The Enterprise Capacity HDD 512 native, 7,200 rpm SATA models (MG04ACA-N) come in a robust design providing 2 and 4TB in a 3.5-inch form factor. Features of MG04ACA-N series include a SATA 6Gbit/s interface, and industry-standard 512 native format sector technology for environments and applications that require 512 native. Model options supporting Sanitize Instant Erase (SIE) are also available. This feature randomizes data instantly in case of unintended disclosure in the event that drives are re-purposed or moved outside of data center environments.

Formatting toshiba external hard drive for xbox 360
Tumblr media
#Formatting toshiba external hard drive for xbox 360 update#
#Formatting toshiba external hard drive for xbox 360 download#
The 360 is only compatible with drives up to 2tb so that's why I had problems with that one. The western digital I also linked might work okay because I was an idiot and bought a 3tb drive. Stay away from that seagate desktop drive, the link is in my OP. Most people suggest using a desktop drive for the 360 so the 360 isn't being for power but I had no choice after troubleshooting it for 2-3 weeks. I ended up giving up on that stupid drive and buying a Western Digital 2tb usb powered, portable, external hard drive.įor some reason, my 360 just will not work with the desktop external drives that plug into the wall for power but it will with the drives that get their power from USB ports on the 360. I can confirm it works, just not with the seagate I originally bought.
#Formatting toshiba external hard drive for xbox 360 update#
The only thing I can think might be an issue is the allocation unit size when formatting but I've just used defaults so I don't think that's it.ĭoes anyone have any idea why these Seagate & WD 2tb EHD's won't work for me or what I can do to get them to work? Am I doing something wrong? This is driving me mad!!! Thanks for any help you can offer me and I posted this out of desperation because i can find no answer to this anywhere.Ī few months back there was an update to the 360 to allow for up to a 2tb external hard drive. The "tech support" has been a joke and all of them are clueless. The 360 console will not format the drives regardless of what file system they have when I plug them in. I've tried the 2tb drives on 2 different Xbox 360's and made sure they're formatted to FAT32 file system using GUIformat.exe program. I tried a 500gb (which is too small) WD portable/usb powered HD and it worked (games would store and launch properly from that drive). I bought this one ( ) brand new and it did the exact same thing as the Seagate.īoth of these EHD's are desktop/outlet powered. Other games launch and work fine from the EHD but most do not, giving me the "can't perform action" error.Īfter spending hours scouring the internets for a solution and on the phone with Seagate & Xbox and getting nothing useful from them, I decided to try a Western Digital HD. The game file, save files, DLC, & compatibility packs for COD: AW can all be on the EHD but if that title update file isn't on the internal drive then the game won't launch. However with COD: AW, it will launch the game only if the game's title update file is on the internal HD only. Bionic Commando Rearmed won't work and neither will COD: AW for example.
#Formatting toshiba external hard drive for xbox 360 download#
I can move or download games & DLC to it but most games will not launch just saying "can't perform that action". I have tried everything I can think of to get it to work (full formatting, different USB ports/cables, tech support, etc) but it just won't cooperate & work. That drive filled up quick so I upgraded and moved it to my 360 when the update for EHD support rolled out. I originally bought this 2tb Seagate expansion EHD ( Need help from Microsoft? Got a "new" laptop: Toshiba T4900CT!
Presumably this is the highest end machine they made in this color scheme before moving onto the gray plastic computers, like what @aperture-in-the-multiverse has. This machine is technically not a Satellite, but it's Satellite-adjacent.
Pentium I at 75MHz 40MB of RAM 8GB CF card for a hard drive VLB video chipset driving an SVGA 640x480, 64K color 10.4" active matrix TFT-LCD Analog Devices AD1848KP & Yamaha OPL3 audio Windows 95B (originally shipped with 3.11)
And a broken floppy drive!
Seriously, you have to disassemble the entire computer to get at the floppy drive itself, and I'm pretty sure the belt is busted. So far I've worked around it, but it's getting to be annoying. The good news is that the hard drive is accessible from a separate bay, unlike other contemporary Toshiba laptops that bury it just like the floppy drive.
Oh, and Toshiba was really intent on protecting their highly proprietary Toshiba Card Manager 3.0 software (which I'm sure this post will poison that search term for all others, it always happens when I talk about technical things here -- sorry). I'm betting that they only had it installed on machines from the factory, but if you needed to reinstall it, things got complicated. Turns out you had to get a passphrase from some convoluted bullshit on their website back in the mid 90s, and this only applied to a select handful of machines that were even compatible with it in the first place. I don't imagine I will be able to use that for PCMCIA hotswap management, which sucks.
Another fun bit is that despite being released in 1995, this machine is clearly intended to run Windows 3.1. None of the drivers I was able to locate for the hardware are the expected VXD or INF files.
For the moment, I've got a Backpack external floppy drive connected via the parallel port, but all other file transfers involve me removing the CF card from the hard drive bay. It's faster that way. Hopefully I can get this thing configured well enough to use it.

to you, my boy, i leave my greatest wealth, my legacy: first, the great quantity of Kroger Fuel Points i have accumulated over the past 31 days, use them to get a discount of 90 cents a gallon on any gasoline or diesel purchase at a Kroger Fuel Center, but don't be a sucker, boy, don't use a denomination of 10 cents for the purchase;, use the whole thing, and make sure your tank is nearly empty when you do, and be careful, the points expire at the end of November, second, i leave to you my Toshiba Canvio Basics 500 GB Portable Hard Drive containing over 200 gigabytes of pornography pirated between 2005 and 2013, many of those videos you can't even find anymore, real underground stuff, i've checked, boy, and i think one of those videos in the "Dark Stuff" folder might actually be real, i leave it you to figure out which one of them it is, there's also some tv shows and movies on it, i think the first couple seasons of Venture Bros and Citizen Kane, the pornography is in a hidden file in the file containing Citizen Kane, the hidden file is called 'cd freebie,' and, finally, third, i leave you the plastic bag of Kroger 100% Pure Beef Frozen Burgers in the freezer, yes, boy, they're a few months past their expiration date, but they're frozen so i think they're basically fine, my time has come, to rejoin the great Freeway ...

I'm slowly reading up on building a NAS so that when I want to look at my photos I don't have to do slapstick shit with a stack of hard drives and HDD pricing is bizarre. 12, 14, and 16TB drives are all nearly identical prices. Some cool Toshiba drives out there. Haven't thought about Toshiba in a while.
I was going to do 2×12TB because while RAID isn't backup, having to restore from a cloud backup is a pain in the ass on slow internet if I can just restore from a RAID mirror and verify against hashes. I guess I'll probably end up at 2×16TB? That would really put me well beyond my Mission Time target (10 years) since I figure I generate at most like 300GB of photos a year. I guess I can get my brother to upload the family photo archive as well.
I considered doing 3×8TB but that requires me to actually consider a real PC build and not just jamming it in an old Lenovo Thinkcentre or whatever and also the pricing shakes out pretty similarly. At work I recently adopted a forgotten RAID1 server (read, old 2-bay WD MyCloud running debian) that finally had a drive failure after 11 years so I figure, 2 drives is. plenty.

Hey, I just recently rediscovered an ancient looking laptop in my garage, a Toshiba Satellite 325 (I think?) It's missing a hard drive but I have it's power supply and I'm pretty sure it works. Should I just take it to an E-waste place or would y'all be interested in it?
Sure. if you're in the US it shouldn't be too bad to ship it, and I've got some Toshiba Satellites already, so spare parts is always good.
DM me and I can give you my P.O. box!
