I grew up during a time where sports were everywhere.

Rocket Power was by far my favorite show growing up and to this day I remember watching every episode and every time I would grab my skates, my bike or my skateboard and go out with a few friends and just be kids around our neighborhood. What transcended into a little obsession with cartoons and sports ended up being the cause of my love for them and gradually gaining the courage to enter tournaments.

I joined the Tennis club, the basketball club (my mom thought I'd grow. Spoiler alert - I didn't.) and at some point did.... Bowling? Still can't believe I managed to win that tournament.... Anyway. Sports played a big part for me but once you go to high school a lot changes. Why am I sharing all this? Well...

Because nothing really gave me the drive to continue with sports until I stumbled upon Sk8 The Infinity. In fact there are a lot of things I have to thank it for but for now I'll focus on the one. The only thing that I really stuck to in high school was Skateboarding. It was my mode of transportation during summer school and it was fun to do when I gathered with friends who did skate in my school. I have a lot of great memories but nothing really captures the actual struggle of Skateboarding like this anime does.

This anime is the best example of how difficult picking up any sport can be but in particular how painful it is. I literally screamed when Reki was teaching Langa how to ollie. I was thoroughly reminded of my first time and how scary yet rewarding it was and man did they capture that well. Not to mention that, for any 90's baby out there, the ending literally reminds of Scarred from MTV. Naturally, I grew up with Tony Hawk, Bam Margera and Chris Cole but I have ALWAYS admired one man above all that and that's Rodney Mullen.

While the Z-Boys catapulted skateboarding into what it is today; half pipes and courses became a staple in Skateboarding but Rodney Mullen was that skater who was well rounded in creating unique lines, tricks and techniques all without needing much. The godfather of skating himself. I was thoroughly surprised, more than I can imagine seeing those exact moves in Sk8 in the latest episode.

Needless to say, this show really has 10 year old me extremely excited. Correct me if I'm wrong, this is the first time we have a Skateboarding anime and whoever is behind this team truly know their stuff. Though where I live extreme sports like Skateboarding, BMX and aggressive inline skating are no longer seen around much, if this reached a wider audience I think I can see a comeback for sure.

It's just a true gem that brings back so much nostalgia and wonder. Ugh I really hope this kicks off 😫

SK8 Episode 7 Thoughts

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHBHBBHHHBHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! That's how I'm going to start things!! My heart!!! I knew it was coming but it just hurt so much!!! I need all those people taking shit about Reki to square up!!!! I'll fight all of them for my boy!!!

So Reki's insecurities finally overflowed and caused him to push away Langa. It was so hard seeing his enthusiasm slowly being sucked away from him because of those around him and himself. It's so hard to get out of your head once your inner critic gets to going. Ugh it's just so hard to see someone who started as this bright boy with a love for skateboarding get that sucked away from him.

What made it hurt more was the contrast between him and Langa. Langa was excited about the possibility of going against Adam again because he wanted to feel the rush he got when he first skated againist Adam. While Reki does not understand how Langa can feel excitement over skating with Adam when he put his life in danger. Reki is now fearful of something he once loved.

This episode also showed us how Langa pushes himself to extremes, which is concerning. Because we saw that at S he was going way to fast to be safe and he wouldn't have stopped if it weren't for Joe riding up next to him and snapping him out of it. I am concerned for Langa going up against Adam again because I feel like he'll push himself too far. Ugh!! Don't hurt yourself Langa!!! And about him breaking his promise to Reki...we all saw that coming. Fucking sucks but we knew he wasn't going to keep that promise. From the looks of things, he knows that he hurt Reki but we'll have to see how they patch things up.

Am I mad at Langa??? NO because why would I be?? He's 17! He's doing what 17 year olds do so I'm not going to go on some dumb Anti-Langa crusade because it makes no sense.

Now we must wait until next week to see what other pain they'll bring us!

Spoilers ahead Sk8 episode 12 thoughts

Man last episode was a ride!

Lol the first scene with Adam barging into the tailors shop was so dramatic. Poor sewer guy ahahaha imaging random crazy person coming in your shop like that.

Ayo let's use that old more dangerous route ofc.

The race was very good I think on skills perspective Adam and Langa made a very compatible opponents.

Hello our old friend da zone

Does skater folks get into zone in real life too? It's very scary.

I got so worried about Langa not seeing anything other than skate. That stuff is dangerous.

Luckly Reki wrote 'fun' on his skateboard and Langa came to his senses with that. That was so sweet.

I'm very impressed how Langa is always so indifferent to Adam's all dramatic creepy displays. Despite of all the creepy sh*t Adam said and done Langa could still took Adam's hand and said let's skate man it's fun this way. It was so pure.

Tbh the whole thing was a bit cheesy. Langa basically did the power of having fun and love of friendship and skating to Adam and it worked ofc.

I loved how when they crossed the finishing line and Langa saw Reki there went like yay it's Reki and jumped to him for hugs lol

Skating family group hug? YES

Adam could have been a better person sigh. That's why child care is very important.

I wasn't okay with how Adam never apologized to Tadashi. At least he acknowledged their past.

Sadly Adam x Jail didn't happen but at least we didn't get the palm trees at the ending.

Seriously Adam avoided Jail plot like a pro. I'm glad he didn't made Tadashi his scapegoat. I'm so mad how Tadashi is so used to his position that he wasn't even mad about Adam's intentions or behaviors.

I know They're not equally friends because of their positions still Ainosuke is such a prick at least apologize man!

Ainosuke is saying all that sh*t to Tadashi like You're gonna be my dog at my side forever. And Tadashi is like so happy and blushing? I mean No! man! Don't be so happy for that easily ugh whatever.

I'm ecstatic with ending montage. Adam jumping off from the goddang helicopter and landed on the party for Langa. And Langa is still going for that last bite before the crash lol

Reki teaching his imoutos skating? Heck yeah!

My poor poor baby shadow tho I hope you'll get a better girl.

Joe and Cherry are good old same. I like their bickering

Miya is OK with his old friend yay

Oh and that scene

The last scene with Langa going exact parallels with first scene with Reki's was the greatest.

Langa now knows his happiness is skating with the people he likes. Like with his father and now Reki and others and maybe a tad bit weirdly enough with Adam too ugh ew

But he likes skating with Reki the most :3

I love Reki and Langa's friendship so much. They were always genuine and goofy and openly affectionate. For the last time in forever lead MC boys had a normal friendship instead of "I'm your enemy/rival but.." tsundere bs or the one sided codependent childhood friends bs.

I always considered Reki and Langa two big dogs being friends. People never stop getting queerbaited.

And they started off their own beef into the sunrise how poetic lol
