Theory for AIB S3

After a rather short while of going back and rewatching S1 after finishing S2, I began extensively analyzing everything in the show regarding characters and what we now know from S2.

Before I go any further, I would first like to point out there will be spoilers for Alice in Borderland S1 and S2 following this. I would also like to point out that Chishiya is my favorite character and I’m pretty sure it will show in the following paragraphs.

Theory

When I first started contemplating this theory, I thought it was too on the nose for what we’d already seen from the show. However, the more I thought about it and analyzed my supporting evidence, the more it seemed to be perfect with how S2 ended.

So, we know that two of the executives from The Beach were Game Masters of Face games in the new season, Keiichi Kuzuryū (King of Diamonds) and Mira Kanō (Queen of Hearts). We also know that once all the games have been defeated, all surviving players are given a choice: To become a permanent resident of the Borderland or to deny the offer.

I believe that Last Boss will be the Game Master of the Joker card.

Supporting Evidence

S1E7: The Beach has become a killing ground and game tournament for the 10 of Hearts game. Kuina buys Anne time by engaging in combat with Last Boss. During this fight, we get to see glimpses of both Kuina and Last Boss’s pasts as well as learn that Last Boss has never felt more alive than in The Borderland playing the games. The last clip we see of the fight, is a final blow from Kuina and her giving a nod to what her father had taught her.

S1E8: The game continues, Arisu exposes Aguni for the death of Hatter, and all hell breaks loose once again. It isn’t until the dealer of the game reveals herself to distract Aguni and give Arisu the advantage to finish the game, that we find out that Niragi survived Chishiya’s jerry-rigged flamethrower (it was honestly very impressive and very enjoyable to watch). Hellbent, Niragi tries to continue to mow through the final survivors of The Beach, but is finally apprehended by Aguni, and the two disappear into the smoke from the fire with only two gunshots signaling the end of that battle. When the final survivors of The Beach finally complete the game, we get a final glimps of Last Boss, still alive in the burning building that is The Beach.

S2E2: To my surprise, and I’m sure everyone else’s, the disgusting scum of a human, Niragi shows up at the King of Clubs game, already registered and now forced to team up with Arisu and his group.

S2E4-E5: Aguni also miraculously survived the fire at The Beach.

S2E8: The final clip we get of this season was the entire 52 cards of the deck on a table. A wind picks up and blows off all the cards leaving one, The Joker.

Also with going back and rewatching S1 and analyzing Last Boss and his mannerisms, he’s a very animated sociopath. Especially in the fight scene against Kuina, the maniacal laughter, toying with her like a cat with a mouse. He even said so himself, he never felt more alive than in the game.

I just had a realization.

So everyone knows about the red triangle at this point. Likely an old friendship that turned sour between Oodle and whoever that symbol represents (especially considering Oodle has the same symbol on Tivo just in green.)

Now anyways I've seen alot of people state that they think Bone is a system but... this scene implies otherwise.

No, I think this is more a case of possession. Bones currently sharing a body with another entity. Also, listen to the music that plays when they first show up. Doesn't that sound like...

The AIB intro? Yeah the song most associated with Oodle and also the track abruptly cuts off at around the same time Oodle loses the spotlight in the intro.

Also something else of note Bone seems to be the contestant that Oodle is the most freindly with.

Which if this is an old freind looking for payback would make Bone the perfect host to get close to Oodle. Also look at the timeline of events surrounding "Red" which is what I'll be calling Bones "alterego."

Bone makes contact at the end of episode two.

He first takes control during episode (only to keep Oodle from finding out about him) and we also learn that Bone can't remember what Red does while in control, which is why he didn't go after Oodle.

In episode 4 Oodle is savatodged and has his paint buckets attack him, forcing him to improvise the challenge and injuring him.

And the red triangle symbol is uncovered in episode 5

So yeah, its looking like Bone and Oodle might wind up being the center of conflict (along with Red) at least after the other conflicts with Pitchfork, Nabula, and the rest wrap up.

Either way things don't look to great for Bone or Oodle.

