Aidan is riddled with anxiety, and his best friend introduces back scratches.

“It’s just a normal show; I have no idea why I’m freaking out," Aidan mumbled to himself as he sat on the couch, fidgeting with his hands. Despite his efforts to calm down, his racing thoughts and pounding heart only intensified.

Y/N was technically Anna's best friend and was invited to tag along on the Supernova Tour. She was around from day one of tour planning, and Aidan couldn't help but feel himself gravitate towards her. As the tour progressed, Aidan found himself seeking Y/N's company more and more. Her calming presence and understanding nature seemed to alleviate his anxiety, making him feel at ease. Aidan couldn't deny the growing connection between them, wondering if it was just friendship or something more. It got to the point where he found himself writing songs about her; it was as if she had a sixth sense about his most internal feelings, which he'd learned to suppress.

"You'll be great; don't waste a good worry on something you can't predict," she chuckled. Her laughter was infectious; it helped to lighten his worries slightly, though the anxiety that riddled his brain felt impossible to get over.

He watched as she stood from her chair and crossed the room to the couch where he was sitting. As she sat down beside him, he couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort wash over him. Her presence alone had a calming effect on his restless mind. Aidan couldn't ignore the flutter in his chest as she put her arm around him and rested her head on his shoulder.

"Is it because there's a bigger crowd tonight?" Y/N asked.

"I don't even know; I'm just stressed."

"That's ok too, but I know you'll relax once you're out there having fun."

In his head, Aidan knew she was right, but her words didn't help to calm the nauseating thump of his heart: "You're right; I just wish I could calm down before I go out there."

"You have time to wind down," Anna interrupted. "I only go on in 20. You've got over an hour."

Aidan deeply appreciated the reassurance and could feel himself relax into Y/N's touch.

"How about some back scratches until you go on?" Y/N offered.

"Oh my god, that's a priceless offer right there. Y/N gives the best tickles." Anna smiled. "What?" Anna asked, noticing Aidan's confused expression.

"What the fuck are back scratches?" he asked.

Aidan's confusion was evident as he questioned the concept of "back scratches." Y/N and Anna exchanged amused expressions with quiet giggles. "Back scratches are when someone gently rubs and tickles your back with their fingers," Y/N explained, trying to suppress her laughter. "You've never had that?" She asked.

"Nope. I've never experienced back scratches before," Aidan replied, still puzzled. "Well, you're missing out! Y/N is a pro-back scratcher. Take her up on that offer or I will," Anna chimed in, joining Y/N's explanation.

Aidan looked intrigued; his curiosity was piqued by Anna's words. "Alright, I'll give it a try then," he said with a smile, eager to see what the fuss was all about. Y/N grinned mischievously, ready to show Aidan the wonders of a good back scratch.

"'Kay, I'm gonna put my hand under your shirt; is that okay?" Aidan hesitated for a moment, unsure about Y/N's request. However, his trust in Anna and his curiosity got the better of him. "Sure, go ahead," he replied, trying to hide his slight nervousness. Y/N nodded reassuringly before gently placing her hand on the bottom of Aidan's back over his sweater. She began light, gently rubbing his back over this soft sweater to allow him to get a feel for her hands on him. She also lifted her head from his shoulder to let him adjust his position against her. As Y/N continued to massage his back, Aidan felt a sense of relaxation wash over him. The warmth of her touch and the gentle rhythm of her movements eased his nerves, making him more comfortable in her presence.

"I'm gonna put my hand under your shit now, okay?" She whispered.

"Mhm," he hummed, and he turned to rest his head against hers.

Y/N's soft hands expertly ran along the base of his back, her fingertips just barely ghosting over his skin. She exchanged a knowing smile with Anna as she quietly slipped out of the room. Aidan closed his eyes, surrendering himself to the blissful sensation. The disappearance of Anna's presence didn't bother him; he trusted Y/N completely to continue her soothing touch. He sighed softly and felt his body further relax into her, feeling muscles he didn't realize he was tensing soften into her embrace.

As her hand worked higher up the expanse of his back, Aidan's body drooped against hers, and she couldn't help but chuckle when his back arched when she touched particularly ticklish spots. It was soothing to Y/N as well, and the repetition of the gentle circles her fingers drew on his back brought a sense of comfort to her too.

