About halfblood gundam - how does he spend most of his time? what are some of his concerns when out and about among humans? are there any quirks that he has that are particular to this form of him? also would love to hear more about the complicated feelings he may have towards uh being what he is
How does he spend most of his time?: most of his time is spent tending to his "animal wards" IE: his typical breeder stuff, but with the added mix of the occasional mystical creature mixed in under the magical guise of whichever normal animal it most closely resembles. being a "halfblood", something low in numbers, is typically seen as "weaker", so he feels a need to protect those that are "smaller" or seen as "helpless", even if he doesn't realize that's what draws him to his work. the animals he has of the more supernatural variety are ones that are misunderstood, that don't want to hurt people, but wish to live among them. a common one i use in threads is a keukegen, a disease spirit that closely resembles a small furry dog. it doesn't want to hurt people, but it so desperately wants to be loved by them like its seen others that look like it (aka: just regular dogs) be loved by humans. gundham is able to "tame" this spirit (put a rune etched color about its neck that negates any harmful powers and gives it a more "common" appearance so it can move more freely in the world) because his kind isn't affected by the spirit, hes not human, so it cant hurt him with disease, thus allowing him to gain its trust and give it its wish of being loved
spirits in general are a large part of what he does, though he is only able to see those of animals that have passed since those are the beings he feels the strongest towards on earth, any human spirits would have to be someone who he was very close to when they were alive, which, as you can probably guess, doesn't happen very often. since he is one of the few beings who can see them, being that he works with souls by birthright, he feels its his duty to help these spirits when he can in fulfilling whatever it is they need to pass on, which could be a benevolence for a loved one, or a curse for those that wronged them. he...doesn't sleep much, as you can imagine, feeling as if any moment where he takes time for himself is another moment for a creature to go unhelped. what he really needs is to chill out and realize the word wont die without him, and sometimes hes able to relax in a lull of "necessary" work...that is until the next bout of problems comes along and he gets sucked in all over again...
What are some of his concerns when out and about among humans?: when out among humans, his biggest concern is that something is going to try and attack him and bring harm to those around him, which doesn't happen very often, but its happened enough that he can be wary if something feels Off when hes out somewhere. hes also afraid of breaking humans in general despite his enhanced strength being something he has to focus on to actually use in a capacity that it could hurt someone, but humans are so very fragile, and he has so few that are willing to interreact with him, hed rather die than accidentally hurt them, and dont even get me started on his fear of them or himself being possesed by another demon or even an angel...
Are there any quirks that he has that are particular to this form of him?: the only quirk i can really think of is the fact that hes always cold thanks to his control over ice. he does have body heat, its not like hes a walking corpse, but he is very very noticeably colder to the touch than that of a normal human. it makes it...difficult if he ever needs his temp taken for something, but most just chalk it up to faulty tech and nothing more
oh also he can technically be summoned since he is part demon, and is often the closest one to whoever is doing the summoning since hes on earth and all. if they arent calling for a specific demon, they very well may get him if his power level allows it (IE hes not too magically drained for what is basically teleportation) he...has been to a lot of those stereotypical preteen sleepovers, human girls are fucking scary sometimes... yes sonia has accidentally summoned him and yes it was awkward, its how i like to think her and kaz found out about his heritage in this berse because sonia likes occult stuff and would so try to summon a demon and kaz...well she needed the blood of a virgin and he was the only one willing to offer his up...
as for his feelings about being a demon/angel? he says its a curse, and most may be inclined to agree. it doesn't happen often, because unbeknownst to him demons and angels are afraid of him, but he has been known to get attacked from time to time, either beings wishing to make a grab in power by taking down something high low on the food chain, foolish beings believing him an easy mark despite having eons to hon his powers on earth, a place where hes almost always forced to use his human guise when using his abilities which takes up power in of itself to keep up the illusion, those that wish to make his life hell just because they can (hes "just a half breed" whose gonna stop them?), and even his father or his hired demon goons have been known to fuck with him in an attempt to absorb his power (aka his soul) for themselves, all of this tending to disrupt his life and sometimes even force him to fake his own death and move somewhere else should anyone find his "body" or witness his "death". that hasnt happened in centuries though as its much easier to disappear in plain sight nowadays with how populated earth is.
most every demon and angel that's been around long enough, yes even his mother, knows he has the capacity to be so much stronger than both that of heaven and hell, the "younger" beings often thinking "halfblood" means "muddied" or "diluted" but in reality its a combination of two equally powerful forces that he has yet to realize the potential of.
his mother keeps this from him because she knows that he would set out to kill his father and all those who have tormented them over the years should he find out, which would in turn cause a lot more issues than what they, or even earth, is capable of handling. hes not ready yet, hes still a young adult, or even a teen in some verses, in terms of being what he is, his body may very well combust should he try to tap into those powers now. he needs allies, no matter the species, he needs experience and he needs to be in a better mindset before she would be willing to tell him just how much power sits beneath the surface. as of now its not likely to be something that happens anytime soon, but gundham is slowly learning that not every being is out to get him, and that even humans can be powerful should he give them the chance...

This headcanon was originally posted on @rosafulmen ! I have tidied it up for this blog.
this is my au verse for xv lightning ! like all au's, any character connections i make here do not need to be set in stone for people playing canons from the universe, but it does allow me to more seamlessly incorporate her into a universe rather than default to a 'traveller from another world' or attempt to mash the xiii lore into a blend of xv and verses xiii.
at the tender age of ten years old, claire farron's parents were killed on the outside of the crown city by an out of control daemon attack. with her and her sister ( verse dependant ) orphaned at a young age, this forced her to grow up quickly to survive.
knowing there was financial security in the ranks of the kingsglaive claire began to train in the hopes of being accepted into their ranks but was rejected on account of her age. however, her determination was quickly caught by cor who offered her a deal in exchange for her services. if she undertook all the correct training, both in combat and etiquette, he would consider giving her a place in the crownsguard as a shield for lunafreya, in the same way gladio was for noctis, once the oracle was safe in lucis. given her malleable age, he knew he had a fighting chance of shaping her to be the perfect guardian for his prince's bride.
upon accepting these terms, claire changed her name to lightning and threw herself completely into her training. throughout the years she would have seen the boys from time to time ( most often gladio, due to their training ), but her desire for strength and unbreakable will kept her at a distance and cost her a lot of chances at closer friendship. however, she would have kept regular correspondence with luna on account of her semi-official appointment and worked closely with nyx once she was in the city.
in my mind, the au then has two diverging paths — though i consider one to be more 'canon' than the other. the first, less canon path, is that light was able to help luna to escape the city and go to altissia. however, this is limiting in that it stops me from being able to roleplay light within the road trip section with the boys. if luna roleplayers are interested in that, though, i am happy to play her within that part of the verse. they would have travelled together after the events of the film until noct and the boys arrived in altissia and stayed by her side until her untimely death.
the other more canonical is that light, being a crownsguard rather than a kingsglaive, is unable to use magic. the roles of her duty pertain more to the defence of the people than the war or the killing of daemons and, from a political standpoint, she would not be able to guard luna until she and noctis were married. she would have escaped the city with cor and the other guards but, much like the boys, is waylaid from getting to luna on account of the ports and other political roadblocks. i enjoy the idea of her being an occasional accompaniment for the boys, helping out certain side quests and occasionally camping with them, but doesn't properly accompany them on account of her duties being strictly for Luna and the importance of reaching her as soon as she is able.
i also really like the idea of her owning a motorbike. she probably helps cindy procure parts for it at the beginning of the game, similar to how we upgrade the regalia, and continues to let her tweak it over the years.
after altissia and luna dying, a bruised, battered and grief striken light returned to lucis and joined the kingsglaive. there, with her expertise, she would dedicate herself to keeping her people safe and waiting for the king's return.

