NASA Photographers Share Their Favorite Photos of the SLS Moon Rocket

NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket is on the launch pad at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida and in final preparations for the Artemis I mission to the Moon. Now that our Moon rocket is almost ready for its debut flight, we wanted to take a look back at some of the most liked photographs of our SLS rocket coming together over the years.

We asked NASA photographers to share their favorite photos of the SLS rocket for Artemis I at different phases of testing, manufacturing, and assembly. Here are their stories behind the photos:

“On this day in March 2018, crews at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, transported the intertank structural test article off NASA’s Pegasus barge to the Load Test Annex test facility for qualification testing.” —Emmett Given, photographer, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center

“This is the liquid oxygen tank structural test article as it was moved from the Pegasus barge to the West Test Area at our Marshall Space Flight Center on July 9, 2019. “The large components of the SLS rocket’s core stage can make you forget that there are many hands-on tasks required to assemble a rocket, too. During the mating of the liquid hydrogen tank to the forward section of the rocket’s 212-foot-tall core stage in May 2019, technicians fastened 360 bolts to the circumference of the rocket. Images like this remind me of all the small parts that have to be installed with care, expertise, and precision to create one huge Moon rocket. During a break in the action at about 5:30 a.m., I was driving my government vehicle to the SSC gas station to fuel up, when I saw the first light breaking in the East and knew it was going to be a nice sunrise. “This was my first time photographing a test at our Stennis Space Center, and I wasn't sure what to expect. “I was in the employee viewing area at Kennedy when the integrated SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft was rolled out to the launchpad for its wet dress rehearsal in March 2022. I really like this photo because the sun is shining on Artemis I like a spotlight. The giant doors of the Vehicle Assembly Building are the red curtain that opened up the stage -- and the spotlight is striking the SLS because it’s the star of the show making its way to the launchpad. I remember thinking how cool that NASA Worm logo looked as well, so I wanted to capture that. It was so big that I had to turn my camera sideways because the lens I had wasn’t big enough to capture the whole thing.” —Brandon Hancock, videographer, SLS Program at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center

“I made this image while SLS and Orion atop the mobile launcher were nearing the end of their four-mile trek to the pad on crawler-transporter 2 ahead of launch. Small groups of employees were filtering in and out of the parking lot by the pad gate to take in the sight of the rocket’s arrival. The “We Are Going!” banner affixed to the gate in the foreground bears the handwritten names of agency employees and contractors who have worked to get the rocket and spacecraft ready for the Artemis I flight test. LaVena Johnson, a determined and ambitious young woman, made the choice to enlist in the military shortly after completing high school in St. Louis County, Missouri, a decision that caused concern for her parents.

On the 18th of July, 2005, at the age of 19, LaVena reached out to her parents with the hopeful news that she would be returning from Iraq in time to spend Christmas at home. Tragically, her journey home was never realised, marking the beginning of one of the most troubling cases of injustice in contemporary history.

Just eight days shy of her 20th birthday, LaVena's lifeless body was discovered in her tent at a military base in Balad, Iraq. She had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, and her death was officially ruled as a suicide. However, disturbing revelations from the autopsy report and photographs painted a different, unsettling picture.

Alongside the gunshot wound, LaVena had a broken nose, bite marks, loose teeth, scratch marks, a black eye, and burns from a corrosive chemical on her genitals. Suspicion arose that the chemical burn might have been an attempt to destroy DNA evidence related to a sexual assault.

LaVena's family and friends vehemently rejected the notion that she would have taken her own life. Standing at just 5'1", LaVena's service weapon was a 40-inch M-16, making it physically implausible for someone of her stature to manipulate the weapon into her mouth for a self-inflicted gunshot. Furthermore, two ballistic experts raised concerns, suggesting that the gunshot wound appeared too small to have been caused by an M-16 and instead resembled the work of a 9mm pistol.

LaVena's family continued to tirelessly pursue justice for their daughter, reaching out to mainstream media outlets for support. CBS sponsored a second autopsy, revealing that LaVena's neck had been broken. More disturbingly, it was discovered that part of her vagina, tongue, and anus had been removed—an alarming detail overlooked by the military's initial autopsy.

