From an anime-only who has stumbled upon so many manga spoilers that she has given up on avoiding most of the Big Important Ones

Laios: autism. We all know this. It’s subtext more than an hc. His biggest special interest is monsters, which we also already knew. Aromantic, but open to relationships anyways. Definitely has some sort of gender fuckery going on but there are monsters to be eaten so he doesn’t have time to worry about that (probably agender but he/him works as well as anything so no need to discuss it)

Marcille: autistic transbian. Decided to take a hard turn into dungeons/illegal magic as a way to maybe avoid gifted kid burnout. Doesn’t realize she’s been dating Falin for [however long they adventured together] yet but she’ll get there eventually. Strictly she/her, due to personal experiences with transphobia. Will explore other pronouns more eventually

Chilchuck: either neurotypical, or was raised by parents who knew exactly the type of thing to do when The Symptoms got to be overly detrimental a la the one mom who would have one(? Or more?) of her kids chop wood as a grounding exercise. Cis, but bi in the “parent says ‘everybody feels this way, it’s normal’ way.” Wayyyyy more invested in keeping Laios and Falin safe than he admits to himself. He/him

Senshi: surprise! okay so when it comes to her gender and identity it's kind of complicated because like. In my mind laois is an She/it/He agender adjacent transfem. But I also don't really think dungeon meshi world would have the same concepts of queerness as we do so I don't think she would describe herself as such.

I feel like her home village would've been very traditional and strict when it came to gender norms and presentation. Growing up I think she'd be ....average(?) when it came to masculinity. She'd be indifferent and not really understand gender roles as a whole but she'd conform to them to avoid any more scrutiny than she already got. And because it was the one "easy" way to be "normal" she just never questioned her adherence to them.

After running away I think she'd react to the new freedom she has in her presentation and just....not give a shit. And not in a good way, I mean like unhealthy levels of not caring because she was finally allowed to not care. It's not until falin says she looks like there dad and she cleans up that she realizes. Oh I can change my appearance in ways that make me feel good about myself and want to continue feeling good about myself.

And then it's not till AFTER she turned into her dream monster that she'd be like. "Being a big huge scary monster didn't fix some of the things I thought it would...maybe something else is going on..."

looking in the tags of transfem laios posts has taught me a surprising number of people do not understand what transfem means

it just means you were amab and transitioned in some way. it does not mean you are a woman or that you are feminine even tho it categorically includes those things. an amab agender person who only transitions socially is still transfem, by definition
