drunk headcanons pt2

Can I get that 'tron, can I get that remy, can I get that coke, can I get that Henny? Bottoms up, bottoms up! These are headcanons for Itadori, Fushiguro, Yuta, Inumaki and Aoi Todo, and of course they’re all aged up 18+ because even though I did it you shouldn’t drink underage!

Inumaki

Hates the taste of liquor with a vengeance, his drink has to be mixed really really well because he doesn’t want to taste it at all lol

Shots with Inumaki are immediately followed with a chaser, most of the time pineapple juice and he always pulls a face at the taste

A few notches above a lightweight, I’d say four decently strong drinks and he’s hammered

Drunk Inumaki just wants to have fun with the girls and gays, take him to a gay club he will dance his fucking ass off to some Lady Gaga

He’s also pretty good at acting like he’s sober if he needs to, but don’t expect it to last long lol

I think his favorite drink would be an AMF with lots of ice and lemon

Fushiguro(I have already done little mini headcanons so excuse some repeats lol)

He drinks only dark liquor, light liquor has to be mixed for him to drink it and even then he won’t immediately fall for it. But he will not!!! Drink beer.

Is good about sticking to one drink for the whole night, if he’s having rum that’s his choice for the night

Gets sleepy when he drinks, if he’s properly smashed he’ll be lightly dozing off in the corner, if he’s at a house party you’ll definitely find him passed out in the bathtub

Is also brutally honest when he drinks, if he doesn’t like someone or something he’s not afraid to say it with no tact

Rambles on and on about some topic he has no idea about but the words just keep coming out like vomit

Speaking of vomit his stomach is strong so don’t expect to see him hunched over the toilet after a night out, he will lay in complete darkness and silence though

Yuta

He also hates the taste of liquor but is fond of light beer, can drink a case of light beer by himself if you let him

Yuta has two moods with liquor: oh no I’m sober tonight, you have fun! vs I’m going to drink so much I not only blackout but I will transcend to another plane of existence entirely, one where I am an alcohol wielding god that is worshipped and feared by the mortals beneath my feet. Choose your fighter!

If he’s at a house party or a rowdy function he can and will crush beer cans with his forehead and ride a shopping cart down a steep hill into a busy intersection with traffic

If it’s just a few friends together or if the two of you are drinking at home, he’ll follow you around like a puppy with a drunken dopey smile, he won’t speak to you but he wants to be close ‘just in case you need anything’

Surprisingly doesn’t get massive headaches or anything after drinking, his stomach is upset but as long as he takes a few hours after he wakes up to settle in then he’s relatively fine - but he won’t pass up on some hangover soup!

He insists on kissing the homies goodnight after a night out lol everyone gets a smooch from Yuta before leaving

Todo

The perfect himbo loves beer of all kind, but prefers when its in a glass bottle or one of them big ass beer mugs as opposed to a can

Knows quite a lot about different liquor, he’s totally the kind to try and make his own too!

Is not shy to order a super fruity cocktail or a margarita special at a bar and ya know what you can drink whatever you want when no one can kick your ass lol

Is it possible for his monkey brain to revert even further back? He’s a lizard brain when he drinks all he knows is drinking fun do more drinking

His party trick is being able to balance an obscene amount of martini glasses on his forehead

Verrryyyy cuddly after a night of drinking! Will literally start sobbing if you leave the bed after he’s come home from drinking even if you tell him you just have to pee!

Itadori

He is the KING of pregaming before the club, he always has the best playlists, mixes the drinks well and gets everyone hype asf for the club!