Despite the substantial efforts of CBS and ABC in investigating the case, they inexplicably discontinued their coverage. Speculation emerged that the military had intervened, potentially threatening to withdraw advertising support. As it stands, LaVena's death remains officially categorized as a suicide, while her family continues their unwavering fight for justice.

"How do we care for objects and the stories they hold? Artist Maria-Margaretta explores generational relations by considering the ways in which objects are created, kept, and passed down. Her photographic billboard, she makes all things good, reflects on her homelands and ancestral lineage through the transformative power of objects.

The image consists of three objects: an axe centerpiece held by a hand wearing beaded white gloves, placed against a canvas tent. Margaretta collaborated with Joshua Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley to create a sheath for the axe, adorning the object with delicate beadwork as a gift for their young daughter. The axe is a well-used family tool recovered on Pawis-Steckley’s nan’s beach on Wasauksing First Nation. Design elements on the sheath reference and honour their Métis and Anishinaabe heritage and shared journey as parents. Meanwhile, the elbow-length white gloves, beaded by Margaretta for her great great grandmother, embody the Michif matriarchs whose labour in raising families upholds Métis nationhood. The worn, olive-coloured tent belonging to Margaretta’s grandfather sets a warm and earthy tone to the image, reminiscent of her ancestral homelands in St. Louis, Saskatchewan. Together, the axe, glove, and tent carry the past into the present, envisioning new worlds for holding and dreaming with their daughter. "

As Florence sails back to England in 1925, she takes with her a portrait of three generations of Darlington women. For perhaps the final time that they they will be together, the three of them sat in front of St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana to have their photograph taken.

The three generations have stretched two centuries, five decades, and two continents: the eldest, Florence herself, born on the outskirts of Windenburg, England in 1872; secondly, her daughter Zelda, born deep in the British countryside of Henford-on-Bagley in 1901; and finally, the youngest member of the family and the next heir of the Darlington legacy, Violette Darlington-Duplanchier, born in New Orleans in 1924.

When the Prince of Wales unexpectedly pulled out of attending a memorial service for his godfather King Constantine of Greece last month, there was widespread speculation it was connected to the death of Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Windsor.

It has now emerged that the unspecified “personal reason” given for his absence from St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Feb 27 was that his wife, the Princess of Wales, had recently received a cancer diagnosis.

Having undergone major abdominal surgery at the London Clinic in January, which was deemed a success, post-operative tests discovered that cancer had been present, contrary to all pre-operative tests – and a statement from Kensington Palace – that had suggested her condition was not cancer.

As the Princess herself said, in a video message updating the nation on her condition, it came as “a huge shock” and she is now in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy treatment.

The news of the Princess’s cancer – which comes on top of the King’s cancer diagnosis in January – comes at a difficult time for the Royal family but also explains much of the mystery that has prompted wild speculation about the Princess’s health in recent weeks, including, perhaps, the now infamous doctored Mothering Sunday picture of her.

The fury in royal circles over the controversy the picture generated is more understandable in the light of what we now know.

The Prince of Wales was trying to protect his wife at a time when she was at her most vulnerable, and together, they were trying to find a way of telling their children about their mother’s medical diagnosis.

The Princess said in her video statement:

“It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

Whether or not the photograph was altered by the Princess to hide any tell-tale signs of her treatment we may never find out, but what was driving the anger at the international response to the touched-up image of the Princess and her three children now becomes clear.

While internet trolls were speculating that the Princess had faked the picture because she was not well enough to pose for one, or even that she was dead, the couple and their staff were having to bite their tongues, primarily for the sake of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The fact that the Princess has only released details of her cancer diagnosis on the day her children have broken up from school for Easter is no coincidence.

Royal aides said the couple wanted to be able to tell their children at a time that was right for them and to “understand and process” the news before it became public.

Only after the children had finished school for Easter did they feel that it was “the right time to share this update.”

Aides have made it clear that the decision to go public about the cancer diagnosis and the timing of it had nothing to do with the ongoing speculation about Catherine’s health.

We still do not know what the Princess’s surgery involved.

On January 17, Kensington Palace announced that she had undergone “planned” abdominal surgery the previous day and that it was expected she would remain in hospital for 10-14 days before returning home to continue her recovery.

The statement released at the time said:

“Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

Prince William visited his wife in hospital and postponed his public engagements to be by her side.

