Saint Arnold of Soissons
1040-1087
Feast Day: August 14
Patronage: brewers, hop pickers, millers, music, to find lost articles
Saint Arnold (Arnulf) of Soissons had been a career soldier before he became a Benedictine hermit at the Abby of St. Medard in Soissons, France, where he reluctantly accepted the role of Abbot. When the abbey changed bishops, St. Arnold founded another abbey, St.Peter in Oudenburg, Flanders. It was here that he enthusiastically brewed a low alcohol beer that even protected the locals from the plague (from the bad pathogens in the water.) Once when the abbey roof collapsed and destroyed the stored beer, he prayed that the supply be restored, which happily it was.

PSA FOR THOSE WHO ARE BEING FORCED TO BE CONFIRMED via /r/atheism
Submitted December 14, 2019 at 03:39AM by VaultWarrior77 (Via reddit https://ift.tt/2srPQ2Y) PSA FOR THOSE WHO ARE BEING FORCED TO BE CONFIRMED
For your patron saint, choose either St. Albinus of Angers, the patron saint against pirate attacks(and the real St. Anger) or St. Arnold of Soissons, the patron saint of beer, because if you’re gonna have to choose a saint, make it fun right? Plus, pirates are bad.

A brief history of St. Arnold of Soissons
So many of you fellow Houstonians have heard of the Saint Arnold Brewing Company, that one brewery in particular with many of my favorite beers. But I could tell Y'all really never heard of the company’s namesake, St. Arnold of Soissons, now my favorite saint by the way, so after intense hours of scholarly research that totally does not involve any form of wikipedia or company storytime, I shall conduct a brief history lesson about The Patron Saint Of Brewers.
Born circa 1040 in the county of Brabant, in what is today Belgium, Arnold was a career soldier prior to settling down in  Benedictine St. Medard's Abbey, Soissons, France. Spending his first three years as a hermit, he would later rise to be abbot of the monastery, not before fleeing and being forced by a wolf to return as legend had it, he would then become a priest, and in 1080 a bishop. During this time, he brewed one of man’s greatest inventions, beer, keeping in mind nearly everyone older than 3 months and their mommas drank this golden nectar, mainly due to the fact water treatment facilities did not exist back then, and pretty much everyone did god knows what in those lakes and rivers, and since brewing beer, and later on tea and coffee, required heating water to the point of killing off those pesky bacteria, beer was the main staple of any medieval person’s diet. Arnold, after seeing many people become sick after drinking water, for said above reason, began discouraging the folks to drink such nasty water and extolling the virtues of this life-saver, and thus many people who followed his recommendation survived much of the plagues that went on during this time period.
According to legend, and the Catholic church, when Arnold kicked the bucket, his pallbearers had to carry him a long distance up the hill to his final resting place. During this time the pallbearers were very thirsty but alas there was only one mug to split amongst the 9 men carrying his dead carcass up a huge hill. but then a miracle came to pass, the mug never ran dry and every member of the pallbearers was satisfied and was able to finish the journey, and that’s how the bishop of metz...wait, bishop of Metz, I thought it was bishop of Soissons. *Looks up research documents, realizing I fouled up.* OH, YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! WHY IN THE NAME OF SAM HOUSTON IS THERE TWO SAINT ARNOLD OF BREWINGS?!?! AND BOTH IN FRANCE NO LESS...SERIOUSLY WHAT THE F...*Transmission Lost.*

When the abbey changed bishops, St. Arnold founded another abbey, St.Peter in Oudenburg, Flanders. Happy Feast Day Saint Arnold of Soissons 1040-1087 Feast Day: August 14 Patronage: brewers, hop pickers, millers, music, to find lost articles
Saint Arnold (Arnulf) of Soissons had been a career soldier before he became a Benedictine hermit at the Abby of St. Medard in Soissons, France, where he reluctantly accepted the role of Abbot. When the abbey changed bishops, St. Arnold founded another abbey, St.Peter in Oudenburg, Flanders. It was here that he enthusiastically brewed a low alcohol beer that even protected the locals from the plaque (from the bad pathogens in the water.) Once when the abbey roof collapsed and destroyed the stored beer, he prayed that the supply be restored, which happily it was. {website}
