“Did it take her a while with you and Wendy?” Clyde asked, turning back to face his girlfriend.
“Noooo! We were instant BFFs! She started talking to us and hasn’t stopped since. I don’t think she slept for three days when we first met because she was so excited to make friends,” Bebe laughed but stopped when she saw that Clyde looked genuinely dejected over the fact that he hadn’t hit it off with his new flatmate. “Just… buy her a drink or something while we’re out, and you’ll be in her good books.”
“She’s coming out with us tonight?”
“Of course! She’s our friend!”
“I thought it would just be the South Park group?”
“If Kenny and Tolkien can bring their girlfriends, we can bring Y/N.”
“I’m not going,” Y/N suddenly spoke up from behind Clyde.
“What the fuck?!” Clyde spun around, clutching his chest as though he were having a heart attack. He hadn’t heard her open her door or walk back up to them. “How did you do that?”
“Sorry, I should have warned you about that,” Bebe winced as she watched her boyfriend try to catch his breath again. “You’ll get used to it.”
“Are you a vampire or something?” Clyde questioned Y/N. She could tell he was completely being serious. “You have to tell us if you are, right? Like undercover cops?”
“Yes, Clyde, obviously I am a vampire,” Y/N nodded, her voice oozing sarcasm. “I am an immortal being who decided that she wanted to spend her eternity going to college and living in an apartment where everything is broken. Now you know my secret I have to kill you.”
“She’s a dancer, so she’s light on her feet,” Bebe explained, ignoring Y/N. “You’ll never hear her coming.”
“Unlike your mom,” Y/N couldn’t stop herself from making the joke. It may have been childish and in poor taste, but she had to. Bebe ignored it, and Clyde didn’t understand, still caught up on everything else.
“A dancing vampire?” He asked. Y/N couldn’t help but snort in laughter at how serious Clyde looked.
“This is your man?” She questioned Bebe, pointing at Clyde.
“Yes!” Bebe groaned, feeling a little secondhand embarrassment from her boyfriend. “You are coming tonight.”
“So is your mo-” Y/N started to repeat the crappy joke, but Bebe’s glare silenced her. “I’m not going.”
“See! She doesn’t want to!” Clyde insisted. “She’s not going!”
“Wait, do you not want me to go?” Y/N asked Clyde, who hesitantly nodded in confirmation. “Oh! Well, in that case, I’m definitely going.” Clyde deflated at the realisation that she was going purely to annoy him.
“Yay! Come on, let's find you the perfect dress!” Bebe grabbed Y/N’s arm, dragging her to her bedroom.
“Wait, why are we going to your room?” Y/N questioned, trying to wiggle away. Bebe could be quite strong when she wanted to be, and her grip on her arm was like a vice. “I have my own dresses.”
“Not the right sort! This is a nightclub, not a barbecue at your grandparents’ house.”
“I’ve always felt my style was more ‘I’d rather be at the ren fair’ than family barbecue, but you’re the one studying fashion, so what do I know?”
“I say this with love… You know nothing.” Bebe shook her head in pity at Y/N. “Now let’s get you in a dress that shows off your cute ass.”

a/n - we are officially in double digit territory 👁️👄👁️
Tumblr media
Kyle didn’t usually eat in his room if he could help it. His mom had always taught him it was unhygienic. But he wanted to talk to Y/N about the night before, and he didn’t want to risk Stan and Wendy interrupting them.
Y/N seemed to consider the bed for a second, but once she realised that Kyle had already made it, she settled on the floor with her legs crossed and plate balanced on one knee. He joined her, sitting opposite in the same position.
“I’m surprised you’re not…” He struggled to find the words without them coming across as rude.
“Hungover and crying on the bathroom floor with the lights turned off?” She smiled, showing she knew exactly what he meant and wasn’t upset by the implications. “Did I really drink that much? I don’t remember much past getting to the party. Clyde had already given me two shots before we left and then another when I got there… I think I remember having a few cups of whatever they had dumped in that fishbowl….”
“Yeah… You were pretty out of it,” He laughed nervously, looking away. He was wary when he realised how much she had actually been drinking and was worried that she probably should be hungover. Unless… “You’re not still drunk, are you?”
“No, I am stone-cold sober,” She confirmed, twirling a piece of pancake on her fork before she ate it. “I don’t get hungover, no matter how much I drink and for how long I do it for. Most I get is a headache, but that is fixed with some water and a Tylenol- thank you for that, by the way.”
“No worries, I know you would have done the same for me,” He shrugged.
“I also assume you took me home, so thank you again for that,” She smiled, tilting her head a little in thought. “I hope I wasn’t too much of a pain for you.”
“You could never be a pain for me,” The words came to him so naturally that he didn’t have to think about them for a second. “So, no hangovers? That’s-”
“Dangerous?” She finished, and he nodded a little hesitantly. “I don’t drink much anymore because of that. I went through a phase in high school, made a lot of stupid decisions with stupider people for the stupidest reasons, all because I could just wake up the next morning with no memory of it and still get my ass dragged to ballet classes at 6am and practice my pirouettes until my toes bled.”
“I always wondered if the rumour was true that those weird ballerina shoes break your toes?”
“Painfully true! Let’s just say I could never pick up some extra cash by selling feet pics because even the absolute degenerates would be turned off,” Y/N laughed at the mildly horrified look on Kyle’s face. “It also breaks the bank. New shoes every couple of months really add up over the years. But at least breaking them in is great anger management control! I personally preferred the method of slamming them against a wall repeatedly. I knew a girl who would run hers over with a car to break them in.”
“Ballet seems really peaceful and delicate from the outside… I had no idea that it was so brutal.”
“Like your mom-” She froze, realising she had let the impulsive thoughts win. “I am so sorry. I didn’t mean for that to actually leave my mouth.”
“Don’t worry about it. Cartman once wrote an entire song about my mom being a big, fat bitch,” Kyle shrugged, not bothered in the slightest by Y/N’s joke. “It’s pretty hard to beat that.”
“I think I remember Cartman getting pissed at me last night?” She tried to retrieve the memory, but it evaded her. “But I’m not sure why?”
“Ah… That would be because you stood up for me when he insulted my costume,” Kyle recalled the moment easily. He was touched that she stood up for him but concerned that it was to Cartman, who was unpredictable. “You asked if he was a furry, and he did not like that one bit.”
“It wasn’t an insult! I know some furries, and they’re nice and cool people for the most part!” Y/N sighed, finishing up the last of her pancakes. “I don’t remember spending much time with you…”
“You and Clyde hung out most of the night,” He told her, still halfway through his pancakes. He slipped one onto her plate for her to eat, and she happily accepted it. “I think he’s the reason you drank so much.”
“I hope he’s suffering today,” She mumbled, trying to remember what she could of the night. She thought she could recall actually having fun with her flatmate, which was odd. “Do you know where my phone is?”
“Crap, I didn’t see it…” Kyle looked around in a panic, worried it had been left behind at the party. “When did you last have it?”
“I think I left it in your car?” Y/N informed him after a moment of thought. “I’m pretty sure I had it then.” His panic eased a little at that. Hopefully, she was right.
“I’ll go check,” He grabbed her now empty plate to drop it off in the kitchen as he left to find the missing device. After a minute of panicked searching, he found that it had slid under the seat and retrieved it. The screen lit up to show a lock screen that warmed his heart, one of him and Y/N that she had insisted on taking when they had taken the scenic route from the cafe to the library. He was honoured to have made it to lock screen status and made a note to change his own from the generic scenery he’d had since getting the phone to one of the two of them.
A notification caught his eye after the lock screen. He couldn’t see what the text message said, but he could see the name of the sender.
‘Mother’
Kyle remembered what Y/N had told him about her mom cutting contact with her because she didn’t pursue dance. He wasn’t sure how she would react to getting a text from her and how it would affect her mood. He had to push away the selfish want to say he hadn’t found the phone so she wouldn’t see the message in hopes he could spend more time with her in a good mood.
When he returned to the apartment, he found that she was doing the dishes. Instinctively, he placed the phone on the table and grabbed a tea towel to start drying and putting things away.
“Did you find it?” Y/N asked, looking over her shoulder at him with a sweet smile. He really hoped that whatever the text said didn’t ruin it.
“Yeah, it's on the table for you,” He nodded over at it while drying a plate. “Want me to finish this?”
“It’s fine! I’m almost done anyway!” She shook her head, looking back down at the sink as she finished the last of the dishes. Once done, she picked up her phone from the table and checked it. Kyle tried not to make it obvious that he was watching her, but he couldn’t help himself.
He watched as her smile dropped within a split second, only to turn into a scowl as she actually read the text. She didn’t appear to send anything back, just turned it off and put on a fresh smile for Kyle as she looked back up.
“Do you have a charger I could borrow, please?” She asked, holding her phone up. “I’m on 12%.”
“Yeah, it’s in my room,” He put away the frying pan he had been drying and led her back to his room. He wanted to ask what the text said, ask if she was okay, give her a hug, or do anything that could possibly cheer her up. But it wasn’t his business. She would tell him if she wanted him to know, but she deserved privacy. “Over here.”
“Thank you, sweetpea,” The pet name made his heart race as she took the end of the cable from his hand and plugged her phone in to charge. There was a moment of silence while she plugged it in and set it down. “My mother texted me.”
“Oh?” He didn’t know if he was supposed to act surprised. His mind was running in fifty different directions at once. “Are you okay?”
“I’m here with you, and not with her,” The words were simple but held so much meaning. Kyle’s feet moved without him thinking as he took her in his arms, holding her to his chest in a hug she eagerly returned.
“I’m here for you if you want to talk about it,” He told her. One of his hands lifted up to stroke her hair, still a little messy from the night before. “I’m also here if you don’t want to talk about it.”
“I don’t…” He could feel that she was shaking slightly, the slightest crack in her voice betraying that she was on the verge of tears. “I don’t know if I can go to yours for Thanksgiving…”
“What do you mean?” He asked as she pulled away to get her phone. They sat down on the side of his bed together as she unlocked her phone, opening the message and passing it to him to read for himself as she didn’t trust her voice to hold out.
Mother : moving house sunday after thanksgiving. anything u don’t collect will be dumped
That was all the message said, but it didn’t have to say anything else for him to know what it meant. Y/N would have to go back to her mom’s house if she wanted to salvage any of her belongings that remained there. The callousness made his blood boil.
“She said Sunday after Thanksgiving,” He pointed out, passing the phone back to her so she could put it back on charge. “We could still spend Thanksgiving at my house, then go to yours on Friday, so we have then and Saturday to get your things.”
“You’d come with me?” She sounded slightly surprised but grateful. “I don’t want to take time away that you could be spending with your family.”
“If it helps…” He leaned in to whisper to her as though they weren’t the only two in the room. “I don’t want to spend the whole week with my family anyway. A few days is more than enough, trust me.” This made Y/N laugh, which Kyle considered a win. Tears were still brimming in her eyes, but there were paired with a smile again. “Plus, who would drive you around if I wasn’t there?”
Tumblr media
It had taken a bribe of no chores for two weeks after the holidays, but Kyle had managed to convince Stan and Wendy to take two cars back home so he could be alone with Y/N. It wasn’t a long drive, only an hour and a half, but he valued any time he got with her.
“You mean you actually kicked your brother?” Y/N asked, her eyes wide with shock. “Like, just fully went for it and booted him across the street?”
“I was 8!” Kyle protested through laughter. “Are you saying you and your brother never did anything like that?”
“There was too much of an age gap between us for him to get away with that shit,” She shrugged, opening up the glove compartment, which she had slowly taken over more and more each time he drove her somewhere. “Then again, he was 13 when I was born. By the time I was old enough to be a conscious human being, he was at the end of high school and barely home.”
“Did you get along with him?” He asked, reaching over to grab a mint from the pack she had produced from the glove compartment as she offered it to him.
“Oh, I followed him around like a little lost puppy whenever he was home,” She smiled at the memory. “I wanted to do whatever he was doing and go wherever he was going. He would carry me around on his shoulders whenever we were out and about. People thought he was my dad, and I guess he was the closest I ever had to one.”
“How old were you when your dad… you know…?” Kyle regretted the question as soon as the words left his lips.
“Died?” She finished for him, far more nonchalantly than he expected her to be about it. “Before I was born. Mom never talked about him. I only know what little I do know about him because my brother would slip me bits and pieces of information. I think it was a car crash or something that killed him.”
“That’s rough. I’m sorry,” He didn’t really know how to react, particularly since she didn’t seem that bothered. He figured it was hard to mourn someone who you never knew and no one would tell you about.
“Look! There’s a deer!” Y/N excitedly pointed out of the window as they passed the animal. “Kyle! I saw a deer!”
“You’ll get used to that!” Kyle laughed at how excited she had gotten over something he had considered normal and taken for granted all his years in South Park. “We’re almost there. Are you ready?”
“As I’ll ever be.”

Tumblr media
Y/N was relieved to be back in the apartment, where it was mostly quiet. Just the sounds of the street outside the window that never closed properly could be heard.
She grabbed the remote, deciding the TV was the most obvious thing to use to entertain her new guest. While she and Kyle had bonded over their mutual disdain for the club, she didn’t know much else about him.
She flicked the power button a few times, groaning in realisation. “Andddd… The TV is broken again!” She put the remote down on the side and tried to unplug and replug the TV in, but it didn’t help. “Clyde has been here one day, and he’s already done something to it.”
“How old is that thing?” Kyle looked in slight awe at the TV. It was one of the first models of ‘flatscreen’ TVs, but it was still three times the width of any TV for sale in stores in the present day.
“It was Bebe’s grandma’s. It got 10 whole channels, but we managed to rig a fire tv stick up to it,” Y/N explained, trying the remote one last time. “Unfortunately, I’m afraid that is all we have in the way of guest entertainment. That is unless you fancy taking a look at Bebe’s gossip magazine collection that has taken over the coffee table?”
“I’ll pass, I think?” Kyle laughed awkwardly, looking down at the selection. “As tempting as it is to find out… Which Kardashian has the most expensive nose?”
“That leaves two options that I can think of. You can crash in the spare bed in what was Wendy’s room until they return from clubbing,” She gestured down the hall to the open door to the room that had once been Wendy’s room. It now only housed a double bed and an empty dresser. “Or you can join me in my room while I watch a nature documentary, and we can do sudokus together?”
“Definitely living up to the party animal part of the party-hating party animal title.” Kyle teased, but she could tell he wasn’t genuinely making fun of her. “I mean, a nature documentary? Sudokus? What a wild night.”
“We could watch something else if that’s too hardcore for you? Maybe do a word search or spot the difference instead?”
“I think I can just about handle it. I’ll let you know if it is too much for me.”
“I don’t have a couch in my room. You don’t feel awkward sitting on the bed, do you?”
“What is a bed but just a longer couch?”
“Wow! I didn’t realise I was in the presence of such a magnificent philosopher!” Y/N laughed, leading the way to her room. She was glad that Kyle was open to joking around with her, as it made the fact that they would be spending the following hours together a little less awkward.
She opened the door to her bedroom, glad she had cleaned up a little the day before since it had been a bit of a mess. There were still textbooks everywhere and about five mugs on the side that she swore she would take to the kitchen to clean, but that was about it. Her bed was even made for once. “Whales or birds?”
“Birds,” Kyle decided after a second of consideration.
“That is absolutely the correct choice!” Y/N grinned. She jumped onto her bed, lunging over it to grab the remote control. She scooted over to the side so Kyle could sit next to her, which he did, leaving a respectful amount of space in between them. She pulled the multiple sudoku books from her bedside table drawer and laid them out on the bed, grabbing a couple of the pens she had on the side.