AYE EYE BEE THEORY!! someone (possibly the one laughing in the new intro?) sent oodle to the blank slate. in the first intro, he seems notably frightened when he gets pulled into the portal, indicating he didn't make it himself.

perhaps the portal in the intro, the laugh in the v2 intro, and the red triangles that keep poppin up are connected to each other.. and all lead back to the same being??

alice in borderland theory; still in borderland?

introduction

hey tumblr, im back w another analyzation of alice in borderland; once again, still the netflix series. i do not own the manga. yet. todays analyzation is about a pretty popular topic right now; are the 'former' players still in borderland? lets take a look.

still in borderland - evidence supporting claim

during season two, arisu and the others played face card games. along the way, they find out ‘citizens’, or, long term participants of borderland who now run games, are a part of the mystery of borderland. they mostly refuse to say anything, mostly speaking along the lines of “clear all the games, and you will find out.” it lacks information, but its still straight forward. this happens continuously leading up to the final face card game- or, at least we think it's the final game. out of face card games? yes. out of the eternity of games? no. lets talk about it.

‘final’ game during the final face card, or, queen of hearts/croquet, mira plays mind games on arisu and usagi. she is fully capable of manipulating them and creating false imagery, as she fools them multiple times as they drink tea. once she is beaten, the fireworks from episode one flash in the sky, and the remaining players are sent home. but that’s where we are wrong. they are specifically asked whether they would like to leave or not. borderland still exists, despite all the games having been completed. circulating back to mira, i already mentioned she can play very elaborate and believable mind tricks. whats stopping us from thinking this isnt another one of her tricks? not much.

everyone is connected when players confirm they would like to leave borderland, it cuts to an altered version of episode one. karube, chota, and arisu walking through shibuya, camera switching between different characters that were introduced in borderland. its ‘revealed’ that they were actually all in the same place at the same time, and a meteor had actually crashed right there at that exact moment. at least, that’s what they want us to think. “but hiemal, what do you mean??” if you go back to episode one with the original version of the shibuya street clip, you cannot find anyone from borderlands. this is excluding usagi being faintly seen in the background before the crosswalk clip. even with usagi being visible, this lacks the evidence it needs to support the idea that everyone was there at the same time.

and finally, outside the hospital, we can see a bunch of playing cards sprawled out on a table. slowly, they all blow away. except for one. the joker card. now in my personal opinion, i believe the joker might symbolize a trick as joker cards were originally symbolized as a kings fool/trickster. if the joker card symbolizes a trick, it all lines up with the idea that they didn't actually escape borderland; while they might've beat the queen of hearts, the joker is still apparent/relevant. if my theory is correct, what will this joker game be? i cant say for certain.

bonus: what was the purpose of asking whether or not players would like to stay or not? to start this off, in season one, when it cuts to recordings of momoka and her friend, we find out that players can definitely help with the games. sound familiar? citizens. arisu says he believes the citizens had been there so long, they started to create the games themselves. he might be onto something. what if, this choice between staying or leaving is actually to replace the face cards’ former queens/kings? all of the face cards leading citizens have left. assuming that borderland has existed for longer than we think, taking into consideration that a lot of people came at entirely different times supports this. new leaders take the place of the old, and those who choose to go home move on to play the joker.

there’s an odd sense of tension in the air as you look at chishiya. his dark eyes are alluring - almost daring you to finally take the dive and fall deep into them. you can barely feel the warmth of his breath from how close you are. you scan the birthmarks and freckles on his face. you picture them creating a constellation across his skin that matches your own, as if the fates are pulling you together.

“chishiya,” you whisper. your voice is low. your heartbeat pounds in your ears. the world around you slowly begins to fade. the only thing that matters is the man standing in front of you, looking into your eyes as if he’ll be able to read your mind if he searches deep enough.

“y/n,” he breathes. you hesitantly reach a hand up to push his bangs behind his ear, exposing more of his face. your hand hovers before his face before you rest it against the skin. chishiya doesn’t move away. instead, he leans into your touch. he tilts his head a little closer to you. “can i kiss you?”

your breath hitches in your throat. you haven’t been sure of anything since you entered the borderland until now. now, you’re sure. you want to kiss him.

you lean in to press your lips against chishiya’s in a sweet kiss. his lips quirk upwards as he reaches out to hold your hips, coaxing your body even closer. the world could have ended - the beach fallen, vegetation taken over the land, lasers killed everyone - but none of it would matter. because you were kissing chishiya.