The Princess was discharged from the London Clinic on January 29, the same day that the King was discharged after treatment for a benign enlarged prostate.

He too later discovered he had cancer, in his case, unconnected to the prostate issue for which he had been treated.

The Prince of Wales returned to public duties on February 7, attending a dinner in aid of London Air Ambulance, where he thanked the public for their messages of support for his wife.

At that stage, neither he nor the Princess had any idea that cancer had been present at the time of her surgery.

They would only find that out at the end of February, royal aides have said.

It was shortly after the cancer was discovered in post-operative tests that the Princess began her course of chemotherapy.

When Prince William missed King Constantine’s memorial service, just hours before the announcement of the death of Mr Kingston, Kensington Palace said that the Princess “continues to be doing well.”

Two days later, on February 29, the Palace felt the need to make a further statement in response to the online speculation about her health, saying that it would only provide “significant updates” and not a running commentary.

On March 4, she was spotted in the passenger seat of a car driven by Carole Middleton, her mother, near the Princess’s home in Windsor.

It now seems likely that the Princess was making visits to see her cancer specialist during this period.

She was also seen in the back of a car with her husband on the day of the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, which he attended but she did not, on March 11.

On March 5, there was what seemed at the time to be a curious incident involving plans for Trooping the Colour in June.

The Army released details on its website of ticketing arrangements, accompanied by a photograph of the Princess who, it said, would be reviewing troops from the Irish Guards on June 8, a week before Trooping itself.

After objections from Kensington Palace, which had not confirmed her appearance at the event, all references to the Princess were removed from the website.

The reason for the Palace’s nervousness over any promises about her public engagements even as far away as June is now clear.

Then came the release on March 10 of the Mothering Sunday photograph, which was withdrawn by picture agencies because of signs it had been digitally manipulated.

As it made headlines around the world, the Princess issued a personal apology for any “confusion” the picture had caused, saying that she would sometimes “experiment with editing” like many amateur photographers.

The photograph itself had been taken by Prince William.

The Princess’s statement did nothing to quell the speculation about her health, and on March 20, the London Clinic announced that it had informed the Information Commissioner of an unauthorised attempt to access Catherine’s medical records.

No date was given for when the alleged security breach happened, but it now seems likely that some staff at the clinic would have been aware that the Princess’s treatment and recovery had not been as straightforward as first thought.

By last weekend, the Princess felt well enough to accompany her husband on a trip to their local farm shop in Windsor, where they were filmed by a member of the public, who passed the footage on to The Sun newspaper.

The Princess was smiling and appeared relaxed, though she appeared to have lost weight.

There were cruel jibes online suggesting she should be back at work if she was well enough to be out shopping.

The video emerged after Kensington Palace had declined to comment on whether the Princess would join the Royal family at the traditional Easter Sunday church service in Windsor, saying a decision had not yet been made.

That guidance has now changed. The Palace now says there are no plans for the Waleses to attend the Easter Matins service in Windsor.

On Wednesday, rumours swept media circles that the BBC had been told to prepare for a big announcement of some sort.

It now turns out that Wednesday was the day a crew from BBC Studios, sworn to total secrecy, was summoned to Windsor to film the Princess making her video message.

Her plea for “time, space and privacy” to recover was the first time she had spoken to the public, albeit indirectly, since attending church at Sandringham on Christmas Day last year.

The Prince will return to work after the couple’s children have returned to school following the Easter holidays.

He will balance supporting his wife and his children and his public duties in the same way that he has been since the start of the year.

Thursday Thoughts: Israel Story

When I was thirteen, my grandparents took the family on a big anniversary trip to Israel.

As a Jewish American kid in the early 2000s, growing up where there weren’t a lot of other Jews and spending my summers at Reform Jewish summer camp, I was told a lot of things about Israel. The big thing was always that Israel was important – that it was our home. That I should go there, and that when I went there, I would have an amazing feeling of connection, and I would know that it was my home.

So, as a recent bat mitzvah, I was excited about this trip. I was ready to go to Israel and have my big moment of feeling connected with the world.

I remember standing in the airport in Tel Aviv, minutes after stepping off the plane, and asking my dad, “When does it start to feel like Israel?”

Because it didn’t feel like Israel. It felt like an airport.