Mixes his liquor and has no problem with it, as long as it’s got a high enough percentage he’s drinking it

Has a decent alcohol tolerance, might have a slight intolerance though so at the end of the night his nose is stuffed and he’s out of breath just from walking to his front door from the uber

He and Todo are a dangerous combination when drunk, you never know what they’ll do next! Itadori might have to be on a leash when he drinks lol

Is also cuddly asf but his intentions aren’t pure, if he’s cuddling you on his lap he’s definitely trying to grind you on his cock even if he’s got fucking whisky dick. And even if he’s blackout stumbling drunk he’ll try to initiate sex as he passes out on the bed

Drunk texts! It’s mostly long keyboard smashes or voice notes of him grumbling and babbling like an idiot like he thinks he’s actually saying something that makes sense

January Jewels 2020

I’ve purposely put off writing this monthly wrap-up because, well, christ. January was a terrible month. I don’t need to go into the details of why, but the consensus from everyone that I’ve talked to fully agrees with me on this. What the hell happened? Starting a new decade is supposed to be great. In any case, I’ll always have high hopes for the future. And I’m just thankful to begin a new month. Here’s what went down in the pit that was January 2020.

First things first, I recapped how my 2019 resolutions turned out. Why don’t more people do this? Where’s the accountability in reviewing your past resolutions? They’re not fucking birthday wishes, they’re intentions! More people need to follow through with this, even if the results aren’t what you hoped for.

I made my 2020 resolutions.

I fell absolutely in love with this sketch.

I did two podcasts with Nathan - one where we talked about the pope incident and one where I absolutely scream at him about Hillary.

I read Jenny Slate’s new book as well as a tiny little book about how to live a good life.

I ended up buying another J. Crew swimsuit (the same one I bought a few months ago, but this time in red) and I have no regrets.

In love with Trader Joe’s (dairy free) coconut whipped cream, I can’t stop using it in hot chocolate.

I rewatched (or watched for the first time, I truly can’t remember) The Staircase and it’s so good. I’m pretty sure Marla got me MP3 copies of this years ago and I did watch it, but I completely forgot about it in detail. Such a good watch. If you’ve already seen it, do you know about the owl theory? It’s a wild one, but, like, I think an owl did it now?

I’ve been using a small bottle of OUAI’s Wave Spray and if I can figure out how to not overspray it, it’s a great product. Once you use it though, your hair only looks good that day. After you sleep on it, your hair looks like shit. (Is that true of all hair products? I have absolutely no idea.)

Bought this Banana Republic top for $13 on sale and I love it because it does not feel like it cost so little.

I don’t know if it’s a Canadian brand but I have found a wicked alternative to Dollarama: Buck or Two. I went to one in Brampton and they’ve got everything.

I watched most of the SNL with Jennifer Lopez and wow did it suck. 99% of the sketches were basically “She’s pretty. That’s the joke.” Fucking hated it. They do this a lot of the time with certain actresses and I can’t ever tell if it’s because the actress loves doing these sketches or they’re afraid she can’t be funny. Whatever the reason is, blow my brains out, please.

I went to the Ear Inn in the city and it was lovely! Super old place. Service was great. Burger was great.

I went to Glossier with the intention of buying the cheek stain and then decided against it. It’s not a good product. I literally pinched my cheeks and got a better rosiness.

I came across probably my favourite winter children’s book of all time, The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. Look at one page of this magic.

I was so happy to hear about this matter finally being settled in New York.

I went to The Dutch again for Restaurant Week for their steak tartare and it’s just heaven on a plate.

I rewatched the great What Lies Beneath and man, it’s still just such a great movie.

As you may have heard, Papyrus is going out of business, so I’ve popped in twice to see what the closing deals are and they aren’t worth it yet (only 30% off! C’mon! I won’t get out of bed for at least 60%), so I’ll keep stopping in every so often until they’ve become desperate.

I finally went to Boulud Sud for their pasta happy hour and man was it not worth it. The place has a terrible setup if you’re sitting at the bar, the food was absolutely nothing special and had ridiculous portion sizes. It’s also a bad sign when the bread is tastier than the entree. Super disappointing.

I tried on the bras and underwear from LIVELY in Soho and even though it’s priced reasonably, I couldn’t find anything I loved. I have a feeling that I could be into it though, so I’ll go again sometime in the future for sure.