"i'm here now"

it’s late. too late. the sun has set by now. the stars have begun to twinkle in the sky above chishiya. he sighs, leaning back against the wall. you should be back by now. where are you?

an unfamiliar feeling of anxiety settles into chishiya’s stomach. he’s not used to caring about people. not like this. his mind is running like it always is, though it’s never felt so much like a burden before. chishiya had always prided himself on his ability to analyze situations. he could tell how someone was feeling, pick holes into any theories or ideas presented, find the most rational solution and use it to his advantage.

but right now, chishiya doesn’t want to be rational. all of the signs point to you being dead. why else would you be so late coming back? you’ve been missing for hours. it’s far past the evening now. even if you do come back now you’ll have to find the beach in the darkness.

he’s broken out of his thoughts by something moving. he only notices it in the corner of his eye, but it’s something - someone. he steps closer, squinting into the darkness. it’s you.

you’re limping along the asphalt of the road towards the beach’s hotel. chishiya simply stares at you for a few seconds. before he realizes what he’s doing, his body begins moving on its own. he’s running towards you, wrapping his arms around your waist, supporting your body weight against his own as you lean against him. dried blood stains your clothes and is splattered on your face.

“chishiya,” you sigh, clutching onto him. his mind is racing. instead of asking all of the questions that linger on the tip of his tongue, he pulls you closer. chishiya presses his lips against yours in a desperate kiss - as if you’ll disappear if he stops touching you.

his hands linger on your cheeks when he pulls away, wiping away the tears and blood from your face. “it’s okay,” he whispers. “you’re gonna be okay. i’m here now.”

"come back to bed"

you groan as chishiya gently coaxes your body to the side, maneuvering your body so you’re laying on the bed instead of his chest. you reach out to grab him, pushing him back down onto the bed. chishiya sighs in defeat as you nuzzle your face against him, effectively holding him down with your own body weight. “did i wake you?” he whispers.

“you’re so warm,” your voice is muffled against his skin. “i always notice when you leave.”

chishiya hums, raising a hand to rub against your back. he gently scratches his nails against your bare skin. it feels so intimate to lay like this. your chest pressed against his own, blankets only pulled halfway over your bodies, sunlight streaming through the windows.

“we have things to do today.”

“we always have things to do,” you whine, shifting to sleepily blink up at him. chishiya lets a small smile spread across his face. “we won a game last night. let’s just stay like this for a while.”

you know you’ve won the debate when chishiya’s smile grows. he throws his head back to lean against the pillows. you smile yourself, moving upwards to press a kiss against his jawline before laying back down on his body again, this time with your head against his shoulder. “i hate it when you do this.”

“do what? cuddle with you? kiss you? force you to get a good night’s sleep?”

chishiya huffs, wrapping his arms around your waist. “you’re too cute to argue with.”

you can’t help being flustered, shoving your face back into the crook of his neck. “you love it.”

“i love you.”

you press a kiss against his neck, smiling when goosebumps raise along his skin. “i love you too.”

"are you sure about this?"

“chishiya?” said man doesn’t even spare a glance at you as he continues working on yet another invention. his shoulders are hunched from how close he’s leaning in to see exactly what he’s doing. you can almost feel how stressed he is, even from across the room.

you lock the door behind you before stepping closer. you slowly reach out to press a hand against his shoulder, leaning down to see exactly what he’s doing. he’s holding an empty soda can, fiddling with a mess of wires in his hands. a bottle sits on the desk - something he stole from the mechanics. kerosene.

“you’re making another bomb?” this time he finally acknowledges you, albeit only with a small hum. unfazed by his dismissive behavior you reach over, slowly forcing him to set the wires down. chishiya looks up at you now, silently questioning what you’re doing. instead of answering you push his chair back.

chishiya’s hands ghost against your hips as you throw your leg over his to straddle his hips. big brown eyes blink up at you as you lean in, finally pressing your lips to his. it starts off innocent enough. sitting in chishiya’s lap isn’t an uncommon experience in your relationship. though things quickly become more heated when he leans up to press his lips against yours into a deeper kiss this time.

you’re nearly gasping for air when you finally pull away. his face has a light flush, disheveled blonde hair messily pulled into a ponytail. “are you sure about this?” you whisper.

chishiya leans up, pulling you into yet another kiss. “i’ve never been more sure about anything else.”

"i could stay like this forever"

chishiya sighs as he enters your shared room. what was supposed a free day was quickly turned into an incredibly long bore when hatter called him and the other executives into meetings for everything he could think of. though pointless, not showing up would risk damaging his position of authority, small as it may be, so he reluctantly dragged himself to the room and sat around at a table for hours.

you’re sitting on the bed, already waiting for him. he raises an eyebrow at you, kicking his sandals off and stripping from his jacket. the beach’s air conditioning does little to cool him down after spending so long sitting around in a room. “i thought you were supposed to hang out with kuina tonight.”

