i am so so so insane over them (i wrote a fic abt them)

i need to talk abt this so like. so. so youve got magi ruiz. magi is. like not even a “the ends justify the means” girl shes a “the means justify the means” girl. shes entirely about “if i have the ability to do something then why wouldnt i do it?” (this is about necromancy and also every other bad decision she makes). and you have layna who’s been in this game from the start and she’s going through it a little but she’s still having fun and enjoying her new home and new friends. she’s not too concerned about being good at the game she’s concerned about protecting what’s important to her and loving it with her whole heart

meanwhile. magi NEEDS to prove herself. she needs to be as cool and as amazing as she thinks her moms are. she needs to impress her little sibling so bo will finally look up to her again like back when the two of them were kids. she needs to do something that even her family couldnt do; she needs to do something out of this world. and goddamn magi is head-over-heels for layna from the start. layna’s a cool punk girl standing well over six feet before the platform boots and she’s also a were-hellhound from the giant mouth to hell in the desert and she’s got sunflowers in her fur and magi knew the band was cool but holy shit holy shit holy shit? so when she cracks this ritual from a dead guy’s old notes of course she wants to show off to layna. layna likes max a lot! everyone likes max! magi did that, and she wants to do something like that again, something that wows people and gets everyone to look at them with amazement. they want layna to look at them like that. so maaaaybe a weird magic ritual is a weird first date but maybe she doesn’t need to tell her it’s a date. maybe she’ll just see how cool and smart magi is

so one day magi drags along one alaynabella hollywood for this cool ritual she wants to try and uhhh sort of neglects to leave out what the ritual is in her explanation. layna says sure! because magi is cute and seems pretty smart and they only met recently but she trusts them pretty well. layna grabs her resonator guitar and heads out to the field. and suddenly the wind starts whipping and the sky goes dark and out of the brand new psychoacoustics system (the one that magi installed and maintains), theres this unbelievably loud screaming that just seems to go on and on and layna is getting worried, she shouts for magi but it’s too loud and all she hears is magi urging her to keep going, it’s almost done, it’s almost complete, trust me

and layna trusts her

(and the saddest part is layna already knows how cool and smart magi is. layna already loves her and if magi had just told her how she felt instead of trying this, then layna would have said yes, you never needed any grand rituals to impress me, i love you too)

and then the trust is damaged but the love is still there. it’s always there

Three Ships: this was so fucking difficult to choose just three. if i exclude toh ships (obvi gustho would be #1 otherwise) it’s probably: 1) Troy/Abed - trobed from community are like my all time faves i keep coming back to them…my beloved theyre just. i love them sm ❤️❤️❤️ 2) Link/Zelda - okay okay this one is where i get hyperspecific. cause i don’t ship them in EVERY zelda game (the most notable exceptions being twilight princess and ocarina of time) but in the ones that i DO ship them? oh they’re fucking everything to me my god. i go insane feral 3) Adrien/Marinette - i’ve been watching miraculous ladybug since it came out okay. i’ve loved these two for so long and read so many fics of them it’d be a crime not to put them on this list. also bc i think they’re adorable

First Ever Ship: kim/ron from kim possible is the first one i consciously remember shipping but it’s kind of hazy…otherwise it would be one from phineas and ferb that was my first fandom

hi jay!! i've been so busy but i finally managed to read the first 7k words of violet rays and didn't want to make you wait who knows how long until i have time to read more.

you are insane for that 1st paragraph! what an insanely good opening. "They call it sonder - the realization that every passerby has a life as vivid and complex as your own." incredible start. incredible.

the packing scene is such an adorable way to characterize reader. what a relatable reader character but very charming too.

somehow i missed that this wasn't a best friend ran fic but a best friend's older brother ran fic, which is infinitely more up my alley. i was so hype when i realized. because yeah, big brother ran would have me in chokehold too.

i really love the way you are structuring your scenes. the quick transitions, the balance of dialogue and interiority. i especially love how you're establishing settings. i somehow get a little lost when reading fic because of the lack of setting (which is understandable, i get authors wanting to get to the hot stuff!) but i love that you are giving us the full sensory details. my favorites so far:

"the inside of your cotton tank top sticks uncomfortably to your skin, the same way that the soft hairs at the back of your neck are sticking to each other." and "the world around you is blue and green." it's all of it tbh

i can already tell this is going to be my favorite thing you've ever written!!!

the first paragraph was actually written last in the fic 👀 im not very good at intro’s, honestly i tend to struggle w them a lot; so i slapped that word in there and called it a day ahahakaksn

i actually LOVE the mc so much in this fic! i pat myself on the back because she’s so cute, and i wanted the readers to be able to relate with her on some level. i also put some of myself in her too hehe i really am writing my fantasies huh

it’s actually a theyre-both-my-best friends-but-i’m-in-love-with-the-older-one LMAO she is closer to Rin tho (and oh my god, i was trying so hard not to make him the main guy i’m so down bad he makes me SO weak) but i won’t say anymore about their dynamic in fear of spoiling it, because you’ll understand once you’ve read the whole thing!

i love that trope too!! i will admit i was falling for ran each day i was NOT immune to this pouty mess of a man! sorry ran, but rin will always remain number one in my heart!

i think it adds more spice tbh, it’s more interesting than the regular friends2lovers ✨✨

i can proudly say tho, that establishing a setting and describing surroundings is my strong point in writing, i really focus on that + characterization a lot. i worked hard on those, fun fact, i had to re write Ran’s first kitchen scene with the reader like THREE TIMES!!! bc i was like …. no .. he would not say that or act like that.. re write it. lmaoo my beta readers hate me HAHA

HI NINES HI HI HI HI HI !!!!!!! SO !!!!! over a year ago blaseball ended in the most spectacular fashion on the most emotional thursday (?) i've ever had. basically all the teams had to give each other fuel so that they could move around on a map to various locations, and the map started slowly being eaten by a black hole, and there was LOVE and TRAGEDY and DEICIDE and SOLIDARITY and in the end we all got eaten by the black hole anyway and we could never have stopped it but it mattered that we tried and that the love was there.

and then it went on hiatus for over a year (with some mini-episode non-canon things last november/december).

and NOW!!!!!!!! THINGS!!!!!!!!! ARE FINALLY STARTING TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!! MY INSANE AND UNBREAKABLE HYPERFIXATION IS FINALLY BEING REWARDED!!!!!!!! so um it seems like basically what's going to happen is the players we knew and loved from last era will be slowly falling out of the black hole they all got sucked into and will land on a random team. will they still have the same stats and modifications they did when we last saw them? will we be able to have any effect on who drops and to where? will only the players actively playing at the end of last era be falling?? at what rate will they be falling??? IS IT EVEN STILL THE NEW YORK MILLENNIALS WITHOUT SCHNEIDER BENDIE THOMAS DRACAENA PATTY FOX AND THEODORE CERVANTES???? HOW WILL I COPE WITH THIS????? PROBABLY BY YELLING A LOT!!!!!!!!!! im so so so so so incredibly excited and honestly even if the mills are an entirely different team most of the real life fans will still be there and i'll be very very happy to see them.

so that's how blaseball's going! thank you for asking! the first player will fall tomorrow at 3pm eastern and i'll be thinking about that fact for the entire school day. :D
