something i really love about the dusknoir plot twist is that even though he acts nice before the twist, it’s not in that “we are a kids movie and we are trying SO hard to give you red herrings to make you think he’s not the villain and someone else is” way. it’s in a way that develops his character further, makes him more interesting, and gives way for more analysis into those actions.

like in that crystal lake post, you could possibly argue that it’s the game trying too hard to make dusknoir look better. but when you think about that event, combined with all his other pre-twist actions and his character in special episode 5, it makes perfect sense. dusknoir is a villain for sure, but his villainy doesn’t come from a place of “im a ghost and i like darkness” or something like that, it comes from not wanting to be erased and deciding the apocalypse is better than that. so he’s not really pro-dead-planet or anything, he just wants to live.

so he sucks bc he’s still going “yeah treasure town residents can suffer for that”, but it’s not like he hates the past. throughout all his interactions in the past, it’s obvious that he enjoys his time there. like, he doesn’t need to befriend the shopkeepers or give kudos to pokemon from the guild, he’s famous! his image is already good! if he wanted to, he could just loudly go “hey guys there’s this asshole lizard go get ‘im!” right at the start and most people would go “oh yes famous celebrity i love you sign my face and i’ll get going!”

and it’s not like he’s just trying to hold hero and partner’s trust before he betrays them either, because he saves their lives before he learns who hero is! and the way he goes about it is extremely genuine!

like this isn’t the dialogue of someone going “ohhh this is a good chance for me to look good!” unless he’s a good actor. his dialogue here is genuine shock, recognition, and horror at what’s about to happen, and him jumping in to stop it. like i said, he is already famous and popular with the town, and hero and partner already love and respect him! it wouldn’t affect his image if they got hurt or worse, so going to save them to get brownie points would just be unnecessary and repetitive time that could go into capturing grovyle and hero.

basically, he doesn’t have to do anything here. he’s basically already won and if he hadn’t betrayed hero and partner in plain sight of the whole town, no one would’ve believed them when they said the truth! (i mean hell they saw everything in broad daylight and its implied they STILL thought dusknoir was a good dude and needed some extra convincing) so none of this is necessary... and yet, he does. he protects the partner both before and after he learns hero’s true identity, in ways that wouldn’t do much to hinder him if he hadn’t, because he genuinely cares. through this and his casual dialogue and crystal lake, you can see he genuinely enjoys the alive time of the past, and none of it feels forced or begging you to think he’s not the villain. it just... makes him feel more like a person. a person with emotions and feelings that isn’t just some lackey following orders or faking everything, but someone who’s enjoying a time and making the fullest of it before he has to go back to the apocalypse.

and this later enriches his redemption in special episode 5, when he decides to save grovyle and protect the passage, because he decides that time really is worth saving. and i genuinely think that had he not genuinely enjoyed the past, that this scene would have much, much less meaning to it.

Essence, Claire, and Aries belong to Kimmy-ko while Lucy and Allen belongs to me so enjoy. Chapter 5

“So this is Santalune Forest”.

The group were walking to Santalune City for their first gym battle but had to cross the forest first. “Yeah once we cross Santalune Forest we'll be at Santalune City easy”, Lucy said.

“Wow this place is awesome”! Aries grinned, looking around the forest gleefully.

“Such beauty of nature”!

The girls and their pokemon sweatdropped while Slash sighed. “He's a grass type trainer alright”, Lucy sighed.

“Oh the others should enjoy this”, Aries grinned, getting out two pokeballs.

“Come out Chestnut, Blade”!

Aries’s Chespie was sent out along with a Grovyle to Lucy’s and Claire’s surprise. “A Grovyle”, Claire gasped, getting out her pokedex.

Grovyle, the Wood Gecko pokemon and the evolved form of Treecko. Grovyle has powerful legs which allow it to move quickly and jump with great power

“This is my Grovyle, Blade I got him as my starter when he was a Treecko”, Aries grinned.

“Grov”, Blade nodded.

“Wait starter? You're from Hoenn”? Lucy said surprised.

“I thought you were from Sinnoh like Essence”, Claire said.

“Nah I'm from Hoenn and started my journey there I met Essence when I decided to go to Sinnoh”, Aries explained.

“And I've been stuck with him since”, Essence sighed.

“Oh you know you love me Essey”, Aries grinned.

