Oh I love when advertising fucks with the website UI so that instead of clicking the website’s usual buttons, I can only click on their dumb fucking advertising gimmick. /SARCASM (aggro)

My Favorite Creepypastas
I love creepypastas. They’re the perfect combination of urban legend and campfire story. Good ones stay in your head for years after you’ve read them.
My favorite creepypastas straddle the border between fiction and nonfiction. It probably didn’t happen, or didn’t happen exactly like that––but what if it did? You could see how one of these stories could become an urban legend, something that your classmate’s older sister’s boyfriend saw happen to a guy in the next town.
The amateurish writing often adds to the effect––this wasn’t a story cooked up by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, or R.L. Stine. It’s so scary that one of the would-be victims had to write what happened.
Without further adieu, here are some of my favorite creepy stories from across the web. Some are long-ish, some are short, all are scary––at least to me. Hope they scare you, too.
Fran and Jock
A genuinely creepy story that will make you look differently at any talking bears, dolls, or other stuffed animals in your house. I’m not gonna lie, this story made me gasp out loud the first time I read it.
My mom’s father died when I was four. A few days after his funeral, I was given a white teddy bear with bright blue eyes that twinkled from beneath a plaid flat cap and a green sweater. When I gave it a squeeze, I heard my grandpa’s slightly muffled voice from its stomach.
“I love you, Sadie.”

Australian Skinwalker
Skinwalkers are mythological creatures that can take on many forms: dogs, wolves, even other people. Are they humans who transform through black magic, demons that possess their hapless victims, or some other creature entirely? Answers vary from legend to legend, but one thing is constant: you don’t want to get too close to them.
A few years ago, 4chan and 8chan’s /x/ (paranormal) boards were full of creepypastas about skinwalkers. The stories varied in quality; some went on too long, sounded like a cheesy slasher film with a skinwalker instead of a dude in a hockey mask. Others were more unsettling.
One of the best tells the story of two friend camping in the Australian outback. Halfway through their camping trip, something bad happens to one of them. It’s up to his friend to find out what happened––or save himself before it’s too late.

US Forest Service Search and Rescue
This long series features many bizarre or unsettling stories of people lost or injured in the woods. You learn a little about the job, and a lot about the worst case scenarios for hikers and explorers. Some of the stories are just sad. Others make you wonder what’s hiding in the forest.
If you read the whole series––not hard to do once you start––you’ll develop a healthy respect for the mysteriousness and vastness of the wilderness. You’ll also think twice before ever approaching a staircase out in the middle of the woods.
We warn people not to go anywhere near them but there’s always at least one idiot who does. And even if nothing happens to them, something bad always happens. Kids go missing as we’re on their trail. Someone dies the next day, cut in half in a completely safe part of the park. I don’t know why, but something bad always happens. I don’t know exactly why they’re out here, but it doesn’t matter. They’re here, and if we were smart, we’d tell our new officers exactly what they’re capable of.
This creepypasta is great at getting you to question how real the paranormal is. Unlike some of the entries on this list, which are pretty clearly

The abandoned house
Another “green text” creepypasta from 4chan about some teenagers exploring an abandoned house. Not the most terrifying creepypasta, but makes up for it with atmosphere and eerie details.
>big red two story house with a basement, no one can get into it >take a look around, see that there’s a back door that goes into the basement >nothing keeping it locked but some rusty old padlock and this thing attached to the door frame >unscrew that piece and i’m in

The Quiet Game
With a name like “The Quiet Game,” this can only be a horror story. Creepy kids aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I recommend this one for its atmosphere and feeling of steadily approaching terror.
I began to open my mouth, hoping to scream or cry; anything that might scare her away. Before I could make my decision, she pulled her boney finger up to her still smiling mouth.
“Shhh. Now it’s my turn to hide.”

Why You Can’t Talk to the Dead
A simple but effective horror story about life after death. If you like Stephen King’s Revival, you may dig this story as well.
Cassie helped me become the skeptic I am today. Showed me all the behind the scenes sleight of hand stuff. We’d watch daytime talk shows with magicians and mediums and Cassie would explain every step from a basic rundown of cold readings to how to spot an audience plant.
After one particularly convincing episode I asked the natural question. Couldn’t some of it be real? My aunt’s reply was firm.
“The dead don’t talk, kiddo. Anyone who claims otherwise is blowing smoke out of their ass.”
It was her conviction, more than anything, that made me believe her.

I Was a “Hot Single” in Your Area
If you haven’t installed AdBlocker yet, you’ve probably seen those ads for “hot singles in your area” or “bored college girls want to talk to you.” Of course they’re not really who they say they are; most often, you’ll be talking to a chatbot or a scammer of some kind; just give me your credit card information, she says, and I’ll do anything you want.
What goes on behind the scenes? According to the author of this piece, guys who pay actually talk to someone (not necessarily a hot girl, a girl in your area, or even a girl at all) who helps them fulfill their erotic fantasies via text. Things start to get weird, though, the longer she works at the job.
After a year in the job it became really rare to be actually surprised. There were mostly three kinds of customers: the big majority that wanted “normal” dirty talk, the lonely ones that were more in need of a friend or a therapist (they usually just wanted to talk about ordinary stuff) and the super kinky ones. I soon learned to deal with all of them.
However, one time an actually strange guy logged in. He didn’t seem to fit in any of the categories above. He didn’t really want to talk about sex, but he didn’t feel like one of the lonely guys either. It’s really hard to describe him, so I’m trying to memorize some of out first chats here. He called himself “the Fisherman”. He always wanted to talk to “Rhonda”.
This is one of my favorite creepypastas because it has so many elements that make the genre great: new technology, sex, and a vague but omnipresent feeling of danger.