“You don’t actually have to do any sudokus if you don’t want to,” She clarified, picking up the one she had last been working on and flipping to the next empty one. “My phone charger is next to you if you need it.”
“Thanks, I’m on 5%,” He leaned over the side of the bed to retrieve the charger and plug his phone in. “Honestly, I’d rather do a sudoku than anything else,” He admitted, picking up one of the books and flipping to the next free page. Y/N turned on the documentary about birds that she had planned to watch, and they sat in peaceful quiet. She knew she had made the right choice leaving with Kyle, and she didn’t for a single second regret suggesting that he came back to hers while the others enjoyed the rest of the night.
Tumblr media
The buzzing of her phone in her bra startled Y/N awake. She had to blink her eyes a few times to register her surroundings. Feeling a weight on her shoulder, she turned her head to see that Kyle had fallen asleep as well, resting his head on her.
She didn’t want to wake him, so she tried to move carefully and gently to pull her phone out and check why it buzzed. She was met with a text from Bebe.
bebe 💋 : weere on way howme now b 10 mins
bebe 💋 : wend and stan r going to stay at oirs in old room
bebe 💋 : so skyle will have to satay or get cab home allone
Y/N could barely make out the words Bebe was typing but just about managed to translate that Wendy and Stan would be staying in Wendy’s old room, so Kyle would either have to stay over or get a cab home by himself.
She turned her head again to look at the sleeping boy on her shoulder. Would he want to go home? Where would he sleep if he stayed? She would probably let him stay like that on her shoulder all night had the impending interruption from the others coming home not been looming in the distance; he looked so peaceful.
She checked the time, it was 1am, but she was starving.
y/n 💕 : are we getting food?
bebe 💋 : we caan order in whene home xzxzxxx
Satisfied with that answer, she set her phone down on the bed.
“Kyle?” Y/N carefully nudged her shoulder to try and wake him up in the most gentle way she could so as not to startle him. It worked as he slowly lifted his head and yawned.
“Sorry for falling asleep,” He mumbled, yawning a second time. He had the slightest red tinge on his face as he realised he had been resting against her.
“No worries, I did too,” She confessed, now yawning herself. “Bebe just texted, and there has been a change of plans. Wendy and Stan are staying in Wendy’s old room tonight, so you can either stay here or get a cab home by yourself?” She didn’t particularly like the idea of him getting a cab home alone at that time of night, particularly if he would be returning to an empty apartment.
“Where would I sleep?” He asked. She could tell he didn’t really want to go back to his apartment alone.
“The couch hurts like hell, but that’s an option, or you can just sleep in here,” She shrugged, sitting up properly as she realised the dress had ridden up in her sleep, and she was a small movement away from accidentally flashing him. She tried to casually pull it down as much as possible. “I don’t mind. We’ve already proved we can both sleep here, and you don’t seem like a creep.”
“Thanks, neither do you… I’ll stay here,” He nodded sleepily, sitting himself up with her. “Do you know if Clyde has any clothes I can change into? These jeans are uncomfortable to sleep in. My legs feel dead.”
“I don’t know how much of his stuff Clyde has moved in yet, or where it would be,” Y/N swung her legs over the bed and stood up, stretching a little. “I probably have something; hold on.”
“Your dress is- uh-“ Kyle stuttered a little and diverted his attention to the ceiling to avoid looking at Y/N’s exposed behind.
“Shit, I am so sorry,” She sighed, trying to pull the dress down to cover her again. “This is Bebe’s dress. I’m not used to it.”
“No worries,” He looked at her again once it was safe, watching as she crossed the room and rifled through her dresser, pulling a couple of pairs of sweatpants and a few t-shirts out.
“Take your pick,” She threw them onto the end of the bed. “My mom wanted to throw my older brother’s clothes out when he went travelling, but I just repopulated my wardrobe with them.” Kyle grabbed some at random, as did Y/N. She usually wore the hand-me-downs to sleep. “Bathroom is down the hall, and it’s the first door to the left.”
Kyle made his way to the bathroom slowly and sleepily. He got changed into the borrowed clothes that were just slightly too big on his slim frame but very comfortable. They were perfect to sleep in. Once changed, he found his way back to Y/N’s room, where she was pulling her shirt on.
“Sorry!” He diverted his eyes again, realising he’d waltzed in unannounced while she was changing.
“I accidentally flashed my whole ass at you a minute ago because of that scrap of fabric Bebe calls a dress, don’t worry about it,” Y/N laughed, grabbing a wipe to rid herself of the makeup Bebe had put on her. It had smudged a little in her sleep, the eyeliner and mascara pooling under her eyes, making her look more tired than she already felt. “They’re going to order some food in when they get here. You hungry?”
“Starving,” Kyle nodded, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “Any idea where from?”
“We always pretend to look at the options for five minutes before deciding on that burger place Kenny works for,” She explained, tying her hair back to keep it out of her face. “The fries are so greasy but so good. We’re lucky we get a friends and family discount with the amount we spend in there.”
“Kenny stops by with food from there on game nights. It’s the best,” He agreed with a small smile.
The sound of a key struggling to unlock the front door rang through the apartment before the 4 friends stumbled in.
“Whooo! Let’s keep this party going!” Clyde cheered loudly, still clutching what appeared to be a bottle of beer, spilling a bit on himself either without noticing or without caring.
“Shh!” Y/N left her room to greet them, followed closely by Kyle. “We have enough noise complaints from the neighbours as it is!”
“And who’s fault is that?” Bebe asked, looking at Y/N smugly. She didn’t seem as drunk in person as she was over text, but Bebe was great at putting on a poker face.
“My one-woman opera in the shower has had many five-star reviews,” Y/N joked. “It’s not my fault our neighbours have no taste.”
“I thought you were being murdered and almost broke the door down,” Stan seemed slightly more sober than the rest of the group but still out of it. He must not have drunk as much after they had left.
“You wouldn’t know true art if it hit you in the face!” She retorted.
“Yes, I-” Wendy cut Stan off before he could finish what he was saying.
“Don’t!” She held him back. “You’re just asking her to slap you in the face… Again.”
“That was one time!” Y/N protested. “And he baited me into it.”
“You’re staying?” Bebe pointed at Kyle, changing the subject. He nodded in confirmation. She looked him up and down, recognising the clothes to be Y/N’s. A sly smile crossed her lips. “What have you two been up to?” The implications were clear in her voice, but Y/N decided to brush them off without even openly acknowledging them.
“We watched a nature documentary, did sudokus, and then fell asleep until you texted,” Y/N shrugged, knowing that telling the truth would be the best option. Even drunk, Bebe could spot a lie from a mile away. “Did you know that there is a bird in Papua, New Guinea that’s poisonous?”
“The Pitohui,” Kyle added. Y/N smiled at him, happy he had actually paid attention and absorbed some knowledge.
Clyde and Stan whispered something to one another, dissolving in fits of giggles at whatever it was. Y/N knew better than to engage and just ignored them. “Okay, everyone, get your food orders written down somewhere while I grab water and aspirin for you all.”
“Thanks, Mom!” Stan said sarcastically.
“Fine, then you can suffer,” She rolled her eyes and disappeared to the bathroom to grab the aspirin. She returned to the shared kitchen living space to see that Kyle had already started to get water for everyone. “I have rehydration things somewhere around here.” She mumbled, looking through the cupboards until she found what she was looking for.
“Are you guys seeing this?” Stan pointed at the pair as they prepared the rehydration drinks and aspirin. “This is why I said they needed to meet up. They’re both totally lame.”
“Staniel, we can hear you,” Y/N sighed, grabbing a glass in either hand and passing one to Stan and one to Wendy while Kyle did the same for Bebe and Clyde. “Drink this, take these, thank us later when you only feel slightly shit in the morning instead of completely shit.”
“Have you ordered the food yet?” Clyde groaned, slouching on the sofa. “I’m so hungry.”
“You haven’t given me your orders yet,” Y/N pointed out, but Bebe waved her phone around.
“I started a group chat, and they are in there,” She announced, collapsing on top of Clyde on the couch. “It’s called best friends because that’s what we are.” Y/N sighed and made her way to her room to grab her phone, as she had left it on the bed after Bebe texted her on their way home. Kyle trailed after her, having left his own phone on charge in there.
Y/N checked her messages to see a new group chat had indeed been made and was already flooded with poorly spelt food requests. She assumed the one number she didn’t have saved was Kyle’s, so she quickly saved it under ‘kyle 📗’.
“Here, just add what you want,” She passed her phone over to Kyle after she had input everyone else’s requests. He flicked through and added what he wanted, passing it back to her with a smile.
“Mind if I stay in here while we wait for the food?” He asked, looking over at the door to make sure it was closed. “When Clyde is drunk, he’s a little….”
“Loud? Annoying? More so than usual?” Y/N suggested the descriptions. Kyle nodded a little hesitantly. “Stay in here all you like, dude. I’m staying here as well if that’s okay with you?”
“It’s your room,” He laughed a little. “You don’t have to ask if it's okay with me.”
“Yeah, well, you’re the guest,” She shrugged in response, sitting down on her bed. Kyle followed suit, sitting down next to her. He was so careful in his movements, as if he was worried he was doing something wrong. If Y/N had to be honest, it was a little cute. “I’d bet $10 on Clyde passing out before the food even gets here.”
“I’ll add another $10 for Stan passing out too.”

wendy 💜 : tell us all about it after!!! 💜
bebe 💋 : we want ALL of the details 😘
Y/N put her phone down and dug through the small suitcase of clothes she had packed to find the skirt and top she knew she had packed. Relief flooded through her when she found them at the bottom of the bag.
She darted to the bathroom to get changed, fixing her hair so it looked presentable. She considered lipstick but knew it would make for a nicer first kiss if she stuck to just lip balm. She wanted it to be as perfect as possible.
“Ready to go?” Kyle asked once she emerged. He always looked handsome, but something about the way he looked at that moment was special. He had let his hair run a little more on the wild side than usual. She wondered if it was because she had told him she liked it like that. His top two buttons were undone, whereas he would usually only unbutton the first. She had to snap herself out of admiring him for too long, or she would seem creepy.
“Ready!” She confirmed, realising he was waiting for an answer. She held out her arm, and he linked it with his own. They ignored the kissing noises Ike was making as they walked out the door.
“Are you okay with walking?” Kyle asked. “It’s only down the road.”
Y/N looked nervously down at her shoes, realising it was probably a bad idea to have worn heels, but decided to push past it. “I’m happy to walk!”
Those words haunted her after just five minutes of walking. They were apparently halfway there, but she was already struggling. She did her best to hide her discomfort from Kyle, but he picked up on it as he had slowed down significantly to accommodate her.
By the time they made it to Stark’s Pond, she had to flop down on the nearest bench as soon as possible.
“This is why I don’t wear heels,” She groaned, kicking the demon shoes off. “They’re a torture device and not the fun kind.”
“Fun torture?” Kyle was confused for a second, but the realisation hit him right after. “Oh! Right… Yeah…”
“Sorry,” Y/N laughed a little awkwardly. “I guess you’re not into all that?”
“I guess I’ve just….” He tried not to let his thoughts linger on the idea for too long, not out of discomfort but because the idea turned him on a little more than he anticipated. Even though it was 7pm and the sun had mostly set, there was still a hint of light, and he couldn’t risk her seeing a tent in his pants and being weirded out by it. “Never thought of it.”
“Ducks!” Y/N suddenly gasped, pointing at the birds. “Oh! I wish we had something to feed them!”
“Who says we don’t?” Kyle grinned as she looked at him in pure excitement. “And before you say it, no, it’s not bread because I know that’s not good for them.” Looking through the satchel he brought with him, he found the bag of frozen peas he had snuck out from under his mom’s nose in preparation. There were always ducks at Stark’s Pond, and Y/N had talked about how she always loved feeding the ducks back at home and educated him on what was safe to feed them. He wanted her to know that he had listened and cared about what she said.
Kyle felt his heart almost leapt out of his chest when she flung her arms around him in a hug that left him breathless, both because of how tight it was and because it was paired with a kiss to the cheek. He reminded himself again that kisses on the cheek were normal for Y/N. She did them all of the time with her friends. They were friends.
When she switched and kissed him on the other cheek as well, his hands instantly tensed around her as he hugged her back. Two kisses. Very good friends.
“Come on!” Y/N stood up, her shoes abandoned by the bench, not caring about how muddy it was around the pond as she tried to pull Kyle up with her. She almost fell over when he did get up, not expecting the sudden change in force required, but he managed to catch her just in time. She didn’t seem phased, just laughed at the situation.
Her laugh echoed through his mind and heart. He could listen to it on repeat for the rest of his life and never get tired of the sound.
The ducks loved the frozen peas, and watching Y/N’s joy when they went crazy for them was unlike anything he had ever seen. In his head, he had already planned a future for them where they bought a house in the countryside and raised ducks together. He couldn’t comprehend how he had so quickly become absolutely smitten with her, but he wasn’t upset by it.
As they threw the last handful of peas into the pond, Kyle looked down at Y/N beside him just as she looked up at him, a breathtaking smile on her face. He knew exactly what he needed to do, what he had planned their whole evening around.
All he had to do was lean down and kiss her.
He knew she could sense it. Her smile softened, eyes fluttered half closed as he leaned in and… pulled her in for a hug.
Something in his brain short-circuited. He froze at the last second, head moving to the side to avoid the collision.
“I really value our friendship,” The words left his lips before he could stop them. They were the wrong ones. He was supposed to say that he felt more than friendship for her, but the words were gone, and the moment had slipped from his grip.
“Me too,” The disappointment in her voice was evident. He could feel it over the disappointment he felt in himself for being a coward and not saying the right thing, not doing the right thing.
“We should get back before it gets too late,” He sighed, looking up as the moon started to peek through the trees.
“Right,” She nodded, looking over at the bench where her shoes lay. “Give me a second…” She walked over and started to put them back on. Kyle could still salvage the evening. He had to. He owed her that much.
With ease, he lifted her up bridal style, just like he had two weeks before on Halloween. She squealed in surprise, her hands wrapping around the back of his neck for support. Her laughter echoed in his ear, returning a fraction of the joy they had shared before he ruined the moment.
Tumblr media
The atmosphere between them had changed, but it wasn’t exactly a pleasant change for either one of them. It wasn’t the change Kyle hoped to have returned home with that evening. Few words were exchanged as they settled in for the night, Y/N on the bed, Kyle on the air mattress. Each faced one another, but they were on their phones.

Y/N sighed and turned off her phone. They would be driving to her mother’s house the next day. She was worried the situation would just make things worse. Her mother’s presence tended to do that. She wanted to fix things between them before they were ruined for good.
“It’s cold,” Y/N whispered, snuggling under the covers as she watched Kyle turn his phone off as well and meet her gaze. Concern flooded his face.
“Do you want some more blankets?” He asked, sitting up in preparation to grab some blankets from the closet.
“No,” She shook her head, feeling bold. “You’re warmer.”
“I’m what?” He looked up at her from his lower position on the air mattress on the floor. “Do you want me to…?” She didn’t say anything, just lifted up the covers so he could join her. It was his bed, after all. It made more sense for him to sleep in it than on the air mattress.
Slightly hesitantly, he got up and slipped into bed next to her, his body stiffening when her arms wrapped around him. It only took him a few seconds to relax into the position, his arm reaching over her in return. It was the same way they had slept the night before.
“Goodnight, Ky,” She whispered. His heart skipped a beat at the new nickname. Maybe he hadn’t fucked up his confession as much as he thought?
“Goodnight, Y/N.”

