#Wendy Toye
Quote
An inconspicuous British speciality, in intriguing counterpart to the stiff upper lip, is the film based on the exasperations of minor social conflicts and everyday routines. Locus classicus of a topic with universal appeal, but which the British work more boldly than anyone else, is the scene in Ralph Thomas's Upstairs and Downstairs (1959), where our cadet-type hero (Michael Craig) gets himself locked in a train lavatory. In Wendy Toye's Raising a Riot (1955) Kenneth More, and in Jay Lewis's The Baby and the Battleship (1956), such mere males as John Mills and Richard Attenborough grapple with all sorts of housewifely and mothercare tasks.

I don't normally review shorts, but I needed to talk about 1955's ON THE TWELFTH DAY, an absurd retelling of The 12 Days of Christmas masterfully crafted by a female filmmaker- despite being nominated for an Oscar, it's been forgotten by time. You can find this on YouTube! Read my review here.

Submitted for your approval are THREE CASES OF MURDER (1955, Toye, Eady, More O'Ferrall, Welles), an anthology film from Britain featuring Alan Badel and Orson Welles. Some segments are better than others, but all are restrained in that British sort of way... are they thrilling enough to be horror?
Context setting 00:00; First segment synopsis 32:04 and discussion 37:45; Second segment synopsis 45:33 and discussion 52:08; Third segment synopsis 1:03:13 and discussion 1:07:42; Ranking 1:14:47

“Three Cases of Murder is a British anthology film featuring three short stories, each by a different director. This first story is by far the best of the bunch, and plays out like a missing Twilight Zone episode, with its stark lighting, fantastical story, weird camera angles and sickening twist ending. Of particular interest is that this segment was directed by Wendy Toye, who was that most rarest of people: a female director in the 1950s British film industry. She had begun her career as a dancer and actress, before moving into theatre and then film direction. At that time there was only one other female director in the country, Muriel Box, showing just what a difficult industry it was for women to rise beyond the traditional production jobs on offer; script girl, wardrobe or makeup. The fact that “The Picture” is the best, most inventive part of Three Cases of Murder is testament to what a great talent she had, a talent that was greatly underused in British cinema.”

this probably makes me such a bad feminist but this whole paragraph is one of my favorite and funniest inside jokes between a friend of mine and me. we’re both cinephiles who do not recognize a SINGLE name of any of the female filmmakers on this list, and it’s incredible and inspirational and so ridiculous to me that ms. tilda just flexed in the most esoteric way she knew how for this nytimes feature when all the other women interviewed for this piece gave, like, normal responses askdlfjalkdsjfadfa.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kirsten: He looks nice!

lol okay
Or you know Wendy’s little brother in Peter Pan? Yeah He looks like that, just ready to fly out into the world, ready to spread his little wings, a little happy boy
In the second photo he’s more sad boy
Did something happen?! did he become sad boy?
My mom says he looks like a hobo
*laughs* He does look like a hobo
Okay, what do you think his name is?
What do I think his name is or what do I call him?
Those are like the same thing
No no no. They’re different.
*laughs* what do you call Speirs then?
Speirs? Daddy.
*SCREECHING*
*Laughing* AM I WRONG
*in between laughs* no
Anyways. I think his name is Sam....but deem him *laughs* Hobo Man
*laughs* His name is Don Malarkey
What??
This is Private Bullshit
That explains it! I gave him a ridiculous name because I sensed ridiculous energy *laughs* and the ridiculousness comes from “Malarkey”. What kind of name is Malarkey?!
It’s Irish
Irish??
He’s a red-head. I don’t know if you can tell
That’s where the ridiculous energy comes from from being a red-head? From being a red-head!
Oh, he’s also the guy I told you about with the insanely swole arms
*silence*....show me *laughs* show me the arms and I won’t find him as ridiculous, well maybe ridiculously SWOL but not ridiculous in energy
-
(after about 10 minutes of looking I couldn’t find pictures or gifs of Malarkey’s swole arms, so we moved on)
NEXT BOY
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Some of these guys will have crackhead energy, trust me
-
Okay, this is the next boy
Tumblr media
He looks like a man
*both laughing*
His face says “Bitch what??”
That’s basically him
I name him...Sass King
I love how you’ve gone from giving actual names, to just Titles? Yeah, but he’s one of the few guys without a nickname
SO what is he like
...I don’t know, he looks so ambiguouse, yah know? Is he a spy or something *laughs* He just looks...kind of....forgettable.
*extreamly deep and long gasp* how fUCKING DARE YOU
*laughs* I’m just saying, based on his looks and not his personality...I would not be able to pick him out of a room
...fuck you
*laughs*
Fuck you. This is Joe Fucking Toye
Joe? That’s probably why he’s so forgettable (she’s just trying to annoy me at this point) His name is JOE
There’s only two Joe’s in this show
Two? Is there another Ronald Speirs? I think not
*whispering* I’m going to stab you
*laughs*
*mimicking me* Joe. No, thErE’s OnLy TwO.
*2.5 seconds away from murdering her*
There’s only one Ronald