genshin spoilers // thoughts on the new archon quest below!
OSIAL OSIAL OSIAL OSIAL –  he’s absolutely the FIRST THING I have to talk about, because this leads to many implications !! Assuming that Abyss does successfully carry out their plan of reviving Osial and granting him a vessel, will we get to see him take a human form? Will he eventually be playable? Will we get lore on him and Morax? And considering Childe’s connections with the abyss, was it intentional that he unleashed Osial? Just how far do his connections go with the Abyss? I’m left with many questions that I hope will eventually be answered, I mean !! You can’t just name drop Osial like that and not expect us to want more!!
But !  that’s enough of him (for now) because I have many other thoughts. I’m not that well versed in what little Khaenri'ah lore we have as of this quest, but I’m interested at the involvement of the gods and what their intentions were in the destruction of Khaenri'ah. Khaenri'ah thrived as a godless civilization. We can assume ( from what we know ) that this must have made the gods feel threatened and their positions of power questioned.
But we also know that Zhongli and Venti aren’t the gods who wish for dominion and power over people. Zhongli willingly gave up his gnosis and stepped down so his people can live for themselves, while Venti has never once ruled over Mondstadt. And if they’re involved in this, then there has to be more behind the decision in carrying out the destruction of Khaenri'ah. Then again, there is still a lot we don’t know about either of them, just we should take what we know about Khaenri'ah with a grain of salt. Especially since we only have Dainsleif’s and Lumine’s account of the events. And what about the Tsaritsa? Do her goals align with the Abyss  – does she also desire to overthrow Celestia? Is THAT why she’s collecting the gnosis?
This all brings about the question – who are the real antagonists? Theories say that it could be the archons, but I honestly don’t think it’s a simple as that. The narrative is possibly building a gray line in that either side isn’t inherently bad or good, especially if it’s true that  Khaenri'ah was harnessing power that could have been deemed as dangerous. I don’t think that justifies their destruction, but it’s something to consider. Though if I would have to pick a main antagonistic force, I would say that it’s Celestia itself. Just what IS Celestia? The fact that we don’t even know THAT much is frightening.
That is to say, I have no doubt that the archons are more than they let on. Do they know that the creatures of the Abyss were once the people of Khaenri'ah? And what about characters like Kaeya and Dainsleif, where do they align? Are they capable of turning into creatures of the Abyss too? Just how much does Kaeya – and even Childe, know?
And of course, there’s also the twins. How much does Lumine (or Aether, though she is the default antagonist) know compared to say, Dainsleif and the archons? Why does she put so much of the blame on Dainsleif? This really emphasizes just how much of the narrative depends on the perspective of the characters. We have Lumine and Aether, the outsiders. Dainsleif and Kaeya, people of Khaenri'ah. The Archons – rulers of the seven nations, tied to Celestia. Things won’t really start piecing together until we get each part of the story from all sides involved.
Because much like Aether, we’re left in the dark. We’re still only scraping the surface, I’m sure of it. I’m curious to see how he will react once everything is revealed to him, how differently ( or perhaps similar!) will he take it as opposed to Lumine. And does the truth of what happened justify eliminating the seven nations  – involving millions who aren’t even connected or aware of what had happened all those years ago?
This quest has left A LOT to think about, and it’s honestly difficult to judge just who is in the wrong here when we don’t have the full picture just yet.

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; mun & muse - meme.
Tumblr media
TAGGED BY: @hyaciiintho ( ;-; AAA THANK!!! )

FILL OUT & REPOST ♥ this meme definitely favors canons more, but i hope oc’s still can make it somehow work with their own lore, and lil’ fandom of friends & mutuals. multi-muses pick the muse you are the most invested in atm.
----------------------------------------------------
MY MUSE IS:   CANON / OC / AU / CANON-DIVERGENT / FANDOMLESS
Is your character popular in the fandom?  YES / NO
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES  / NO / IDK (he’s fetishized a lot; thanks, i hate it)
Is your character considered strong in the fandom? YES / NO / IDK (i’d lean more toward no)
Are they underrated?  YES / NO
Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO / MAYBE (stares into the abyss)
Were they relevant for the main character?  YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG
Are they widely known in their world?  YES / NO / MAYBE
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL (true neutral, my boy)
HOW STRICTLY DO YOU FOLLOW CANON? ♠ || i have an ongoing joke that “canon is a slab of meat that we slow-roast at 475 degrees and carve for the juicy bits” but at the same time it’s not a joke at all, i’m being perfectly serious. i’m definitely a lot less strict than when i started for writing canon characters way back yonder, but i also DO like to keep within an array of canon boundaries because i’m not writing for an OC in this instance, i’m writing for an established character. ...it also doesn’t help that my character’s handled differently in the 4 types of media he shows up in but. i grew up reading DC comics and writing for beast boy, so i’m kind of used to “multiple takes existing for singular character”.
that being said, my take on dol is clearly canon divergent (since... he’s alive and my default verse takes place after the nest raid) but it pulls primarily from brotherhood/manga with a couple dashes of 2k3 series (since that’s the only media that gives us a length of time that he was in the labs). but given that i follow along with just about every scrap of information provided in the manga on this clown, i’d say i follow canon fairly strictly... but there ain’t a lot to go off of, so my reins are pretty loose no matter how you look at it. my city now.
SELL YOUR MUSE! AKA TRY TO LIST EVERYTHING, WHICH MAKES YOUR MUSE INTERESTING IN YOUR OPINION TO MAKE THEM SPICY FOR YOUR MUTUALS.   ♠ || (* ̄3 ̄)╭ well, hello, there. aware of dog? yes. this is he: dolcetto mcgrouchyboots, and he is not happy to be here at all. he is traumatized, sassy, wants to throw hands with teenagers, has no sense of self worth, and will absolutely use himself as a meat shield in order to protect any and everyone he cares about. he is spliced with: dog. his favorite weapon: sword. if you listen carefully, you might hear dog-song rising on the east wind as he approaches (don’t tell him axel taped a cassette player to his back). he comes from a found family of complete and utter morons with a lot of damage, they live in a partially underground bar, work as information brokers, and are all DEFINITELY fully functioning adult people. they say gay and trans rights. if you like angry boys with a sense of humor semi-on-par with griffin mcelroy, this is the boy for YOU!!!
NOW THE OPPOSITE, LIST EVERYTHING WHY YOUR MUSE COULD NOT BE SO INTERESTING (EVEN IF YOU MAY NOT AGREE, WHAT DOES THE FANDOM PERHAPS THINK?).   ♠ ||  he’s only featured in a handful of episodes/chapters across all media, doesn’t have a significant amount of dialogue, and we only ever see him lose to the protagonist(s) despite that he seems more than capable of fighting anyone else. easy to brush off as a “aw he died and that’s sad but we didn’t really know him, moving on”. from what i’ve seen in my years, people are more interested in him being a cog in the machine of “greed is sad” and less interested in... HIM. which is fair, i guess, but hhhhhh
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RP YOUR MUSE?   ♠ || i don’t know if i can pin-point any ONE thing, but i’ve always been drawn to characters with some sort of connection or bond with animals (example, once again, being beast boy from teen titans). i also have an IMMENSE weakness for the found-family dynamic. so when the devil’s nest appeared during my first watch through of brotherhood, i was pretty much... hooked. immediately. and devastated. immediately. as for what drew me to writing dol, specifically... probably his loyalty, his drive, the fact that he WOULDN’T FUCKING STAY DOWN no matter how many times someone knocked him flat on his face. i vibe with that. grew up very much in the mentality of “fall down 7 times, get up 8″. also, he had a sword... which always beats guns on coolness factor. and i loved his fire. ...and that he was a complete fucking idiot who’s really bad at kidnapping i mean HOLY SHIT THAT’S HOW YOU TRIED TO GET HIM TO COME WITH YOU, DOLCETTO, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING--
WHAT KEEPS YOUR INSPIRATION GOING? ♠ ||  dol has always been a great source of ...venting for me? <xD ever since i started writing him, i’ve always found his muse--specifically--to be extremely cathartic and comforting. i dunno if it’s because he lets the more... jaded side of me come out, even when we’re both trying to be optimistic?
because i’ve been in 2 emotionally abusive friendships. i definitely have some left over hurt, pent up anger that hasn’t been given closure, a hell of a lot of underlying bitterness that i never got the opportunity to confront those people, BUT i still try to be. y’know. welcoming, friendly, supportive, despite a voice in the back of my head being paranoid?? i think dol continues to give me outlets to expressing that. somehow. not that i use him as an excuse to do it, more so i have more opportunities to do it when i’m writing him as opposed to writing someone like beast boy, who’s usually more on board with keeping the peace than picking a fight. i’ve also invested SO MUCH TIME and ENERGY into his background and headcanons and things that i kind of can’t quit him now, nor do i want to.
... and aside from that i just want him to have a happy ending god, fucking damnit.
SOME MORE PERSONAL QUESTIONS FOR THE MUN.
give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO ( or i certainly hope so )
Do you frequently write headcanons? YES / NO
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES  / NO
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day?  YES / NO
Are you confident in your portrayal?   YES / NO
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO ( definitely have moments but eh! )
Are you a sensitive person?  YES  / NO ( kind of... varies. i’d say i’m more hyper aware)
DO YOU ACCEPT CRITICISM WELL ABOUT YOUR PORTRAYAL?   ♠ || i definitely like to think i do when it comes to pre-established things in canon. but when it comes to what i’ve built on my own over my years of writing for dol (and the nest members as a whole), it’s kind of my sandbox and i’d appreciate you not stomp around in it.
unless i need to be learned a thing, like... one of the nest members, vi, is a trans-woman. i’m a cis-woman and i try to do as much research as i can and educate myself, but if i ever fuck something up please tell me, i’m doing my best but i’m more than willing to listen. i want to grow.
DO YOU LIKE QUESTIONS, WHICH HELP YOU EXPLORE YOUR CHARACTER?   ♠ || pretty sure everyone does! >xD but yeah! i FUCKING love it. especially since i’m writing for a minor character. =//o//= it shows people are interested in him despite his overall lack of content.
IF SOMEONE DISAGREES TO A HEADCANON OF YOURS, DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY?   ♠ || i’d definitely be curious as to why but i doubt i’d be offended or take ... any personal harm from it--y’know? it’d be more of a “let me hear your perspective and maybe it’ll expand my own understanding, or i might not agree after the explanation and that’s cool”!
an exception would be for an obviously shitty one that’s shitty for no reason, like... acTUALlY, he’s TOtaLLY hom///o///pho//bic, to which i’d be like “bitch, no, get away from me; no one in this bar is straight, die mad”.
IF SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOUR PORTRAYAL, HOW WOULD YOU TAKE IT?   ♠ || again, it’s cool! there’s not a lot of canon material so you can take his portrayal a variety of places. if we don’t jive, it’s pretty whatever.
my one exception to this is probably people who, in the past, have told me i write him being “too mean”. which will never cease to confuse me. because even after al straight told dolcetto he was 14, dol was still like “I REALLY WANNA SMACK HIM but i’d just hurt my hand so you’re off the hook”, he’s angry like 85% of his dialogue in the manga... i’m just confused. where are you seeing the “uwu pupper~” persona. you can write it, that’s fine, i don’t care, just don’t get irritable when i don’t write him like a cute puppy. because here he is. suggesting we just kill izumi because she’s being troublesome. yeet. ...he’s an asshole.
IF SOMEONE REALLY HATES YOUR CHARACTER, HOW DO YOU TAKE IT?   ♠ || whatever, just don’t be a dick or speak badly about me or him in my presence because, flawed as he is and while i won’t make excuses for him, i’ll stand up for him. go somewhere else, my dude. i, personally, don’t have the energy for your negativity. nor do i have the patience.
ARE YOU OKAY WITH PEOPLE POINTING OUT YOUR GRAMMATICAL ERRORS?   ♠ ||  i’m more okay with people correcting my spelling (gently). because of the way i taught myself to read, i’d be FUCKED if auto-correct or spell-check didn’t exist. i also google correct spellings constantly. so spelling, yeah, i already know that i’m terrible at it so feel free to correct type-os or spelling mishaps, it ain’t no thang.
grammar i’m a bit... pickier about. because sometimes i’ll purposely do a “grammatical error” because the punctuation or otherwise further drives the pacing or mood i’m trying to give my writing. i may not know ALL the rules but i break them from time to time... FOR THE ART.
DO YOU THINK YOU ARE EASY GOING AS A MUN?   ♠ || i wanna say i am?? while i definitely do want to seriously explore and flesh out and grow dol as a muse and character, i’m “not above” goofing around, poking fun at him, or just being plain silly on the dash. RPing is escapism for me and i strive to keep my blog a peaceful safe haven on the dashboard, both for myself and my followers.
i try to communicate to the best of my ability and despite my anxieties, and while i may not be able to follow or RP with EVERYONE (for obvious reasons) i’m open to interacting with ... pretty much anyone who throws me a bone. i’ll speak up if i’m not down for a plot or interested in a certain relationship or interaction, but i’m certainly not going to be rude or dismissive about it. i know what that feels like. i’d say yeah, though! i think i’m pretty chill. e-e you tell me.

