All proceeds from any sales with this design will be going to the Aboriginal Literacy Foundation.

This is an idea for a new Australian flag. The top half colour is a very simple mix of the Australian Aboriginal Flag’s black and the blue of the current Oz flag. (Pretty simple mix, but I do like the colour.) The Southern Cross coming up over the horizon gives the idea – I hope – of the vastness of this country, especially when seen in the outback and rural areas. Anyone who’s seen the stars from central Australia will know what I’m talking about.

I’ve decided to include it with my ‘ somersbyman.redbubble.com ’ stuff because it’d be great to raise some money, but also because I want the design to be seen and thought about.

If you like it, feel free to talk about it, share it, and get it out there. Change is good.

#Repost @plentyandzero (@get_repost) ・・・ One of my recycled art projects from a few years ago. This is an Aboriginal Australian flag made out of 100% reclaimed materials. I went op shopping for ugly red, yellow and black knitted clothing and unwound the wool. I took the wool with me to a remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia and taught French knitting to any child who wanted to learn. I then joined all of the work together into this beautiful flag. The backing sheet was also secondhand - a length of fabric from an opshop. Spending time in a remote community where recycling is not available really makes you a lot more conscious about your waste. Any waste in the community I visited was simply buried at a landfill site. Last year was my third year in a row visiting this particular community and volunteering. For my third trip, I wanted to be more conscious about my waste. I took all of my food with me, that was to last me for a month, in a sack.
