Ixtab the goddess of Suicide

The goddess Ixtab known in the pantheon of the Mayan gods as the supreme goddess of suicide, liked to induce people to die by their own hands, to take care of their soul after they have died, this divinity and also wife of the god of death . She knew the meaning of suicide and was considered by the Maya as an honorable way to die, the Goddess Ixtab liked to incite this practice among mortals. Ixtab was not distinguished by being a beautiful goddess, her appearance resembled that of a decomposing corpse, and most of the time her eyes were closed, and she loved to hang herself by the neck of the trees. When she got someone to commit suicide, she accompanied him and took him to the Underworld.

One day Ixtab found a couple of Young Mayans Itzel (Afternoon Light) and Ikal (Spirit), who looked very much in love. Itzel looked as beautiful as the goddess Xochiquétzal (Mayan goddess of beauty) and only had fifteen years of age. Envy caught her, because she could not bear to see beautiful women being very happy next to her beloved. Itzel was a happy girl, full of life and optimism, she liked everything and amazed her, rebozaba happiness. But Ixtab could not stand her and decided that she had to take her with her. That's how she created a plan for her destruction. She made use of her ability to become invisible, and at all times began to send messages to Itzel. She would sneak up to her ear and say: "Itzel, look how sad life is, everything is evil and injustice, men do not value the love you show! Or: - Have you seen how Ikal looks at the other women and forgets about you?" Other times Ixtab whispered: "Itzel, do not trust men, look at Ikal, your boyfriend, go around Yatziri Pech."

Before this continuous bombardment of dismal messages, Itzel began to be sad, distrustful of all, looked at Ikal with bad intentions, suffered when she was with Ikal, one day Itzel and Ikal quarreled due to the influence of Ixtab and when Ikal turned his back Itzel hit him with a rock causing his death, life was no longer happy. Two months passed, Itzel had lost weight, she was regretful and she began to hate life. This followed a period of time until one day she went to the ceiba tree that was behind her house and hung on it. Immediately Ixtab appeared, picked her up, took her hand, and while laughing loudly, she took her to her underworld to later turn her into her slave.

Alumnos de primaria se intoxican con marihuana en Chalco

Un grupo de alumnos de la primaria Belisario Domínguez se intoxicaron con presunta marihuana en Valle de Chalco.

Protección Civil y H. Cuerpo de Bomberos acudieron al lugar y al revisar a los estudiantes e iniciar las indagaciones, se encontró un artefacto para procesar mariguana.

Los menores involucrados ya han sido trasladados al hospital Dr. Fernando Quiroz y ya reciben atención médica.

Ante estos hechos, la policía municipal intervino para prestar ayuda a los directivos escolares, y puedan presentarse las denuncias correspondientes

El Presidente Municipal, Armando García Méndez, se mantiene atento al estado de salud de los estudiantes de primaria, y giró instrucciones para apoyar a las autoridades escolares y puedan presentar las denuncias correspondientes.

Streaming Services & COVID-19 Pandemic

As the pandemic started, people had constant access to the internet and many locations were shutting down their services, including movie theaters. This meant that a large number of people were stuck at home and looking for things to keep themselves occupied. A lot of these people, including myself, found themselves searching for new shows and/or movies to do just that.

We all know about the basic streaming service - Netflix. Before the pandemic affected the U.S., Netflix had a total of 167.09 million users by January 21st, 2020, according to businessofapps.com. Nearly a year later, by January 19th, 2021, they had a total of 203.66 million users. Through 2020, Netflix saw an increase in demand of 36.57 million users - a significant increase. This means that the demand curve for the Netflix service shifted to the right, as shown below, but the price remained constant.

While Netflix did see a surge in subscriptions, it was not the only streaming service with an increase in demand.

There is also Disney+, another major streaming service, that has also experienced a significant increase in demand for its services during the pandemic. The Disney+ platform was launched November of 2019. By February 4, 2020 they had approximately 26.5 million users. By January 2nd, 2021 they had a total of 94.9 million paid subscribers. Shown in the table below is a visual, by statista.com, of their growth throughout the year.

Disney+ and Netflix are only two of a multitude of streaming services that are available for purchase.

Even before the pandemic, I noticed that a lot of people around the same age as me would utilize streaming services much more than cable TV services. However, in this pandemic, it has become much more obvious that streaming services are becoming the preferred way to watch your favorite content, mainly because it is cheaper than a cable TV service.

One trend during this pandemic has been that as online streaming services’ subscriptions increased, the amount of people that were cutting off their cable subscriptions was also increasing. This only means one thing - that cable subscriptions and streaming service subscriptions are substitutes of each other. Since streaming services were increasing, the demand curve for streaming services moved to the right. However, since cable service subscriptions are decreasing, the demand curve for this market will shift to the left as shown below and will eventually drop its prices due to a decrease in the demand and amount they must supply.