*laughs*
Joe Toye is an amazing and angry boy
Angry? I love them angry
Shut up, you’re annoying me
*laughs*
-
Part 3 y’all! We’re both so happy people seem to like these! Kirsten has also found love for another character besides Speirs (finally). Again, thank’s for the likes, comment, and reblogs, they mean a lot!

Three Cases of Murder (1955)
Today on the blog: Three Cases of Murder (1955)
Like multi-author short story collections, I often find anthology films pretty hit-or-miss. There are usually a few great segments — and more that range from weak to alright.
I had higher hopes for Three Cases of Murderfor a few reasons. First, it’s a genre in which I tend to at least somewhat-enjoy most of what I watch: the murder mystery. Add on a segment led by an Orson Welles performance and…

Three Cases of Murder ** (1955, Orson Welles, John Gregson, Elizabeth Sellars) – Classic Movie Review 10,047
The 1953 compendium crime drama movie Three Cases of Murder offers three creepy yarns, three directors (Wendy Toye, David Eady, George More O’Ferrall) and a fine cast, with main star Alan Badel in all three. Each story is good on its own, but, though the stories are introduced by Eamonn Andrews, there is no real link between the stories and they are unsatisfyingly cobbled together.

Cinéma: Les premières images du nouveau «Terminator»!
- Arnold Schwarzenegger in one of his best roles. Please enter five or nine digits for the postcode. There are 1 items available. Please enter a number iphone 11 bazooka phone case that is less than or equal to 1. Now that I have recognized this, I also understand why not a single sequel has been able to work since Judgment Day. The short story Second Variety by Philip K. Dick describes a world in which combat machines develop in a similar way, undesirable for humans and eventually become murderous androids. People watch films like McBain and think everything is just peng-peng. In 1947 she founded her own ensemble "Ballet Hoo de Wendy Toye" and at the same time embodied dancers in films such as Dance Pretty Lady 1931) and Invitation to the Waltz (1935).
Jane Fonda est devenue une expert du confort en prison!
Director Tim Miller, known for "Deadpool", underlines this with a straightforward direction, which despite the simple plot gives his characters the necessary depth not to let them degenerate into the side note in the bombastic action. After more than 25 years, Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger are finally back in front of the camera for a “Terminator” film. The distribution of the films is currently privately organized in Europe and in the rest of the world. Although its content is not yet known, the film has already sparked heated debates in the EU and in other parts of the world. The translation takes longer than usual. Wait or click here to open the translation in a new window. The soundtrack to the film was released in May 1994 under the title The Terminator (The Definite Edition) and was written by Brad Fiedel. In the fourth part of the series, the Terminator theme, which is very well known to soundtrack fans, was taken up again and orchestrated by the composer Danny Elfman, so that it sounds more epic. Sometimes it is also played as a guitar solo. Three songs sung by Tané McClure (You Can't Do That, Burnin 'in the Third Degree and Photoplay) are from the band Tahnee Cain & Tryanglz. If I wanted to be strict, I would blame the film for its predictability and the over-applied use of computer effects. The A-League of the film and television world will meet at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Meat eaters must be very brave this time.

'Quit') is a 1984 science fiction film by director and screenwriter James Cameron. Arnold Schwarzenegger embodies an android (termed Cyborg in the film), the Terminator, from the future, whose job is to Sarah Connor kill (to "terminate"). The unexpectedly very successful author film is the first of a series of six feature films and a television series. The Chinese film "Tiger & Dragon" became the non-English film with the highest grossing, and Indian films like "Monsoon Wedding" were worldwide box office hits. Please come back later. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. The terminator is referred to in the film by Reese as a cyborg.