“Yeah,yeah”, Essence said lightly.

Lucy and Claire blinked at the two before looking at one another and shrugged. “Guess that's how they always act”, Lucy remarked.

“Why not we let out all our pokemon for a small break”.

“That sounds good”, Claire nodded.

They all let out their pokemon as they sat and relaxed Essence noticed Aura sitting and laughing with a chimchar she guessed was Claire’s Blazer. “Those two get along”, she remarked with a hum.

“Oh yeah when the two first met they hit it off instantly”, Claire smiled, brushing Sophie’s fur.

“Also helps that Blazer has a huge crush on Aura”, Lucy smirked brushing Silk’s fur.

“Seriously”? Essence said surprised.

“Oh yeah and it's really obvious too everyone back home knows too”, Lucy said, Silk nodding in agreement.

Essence blinked then looked at the two again and noticed Blazer’s slightly flushed cheeks as Aura leaned on him with a smile. “Oh my god you're right”, she gaped.

“Told you”, Lucy hummed.

“But wait does Aura feel the same”? Essence asked.

“Mmm it's a little hard to tell”, Claire said thoughtfully.

“I say she does but she's in denial”, Lucy said.

“How so”? Essence asked.

“Getting all flustered, quickly saying it wasn't like that, stuff like that”, Lucy chuckled.

“Heh reminds me of someone else I know”, Essence smirked, glancing at Sparks who was sitting next to her.

Sparks looked at her with a scowl before having a thoughtful look before getting up and walked over to Aura and Blazer as they looked up noticing him. Oh hey Sparks, Aura spoke.

(Hello Sparks), Blazer said politely.

(Hi, hey Aura come with me for a sec? Wanna ask you something), Sparks said.

Hmm? Sure I don't mind. That ok with you Blazer? Aura asked.

(Not at all), Blazer nodded with a smile.

Aura smiled and nodded getting up and followed Sparks to a more secluded part of the forest. So what did you wanted to talk about? Aura asked.

(I overheard something from Lucy and Essence and I want to confirm it), he said

Confirm what? She asked confused.

He glanced at her and smirked making her twitch. “Something tells me Im not gonna like this”, she thought.

(You’re pretty close to Blazer aren’t you), he remarked lightly.

Huh? Well yeah I’ve known him for years now, so what? She asked suspiciously.

(Oh nothing just thinking you must really like Blazer), he smirked.

Aura blinked for a moment before flushing in realization getting flustered. I-I mean I like him as a friend! Not what you think or anything! She quickly said.

Beedrill suddenly flew up from the trees making them sweatdrop. That’s why, she said.

They quickly began running as the Beedrill chased after them.

“Oh man I didnt realize how late it got”! Lucy gasped, seeing the setting sun.

“Guess we’ll have to camp here for the night”.

“Ah sleeping in nature how I love it”, Aries said happily.

“I’ll start dinner”, Lucy sweatdropped.

Claire gave a weak chuckle as she and Nina started a small campfire when she noticed Essence looking around. “Is something wrong Essence”? She asked.

“I can't find Sparks anywhere”, Essence frowned.

“Hey now that you mention it I don't see Aura either”, Lucy frowned, looking up.

“Ah I wouldn’t worry I’m sure those two are fine”, Aries grinned.

Ah! Ok we lost them!

Aura and Sparks panted after managing to out run the horde of Beedrill. (Geez attack us out of nowhere, what’s their problem?!) Sparks growled.

We must’ve been near their nests and they got territorial when we got near, she panted.

This is the problem with Beedrill they’re hot headed and jump to conclusions way too quickly!

(That’s for sure), he grunted in agreement.

They looked around and he noticed that it was becoming night time. (It's getting dark we should get-!)

Sparks turned to face Aura and grew wide eyed in shock.

Lucy stirred the stew she was cooking a frown on her face as she did.

“You ok”?

Lucy looked up at Essence who had a worried look. “I’m fine just worried about Aura”, Lucy sighed.

“I wouldnt worry too much Sparks may seem rude but he’s a good pokemon he’ll have Aura’s back”, Essence assured.

“I bet he will but that’s not it”, Lucy frowned, confusing Essence.

“The thing is it's night now and Aura doesn’t do well in the dark”.

Sparks was shocked to see Aura shaking a frightened look on her face. (Hey Aura what’s wrong?) He questioned, placing a paw on her shoulder.