Tumblr media
Y/N hummed a little song as she sat on the kitchen counter with Kyle standing awkwardly between her legs as she tended to his hand the next morning. She had spent five minutes trying to decide which cream would be best to help heal him. They had about 7 different ones because of how accident-prone she apparently was. She always liked to be prepared.
“What song is that?” Kyle asked, trying to distract himself from how close she was. He had barely gotten any sleep that night. At first, it was due to how loud Clyde and Bebe had been, but once they had finally drifted off to sleep after an hour, he found himself unable to relax because Y/N was curled around him. He was so worried about moving and waking her up that he laid there as stiff as a board for hours, staring at the ceiling.
He found out she talked in her sleep a little. None of it made any sense; she mumbled something about a dancing snail and then something about a chair that was stuck upside down. He wanted to ask her about it when she woke up but didn’t want to seem like a complete creep who listened to her sleeping all night. She also lightly snored most of the night; it was the cutest thing he had ever heard.
“Not sure,” Y/N pondered for a second, racking her brain to figure out what song had lodged itself in it that morning. She hummed a little more of it. “I think I heard it in an ad for life insurance?”
“Right! The one with the talking cat,” Kyle nodded in recollection. “The way they made its mouth move always creeped me out.”
“I swear it had human teeth….” Y/N shivered lightly in discomfort at the memory.
“How is my hand looking?” He asked, changing the subject.
“Honestly, not too bad!” She smiled, carefully wrapping a fresh bandage around it. It was pink and had little hearts on it, he knew he’d get the shit ripped out of him if any of the guys saw it, but he couldn’t bring himself to say no when she suggested it. “We can probably take the bandage off tonight to let air get to it, but we’ll keep it on for today.”
“It already feels a lot better than it did last night,” He admitted, looking down at her delicate movements. He spoke again without thinking. “Must have been because you kissed it better.” His eyes widened as he realised what words came out of his mouth, cheeks instantly flushing red. Regret and embarrassment hit him like a truck, but she just gave him her usual sweet smile that caused his heart to skip a beat in response.
“In that case…” Y/N brought Kyle’s hand up to her mouth. “I guess I’ll have to do it again!” She pressed another little kiss on his palm, just like she had the night before. This one had a slightly different energy to it. The one at the diner had been a fast little peck that was clearly supposed to be a joke that she hadn’t thought much about before doing, but this one was very gentle and deliberate. It was full of care.
“What did I just walk into?” Bebe yawned as she rounded the corner and spotted the two. “I thought I heard more than one person giggling last night.”
“Surprised you could hear anything over last night's schoolgirl roleplay,” Y/N retorted, shuffling her leg around Kyle so she could hop off of the counter. He held his non-bandaged hand out to help her down, which she happily took. “Now, was it yours or Clyde’s idea for him to be the schoolgirl?”
“Just because your sex life is boring-” Bebe looked Kyle up and down as she spoke. He felt like she was analysing every inch of his appearance, which she probably was. “Or is it?”
“My sex life is non-existent,” Y/N mumbled in response.
“Uh-huh, so Kyle is just in our apartment wearing your clothes for completely non-sexual reasons?”
“His hand is hurt!” Y/N took Kyle by the wrist to show the proof of his injury as he stood there, watching the interaction happen without being able to move. He didn’t know how to respond to Bebe, but Y/N seemed to have it covered. “He can’t drive until it has healed, so he stayed here. So, yes, he is in our apartment wearing my clothes for completely non-sexual reasons.”
“Whatever you say!” Bebe shrugged. Playful smiles toying at hers and Y/N’s lips told Kyle that they were teasing one another in good fun. “Don’t let me get in the way of your doctor/patient roleplay.” Y/N looked like she was about to argue back, but she was interrupted.
“What’s happening?” Clyde emerged from the bedroom, Y/N and Kyle instantly shielding their eyes. Bebe laughed, grabbing one of her magazines from the counter and settling down at the tiny kitchen table, kicking her legs up as she watched what was about to go down.
“Clyde! Clothes!” Y/N shouted, turning to bury her head against Kyle’s arm for added cover. “Every goddamn morning! What is wrong with you?”
“It’s like the locker rooms after PE all over again,” Kyle groaned, recalling how Clyde used to just walk around the locker room completely bare without a care in the world. His confidence would have been something to be envied if it wasn’t so discomforting to witness.
“Y/N, did you get our professor’s email this morning?” Clyde asked, shuffling around to put the boxers that he had been carrying on. He had remembered to pick them up before leaving his room but not put them on. Small steps; he might remember that step next time. Maybe… Probably not.
“I’ve not checked yet; why?” Y/N asked, peeking out from behind Kyle’s arm to see if the coast was clear and Clyde was no longer exposed. She let out a small sigh of relief and pulled away when she deemed it was safe.
“He ate something dodgy and has food poisoning,” Clyde explained, wrapping his arms around Bebe as she sat down, resting his head on top of hers and glancing at the magazine she was absentmindedly flicking through. Kyle couldn’t help but envy how confidently he could be affectionate in front of others. “So he’s just sent us a bunch of material and cancelled today’s lecture.”
“Wanna go through the material together?” Y/N suggested to Clyde. Kyle frowned a little at this. He convinced himself that it was because he didn’t really want to study with Clyde, but he knew it was just because he didn’t want to share Y/N’s attention with anyone else, even if it was just the roommate she complained about constantly.
It took a second for him to remember that they didn’t even have plans to study together that day. She would usually be in class. He had just assumed that, now that she didn’t have class, they would spend their free time together. It was strange, Kyle usually valued his time alone above anything, but he had quickly come to prefer to spend his alone time with Y/N.
“Well, Bebe has Fridays off, so…” Clyde leaned over and pressed a kiss to his girlfriend’s lips, a suggestive smirk appearing as he pulled away. “I think we’ll do a little ‘studying’ together.”
“Gross!” Y/N groaned, looking away as Clyde pulled Bebe into a deeper kiss with what was definitely considered to be too much tongue. “Not in the kitchen!” At that, Clyde scooped Bebe up in his arms and carried her to their bedroom, not bothering to properly close the door properly behind them. Y/N chased after to pull the door closed in a poor attempt to at least somewhat muffle the sound.
“They’re like rabbits in heat,” She shook her head, packing the first-aid kit up as fast as possible so they could get out of there. She pocketed a couple of items that she had used, Kyle assumed it was to treat his hand again later, and it made him smile to know she was thinking of him and planning ahead.
“I have a free period this morning,” Kyle helped pack up and followed behind Y/N as she retreated to her room. “Should we go to the library so we don’t have to stay here?” He hoped she didn’t pick up on the fact that he had assumed that, no matter what they were doing and where they were going, they would be doing it together.
Y/N gave him a thankful smile at the suggestion. “As long as we can pick up some cupcakes from that bakery along the way?”
Tumblr media
Their usual table was taken, so Y/N and Kyle ended up settling down on one of the couches in the corner, as it was one of the only other spaces where the library allowed patrons to bring food and drink.
They had been there for an hour. Y/N’s legs, at some point, had swung over Kyle’s lap in an attempt to get comfortable, and Kyle had his textbook rested atop them. Noticing her yawning, he suggested that they take a 10-minute break from studying. Over their multiple study sessions, they had picked up on one another’s subconscious queues that signalled that they were getting worn out from studying and would suggest 10-minute breaks whenever they spotted one. Kyle found that it worked out better for him, and he got a lot more studying done as he actually absorbed the information instead of reading the same line 10 times and still forgetting it because he was overwhelmed with everything else and hadn’t taken a break.
“Do you have any plans for Thanksgiving break?” Kyle asked, closing his book for the time being to signify he was listening to her. “Going home to see your family?”
“Well, my dad is dead, my brother is galavanting around Europe with his fiance, and my mom won’t talk to me anymore because I destroyed the future she had planned for me, so…” Y/N sighed, fiddling with her pen. “Nah, no plans to go home and see family.”
“I’m so sorry,” He seemed deflated as he realised that he might have unintentionally upset her with what he thought was an innocent question. “I had no idea.”
“It’s fine; you had no way of knowing. I hadn’t told anyone,” She smiled in an attempt to cheer him up and show that she wasn’t that upset by it. “I was going to ask Doris and Jay if I could spend the day with them, but they’re visiting Jay’s parents in Texas, so I’ll be spending Thanksgiving alone in the apartment. The peace will be nice, I guess?”
“Why don’t you come back to South Park with me?” Kyle suggested it before even considering if it was a good idea or not. He didn’t like the idea of Y/N being alone for the holidays. “My parents would be happy to have a visitor, and I’m sure everyone else would love to have you around for the week.”
“You know… I’d really like that… Thank you,” She smiled, reaching over and placing her hand gently on his arm in thanks. He could feel the warmth radiating off of her even through the sweater he had thrown on over the top of the t-shirt he had borrowed. “To be honest, I’ve never had a proper Thanksgiving. My brother spent holidays with his dad, so it was just Mom and me, and she would always be preoccupied with entering me in seasonal pageants and competitions to care about actually celebrating the holidays. I think I’ve had one Thanksgiving meal and two Christmas dinners over my life.”
“If my mom hears that she will flip, you’ll be invited to every holiday at the Broflovski’s for the rest of time,” He laughed, his hand resting on top of hers. “Which might be a bit of a curse now that I think about it….”
“I don’t think spending time with you could ever be a curse,” The words made him blush. His hand stiffened slightly, and he hoped she didn’t notice the effect she had on him. How could she say such things with no hesitation? “Speaking of curses, have you got any plans for Halloween? There’s a horror movie marathon at the theatre from 8pm until 4am. They’re going from the cheesy old stuff with horrible CGI to the movies that were banned in some countries because of how freaked out people got.” Halloween had crept up with alarming speed; Kyle had completely forgotten that it was that weekend.
“Horror movies aren’t really my thing,” Kyle laughed nervously. He had never liked horror movies, particularly when Cartman would insist on watching them at every sleepover they had growing up. He didn’t want to make a fool of himself by jumping every two seconds.
“You sure? You can always hide behind me if you’re scared?” Y/N teased, squeezing his arm lightly before removing her hand to brush her hair out of her face. “I swear I won’t tell anyone.”
“As tempting as that sounds, I promised Tweek and Craig that I would help with their party,” He sighed, remembering the promise he had made a month prior when he had thought he would have nothing better to do on Halloween. Tweek was more stressed than usual, and Kyle needed him to calm down a little as he was driving at the time, and it was making him nervous, so he had agreed to help in an attempt to soothe him. “Did Bebe not tell you about it?”
“She did…” Y/N grimaced, shifting her legs off of Kyle’s lap to stretch. He missed the contact instantly. “I’ve just been trying to find an excuse to not attend.”
“Ah, so hanging out with me is just an excuse?” He pretended to be offended but couldn’t suppress his playful grin when he saw her laughing. “You should come to the party, and we can be stuck-up nerds together.”
“We can just be so miserable and unlikeable that they kick us out of the party!” She gasped in delight as though she had just solved world hunger instead of plotting how to avoid a social gathering. “I guess I’d better tell Bebe I’m going.”
“I’ll let my mom know that you’re coming for Thanksgiving,” Kyle smiled, grabbing his phone from his pocket. “She’s been asking to meet you; she’ll be so excited.”
“So you’ve talked about me to your mom?” Y/N teased. He froze, realising the words he had said. His mom checked in on him regularly, and he had told her all about his new friend immediately since she had become such a staple in his life already.
“I mean, we spend so much time together,” Kyle did his best to shrug it off as though he wasn’t embarrassed about it.
“Well, we should get back to studying,” Y/N grabbed her textbook and clicked her pen again, settling down to work. “Wouldn’t want your mom to think I’m a bad influence on you.”

a/n - two updates in one day???? technically no as its 1am for me... but if i update again at usual time then it'll be yes! time will tell!!
Tumblr media
Kyle drove a little faster than the speed limit on some empty roads in order to get back quicker, which he knew he shouldn’t have done and was paranoid about the entire time. He knew he had only had one beer, but he was terrified of the idea of being pulled over by a cop. He was soon distracted by the soft snoring coming from the girl next to him, saving him from his anxious thoughts.
Y/N had fallen asleep; head tilted to the side, mouth hanging open a little. He breathed a sigh of relief as it would make it easier to just get her settled down in bed and leave her be for the night knowing she was safe and asleep.
He parked as close to the door as he could get and got his apartment key out and ready so he could unlock it straight away. He tried as quietly and carefully as he could not to wake Y/N up as he lifted her out of the car and carried her into the thankfully quiet apartment.
Wendy and Stan had left early. Stan felt sick, so Kyle assumed they were already in bed as the apartment was dark and quiet.
He didn’t turn the light on, which meant he only very narrowly avoided walking into the couch as he made his way directly to his room. As carefully as he could, he laid her down on his bed. Just as he was about to stand up straight and leave, he saw her eyes open, watching him with curiosity.
“Where are you going?” She asked, hands reaching out to try and pull him back towards her. Her sleepy and drunken movements prevented her from getting a grip on his shirt so she couldn’t drag him onto the bed, which was probably for the best. “Come back to me.” She sounded so sweet and innocent as she pleaded, and Kyle almost broke, but he managed to hold on to his resolve as he straightened his back.
“Can I get you anything?” He asked, diverting his gaze to look at anything else that would distract him. “Some water? Food?”
“Stay with me?” She requested. That was what it took to break Kyle’s resolve.
“Let me find you some clothes first,” He sighed, trying to find something suitable in his dresser. “You can’t be comfortable in that. Even under the covers, you’ll freeze to death.”
Looking through his shirts, he stopped on one and considered it for a second. Holding it up, he decided to go ahead with it and let her wear his favourite t-shirt. It was the t-shirt he had been gifted by his coach after winning the last basketball game of the season, with his name and number on it. He felt a little selfish, wanting to see her wearing his name and number, but convinced himself it meant nothing. It was just a t-shirt, nothing more. He grabbed a pair of shorts as well and passed them to her.
Y/N held the clothes out, her hand tracing Kyle’s name as she thought about something.
“I don’t think… I can get this dress off by myself,” She mumbled, looking down at her body. The dress was so skin tight Kyle wondered how long it had taken to get on in the first place. He considered suggesting that he closed his eyes and they got it over and done with quickly, but her next words put a stop to that immediately. “I don’t have underwear on.”
He was at a complete loss as to what to do. That was when a saving grace came in the form of Wendy getting up to go to the bathroom.
“Hold on,” He instructed Y/N. He opened his door and slipped into the hallway, quickly grabbing Wendy as she walked past his room. “Wendy?”
“Holy shit, Kyle!” Wendy gasped, clutching her hand to her chest as she tried to catch her breath. “You almost scared me to death!”
“I’m really sorry, but I need your help,” He sighed, looking back at his open door. “Y/N can’t sleep in that costume, but she can’t get it off, and I don’t think I should be the one to help her, especially since she’s not wearing underwear, and-.”
“Stay out here,” With no hesitation; Wendy pushed past to help her friend. She had done the same in return for her. It wasn’t a big deal.
After five excruciatingly long minutes, Wendy opened the door again. Kyle had gone to get Y/N some water and aspirin for the next morning that he would leave on the bedside table for when she woke up.
“Is she okay?” Kyle asked immediately, looking over her shoulder at the slightly ajar door.
“She’s fine, but I’m going to murder Bebe and Clyde for getting her that drunk,” She mumbled, shaking her head in disappointment. “You shouldn’t keep her waiting, or she’ll get up to find you. She asked where you were the entire time. I could barely get a word in edgeways.”
