i've become the person everyone gives their orchid to when it stops blooming and they can't be bothered to take care of it. the only problem is i don't really like orchids either... so i'm like oooops it would be a shame if you died because i forgot to water you or gave you improper light.... but they're all thriving under my neglect :/

It's watering day, and we're getting a nice rain here, so I put the big kids outside for a bit. I love the way their leaves look with rain on them.

#the kids' names are Luke and Leia yes #they came in one pot and when i went to repot i realized they were twins. so #they were so so scraggly when i got them #previous owner had them barely supported with bamboo stakes and hair clips #and I'm pretty sure no grow light #in a Michigan winter #they were SO STRETCHED OUT #but I'm a stubborn fool and decided i was more interested in seeing if i could fix them up than in just having a nice monstera plant #so i got them moss poles and a grow light #and as soon as the weather permitted i put them on the enclosed porch #and oh BOY are they loving the light there #luke has put down THREE new aerial roots that i can see #Leia has two and might be about to start a third #their newest leaves are bigger than any of the ones they had when i got them #I'm crossing fingers we'll get some fenestrations soon as well #of course we are only two maybe three months away from frost season again #hopefully I'll be able to keep this momentum with grow lights after they come back inside

I'm trying to give this thing better stakes cause it's getting wild, but I'm hitting so many big roots as I search for a spot where the new stakes can go in without tearing anything up. does this mean the monstera is starting to outgrow its pot already?

this pot is 14 inches in diameter but the only size bigger that the hardware store carries is 16 inches. idk if I should shell out the forty bucks for that if it'll only accommodate this monstera for another 6 months or instead go to a nursery where I can get something that's 18 inches across.

#it would be nice to guide all these fucking aerial roots into a larger pot #people say they die if you put them in dirt but thay has never happened for my monsteras. #maybe cause theyre in plain terra cotta without a nursery pot though so water drains extra well