General crossover info for my non-Vampire Diaries mutuals until I can fix Liv’s crossover verses (excluding Legacies):
Hi. She’s a witch. I do have her abilities listed on my blog, but that list is not the full extent of her abilities and they can always change.
If either you’re uncomfortable roleplaying with a supernatural character or for whatever reason you think that writing with her might just be easier in an all-human setting, I absolutely can write her as a normal human. That being said, I will never default to this and if this is what you’d prefer, then I require that we talk about it ooc so that I can rework her backstory specific to our verse.
She was raised in a coven and was/is next in line to compete to become leader of it. Her coven has a tradition where the new leader must be a born twin and at the age of 22 is expected to participate in this ceremony called a “merge” where the twins competitively merge their magic into one person; the stronger of the two absorbs all of the magic between the two and becomes more powerful while the weaker of the two dies. The survivor will lead the coven and is expected to have children until they have twins of their own who can later continue the tradition.
While I’ve gone back and forth on it, I’ll likely go off of the idea that Liv and her twin chose to not merge their magic but to instead use their magic together to create a cloaking spell to keep themselves hidden from their coven and any tracking spells they could devise. They part ways to make finding both of them more challenging (as both of them must be present to complete the spell). In many cases, this means that she is on the run, but when settling in larger cities, she can stay for longer.
If you’re not familiar with covens, to be bluntly honest, you’re welcome to think of her coven as something similar to a cult. She wants nothing to do with them and is angry with them for asking her and her siblings to sacrifice themselves.
She’s one of 7 children; 3 were murdered as children, which leaves only herself and her brother alive, as well as her two oldest siblings, another pair of twins, also alive. Her oldest brother is an undiagnosed (but entirely diagnosable if a doctor were stupid enough to get close enough to try), psychopath. Circumstantially, she has trauma revolving around the now several times he’s tried to kill her.
She’s a college dropout; depending on the verse setting, she may have opted to go back to school.
Her job is generally wide open, but she’s an experienced bartender and server, so she gravitates toward the restaurant industry. She also might side hustle as a witch for hire, within reason at least. She may have even been a psychic; everyone thinks she’s scamming them, but that’s fine by her, as it keeps her secret intact. Don’t be mad when her premonitions are right, though.
In The Vampire Diaries, she died at the age of 22. For obvious reasons, I’m choosing to ignore that. Given the weird timeline of the show on top of the fact that the show is now a few years past its finish, I did some math and figured out that in the year 2020, Liv would be 29. This is perfect since it’s more age-appropriate to her FC anyway. I will be writing her as 29 years old unless specified otherwise.
She’s bisexual.
Fun magic fact: Her telekinesis is strong enough to stop a speeding truck with the force of the equivalent of another speeding truck. Your car will be totaled. You might not survive (if you’re human).
Another fun abilities-related fact: When being attacked by someone who she thinks can overpower her (mostly talking about non-humans), her favorite impulse defenses are to either blow something up (an extension of her telekinetic powers, sometimes combining with her pyrokinetic abilities when the situation calls for it) or give the attacker a supernaturally-charged brain aneurysm (a favorite among many witches). They’re spells that she learned as a kid which in fact doesn’t mean that it’s a weak spell, but rather that she’s had a LOT of time to perfect it; attack at your own risk.
She’s practiced magic for her entire life. Unlike many witches who discover their abilities during puberty, she’s been practicing since the day she could speak. She is a very powerful witch and is not new nor surprised by different species and abilities that could come up. She’s an expert in witchcraft and is deeply familiar with vampires, werewolves, travelers, ghosts, doppelgangers, and thanks to having dated one, vampire-werewolf hybrids. She understands the supernatural enough to know that there are still things out there that she is not familiar with and that new things are popping up all the time. She suspects the existence of various human-related supernatural entities, such as banshees, sirens, and more. If you roleplay within a fandom that has mythical elements, then no sweat; even if I as the mun aren’t familiar with the lore of your fandom, I’ll learn along with Liv as the characters get to know each other.
She’s a total emo, don’t @ her.
Despite being a loner, she has a hard time being alone. At the very least, she has always had her brother. Being separated from him is deeply and sometimes physically painful for her. She doesn’t always know how to handle it, but will tell you in the moment if you let her.
Post on my canon-divergence for my tvd main verse to come soon!

How I Run My Blog
Tumblr media
I’ve been seeing these on the dash, and it’s Munday, so I’mma do it too.
Speed: Okay, so. I’m pretty FAST for the most part. I’ve bounced back replies in only a handful of hours, in cases where the muse is strong. Otherwise it’s maybe a day or two to get a reply back to you. No more than little over a week at the very latest. S
Replies: I’ll always try to match length, but in doing so will usually end up going OVER. I noticed my usual length is maybe about.. three paragraphs? But I tend to dip into the longer sides quite easily when it comes to heavier / character driven threads. Which I won’t apologise for. I kinda live for that shit. But please let me know if it’s not your jam. I’ve been pretty lucky in that a lot of my main mutuals seem to also be geared that way.
I don’t tend to shitpost often since I’m always kinda paranoid it mine aren’t funny ( or is even outright cringe ) but I appreciate seeing it on the dash.
Starters: I like writing starters. Though I’m kinda worried that mine might end up being a bit ‘daunting’ because they tend to be a bit.. lengthy. Usually since I’m trying to set a general setting, scenario, or mood, for the thread itself. I’ll post starter calls on occasion or prompts that can be turned into threads.
Inbox: Is pretty much always open, especially to mutuals. I don’t get many questions asking about Noctus ( or the extended lore of his world ) so I always appreciate them. They’re a good excuse to ramble IC/OCC about stuff. That and I enjoy when people kinda ‘check in’ with their characters as well.
Selectivity: I’m semi-selective though not-private. So I’ll write with people I’m not mutuals with & accept prompts from them, however mutuals will always have priority with threads. I’m kinda testing the waters since I don’t want to go private.
If I don’t follow back it’s not inherently a personal indicator. I’ve got some non-mutuals that I check out every few days/weeks for their activity. I’ll send in prompts, ect, no differently than if we were mutuals. It may just be I don’t feel our characters / writing would click or they post a lot of ooc. There are some blogs I check sporadically as well since, when they followed me, they didn’t have any recent posts of threads. So I couldn’t gauge how things might click between us.
Wishlist: I don’t have a big wishlist since, being an OC blog, I don’t always get a whole heap of control over the range of characters I may get to interact with. But some include;
Mobian!Noctus getting to study the chaos emeralds
Mobian!Noctus sharing a class with Starline during their university days
A ‘ Be More Chill’ inspired crossover
A slow burn manipulation type thread with a villain character
A villainous AU for Noctus in any of his verses.   ( This maybe linking in with the manipulation one)
Honest Note: I’m somewhat of a ‘social chameleon’ when it comes to talking to people, especially online. So if you want a chill crescent ( the default ) or a slightly more hyper/rambly Crescent then that is totally up to you.
Also while I don’t practice exclusives, I won’t follow-first any duplicates of my mains’ characters. Which means I won’t search out, for example, Shadow or Silver blogs. If blogs for those characters follow me first  though then I may follow back. My mains are super precious to me both IC & OOC after all. They’re not something I go making super lightly.