He didn’t need to hear anything else before returning to his room, finding Y/N curled up under the covers, only her head peeking out from them. Even with smeared makeup, she looked adorable.
“Kyle!” Her voice was full of pure joy when she said his name, and it made his heart ache. He thought he was selfish for committing it to memory, but he couldn’t help himself. No one had ever sounded so sweet saying his name. “Come here, it’s cold, and you promised me a hug.”
“Hold on. You shouldn’t sleep in that makeup,” As fast as he could, he rushed to the bathroom and grabbed some of Wendy’s makeup wipes, hoping she wouldn’t mind. He returned and sat down on the edge of the bed. “Close your eyes.” She did as instructed, and Kyle wiped her makeup off as gently as possible. She leaned into every touch with a happy little hum that he couldn’t help but smile at. Once done, he tried to stand up, but she had grabbed the back of his shirt.
“Hug now?” She asked. He couldn’t say no to that. With a heavy sigh, he threw the wipes into the trash can from where he was. After that, he turned and settled down on the bed next to Y/N. Her arms immediately wrapped around him in a hug which he, remembering his promise, returned.
Tumblr media
Kyle woke up to the sound of music drifting in from the kitchen, unsure of when he had fallen asleep. He looked around to see that Y/N’s costume from the Halloween party was still in the corner, but she was missing from the bed. He realised he was still wearing his own costume from the night before. He had been so focused on making sure she was comfortable that he had forgotten his own comfort.
Looking to the side, he saw that the water and aspirin he had left on the bedside table for her were gone, so that was a good sign that she had woken up well enough to know she needed to take them.
With a yawn and stretch, he got up to investigate the noise, but not before making his bed as he always did first thing. As suspected, it was coming from the kitchen. Stan stopped him just at the entrance, where he had been watching what was happening inside.
“You’ll get dragged into this and forced to sing with them if you’re not careful, trust me,” He warned, pointing at the source of the commotion. Kyle watched as Y/N and Wendy danced around the kitchen, loudly singing along to ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth’ while they made what appeared to be pancakes for breakfast. “Just wait until they get on the chairs and start singing Celine Dion. It really is a sight to see.”
“Do they do this often?” Kyle asked, smiling as the two girls had the time of their lives. Y/N had a spoon raised to her face, pretending to use it as a microphone. She looked like something straight out of a sappy rom-com, beautiful and completely carefree.
“Often enough that they have a pancake playlist with all of their favourite songs to belt,” Stan nodded, laughing as he watched his Wendy flip her hair around wildly. She seemed happier and looser than usual when Y/N was around. Something about the two seemed to bring out the best in one another. “So, Y/N stayed the night?”
“It’s not like that!” Kyle shook his head, noticing the suggestive tone in Stan’s voice immediately. “She was really drunk at the party; I couldn’t find Bebe or Clyde to take her home, so I figured it was safer to bring her back here. Wendy got her dressed. Nothing happened.”
“I don’t know how she’s so energetic after drinking that much,” Stan looked on in disbelief as Y/N danced around without a care in the world, seemingly not a tiny bit hungover. “My head is pounding, and I only had like… three beers.”
“Dude, you had seven….” Kyle shook his head at his friend but soon smiled as he watched Y/N dance and spin around, grabbing Wendy’s hand to twirl her. “She’s definitely something special.”
“You’re so whipped, dude,” Stan laughed at his friend. “You’d better say something to her soon, or someone else will get there first. Kenny has asked me about her a few times.”
“Kenny?” Kyle groaned. “God, I have no chance if-” His voice had increased enough in volume to catch the attention of the two girls. Fortunately for Kyle, they hadn’t caught any of the conversation.
“Good morning Kyle!” Y/N gave him a dazzling grin when she spotted him lurking in the doorway next to Stan. She held her hand out, inching closer to him. “Come and dance with us!”
“Kyle has no rhythm,” Stan announced with a knowing smirk in his friend’s direction. It was a challenge, and Kyle knew that. “And the neighbours won’t let him sing anymore.”
“Dude!” Kyle groaned, pushing Stan to the side enough to make him wobble but not fall over. He really considered taking Y/N’s hand for a second but didn’t want to make a fool of himself. She was a professional dancer; he would look even worse next to her. “But it is probably best for everyone if I don’t. I really don’t have rhythm.”
“Suit yourself!” Y/N shrugged, turning back to Wendy and twirling her around. Stan gave Kyle a disappointed look that told him he had missed his chance, but Kyle did his best to shrug it off.
Y/N checked the frying pan and decided that the pancake in there was good to go, adding it to the growing pile. “Come on, you don’t have to dance, but you do have to help eat these before the leaning tower of pancakes falls.”
“Y/N, babe,” Wendy grabbed two plates and piled pancakes onto each. “Stan and I are going to eat in our room.” She walked past Kyle, leaving him confused as she gave him a wink. Had she heard the conversation between him and Stan after all?
“Gross!” Y/N called after the two as they disappeared hand in hand around the corner, turning back to Kyle with a grin on her face. “I can’t see that your singing could be any worse for the neighbours than when those two go at it.”
“That sounds like a challenge,” He laughed, feeling slightly nervous. She put the spatula she had been holding down and held her hand back out to him, stepping even closer than before.
“You say you have no rhythm…” She took his hand before he gave it to her, pulling him towards her. His feet moved on autopilot. “But maybe you just need someone to take the lead?” Kyle couldn’t will his mouth to move with a response, nor could he trust the rest of his body to do anything more than allow Y/N to drag him around the kitchen, swaying to the music. When she started gently humming along, resting her head against his chest, he was convinced he was dreaming. There was something so ethereal about the situation.
It would have been the perfect opportunity to confess his feelings to her had he been able to put them into words. They had sprung on faster than he could truly register them. All he knew was that he had never felt the way he did about Y/N about anyone else. He wanted to be around her as much as possible; when he was away from her, he thought of her, it felt borderline obsessive, but he couldn’t stop. She was on his mind almost all of the time.
All too soon, the song ended, and she pulled away from him. “See,” She looked up at him with a small twinkle in her eyes. “You’re not a bad dancer.”
“Well,” Kyle had to clear his throat as his voice came out slightly hoarse from how dry his throat suddenly felt. “I didn’t really do anything. I just let you do all of the hard work.”
“Sometimes a good dancer is one who just knows when it’s time to let their partner take the lead,” She turned back to the kitchen counters to make the last few pancakes with the remaining batter. Kyle was speechless. He couldn’t think of any words worthy of saying to her in response. She deserved the best, and anything else would be a waste of her valuable time.
“Kyle?” Y/N turned, and Kyle realised she had said something to him that he missed.
“I’m so sorry. Could you repeat that?” He was worried she was upset with him, but her soft smile was enough to say that she wasn’t.
“I asked if you know if you have any lemon juice?” She asked, motioning over at the sugar on the side. “I like my pancakes a little sweet and sour.”
“Oh! Yeah!” He leaned forward, placing a hand on the counter next to Y/N and reaching over into the cupboard above her to retrieve the lemon juice. He hadn’t realised he had essentially just pinned her against the counter until he looked down to pass the lemon juice to her to see the completely bewildered look on her face at the sudden close contact. “S-Sorry,” His cheeks had flushed pink in embarrassment, but it took him another second to remember that he needed to step away so she could move, but to his shock, she had a hand on his waist, preventing him from moving. Keeping him where he was, she took the bottle from his hand and tilted her head a little to the side in curiosity, smiling up at him.
“Thank you,” She whispered, only then letting go of his waist. He stumbled a little as he took a step back. He shivered as her hand traced along his lower back when she walked past him. “Come on, let’s not let the pancakes get any more cold than they probably already are.”

a/n - oh loord... I struggled with the end of this one sorry besties did some self projecting lmao - angst warning sorry (but comfort included) 🥲
Tumblr media
The fear that the Broflovskis wouldn’t like her didn’t settle in for Y/N until she was following Kyle up the driveway. She had asked a million questions about his family so she would know what to say and what to avoid mentioning, but she suddenly couldn’t recall a single one.
Kyle didn’t get a chance to ring the doorbell before a shorter woman with red hair pressed in a perfect bun flung the door open.
“Kyle, bubbie!” She pulled him into what looked to be a bone-crushing hug, given how Kyle let out a pained breath of air as his lungs were constricted. “Oh, it is so good to see you! You don’t call enough! You should visit your poor mother more! Is this your guest?” She was talking at a mile a minute, pinching Kyle’s cheeks once she had released him from the hug. Y/N didn’t have a moment to register what was going on before she was being introduced.
“I text you every day…” Kyle groaned, rubbing his cheeks when his mom stopped pinching them so she could turn her attention to their new guest. “Mom, this is Y/N. Y/N, this is my mom.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs Broflovski,” Y/N just about managed to stop herself before she curtseyed to Kyle’s mom, realising it was entirely too formal and would just be weird. “Thank you so much for having me.”
“Oh, sweetheart, you can call me Sheila!” Y/N was pulled into her own bone-crushing hug without warning, Kyle mouthing a ‘sorry’ over his mom’s shoulder. Despite how little she could breathe, it was a lovely hug. “Come on; Kyle can take your bags in. I’ll give you a tour.” Before anyone could protest against this, Sheila was pulling Y/N into the house, introducing her very briefly to her husband, Gerald, and her other son, Ike. She barely got the chance to say hello before being dragged to see the rest of the house.
She showed Y/N where everything was, from rooms, to snacks, to where the tampons were kept in the bathroom, until they reached what Y/N assumed to be Kyle’s room.
“Kyle will sleep on the air mattress, and you can take his bed,” Sheila gestured at the temporary sleeping arrangement that had been set up. “Now, I know Kyle said that the two of you aren’t together, but for our peace of mind, we ask that you leave the door open.”
“Mom-” Kyle had managed to drag the two bags up the stairs to his room, looking a little out of breath. Y/N felt bad that she hadn’t been able to help him.
“Bubbie, this isn’t up for debate!” Sheila interrupted, wagging her finger in disapproval. “It was that, or we put you in Ike’s room while Y/N takes yours, but Ike wasn’t happy with that arrangement.”
“We’re happy to keep the door open,” Y/N confirmed before Kyle could protest again. She managed to slip past Sheila to grab her bag and help pull it into the room. Sheila had gotten distracted by something Gerald was shouting from the kitchen about turkey, so she disappeared downstairs. “I’ll take the airbed. I don’t want to take your bed from you.”
“No!” Kyle shook his head quickly. “You’re our guest. You take the bed.”
“Get a room!” Ike called out from the doorway, leaning against it with his arms crossed.
“Fuck off, Ike!” Kyle groaned, waving his arms in a shooing motion at his brother. “Besides, we’re in a room. You need to get out of it!” Y/N laughed as the two bickered in the doorway while she sat down on her bed. She looked around the room; it was clear that he hadn’t decorated it since his teen years, and his parents hadn’t touched it after he left for college. Basketball posters littered the wall, along with some older-looking Chinpokomon posters that had probably been there since childhood. A periodic table poster was placed on the ceiling directly over the bed, which made her smile. It had clearly been some sort of attempt at studying at bedtime.
“So, have you two fucked yet?” Ike’s words caught Y/N’s attention, her eyes widening and mouth agape at the brashness of the 16-year-old.
“Ike!” Kyle’s face was bright red. She couldn’t tell if it was out of anger, embarrassment, or a mixture of both. “I told you, we’re just friends!”
“Whatever! Just keep the moaning down!” Ike rolled his eyes, ignoring his brother’s denials. He turned away to leave, but not before he called out one last thing. “I share a wall with you, so I’ll hear everything!”
“I am so sorry about him,” Kyle groaned once Ike had disappeared down the hall, turning to look at Y/N with what was clearly now just pure embarrassment. “He’s at that age where-”
“Kyle, it’s okay,” Y/N smiled, reaching out to rub him comfortingly on the shoulder. “We’ve all been that age. I have definitely said much worse to people.”
“Doesn’t make it any better that he said that to you,” He mumbled, a little pout protruding from his face.
“You’re so cute,” She laughed, and he swore his heart skipped a beat, particularly when she pulled him in for a hug.
“Barf!” Ike had reappeared in the doorway. Kyle pulled away, his head snapping to turn and look at his brother.
“Ike! I swear to-” He was cut off by Ike making smooching sounds. That was the final straw as Kyle stormed over and slammed the door in his face.
“Mom!” Ike yelled down the stairs. “Kyle closed the door!”
“Kyle! Open the door!” Sheila called up from downstairs. “Ike, come set the table!” With a small sigh of relief, Kyle reopened the door when he heard Ike’s footsteps disappear down the hall.
“I really am sorry about this,” He groaned, turning back to look at Y/N. “If I had known, I would have just booked us a hotel room or something.”
“Kyle, it is fine, I promise!” Y/N insisted, sitting back down on the bed. It was comfortable and smelt like Kyle, even though he hadn’t been sleeping in it since he moved out for college. “It’s nice to be around a family for the holidays. Annoying brothers and all.”
Tumblr media
Dinner was absolutely lovely. Y/N couldn’t get enough of it. After living off of takeaways and microwave meals, anything would seem good, but Sheila’s cooking was truly something else. Y/N had stayed quite quiet throughout the meal, observing the family dynamics of the Broflovskis and smiling.
“So, Y/N,” Gerald, Kyle’s father, suddenly spoke up. “What are your plans for the future?” That question filled her with dread. She didn’t have a good answer for it.
“Dad!” Kyle noticed her discomfort immediately, jumping in to cover for her. “You can’t just ask-”
“No, it’s fine,” Y/N shook her head, deciding it was better to just admit the truth. “I admittedly don’t know yet. I’m still trying to figure some things out. I didn’t realise I had a choice to do what I wanted to until I got to college.”
“Why is that, dear?” Sheila asked, a twinge of concern present in her voice.
“Well, my mom decided what I would be before I was even born. Enrolled me in dance classes before I could even walk, sent me to dance schools where I only learnt the bare minimum required education, and wouldn’t let me so much as consider other options,” Y/N shrugged, hoping her explanation was enough for them and they wouldn’t dig too deep into it. She didn’t really feel like spilling her life story to her friend’s parents during their first dinner together when she would be spending the following couple of days with them.
“I tried to get Kyle into dance classes, but he tripped over his feet too much,” Sheila tutted, causing Kyle’s cheeks to redden in embarrassment. “He cried and cried until I picked him up.”
“Mom!” He groaned, hiding his head a little. “She doesn’t need to know that.”
“Do you drive?” Gerald spoke up again, his question once again directed at Y/N. She shook her head, not trusting herself to properly get her words out to explain that, no, she doesn’t drive. “Why not? Do you want to learn? Driving is a very important skill.”
Realising her hopes of disengaging from the line of questioning without saying anything had been dashed, Y/N placed down her fork.
“I uh… I have had three different driving instructors quit. The last one cried and begged me never to get behind the wheel again,” She explained quietly. “I’m just… Not good at it.”
“It’s just a shame to see potential being wasted,” Gerald’s words cut deeper than she could have ever anticipated. She suddenly didn’t feel hungry.
“Gerald!” Sheila’s voice was full of anger as she stood up. “Let’s talk in the kitchen.” The two disappeared to discuss something in a hushed tone. Y/N knew they were talking about her.
“I don’t feel well,” She sighed, standing up. “I think I’m going to go to bed.” Before she could be stopped, she hurried off up the stairs. She considered locking herself in the bathroom for a bit but decided it would be better to just curl up under the covers and pretend she didn’t exist for a while.
The door closed, and the bed sunk down next to her a minute later. She knew who it was before he spoke as he shuffled to lie next to her but on top of the covers.
