Typhoon Paeng is also the strongest typhoon that everyone has experienced. They are similar to Typhoon Odette in that both caused harm to a large number of individuals.
We had a very strong wind in our area, and I saw some trees being felled and branches and leaves from the trees being scattered on another road as a result of the very strong wind. However, I am still grateful to God that our area did not experience floods, and I am thankful that my father did not leave us even though he was needed for his work at that time, He also thought about our family that we might experience a flood if the rain continued. I can say that my father is the super hero of our family.
In this kinds of situations, we should be always be ready or prepared, whether there is an announcement or nothing. It is important as long as you experience a typhoon. The second thing I learned is to always think about whether it is safer to stay at home or to evacuate, and also not panic. And lastly, always choose to save yourself or someone else who needs more help than things that can be replaced. Always remember what Mother Teresa said: “The greatest good is what we do for one another” And according to the Bible in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks” so let's still be thankful that more are safe when we experience these situations.

First Blog Post of the Year and Life Update
This is my first blog post for 2022.
I started ~committing~ to the blog this month last year. I know that I haven't posted more and have attempted many times to write (but for them to just end up reverted to my drafts). But I hope to continue writing more stories, random thoughts, reviews, recos, and other content I like to share. Even if I share them anywhere outside this blog. No matter how busy I get. Because
I don't think I make time for it. It makes time for itself.I share a lot on my social media but I think this blog requires more attention again before I start to fall out of it. So with that, here's a life update:
Super Typhoon Odette
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2021 didn't end well as we all hoped it would be. Super Typhoon Odette (Rai) hit last December 16 and it was one of the most scariest catastrophes we've ever experienced. A branch from our mango tree fell hard on the empty area of our lot, LUCKILY damaging only the gutters of our roofs. For about a month, we didn't have electricity, signal, internet connection, and only ate canned goods. We didn't even have running water til nearing the end of the year. Social services were not immediately restored. I remember less than a week since Odette, we went out for the first time to search for charging areas and our surroundings felt, to me, like we're in an apocalyptic setting.
Back in the Province After 2 Years
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the holidays should still be celebrated. Although we pretty much slept Christmas Eve after having dinner, we traveled to our province on Christmas morning. The situation there is pretty much worse after the typhoon hit but I was so excited to finally reunite with my grandmother and cousins there after years of not visiting due to the pandemic. Besides, the fresh unpolluted air and yummy seafood are what we can't afford everyday here in the city.
Coping After the Typhoon
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And oh, did I mention we all slept right after our New Year's dinner? Yup, we pretty much slept through the holiday festivities (thanks to Odette). Although it was a first for us to celebrate Christmas and New Year unconventionally, we are blessed and grateful to still have food on our table and a roof above us. And while we didn't have electricity and internet connection, I kept myself busy by reading a lot of books and creating more art.
Fortunately, power is back now at home, we have running water, signal, and internet connection. However, there are still sooo many places and families who are still trying to recover and rebuild from Odette's aftermath. Life's getting harder for many of us here especially that there's a surge of COVID cases again 😔 (My family and I recently got sick but we've recovered now.)
For now, I just hope and pray that things can go way up from here. 2022, here I go.
Love, Andie

What is Social Media?
Tumblr media
Social media refers to the means of interactions among people in which they create, share, and/or exchange information and ideas in virtual communities and networks. The Office of Communications and Marketing manages the main Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts.
We offer an array of tools, including one-on-one consults with schools, departments and offices looking to form or maintain an existing social media presence to discuss social media goals and strategy, as well as offer insights and ideas. Before creating any social media account, you must submit the Account Request Form. Be sure to check with your school’s communications office for any school specific regulations or branding guidelines.
Key Principles for Social Media Managers:
Social media is about conversations, community, connecting with the audience and building relationships. It is not just a broadcast channel or a sales and marketing tool.
Authenticity, honesty and open dialogue are key.
Social media not only allows you to hear what people say about you, but enables you to respond. Listen first, speak second.
Be compelling, useful, relevant and engaging. Don’t be afraid to try new things, but think through your efforts before kicking them off.
Popular Social Media Tools and Platforms:
Blog: A platform for casual dialogue and discussions on a specific topic or opinion.
Facebook: The world’s largest social network, with more than 1.55 billion monthly active users (as of the third quarter of 2015). Users create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including status updates. Brands create pages and Facebook users can “like” brands’ pages.
Tumblr media
Twitter: A social networking/micro-blogging platform that allows groups and individuals to stay connected through the exchange of short status messages (140 character limit).
Tumblr media
YouTube/Vimeo: Video hosting and watching websites.
Tumblr media
Flickr: An image and video hosting website and online community. Photos can be shared on Facebook and Twitter and other social networking sites.
Instagram: A free photo and video sharing app that allows users to apply digital filters, frames and special effects to their photos and then share them on a variety of social networking sites.