THE POSITIVE & NEGATIVE; Mun & Muse - Meme.
fill out & repost ♥
Tumblr media
Mun note: I’m gonna put this below the cut cause it’s a biiiig tag. But if you do read it, hmu honestly cause I’ve love to chatting.
And if you do it? Let me know! I love learning about people’s connection to their muses, new or old.
My muse is:   canon / oc / au / canon-divergent / fandomless /
Is your character popular in the fandom?  YES / NO.
Is your character considered hot™ in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK.
Is your character considered strong in the fandom?  YES / NO / IDK (Mixed impressions depending on who you ask and how you ask it I reckon.)
Are they underrated?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant to the main story?  YES / NO.
Were they relevant to the main character?  YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG.
Are they widely known in their world?  YES / NO.
How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL.
How strictly do you follow canon?
OG Canon, By default, up until Zack’s canonical death, I follow canon very muchly. (That doesn’t mean I’m not open to earlier plotted divergence though!) If the overall plot ends with death, then I’m alright with that, I love the handing on of the torch from Angeal to Zack to Cloud. My goal is to never minimize that. But for interactions beyond the end of Crisis Core, I have two particular verses that I absolutely adore based on already established lore and my own head-canons for how Zack would continue.
OG Canon Remake Canon, while it’s nice for options and I don’t mind it, on a technical front I think it weakens the ongoing plot for other characters who then wouldn’t have been forced to grow so much themselves. I enjoyed the remake, but regarding Zack it’s not my cup of tea. I’ll write remake by request, but it’s not my default.
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutual.
His genuine care for those around him with unrelenting selflessness is both heartwarming -and heart-wrenching.
Zack’s journey from naivety about the world and events around him to recognizing the harm of the organization he’s been directly a part of. He grows in both substance and maturity as he’s increasingly forced to reckon with reality.
Chasing after an idea which is realized but not how he once imagined it.
While Zack is strong, he’s most certainly not the strongest. I enjoy playing with weakness.
Almost relentless optimism. How he pushes onward to continue trying to pick up the pieces. Additionally as such a genuine character and I hope that love comes through in my portrayal.
Look. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But on a personal my muse front, despite my love for him I love putting him in situations where I get to break him down to build back up again because that’s his strength as a character.
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).
His early naivety and blind loyalty to ShinRa. (IMO tho, you gotta have a ‘from’ in order to have a ‘to’)
Puppy goofy himbo dummy. (At least, that’s how some people see him.)
Almost relentless optimism.
Some feel he draws away from Cloud’s story.
Just-
Look again.
What inspired you to rp your muse?
Have you ever had a time when you’re watching or playing something and there’s just a character you really identify with like, not just ‘oh, me’ - but beyond that in an almost scary way? For where I was in life and what I was going through, Zack was exactly that for me, and I fell in love with how kept pushing through.
So that was four years ago, and I RP’d him privately within friend groups. Said friends of course moved on from the fandom and I just quietly always wanted to come back to him, there were so many things I’d come up with that I hadn’t gotten to using yet in writing.
So late last year when a friend decided to get into FF7 I made my blog(s) to join them. :3 I did go on hiatus when 7R came out to avoid spoilers as I didn’t have access to a console through the lockdown in my country to play, but I’ve finally returned. (And now you have like a million blogs shgjfjkasghfd.)
What keeps your inspiration going?
On a personal note, Zack’s been an intrinsic part of my life for the past four years. Even when friend groups moved on from the fandom in waves coming and going, he’s never really gone from my life because I live in a fairly small country and he’s one of two cosplays I’m known for here in con/geek circles. (I’ve even Cosplayed him for an official event! <3)
On a writing front, honestly, as I said before, I love the way he keeps on keeping on no matter what’s thrown at him. I don’t want his journey to end. I want him to fall again and again but also to conquer those shortcomings and rise stronger.
That doesn’t have to make him the strongest in body, but in mind that makes him a personal hero for me at least so he’s forever an inspiration. Despite the labels applied to his dream, (See my URL) the pursuit as such defines him admirably.
Some more personal questions for the mun.
Give your mutuals some insight about the way you are in some matters, which could lead them to get more comfortable with you or perhaps not.
Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO.
Do you frequently write headcanons?  YES / NO. (I have a terrible habit of keeping most of em in my head, but they do exist. I’m trying to get better at posting them casually. I know they're good at helping prospective RP partners work out openings for interactions. ;; )
Do you sometimes write drabbles?  YES / NO. (Honestly this is usually what happens when I do try to do a HC post, It becomes a drabble incorporating it instead. Whoops?)
Do you think a lot about your Muse during the day? YES / NO.
Are you confident in your portrayal?   YES / NO.
Are you confident in your writing?  YES / NO.
Are you a sensitive person?  YES / NO.
Do you accept criticism well about your portrayal?
Criticism and Critique. Boy oh boy. That’s gonna be a pass, please.
Unsolicited criticism sucks. That’s not what I’m here for, nor many of us I expect. Miss me with that anxiety spike. I’ve done study in writing for films. I know a lot of technical stuff. But I also enjoy switching that off and allowing things to happen. I’m also a performer, and the the improvisational and spontaneous reactionary side is just as important as the plotted. I’m here for fun to explore what I want with other like minded people. Not for criticism.
‘Hey have you thought about ___’ - that’s okay. If we grow together, cool, that’s great! In fact, it kinda leads into the next question.
Do you like questions, which help you explore your character?
Yeeee! Please. Just be aware I’m sometimes slow with my inbox though I am getting better at this!
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?
Unless it’s something that clashes between our two muses like a death or lack-thereof, or important shared-background things that needs discussing, I don’t think there’s much reason for it to be brought up. My headcanons exist for the general purpose of ‘without outside influence, this is my default.’ - that’s it. Sometimes they just aren’t relevant.
If it’s simply ‘I don’t like this this idea’ see the next answer.
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?
If someone does, please don’t tell me. You can go write him yourself or find another closer to how you perceive him. My portrayal is my own, and I don’t need to conform to your idea of what Zack would do or say. Neither of us need to waste energy on this.
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?
If it’s my muse, fine. But don’t get aggressive at me about it. I’m also a Genesis mun, so I get the rivalry. But cool your jets.
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?
Sure. In fact please. Honestly, @ RP partners, I don’t mind if you quietly fix em yourself. Dyslexia’s an uphill battle. I’ll often edit posts after the fact if I notice my own mistakes, so sure. But @ Readers, please don’t get at my RP partners grammar. This is consent for my writing, not theirs. Though also don’t be a pick-apart grammar police just to get to me. Have some sense about it. ;)
Do you think you are easy going as a mun?
I can be very talkative. Honestly if that surprises you despite my choice of muses with Zack and Gen then gaia help you. So uh, heads up on that. If I haven’t talked to you yet, the key word is ‘yet’ - I’m just working out where to start or for something to react to.
That’s about it, congrats for filling out!