“Are you okay?” It felt like a silly question, but it was the best Kyle could do.
“Your dad hates me,” Y/N mumbled, trying to hold back her tears. She felt pathetic for letting the comments get to her, but they did.
“He doesn’t hate you.”
“Were you at a different dinner table? Did you witness another train wreck of a conversation?”
“Y/N, I know my dad, and he doesn’t hate you.”
“Just thinks I’m a disappointment,” Y/N scoffed, peering out slightly from under the covers. “A waste of potential.”
“The fact that he asked you those questions and pushed for answers means he likes you,” Kyle explained. “If he hated you, he wouldn’t have spoken to you at all. He likes you and wants to see you succeed. He’s just got a crappy way of showing it.”
“I wish he hadn’t spoken to me….” She admitted quietly, eyes distant. Kyle did his best to pull her into a hug while she was under the covers, and he was on top of them, settling for just an arm over her.
“There’s something more, isn’t there?” It almost scared Y/N how well Kyle could pick up on how she was feeling. He noticed the smallest details.
“Wasted potential was one of my mom’s favourite ways to describe me,” She told him after a moment of silence. It hurt her knowing that, had he not used those exact words, Y/N would have likely been far less affected by them. She would have been able to brush it off. But those words cut deeper than anticipated, digging out old wounds she had tried to forget.
“I’m so sorry,” Kyle apologised. “If I had known-”
“It wouldn’t have changed anything,” She cut him off. She crawled out from under the covers to lay next to him on top of them, her head resting on his chest. “Do you remember how I told you I used to drink a lot in college and didn’t get hungover?”
“Yeah?” He started to play with her hair, just twirling one strand around his fingers. She wasn’t sure if it was a soothing technique meant to help her or him, but she was okay with it.
“I had an audition for Julliard. My mom wouldn’t stop talking about it and bragging to all of her friends. I was so nervous. I went out drinking the night before in New York, where I knew no one and didn’t know where I was. I was drunk and confused. Someone found me and drove me to the hospital after a few hours. I had to get my stomach pumped,” The story wasn’t one she had ever told anyone, not even Wendy and Bebe. It hurt too much to remember, even when she could barely recall most of it. “They managed to call my mom. I was so scared of how she’d react, and she was so angry when she got there. I expected her to yell at me for doing something so stupid and dangerous and life-threatening, for ruining my future… She didn’t do any of that. She told me she was disappointed that I had made her look bad.”
“She was more concerned for herself than for you,” Kyle’s phrasing confirmed that he was listening and that he understood what she was saying.
“I could have died… And she just….” Y/N could feel the tears finally making their escape, streaming down the side of her face and onto the pillow. “She didn’t care about me. She only cared about how I made her look.” Kyle pulled her as close as she could possibly get to him, his arms wrapped around her in the warmest and most soothing hug she had ever experienced.
“You deserve better,” He whispered, one of his hands still entwined in her hair as he played with it. Despite everything, Y/N had never felt more comfortable. They both jumped when Sheila opened the door after knocking once.
“Y/N, I am so sorry for my husband’s… pigheadedness,” She sighed. Kyle had instinctively jumped back as far as he could without falling off of the bed, his hand still caught in her hair as he didn’t want to pull on it. “I don’t usually allow food in rooms, but I’m making an exception just this once and brought pudding to you.”
“Thank you, Sheila,” Y/N sniffled a little, trying to wipe the tears from her eyes as she sat up, quickly managing to untangle Kyle’s hand from her hair as she did so. He sat up with her to turn and look at his mom. She placed a plate of brownies on the end of the bed, which he eagerly grabbed.
“Those are to share!” Sheila tutted in disapproval, causing Y/N to laugh a little. Kyle’s heart soared a little when he heard it, knowing it was a good sign that she was able to laugh. Hopefully, Thanksgiving wasn’t ruined completely, and she’d still want to stay. “I know I’ve said it before, but just a reminder that the door stays open, please.”

a/n - soooo little warning before we get into this one... it is a little teeny tiny itsy bitsy bit spicy - just like very small amount - but definitely where the fic starts to get 18+ 👀
Tumblr media
“Why did I agree to go tonight?” Y/N groaned as she examined her two options for costumes for Tweek and Craig’s party that were laid out on Bebe’s bed. One was a white dress with a black corset over the top and a pointy hat so she could be a witch, and the other was something out of Bebe’s closet. It was a skin-tight black latex dress that underwear simply could not be worn with. It had an incredibly low cut on the chest and was backless. That, paired with some fangs, was supposedly a vampire costume.
“You agreed to go tonight because the love of your life asked you,” Bebe grinned, twirling Y/N’s hair as she looked over her shoulder.
“Kyle and I aren’t even-” Y/N started to protest, but Bebe’s laugh stopped her in her tracks.
“I was referring to myself!” She grinned. Y/N wasn’t sure if it was just the little devil costume she was wearing, but Bebe looked more devious than before. “Funny how I mentioned love, and your mind automatically drifts to him.”
“Aren’t there any other costume options?” Y/N changed the subject, wanting to avoid addressing what Bebe had said. “The witch one is so boring, and the vampire is… borderline just lingerie.”
“Those are your choices!” Bebe shrugged. “Come on; you’ll look so hot as a vampire.”
“I’ll also be frozen,” Y/N pointed out. “It is the end of October in Colorado. Do you want me to die?”
“Vampires are cold! It’ll be accurate to the costume!” Bebe protested, picking the latex dress up and waving it in front of her. “You can just cuddle someone for warmth?”
Clyde walked into the bedroom, carrying a small tray with 6 shot glasses. “Or you could warm up with some shots?” He suggested, holding them out. “Two each! Let the alcohol get your blood pumping!”
“You know alcohol doesn’t actually warm you up, right?” Y/N pointed out, but Bebe lightly smacked her on the arm.
“Stop being all sciencey!” She pleaded, picking up a shot and holding it up to Y/N’s mouth. “Let loose for a night!”
“Or are you too chicken?” Clyde’s taunts were the straw that broke the camel's back for Y/N. She wouldn’t dare let him call her a chicken and get away with it. Grabbing the shot from Bebe’s hand, she downed it before grabbing a second from the tray and chasing the first down. She wasn’t sure what they were shots of, just that she had been hit with an overwhelming blast of cherry that almost made her eyes water.
“There she is!” Bebe cheered, downing a shot of her own. “Clyde, get out; Y/N needs to get changed!”
Tumblr media
“This wasn’t part of the plan!” Wendy’s mouth hung open in surprise as she watched Y/N down an entire glass of whatever people had poured into the punch bowl. There were at least 7 different alcoholic beverages in it. It was enough to leave even the best of drinkers unsteady on their feet.
“Wends, she wouldn’t put the dress on without a little liquid courage,” Bebe shrugged it off as Y/N returned to them with a blissful smile. “Isn’t it nice to see her let go for a night? Let the party animal loose?”
“How much have you had to drink?” Wendy asked Y/N directly, giving Bebe the side eye. She had seen when the party animal was let loose, and she knew why it was rarely ever let loose again.
“Two- wait, no… Three shots and two cups of whatever that stuff is,” As it was, Y/N wouldn’t seem very drunk to anyone who didn’t know her, but Wendy knew better. She was well on her way to getting wasted, and when Y/N started, she didn’t stop until she was made to. “You make the cutest little kitty!” She reached up to pet the cat ears that Wendy was wearing.
“See! She’s fine!” Bebe whispered. “We’ll just monitor her a bit to make sure she doesn’t drink too much more. Where is Kyle?”
“He’s with Stan,” Wendy nodded over in the direction. “But he’s the designated driver, so he’s limiting himself to one drink.”
“That wasn’t part of the plan either!” Bebe groaned, using Wendy’s own words against her.
“What plan?” Y/N asked, looking around when she heard Kyle’s name mentioned to see if she could find him. She spotted his taller frame over the crowd quickly. His hair was like a beacon. Her eyes lit up when she realised what his costume was. “He’s a vampire too!”
Kyle was dressed in a more traditional vampire costume as opposed to her revealing one. He had a cape with a dramatic upturned collar, a white button-up shirt with the first two buttons undone and dress pants. She could see two little white fangs protruding from his mouth when he opened it to talk to Stan.
She didn’t stick around to hear what Bebe and Wendy were saying about whatever their plan was, now focused on talking to Kyle. He must have been able to feel her eyes on him as he turned to look at her as soon as she started weaving through the crowd of partygoers to get to him.
“Fang friends!” Y/N grinned once she was close enough to him, proudly opening her mouth to show off her own fangs. Kyle couldn’t pay attention to that; he was too distracted by how incredible she looked in her dress. He wanted to be selfish and steal her away so no one else could see her, but she wasn’t his to be jealous over.
“I guess this is why Wendy wouldn’t let me change my costume last minute?” Kyle put on his best attempt at a normal smile while he tried to distract himself. She wasn’t making it any easier when she grabbed his arm and held it, seemingly for no reason other than to be close to him.
“Should we get some drinks?” She suggested, looking over at the table where the vast array of alcohol had been set out.
“I’m the designated driver,” Kyle shook his head. “Someone has to get you home safely.”
“I feel safe as long as I’m with you!” She spoke so confidently that Kyle had no choice but to believe it.
“What are you wearing?” Cartman gave Kyle his usual disapproving look, though this one was slightly more spurred on by alcohol. “You look so fucking stupid.” Kyle didn’t get a chance to defend himself as someone else jumped to the task.
“That’s rich coming from you, asshole,” Y/N tore him apart with her eyes, a judgemental scowl appearing as she scanned over every inch of his wolf costume. “What is this? A soft launch of your fursona?”
“I’m not a fucking furry!” Cartman denied loudly, causing some heads to turn.
“Dude, no need to get so defensive over it,” Y/N shrugged. “I’m sure your friends will accept you.”
“I am not a goddamn fucking furry!” He was mad, Kyle needed to stop this before it went further, but Y/N wasn’t one to back down.
“Sweetie, people don’t usually get that defensive unless there is truth in the claims,” She shrugged as though it were the most obvious thing in the world. “I mean, you do you, boo, but I think you’d be happier living your truth.”
“I am going to beat your ass, you bi-“ Kyle had to stop this before it divulged into a full-blown fight. He took Y/N by the arm and pulled her away while Cartman threw out threats. Y/N looked like she was about to wiggle away to continue the argument when Cartman yelled out that he wasn’t afraid to hit a girl, but Clyde came to the rescue carrying 3 shots of something alarmingly green.
“Let’s loosen up!” He cheered, holding out a shot to each of them. Y/N took one without hesitation, but Kyle refrained.
“I’m driving, so no shots for me,” He wouldn’t have taken one even if he wasn’t the designated driver, but what Clyde didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.
“More for us!” Y/N grinned, grabbing Kyle’s shot and downing both shots one after another. He watched in bewilderment, knowing she didn’t usually drink. He flinched when Clyde slapped both of their backs a little rougher than he probably intended due to how drunk he already was.
“Come on, Y/N!” He grinned and pulled her away from Kyle. “Let’s go play beer pong!” To Kyle’s shock, she agreed with no hesitation, and he was left to watch her trail after Clyde to the table that had been set up.
Tumblr media
Kyle had spent the night babysitting a drunk and emotional Stan with Wendy while Y/N was dragged around by Clyde. It was strange to see the two together and genuinely getting along without any of their usual play fightings. There was so clearly nothing going on between them, but Kyle couldn’t help but feel jealous. He had drunk one single beer over the night, hoping it would alleviate his petty concerns, but it didn’t.
It wasn’t until two hours into the party that Y/N finally returned to him. He had been sitting on the couch feeling bad for himself after Wendy had called a cab for her and Stan. He didn’t want to leave until Y/N did, so he knew she was safe, but he didn’t want to tell her it was time to go and stop the fun she was clearly having. He silently mourned their plan of being miserable and bitter until they were kicked out of the part.
While pouting and feeling sorry for himself, Y/N flopped down onto the couch next to Kyle. Instinctively, he reached over to pull her skirt down so she didn’t flash everyone. She was clearly quite drunk and didn’t notice.
“Hiiiii Kyle!” Her words were ever so slightly slurred, but you wouldn’t notice it unless you knew how she was normally.
“Hi, Y/N. Are you okay?” He asked, hoping she was coming over to say she wanted to leave.
“You know… You are so amazing,” Y/N looped her arm around Kyle’s neck, pressing a kiss to his cheek. He thought back to when she had done it accidentally on that first day. She said she usually kissed her friends on the cheek; it meant nothing. His heart shouldn’t be racing so much at a gesture that meant nothing. “I’m so glad I met you.”
“I’m glad I met you too,” Kyle admitted, hoping that the dark lighting disguised his blush as she climbed onto his lap, nuzzling her face into the crook of his neck. That wasn’t something she claimed to regularly do with friends; at least, he hoped not. “But you are very drunk.”
“And you are very pretty,” She cooed, one of her hands reaching up to play with the hair at the nape of his neck. It sent shivers down his back, and he had to try and stop himself from arching his back and pressing his chest against hers more than it already was. “My pretty boy.”
“I think it’s time to go home now,” He hoped that changing the subject would distract him from his growing arousal at the praise. She was drunk; this wasn’t right. “Come on, let’s get you home and to bed.” He patted her leg to try and hint that she needed to get off of his lap, but she clung to him harder, which really wasn’t helping him avoid getting harder. He needed to get her home and tucked up in bed before she did something he was worried she would regret in the morning. She appeared to be a very touchy-feely drunk with him, though he had watched her the whole night, and she hadn’t been like it with anyone else.
“Carry me?” She pleaded. He could feel her hot breath tickling his neck. He sighed, knowing it wasn’t wise to carry her the way she was currently wrapped around him as, even drunk, he was sure she would soon be able to feel the effect she had on him. It was embarrassing. He felt like a horny teenager again.
To try and avoid intimate areas of contact, he managed to shift her around in his lap, narrowly avoiding having her brush up against him as he lifted her up bridal style. Y/N giggled, and he could feel her eyelashes fluttering against his jawline. It made him shiver again despite the stiflingly hot air in Tweek and Craig’s crowded apartment.
He looked around for any sign of Clyde or Bebe but came up empty. They were either in a bedroom or bathroom somewhere together, or they had gone home without Y/N. He could tell, based on how skin-tight Y/N’s dress was, that there was no way she had a pocket with her keys in, so he would have to take her back to his. It wasn’t ideal, but it was the best option he had. He would just sleep on the sofa or on his floor while she took the bed. With how clingy she was in public, he didn’t think he could cope with sharing a bed with her in that state. She didn’t know what she was doing.
Doing his best to wave goodbye to Tweek and Craig as he left, he carried Y/N to his car, placing her down on the passenger seat and leaning over to fasten her seatbelt. He tried to get back up afterwards, but she wouldn’t let go of him, her arms wrapped around his neck to hold him close to her.
“You’re going to have to release me, or I won’t be able to drive,” He mumbled, trying to peel her arms away from him. It wasn’t working; she was very strong for a drunk girl. “I promise I will hug you again when we get home.” At that promise, she finally let go and slumped into the seat with a pout.
“Hurry! It’s cold!” She complained, fiddling with her seatbelt while Kyle got into the driver’s seat and started up the car.
“You’re barely wearing anything; no wonder you’re cold,” He laughed nervously, grabbing his coat from where he had left it on the backseat and wrapping it around her. “I’ll go as fast as I’m legally allowed to.”
“This is why you’re the bestest,” Y/N sighed happily, snuggling up against the coat. One hand peaked out and rested on Kyle’s thigh, which would have been sweet had it not been so distracting while he was trying to drive. He just hoped the journey home was a fast one.

