It's the middle of the night when Grian hears footsteps approach where he's made camp in the new Hermitlands of Empires. (Or whatever they're calling it - Hermitopia? Hermempire? He hasn't been paying enough attention; despite it being his idea, he's pretty sure Impulse has already named it.) He's about to roll over and complain about it being LATE, he's SLEEPING, thank you, when he sees who it is.
He blinks.
"Hey, Grian," Pearl says.
"Hey, Pearl," Grian says. "It's late. Uh, hold on."
He grabs a torch and lights it. Pearl's dress has mud all over it. Her eyes are red. She has a strange expression.
"...Pearl?"
"You're a tailor, right?" she asks.
"Yeah, I'd say so," Grian says. "Vital for a number of things. Later I'm actually gonna go offer to make Timmy's seams tighter to mess with him, actually, if you wanna -"
"Haha," Pearl says. It's not really a laugh so much as a forced chuckle to interrupt him, so Grian takes the hint and stops. "Ha. You already know him, huh."
Grian stops for a long time. He... is not sure how to explain Jimmy to Pearl, if she doesn't already know, so he just nods.
"...and he knows you."
"Kind of?" Grian says, making a face.
"Kind of," repeats Pearl.
"Look, Tim and I go back," Grian says, and leaves the explanation at that. He studies Pearl's face. It doesn't yield any results; Pearl's expression is remarkably blank. "It's sort of a weird situation," he tries again, wondering what about it is so offending Pearl. There's another awkward silence. "Uh, look, just help me mess with him?"
"...after I spar with Sausage, and that's not what I'm here to ask you about. I wanted to ask if you could make me a new hoodie," Pearl says.
"And pants, I assume?" Grian adds.
"I mean," Pearl says, smiling for the first time the whole interaction.
"I shouldn't have given the option," Grian complains. "First Scar, now everyone around me. You're wearing pants!"
"If you think you can control that -"
"Nope! Nope, not listening to it." Pearl laughs. Grian considers it a victory. "Anyway, I'll just need the fabric, sure. I don't have time to go collecting. I think that, uh, Chromia? They seem like a textiles place, probably them...?"
"You can cut up the dress," Pearl says, rather emphatically.
Grian pauses.
"You'll have to wear some of my -"
"I don't mind. Grian, please."
Grian stares at Pearl. The dress she'd found herself wearing once she came through the portal is a beautiful thing, practically glimmering with magic. Sunflowers are woven into it in impossible ways. If Grian destroys it, there will be no replicating it, not without the magic that created it in the first place. It's a finer piece of clothing than the tailor in Grian wants to destroy.
She's covered it in mud. Her eyes are red. It is well past midnight.
Grian throws his spare set of clothes at her. "Go get changed, I'll make it a rush order, so you actually have proper clothes."
Pearl sags with relief. "Sure. I'll owe you."
"You absolutely do," agrees Grian. "Remember that, I'm going to collect!"
Pearl doesn't argue. She goes to change. Grian watches after her.
...huh.
Well, he thinks. That's one more thing to worry about on the increasingly astronomical list of things to worry about after they went through the Rift. it's really too bad that has to be de-prioritized under a lot of other things because that is some weird Pearl behavior, but Grian's already getting blamed for too much to try to fix something he's not involved in. Still. Still!
Pearl comes back with the dress, and Grian promises to message her when he's done. She leaves. Grian holds the dress in his hands and wonders what, exactly, he's missing here.
He'd never get rid of such a beautiful dress. It had basically been made for her. He still feels bad destroying it.
...it's worth the IOU.
He gets to work.

