A sight too often seen in New York: a non-profit building being razed to make way for another office building, September 16, 1949. The 77-year old St. Nicholas Church, of the city's Collegiate Dutch Reformed denomination, was at Fifth Avenue and 48th St.

Autumn 🍂 has come to Znojmo, South Moravia, CZ.
“The lighting was that of dark, autumnal clouds. The light of the dimmed sun was scatteredly reflected from one or another stained-glass window on the south-east side of the square. Since everything was executed in life size and without the smallest false detail, the fact that some of the casement windows were blown open and shut by the slight breeze without a sound because of the great height of the houses, made an overwhelming impression.”

Split
The second largest city in Croatia, Split offers a wonderful mix of the old and the new, and is a good base for exploring the region. The heart of the tourist part of the city is the old town, which has grown from Diocletian’s Palace, built for the Roman emperor of the same name, in the 4th century. He was well known for his persecution of Christians, who got their revenge in the fifth century…

Ghost Priest of St. Nicholas Church
Not a lot is known about this photo showing a semi-transparent figure at the altar of the Saint Nicholas Church, Arundel, England. The photo was taken in the 1940s and is believed to have captured the image of a priest in robes, possibly at prayer.
However what is known is that the church does have a few resident spooks including that of a priest who is believed to have killed a local squire (the church was built in the 1300s and the town is overlooked by a castle).
Other ghosts include that of a lady in brown who is seen in the motion of cleaning but disappears when people get too close. She is thought to have been completely devoted to the church and continues her duties even after her death in 1907.
As for the picture it certainly looks like a priestly figure in robes, hands possibly placed on the altar with the head bowed.

In the Liturgical Calendar, today is the Feast of St Nicholas. St Nicholas (Naomh Nioclás) is believed to have been buried in Newtown Jerpoint in Kilkenny some 800 years ago.
According to local Irish legend, St Nicholas is buried in Co Kilkenny. The grave is said to be in the ruined Church of St Nicholas, Jerpoint. The church is all that remains of the medieval village, Newtown Jerpoint, that fell to ruin by the 17th century. The village was surrounded by the Cistercian Jerpoint Abbey, founded in 1183. Located on 1,880 acres, the abbey had its own gardens, watermills,…

Thu 12/1
Had breakfast, then took the Metro to the base of the Prague Castle hill. Climbed up and took photos of the city, then walked around the Castle grounds and around St Vitus Cathedral. Had mulled wine at a Christmas market in the shadow of the Cathedral and took photos of the amazing Cathedral exterior. Then we entered the Cathedral and were struck by the majesty and beauty of the place, especially the 20th century stained glass. Artist Alphonse Mucha of Art Deco fame designed one of the windows. After exiting the Cathedral we hiked back down the hill and to the St Nicholas Church. This church is an exquisite example of Baroque art, with its many incredible statues and gilt everywhere. This contrasts with the very modest organ in the gallery, and it lacks seating for a choir. After leaving the church we headed back to the Charles Bridge, stopping near the Pod Vezi Hotel for more mulled wine to battle the cold. Completed the walk back to our hotel for a rest. After that we set off once again in search of dinner, settling on a place that served Czech and Italian food. Had a very nice meal entertained by a guitar/sax duo, and then walked the final mile of the day back to our hotel. Forecast for the evening was for snow but alas we got no precipitation. It was cold!

St Nicholas Orphanos church, Thessaloniki, built and painted Circa 1310-1320. The first mural is depicting the "Wedding at Cana". Sadly, like in many Christian churches, the murals were plastered over by the conquering Muslim Ottomans, because their religion forbid such imagery. But at least covering the original iconography kept it in good condition.

Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.
The icon of St Nicholas will become a beautiful home decor or a great gift for any believer. This is one of the most venerated saints in the whole Christian world – his mercy, generosity, and kindness are enough to help all the needy, sick, and suffering. You can pray in the presence of his image when you need heavenly protection from temptations and evil.

Saint Nicholas is a patron of children, merchants, innocently convicted, unmarried girls, and sailors. He helps to reconcile with loved ones, heals from sicknesses and addictions, helps to find family happiness and to raise healthy children.