AHH! She shrieked, moving back.

(Hey calm down it's only me!) He said shocked.

S-Sparks? Right, right you’re here, she sighed shaking.

(What’s up with you? You’re shaking like a leaf), he frowned.

L-let's just say I don't do so well in the dark, freaks me out, she muttered.

“It freaks her out? Her? She doesn't seem like the type”, he thought surprised with a frown.

He then sighed using his tail, he grabbed her making her gasp. HEY! What the?! She began.

(Relax it's still me), he assured, placing her on his back.

She blinked surprised feeling herself placed on his back feeling his warm fur. (Just relax you can rest on my back and I’ll take us back to the others), he said gently.

She was surprised by the gentle tone before she began to relax letting herself be lulled to sleep he noticed this smiling in relief before walking off.

“That’s it I’m looking for them”.

They looked at Lucy who had finished cooking dinner. “They should’ve been back by now I’m going to get them”, Lucy said.

“I’ll come with you I’m worried about them both”, Essence frowned.

“Come on you two I’m sure they’re fine”, Aries began.

“They’re back”, Claire said softly.

They all looked up surprised to see Sparks walking over to them a sleeping Aura on his back. “There you are Sparks! You had us worried”, Essence said, as Sparks walked to her and Lucy.

“Lux”, Sparks said, looking at Aura.

He shook her with his muzzle making the Riolu groan and open her eyes. Mmm… Where? She began.

“Hey Aura, you ok”? Lucy asked with a gentle smile.

Aura blinked surprised looking around and remembered looking down at Sparks before quickly getting off him. Y-yeah Im fine, she said quickly.

Lucy chuckled at her partner patting Aura’s head. “You guys must be hungry I already laid out the pokemon food go eat with the others”, she said.

Aura nodded quickly going to sit and eat Sparks turned to follow. “Oh Sparks thank you for helping Aura”, Lucy spoke.

Sparks stopped for a moment giving a light shrug before going to eat Lucy and Essence smiled. “He can be rough but he’s a huge softie”, Essence grinned, making Lucy giggle.

Aura was silently eating as Sparks sat next to her and began eating she swallowed as she looked at him a little nervous. Hey um… Thanks for well… Back there, she said.

He looked at her and gave a light smirk. (Don't worry about it and though Blazer must really give you comfort from the dark), he remarked innocently.

She flushed and weakly scowled at him. You’re impossible sometimes, she said.

He chuckled playfully flicking his tail at her as she playfully swatted at it the two beginning to form an unbreakable friendship.

so im an intp personality type as well a sagittarius, and i think i fit those two descriptions pretty well. i do highly value logic and hard work.. i always work as hard as i can to be the best, and hopefully i can become a psychiatrist ! i do pretty well in stressful situations and i usually take the lead when things get tough. if i lived in the pokemon world id totally try and become the champ and travel around heaps, im pretty competitive. i really value friendship and connection 1/2

Bagon! I think Bagon would be perfect for you because…

(1) Bagon constantly dreams about sprouting wings and soaring through the sky-so much so that even its Pokedex entry states that it’s always hurting itself in attempts to fly. This desire and need to fly burns so deep in Bagon’s heart that it does not care about its own physical health and will literally throw itself off a cliff just to try and fly. When you give Bagon constructive criticism, it takes it to heart and keeps training and training and training until it has fixed its mistakes or until it has tired out. The sight of Bagon trying so hard to please you and make you proud can be quite heart wrenching as it will work until passes out. Sometimes you’ll wake up in the middle of the night to the sounds of it practicing its headbutt attack against trees or crying in frustration. Teaching Bagon balance and a little bit of self love will also do you some good as well. You two will learn how to depend on each other instead of trying to tackle tasks on your own. Once you’ve accomplished that bond, battles will be so intense because you two will be feeding off each others energy and be so in sync that your opponent will never be able to guess your next move. 