As she continued to massage his back, Aidan's mind began to drift into a state of tranquility. He let his stress and worries melt away, replacing them with a profound sense of peace. With each stroke of her hand, he could feel the tension in his body dissipate, leaving him feeling lighter and more at ease. Y/N slowly let her back rest against the back of the couch, silently encouraging Aidan to further ease up against her. He eventually slouched and shifted to slightly lie on his side with his head on her chest.

Aidan felt those buried feelings resurface and cause repeated flutters in his stomach, especially with her skin on his. The warmth radiating from Y/N's body enveloped him, creating a comforting cocoon that made him forget about the outside world. As he closed his eyes, Aidan allowed himself to fully surrender to the moment, cherishing the intimacy they shared and the deep connection they had formed in such a short amount of time. In that moment, Aidan realized how much he craved this level of vulnerability and closeness with someone. It was as if all the boundaries that kept him from connecting began to fall apart, allowing him to truly open up and let Y/N in. He couldn't help but wonder where this newfound connection would lead them, hoping that it was just the beginning of something beautiful.

He was just barely able to hold his eyes open when Anna reentered, sweaty and excited from the show. He hadn't realized that it had been almost an hour since she left the room. He had been so lost in comfort and his thoughts about Y/N that he hadn't realized it was time for him to get ready for the show. As she plopped down next to him, he couldn't help but notice the glow on her face and the sparkle in her eyes. It was clear that the show had left a lasting impact on her, and he couldn't wait to hear all about it. He was grateful for his tourmate and her best friend. They made the anxieties that riddled his brain seem just like bumps in the road instead of detours. As he stood to go get ready, it was only then that he noticed his hand tightly holding onto Y/N's free one. He sent her a shy yet knowing smile before he disappeared behind the door.

When Y/N straightened on the couch, she turned to Anna and was met with a cheeky smirk. "He's smitten," she laughed.

"Oh hush!" She giggled and swatted Anna's arm.

"This tour is gonna be life-changing for the both of us. I better be your maid of honor." Anna warned with a grin.

today’s song of the day is tripping over air by aidan bissett!

aidan bissett was the opener for claire rosinkranz when i saw her on tour last spring, and he did an amazing job! he is such a charismatic and talented performer, and hearing his songs live is what actually convinced me to start listening to his stuff.

tripping over air is a single he put out last year that i’ve been obsessed with the past few days. it’s so catchy and has such a good hook, so i’ve been listening to it a ton in the car on my way to work (i have a 40 minute commute lol). it’s just a super fun song that i really love right now.

give it a listen and check out aidan’s other music while you’re at it, he is so underrated!

Aidan Bissett & Anna Shoemaker – TLA – Philadelphia, PA – October 24, 2023

Aidan Bissett provided an exciting night on his tour honoring his latest EP release, “Supernova.” After seeing Aidan Bissett perform at this same venue in the spring while on tour opening for Valley, I couldn’t wait to see him headline the stage. Joined by Anna Shoemaker on this tour, fans were in for a treat and a night of incredible music.

Up first was Anna Shoemaker. This was an extra special performance for her as it was a hometown show, and Philly was definitely eager to welcome her home! Her set consisted of “If You’re Going (I’ll Go),” “On Me,” “It’s Depression,” “Holly” and my personal favorite, “666.” When on stage, Anna Shoemaker radiates passion and happiness, and she has no issue reeling the crowd in. Her beautiful vocals soared through TLA as she interacted with the crowd, and the fans danced along with joy.

At around 9pm, the lights went low, and cheers filled the venue as Aidan Bissett took the stage. His set started off strong as he opened with “All That I’m Craving,” “Out Of My League,” “Ultraviolet,” and “I Can’t Be Your Friend.” Bissett has incredible charisma while performing and makes sure to take advantage of every inch of the stage. His ability to engage and interact with the crowd is so much fun to watch, and it’s clear he has chemistry with his bandmates as well.

His set continued on with “Twenty Something,” “Wish It Was Me,” “Dumped,” and “Communication.” During his performance of “Song For Her,” Bissett got up close and personal with the crowd as he stood by the barricade swallowed in harsh blue light, singing to the crowd directly. He asked for participation from the crowd, as the song was performed beautifully. As the end of the set neared, Bissett performed “More Than Friends,” “Grocery Store Girl,” “Sick,” “Bloom,” and “Tripping Over Air.”

As a whole, this performance was so much fun to watch. After seeing Aidan Bissett’s growth throughout his career, this performance and his EP “Supernova” is a great testament to his hard work. I can’t wait to see what he does next!