Philippines: Super Typhoon Rai (Odette) Humanitarian Needs and Priorities Revision (Dec 2021 - Jun 2022) (2 Feb 2022)
Just six weeks ago, Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as Odette, made its first landfall on 16 December 2021, bringing torrential rains, violent winds, floods and storm surges to the Visayas and Mindanao Islands. Overnight, the Typhoon left hundreds dead and hundreds of thousands of families homeless. Initial reports showed devastation across many areas of the impacted regions, but it is only over the subsequent weeks that the full scale of damage has come to light. Our initial assessments only hinted at the scale of destruction – nearly 1.7 million houses damaged or destroyed, massive damage to infrastructure, agricultural land, fishing communities and livelihoods across a vast geographic area of the country. In total, the Typhoon severely affected an estimated 9.9 million people across the six worst hit regions, leaving about 2.4 million people in need of assistance. More than a month on nearly 144,000 people remain displaced, and many more are living in damaged shelters with little access to basic services.
Tumblr media
I congratulate the Government of the Philippines for their preparedness activities and for their response. The effectiveness of the pre-emptive evacuation of over 800,000 people and clear early warning messaging saved many lives.
Introduction to newspaper articles
Tumblr media
There are many types of newspapers, from school/university publications to large news outlets like the Daily Mail, or Guardian. Local papers will focus more on events in and around the community, for example they may cover community fates or markets. They’ll also have stories about local people. They will still be written in a professional and formal way but may have a more conversational tone.
Unlike local papers, national publications will focus more on events that effect the wider populous. They will also report on noteworthy international events, such as crises and wars, but also sporting and entertainment events like the Olympics. They advertise to a much wider audience than local papers and need to relate to most of the population.
Purpose of a Newspaper Article
News articles are written to inform and educate readers on current affairs/events. They are used to provide readers with information they need/want to know about the world around them. You will either be told what to write your article on or have a choice of topics related to the module this assessment is for.
What is radio?
Tumblr media
Radio is a form of wireless communication that allows the transmission and reception of audio signals over long distances. It uses electromagnetic waves to carry information through the air. Radio signals can be used to broadcast music, news, talk shows, and other types of audio content. This technology has played a significant role in entertainment, information dissemination, and communication throughout history.
What is Television?
Tumblr media
Television, often referred to as TV, is a widely used medium of visual and audio communication. It is a system that transmits and receives moving images and sound over long distances. Televisions use a combination of electronic components to display broadcasted or pre-recorded visual content, such as television shows, movies, documentaries, and news programs. The transmission of these images and accompanying audio occurs through radio waves or cables. Television has become a prominent source of entertainment, information, and education, allowing viewers to engage with a wide range of content from the comfort of their homes.

Super Typhoon Rai (locally known as Odette) made its first landfall on 16 December 2021. It brought torrential rains, violent winds, floods, and storm surges.( Relief web 2022).
During this time me and my family is in our house, it was raining heavily and the wind is blowing violently. You can hear outside the roofs that are being blown by the wind. In the morning when the heavy rain and violet wind stops, you can see the mini chapel near our house is totally destroyed, the chapel was only made of woods and bamboo so it was easily destroyed. The star apple tree near our house was cutout by the strong wind.
People started cleaning up. They remove the branches of trees in the road. They clean up the roofs that are everywhere. Also the chapel near us was replaced by a much stronger foundation. They made sure that this can't be easily blown by winds and heavy rain.