(2) If Bagon decides that evolution is something that it wants, you are going to have to learn patience and understanding. It is known and recorded that Salamance goes on rampages when it is angry and have destroyed towns before. It is essential that you teach Bagon the importance of learning from its mistakes and that every failure is not a failure but a lesson. Remember that Bagon is the first form of its evolution meaning that its young, impressionable and full of dangerous confidence. It learns from example, so you really have to apply the lessons you teach Bagon to your own life. This means going over what you two could’ve done better when you lose a battle instead of brooding over it silently, letting loose and not taking yourself too seriously, wearing your heart on your sleeve from time to time and asking for help when needed. Of course it’s going to be hard looking at the world with such hard lenses when you have a very goofy dragon as a partner! Bagon will act all tough and mighty only to hide in embarrassment when it is complimented, trip over its own foot when its trying to act cool when walking and takes on tasks that are too big only to rub its head against your leg as an indicator that it needs help. 

(3) To get rid of excess energy, I definitely recommend you two having a dodgeball fight against each other! It’ll give you guys a chance to indulge in your competitive side while having tons of fun. But after that exercise, it’s really important to sit down in a quiet space and just enjoy and appreciate each others presence. Communicating about your thoughts and feelings may be a bit foreign to you but it is quite important to do so in order to bond with Bagon. When Bagon makes a connection with someone, that connection is lifelong. This means that Bagon wants to be in your life and share every single experience with you. It wants to be there for you during your brightest days and your darkest hours. And although it may be young and not know why you are sad or angry, it always does its very best to make you smile. When Bagon sees that you’re working too hard, it will balance food on its head while walking over to you. When Bagon sees that you are having a nightmare, it will rub its snout against your cheek and stay up all night until it sees that your nightmare has subsided. This friendship is going to grow stronger and stronger every day and be full of such valuable lessons. You two will help each other mature, help each other open up and remind each other that you are not alone.

grovyle: 

First impression: i was 8 so im not sure but i think it was something along the lines of “mean green man >:(” bc yknow 8.

Impression now: that one picture of the samurai holding the cat except im the samurai and the cat is grovyle

Favorite moment: uuuuhhh its a tie between the talk he has with partner on sharpedo bluff and his “when i live, i want to shine” speech his talks are very good.

Idea for a story: just. i feel like this is a common thing but i want a whole thing about him just adjusting to the past and experiencing all this life and nature and not being totally used to it at first. like not entirely about him taking the times gears (thats in there though probably) but just him experiencing the sun. adjusting to mornings and nights. feeling water between his claws and swishing leaves around. feeling insecure in his newfound loneliness but feeling so free and alive. thats what im talking about.

Unpopular opinion: stop drawing him super tall and wise and smart hes canonically a small asshole and that side of him deserves to be recognized, i know dan green may lead you to believe otherwise but no hes small and a dick

Favorite relationship: honestly i cant decide between him and celebi, hero, or partner all of those are very good (my own hcs make his relationship with partner feel more significant though so)

Favorite headcanon: now his speeches are genuine. absolutely. but i think he uses a lot of big words without really knowing what they mean, or just incorrectly. (I E when he says partner is being “nonchalant” during the stockade scene when They Very Clearly Are Not) like he just tries to have a larger vocabulary but sometimes it just doesnt WORK and he’ll say something like “god celebi youre being so egregious right now” when shes like cutting oran berries or something and shes like “??? what the fuck do you mean???” and hes like “i mean you cut them so neatly” and shes like “do you? not know what egregious means?? are you just saying random words??” “idk it just sounds right”

ok i just realized that said favorite hc not random hc in which case its also that he views the hero as an older sibling!

Favorite moment: when she teleports the gang to the passage of time to save them from dialga, and then teleports herself out… also when she brags about how tough she is shes so cute

Idea for a story: i think like. her trying to travel to the past to live a happier life there, but feeling like she has a duty to help the pokemon of dusk forest so she stays there and uses her powers to help them and learning that this is what she wants her role to be and that she doesn’t want to run from the future, she wants to help others survive in it, which also leads to the plan with hero and grovyle or even how she meets them. like just a fic exploring that character arc.

Unpopular opinion: shes adorable not annoying or just grovyle’s love interest shes got her own thing going on, she didnt dislike hero or anything she was very close to them and loved them, she had a big role to play i dont like it when shes kinda downplayed to “grovyle’s love interest” in fanart or fics

Favorite relationship: celebi/grovyle definitely!

Favorite headcanon: she is very close to the renewed dialga of her time! like ofc theres discomfort here and there but they do eventually bond and now the god of time is totally in the future trio’s friend group. another favorite is that she met hero and grovyle by protecting them and giving them shelter! though i have a feeling that thats common.