So! the silence in between was a monster of a fic. Officially, it’s the longest fanfic I’ve ever written, clocking in around 12.6k words. I’ve learned a lot from this experience, but I wanted to share with you some of the notes I’ve collected about writing it. I love talking about writing! Spoiler alert: this is very long.
Amagi’s arc plays very differently in both the games and anime. The initial inspiration for having this fic be from Yukie’s POV is the fact that, in the games, she is actually present for Mahoro and Amagi’s big confrontation. They’re billed as a trio, but we get so little in the way of backstory or development for her friendship with them that I immediately started crying one night and spat out the first chapter.
I decided to work with the game verse following that fact, so especially with the last chapter, deviation from the anime is absolutely intentional. In the games, Megane finds the manual for Atlantis Wall, calls ahead to get it on reserve, and Amagi, already upset, charges ahead of the rest of the team to get there first and accidentally has a run-in with Mahoro and Yukie.
Yukie is actually the granddaughter of Mr. Magic Moves himself! That’s 100% true to the games.
Mahoro is probably the biggest deviation to the game timeline for this fic. I did write his dialogue with his anime counterpart in mind, mostly because I think between the two of them, the anime did a better job of capturing his hopelessness. Mahoro in the games acts a lot more like pre-heel face turn Tsurugi than anything else.
Amagi I tried to write somewhere between both his game and anime counterparts. I think his dialogue feels the most consistent between the two adaptions.
One thing you’ll probably notice is that Hikaru’s involvement is.... nonexistent. Again, this is something that’s different in the games. He does have relevance to the chapter, but he and Yukie don’t interact in any real capacity like in the anime.
Title comes from No Light, No Light by Florence and the Machine. Everyone will eventually have a fic named after this song in some form, so might as well try to be a hipster and choose a section that isn’t the obvious. Silence being a theme in the story, it felt relevant.
Originally I’d conceived this fic as having more chapters covering more specific chunks of Yukie’s life. But then I realized I could hit the high points in 4 because that’s Amagi’s jersey number!! So I did. That.
I now understand why so many video game anime adaptions say “FUCK GAME MECHANICS” because it was an absolute nightmare to try and figure out how I wanted to explain the manual shop. I think the fact that it feels deliberately old-fashioned in the games helps out somewhat. Considering how behind the times Yukie’s Grandfather is (a landline?! in 2018?! actually that’s fairly common I deal with enough business accounts at work to know) hopefully it doesn’t seem too weird that a move archive would exist in the digital age. You wouldn’t download a hissatsu
Every place ever but the subs I originally watched for Go spell it Genei, not Gen’ei, but dang it I’m going with what I know!!
Balance posts are a real thing. I literally didn’t know what they were called until now.
Mahoro is a defender in Resistance Japan. Amagi and Yukie are of course defenders by default in-game. It just felt right having that be his original position as a kid. I think he’d be great at it!
SO. A lot of things had to be fleshed out for the trio to break apart. It’s a sort of rift that could potentially be solved with a phone call or the fact that it’s 2018 by the end and probably have cell phones. I did have to do some extra lifting in order to make the drifting apart a little more convincing. A combination of moving, life events, and misunderstandings shown in the canon was what I landed with.
A lot... of emotions were felt writing out the scene in chapter two where Yukie’s grandfather falls. I have literally been in her shoes. It’s something you never quite get out of your head. The circumstances were different, but the core emotions I tried to channel into it are the same.
Fun fact: all of the side characters in Chapter 3 are actually real characters in the games!
This is Kadotsuka.
This is Kureno.
And this is Coach Yatsuhaka! Poor coach. I couldn’t find a way to slip his candle motif in.
Was a former Occult member purposefully chosen to call back to the fact that 10 years later they’re still probably getting flak for the cheating thing? From a former Raimon team member, no less? Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Yes, the man in white was Senguuji. I saw the chance and took it.
A lot of Fifth Sector stuff ultimately got cut, which is sad but it just ended up not being relevant to the points in the fic I wanted to make. Ditto a lot of team interactions, as well as Gen’ei Lore. Ask me about my Gen’ei Lore
I still made a chart for all the team members of Gen’ei so I didn’t have to keep booting up my game or looking at the wiki.
#SeidouzanWasZeus. Stay shady, school.
Maboroshi Shot coming from Phantom Shoot (which is an old, ooooold shoot from way back in s1) is an important hc to me, because I find the idea of hissatsu ownership and evolution a fascinating thing to look at in the context of Inazuma. People remix and evolve moves all the time, and I have a few theories about certain shots becoming others in the period between the original series and Go.
Amagi is not a Watch User, nor is he a Pillar Man.
One thing that hit me in the middle of writing the last chapter is that Yukie.... as far as we can tell, at least.... never sees a good example of an Avatar, or a context where they’re not just an extension of Fifth Sector’s power. She probably doesn’t like them much at all.
Fun game fact: each stadium has their own mini route leading up to them. So that conversation actually does take place in a snowy path in game.
...Yes, Kurumada does make a comment about Yukie being an ex-girlfriend. It’s so tonally awkward that I had to include it because it’s the most middle school “read the ROOM” moment. It cracks me up.
Yearly reminder that there’s two Meganes.
SO. Two particular quirks of my writing style:
One is that I HATE describing hair color with a passion. I will do just about anything to avoid it unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Two is that I hate writing dialogue verbatim, unless I’m quoting something extremely iconic. Pretty much 80% of the dialogue in the last chapter is inspired by either the game scene or the anime scene.
Yukie running after Mahoro also happens in-game! I just fleshed out the conversation following it, hehe.
One thing I just could not fully acknowledge without derailing the ending was the fact that Gen’ei’s match against Raimon canonically happens right after the first Go movie. Amagi has God Eden fresh in his head the entire time. Let that sink in. I’m not happy with the brief dancing around of it, either, but it felt wrong to not bring it up in some form.
AND...... THAT’S THAT. Thank you to everyone who joined me on this wild adventure!

Melody Info
Tumblr media
Full name: Princess Melody Strand
Species: Half-human and half-mermaid
Age: 14 - 17 ( verse dependant )
Sexuality: Panseaxual
FC(s): Mackenzie Foy ( Main ) || Lilla Crawford ( Alt ) || Lucy Hale ( Alt ) || Hina Amano ( Weathering with You ) || Umi Sonoda ( LoveLive )
Bio: Melody, a feisty and adventurous one, is the only daughter of Prince Eric and Ariel, a former mermaid; thus she’s the best of both worlds and took a lot from both of her parents. Even Sebastian once said, “You’re just like your mother.” For many years Melody wasn’t actually allowed to go to the sea because of the thread of Ursula’s sister, Morgana, but now that she’s defeated Melody is free to go in and out of the sea, both worlds don’t have to be separated anymore and Melody can spend time with both sides of her family, rather it is at the land with her parents and the castle’s staff, or under the sea with her grandpa and her six aunts.
Note: Follows movie canon and other Little Mermaid lore except the TV show ( as I haven’t seen it ). Will also incorporate info from the book “Part of Your World - A Twisted Tale”.
[ MAIN || INBOX || HEADCANONS || VISAGE || MUSINGS ]
V001: Best of Both Worlds
Default main verse, which takes place after the events of The Little Mermaid 2. Melody is free to go to the sea as much as she likes, and this time she can spend time not only with her mother but also her grandpa and six mermaid aunts. It’s a dream come true for the young princess, who now is able to switch between being a human and a mermaid at will – all thanks to her grandfather, of course, who enchanted the golden locket to change her form whenever she wished for it.
V002: Princess of Disaster
A verse set before the main events of the movie. Melody is a feisty twelve-year-old who has an interesting and strong fascination for the sea, but the darn wall around the palace doesn’t let her go out as she pleases. She doesn’t want to disobey her parents, but she feels the call from the water and is constantly sneaking out to enjoy herself.
V003: Newfound Freedom
A verse with an alternate ending to The Little Mermaid 2.  What if Melody had chosen to be a mermaid and live with King Triton under the sea? A couple of months passed since Morgana’s defeat and Melody is happy and content living with the family she never knew she had, of course, she visits her parents frequently but loves her new life as a mermaid.
V004: Rebel Teenager
A modern verse. Melody really shouldn’t have any reason to constantly argue with her mother or rebel from time to time, she has a wonderful life… a very BORING, wonderful life. She’s almost never allowed to do anything she likes, like swimming, and has to go to the swimming pool in secret to finally feel at peace.
V005: Fish Out of Water
A Descendants verse.  Even as the daughter of a very iconic princess, Melody has always been a fish out of water. She doesn’t have many friends at home and much less in Auradon where she’s currently living and studying. While her relationships with other royals and most other girls is quite alright, Mel still spends most of her time alone or with Doug
V006: Her Own Adventure
A Pokemon verse. Melody and her family are from the Alola region; to be more specific, they live on Melemele island, in Hau'oli City. She was just like any other child, happy where she lives but with an extreme urge to explore what’s out there and see all the kids of Pokemon there are. When her tenth birthday arrived, Melody began her trip just like most kids do at that age. Her starter Pokemon was Popplio since she’s from Alola and Melody always had a preference for water and the ocean itself.
As of right now, almost fourteen years old, Melody managed to have a team of five Pokemon that she loves with all her heart – she made sure to keep the water theme as a personal preference. One day, the little girl would love to visit other regions of the world, meet new people, and battle with them. Her current team is:
Brionne ( The Popplio that has been with her since the beginning, after his first evolution )
Vulpix ( An Alolan Vulpix, so it’s an ice type )
Milotic ( Evolved from a Feebas she captured a year ago )
Vaporeon ( Evolved from an Eevee she captured not long after her trip began )
Tentacruel ( Evolved from a Tentacool she found on its own two years ago )
V007: Singing Like Nobody’s Watching
A Glee verse. Melody Strand had lived most of her childhood and part of her teenage years with both of her parents in Denmark. They were happy. And yet, they still had to move to America due to her father’s job requiring him to move to Ohio ( of all places! ). Moving wasn’t what troubled her the most, in fact, she was quite excited to see new places and even the language barrier wouldn’t be that much of a problem ( or so she hoped ) – what got her emotions all over the place was changing schools.
That’s normal for some kids and she could see it coming from a mile away with this new chapter in her life. But it still sucked. She was grateful that the few friends she had back in Denmark had known each other since childhood, so they’re pretty aware of socially awkward she can be. It wasn’t a surprise for Mel to have made little to no interactions with other students on her first day at Mckinley High.
None of the clubs piqued her interest, not even Synchronized Swimming ( it wasn’t for her ), until one day, during her first week, she saw the paper advertising the school’s Glee Club. She didn’t join right away and was unsure about it, but her mother Ariel, who used to be a part of Glee Club back when she was younger, encouraged her to break out from her shell and try something new.
In the end, after one simple audition, Melody was allowed to be a permanent member of New Directions. She’s still nervous about performing on stage – however, whenever she sings, it becomes pretty clear how passionate she can be.