Typhoon Rai, known as Typhoon Odette in The Philippines, made landfall at some time in the middle of December, 2021. It is a Category 5 equivalent super typhoon and the strongest one to struck The Philippines on that year (Wikipedia, 2021).
When the pouring rain finally reached us, mother and I were hanging out with her university friends at a seaside resort in Iloilo City. This is when my aunt called in a panic and said that our house in guimaras is flooding after a wall dividing our lot with the neighbor's fell down.
After the typhoon and a lot of cleaning up, the old wall is now replaced by a newer, more stronger one. This ensures that the wall will be able to take on intense weather conditions which inevitably results to a safer home.

A Saddest Year
A Saddest Year
If someone died in your arms even though you beg, pray, and cried to him, would you still be able to trust him? It was December 24, 2021. A rainy night. We weren't able to ready and celebrate Christmas because our house was broken due to the typhoon Odette, there's no electricity and I wasn't happy nor sad at all, I was like a rock, there's no emotion, yet I managed to talked to him, “Thank you for protecting us and keeping us safe, you're the best, happy birthday!” I said in my mind. A Christmas passed and after that we still continue fighting. December 27, I thought it was just a normal day, I was enjoying my own business, then suddenly my aunt called me, she needed help about my nephew who's my cousin's son, “Can you please watch your nephew?” she asked. She needs to do laundry that day, since almost of their things got wet due to the flood because of the typhoon, as a help. I said yes, I wasn't even doing anything good. I left my father who's peacefully sleeping at his room, I didn't think anything bad as I was leaving our house. Seconds, minutes, and hours just flew by, it was already night when I got home, I was smiling the moment I entered the house, when suddenly I saw my brother who's looking at me with a disappointed and anger eyes, then he spoke “Why did you left the house?” he asked. I answered him in a polite way, “Aunt called me earlier, and she needs help about our nephew, so, I helped” I said in a calm voice then I asked “why?” just like that, he walked out and entered the room of my father, I ignored him even though he acts weird. I slept early that night since I was tired. I awoke super early because of the noise I heard, I was still half brained when I tried to get up, I saw my brother's panicked face, then he said, “Papa had been rushed to the hospital with mama, I need to get there as soon as possible” I was stunned, it took minutes until I realized that I was crying.
Hours later, I saw myself standing on the front of my father who's sleeping in a hospital's bed, I cried because of regrets, I was desperately praying, and hoping for his recovery, he stayed at the hospital and when I was about to go home that day, my brother spoke to me, “He was vomiting and he asked for help the day you left the house, luckily, I came home early when I already finished charging my phone” he said, “the doctor explained to mom, papa had a severe disease and he had been hiding this from us for a long time, and“ he paused, “and he is dying” I was shocked, I couldn't move. It was a horror for me. Papa had been staying at 3 days in the Talisay District, it was already December 31, 2021. He was becoming weaker and sometimes he had a hard time to breathe, we really don't knew what do, specially mom. Yet, I wasn't even thinking negative, I was really optimistic that day, later that afternoon, my father asked mom to took care about the bill so we could get out in the hospital, at first we were hesitant but papa was crying, “I didn't want to die here, ma” he said with a broken voice. We got my papa out already, but we can't let him stayed our home since it was damaged, so I did called his brother who is currently living at Tunghaan, Minglanilla.
When his brother arrived, we got him in the taxi, we were all in the taxi and I was silently praying, again. Suddenly papa spoke “We should celebrate new year” he said with a smiling face then he path my head. I was over the moon, I couldn't stopped crying, despite of the situation, my Papa was really thinking a positive thoughts. “Of course, pa. We should celebrate a happy New Year“ I said. He just smiled at me, minutes later I looked at my papa and my heart was cut into a pieces he was crying again. We were about to get to his brother's house then suddenly he lean on my mama's shoulder and cried, the taxi driver panicked and I was too, I called him, again. “Please save my father, please I'm begging, please“ I said silently. The driver made a u-turn, we rushed the nearest emergency hospital at Minglanilla. The last thing I remembered I was devastated, my world stops, I couldn't move again, my tears flowing like a river, my heart was beating loudly, I couldn't hear what's the doctor said, I was sweating bullets, my hands are cold as ice, and I said, “No, I trusted him.”