And then we stepped out into Tel Aviv, and rode around on a bus, and it felt like a city. I’d been to cities before. It was cool to see the street signs and graffiti were in Hebrew and Arabic just as much as they were in English, but it was a city.

Over the course of our trip, we went everywhere we could possibly go. We floated in the Dead Sea. We climbed Mount Masada. We saw the archaeological sites at Megiddo. We went to Caesarea, and Ein Gedi, and Yad Vashem, and Tzfat. We rode camels, we ate falafel, we learned just how unbreakable Druze glass is.

And, again, it was cool. I enjoyed the trip. It was beautiful everywhere we went, and we were surrounded by history everywhere we went. I remember thinking that the dust of history was gathering in my boots, because this is a place where people have lived for as long as there have been people.

But I kept waiting for it to feel like Israel – to have that big magical moment of connection that everyone said I would have – and it just wasn’t happening.

Then, we went to Jerusalem. And I thought, “Okay, here it is. This is where I’m going to have my big moment.” We went to the Western Wall, the last remaining piece of the platform that surrounded the ancient temple, the holiest place any Jew could visit in the world. I saw people there, pressed against the wall, eyes shut, in fervent prayer, clearly feeling something amazing. I walked up through the crowd in the small women’s section of the wall. I found enough space to reach forward, and I put my hand on the wall.

It felt like rock.

I remember thinking, “What is wrong with me, that all I feel is rock? Where is the connection I’m supposed to feel?”

And then, on our last day of the trip, we went to the Diaspora Museum (Beit Hatfutsot, now called the Museum of the Jewish People). It’s all about the Jewish people – our exile from that part of the world, and all our journeys since then. I’d never seen such a comprehensive look at the diversity and history of Judaism before. I’d certainly never been to a museum before that provided such an honest critique of the United States – it’s where I first learned about the SS St. Louis.

There was one room in the museum that caught my attention. I don’t know if it was a permanent installment or a temporary exhibit; I haven’t been back there since. In the room, there was a screen on the wall, rotating through pictures in a slideshow. Some of them were drawings, while others were photographs. All of the pictures were of the insides of people’s houses – their kitchens and dining rooms. Each picture was labeled with a place and a time. This was Poland, this was Spain. This was the fifteenth, eighteenth, twentieth century.

These pictures were from all across the world and all across history. And, in every picture, three items were circled in red: the challah loaf, the kiddush cup, and the Shabbat candlesticks.

As I stood there, watching these pictures, it hit me – slowly, and then all at once – that I had those things in my house. I was connected to every single place, and every single time, all across the world, all across history.

That was it. That was my moment, the completely mind-blowing and earth-shattering realization. That connection through tradition – that’s what it meant to be a Jew. I felt then a supreme sense of belonging, of being grounded, of being a part of something so much bigger than myself – something that mattered, something that was made of love, something that could never die. That realization has stuck with me ever since.

I told this story on TikTok on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Chapter 18 of The Mandalorian aired, and I marveled at the serendipity. I’ve talked here before about the connections I’ve noticed between the Mandalorians as depicted in this series and Judaism. We too were scattered. Our holy sites were destroyed. We are diverse, and disparate, and faced with the question of what to do now, in a world that hates us, hurts us, and demands that we too become hateful and hurtful. And we are united – we are grounded – we are able to survive because of the stories, the traditions, the rituals at the heart of our people.

Peterhoff Palace Complex

Photographs: Different views of Peterhof, which, rather than one specific place, is an astoundingly beautiful complex of palaces, gardens, pavilions, and fountains. The photos here and the text are a mere preview of a fraction of the place in all its grandeur.

The Grand Palace, Lower and Upper Gardens and Fountains

The Peterhoff Palace (which comes from the Dutch "Pieterhof," meaning "Pieter's Court") is a complex of palaces, gardens, pavilions, and fountains located in Petergof, Saint Petersburg, Russia, commissioned by Peter the Great in response to Louis XIV Palace of Versailles in France.

Peter the Great began constructing his new capital, St. Petersburg, in 1703 after successfully adding Swedish provinces to Russian territory. Saint Petersburg allowed Russian access to the Baltic Sea through the Neva River that flowed to the Gulf of Finland.