Attack on Backlog 2017 - No. 9
Final Fantasy XV
Breakdown: PS4 version at 80ish hrs for the Platinum. Plenty of post-game content left undone; plenty of pre-timeskip content left untouched; figure I’ll go back to the game someday (ha ha, not likely) and be like, oh wow, this single-player MMO still has a lot of questing left for me to do, cool (but that won’t happen).
Final Fantasy 15 is a big, beautiful, incomplete, incoherent but ultimately fulfilling and worthwhile experience that won’t disappoint if you have realistic expectations. So, it’s kind of like being in a relationship! Hah. Speaking of relationships, like the ones depicted in this game, and also like my own with the FF series...
TL;DR time! So far I’ve gotten as far as:
Sephiroth’s fight in FF7 where I parked my characters outside of the crater and went, Nah, putting a stop to that glorious (ly pathetic) summer where I spent my 13th or 14th birthday leveling up Materia or something. Whew. Somehow I just lost the nerve to continue despite grinding for hours upon hours. I didn’t even have KotR, so naturally I skipped Ruby Weapon and that just made defeating Sephiroth kind of... pointless?
disc 3 in FF9, but because I’d neglected and refused to learn Tetra Master up to that point, I pretty much hit a roadblock and could not progress. Thanks a lot! Thanks a fucking lot. I really liked this FF. The soft limits on class specialization, with the way weapons conferred different skills to different party members, but everyone could use pretty much anything, the soundtrack, the characters; a lot of it was great. Ditto about the story tho, wasn’t paying attention ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
fhe first 5 minutes of FFIV on the NDS.
almost 50 hours into Bravely Default, but put it down because the storybeats were just too inconsistently delivered, the grinding, though greatly alleviated with some QoL features, was still a huge grind, and something about the game just... never clicked.
taking a glancing look at copy of FFX/X-2 HD and putting the thing down because I have commitment issues.
the first 15 minutes of FF Type-0 HD.
and whoa, before I forget, Steam says I have 13.2 hours in FF13. So there’s that. Great music though! Paradigm Shifting is cool in theory too, I guess. But this game is just awful. And now I want to go back and play it. Why do I do this?
All in all a very poor showing from me. FFXV was, comparatively speaking, way easier to dig in. “A Final Fantasy for fans and first-timers” they say. Well, I’m not sure if I fall into either of those camps. I guess I am a fan? Sorta? I couldn’t tell you about the lore, plot or characters of many of the games, but I do own one of these. And I used to listen non-stop to shitty low-bitrate .mp3s of Nobuo Uematsu’s soundtracks on my Walkman. And I had wallpapers of Rinoa and Yuna, and still own a really embarrassing FF8 wallscroll that was gifted to me?
So! As a casual fan then, I found this one... pretty good. I mean, there’s elements of every past Final Fantasy in its DNA. It feels like a Final Fantasy game, which is to say it feels like the ones which came after 12, which did the most to change up the ATB/turn based combat, and perhaps the composition/interaction of the characters, outside of maybe Tactics or 11.
There’s so much to like here that I’m willing to forgive its shortcomings and missed potential, even if, by the end, the things it gets right is in equal measure to the things it misses the mark on or flat out lacks. It has so much charm and warmth that I’m willing to forgive Square’s misguided reach for critical mass market appeal what with its numerous marketing tie-ins and cross-promotions, or its divvying up of exposition to tie-in films and DLC. At least it gave us that ridiculous Cup Noodle quest line. At least it gave us that. I’m even willing to forgive Chapter 13, and I didn’t even play Verse 2.
I’ve not followed the game at all, so its understandable the ones who clamoured for something like Versus XIII would be a bit irked. All those amazing tech demos and trailers they’ve released over the years? I understand the pain, but ya’ll only have yourself to blame for buying into the pre-release footage.
Yes, the Insomnia chapter was wholly underwhelming. Yes the pacing is weirdly rushed after you’ve hit Altissia onwards and becomes hyper linear. Yes Lestallum and Altissia are in general hilariously undercooked, non-interactive, tiny and I haven’t encountered something this disappointing since maybe hitting Markarth in Skyrim, where the magic of Skyrim’s first 50 hours really started to wear thin. We’ve truly hit a point where graphics tech has outpaced the ability and feasibility to render more organic, more reactive and believable AI simulation in towns and cities. Maybe all this increased fidelity strikes a dissonance with how we think worlds should be populated and behave? I don’t know. Witcher 3 looks incredible though, and perhaps that’s the game that shows you can have your cake and eat it too. Meaty, meaningful content that isn’t just throwaway Hunt quests, or helping some asshole with his car troubles for the umpteenth time. I’m of the opinion that all sidequests in RPGs devolve into kill or fetch quests, and the rare exception requires you to talk your way to success or solve some kind of puzzle and mechanically speaking there isn’t a whole lot you can do. So, that’s where good writing comes in. Fallout New Vegas, if I recall had fantastic writing in this regard. More recently NieR Automata had really rudimentary sidequests that were carried along with quirky written snippets that expanded upon the world. Then there’s the Witcher games and to a lesser extent the Yakuza series that construct entire stories around side content. Yes FFXV’s sidequests are... uniformly underwhelming. They’re all more or less MMO-like filler content for the sake of inflating the completion time and giving you some kind of incentive for exploring the world. And yes, Luna and Noct’s relationship is hilariously undercooked; she does her Aerith moment and it’s tits up from that point on. It’s a shame you can’t be with Iris though the game teases this; Aranea only shows up to do her thing and disappears; Cor straight up disappears; Gentiana does her thing and disappears, etc. People just disappear, for no apparent reason other than selling you DLC, or they didn’t know what to do with these characters because they are plot movers, nothing more. Sigh.
But you know what? It’s been awhile since I’ve played something like the first half of the game so yeah, sure, whatever. Throw on a podcast and go about overleveling past the main campaign. Go ahead and throw on that FF13 soundtrack and go pick up nutmeg (such a great soundtrack).
Speaking of which, I loved the music. I might even call it majestic. I loved oddball world design of mashing what seems to be not-Southwestern & not-Pacific Northwestern USA with not-Venice, briefly not-Rivendell (Tenebrae?) & not-Tokyo. I loved playing grab ass with my boys after camping out in the mornings. I loved Ignis being the mom friend and the my headcanon where the guys store all their cooking and crafting ingredients in the same astral plane where Noctis keeps his weapons. I loved the photography feature and Prompto’s arc. I fucking loved fishing more than I thought would. I loved that there’d always be some kind of incidental dialogue when you’d go exploring or take up a quest. I loved that Bahamut had a creepy human face. I loved how dangerous and crappy the Reglia Type-F is to handle. I loved that Gladio would give Noct shit, even undeservedly at times. I loved that Regis and his crew went on a similar journey all those years ago. I loved that there’d be super high level mobs just chilling in the overworld and that level scaling isn’t a thing, but there would still be things that could one-shot you. I can appreciate a game that helps me with completing its campaign, even if it does so kind of forcibly, since open worlds tend to induce some kind of completion anxiety in me. Will you please go and fucking fight Ardyn already?
About that fighting: I like it? I briefly tried Kingdom Hearts on 3DS and it was... It was not great. But I like the automation in this that allows for just enough player input where positioning and timing is more important than anything else. It’s not very strategic, and you don’t have much in the way of tactical forethought, but it looks cool! Props to Square’s animation team for blending all of it together into a somewhat coherent whole. It’s mostly flash, with just enough engagement to not be a entirely mindless affair.
I think at the end of the day we all have some kind of preconception of what we wanted FFXV to be, and we were all left somewhat disappointed that it didn’t turn out to be that figment of our fancy. But it exists, its more than playable, there’s a lot to do and soak in and those post-credits scenes with Noct and the lads, and Noct and Luna with the photo you chose were enough to wash away the cynicism and disappointment.
It feels like, with the completion of the Episode Ignis campaign and the successful rebirth of A Realm Reborn, Square might finally close the chapter on 13/Versus 13/15 and do things a bit better and more efficiently. Or maybe we’ll be subjected to a mobile hell and more games in 15′s mould, the latter of which wouldn’t be the worst thing? I keep saying it but I never follow through with going back to play the older mainline FF games. Now’s the time! Maybe.