Your device could be at high risk from 'one of most serious' cyber security threats 02/18
Microsoft has warned that hackers are exploiting a crucial vulnerability in the software used by large tech companies around the globe. They are associated with the governments of China and North Korea, Iran, North Korea, and Turkey. So far, foreign hacking groups appear to have experimented with the vulnerability, which is found in Java-based software known as "Log4j" which organizations across the globe use to track information in their applications. A top US cybersecurity official said they do not have evidence that federal networks were compromised by the vulnerability. The Log4j flaw could impact the majority of the internet. Apple's cloud computing service and security firm Cloudflare and Minecraft one of the world's most popular video games, all run Log4j according to research.
3. Make it better

Klobuchar: Manchin 'still at the negotiating table' over Build Back Better -- full interview at 09:05
The movement on the Build Back Better Bill The $1.75 trillion climate and economic package that serves as one of the cornerstones of President Joe Biden's legislative agenda, has likely stalled until next year. Biden and Democrats were hoping to get the bill passed before the end of the year, however talks between Biden and Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, a critical swing vote, haven't resulted in a resolution. One of the most crucial issues that has been preventing progress is the child tax credit. Biden has made it his top priority since it provides aid to families and aids in reducing child poverty. Manchin wants it to be taken out of the bill. Even even if Biden & Manchin were to agree to the bill, it must be approved and finalized before it can be considered for a vote.
4. Condo collapse

A Miami-Dade grand jury that was in charge of the Surfside condo collapse that killed 98 in June has released a report outlining ways to avoid another tragedy. The report suggests that more inspectors, staff, and funds to find unsafe buildings and improve the standards for inspectors. The panel also recommended that the process of certifying residential properties should be initiated much earlier than 40 years after it is constructed. The engineering company selected to assist with the Surfside condo's 40-year recertification in 2018 had identified "deep" concrete deterioration however, they were unable to make repairs due to structural stability concerns. While it wasn't their responsibility to uncover what caused the deadly collapse however, the grand jury noted that, nearly six months later, the investigators still don't know the exact cause of the collapse. it occurred.
5. Extreme weather

