RIP Toriyama (and account related updates)

I'm just logging in to make this ooc post. I haven't been using this account for anything in a while cause I've been reading/watching other manga/anime and truth be told, I completely lost interest in RPing and the Supreme Kais just don't interest me anymore. If anything, the ordinary kais are the only interesting ones to me now.

Anyways, after reading about the cause of Toriyama's passing, it really puts back into perspective on how unpredictable things can be as one reaches old age. I also read that the condition is usually caused by head injuries. It's devastating that he passed away. I really enjoyed the OG dragon ball he wrote before I was even born. There were definitely some writing decisions he did that were way better than some of the animated material (ex future Gohan losing against 17 1-1 vs getting beaten down by both 17 and 18 in the animated version) and I like when he gets involved in drawing characters that only debuted in animated material.

I don't know exactly when I'll have enough interest in DB to make use of this account again. But, I'm going to give a nice slow read with the 42 manga volume collection I have, and well, best of luck for Toyataro to continue writing DBS on his own now.

If I'm ever motivated to use this account again, think I'll be turning this account into more of headcanons fun if I haven't already. And, if any of it sounds interesting to add into RP accounts or anything, feel free to add it. They're just ideas at the end of the day so don't feel the need to take them too literally/seriously.

What do you actually like about Toyataro's AF?

The art was actually pretty good, seeing SSJ4 Gohan and Vegeta was cool, I liked the continuation of Goku in the Dragon Realm after fusing with the Dragon Balls, the writing and characterization actually felt better than Toyo’s DBS, Xicor is a cool design, and the plot overall just felt like a better Goku Black saga to me

What I love of Toyataro is his modesty and the fact that he considers himself a Dragon Ball fan already, even after becoming an author 😊

Ok, another unpopular opinion (maybe....I have no idea)...

Something that really bothers me about Super...

So, in DBZ, over the course of the show, Vegeta slowly but surely loses more and more of his "Saiyan" armor.

On Namek, his shoulder pads disappear. During Cell, he switches to Bulma's model. In the Majin Buu saga, he pretty much only wears a body suit. And then finally, at the end of Z, he's completely dressed in human attire, even when going to fight. (Further in GT, if you want to count that since it was at least designed by Toriyama.)

Now, I've seen someone mention this before and how annoyed they were with it, but I personally always saw it as symbolic.

Whether the Saiyans originated it or not, the fact of the matter remains that those uniforms became a central part of Frieza's Army and could almost be seen as propaganda by the time Frieza even takes control of the Cold Force.

I always saw the steady decline of that motif as a visual representation of Vegeta's character arc. The slow removal of it represented the slow burn of Vegeta letting go of his past and embracing his new life and this planet as his home.

But like so many things and characters, Super seems to throw this all out of the window in favor of the familiar. I get that's it's done mainly for nostalgia, but it honestly, like so many other things in Super, feels like character regression. And not just Vegeta, Goku, Trunks, Goten, Krillin, everyone seems to either be regressing or frozen in time.

This was fine in the "Yo!" Jump special which was purely about nostalgia, but for an entirely new series, it would've been nice to see something new.

We briefly got some semblance of it, with Bulma's redesign of Vegeta's battle suit (which still has the Frieza Force motif, but was different enough that it was acceptable) and Goku's blue tracksuit (which kind of hints towards his final blue look at the end of Z). But then ToP comes around and Super just wipes it's ass with it and the characters reverting everything back to the status quo.

A lot of people probably don't think twice about things like this, but again, I always viewed as such an important part of Vegeta's character, so to see it brushed aside is kinda disheartening. :/

- piccolo jr. because he’s the most ridiculous (affectionate) character in dragon ball. he’s satan. he’s the antichrist. he’s a green slug boy. he entered a tournament just so he could kill his rival in the finals. he technically never breaks the rules once in the tournament. he’s three years old and 6’1. he’s the “most evil man in existence” and completely unhesitatingly sacrificed his own life for a child he barely knew knowing full well it couldn’t be undone.

bro every time i see dragon ball takes of toriyama being lazy with the dbs power designs, a part of me is just CACKLING like this man has obviously been trying to kill/end goku since forever, and we can all agree that goku’s character development is deteriorating as time goes on bc?? what ELSE can u do at this point. nonetheless, he literally chose toyataro to be his successor, a man who became a manga artist simply bc he could not stop writing dragon ball one shots. toriyama is so far into his career that he can coast on making character designs, and he still has a team to help him out. the man has literally stated that he can’t do the same thing for a long time & he obviously did not expect to be drawing for the dragon ball and dragon quest for literal decades simply because of the fan response alone. like no shit, he doesn’t care to make extravagant designs for power levels that have no purpose LOL he’s just giving the ppl what they want

V: 3 OTP's from 3 different fandoms.

#1. Meryl/Vash from Trigun:

One of my oldest anime pairings. Also one of the only pairings I've ever published fanfic for. I love how they have a feisty, teasing relationship that's also built on mutual trust. It's that kind of dynamic that I saw in fanon for Nejiten that made me start shipping it as well. Also they just. Have great opposing color schemes and builds.

#2. Kale/Caulifla from Dragonball Super

Toriyama and Toyataro, like Kishimoto, have never been great at writing romanced and YET. I was surprised and delighted enough when the new series came out to get two female saiyans. AND they're super cute? AND they're totally like, canonically in love with each other?? I was on cloud 9. I love these kickass gals and they're incredibly adorable in the way they inspire one another and are both willing to die protecting the other.

#3. Usopp/Kaya from One Piece

Despite loving One Piece I don't ship very much in it bc the found family dynamic is just too good on its own. But these two kids we meet at the beginning of the Syrup Village arc are just too cute. I love how he was inspired to help her out of her depression bc he had been in that place himself, and I love how she's turned around and become a doctor to help people for the same reasons. In over like 800 chapters without seeing her, Usopp hasn't forgotten that she's waiting for him to come home and I just think that's toothachingly sweet.

Aaand that's it! I just now realized these are all pairings that, for various reasons, don't have a lot of fandom content but oh well. That's certainly not a requirement for me to like a ship it just happens for some reason lol. Thanks so much for the ask!!

Headcanons Ft. Chronoa

Do you have any headcanons for Chronoa?

With Chronoa, it’s hard to gauge since there’s mix of games and manga arcs (which isn’t from either Toriyama or Toyataro) to go through. While I will do my best to incorporate those arcs...they mostly showcased how...vulnerable she can be to things despite holding a prestige status. I am not personally upset by this. Just more or less confused how to tie this with Super/Z in rp portrayal, considering imho it would only further the narrative of “oh kais are weak bunch” and bits like her having been brainwashed before isn’t exactly helping her case.

I suppose one main headcanon I have is that she is very closed off from other kais since as per her bio, she started off as an ordinary kai. It is possible she could be seen as “out of touch” regarding the whole “red or gold” apple differences that she likely wasn’t paying too much attention too over the years, or felt such minor things weren’t important enough to dwell over in-between her duties and...likely avoiding tasks that she would likely find a way to have someone else do them, if that last bit holds true from her wiki bio.