Throughout the early 18th century, Peter the Great built and expanded the Peterhof Palace complex. Based on his sketches, he constructed the Monplaisir Palace (French: "my delight"). This would be Peter's summer retreat that he would use on his way coming and going from Europe. Later, he expanded his plans to include a group of palaces and gardens further inland, on the model of Versailles.

Most of the Peterhoff land is comprised of what is called the "Lower Gardens." In the middle of the lower gardens is the Grand Palace. The area behind this palace is the "Upper Gardens" and is comparatively smaller. The Grand Palace is not the only historic royal building in Peterhoff. The palaces of Monplaisir and Marli, as well as the pavilion known as the 'Hermitage,' were all raised during the initial construction of Peterhoff during the reign of Peter the Great.

There are a number of cascades and fountains through the grounds, which have various symbolic meanings and are in themselves great technological achievements. The greatest of these is that all of the fountains in Peterhoff operate without the use of pumps. Water is supplied from natural springs and collects in reservoirs in the Upper Gardens. The elevation difference creates the pressure that drives most of the fountains of the Lower Gardens.

Alexandria Park, the Cottage Palace, and the Farmers Palace

To the east of the main park at Peterhof lies an expanse of landscaped parkland in the English style, named after Alexandra Fedorovna, wife of Nicholas I. The land was used as a royal hunting ground for most of the 18th century and left to go wild after the court moved to Tsarskoe Selo.

In 1825, the land was passed to Nicholas I, who commissioned a Scottish architect and landscape gardener to create an English-style estate with a "cottage" palace and home farm. This was partly a concession to Alexandra (nee Charlotte of Prussia), who found the pomp and grandeur of court life oppressive. Alexandra loved the cottage. The Cottage Palace was completed in 1829 and became the permanent summer residence of the Tsar's family. Alexandria Park is one of the best-landscaped parks on the outskirts of St. Petersburg.

The building is equal parts seaside villa, Gothic castle, and English farmhouse, but extremely elegant, with several charming decorative details. The palace's interiors exemplify the private tastes of Nicholas and Alexandra and their children and grandchildren. The spectacular trompe l'oeil murals around the staircase, depicting gothic arches and vaults, and Nicholas's Naval Study, with superb views over the Gulf of Finland, are particularly impressive.

The Farm Palace was initially a pavilion in Alexandria Park close to the Cottage Palace and Gothic Chapel. Meant to be a pastoral farm with a row of household buildings, it was later expanded into a summer residence for the family of Tsesarevich Alexander Alexandrovich of Russia. The palace became the favorite summer residence of Alexander II and his family. After many reconstructions, the house was named "The Farm Palace" in 1859. It would eventually be a favorite of Alexander III and Nicholas II.

The Lower Dacha at Peterhoff (badly damaged in World War II and destroyed in the 1960s) - in the process of reconstruction

The Lower Dacha was in Alexandria Park, part of the Peterhof complex created by Tsar Peter I in the early 18th century as an Imperial summer residence. The palace was the home of Tsar Nicholas II while in residence at Peterhof (it was built for him), and several of his children were born there. It was badly damaged during the Second World War and was destroyed in the 1960s. The Lower Dacha is in the process of being restored. It is expected that the restoration will be completed by 2025. The picture below where the intact building can be seen, is from the early twentieth century. Photographs of the ruins have been included as well.

June 2nd - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis attended Trooping the Colour, the first engagement of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. While William participated in the parade, Catherine and the children rode in a carriage with The Duchess of Cornwall. The five Cambridges joined the other working royals on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a flypast June 3rd - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined members of the royal family at a National Service of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in St Paul’s Cathedral. They then attended a reception given by the Lord Mayor of London at Guildhall. During the day, Catherine visited her patronage, Evelina London, to meet with children and families who would be unable to participate in the jubilee celebrations otherwise June 4th - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte visited Cardiff Castle, and watched a practice of a later 'jubilee concert'. They also later attended the BBC Concert at Buckingham Palace to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee June 5th - Kensington Palace released photographs of Catherine, George, Charlotte, and Louis baking cakes for the Big Jubilee Lunch. Later that morning, William and Catherine made an unexpected visited at the Kensington Memorial Garden street party. That afternoon, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis attended the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, before joining the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and HM The Queen on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the finale of the Platinum Jubilee June 7th - The Duchess of Cambridge, in her role as Patron of the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, held a video meeting with Professor Eamon McCrory, Dr Alain Grégoire, and Kelly Beaver. In the same role, she then held an Early Years Meeting. Finally, she received Lady Pinsent, Trustee of the Royal Foundation June 8th - The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, visited Little Village June 13th - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a Chapter of the Most Noble Order of the Garter June 14th - The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance UK, held a video meeting with Dr Alain Gregoire, Luciana Berger and Laura Seebohm. The Kneeling Man by Leta McCollough Seletzky