FELIX PRICE + THE MIKAELSONS
i’ve  been  meaning  to  write  some  meta  about  this  for  a  while.   the  originals  is  arguably  one  of  my  favorite  fandoms  to  cross  over  with  because  felix  is  new  orleans  based  by  default  so  it’s  super  easy  to  picture  him  in  that  world.   before  i  delve  into  his  relationship  with  each  individual  mikaelson,  here  is  a  little  background  on  how  i  envision  the  verse  as  a  whole:
as  per  usual,  felix  comes  to  new  orleans  after  the  events  of  his  bio,  on  the  run  from  a  clan  of  hunters  after  murdering  their  leader’s  daughter.  this  time,  however,  felix  is  in  search  of  more  than  just  a  large  crowd  to  blend  into.   after  hearing  whisperings  of  another  hybrid  in  existence,  he  sets  out  to  find  the  famous  klaus  mikaelson,  only  to  discover  the  man  is  a  new  kind  of  monster  entirely  –––  part  original  vampire  &  part  werewolf,  with  the  power  &  connections  to  take  down  his  enemies  once  &  for  all.   he  finds  himself  immersed  in  the  world  of  vampire  politics  as  klaus’  right  hand  man,  doing  his  bidding  in  exchange  for  protection  &  a  sense  of  belonging.
continued  under  the  cut  because  this  shit  is  a  lot.
KLAUS  :   felix  idolizes  klaus.   truth  be  told,  there  is  a  part  of  felix  that  is  desperate  to  find  something  to  connect  with,  a  part  he’d  sooner  die  than  vocalize.   after  all,  he  came  to  new  orleans  because  the  possibility  of  someone  like  him  existing  out  there  plucked  at  his  heartstrings,  giving  him  hope  for  his  long,  lonely  life.   even  when  he  discovered  klaus  wasn’t  the  half-human,  half-vampire  being  he  initially  assumed  he  was,  this  didn’t  change  his  opinion.   in  fact,  finding  out  that  klaus  was  a  mikaelson  (  not  just  any  mikaelson,  the  original  hybrid  )  just  made  him  respect  the  man  more.   the  fact  that  someone  who  is,  for  all  intents  &  purposes,  an  outsider,  could  be  such  a  powerful  force  when  he  is  outnumbered  by  thousands  is  admirable  to  felix,  who  has  been  cast  aside  his  whole  life  by  both  of  his  species  &  envies  the  respect  the  vampires  give  klaus.   if  teased  or  called  out  about  his  devotion  to  the  hybrid,  felix  will  simply  roll  his  eyes  or  go  to  great  lengths  to  deny  it.   i  don’t  think  he  realizes  just  how  far  in  he  is  because  if  he  did  know,  he’d  surely  try  to  find  a  way  out.
on  the  other  side  of  the  same  coin,  klaus  is  well  aware  of  felix’s  quest  for  validation  &  uses  it  to  his  advantage.  whether  its  sending  him  on  errands  or  making  him  look  after  hope,  he  sees  the  dhampir  as  a  devoted  follower  to  do  his  bidding.   klaus  trusts  felix  about  as  much  as  he  trusts  anyone  outside  of  his  family,  which  is  not  a  lot.   that  said,  he  has  promised  felix  protection  from  the  hunters  which  i  guess  means  he’s  not  entirely  disposable  &  the  two  have  had  several  conversations  about  their  mutual  interest  in  art.   i  think  klaus  is  amused  by  felix  but  not  devout  in  the  slightest  –––  though  this  could  change  if  he  learned  more  about  him,  since  they  have  quite  a  bit  in  common.
in  this  particular  verse,  i'm  inclined  to  believe  that  felix’s  father  was  a  part  of  klaus’  sire  line,  making  felix  sired  (  at  least  in  part  )  to  klaus,  as  that  would  explain  his  undying  loyalty  to  the  original  hybrid.   lore  permitting,  davina  breaking  the  sire  line  in  season  three  wouldn’t  have  affected  felix  either,  seeing  as  he’s  only  sired  through  norman  &  was  born  a  dhampir,  not  created.
ELIJAH  :   felix  does  not  like  elijah  &  i’m  pretty  sure  the  feeling  is  mutual.   as  we  all  know,  elijah’s  driving  force  in  life  is  klaus’  redemption  &  he  sees  felix  as  yet  another  obstacle  in  the  way  of  the  man  he  wishes  his  brother  to  be.   in  addition,  elijah  finds  felix  to  be  very  immature   –––   not  that  felix  really  helps  his  cause  with  how  he  acts  in  return.   felix  likes  to  pick  elijah  apart,  criticizing  everything  from  his  suits  to  his  pretentious  attitude  to  his  hypocrisies,  making  no  secret  of  his  distaste  for  the  original  even  when  klaus  is  around.   the  two  bicker  like  school  children  but  that  hasn’t  stopped  felix  from  doing  elijah’s  bidding  from  time  to  time.   i  think  that  felix  is  very  much  aware  that  if  any  of  the  mikaelsons  wanted  him  gone,  he  would  be  gone,  so  as  much  as  he  pushes  his  luck  with  some  of  the  siblings,  he  does  his  very  best  to  prove  that  he  is  indispensable.
REBEKAH  :   felix  thinks  rebekah  is  hot   –––   i  mean,  obviously.   he  likes  it  when  she  comes  around  &  enjoys  dropping  flirtatious  comments  her  way  regardless  of  what  her  relationship  status  is  at  the  time.   that  said,  he’s  not  looking  to  date  rebekah.   he  knows  better  than  that,  having  heard  plenty  of  stories  of  what  happens  when  men  get  too  close  to  klaus’  beloved  sister.   rebekah,  on  the  other  hand,  finds  felix  amusing  but  pities  him  too  much  to  truly  see  him  as  an  equal.   over  the  course  of  her  long  life,  she’s  seen  many  klaus  fanboys  come  &  go  &  knows  its  only  a  matter  of  time  until  felix  becomes  collateral  damage  in  one  of  her  family’s  many  battles.   needless  to  say,  she’s  not  attached.
KOL  :   felix  has  an  interesting  relationship  with  kol.   the  two  have  a  mutual  understanding  for  one  another,  kol  as  an  outsider  in  such  a  closely  knit  family  &  felix  as  an  outsider  to  both  humans  &  vampires  alike.   they  get  along  best  on  a  one-on-one  basis   –––   aka,  when  klaus  isn’t  around.   kol  probably  finds  it  disgusting,  how  felix  follows  his  brother  around  like  a  dog  in  search  of  scraps.   he  doesn’t  see  klaus  as  worthy  of  admiration  when,  in  his  eyes,  he’s  done  nothing  to  deserve  it.   felix  definitely  feeds  more  when  kol  is  around.   he  usually  tries  to  avoid  drinking  blood  as  much  as  possible,  but  with  kol’s  insatiable  appetite,  felix  can’t  help  but  give  into  temptation.   kol  brings  out  his  worst  behavior,  but  i  think  of  all  the  mikaelsons,  he’s  the  one  felix  has  the  most  in  common  with.
FINN  :   felix  never  had  the  pleasure  of  meeting  finn  &  it’s  probably  for  the  best.   he’s  heard  enough  stories  about  the  deceased  original  to  know  that  they  wouldn’t  exactly  see  eye  to  eye.   felix  would  find  finn’s  stick-in-the-mud  attitude  to  be  annoying  &  finn  would  think  of  felix  as  an  equally  irritating  extension  of  klaus.   the  only  thing  i  could  see  them  connecting  on  is  their  distaste  for  immortality.   felix  does,  however,  feel  bad  for  finn’s  sires,  who  had  no  choice  in  the  matter  of  their  death.   according  to  felix,  death  is  the  one  thing  every  creature,  man  or  beast,  should  get  to  control.

Autumn Verse: the verse in which my OC Autumn is born. For Eileen, it starts in season 11 of SPN.
British Men of Letters Eileen went through the program to be a BMoL because her grandfather was one, which made her a legacy. She excelled in the program but when she got to the test requiring her to kill her classmate, she refused. She washed out of the program and Lady Toni Bevell took her place. Bevell is her rival and she may have had past relations with Ketch as the three of them were all in the program together.
Apocalypse world Eileen spent time in a human concentration camp run by angels after the apocalypse.
High school or College Eileen Eileen goes to school with Sam or Gabriel. If in college, she is majoring in anthropology.
Best RP characters: Sam or Gabriel or both.

Jo’s Verses
Main verse: Jo was resurrected almost as soon as she died in season 5. She was brought back by Zachariah in hopes of using her against Dean somehow, but he never got the chance so he left her stranded in Australia with amnesia. She was taken in by an elderly aboriginal man who retrained her as a hunter. Later on, she was bitten by a vampire and turned, but she has vowed to never take a human life. Options for canon seasons are seasons 8-14, with 14 being the default.