You know the only reason that the Empires folks aren't on board with the Hermits going home is that they are not familiar with the natural Hermit life cycle. They have seen the initial exploratory phase, in which friendly Hermits with no homes wander the server and begin gathering up tools as well as making charming little bases to hold their baby chest monsters. They have also seen the intense growth and development phase, in which Hermits are compelled to create massive farms and trading halls to overcome the significant disadvantage of living in a survival world without the infinite resources they crave. These phases have been generally pretty beneficial to the Emperors, who've had a bunch of new neighbors to show off to, plus a bunch of free labor in their own various farming projects. Nothing beats a Stage 2 Hermit on the grind when it comes to building a farm or trading with villagers!
The Emperors are in no way prepared, however, for the next stages of Hermitvolution. They are already vaguely dismayed at the size and scope of Hermitopia, which is merely one industrial district turned on its side and decorated, how would they cope with Stage 3, Megabase Development? Hermits in the wild need vast amounts of territory in which to create their ridiculously oversized build projects; trying to squeeze them in amongst the existing Empires would be like introducing a massive beaver colony into your average creekside subdivision. They are made to build and they must build, and woe betide anything that stands in their way. (Brief aside: the fact that we have not seen Doc "WorldEater" 77 in several weeks should be cause for a lot more concern than is being shown by inhabitants of the world in question.)
Even beyond the build phase, though, is the Destruction Phase, which inevitably occurs when the Hermits begin to complete or grow bored with their mega-projects. In the past, Hermits have been mostly satisfied by going to war with each other in epic landscape-altering conflicts later memorialized in song and animatic, but last season they celebrated the start of Destruction Phase by crashing the whole-ass moon into their server. It could be anything, is all I'm saying. They like a good wreckage.
The Emperors have a great thing going right now. They've gotten a ton of good stuff from their new Hermit buddies, builds and farms and a fun new Murder Hat to share around, and it's all been so nice. It is absolutely the ideal moment to wave goodbye, promise to write and that you'll get together again at the next death game. Surely nobody's going to do something crazy like try to keep the Hermits around by force, right? Right?

Joel is going to agree in helping Jimmy but there will be a price. Like admitting that he is a toy or apologizing to Hermes or both. After all, Joel is a whimsical god. He might simply see this opportunity to get back at Fwhip for remaking the Stratos gold into a chicken statue. But no further than that. Depends on how well the initial alliance goes but forecast is doubtful.
Lizzie will definitely be involved in this mess, sooner or later. Fwhip is her neighbor and her closest ally. They have the goat horn of friendship. It is a question whether Fwhip will ask for help or Lizzie will mobilize on her own.
The most interesting matter here, I believe, is the underground market. Just like how Scott got rid of his problems by selling the artifacts from the museum and the trident from Joey to Lizzie, Fwhip can simply put the badge on sale along with the hat. And Joel deeply wants that hat. Things could get messier if Fwhip decided to put the sheriff badge on sale as well. Scar wants the deputy badge and there are several people who would be interested in the sheriff badge. Mainly, Grian. And if Grian has the sheriff badge, he already has the perfect deputy, Scar. That would mean Hermitopia can start going around and enforcing the law.
Ah, things are really getting heated and messy in the Empires server. So many promising chaos and drama.

hehehehehe Empires False time!
aaaand of course she assumes she sleep-built the watchtower, its e!False of course she does
Its funny that she goes “It must be me” because yes, but also no
GLITCH IN THE MATRIX???? Wait is that Hermit False saying “Quick before she comes back.”
....hey why was there redstone on the floor in the “Cleaning in progress” room
“She’s not safe” WITH A FLASHBACK OF HERMIT FALSE
EMPIRES FALSE IS SLOWLY KINDA GETTING HER MEMORIES BACK
Wait did i hear “She’s evil”???
“Promise me i’m running out of time” and “Quick get her” with more flashes of hc!False
CLOCK TICKING SOUNDS
SHE REMEMBERS ENOUGH TO REALIZE SHE DIDNT BUILD THE TOWER
the switch to the upbeat timelapse music is so jarring lol
SHE CANT GET INTO THE WATCHTOWER VIA BREAKING IN SOMETHING STOPS HER
An electric shock???
How the fuck?????
And she’s visiting Hermitopia and says she thinks they’re showing off lol
The fact that she named her saloon “Stupor Saloon” is slightly ominous, given False’s theme of sleep and brain stuff, also using red text
Jevin’s here!
WAIT E FALSE DIDNT GET SHORTENED LOL, so hc!False is just shorter than her now. Thats very funny
False i dont like how you have the crimson root stuff as decor along with your red signs you’re being Very Spooky rn
Still my blorbo but also girl whats going on???
She cut the part of her throwing that splash potion on Jevin from his vid, interesting. Does she not remember that or is she manipulating the narritive?
Grrr i dont like how hc!False made me so nervous around e!False, i keep looking for extra signs of her being evil and there is some spooky so hmm.....
Either way e!False is my lil meow meow and if she’s evil good for her
WAIT FALSE SHOWED HERSELF ABOUT TO PUT THAT AMNESIA POTION ON PIX BUT HAD THE NORMAL VOICEOVER FOR IT UHOH