I’ll forever love the lunch special at Pil Pil on the Upper East Side. I know I probably bring this up too much, but man. Love tapas.

I can’t stop buying sunglasses for sale at ALDO. And I won’t.

I finished season one of The West Wing and it was really good. I keep forgetting about it, but I should stick with it. People, like, loved that show, didn’t they?

I started using Sol De Janeiro’s Bum Bum Cream… on my butt. That’s what it’s for, no? So far, I mean… it feels smooth? It’s not at all greasy, which I like. Seems weird to have a cream just for your butt, but who am I to criticize.

Ate the fish tacos at Summer Salt and they’re good! It’s insane and great that they sell margaritas at a fast casual place, too.

Very into this Pat McGrath mascara that I got as a Sephora reward.

Love this Wells For Boys sketch (below) from a few years ago that I just saw for the first time (thanks for showing me, Irene!)

I haven’t been there in years, but I went to Sweet Afton for happy hour in Astoria the other day and had the pickle martini which actually wasn’t terrible. Love that place.

Tried the lunch burger at Peter Luger finally! And yes it was a good burger (love that they use American cheese and the bun was very good even though it's not a potato bun). Steakhouse burgers are always hard for me to rate since a steakhouse burger is a real *entree* unlike the regular, everyday burgers that other places have which are not as big and overwhelming. An everyday burger is easy to rate since it's either great, overrated or shit. A steakhouse burger has nuances, how juicy is too juicy? How's the quality of the meat? What are the ideal toppings? Should someone shoot me for my extensive burger thoughts? Yes.

I went to see a free orchestral performance put on by Julliard at Lincoln Center and it was great. It reminded me so much of going to my brother Gary’s recitals when I was a kid, just loved it.

Had dinner at Portale. The pasta was insane. This place might be a rival for L’Artusi! Dare I say it! Every bite was phenomenal. MUST return. (Noteworthy: it also just got two stars in the Times.)

LOVED this piece about Ricky Gervais and the Golden Globes. Favourite line: “The least risky thing in the world is announced apathy.“

Maybe you don’t know this, but 90% of post offices in the U.S. have bulletproof glass between the workers and the customers. It’s obviously because awful things have happened, but I’ve been going to this one post office in the city on 23rd street that doesn’t have the glass and the workers are SO MUCH MORE PLEASANT. I wish all locations were like this one. Just a thought.

Just bought another one of these UNIQLO shirts that I love in dark grey.

Every January I make sure to:

Mark down all holidays/birthdays/anniversaries (Valentine’s Day, Daylight Saving Times, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving)

Check expiration dates for passport/license/health card/insurance and write down any important renewal dates

I’ve watched the first two new episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm and it fucking blows. There was only one thing I laughed at (when a server thought Larry was “oggling” her but he was really just keeping an eye on her tray with pigs in blankets) but OTHER THAN THAT, what a piece of shit season so far! I fucking hated the part in one episode where he videotapes the consent given between him and some woman as they’re making out. ALSO, and this has happened a few times over the seasons, he’s recycling fucking Seinfeld jokes. FROM THE SHOW. Talking about when it’s too late to get “Happy New Year-ed”? Are we kidding here?! Fucking lazy as hell. I might just stop watching.

I watched the new Taylor Swift documentary on Netflix and it’s really good. Even if you have zero opinion on her, I really liked it. (It also introduced me to this great song.)

Things that I’m looking forward to this month: seeing a Raptors game at Barclays Center, finally sitting down and watching season two of Shrill in its entirety, reading Joan Rivers’ book Enter Talking and and maybe going to another Restaurant Week lunch before the end date. February, please oh please don’t be as terrible as January.

The 15 Best Drinks-Focused TV Shows — and What to Sip While Watching

Binge-watching a favorite television show is a universal hobby, and that was true even before the pandemic. While we wouldn’t recommend binge drinking while doing so, pairing a can’t-miss series with a must-have drink is a natural combination. With moderation in mind, of course.

