After finally breaking out of a years long anime slump, i've been able to complete several series, wiee! 🎉
Beside Ghibli movies, here's some series i've watched so far:
• Barakamon ✔️
I've been reading the manga during this summer and naturally fell into the anime afterwards, and found it just as relaxing and fun! Such a wholesome show, about a calligrapher who moves to the countryside after a severe burnout. At the countryside he get to experience new customs and culture, most of all - new friends! ♥️
• Kiss wa Hitomi ni Shite (The kiss on my eyelid?) ✔️
I felt like watching old timey anime, like 80's style, and picked this one by random. A girl one day wakes from a dream about a cute guy kissing her, only to see that very guy arrive as a new student in her class! And he.. remembers the kiss too!! 👀 Ooooh. I really liked it, cheesy and cute!
• Mahou no Tenshi Creamy Mami ❌
I've been eyeing this old anime for a while because of the pastel aesthetics, but ended up not liking the characters or plot very much so did not finish, but happy that i at least tried.
• Azuki-chan the Movie ✔️
It's so strange, i didn't like Creamy Mami despite all it's effort, but this random old short movie.. i really enjoyed! Cute slice of life, my favorite genre. The eyes reminds me of the Tintin comics? About three girls who gets invited to a classmate's skiing cabin for Valentine's, but they lie up some excuse not to go because planning to ask some boys out. But then they find out the classmate invited the boys too, so now they can't go back on their lies and drama ensue. Wish the series were available somewhere, would watch!
• Sweetness and Lightning ✔️
I think a friend recommended this to me?? I can't remember but i watched and was so surprised how heavy food orientated this show was! The plot follows a widowed dad who has to learn how to cook food for his daughter, and also face typical kindergarten kids drama! It was interesting, and felt realistic. He takes dinner lessons at one of his students restaurant and soon other friends join in 😩♥️ omg the father's friend Yagi is so my type, but he barely has any lines, haaah sad. Amazing series, highly recommend!
• Odd-Taxi ❌
Anthropomorphic world where a taxi driver get himself involved in some sort of missing person case, i'm not sure.. I only stayed til episode 4, then lost interest. I expected it to be like a taxi driver journal with new clients and adventures in every episode, but instead it's like a murder mystery? I think personal expectations and wishful thinking ruined the show for me, haha. Animation and VA were great tho!
• Handa-kun ✔️
After finishing Barakamon i watched this prequel about the young calligrapher in high school. He thinks everyone is out to get him but actually everyone looks up to him, the show rely heavily on misunderstandings! Maybe it wasn't so smart to go backwards in this franchise because i couldn't help compare it to Barakamon, making the jokes of Handa-kun a little forceful but still ok!
• Gokushufudou (The Way of The Househusband) ✔️
Been reading the manga lately, and the anime is direct translation of the comic so there were nothing new sadly but i LOVED the voice acting ♥️ fits perfectly!
• Enen no Shouboutai (Fire Force) ❌
Back in 2019 when Fire Force anime came out, i took one look at the characters and was certain i would love the series - bought merch! Finally finding time to read the manga, i realized.. i didn't like it. So ok, maybe the anime is better i thought. Then i watched it and.. didn't like it either. 😱 The goofy sexual humour isn't funny for me and the sad stories of the victims were cut so short there were never any empathetic build-up. The opening song is INCREDIBLE though, i've listened an embarrassing amount of it by now.
Born the daughter of two pro heroes, brought up in an abusive home from the hands of her mother; Azuki Shimizu starts her new journey of becoming a hero at UA High. However, an underlying force tries to pull her away from her dream. Would she have the strength to face her inner demon or let it consume her and fall into madness?