“i was,” you sigh. “but that was when i thought i would be spending the day with you. besides, she’s hanging out with arisu and usagi tonight. something about wanting to get to know them better.”

chishiya hums, sitting down on the bed. you pat the spot next to you, gesturing for him to lay down. despite his questions he obeys, moving so he’s face down on the bed. you shift so you’re hovering over him, pressing your hands against his back. he groans, letting you massage the tension out of his muscles and shoulders.

after a while, chishiya sighs. you take the cue to move off of him, rolling to lay next to him. he shifts onto his side to look at you, reaching over to pull you into a kiss. it’s gentle. sweet. your lips quirk upwards into a smile when he pulls away. you take the opportunity to hold him down, pressing little kisses all over his face. chishiya laughs at the ticklish feeling. it’s a beautiful sound - one you don’t hear far often enough. when you pull away both of you look at each other with small, loving smiles. an unspoken agreement passes between the both of you. despite it all, you wouldn’t give this up for the world.

AIB Boys Getting the silent treatment from their S/O

Arisu knows one thing, the moment you start to give him the silent treatment its because he fucked up BAD.

But how does he reacts? He goes into a crisis mode where he checks dates, gifts, events, family days to see if he forgot something.

He ends getting sad and down because you are his safe space and wants you to talk to him again.

So he ends making a big dinner (orders take out because he does not know how to prepare a proper meal), buys you flowers and waits for you to get back from work.

When you return he has the most dorky smile and makes you take a seat in the living room, puts your favorite movie and gets the food.

Once the movie ends he will hug you and ask you what he did wrong and apologies for it but will tell you to be more Open with him.

♡ Chishiya

This Man is PRIDEFULL and does not understand emotions. So when you give him the silent treatment Chishiya will ask you to stop being a kid and just talk to him. However the more you refuse the more he gets bored of this and will end not talking to you.

This goes for about 2 weeks. But its not like a tense week. More like a silent week. Both of you are tired of Daily life and your personalities sometimes hit eachother.

Eventually you will start talking to Chishiya again, telling him directly why you were angry at him.

"You could have done this from the start. But I know I may come as insinsitive and cold most of the times so I dont blame you"

Wont apologies but will compensate you with some cuddles.

♡ Tatta

This Man will cry at work and make conspirancy theories about the reason of why he is getting the silent treatment.

He will go and aks your Friends if they know something, he has a good relationship with them!!

Once he discovers the reason (and it does not matter if its important or not) he will go and buy you chocolates/snacks, a plush and will write a love note to you.

Why? because he truly feels bad.

(Even if its was because he ate the last chocolate, he FEELS BAD).

Give him cuddles pls he needs them.

Insecure boy

♡ Banda Sunato

Do you think this man cares ?

He is used to you not talking to him a lot.

He kindapped you, of course you give him the silent treatment lots of times. In fact Banda is used to you screaming at him instead of holding a normal conversation.

"Cant you see im the best for you?" Banda says as he cleans your fresh cuts and gives you medicine for your throath. "If you were a good pet then you would not need to suffer"

♡ Karube

The moment you give him the silent treatment Karube knows its because:

you are jealous of women/men flirting with him in his bar.

And Karube its used to it and does feel bad. He would give you space and then suprise you with dinner and cuddles. He would tell you how you are the only one he loves (and fucks,you two are like rabbits). Will end the night taking you to bed fucking you hard till you cry his name.

♡ Mori

This big softie its actually scared of you when you give him the silent treatment. He is LOST wondering what he did but knows not to ask you because that would make things WORSE.

Will end asking his friend "Hatter" for advice (bad idea) "did you not fuck her right?"

Mori ends sending flowers to your work promising you to be a better boyfriend.

my theories and interpretation of aib s2 ending

SPOILERS ‼️‼️

pls keep in mind these are MY theories and opinions, i also have yet to read the manga so i could be entirely wrong

as we know, the borderlands symbolizes the place between life and death to show how far people will go to survive. those who died in the borderlands died in real life, those who survived lived to see another day.

however, i feel that this isn’t the end of the time in the borderlands. if they had managed to get there once, whose to say it didn’t happen again? mira had lied to them about what would happen once the games were completed many times, what if this was just another stunt? another alternative universe similar to theirs?

the joker card to me symbolized two different ideas. It either means it’s not the end of their journey within the borderlands and the joker is behind the ENTIRETY of the borderlands, having the game master (mira) do all the work for them. OR it could mean this is the being that saved them and brought them back home. joker cards are tricky and deceiving.

i feel like they’re not done with the borderlands, but only just beginning.

