Color of Night (1994) dir. Richard Rush
Now I finally get it--you are like my ex-husband. You think that everything’s gotta be either black or white cause you’ve gone colorblind! But God’s on my side.

DS9 Novel #15: Objective: Bajor
Tumblr media
DS9 #15: Objective: Bajor by John Peel Book Jacket’s Summary:      “The Hive came from another galaxy: billions of alien beings living inside a vast, biological starship. They have already destroyed one planet, converting it into raw material and fuel for their endless voyage through the cosmos. Now the Hive is heading for Bajor and they have given the planet's inhabitants an ominous warning: evacuate in three days or die along with their world.      The Bajorans would rather die than abandon their sacred home, but their hastily assembled military fleet does not stand a chance against the awesome power of the Hive. Unless Captain Sisko can penetrate the Hive's defenses – and discover their most closely guarded secret – all of Bajor faces extinction.” Yeaka’s Notes:     This is a tricky one. While the writing and plot are both fairly simple, there’s both good and bad to take from it. It features most of the main DS9 cast, even Quark, and has them all in character, though only Sisko and Kira are regulars—Bashir’s barely there, and Dax has very little to do. Odo tags along. Shakaar, Dukat, and Yarka get cameos, with Winn and Jaro poking their heads in for a sideplot that goes absolutely nowhere. There are both Bajoran and Cardassian POV chapters, but mostly, there’re a lot of new aliens—an armadillo-like agoraphobic species that’s come to “peacefully” wreak havoc on Bajor and Cardassia. Several of those original characters are quite likable.    Unfortunately, it all starts with mass murder. The beginning is incredibly unpleasant and violent on a huge scale. After that, it tones down a bit, and gets back to actual thinking and talking, and there’s a mild mystery and some compelling character relationships that make for a solid read.     Then things blow up again, and the ending, despite the workings up to it being rather more involved, is incredibly abrupt. Most of the cast has little to nothing to do with the ‘conclusion’ to their problems. Then it’s just over.     For a solid chunk in the middle there, it was fun while it lasted.
Noteworthy moments: (below cut)
Ch1 The crew on the Defiant hunting raiders
Ch3 Cardassian POV on a mapping vessel with a "loser" captain
Ch5 Sisko orders O'Brien to go off duty after Bashir notes he's worked 4 shifts in a row and has too much coffee
Ch6 Gul Dukat directing captains from Cardassia Prime to leave a Cardassian problem alone until it inevitably becomes the Bajoran's problem
Ch7 Bajoran colonists' POV facing an enormous alien threat; Shakaar calls Sisko, Kira's pleased to see his "handsome face"
Ch11 Sisko coms Admiral Noguchi, who says the Enterprise can't help but the Farragut and Pike will when they can
Ch12 Dukat visiting the gul-tar where he manipulates the situation into a position of power over Cardassian rebels; Sisko talks with Shakaar who's being pressured by Kai Winn, Sisko's impressed with how Shakaar handles it and they both have respect for each other based on Kira's opinions
Ch14 Kai Winn and Jaro break into Shakaar's office to quote prophecy and try to control the situation
Ch15 Sisko, Dax, and Odo tour an alien civilization
Ch19 Quark tells Rom to fetch his hidden stash of weapons so he can sell them to Bajorans, but Sisko's left orders that he's not allowed to leave; the aliens ask what a "Morn" is and Sisko can't answer
Ch20 When Kira expresses grief over the loss of an entire Bajoran colony planet, Sisko compares it to losing his wife (she says it's not the same but he insists the principle is); Vedek Yarka comes to talk with Sisko; Dukat plots against his own boss with Cardassian rebels in the hopes of retaining his leadership once the military's fallen
Ch25 Kira and Shakaar talk privately about whether or not all their struggles were worth it