a/n - hnngghhh i wasn't going to post a chapter every day because i wanted to have a backlog of chapters just in case but i love seeing y'all react to alaysh and i have 0 self control so... chapter 5 baybeee
Tumblr media
Y/N was halfway through her 8-hour shift by the time she managed to stop for a break to check her phone again without Jay spotting her and dragging her back out to the front of the diner. Anxiety had been eating her up, wondering if Kyle had messaged her back and how he had reacted to it. She wasn’t sure if she was relieved or more nervous when she saw that she had a notification from him. Trying not to overthink it more than she already had been, which was nearly impossible as she had greatly overthought it, she opened the message.
kyle 📗 : Hey! No worries!
kyle 📗 : I completely get it. I still grab Stan’s hand to cross the road because I used to do that for my little brother 😅
Just like that, all of Y/N’s nerves that had been building up for 4 hours dissipated in an instant. Kyle didn’t think she was a complete weirdo. Or, at least, he didn’t openly say it to her, which was good enough. Most people thought of her as a little weird anyway.
y/n 💕 : thank god 😭
y/n 💕 : Wendy does that to me, but she’s an only child so she has no excuse!
y/n 💕 : really sorry for the late response, work has been chaos - I can’t wait to get out of here
Y/N didn’t expect Kyle to respond instantly, but she was happy he did, as it gave her something to do on her 5-minute break besides scroll Twitter until she got annoyed at some piss-poor take and close it again, only to open it a second later and repeat the process.
kyle 📗 : What time do you finish?
y/n 💕 : not until 10pm so I have another 4 hours
kyle 📗 : Is Bebe going to pick you up?
y/n 💕 : nah, I usually walk it - its only 20 minutes
y/n 💕 : or I get an Uber if its raining but I try not to do that too often as they can get pricey at that time
kyle 📗 : I don’t want to sound rude, but isn’t that area known for being a bit dangerous at night?
y/n 💕 : I guess it’s not great, but it could be worse?
y/n 💕 : only two homicides in the past year!
y/n 💕 : I have my pepper spray and a mean high-kick!
kyle 📗 : I’ll come and get you at 10pm to take you home.
kyle 📗 : to your house that is
kyle 📗 : not mine
kyle 📗 : sorry that came out wrong
kyle 📗 : You can come back to mine if you want, but I figured you’d rather go back to yours.
Y/N couldn’t stop herself from giggling at her phone as Kyle’s texts came through in the space of seconds. He texted so formally until he was panicking, and then the punctuation and capitalised letters were dropped.
y/n 💕 : that would be great, thank you, but I don’t want you staying up late on account of me
y/n 💕 : gotten this far without being the third homicide 😅
kyle 📗 : My first lecture isn’t until 11am tomorrow, so I don’t need to be up early.
kyle 📗 : I don’t usually get to sleep until late anyway.
y/n 💕 : I have to get back to serving customers before my boss catches me
y/n 💕 : thank you so much, I really owe you one! I’ll see you later
The rest of Y/N’s shift seemed to pass by a lot faster than the first half, aside from one incident with a very disgruntled man who had to eventually be kicked out by Doris.
“I’ll finish cleaning that, hun,” Doris grabbed the cloth from Y/N’s hands and pointed over at the window. “Your boyfriend is outside waiting for you. Has been for five minutes.” Y/N’s head perked up as she saw Kyle’s car.
“He’s not my-” She started to protest, but Doris waved her hands dismissively.
“Yeah, yeah!” She scoffed, gently pushing Y/N towards the breakroom so she could grab her bag. “Jay packed up two lots of food for you earlier. Don’t forget to grab it on your way out.”
“How did you know he’d be picking me up?” Y/N asked once she had grabbed her bag and the two take-out boxes full of fries.
“You’ve had that dopey smile on your face all evening,” Doris shook her head as though it were perfectly obvious. “Don’t keep him waiting then.” She quite literally pushed Y/N out of the door, locking it behind her so she couldn’t get back in and complain about it. With a roll of her eyes, she made her way over to where Kyle was leaning against his car, looking at his phone.
“Hey, stranger,” She laughed, catching his attention. He looked up and smiled as he saw her. The flickering light that barely illuminated the car park caused his red hair to almost glow. “Long time no see!”
“You’ve changed so much, I almost didn’t recognise you!” Kyle played along with the joke, opening the door for Y/N. She was warmed by the polite action.
“Ah, yes,” She chuckled once he’d gotten into the driver’s seat. “That would be the grease, sweat, and humidity causing my hair to defy gravity.”
“Ha! Mine doesn’t need any of that!” Kyle gestured at his curly red hair, running a hand through it to make it stick up. Y/N watched as it stuck in the same position when he moved his hand away. “What have you got?” He nodded over at the two boxes of take-out in her hands while trying to smooth his hair back into a presentable shape.
“What have we got?” She corrected, passing him one of the boxes. “Probably just fries. Nowhere near as good as the ones from the place Kenny works, but they hit the spot after being on your feet for 8 hours,” She opened her box to confirm that, yes, it was just full of fries. “You don’t have to eat them if you don’t want them. Doris insisted on me bringing them for you.”
“And here I was thinking you had done it out of the kindness of your heart,” Kyle teased, his smile betraying his seriousness. “I’m actually starving. I forgot to stop to eat after taking Stan and Wendy home. I just shut myself in my room all evening so they couldn’t complain to me about how hungover they were and ask me to do things for them.”
“Cheers!” Y/N held up one of the fries, Kyle did the same, and they tapped them together, eating them in unison.
“Oh… wow…” He looked down at the box of fries, eating a couple more. “These are…”
“Terrible, right?” She laughed, eating her own at an alarming rate.
“Yeah… Why can’t I stop eating them?”
“Because they are the best worst fries you’ll ever have!”
“So, how was work?” Kyle asked.
“It was pretty average,” Y/N shrugged. “Except for this one asshole of a customer.”
“What happened?”
“Okay, so,” She shuffled to get herself comfortable before she started giving the rundown of the situation. “I asked him what he wanted, and he said ‘egg’. That’s it, nothing else, just ‘egg’. So I was like, cool, sure, how do you want your egg? And he said ‘normal’.”
“What the hell does that mean?”
“Exactly! So obviously, I asked him what he meant by that, and he said ‘normal egg’ again, and I was trying to explain to him that just repeating the words wouldn’t make me understand them, but he kept on insisting that he just wanted ‘normal egg with absolutely nothing else’.”
“So what did you do?”
“I went to the kitchen and got an uncooked egg and just placed it in front of him.”
“How did he react?”
“He lost it! Doris wanted to kick him out there and then, but I couldn’t let him leave without knowing what the fuck ‘normal egg’ was to him. I was asking him to describe it, and he just kept on repeating that he wanted ‘normal egg’ until, eventually, he pointed at another guy’s plate and said that, obviously, that’s what he meant. Guess what he wanted.”
“Oh no… what did he want?”
“An omelette! You know, that thing where the egg is just one part of it, and you add a bunch of other shit to it? And he looked at me like I was stupid because I didn’t understand that a ‘normal egg with absolutely nothing else’ clearly meant that he wanted an omelette with ham, chicken, cheese, and pepper!”
“Did he get his omelette in the end?” Kyle was laughing as the story went on, seeming to be genuinely interested in it. It made a nice change from when Bebe would pretend to listen to Y/N’s work stories so she could have a turn talking about what she did in her day.
“Made him wait 20 minutes thinking he’ll get his stupid ‘normal egg’ until Doris kicked him out,” Y/N snorted at the memory of how furious the man looked, announcing he would be leaving a terrible review of the place. “I’m just glad he didn’t wait to jump me outside after my shift.”
“Has that ever happened?” Kyle’s smile dropped in a split second, suddenly incredibly concerned. “Has someone tried to attack you after work?”
“Once!” She admitted. “But it was just some scrawny drunk asshole who could barely stand, let alone throw a punch. He fell over after one swing, and I kicked him in the balls for good measure.”
“Send me your work schedule,” He requested, tapping his phone, which had been resting on the dashboard.
“Why?” Y/N laughed softly. “What are you going to do? Are you gonna escort me to and from work each shift to make sure I stay out of trouble?”
“Yes,” She had been joking, but Kyle seemed very serious.
“It’s not a big deal, really,” She sighed. “I’ve been working this job since I moved here. Incidents like that are few and far between.”
“If you won’t tell me, I’ll just ask Bebe and Wendy for it,” He shrugged. “You shouldn’t have to risk being jumped by a pissed-off customer while walking home late at night.” Y/N could sense that she wasn’t going to win this fight.
“Yes, sir,” She sighed dramatically, not noticing how red Kyle’s face turned at the title. She patted his thigh. “Come on, are you gonna take me home, or were you planning on sitting in your car together all night?”
Tumblr media
Sitting in her lecture with nothing but pure fury in her eyes, Y/N pulled her phone out and opened up her messages.
y/n 💕 : did you forget that I sit behind you?
y/n 💕 : those chips have a label with my name on it
y/n 💕 : this is an english class and you can’t even read
y/n 💕 : explain yourself
clyde 🕹 : i thought the label was a joke lol 😅
y/n 💕 : you’re the fucking joke here
clyde 🕹 : i’ll buy you some more chill out 🙄
y/n 💕 : this is strike two
clyde 🕹 : what?
clyde 🕹 : what was strike 1?
y/n 💕 : walking around the apartment naked
y/n 💕 : which you have done four times so you’re lucky I’m only counting it as one
clyde 🕹 : do you want the chips back?
y/n 💕 : after your grubby hands have been in the packet rubbing against them?
y/n 💕 : hard pass dude
Clyde turned his head to look at Y/N as she sat behind him in the lecture. She flipped him the middle finger, and he rolled his eyes. Over the two and a half weeks that Clyde had been living in the apartment, the two had developed a relationship akin to siblings, where they would bicker one second, and then it was like everything was fine, and they had never argued the next. Y/N had even surprised herself by willingly spending time with him on multiple occasions when she didn’t have to.
“Are we getting food after this?” Y/N bent down to ask him as their lecture finished and the other students started to pack up.
“You won’t take the chips because my hands have touched them, but you still expect me to drive you around?” Clyde scoffed at her, leaning back in his seat so his head rested against the back of the desk Y/N had been working on. “Don’t you have a shift at the diner?”
“Shitttt,” She groaned, closing her eyes in disappointment. “Can you drop me off at home, please? I don’t have my uniform.”
“Sorry, babe, I’ve got plans with Craig, Tweek, and Tolkien,” He shrugged, giving her a half-hearted empathetic smile. Y/N had gotten to know the other people from South Park during Clyde’s stay at the apartment. She got along with them decently well, but no one compared to how close she had become with Kyle. They studied together almost every day, and he had insisted on following through with his plans to take her to and from work on days when she didn’t have any other transport so she wouldn’t have to walk it.
“Gross, never call me babe again.”
“But Bebe calls you babe?”
“I like Bebe.”
“Wow, I’m definitely not giving you a ride now.”
“You weren’t going to anyway, dickwad!” Y/N was distracted when her phone buzzed in her pocket. Clyde took this as an opportunity to escape while she wasn’t looking, but she threw up another middle finger as she caught him slinking away from the corner of her eye.
kyle 📗 : Do you need a ride today?
y/n 💕 : your timing is perfect as always! 🥰
y/n 💕 : yes please! I completely forgot I had work today so I need to grab my uniform from home if thats okay with you?
kyle 📗 : Of course 😊
kyle 📗 : Be there in two minutes, I’m just around the corner.
True to his word, Kyle was there within two minutes, almost exactly on the dot. Y/N felt guilty about how much he had been driving her around in the two and a half weeks that they had known one another, but he was always the one to offer.
“Before I forget, your apron is in the trunk,” Kyle gestured behind him while Y/N climbed into the passenger’s seat. “You left it in here the other day. I managed to get that one stain out.”
“You cleaned it for me?” She grinned at him, securing her seatbelt. “That stain has been there for a month. How did you get it out?” The stain had come from a customer knocking a bottle of ketchup over and accidentally dropping their bag on it; it splattered everywhere. Jay had to get it off the ceiling. She didn’t know what was in the ketchup, but it looked like watered-down blood splattered on her apron after scrubbing it for an hour straight.
“My mom used to make me help with the washing whenever I was in trouble,” He chuckled a little uncomfortably. “I was in trouble a lot, so I got really good at it.”
“Wow! What a little rebel! Who knew?” She teased, drumming her fingers against the dashboard as Kyle started driving.
“Yeah, well, the guys would always drag me into their schemes. Someone had to be the voice of reason.”
“You’ll have to teach me your cleaning secrets. I have some shirts with some pesky stains that I haven’t been able to get out with anything.”
“Bring them to me, and I’ll sort them,” Kyle smiled as he caught a glimpse of Y/N’s grin out of the corner of his eye. It had been so easy to grow attached to her. He couldn’t remember what he did all day without her.

a/n - "the last daily update for now" I lied... like a liar... because I stayed up until 3am last night writing
I'm just loving writing this fic and I can't stop 😭
Tumblr media
An unfamiliar alarm woke Y/N from her deep sleep. Blurry-eyed, she looked over at her alarm clock to see it was 9:00am.
“Shit, I’m so sorry. I thought I had turned that off,” Kyle groaned, quickly turning the alarm on his phone off. “You can go back to sleep, sorry.”
“It’s fine,” She yawned, remembering why Kyle was in her bed in the first place after a second or two of confusion. It was then that she realised that she had her arms and legs wrapped around him, something she had apparently done in her sleep. Trying not to come across as mortified by this as she felt, she slowly untangled herself from him. Sadly, the mortification had only just begun as she spotted the patch of drool that she had left behind on his shirt, which was not the shirt that he had gone to sleep in.
This meant that Kyle had woken up, gotten out of bed to get changed, and then when he sat back down on the bed, Y/N started to cuddle and drool on him while he was still awake and aware of it the entire time.
“Oh god,” She groaned, looking around for a tissue to wipe the corner of her mouth, eventually settling for her sleeve when she couldn’t find one. “I’m really sorry for drooling on you.”
“It’s okay!” Kyle insisted with a smile that told you that it truly was okay. He wasn’t in the slightest annoyed. Unfortunately, that didn’t ease Y/N’s embarrassment. “It was cute- not a big deal.” He stumbled over his words, unable to catch himself in time to stop the original admission. Fortunately for him, Y/N was too lost in her own embarrassment to pick up on his.
“Do you want some breakfast?” She yawned, stretching out. “I don’t know what we have in the kitchen- that’s a lie, I know what we have in the kitchen, and it’s nothing. Do you want to order something in?”
“There is a really good cafe around the corner from the library. We could pick something up from there?” Kyle suggested, pausing slightly as he spoke. “Uh- that’s if you want to study at the library, I know we spoke about it yesterday, so I just assumed that you would- but it was probably really rude of me to assume that you-” Without the tiny bit of alcohol he had in his system the night before, Kyle was suddenly incredibly nervous. Y/N cut him off before he got caught in a loop of apologies.
“I’d love to!” She smiled, swinging her legs over the bed. “I do have work at 2:00pm, but that gives us a few hours.”
“Where do you work?”
“Jay’s Diner, it’s like a 20-minute walk from here,” Y/N rifled through her dresser for some clothes for the day. “It’s in the opposite direction of the library, but I’ll just make sure I leave in time to get back here and get changed into my uniform.”
“I live right around the corner from the library. You could always bring your uniform back to mine and change there, and I’ll drive you to the diner?” Kyle suggested, looking up the diner on Google Maps to make sure he knew where it was. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to!”