Ok I have something to say.

I’m confused about the ending of aib not about the joker card (I am a little bit bcs people have been giving so many great ideas and theory’s), but it’s not that.

I’m confused about how they had a massive focus on the rapid growing plantation and wildlife taking over the city, there was an entire thing with Ann investigating it and that guy finding her with the camera and Arisu and Usagi seeing that on the tapes.

So what I’m confused about is

A) have I missed something or

B) is it a metaphor or meaning for something or

C) is it something that could be explained or is set up for a possible third season

D) is just something the writers forgot to or couldn’t write anything wrapping it up

Because it just felt so important and it felt like it was just dropped or forgotten at the end and I feel a little stupid because maybe I missed something????

But so many people have been focusing on the joker card because yes that is important to but I feel like people have been forgetting about this entire subplot so are we maybe getting a season three, or could the writers just not wrap this loose end up?

the borderlands

for dummies

I guess

now that we have reached the conclusion of the original manga series in the show, a lot of my friends seemed to be confused about the ending or what exactly the borderlands is. And while I haven’t finished the show (wether I am or not is debatable, granted i’m just dramatic and will get over my qualms with it fairly quickly) I have read the manga which gives you more clues as to how you should interpret it.

the mass majority of this post will be the last few chapters of the manga which stay relatively true to what the show has in it (other that some stuff that is not relevant to this post) so take that how you will.

this post will be divided into a few parts

what created the borderlands

what we can interpret the borderlands is

how it affected the players

in the last chapter we are met with this group of panels at the start

We are informed of a meteorite attack that happened two years prior to the events of this final chapter. we can grab two things from this:

this meteorite attack is relevant to the story

the story probably spans over two years

Using that first and second point, we can assume that it is not just relevant but that it is probably what the fireworks were in the beginning of the series was.

and in chapter 63 they also use fireworks for parallel as to them finishing all of them games and show is a meteorite hitting what we can assume to be shibuya

so a meteorite hit them? cool, I guess… what can we do with this information?

this leads me to the second question

how can we interpret this?

I guess… it’s more simple now that I put it into words.

Essentially,

it’s a collective state of limbo.

I guess?

It’s a point between life and death where it seems the borderlands are used to create judgment as to if the characters should really die or not.

in order to prove this we have to mix the third point into this

how has it affected the players?

in the end we find the players in the hospital with no memories of what happened in the borderlands but clearly affected

(For some reason I can’t find any panels online for this but I do still have the one of chishiya stocked up because I’m so not normal about him)

for example, Chishiya is affected emotionally and is left feeling better after his clear change of heart in the end of the series.

Niragi lays next to him burnt to a crisp and as far as we know chishiya seems to be hurt as well from the damage caused by niragi. so they’re all obviously somewhat affected by what happens inside when they leave.

Everyone else wakes up from their 2 year (supposedly) coma and is left without memory of the borderland but totally cool with each other. Arisu and Usagi ask each other out (my parents fr fr, thank you AIB Retry), Kuina is being my pookie and they’re all having fun… other than those who aren’t there.

People who died in the borderlands seem to have not made it (Karube, chota, etc), which puts the limbo theory into prospective.

as for the collective part of it… I thought that was obvious

all the meteorite victims are in the borderlands with each other and interact in ways that leave impressions on each other

duh

Look, I know the way I word this makes the writers sound dumb but I actually think it’s creative and kind of refreshing. I half expected to have them turn this shit into as the gods will when I first read the manga…and then I would’ve been left disappointed. and while there is a sequel series to cover I’m glad there’s a happy (albeit, tentative and not long lasted) ending.

I don’t think they’re going to do the sequel manga in the show, sadly. I also feel like it goes without saying that if they continue the show without using the source material other than to give us tooth rotting chishiya fluff and him living his best life after the borderlands then I’m not tuning in 😮‍💨 sorry to whatever this joker bullshit is that i’m hearing about but… lawd 😭😭