In the famous photograph of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. on the balcony of Memphis’s Lorraine Motel, one man kneeled down beside King, trying to staunch the blood from his fatal head wound with a borrowed towel.

This kneeling man was a member of the Invaders, an activist group that was in talks with King in the days leading up to the murder. But he also had another identity: an undercover Memphis police officer reporting on the activities of this group, which was thought to be possibly dangerous and potentially violent. This kneeling man is Leta McCollough Seletzky’s father.

Marrell McCollough was a Black man working secretly with the white power structure, a spy. This was so far from her understanding of what it meant to be Black in America, of everything she eventually devoted her life and career to, that she set out to learn what she could about his life, his actions and motivations. But with that decision came risk. What would she uncover about her father, who went on to a career at the CIA, and did she want to bear the weight of knowing?

Lang Family Headcanons

Here’s some headcanons about Scott’s parents and sister no one asked for! Lol

Scott’s dad’s name is Charlie Lang, and he’s a deadbeat.

Four years after Scott was born, Charlie really started to let his true colors shine - or rather darken everything.

He became an alcoholic and was verbally abusive. When Scott was eleven, Charlie finally crossed the line and became physically abusive.

That’s when Scott’s parents got a divorce.

The Lang side of the family really wasn’t a fan of Charlie either, and unfortunately because of that, they never really were sure what to make of his wife and children either.

Some days they were fine with them, and some days they were just as bad as their son towards them.

His mom’s name is Coraline Lang, but her parents and friends call her Cori.

She’s got a nomadic soul, and she prefers to wander and explore instead of settle down.

Which is why after she divorced Charlie, she and her kids lived in four other cities all over the US before settling in San Francisco.

When Scott was eleven, they left Coral Gables, FL and moved to St. Louis, MO until he was 13.

Then they moved to Nashville, TN and stayed there until Scott was 14.

Then they moved up to Boston, MA but only stayed there for 6 months, and before Scott turned 15, they hopped across the country to Seattle, WA.

Then three months after Scott turned 16, they moved to San Francisco where Cori’s children begged her to please let this be where they stay until at least Scott graduates high school.

Thankfully, she agreed.

She loves photography, and she’s a hobbyist photographer. She loves taking photos of places she’s been and things she’s seen.

Cori currently is back in Seattle and has stayed there for the past five years, but her children say it’s only a matter of time before she’s on the road again.

Sadie was born September 9, 1976, and eventually she demanded her parents give her someone to play with. She didn’t care if it was a sister or brother, she just wanted a sibling.

During Cori’s entire pregnancy with Scott, Cori would point to her belly and say, “Who’s in there?” and Sadie would answer in three different ways: baby Scott, Scotty, or little “bwudder”

Scott was born April 6, 1980, and Sadie was so in awe of him when she first saw him.

“He’s a real baby, Momma!”

While Sadie was one of those kids who got jealous of all the attention the baby sibling was getting, she was also jealous of anyone else besides her giving Scott the attention.

She practically claimed him as hers from the start.

She settled on Scotty over any other nickname early on, and she tried to get him to say her name first before Momma or Dada.

No such luck though. Momma was his first word, but Sadie was a close second. It sounded a bit like “seedy”, but it was close enough they knew what he meant.

Once Cori divorced and left Charlie, she was a single mom who had one or sometimes two jobs.

So Sadie and Scott had to pull some more weight for the family. This is where Scott’s cooking skills really develop and flourish.

Sadie is a decent cook, but her mastery is in baking.

Between the two of them, as long as there was food in the apartment, the meals wouldn’t be boring.

Sadie loves golf. She loves to play, and that’s the only sport she showed any interest in.

She went to almost all of Scott’s baseball games, and he went to some of her golf matches (if the school they were enrolled in at the time had a golf team anyway).