“That would be really helpful, thank you,” She turned her head to look at him and give him a very genuine smile. “I’m going to quickly shower before we leave. Feel free to watch whatever; I won’t be long!” She gestured to the remote on the side before rushing off to shower before anyone else woke up and beat her to it. Though, with the amount they drank, they would probably be knocked out until gone midday.

best friends
y/n 💕 : hello my hungover honeys
y/n 💕 : we’re going to the library to study
y/n 💕 : and then I have work
y/n 💕 : so if you need me - no you don’t
kyle 📗 : I’ll have my phone on silent in the library, but I’ll be free later to pick Stan & Wendy up since they don’t have their keys.
y/n 💕 : more aspirin on the kitchen counter and you’re all big boys and girls who can get your own water
y/n 💕 : if anyone pukes it better be cleaned up by the time I get home tonight
clyde 🕹 : sfawd
y/n 💕 : I’ll pretend I know what that means
“I’m so glad you talked me into that second cupcake,” Y/N smiled, doing a happy good food wiggle as she finished off the cupcake Kyle had convinced her to get and save for lunch once they were finished in the library. “I tend to just steal fries from the diner when I get there for lunch.”
“On Wednesdays, they have half off on the doughnuts. I’ll grab you some next time,” Kyle explained while he unlocked the door to his, Stan, and Wendy’s apartment. It was nice, a lot nicer than Y/N’s. She could see why Wendy was keen to move in. “You can get changed in my room. Do you want anything to eat or drink before you go?”
“A glass of water would be great, thank you!” Y/N smiled, grabbing her work uniform from her bag and making her way to the room Kyle had pointed at. It was neat and tidy. She expected nothing different from him. He seemed so put together. Law books were piled on the desk, along with pieces of paper with the neatest handwriting she had ever seen on them. She didn’t want to snoop, but she couldn’t help but admire it all as she got changed. She tied the apron around her waist. She always took it home because she had lost 5 while working there thanks to her coworkers forgetting theirs, and she wasn’t a fan of sharing.
“Oooh! A Brita filter?” Y/N grinned as she emerged from Kyle’s room, clothes in hand, just as he was pouring the glass of water. “How fancy; I’ll feel like a princess drinking in luxury.”
“It’s not that fancy, is it?” Kyle looked down at the water filter in confusion.
“They found a dead pigeon in the water tank at my apartment,” She shrugged nonchalantly before chugging the entire glass in one go. “So anything more than that is a step up for me.” He looked absolutely horrified. She assumed (and hoped) it was due to the dead pigeon as opposed to the speed at which she drank the water.
“I’m personally going to buy you a water filter,” He mumbled, shaking his head in disbelief. “Did the water not taste- Actually, no, I don’t want the details.”
“I spat it out after a mouthful because it was rancid. They’ve fixed it now… mostly,” Y/N laughed, stuffing the clothes she had been wearing back into her backpack. “It was nice to have a study buddy today. Thank you.”
“We should do it again sometime- if you want to, that is!” Kyle let out a breath of relief when Y/N nodded in eager agreement. He grabbed his keys from the counter and jingled them. “You ready to go?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be to face work,” She snorted in laughter, following Kyle out of the apartment and down to where he had parked his car. It was as neat as his room, unlike Bebe’s car, which looked like a travelling wardrobe. She actually had legroom when she sat down, playfully kicking her legs like a child on a swing. Kyle gave her a curious look but quietly laughed it off.
The journey felt faster than usual, though Kyle stuck religiously to the speed limit. Y/N supposed it was just because they were engaged in conversation the entire time, sharing stories from their classes. She found herself disappointed when he pulled up in the car park of the diner.
“Thank you for driving me here,” Y/N turned her head to smile at him.
“It was nothing. Thanks for letting me stay at yours last night.”
“I’m still sorry about drooling on you.”
“Don’t worry about it, really!”
“I’ll text you later. We should meet up again to study,” Y/N leaned over without thinking and pressed a kiss to Kyle’s cheek. “Bye!” He was too flustered to respond as she hopped out of the car and made her way inside the diner, going straight behind the counter to dump her bag in the breakroom and clock in.
“Who’s your new boyfriend?” Doris, the owner’s wife, grinned at Y/N as she walked in. Doris was Y/N’s work mom. She would always stick up for her if a customer got rude. She was rough, gruff, and gave the best hugs.
“Kyle?” Y/N looked back at the car park just as Kyle was driving away. “He’s just a new friend.”
“Do you kiss all of your friends?” Doris teased, wiping down the counter as she spoke.
“Well, I always kiss Bebe on the cheek whenever she drops me off at work?” Y/N shrugged casually before the words hit her. “Holy shit- did I kiss him on the cheek?”
“Language, young lady!” Jay, the owner of the diner, emerged from the kitchen, waggling his finger disapprovingly.
“Oh, you’re one to talk, you old bag,” Doris tutted at her husband, pushing him back into the kitchen and turning her attention back to Y/N. “So you didn’t mean to kiss him?”
“He probably thinks I got the wrong message from our study date- not date, meeting? Study meeting? Session! That’s the word! Study session!” Y/N mumbled frantically, her thoughts running at 100 miles a minute while she rummaged through her bag for her phone. “I’ll start working in a minute. I need to do some damage control.”
“I’ll clock your pay for that!” Jay called out, only to be shushed by his wife.
“No, he won’t!”
y/n 💕 : kyle, its y/n
y/n 💕 : I am so so so sorry for that
y/n 💕 : I usually kiss Bebe on the cheek when she drops me off at work and it was habit
y/n 💕 : I was on autopilot I am so sorry I didn’t even realise I had done it until doris asked about it
In a state of panic, she texted Bebe as well. Fortunately, Bebe was available to respond to her.
y/n 💕 : I did a fuck up
bebe 💋 : I’ve got plan B in my dresser you can grab it when you’re home xx
y/n 💕 : wow okay that’s good to know but thats not the kind of fuck that I done gone did up
bebe 💋 : babe I’m too hungover for this
bebe 💋 : use normal words pls
y/n 💕 : you know how I kiss you on the cheek to say thank you for dropping me off at work?
y/n 💕 : because I adore you and you deserve it and I can’t afford gas money?
bebe 💋 : compliment me more to jog my memory
y/n 💕 : you have amazing tits
y/n 💕 : and I wasn’t thinking so when kyle dropped me off I kissed his cheek
y/n 💕 : but I didn’t even realise I did it until I was in the diner and he had driven away
bebe 💋 : AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
bebe 💋 : and thank you xx
y/n 💕 : I have to start working but he’s not texted me back
y/n 💕 : I’m deadass mortified
bebe 💋 : don’t worry baby
bebe 💋 : kyle is smart and probs knows how lucky he is to have gotten a kiss from a goddess
y/n 💕 : ily thank you
bebe 💋 : ily more but i have to go puke xxx
Y/N sighed and threw her phone back into her bag. She felt better for a second after texting Bebe, but when she checked back on her messages to Kyle, any and all alleviated nerves flooded back.
He hadn’t read the messages yet, but she realised Kyle was probably still driving home and wouldn’t get the texts until he stopped. She would have to sneak back and check her phone during work and hope that Jay wouldn’t catch her. Not that Doris would let him do anything more than give her his usual disapproving stare whenever she slacked off in the slightest.
With a deep breath, she tried to push away her nerves and put on a smile so she could greet the customers, hoping her shaking hands wouldn’t drop any of the plates. Jay had been keeping track of the plates and bowls she broke since starting, threatening to dock her pay, but Doris wouldn’t let him. She was already at 27 plates, 8 bowls, and 15 mugs and feared that number would double if she didn’t get a response soon.
“Come on, Kyle…”

a/n - 2.8k words for this one 💀 i need to catch up writing because i simply can't refrain myself from posting a chapter a day
fortunately i am british and we have a long bank holiday weekend so the next 3 days are gonna be full of writing
Tumblr media
“Wait!” Kyle called out as Y/N started walking towards the diner after saying her goodbyes and thank yous for dropping her off.
He pulled her apron, neatly folded over and cleaned, out of the trunk of his car. He began jogging over to her to hand it over, but his foot managed to catch on something. Before he could register what was happening, Kyle flew through the air. He landed on the ground, one hand on the apron, which helped cushion his fall, but the other wasn’t so lucky as it slid across the gravel of the car park. “Shit, that hurt….”
“Oh god, Kyle,” Y/N ran over to him, he wanted to tell her not to in case she tripped as well, but she was next to him within seconds, his injured hand cradled in her own hands, inspecting the damage. “We need to get this cleaned! Are you okay to walk? Did you hurt your legs at all? Is your back okay?”
“Just my hand,” He sighed, looking down at the now-soiled apron that he had spent about an hour making sure was perfectly clean for Y/N. “I hope I didn’t scuff your apron up.”
“Fuck my apron!” She shook her head, flicking the apron to the side. “I don’t give a shit about that, but I do give a shit about you! Come on; there is a first-aid kit in the diner.” She carefully pulled him to his feet and walked him towards the door. One arm was looped around his waist as she held the wrist of the hand that was injured out in front. She didn’t need to support him as he walked, he was perfectly fine aside from his hand, but he saw the determined look on her face and realised that even if he insisted he was okay, she wouldn’t believe it until she knew for certain.
The warmth of the diner was a stark contrast to the cold October air of Denver. “Finally letting us meet your-” Doris had perked up as soon as she saw Y/N guiding Kyle in. She had been begging to meet him since day 1.
“Not right now, Doris!” Y/N interrupted, leading Kyle behind the counter to the small break room next to the kitchen. It was just a square room with two chairs and a table, barely bigger than a supply closet, really, but it was out of sight from the rest of the diner. “Grab the first-aid kit for me.” Without another word, Doris disappeared for a second and reappeared with a little green box.
“It’s really not that bad,” Kyle mumbled, but Y/N wouldn’t listen as she gently took his hand and started to wipe it down with an anti-septic cleaner. He hissed at the pain but tried to suppress it as he worried she would think he was weak. Doris decided she couldn’t do much to help, so she left the two be and went back to the front counter to continue serving customers, though there fortunately weren’t many.
Kyle and Y/N sat in silence while she cleaned and bandaged up his hand, the only noises being his occasional hiss of pain. Each time, she would gently soothe him by stroking her thumb across his wrist, which worked wonders in distracting him. Unfortunately, it just flustered him.
“I think that is the best I can do with what we have,” She broke the silence after inspecting her work to ensure everything was bandaged properly. “Oooh! I can do one more thing!” She picked his hand up and drew it close to her face, placing a feather-light kiss on the bandage. If Kyle wasn’t blushing before, he definitely was after that.
“Did you just…” He paused as he tried to comprehend what happened. “Did you just kiss it better?”
“Hopefully!” She grinned at him, placing his hand back down on the table. “How does it feel? Can you hold anything?”
“Uh… Not sure…” Kyle looked around for something to hold to see if he could do it without pain, but Y/N beat him to it by slipping her hand in his. He would have enjoyed it if it didn’t hurt so much.
“I hope that face is because you’re in pain and not because you hate holding my hand,” Y/N laughed, letting go. She froze, her own words processing in her mind. “I’m so sorry! That completely came out wrong! I didn’t mean to say that I hope you’re in pain; I hope you’re not in pain, but you clearly are, and I am just making things worse by talking….” Kyle surprised himself and her when he leaned over and used his good hand to pull her into a hug. Up until that point, she had initiated every hug as he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.
“Thank you for taking care of me,” He whispered, pulling away and settling back down in his seat. He froze as he saw a man in the doorway. His expression was unreadable to Kyle, possibly somewhere between annoyance and anger, but it was really difficult to tell. “I don’t mean to alarm you, but there is-“
“Jay, I’ll be out in a minute!” Y/N groaned, not needing to look around to know her boss was in the doorway. He grunted and turned back around to go back to the kitchen. “Sorry, he gets grumpy when people don’t work to his standard… and when they do… He’s always grumpy… Do you want me to call someone to come and get you? You can’t drive with your hand like that.” Kyle didn’t want to leave. Y/N was only working for 4 hours, and he didn’t want her making her own way home late at night when he wouldn’t even have a car to drive to get her if she needed him because it would be stuck in the car park.
“Do you mind if I stay here?” He asked. “I’ll sit back in the diner and study until your shift is over.”
“That’s not for another 4 hours!” She shook her head, leaning back in her seat as she looked at him. “Wouldn’t you be more comfortable at home?”
“I’d be more comfortable here with-“ He almost said he’d be more comfortable with her. It was true, but he didn’t want to make things weird between them. “I’ve got my books with me, so I can just study, which is what I would be doing anyway.”
“You’ll get all the crappy free coffee and food you want,” Y/N smiled, giving in. “Come on; I’ll sit you in the best spot. The window has a great view of the dumpster, and sometimes a raccoon will pop out. His name is Big Dave, and he is a single father raising two little girls.”
Kyle didn’t pay much attention to studying while he was in the diner. He couldn’t keep his eyes off of Y/N as she worked. She had an answer to every question from every customer, and she delivered them so confidently. Even when a customer was rude, she had a smile on her face that seemed genuine.
The only exception was when a woman kicked up a fuss after paying for her burger and fries.
“Here is your change, ma’am,” Y/N handed over the cash after the woman paid at the register. She seemed to be in her late 40s or early 50s, and her scowl was one that rivalled Cartman’s when he didn’t get his way.
“This is the wrong amount,” She scoffed. “I gave you two $20 bills.”
“You gave me one $20 bill, your total was $15.67, and I gave you $4.33 change. You didn’t give me a tip,” Y/N calmly explained. “I can ask my manager to double-check my math if you want?”
“I gave you two $20s!” The woman repeated herself, crossing her arms and stamping a foot on the floor. “You need to give one back.”
“Ma’am, it has been a slow evening so far,” Y/N had taken a deep breath before speaking. Kyle watched from his booth, absolutely mesmerised by how poised she was able to stay despite how aggressive the woman had already become. “There is one singular $20 bill in this register. It is the first one we have received tonight. It is lonely, and if you listen close, you can hear its cries for companionship. If you had given me two $20 bills, it wouldn’t be sat in this register as single as me on Valentine's Day stuffing three boxes of chocolate in my mouth while watching true crime and reminding myself why it’s better that I’m painfully alone because I can never truly trust another living soul.”
“I don’t-” The woman was about to argue back, but Y/N wasn’t done.
“If you’re so insistent that you gave me two, then where do you think the missing $20 bill has gone? Has a portal opened to another dimension where the magical pixies have taken it to turn into a blanket for the needy? Have the $10 bills murdered it and disposed of the body in a gang-related crime? Did the other $20 bill develop a sudden fetish for cannibalism and eat it? Or do you think that maybe, maybe, you lied in an attempt to get free food and steal money from this poor little diner?” Y/N held the woman’s gaze for what felt like an eternity for Kyle but was really only 10 seconds at most. The woman, without saying another word, turned around and left the diner. “Have a wonderful evening, ma’am!” Y/N called out after her, a small little smug smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
“Attagirl!” Doris patted her on the back. “Taught you well!” Y/N laughed, turning her attention over to Kyle and giving him a dazzling grin. He couldn’t help but smile back at her with the same enthusiasm.
The next hour passed by uneventfully. Y/N took orders, cleaned tables, and chatted with the few regulars, but the diner was next to empty. Kyle managed to get a little bit of studying done, but each time he looked down to focus, he caught the smell of Y/N’s perfume as she walked past and got distracted again.
“Y/N, hun, the diner is as dead as my grandpappy,” Doris patted Y/N on the shoulder as she cleaned the same table for the fourth time in a row. “Why don’t you two head off early?”
“You sure?” Y/N looked around for anything that needed to be done. “What if there is a sudden rush?”
“At 9pm on a Thursday?” Doris let out a short little laugh. “Honey, if that happens, I’ll call you. But we’ve never had a late Thursday rush in the twenty years we’ve been running this shithole.” Y/N took this into consideration before making up her mind with a nod.
“Should I get us an Uber?” She slid into the booth seat opposite Kyle, taking his injured hand to examine it and make sure the bandage was still in place.
“It actually doesn’t hurt that much anymore. I should be okay to drive,” He smiled, tapping the wound and holding back the winces of pain that threatened to escape and betray his composure. “It’s not far to yours or mine, and I’d rather not leave my car here overnight.”
“Security camera is broken,” Jay added from the other side of the window to the kitchen. “Ain’t safe leaving it here.”
“Are you sure you’re okay to drive?” She was absentmindedly tracing her fingers around the bandage, making Kyle shiver a little. He hoped Y/N hadn’t noticed, but the knowing look that Doris gave him from behind the counter said that the older woman definitely had.
“I’m sure, come on,” He grabbed his bag as well as hers since he had been keeping guard over it at the booth, swinging both over his shoulder. Y/N immediately took them from him before he could take a single step, grumbling something about him being injured. “Thank you for the food and coffee!” He called out to the two owners of the diner. Jay grunted, and Doris responded by saying he was welcome whenever he wanted.
“She loves you,” Y/N smiled once they were outside. “And he may not show it, but Jay likes you too. He plated you up way more fries than he usually does for people. That’s the equivalent of a fatherly hug in Jay's terms.” She opened his door for him and chucked their bags on the back seat before getting into her usual spot in the passenger seat.
“You dealt with that horrible woman really well,” Kyle complimented while starting up the car, being careful with his hand on the wheel. “I’ll have to start watching you more. I think I could pick up some tips for being a more assertive lawyer.”
“Watching me more suggests you already watch me a little?” Y/N teased. Kyle’s face heated up. He was about to stutter out some excuse, but she saved him the embarrassment by changing the subject. “Are you sure you’re okay to drive?”
“I’m sure,” He insisted again. “My hand barely hurts anymore.”
Unfortunately, he couldn’t say the same when he finally pulled up to Y/N’s apartment. He had accidentally gripped the wheel a little too tight when Y/N reached over to fix the collar of his shirt while at a red light. Fortunately, they were only a block away from the apartment at that point.
“Come on; you’re staying over. You can’t drive like that,” His poker face was poor and had given away his pain in an instant. She didn’t give him any other options this time. She just pulled him into the apartment and straight to her room. They hadn’t stayed overnight together since that first night. Kyle was somehow more nervous now that he knew her better. “Happy to wear these again?” She held up the clothes he wore to sleep the last time he was round.
“Of course,” He nodded, taking them from her. “I’ll get changed in the bathroom again.” He turned to the door, but she caught his arm.
“Clyde is in there; you won’t want to go in for another hour at least,” She sighed, having heard the music he played out loud every time he was in the bathroom when they entered the apartment. “Just get changed in here. We can face the walls if you’re uncomfortable?” He didn’t trust his voice to not crack as he spoke, so Kyle just nodded, turning to face the wall and getting dressed.
“Ready,” He announced, once changed. She confirmed she was too, but when Kyle turned around, his eyes widened as he realised she wasn’t wearing pants, just a long t-shirt and underwear. “Are you going to be comfortable in that?” Y/N looked down, confused. It took her a second to realise what he was referring to.
“Ah shit, sorry, I didn’t even think about that. It’s hot in here right now, and this is how I would usually sleep,” She looked around her room. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I have some shorts somewhere-”
“No! It’s fine!” He hadn’t meant to sound eager, but he was worried it had come out that way. “Uh- I mean, if you’re more comfortable like that, then I’m okay with it.”
Tumblr media
“I didn’t think anyone could be worse than Stan and Wendy, and I share a wall with them,” Kyle mumbled, turning his head to look at Y/N as she settled against the pillow next to him. “I can’t believe they’re that loud from across the apartment.”
“This is my life,” She sighed, suppressing a laugh at the ridiculousness. “It’s honestly impressive; they go for an hour straight almost every night.”
“Next time, you’re sleeping around mine,” He exhaled softly, closing his eyes.
“Already planning another sleepover with me?” His eyes widened at her words, despite her teasing tone. “Good, you smell nice. It’s very comforting to be next to you.” Kyle thought his heart would stop beating when he heard that, but when Y/N rolled over towards him and wrapped her arm around him while she rested her head on his chest, he was sure it had stopped, and he was dead. “Is this okay?”
“Yes,” He answered without thinking, his uninjured hand resting on her waist before he could register what he had just agreed to. There was no way she couldn’t hear how heavy his breathing had suddenly become as he tried to calm himself down.
Then again, Clyde and Bebe’s moans had somehow increased in volume. It was hard to hear his own thoughts over that.
“Goodnight, Kyle,” Y/N managed to get out through giggles. Her laughter soothed him more than anticipated.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”

“Are you sure you’re okay with being here?” Y/N asked for what was probably the 17th time in the 10 minutes they had been sitting outside of her mother’s house in Kyle’s car, waiting for the strength to go in. Sheila had sent them off with snacks for the trip and left Y/N with the contact details for everyone in the Broflovski family and added her to a new family group chat. She was officially inducted as one of them. It was bittersweet to have to leave them to see her real mother.
“I’m okay… are you?” Kyle sighed, looking over as Y/N sat there, staring ahead with a distant look. “Do you want me to do the talking?” He offered.
“No, I need to do this myself…” She took a deep breath, closed her eyes and straightened her back. “Come on, before I chicken out again.”
As they walked to the front door, Y/N grabbed Kyle’s hand, holding it tight. He squeezed hers back quickly to try and encourage her further as she hesitantly rang the doorbell. They waited for what felt like forever, but finally, the door swung open to reveal a woman with her hair messily tied back and a scowl that, judging by the lines on her face, was a permanently etched feature.
“Mother,” It was only one word, but Kyle had never heard Y/N’s voice in such a dull and emotionless tone. Her words were usually full of warmth, but this was cold and sent a chill down his spine. It was as though she had flipped a switch inside her that turned off her personality.
“Took you long enough,” The woman had a slightly southern drawl as she spoke. Kyle couldn’t quite place down where it originated from. She didn’t say anything else as she stepped aside and lazily waved her arm to usher them in.
“I’m collecting Henry’s shit for him,” Y/N announced as she walked through the crowded hall full of cardboard moving boxes. “I assume it’s all still in our room?”
“Ain’t touched a thing,” Y/N’s mother waved her arm. “I’ll be in the kitchen. Don’t talk to me.” She walked off, and Kyle’s eyes followed her, burning with rage. How could a parent talk to their child in such a way?
As he followed Y/N around a corner, his eyes caught a display case at the end of the hallway. It was full to the brim of trophies and ribbons. The walls were littered with pictures of a young girl dressed in glittery outfits and far too much makeup for someone so young. Despite all of that, he recognised her eyes. The little girl was Y/N.
“You won all of these?” His mouth was slightly agape as he tried to read some of the engravings on the trophies. “Bean Queen 2013?”
“Bean Queen 2011 and 2012, too,” She corrected, pointing at the adjacent trophies. “Henry still calls me that. Used to have to sit on a float in a parade surrounded by green beans while singing a song about a bountiful harvest. It was humiliating.”
“Are we packing up all of these?” He asked, gesturing at the awards and pictures.
“God no,” Y/N scoffed, shaking her head. “They may have my name on them, but they’re not mine. They’re all her’s.” He understood the implications immediately. She didn’t want them. She never wanted them. She only won them for her mom. “Let’s see what state this shithole is in.”
Y/N pushed open a door at the end of the hall. A room with a divider in the form of a curtain splitting it in two came into view. One half was covered in pink; the other was a dark grey. It was quite a stark contrast.
“It’s a four-bedroom house, but she turned one bedroom into a dance studio, one into a home gym, and kept one for herself, so Henry and I had to share a room,” She explained as Kyle looked around. “We’ll get Henry’s stuff over and done with first. That way, I can only pack what I really need of mine, depending on what fits.”
“We’re not leaving behind things if they don’t fit in the car,” Kyle immediately refused. “We’ll make two trips if we need to.”
“I have to consider what will fit in my apartment, though. You’ve seen the space I have,” She sighed, grabbing a box from Henry’s side of the room. His stuff was mostly packed up from when he had last been at home. She just needed to make sure the bits that Henry had highlighted as important were definitely there. “I mean, you’ve seen it, I can barely fit what I already have in my room as it is, and I have no idea when he’ll stop by and collect his stuff. I’ll probably have it for years, knowing him. Asshole never visits me. Why am I even helping him?” Despite her complaints, she didn’t stop.
“What about Wendy’s old room?” Kyle suggested. “It’s mostly empty, right?”
“Bebe has been talking about getting another roommate, one of her friends from class,” She held up some hockey boots, smiling briefly at them and putting them back in the box. “Really, we could do with the extra money for rent. Even with Clyde, we’re struggling. It would be nice to actually fix the stove and cook a proper meal again.” Kyle sat down next to her, opening another box to check the list of items Y/N had placed on the floor for reference.
“My room at home is unused,” He pointed out. “You saw it. My parents hadn’t touched it since I left. We can store things there.”
“I can’t just ask you-” She tried to protest, but he cut her off.
“We’ll figure this out,” He told her firmly. “I promise.”
Tumblr media
“That’s everything of Henry’s,” Y/N groaned, stretching as the final box of Henry’s was jammed into Kyle’s trunk. The back seats were reserved for Y/N’s things, which were next on the list. However, it was 9pm, and they were exhausted and hungry. “I doubt she’s prepared food for us, and I don’t really want to talk to her… Wanna go to my old favourite takeout spot?”
“Sounds good!” Kyle nodded with a smile, happy that he would be able to get another little glimpse into Y/N’s life before he met her. “Should I start the car?”
“It’s only a 5-minute walk,” She shrugged. “I never hung out anywhere that I couldn’t walk to within 15 minutes because everyone who could drive was always too drunk to.”
“Lead the way,” He was slightly shocked when she looped her arm with his and started walking together. “What takeout is it?”
“You’ll have to bare with me because it sounds strange,” She laughed a little as she spoke. “It’s soup in a cup. They give you this giant cup bowl thing if you’re eating in, and it's just a big papery-plastic cup for takeout, but it is so good. They have bread that they bake themselves too, and it is just… pure perfection. Real comfort food.”
They walked and discussed the various options for five minutes until Y/N finally stopped in front of a small restaurant called ‘Coup de Soup’ where the U’s looked like little cups with steam coming out of them. Looking through the window, Kyle could see that there were a couple of small tables. Two of them were taken, but there was a free one where they could sit.
“No fucking way!” Y/N gasped, dragging Kyle through the door before he could process what was happening. “Who left you in charge of this place?” She spoke to the person working behind the counter, whose eyes widened in realisation.
“Well, look at what the cat dragged in!” They hopped over the counter. Y/N let go of Kyle’s arm as she was wrapped in a hug. “God, I missed you! What brings you back to town?... And who is your friend?”
“Mom bullshit,” Y/N didn’t elaborate more, but based on the expression on the other person’s face, they understood perfectly well. “Leaf, this is my friend Kyle! Kyle, this is Leaf, my best friend from high school.”
“Demoted to a best friend?” Leaf held a hand to their chest in mock hurt. “That’s rough.”
“We were technically only friends,” Y/N pointed out, sitting down at the spare table and motioning for Kyle to sit opposite as he watched the interaction. “Beneficial friends, but still just friends.” He tried desperately to suppress the jealousy that bubbled up in his chest. Y/N wasn’t his to be jealous over. Whoever she had or still did interact with on an intimate level was none of his business.
“So Kyle, are you a ‘beneficial friend’, as Y/N put it?” Leaf leaned on the table with a grin, looking at him. Their green hair barely poked out of the beanie they were wearing, which Kyle considered an odd choice with the rest of their uniform but didn’t care enough to point out.
“Just… regular friend,” Kyle mumbled, feeling more than a little awkward. He hoped his cheeks hadn’t turned pink, but he felt a little hotter than usual under the questioning.
“Kyle is the one I told you about,” Y/N added. Kyle couldn’t read the facial expressions that were passed between the two, but it was as though they were having an entire wordless conversation. He couldn’t help but feel out of the loop.
“Of course!” Leaf nodded, realisation dawning on their face. “Well, Kyle, it is great to meet you. Can I get you two anything?”
“Usual for me, please,” Y/N requested, looking over at Kyle. “How about you?”
“Oh, I’ll uh… Same for me, please?” He felt nervous and out of place. He wasn’t sure what Y/N’s usual was but hoped it would be something he could eat.
“On it!” Leaf winked at Y/N, who smiled back as they disappeared behind the counter to prepare the food.
“Are you okay?” Y/N suddenly turned her attention to Kyle, immediately picking up on his discomfort but not understanding why. “Do you need to step outside for some air? It’s a bit hot in here.”
“No, I’m… I’m fine,” Kyle put on his best convincing smile, hoping it would do the trick. She didn’t believe him but didn’t want to prompt any further discomfort by pushing him to tell her what was wrong. “What did you say about me to your friend?” It took a moment for it to register that he was referencing earlier when Y/N said that Kyle was the one she had told Leaf about.
“I told them the truth,” She shrugged, looking over at them while they bopped to the quiet music playing over the radio as they cut the bread into slices. “That you had taken their place as my favourite person.”
“What?” Kyle’s eyes widened a little as the words hit him. “I’m your favourite person?”
“Of course!” She smiled as though it were completely obvious. Before Kyle had the chance to respond, Leaf returned with two giant mugs of soup and a plate of the fluffiest bread Kyle had ever seen. “Thank you, Leaf!”
“No worries, babe,” Leaf blew her a kiss, which she jokingly caught and mimed, putting in her bra. Y/N turned to the table and started devouring the soup and bread as though it were her last meal. Kyle was about to do the same, but he was startled by Leaf whispering to him. “Treat her well.”
Tumblr media
“You’ve done that before, haven’t you?” Kyle watched as Y/N shimmied her own bedroom window open. Her mom had locked them out while there were gone, which she had predicted would happen as they were walking home.
“Baby, I used the door more today than in my entire time living here,” The pet name caused Kyle to completely freeze up. He couldn’t move or breathe. It went straight to his heart. “Got it!” She cheered as the window popped open. “After you, good sir.” She grinned, waving her arm to usher him in through the window.
“Why, thank you!” Kyle played along once he had gotten a grip on his racing heartbeat. He awkwardly climbed in through the window, landing on Y/N’s childhood bed. She followed suit, landing on top of him. “Sorry, I didn’t move in time.”
“It’s fine! You broke my fall more than the bed usually does!” She laughed, not making any attempt of moving. “In fact, you’re much more comfy than my bed. I think I’ll stay like this.” There was no way for Kyle to hide how flustered he was by the position. She was lying on top of him, head nuzzled against his chest, legs and arms wrapped around him. When she didn’t move except to kick her shoes off, he realised she wasn’t joking.
“You’re actually staying like this?” He asked, slightly nervously. It wasn’t uncomfortable, at least not in the physical sense. He was paranoid he would do something wrong in his sleep, somehow throw her off of him. Or worse, wake up with morning wood.
“Are you okay with that?” She yawned, already closing her eyes. Despite the flood of bad things that could happen if they stayed like that, Kyle’s mouth moved without hesitation.
“Yes.”