Why are both the False’s messing with memory stuff????
Ok final building time and then LoveTropics shoutout and the ep’s over!
*deep breath* SO WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON??????

I am somewhat obtaining a plot as i write more of The Ghost of Tumble Town AU, seemingly mostly about Jimmy and his relationship with his townfolk, but also about other empires leaders (Mostly Joel and Jimmy's) personal struggles.
Joel having trauma from his mortal life (Esmp S1) because he never gives himself time to mourn the loss of that time in his life, immediately being thrown into his next one as a god with (self imposed) responsibility.
Jimmy's a ghost who's been dead for a few centuries, living in and taking care of souls in Tumble Town. Forced to walk the overworld he helped other souls reach the afterlife. Until a raid comes leaving nothing but a burning flame. He knew Tumble Town was isolated, not well known, and therefore, easily forgotten. He promised to rebuild it from the ash and waste and become its new sheriff.
Joel and Jimmy's rivalry is very important. The world is slightly different being vaguely minecraft, lacking things like elytras, being closer to our world. In terms of travel mostly. Hermits are there being a mix of citizens of the empires and living in their own city Hermitopia. Also things like ghosts, and maybe vampires, werewolves, mob hybrids. Haven't thought about most characters other than the main ones.

Week 28 Transcript
Video
Intro
Extra extra, read all about it! Welcome to the Empire’s Recap, and today we will be going over the chaos and drama of our (somewhat) respected rulers!
This week so few people have uploaded, one might think there's been an apocalypse! But that was more last season’s vibe; perhaps we’ll have something funnier than the end of the world this time. Welcome to the New Year with Empires!
Pix
Even during the holidays, the grind never stops.
Pixlriffs has spent time on the Hermitcraft server gifting VintageBeef a proper nether tunnel for his card game factory - what better for the man making giant pixel art cards of everyone than pixel art of his own face?
At the Empires village - still on Hermitcraft - Pix has also been finishing up Santa's workshop, complete with a randomly flooded closet and an armor stand assembly line. It's the perfect place to put his new Zedvancement trophy as well, since he doesn't really have a house to put it in around here. He's been too busy speedrunning other advancements of the non-Zed kind; 27 of them in a three-hour stream!
[PIX] …only now-- Scar! I'm trying to do a bit to camera right now!
[NARRATOR] Speaking of festive, several of the Hermits and Emperors meet up around a holiday bonfire to swap stories and impressions and whatever bad idea Oli has next. Grian stops by, confused that they didn't get the memo. What memo?
[GRIAN] The bl—The-- The portal is just one block wide!
[NARRATOR] Uh oh. Time to leave.
The Emperors head back through the portal, one by one by one. As lovely as Hermitcraft is, it isn't home.
Pixlriffs is the last to go, and his goodbye is a little more familiar; they might not be seeing him again, but he'll be seeing them.
[CUB] See ya Pix!
[GRIAN] It's the joke that keeps on giving.
[PIX] I’ll see you next week!
[NARRATOR] Interdimensional journalist historians, am I right?
Finally back on Empires, Pix meets up with Oli, which is incredibly convenient - Pix is his secret santa! His gift is more of a responsibility: any time Oli needs rockets, Pix will provide them. How he gets the gunpowder without his own farm will be the second part of the gift: chaos.
Sausage
Meanwhile, crossing through the Rift once more leaves Sausage stranded in limbo. Thankfully, his girl Bubbles gets him out, and dumps him in the nexus village. He ponders his newfound memories, and promises Bubbles not to tell anybody.
He checks the Rift to make sure it doesn't link back to Hermitcraft, and immediately turns around and robs the Tower. It is perfectly ethical.
Feeling bad for Grumbot, he takes his target block, and places it in the L.O.R.E building. It's his last time, so he changes back into his regular outfit.
He gets to work on a lab to house his new son, Sunny, a robot designed to communicate through dimensions. After putting him on charge on a definitely-not-a-shrine, he sends a message though to Pearl on the Hermitcraft side.
Family bonding time begins when Sausage brings Hermes, Bubbles and Athena to meet Sunny, who's wheeled himself outside. A message from Pearl comes in while he's away, but it sounds like she is doing pretty good.
Scott
Chromia is looking quite different to how Scott left it, and it’s all down to one llama-human - Owen.
Owen is apparently back to human form and has taken over Chromia as Mayor while Scott’s been away.
He’s claimed Pearl’s house for his own and the other llamas have followed suit, apparently claiming the other buildings including Scott’s house. The mayor is a strict ruler if you’re not a llama, boarding up the villagers into their houses and drags Scott into forceful service as the Chromia Wheat Farmer - quite a bit of a demotion there.
[SCOTT] …else have you?
[OWEN] Not yet!
[SCOTT] Yet?
[OWEN] Yeah, oh look at this rapscallion! He has to stay in here ever since the charges.
[NARRATOR] Owen tries to kick him out, before Scott convinces him to follow him through the nether portal to Hermitopia where they have loads of sugar - Owen is not impressed, until Scott turns the sugarcane into sugar. Seems llamas haven’t figured out doors OR crafting recipes.
[OWEN] …power?
[SCOTT] Sure, yep, that’s it.
[OWEN] Some people, like, make the laws, some people are literal gods, and you… make sugar!
[NARRATOR] During the exploration, Owen gets caught on fire but denies it ever happened, and claims to have built the llama statue on the Greatbridge.
Night comes and with it comes a thunderstorm, and Owen is consistently scared of the loud thunder happening - the sky is angry, and Owen is a menace.
Scott tries to convince Owen to let him stay, and Owen makes him drink spit in the tavern and replant the wheat fields before he agrees to any changes in the newly-renamed “llama land”.
The demands are “more wheat, more sugar, no doors” which probably isn’t the weirdest thing a “Mayor” could’ve asked for but it’s certainly up there.
Eventually, Owen agrees to put Scott back in charge and go exploring like a proper adventurer, giving back the sheriff hat after a rousing speech.
Once Owen has left, Scott starts putting Chromia back to rights, and Owen… well…
[UPBEAT MUSIC]
[OWEN] O- Uh. Hey, can you help me with this? Hey! Can—Can you guys help me with this? Can you help me with this?
[OWEN, SOUNDING ECHO-Y] Can you help me with this!
Outro
And with that, join us next week for more chaos and shenanigans! Thank you for watching, liking, and subscribing, and thanks to everyone helping with the project, check them all out below!

i've already said a bit about it in the discord but i have hermitopia cleo brainrot
anyways cleo is presumed dead, sent by concorp into a mission as fodder basically until zit could arrive
joe being there was able to save her by giving her the regen powers along with her puppeteering telekinesis power
but now there's is one (1) bitter undead vigilante against concorp that is presumed dead
She wasn't even graduated from their program yet, just a trainee already considered a failure, given just enough training to stay alive long enough to make her death believable. That's the part that sparks the most rage in her, a bonfire in her bones that she can't ignore. She wasn't even graduated yet. They didn't even give her all they promised before casting her aside, writing her off, leaving her for dead. And they are going to pay.
