Hello again from Santa! I am so sorry it's taken me a while to leave you a message. I had some sad events here. :( I am working on your gift. I hope you are well! I totally agree with your most recent reblog about Rumple, btw. Seriously! Are you watching any other shows at the moment that you would recommend?
Unfortunately this has been the year of sad events and I am very sorry to hear of yours. Hopefully this answer finds you in a better place than you had been in at the start of your question.
I watch actors more than shows. My father quite literally raised me on Star Trek and taught me to look at television with the eye of someone who could enjoy both the art of storytelling and the story that was actually being told. The result was that I will watch any Star Trek and then watch any actor/actress who catches my eye. This was how I came to Once, by the way, following Oded (and Robert Carlyle, but therein lies a story too long for your answer) to this show about fairy tales that I was positive I would hate. Now that our Jafar has crossed the threshold into Star Trek I am simply overjoyed. I think I’ve been celebrating that journey the most lately.
Outside of that, if we are talking about people with current projects, Freddie Highmore’s work in the Good Doctor is simply brilliant. I came to him through Vera Farmiga, another actress I highly recommend that people follow. They were the stars of A&E’s Bates Motel, which you’ll forgive me for announcing if you already know, since I must guess if this is familiar or not to an anonymous asker. It was Oded who brought me to Vera, so I guess that takes me full circle on that front.
Past shows that I’d recommend would be Hell on Wheels (if you are a fan of westerns) and Anson Mount, Chris Heyerdahl, and Common, who work in it. Christopher Heyerdahl can literally throw an entire performance into the way he moves his toes and my following his work took me to this amazing tale of exploration and revenge. Anson is also phenomenal at what he does. His podcast (The Well) is a must listen for anyone who enjoys the arts in an intellectual sort of way.
Another show from the past is Sense 8, one of the few pieces of small screen drama that I tried for the pure joy of the story and not because I had one actor or the other in mind. I was not at all disappointed in that decision.
There is also Sleepy Hollow, which was filmed semi-locally to me, so I have an affection for it naturally, but the writing in the first seasons is simply brilliant, as are most of the cast. Thanks to this show I will forever complain about autocorrect by typing “poor cellophane conception” and imagine my phone sliding across the table whenever it tells me to swipe to unlock it.
Of course, if we share similar tastes, you probably have seen some of the above, so let’s see what I can get you that might not be something I’ve shared before...
My wife and I recently started watching Shameless, not because of the cast but because she is someone who can actually just watch television as television and not for a particular reason. It is a harsh reality of a family living with so much difficulty, but a story I am finding that I actually want to be told. We have a lot of catching up to do, but I don’t see myself pulling away until the very end.
Colin  O'Donoghue ‘s work has grown on me since Once Upon A Crime (my name for Season 7) and I’ve been catching up on The Right Stuff, which I’d paused due to life and all the little things that kept me from having any actual free time to speak of. I think I’ve seen Giles’s 1BR three times now and just recently devoured all of Sebastian Stan’s show Kings.
I think all of this is much more than you were after, of course. lol Me and my ramblings.

Hi Drew! Hope you're doing well! So, this is kind of random, but I was just watching Peter Pan (again), and I began thinking about who I liked the best as Peter, Wendy, Hook etc. Then, I started wondering which portrayals were your favorites (not sure if you ever mentioned it before). Which portrayals of the Peter Pan characters from the adaptations were your favorites? BTW, a girl I went to high school with is Pocahontas at DW currently. :)
Once again, I must apologize to you for taking so long to answer. This is such a fantastic question and I wanted to really think about it and give a great response and so I kept putting it off and then it got buried in my inbox and just… I am so, so sorry.
But, like I said, this is a fantastic question. So here are my answers!
Hook: I’m starting here because this is the first one that I knew right away what my preference was. Dustin Hoffman as Hook in Hook (1990). He is just the perfect, perfect Captain Hook. He has all of the elegance that is described and all of the ruthlessness to go with it. I love Jason Isaacs as well, he’s easily my number two because I think he was brilliant, but he’s a much rougher interpretation of Hook than Hoffman, who just absolutely nails every facet of this incredible character.
Honorable Mention: Jason Isaacs, Colin O'DonoghueWorst Hook Pick: Christopher Walken (A lazy and uninspired performance, I expected him to forget his lines any minute.)
Peter: Another one I knew right away. Cathy Rigby’s many performances as Peter solidify her spot as the number one Boy Who Lived. First of all, it’s incredible that she has literally made a career out of playing this one role, not to mention that this one role is a little boy and she’s still been playing them into her 60s! Come on! But then on top of that, she is just amazing. Her Peter is appropriately bratty and immature, and her gymnastics take her performance to the next level.
Honorable Mention: Bobby DriscollWorst Peter Pick: Mary Martin (What were they thinking… look, I love the Mary Martin Peter Pan, it was my introduction to Peter Pan as a whole, but conceptually who put the names Mary Martin and Peter Pan together to begin with? It’s absurd casting, really.) Allison Williams is a close second.
Tinker Bell: I think unquestionably Disney’s Tinker Bell takes the cake here. They’ve developed Tinker Bell and her personality in a way that no one has ever been able to accomplish to eloquently. I enjoy Ludivine Sagnier in the 2003 film, but her Tink is a comedic mime. Disney’s Tink has class and humanity while still keeping the sense that this is a tiny fairy who has very big emotions.
Honorable Mention: Rose McIverWorst Tink: Keira Knightley in Neverland (Just boring really.)
Wendy: I had to really think about this one. I think Disney wins again in this round. Wendy is always intelligent and nurturing, but there’s something about the warmth of young Kathryn Beaumont’s voice that really shines as Wendy. They develop her in a way that Disney doesn’t always manage to do successfully with some of their child characters. She has layers - jealousy is certainly a flaw of hers, and it shows up several times throughout the film. Plus the moment she shares with Peter and Tink at the end of Return to Neverland just makes me melt into a puddle of tears every time.
Honorable Mention: Maggie Smith/Gwyneth PaltrowWorst Wendy Pick: Eliza Sagardia (Even the kindest description of her performance would have to include the word “annoying.”)
Tiger Lily:Here’s a surprise for you: I’m going with Sara Tomko on Once Upon A Time. I think their interpretation of Tiger Lily as a disgraced fairy is one of the most interesting twists they’ve done for a character, in the same vein as their Bo Peep in a way, and Tomko delivers a strong performance.
Honorable Mention: Dana SolimandoWorst Tiger Lily Pick: Rooney Mara (Come on.)
John and Michael: I have a particular fondness for John because I relate to him very strongly due to his intelligence and his need to follow the rules and also because I played him when I was ten years old. I can’t think of any particular interpretation of John or Michael that I don’t like… Disney’s versions are great, the Cathy Rigby versions are solid, I guess maybe I’d criticize the 2003 versions for being kind of messy… they’re used as slapstick a little too much for my taste.
Honorable Mention: I like them all!Worst John and Michael Picks: I guess they were pretty disappointing on Once Upon A Time
Mr. and Mrs. Darling: Again, I don’t think anyone has really messed them up too much. I’d probably say Paul Schoeffler in the Cathy Rigby filmed production is the quintessential George and Olivia Williams in the 2003 film is the perfect Mary, although I adored Kelli O'Hara, she was one of the few good things about Peter Pan Live.
Honorable Mention: Hans Conried and Heather AngelWorst Mr. and Mrs. Darling Pick: Cyril Ritchard, I guess, and Barbara McCulloh
I think that’s most of the main characters!! Thank you so much for a fantastic question, and I just cannot apologize enough for how long it’s taken me to answer.
