“I don't think I'll ever have kids, but if I did, I would probably name a girl Aliya Viktoria  [last name]. For one, the names are just pretty, and their gymnastics are my favorite to watch, like appreciating art.”

Actual Image of the Tumblr Gymternet watching Yourkayla win an Olympic Vault Medal
This shot is from FIG’s fluff footage from the Tokyo 2011 World Championships, which I watched on this channel. I doubt the FIG intended it to be funny, but I laughed at the gymnasts’ expressions so I wanted to share.
(tag yourself I’m king kohei)

hey manb. Sorry if this is weird but tumblr keeps recommending me your face tag posts (even the old ones??) and i keep mistaking you for alyson stoner. i keep thinking who am i following that's a camp rock fan blog before i realize its just you. You look great tho!
first of all idk why tumblr keeps doing that my apologies and second of all this is SO funny because I do actually get that a lot. her as a kid and me as a kid look eerily similar (we both had a childhood bangs era). it is an honour and a privilege ms stoner.

USA fans being like “well simone wasn’t performing like herself on that day either” when you point out how Russia won QF even with simone putting up 4 scores (and qualifying into every event final!) is so funny. Like oh are we just talking about a gymnast successfully doing everything they’re theoretically physically capable of in competition ? How convenient. By those standards say hello to my favorite would-be 3x olympic gold medalist viktoria komova

I want to put some context behind Helen Kevric's (probably unique) achievement of defending her EYOF AA. Here is a list of previous EYOF AA winners:
2019 Viktoria Listunova RUS
2011 Larisa Iordache ROU
2009 Viktoria Komova RUS
2005 Vanessa Ferrari ITA
2001 Alina Kozich UKR
Kevric's winning score in the AA of 53.900 is not only more than 2 full points higher than the 51.765 that won this year's Jr. World Championships (Kevric was injured and unable to fully compete), but the two meets seem to have been judged relatively comparably. But here is something I want to explain particularly to gym fans that primarily focus on the United States or Russian teams. That 53.900 is a bigger score than you may think.
Last year at the 2022 US Championships Madray Johnson won the junior championship with a 53.550 on the higher of her two days. USAG does not recognize a cap on E skills for juniors which is part of FIG's attempts to limit stresses on young bodies. Helen Kevric, from all places Germany, a place and team who many fans were mocking the other week when a Republican man baby bizarrely invoked them to attack Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas, would have handily beaten the entire US junior field without any domestic bonuses and without doing a single skill rated above E.
I want Kevric to get to go to Paris because I want more than the small niche of the gymternet to fall in love with her gymnastics. I don't expect her to medal in Paris if she's there... but provided she stays healthy this is a gymnast who will be a factor through the next quad.
And if there is a single gymnastics federation that I believe knows how to guide a gymnast to a long career it's the Deutscher Turner-Bund. And I might add everything about Kevric's junior career suggests an awareness of protecting her and keeping her healthy over immediate medals. Kevric has sat out club league meets when she had upcoming elite meets... unlike say Italy who had their injured stars compete full difficulty at club meets even when they needed surgery. Kevric also routinely will withdraw from EF so that she is not over competing. I don't know what is going on in her gym but at least from the outside it looks like the right things are being done so that we will see this young lady as a medal threat for a long time to come.

Wait, did the reference judges in london actually have vika in 1st?!? I never knew this!Which event made the difference?
yes 🥲🥲🥲 sorry i missed this ask, it must be weeks ago when this came up
"Based on the reference judges' scores (which were essentially unused; the jury scores were mostly carried through for the top two except once on beam for the Russian), Komova was underscored on floor & beam by about 0.1 or more (E-score discrepancy on other 2 apparatuses was much smaller).
Conversely, Douglas was overscored by the jury judges on floor, bars and beam by about 0.15 each or more (they did, however think her vault was worth some 0.033 more).
If the reference judges (the supposedly more qualified ones, in terms of E-score judging at least) had their way, Komova would have won the Olympic all-around title with 62.1 over Douglas' 61.75.
But what in fact happened in London this summer was this: Douglas was awarded 62.232 points by the regular judges — almost 0.5 more than what the references judges thought she'd deserved, a considerable difference in a sport where victories go down to thousandths of a point — and walked away with the gold. Komova had to settle for 61.973 and the silver."
the link for the results book in the article is broken but here is the pdf:
