Boom! Done.
First draft complete.
Now to leave it well alone for a while, work on editing other things and beginning additional new words. I am quite pleased with how this tale turned out. I also have copious “TK” notes about what to add it, what to alter, how to approach the redraft. At its heart, this is a love story and one that neatly sets up the involvement of these two characters in the longer work I am planning. They have their agency, they have their deep bond, now all I will need to do is throw increasing peril at them, see whether this bond is strong, or it snaps. (Spoiler — I like to think [at this stage] it is strong enough to survive, but I have been wrong with my characters before.)
Physically I feel really rather great today. Yesterday I ate more and ensured I stayed well hydrated, and I feel rested. I may even try a workout today or tomorrow, we shall see.

Nearly finished, perhaps only one or two more 30 minute sessions to yield a decent first draft.
Physically, my infection feels like it has completely passed, but I have been left weakened, easily and constantly exhausted, which is irritating in extreme. Likewise irritating is my lightheadedness, which doesn’t seem to want to pass — it has been hanging around in one shape or another for weeks now, and recently has been worse. I suspect perhaps dehydration, but also perhaps something underlying, such as a relative lack of iron. Here we rarely eat red meat, for example, so perhaps it is time to check our iron intake, see if it needs raising. Perhaps some rehydration salts will also help? Can’t hurt, anyway.

After a day yesterday where all I managed was a read through and notetaking (which is actually rather useful), I finished the scene I’ve had in my head for some months. That was the major action of this story, and now this is complete all I need to do to finish it is tie up loose ends and set up What Comes Next. Hooray!
In infection news, feeling a bit brighter today, but also more exhausted. It is frustrating, but I am hopeful I will mend over the next few days.

This was around 50 minutes of writing, I had a little extra time, so did not stick to my usual 30-minute slot. The scene I am writing is one that shapes what-is-to-come, pivotal and rather exciting. It will need extra work in the redraft and edit, in order to get it that I can see in my mind, but I like the first draft, all the salient points are there.
I had to get antibiotics for this infection — it was spreading and getting worse, despite being present for some days. Annoying, yes, but I’d rather not risk any complications. Tonight will be an aircon and curtains closed night, and should help me sleep. I am missing being able to eat properly and I cannot wait to be well again.

I somehow managed to craft over 900 words in 30 minutes, despite writing in the late afternoon (my best and most creative time is the morning) and also being afflicted with a throat and ear infection, which is getting a little annoying, to say the least. I guess that sometimes a story just wants to be told, pushing out through whatever tries to hold it back. I like that.

I’m pleased with this. As I mentioned previously, I suspect the final wordcount will be far fewer than 20K words, but we shall still see - I’m already reaching the major pivotal scene and I’m tempted to reduce the count to 10k, but I quite like seeing the bar in red. Perverse, perhaps, but it helps with my drive to complete.
Last night here in Chiang Mai it rained, very hard. I knew there had already bneen flooding north of here in Chiang Dao, so it wasn’t really a surprise, but it rained and rained and rained, heavy enough to flood over our gate (or beneath it - the water was not THAT high).
Every time it rains hard I wonder iff this will be the last time before the end of the rainy season, before the months of no rain. To me, it seems as though there was less frequent rain this year - but heavier when it did rain.
We have many tadpoles in the plant pots, a chorus of frogs to impress even Paul McCartney.

WIP TKDesert 09/10/2018 775 words.
Ignore the inaccurate wordcount. I had to restart my computer, thanks to a perfectly timed windows update that ground all to a halt. Cheers, windows. Again.
Still, I’m pleased with this — I am at the point where I am in danger of having the final quarter of the story being all explanation and talking. I need to think carefully about how I can get around this, whilst also including all the information I need to add for What Comes Next.
Physically, I’m much better today, still a dull throat and earache, and the occasional stabbing pain, as well as the customary post-antibiotics stomach ache, but much much better. Exhausted though.

Day five of this story and I’ve reached the scene I have wanted to write for some months now.
I managed a respectable total today, considering I had to write it from bed, the throat and ear infection making standing difficult. Fortunately, living here in Thailand, garlic cloves, fresh ginger, fresh limes and longan honey are all easily and cheaply located. Tomorrow, I hope, I shall feel brighter.

Day two of this new short story. I think I should have it finished in fewer than 20k words, but I am giving myself the leeway in case it needs it.
TKDESERT is nowhere near the actual title, but I needed to call it something. I’m pleased with how this is progressing.
