Rest in Power Richard Davis,
The passing of Richard Davis is a very sad moment for anyone interested in the tradition of jazz music. He was one of the most prolific and astonishing bass players to have ever walked on earth playing classical music with stravinsky, big band jazz with Mel Lewis and Thad Jones, playing avant garde music with Eric Dolphy and rock music with Van Morrisson. His playing was the result of mastery and complete knowledge of the upright bass as an instrument, wether he was comping with a band or playing as a soloist he'd always use the complete scope of the bass.