Devorah Vermuellen-Novak: Castiel and Hannah’s daughter and the oldest of the bunch. She’s got her father’s sassiness and her mother’s impulsive temper. She loves plants and animals and the natural world and she has an interest in cryptids, or theoretical animals. She is full angel. Face claim: Emily Rudd
Autumn Leahy-Winchester: Sam and Eileen’s daughter. Quiet, reserved, and studious, she loves history, music, and sewing. She is an anthropologist in her later verses and she helps out the family business by taking over the lore and mythology aspect of things. She is a werewolf/human hybrid. Face Claim: Annalise Basso
Jonah Harvelle-Winchester: Out of the three cousins, Jonah is the one who wants to be a hunter the most. He is trained in various styles of martial arts and weapons proficiency. He’s a lot like his father, he has an outgoing personality, and gets himself into trouble plenty of times. Faceclaim: Kenton Duty

HEADCANON.     the lore for weredog au.
FORM.     sam’s dog form is, obviously, a golden retriever. he’s a little on the smaller side when he’s first turned, because he’s only fifteen, but he’s full-grown by the time he’s nineteen   ---   i tend to default to ages 19-21 for this verse.
SHIFTING.     sam has a hard time controlling the shift when he’s first turned, but before long he can shift as and when he pleases. it aches, like stretching every muscle in his body, but ultimately isn’t too bad. when shifted, he’s fully in control and fully himself. he likes to sleep in his dog form because his brain is quieter   ---   he often shifts back to human in his sleep, though it doesn’t happen in reverse when he falls asleep in human form. this is because human is still his default/primary state.
ABILITIES.     1.   weredogs have enhanced speed and strength   ---   neither of them are necessarily superhuman, but they’re noticeably better than the human average. they’re also substantially faster in dog form than in human form.   2.   they can withstand many things that would likely kill a human being, and recover from injuries substantially faster   ---   it’s not instant, but think days instead of weeks.   3.   when in dog form, their brains are a lot quieter. a telepath would have a hard time reading their mind, though with practice they can intentionally make certain thoughts loud enough for them to hear.   4.   their bodies also ages slightly slower and they have a slightly longer natural lifespan, with the oldest recorded weredog coming in at 152.
WEAKNESSES.     weredogs are weak to silver. skin contact will burn and a silver bullet/knife to the heart or head is fatal   ---   silver to non-fatal places takes far longer to heal, and leaves them weak and fatigued during the recovery process. while they can withstand many things that would be fatal to humans, they’re also not to immune to fire, or like, y’know   ...   decapitation.
HUNGER.     weredogs crave red meat, and this leads some to feed on live animals or   ---   worse   ---   people. many hunters believe it to be a compulsion that they can’t resist, akin to vampires and blood, but the feral weredogs that go that far are the outliers. sam’s big heart and already restrictive dietary habits make the cravings a non-issue; he just has rare steak a little more often.
TURNING.     weredogs are either turned with a bite   ( given only while in dog form; the human form bite will do nothing )   or born to a weredog parent. sam was bitten when he was fifteen by a weredog looking to expand his pack   ---   though the weredog is murdered by a hunter before sam can learn the motive.

Final Fantasy XIII Review
I feel like since this is my first(tm) review I should do some explaining on how this will work. But at the same time everyone and their mom posts reviews for things nowadays so I'm sure you get the picture. Feel free to skip all this and go to the end where I sum it up in one sentence. Don't worry. I won't mind.
...Still there? Neat. Unfortunately for you, you've probably made the worse of the two choices.
As a disclaimer, this rant is purely my opinion and completely subjective. No one is paying me to do this. If you dislike what I'm saying, leave an ask and I will sip my iced tea and laugh about it as I read it dramatically to my friends and loved ones. Anyway, let's continue with me shitting on ranting about the FFXIII series in detail. Potential spoilers, but these games are hella old so if you spoil yourself you can just eat a pint of ice cream and cry about it.
I like to consider myself a Square Enix/Final Fantasy fan. I tend to follow their actions and look forward to their games. Some of my favorite games are made by Square (Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider (the reboots) and FFX to name a few). That said, there’s a good chance I’m pretty biased in their favor.
But some of their most recent games have been kinda shaky for me, particularly FFXIII and XV. I’ll save FFXV for another time though.
So FFXIII (or 13 for the casuals) stars your typical cast of generic and angsty characters who, in classic JRPG fashion, have to kill god(tm) with the power of friendship and morals. It's got your pretty generic plot where the entire world/government is conspiring against you and your ragtag group has gotta stab everything between point A and point B. Did that sound like a criticism? I mean as cliche as that all is at that point it's basically Square's bread and butter for FF games so I'm not really worried about all that.
I mean, this is typically the part of the review where you go over the plot of the games right? Well maybe I would if I actually knew what it was. That brings me to my first rant point:
Where's the Damn Story?
There's been a trend in games lately where the devs leave little footnotes and data entries littered about that give you background and fully explain the lore of the world you're in. A lot of the time, that's typically reserved for less important information, like the time sheets for the town's police force or the color of their president's undergarments. You know, things that might be nice to know for people who are really into it, but not necessary to understand what is going on. FFXIII also decided to use this method of storytelling...
While on your epic hallway adventure, FFXIII gives you data entries about background and things when relevant. I, for one, made the assumption that, like many other games, I could save those until later as it wasn't necessary for understanding what was going on right now. BOY WAS I WRONG. Throughout the majority of the game the characters go on and on as if you're already well versed in their world. L'cie? Fal'cie? I mean if you're gonna make up words at least define them for me extremely clearly within the plot and storytelling itself.
Literally everything I understand about the plot of the first XIII game came from reading a wiki after the fact. And that says a lot considering I barely understand it even now. It really shows a failure on XIII's part to actually write a plot in a way that would be clear to anyone who played. Throwing data entries at me as a requirement for understanding the plot is EXTREMELY LAZY in my opinion.
Then there's the characters. Honestly, I didn't like any of them. I mean, I liked Fang and Vanilla (that was intentional) mostly, but they still felt kind of underwhelming. The characters had a lot of potential too. I feel like Lightning had genuine motives behind her actions, but she was as expressive as a spiky haired potato. I mean, at least her design wasn't overly emphasizing her tits and ass. I'm going to pretend that Lightning Returns doesn't exist yet because don't get me fucking started.
Then you get Snow who's just like look at me I'm the dumbass who believes I can save everyone herp. And Hope isn't any better with his momma's boy ass whining all the time. I guess there are character arcs but they only really happen by the weird plot point of hey if you don't fucking grow a pair this giant robot is gonna bury your ass so I'm not sure how much that counts.
Hallways for Days
I had already alluded to this, but the game is extremely linear.
Let me put that in perspective. I love FFX. For those of you that have played X, it is also extremely linear. But despite this, the game opens up in different ways that allow for side tracking and bonus stuff. It's not a whole ton until you get to the end, but it's something I don't mind about the game because there's so much more to it.
Meanwhile, FFXIII is so damn narrow that you could throw a hot dog down one of the hallways and it would get caught between the walls. They have all these lush, beautiful environments that you can only admire from a distance as the hallways the force you in make a sharp left turn away from it all. And then to top it off all those locations are one and done. You cannot go back to a majority of the game environments after completing them. Unless, of course, you restart the game. But why on earth would anyone subject themselves to another 30 hours of hallways anyway?
By the time the game opens up for you to roam and stretch your legs, you're basically in the final chapter. It's a question of "Do I fight the final boss or just grind until I die?" The game opens up so far in and so suddenly that, and this is no joke, when my boyfriend was playing the game he had such a shock from his comfortable, narrow hallways he got too overwhelmed to continue the game. That's a bad way to get introduced to the series, considering that was his first ever FF game.
Press X to Shaun Combat
Now my biggest gripe with XIII is the combat system. I saw combat system, but it’s more like a frustration magnet. So much of it feels less like a tactical system you have to actually control and think about and more like… pressing X until you win or die.
For those of you less familiar with the combat, your team takes actions by filling a turn bar with various commands based on their combat roles (or paradigms). Once they perform all their allotted tasks they then wait for the bar to refill again before taking more actions. This also applies to all of the enemies in the game.
Now, you’re probably saying Well if everyone is taking turns simultaneously based on any number of different timings then the battles must be pretty chaotic and fast paced. Yes, random citizen of the internet, they can be. Or, you know, you can press the Auto Battle option which the action cursor defaults to every time your characters have turns and it usually does the most optimal thing for that character based on their current paradigm.
That means we don’t have to think about anything at all! Let the game do it for us! Amazing! Everything I wanted in a movie video game! FFXIII successfully managed to take a combat system that is normally designed to create situations where players have to think strategically and remove almost all the thinking.
Honestly, that’s not what caused me agonizing frustration while playing the game. What destroyed my will to live most was the various area of effect (AoE) abilities that the characters and, more importantly, the enemies have. The most control you have for your characters’ positions is based entirely on their roles/ abilities used. Nothing stops your characters’ AIs from simply standing next to each other in a big pile. They might as well hold up a big sign that says Hit us with all your AoEs at once! I swear, if I had a dollar for every time my healer character walked right next to my tank character, who was pulling all the enemy aggro and died because they got hit by all the AoE, I’d have enough money to ship a package to Square Enix Japan with a video clip of Hope running directly into an attack directed at another character and a card with a big Why? written inside.
Conclusion
Yeah, you can probably tell that I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone. I mean it’s pretty, the music is solid, and the internet believes that Lightning has great armpits. (As a gay man I have no comment on this.) But I just don’t think it’s very fun. Despite this, I did manage to finish the game and put a lot of time into some of the side quests. But in general, not a great game.
TL;DR
Battle is boring, plot is thrown at you unexplained, and it probably should have been a 48 hour movie. But hey, it’s pretty.