As it happens, many of the best television shows of all time are also the booziest. We’ve seen everything cross our screens at this point, from iconic television bars to cartoon characters who would handily drink anyone under the table — and even entire drink revolutions spawned by popular shows. The Cosmo, anybody?

Pull up your streaming service, find your favorite show below, and get ready to pop open a bottle or mix up some cocktails with these perfect TV-drink pairings.

15. ‘Succession’

Viewers of “Succession” were likely introduced to the idea of “hyper-decanting” (read: blending, as in, with a blender) your wine prior to serving. But beyond that questionable idea, the show has plenty to offer. “We think ‘Succession’ is the best show television has seen in a long time — from the acting, script, and the epic music, it’s a winning combination,” says Joseph Mintz, co-founder with Amanda Victoria of Siponey canned cocktails.

“Amanda is a huge fan of Scottish actor Brian Cox, who plays Logan Roy, and I would love to share a dram with Mr. Cox,” Mintz says. Not a bad idea, considering that Cox enjoys enduring internet fame for the video pronunciation guides for Scotch brands he made with Esquire. Pair with a hard-to-pronounce single-malt Scotch — only the best for the Roys!

14. ‘Dead to Me’

The Liz Feldman-produced dark comedy has gone through two seasons thus far, with a third en route. And while many shows have unofficial drinking games, “Dead to Me” and Netflix posted an official one before Season 2 dropped this spring. Highlights include drinking twice if someone drinks on screen, or finishing your drink if “Karen almost ruins everything” (trust us, it happens).

Wine is very much what’s being glugged on screen, though you’ll find a cast of characters willing to open a bottle of just about anything on this show. But for a pairing, go with a gluggable red or an orange wine, which gets name-dropped in the first episode of Season 2 by way of a sub-Reddit about menopause.

13. ‘BoJack Horseman’

Everything you need to know about “BoJack Horseman” the show, and BoJack Horseman the, uh, horse man, can be summed up with a scene where he’s looking for a drink to forget his problems, gets served vodka, and taunts the bartender in response, “What is this, breakfast?” For Ben Rojo, brand ambassador for Don Papa Rum, such a scene encapsulates the show’s ethos. “’BoJack Horseman’ is my favorite show of all time! It’s such an honest and human depiction of depression, through the lens of a giant cartoon horse-person,” he says.

For Rojo, the ongoing theme that setbacks are not the opposite of progress is a highlight, and one of the best reasons to watch. “The characters’ sublimation of trauma through substances is a little on the nose,” he says, “but there’s something oddly gratifying about watching Princess Carolyn down a bottle of ‘Catbernet’ after a rough day while sitting on your couch and doing the same.” “Catbernet” it is, though Cabernet will do in a pinch. Just don’t try to go drink-for-drink with BoJack.

12. ‘Entourage’

“Entourage” was either the show you loved or the show you loved to hate. But either way, you probably watched. And the freewheeling, big-spending lifestyle certainly lends itself to some fun drink pairings.

“So, with ‘Entourage,’ there’s one guy making all the money and a bunch of other people orbiting him and starting shenanigans; it’s like Seinfeld only everyone is super hot, and like all my favorite trash TV, it’s easy to get hooked whether you want to or not,” says Erica Long of Sourced Craft Cocktails.

She suggests going just as big as the characters might. “Watching ‘Entourage’ screams an occasion to be a little over the top to me and that means bubbles,” Long says. “A bottle of Moët and a bottle of Dom because Vinnie Chase would never pick just one.”

11. ‘The Simpsons’

“The Simpsons” doesn’t pull many punches with its social commentary, and the world of drinking is taken head on, too. Barney Gumble is the poster boy for a love of drink gone wrong, as is Duff for the ubiquitous big-brand beer that will sacrifice all for more profits. We’ve heard there are one or two scenes where Homer indulges in a few of the beers himself.