This is a viewpoint editorial by Dustin Watchman, creator of the bitcoin neighborhood instructional group Cloud 21 Siargo. What if we could recreate the components of a huge city that all of us enjoy however on a much smaller sized scale? What would those aspects be that we would look for to duplicate? For much of history, cities have actually been locations that offer chance, hope and connection to others. Cities intended to combine the very best and the brightest to strive and develop things the world requires. Along came El Zonte, much better understood as Bitcoin Beach A huge paradigm shift happened and positioned the concern: "What if we could offer chance, hope, and connection to others by developing education and understanding around bitcoin in smaller sized neighborhoods?" And, easily, the concept has actually spread out around the world. El Zonte was not just the neighborhood that influenced President Nayib Bukele to picture the very first bitcoin legal tender nation, however they have actually motivated numerous smaller sized neighborhoods by their vision and success in execution. We can now see bitcoin influenced neighborhoods being developed from the ground up with Bitcoin Ekasi in South Africa, BTC Beach Camp in Thailand, Bitcoin Lisboa in Portugal, Harlem Bitcoin in New York and a lot more! The common measure in all these neighborhoods is the bitcoin teachers happy to relentlessly devote their time to informing their surrounding neighborhoods. Due to the fact that of the lockdowns and COVID-19 constraints of the previous couple of years, individuals have actually looked for a function and for numerous this function was discovered by constructing bitcoin neighborhoods in their own yards. The expect a much better future stemmed from bitcoin has actually led numerous to make favorable modifications in their own way of lives and to contribute more in returning through neighborhood development efforts. One such task is called Cloud 21 Siargao on a little island on the southeastern side of the Philippines. It is a stunning and up and coming island that for several years privately held a concealed gem of a browse area called Cloud 9, thus approval to this legendary browse area with the name Cloud 21 Siargao. In December of 2021, the island was damaged by the enormously damaging Super Typhoon Odette For the very first couple of months after the damage, the restoring was sluggish. Materials were tough to come by and there was particles all over. Simply put, chance and hope was near a perpetuity low, and this is where bitcoin normally prospers. Quick forward to about 9 months after the storm and the regional neighborhoods are buzzing with energy as companies have actually resumed and tourist was rapidly putting back to the island. With this assault of development and tourist, the understanding of bitcoin started to rapidly grow along with it. Cloud 21 Siargao set out to help regional small companies in discovering how they can accept bitcoin as payments to drive more development in tourist, comparable to what El Zonte has actually done the previous couple of years. Through Twitter Spaces hosted by Paxful and Global Bitcoin Fest, we had the ability to team up on typically discovered problems in concerns to bitcoin adoption in Southeast Asia with bitcoiners in these areas. Through these talks, I formed my method to additional informing about bitcoin to get rid of a few of these typical obstacles. The biggest obstacle is most likely the gaming mindset that lots of people have in these areas. It's sort of an all-or-nothing mindset that they simply go all in instead of taking a more moderate method of gradually including bitcoin into their lives for long term wealth structure techniques. More challenges to bitcoin adoption here appertains education on what sets bitcoin apart from the other 20,000- plus altcoins, and likewise simply basic brand name acknowledgment of bitcoin as a whole. These are the bottom lines Cloud 21 Siargao has actually set out to deal with.
For individuals that do not frequently preserve much cost savings, going all in might possibly get them rekt, pressing them to never ever completely take advantage of bitcoin. The best requirement for small companies here is that they still require pesos for day-to-day costs, however are open to the included advantages of transforming simply a percentage into satoshis. Gradually dipping their toes into the bitcoin waters is most likely to get them to see the prospective as we gradually move from the 2022 bearish market towards a booming market. In your area in the Philippines, they do have a digital money app called G-cash that they recognize with and the Pouch App (a Lightning app) has comparable functions, however provides the extra included advantage of transforming a few of their pesos into satoshis. Essentially leveraging their previous understanding of digital cash apps, residents can now start to securely advance their education about bitcoin by really holding some. To take on these problems of brand name acknowledgment, correct education about bitcoin's distinct qualities and how to appropriately utilize and protect bitcoin, Cloud 21 Siargao has actually released a multi-prong project. Through social networks, I connect to all the regional small companies to let them understand they can utilize Cloud 21 Siargao as their go-to for any bitcoin associated education. Numerous company owner have actually asked excellent concerns and are actively checking out accepting it quickly. I have actually likewise started neighborhood art tasks that include enhancing various concrete walls around the town with Bitcoin themed murals. In any little neighborhood, track record is likewise rather essential, for that reason in fact consulting with a number of the owners and clients face to face frequently produces the best conversations and possible adoption. There are presently a handful of Bitcoiners living in Siargao, and they have actually supplied excellent feedback on the localized concerns to bitcoin adoption. Offering with regional NGOs has actually likewise supplied worthwhile lead to assisting companies that focus on a great deal of fundraising comprehend how bitcoin can help them because drive. Talking with regional federal government authorities and opening conversations about how their social programs that typically supply a little earnings for residents in requirement of monetary help can likewise benefit from bitcoin payments. Building a little bitcoin neighborhood from the ground up will just continue to grow if the correct resources are attended to more education. As Siargao continues its course towards being the next Bali and a digital wanderer center, residents and expats will continue to reoccur. The secret to preserving sustainable advancement while constructing a bitcoin neighborhood is that the resources remain on island for all to gain access to and usage as required far into the future. Passing the torch of understanding on to residents is required, so they themselves can stand and be neighborhood leaders continuing to teach their next-door neighbors and pals on bitcoin is what will eventually press the bitcoin neighborhood beyond the residents and expats that reoccur like the seasonal tides. In action to this requirement I have actually composed numerous books talking about how to utilize bitcoin within your family, on a neighborhood level and why small companies need to begin quicker than later on in providing bitcoin payments. The last book concerning publication is a neighborhood leaders direct book that brand-new bitcoin teachers can utilize as their go to resource for education others far into the future. These books can be discovered at the Cloud21 Siargao.com site. Siargao has a lot capacity to be the best mix of Bali and El Zonte, and I personally anticipate inviting far more bitcoin tourist here as bitcoin adoption grows!