Then there’s Moe Szyslak and his eponymous Moe’s, a neighborhood dive if there ever was one. Until, that is, the smash success of the Flaming Moe, a drink Moe stole from Homer. Duh duh duh. If you’re feeling fancy (and have a fire extinguisher handy, just in case) make a flaming cocktail and you’ll feel like you’re right there at Flaming Moe’s, too. Otherwise, channel your inner Duff with Schlitz or Natty Boh.

10. ‘Archer’

If James Bond drank even more than he already does, followed even fewer rules, and generally caused even more mayhem, the result would be Archer, Sterling Archer. The title character of the show by the same name is famous for his one-liners, and none more so than, “All I’ve had today is, like, six gummy bears and some Scotch.” The man enjoys himself a drink or 12.

In the show’s world, Glengoolie is Archer’s Scotch of choice, a drink known as being “for the best of times.” At other times, though, Archer lambastes the use of sour mix in a Margarita, and praises the virtues of the Bloody Mary, saying: “Forget the glass, Woodhouse, just give me the pitcher. For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry god. Bloody Mary, full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now, at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon.”

You have plenty of options, clearly, for your drink of choice while watching. Of course, if you want the evening to be the best of times, Scotch is the way to go.

9. ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

Pull me a pint at Paddy’s Pub and I’ll be a happy man. Just don’t make me do any Charlie work for the privilege.

“’It’s Always Sunny’ is the greatest show in general but drinking might help you get on the gang’s level a little easier,” says Nick Sadowski, distiller at Philadelphia Distilling. “The show comments on every hot topic in society, usually with some part of the gang taking one side and the other taking the other side.” The show is edgy, delving into controversial conversations that others might steer away from. What makes it work is that the characters have these un-P.C. conversations in a way that showcases their ignorance and obliviousness to the rest of society. “All the jokes are ultimately on them — with them or without them realizing it — and it’s the reason they’re still making the show 15 years later.”

Sadowski says he doesn’t want you to overthink your pairings here. “Rip some shots and drink a Coors or Hamm’s, or whatever you can find, bud,” he suggests. “Eat some rum ham and a hard-boiled egg while you’re at it.”

8. ‘Game of Thrones’

Raise your hand if you own an “I drink and I know things” T-shirt. There’s a few of you, at least. Meanwhile, in Westeros, the only thing more common than a dead royal is a dead royal who liked to drink too much. Siblings Tyrion and Cersei Lannister enjoyed more than their fair share, as did, of course, Robert Baratheon. But few characters didn’t imbibe heavily in the show, and who could blame them? Living in a world rife with betrayal and back stabbings, murders and coups, dragons and White Walkers and … yeah, that Dornish red looks pretty appetizing.

With the popularity of the show and its penchant for booze, some official options for your pairing pleasure were made available, including partnerships with Ommegang beer and Johnnie Walker Scotch. When you don’t want to go corporate, though, just fill up a beer stein with the strongest suds you can find — all the better if you opt for an old-school barleywine or mead.

7. ‘Futurama’

In the “Futurama” universe, robots must heartily consume alcohol as fuel, and the underpinnings of that metaphor are fairly clear. “Looking at Bender as a character representing the ‘working class everyman’ it’s easy to see why he’s literally fueled by alcohol,” says Sother Teague, beverage director of New York’s Amor y Amargo. “For him, it’s an absolute necessity to perform optimally. For us, it’s often a crutch to help cope with the things we either can’t change, disagree with, or don’t understand. Obviously this is an exaggerated characterization but one worthy of a little navel gazing.”

Even so, there’s room for bartenders in the show. “It’s also comforting to think that the role of bartender is still a valuable member of future society as portrayed by iZac, a parody of the beloved ’70s era barman of TV’s ‘Love Boat,’” Teague says. He’s going everyman with his suggestions, too, calling for you to find your favorite lawnmower beer, or what he prefers to call hammock beer, more properly fitting how he’d partake. “And on the side, Jägermeister! Plus, there’s a scene where iZac pours Jäger.”

6. ‘Absolutely Fabulous’

For Aubrey Slater, a bartender who’s worked at many New York bars over a 25-year career, British sitcom “Ab Fab” is the perfect call back to the neon-tinged ’90s, when “the economy was great, everyone had money to spend,” she says. “I was also a go-go dancer at Limelight and Palladium, and had a lot of friends in the vogue-ball houses. One of them introduced me to “Absolutely Fabulous”!

Slater describes the characters as icons who epitomized the decade as independent businesswomen, who were also fashionistas and party girls. “They had a frosted glass double-door refrigerator constantly stocked with Veuve and Bollinger, and they drank Stoli Martinis like water,” she says. As a perfect pairing, Slater recommends the Stoli-Bolli, a tall glass of Stolichnaya on the rocks topped with the Bollinger Champagne, which was created on the show.

5. ‘Billions’

In “Billions,” the only thing more important than having entirely way too much money is ensuring that the world knows it. Then there are a few subplots, like achieving those perfect moments of comeuppance, and planning new ways to screw over your rivals.

Both Bobby Axelrod and his cohorts, as well as Chuck Rhoades, know their way around a bar. Most typically, a whiskey bar, stocked with absurdly expensive bottles like Michter’s Celebration, or highly touted imports such as Kavalan. By all means, feel free to join in with a bottle of either. Or, just grab your favorite special-occasion whiskey from the shelf and pour yourself a dram of that.

4. ‘Sex and The City’

“Sex and the City” launched the Cosmopolitan to stratospheric heights, of course leading to its inevitable crash back to Earth. The Toby Cecchini-created drink is now often wrongly derided as a symbol of the darker years of cocktailing (when Appletinis and Long Island Iced Teas were the most interesting cocktails you could find).

Of course, there’s more to it than that. “’Sex and the City’ is the ultimate grab-your-girlfriends, veg-out-on-the-couch, and finish- off-your-favorite-bottle-of-booze show,” says Effie Panagopoulos, founder of KLEOS Mastiha. “That show was directly responsible for a huge increase in Cointreau sales in the ’90s, since it was a love letter to the Cosmopolitan and the city it was created in, New York.” For a classic combo, pair a “SATC” viewing session with a Cosmopolitan.

3. ‘Mad Men’

Ah, the good ol’ days of corporate life, when the two-Martini lunch wasn’t merely acceptable, but expected. From costume to set design, “what I loved most about ‘Mad Men’ was how incredibly detailed and on point every aspect of the show was,” says Alex Jump, head bartender at Death & Co Denver. “Of course, as a bartender, too, I appreciate how much attention they paid to the drinking trends and fads of the time, from how vodka was perceived, to Heineken’s role as a newer beer in the U.S. market.”

The bottle of whiskey at the desk channels Don Draper better than anything, and points us to the best show drink pairing. “Of course, I mostly drank whiskey while watching the show, particularly American whiskey for me,” Jump says. “I wasn’t trying to keep up with the guys on ‘Mad Men’ though, so sometimes I’d even enjoy mine as a Highball rather than slammed back in one quick gulp.” A modern solution!

2. ‘Scandal’

“Scandal’s” Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, lives a very stressful life, putting out one political fire after another. And in times of need, wine is her friend indeed.

Crystal Sykes, a cocktail and culture writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, says she thinks about “Scandal” every time she writes a story with a personal element. “There’s no Black woman alive who hasn’t felt gutted by being a superwoman placed in the shadows,” she says. “So, whenever Olivia Pope, at the brink of mental and emotional collapse, took solace in a glass — or bottle — of Bordeaux, I could almost swear it was cascading down my own throat as she gulped it down. And so did my homegirls.”

Sykes says that “Scandal” gave her friend group a reason to meet up on Thursday nights. “[We’d] drink wine and talk about how no matter how hard it may be to be a Black woman in today’s world, we’ll always be standing in the sun together,” Sykes says. A bottle of Bordeaux it is, then.

1. ‘Cheers’

“Cheers” depicts the platonic ideal of the neighborhood bar, the local, the “third place.” Sometimes — and we cannot stress this enough — you really do want to go where everybody knows your name.

“’Cheers’ is the ultimate drinking show because, well, it’s entirely set in a bar!” says Paul Hletko, founder of FEW Spirits. “It’s a caricature of bar tropes, sure, but the characters are all lovable but flawed, and, to a large extent, ‘Cheers’ was my first view into ‘bar life’ as a youngster unable to go to bars.”

Surely, this is no time nor place for a craft cocktail. No sir. “I would drink old-school for ‘Cheers,’ with a shot of FEW Spirits Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a High Life,” Hletko says. Beer and a shot sounds about right.

Raising the Bar: Twist Toasts 25th Anniversary

In the nightclub industry, it’s rare to find a venue celebrating five years in business, let alone 25. But Twist will be doing just that on Wednesday, June 27. Owners Richard Trainor and Joel Stedman have assured me that this will be a party for the ages.

“In our wildest dreams, we never thought Twist would go 25 years,” says Trainor. “It’s been an extreme honor to be part of this community for so very long. We could have never done it without our amazing crew. But of course, we owe everything to our fantastic guests, who join us day after day, night after night from around the world. May the lights never go dim, let’s keep the party going forever.”

It sounds like the anniversary blowout this week will make a good start on that goal. Complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be flowing when the doors open at 9pm. The first 200 guests will also receive a special 25th-anniversary DVD, mixed and produced by everyone’s favorite Twist VJ, Nathan P. Smith. Collectors’ items!

The evening will also feature special performances by many of the stars who have made Twist so successful over the last quarter century. Resident DJ Sushiman will provide the music for the evening, and there will be shows by the infamous TP Lords in the main room. Downstairs in the Latin Room, Josefina and cast will be bringing the laughs with La Fiesta de la Croqueta Comedy Show.

But not all the stars will be on stage Wednesday night. “We’ve always thought that no matter who you hire as entertainment, it’s really the bartenders that are some of your biggest stars,” says Stedman.

“Nathan has been with us nearly 20 years and Mario more than 10. This is a classy team that brings it every night they work. Derek started out as a bar back when I was bartending many years ago, and we’ve been working together ever since. Derek and relative newcomer David create a unique team that keeps their guests giggling all night. Aquiles started very young and has grown into a real star. Antonio and Aquiles have made a sensational team in the Bar 5 Latin Room that has proven to be super popular. We celebrate all of our great teams of bartenders that make it happen night after night.”

We sat down with a few of these superstars behind the bars.

David and Derek behind the bar

David, Cocktail Bar

What’s it been like working with Derek all these years?

Derek’s greatest quality is that he is genuine. Definitely one of a kind. I’m happy to work alongside him each week. He’s been an amazing friend.

How did you get your bartending job?

I applied at an open casting and was chosen out of many applicants. I got lucky.

How long have you been there?

Nearly seven years now.

What’s the best thing about working at Twist?

My favorite part of the job is meeting so many different people from all over. And having a family relationship with my coworkers.

Tell us something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I’m a geek but not a nerd.

Your bar is now smoke-free after 10pm. How’s that going?

Personally, it’s amazing. I’ll probably live longer. I think most people expect a nonsmoking environment. Since our bar is in the first room you enter at Twist and it’s nonsmoking, people don’t think twice about it. Twist has a place for everyone.

What’s your favorite drink to make and why?

Martinis are my favorite because you gotta put your hips into it when you shake. A perfect pour makes for bragging rights and smiles all around.

What’s the best pick-up line you’ve heard across the bar?

My favorite is, “Are you from Tennessee? Because you’re the only 10 I see!”

Derek, Cocktail Bar

How long have you worked alongside David?

Nearly five years now.

What’s that been like?

It’s been a blast. We get along so well. We have a lot of fun and we take care of each other. We’ve got each other’s back.

How did you get your bartending job?

One of our managers, John Roberts, was a friend of mine. He introduced me to Joel, who was bartending at the time, and I met Richard Trainor.

What’s the best thing about working at Twist?

The feeling of family among the staff — and getting to meet new people from around the world. I love working here!

What’s your favorite drink to make and why?

I love making Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, Long Island Ice Teas, Cape Cods, Cube Libres, and Margaritas. And opening bottles of beer!

What’s the best pick-up line you’ve heard across the bar?

So many pick-up lines! “Is your momma a chicken? Because you’re eggcellent.” “Are you sure you’re not a parking ticket? Because you’ve got fine written all over you.”

I like the funny ones that make me laugh. The really good ones will even give me the giggles when I think about them later.

How long have you worked alongside Mario?

Almost a decade. He did move to New York for three years, but we never stopped communicating so I never really count that time apart.

What’s working with him been like?

It’s been great. There’s nothing like forming a true friendship at work and having that relationship flourish outside of work as well. When Mario and I are together behind the bar, we work really well together. And at the end of our shift, we have the best time joking and letting go of all the stress.

How long have you been at Twist?

I’ve worked here for 18 years as of June 16.

What’s the best part of working there?

I’ve grown up here. Literally. And Richard Trainor has guided me in work and in life. Honestly, he’s been one of my main supports, and that makes Twist feel like my second home. I am a very lucky man to be able to say that.

Tell us something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I’m a homebody, I live for my three Italian Greyhounds and my cat. Most people believe bartenders are wild and crazy people, but I’m the complete opposite.

What’s your favorite drink to make and why?

My favorite drink to make — and I know my fellow bartenders will not agree — is a Mojito. I love sweet drinks, and I make a killer Loaded Mojito. It goes down smooth but has a kick to it.

What’s the best pick-up line you have heard across the bar?

I have yet to hear a good pick-up line. I think when a true connection is made a pick-up line is not necessary.

How did you get your bartending job at Twist?

A friend introduced me to the general manager and, as they say, the rest was history.

How long have you been there?

I’ve been working for Twist 11 years.

What’s the best thing about working there?

The best part is all the great people I’ve met. I’ve made some of my best friends while here.

What’s your favorite drink to make and why?

A Lemon Drop: raspberry, blueberry, or good, old regular. They taste so good and they hit the spot. My customers seem to really love them.

What’s the best pick-up line you’ve heard across the bar?

A customer once told me he lost his keys and left his phone and wallet in the car. He said he lived 30 minutes away, and he asked if he could stay at my place until his brother woke up to bring him his spare key in the morning. [Laughs.] By closing time, he had miraculously found his keys.

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened on the job?

A friend came down to visit, a friend who said he could hold his liquor. I told him I thought he was overdoing it a bit, but he didn’t listen. He quickly went from fine to throwing up all over himself. And he made it worse by using his hands to try and hold it in.

Later, he said it was because he just had a big dinner and ate too much — and “the Fireball shots reacted to it.” [Laughs.] I think he learned his lesson.

How did you get your bartending job at Twist?

I didn’t at first. My first attempt I was only 20 years old, so I had to wait till I was of age to be reconsidered. That’s when I went back for a second interview. I met with Richard and Joel and, despite my lack of experience, they decided to give me the opportunity and train me for two weeks in order to decide if I was qualified for the job.

How long have you been there?

Twelve years.

What’s the best part of working at Twist?

The diverse crowd of people from all over the world. And the staff also makes it great. Everyone gets along, giving it a fun and natural everyday flow.

Tell us something people would be surprised to find out about you?

I collect action figures.

What’s your favorite drink to make and why?

Long Islands. They take longer to make than a simple drink. But they require some craft, so making them can be entertaining for both bartender and customer.

What’s the best pick-up line you’ve heard across the bar?

“Are you tired? ’Cause you’ve been running through my mind all day.”

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened on the job?

Watching Katy Perry go around the entire club giving away beers to customers was pretty funny. And somehow surreal.
