Why do they call those cheesy-sleazy pseudo-historical romance novels "bodice rippers", anyway? (No offense to anyone who reads them, I have been known to partake of raunchy Regencies with certain regularity; this is about the nickname.)

I mean, really, have you ever looked closely at an actual bodice? Those things are some serious garment construction right there. Ask anyone who knows something about sewing.

They're built to keep the boobage in place and help shape the torso, so they're pretty tough material... and that's without taking any boning (not that kind! the stuff that makes corsets keep their shape!) into account.

Dude, there is NO way anyone is just ripping one open without a very sharp blade through either the lacing or the fabric, and it will probably end with a bleeding lady who doesn't much feel like putting out for Sir Slice-a-lot.

The Way of the Granite Guardian - Homebrew Monk Subclass by Nines

Always was a fan of the "Medusa was actually blessed by Athena to protect her" interpretation. It kinda falls to pieces when you realize that Athena was also the one that sent Perseus to kill her, though. Just like Perseus falls to pieces in this image. I guess you could write it as an attempt to fake her death?...

The idea of the Granite was actually inspired by a game called Slice and Dice. Not exactly a lot of story to it, but it's a pretty fun little dice-rolling roguelike.

The nature of this subclass gives you an unusual combination of durability and mobility, making you a frontliner and defender unlike any other in D&D. If you want to be particularly cheesy, you can use your mobility to run away from your allies, forcing enemy combatants to redirect their melee attacks far away from the rest of the party.

The 3rd level abilities of this subclass are definitely extremely loaded; half of Granite's Blessing just makes you immune to Petrification's downsides - though, notably, not advantage on attacks made against you, which helps to further redirect attacks towards yourself. You give up a lot of things for this powerful protection, though. While you can redirect as many attacks to yourself as you want per turn, you're still a bit less bulky than a Barbarian just by virtue of the difference in hit dice, and being attacked by every single enemy on the map can be rough even with the resistance afforded by petrification. You also give up nearly all of your action economy for these defenses, so you won't be throwing out nearly as many Flurries of Blows or Stunning Strikes, which might be a better use of ki in some encounters.

The "unintended side effect" bit of the 6th level feature is just because I thought it would be funny. You petrified your face too many times and now you're literally too stony-faced to laugh.

“DRAGON! Everyone, spread out!”

The party scattered at the sight of the enormous red dragon towering over them. To their surprise, the monster began the fight not with its characteristic fire breath, but rather a noxious cloud of poison gas.

“Everyone, behind me!” The same noble fighter who had warned the others about the threat now took charge once more, raising their enchanted shield to absorb the brunt of the attack. With the beast briefly winding itself from its attack, the adventurers took a moment to regroup.

“Great job, Prince,” rasped a ghoulish-looking fellow near the rear of the formation. “I take it you’re volunteering to bravely lead us here?”

“I’ve done so before, Ghast, and I’ll do so- Oof!” Prince flinched from an arrow glancing harmlessly off their crown. They were unharmed, but now they fruitlessly looked around for the shooter. “Did anyone see…? Ah, my poor crown…”

“Yeah. It’s Archer. And a Caw.” A mage with long grey hair waved to the side of the still-recovering dragon. There, trying and failing to hide behind one of the monster’s massive legs, was an ashen gray elf in archer’s garb. And to their side was a large blue bird, squawking angrily at the adventurers.

“Er, hello, Fate.” The attacker sheepishly lowered their bow before returning the wave.

“Archer,” Witch greeted stoically in return. “I’m surprised to see you here. I would’ve thought the dragon might just see you or that Caw as a snack.”

“Well, I don’t know about the Caw, but the dragon’s always been super-friendly to me!”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“Oh, right. Ah, it’s super-friendly, once you get past the whole ‘eating adventurers whole’ thing.”

Fate bit back a sardonic laugh as they readied a healing spell with their staff. “Let’s agree to disagree. Regardless, I take it you’ll continue firing at us, here?”

“Oh, of course! Just like you’ll probably try and kill me!”

“Of course,” Fate repeated, with a wry smile. “All right, team. Let’s slay a dragon…and company!”

The others readied their weapons and spells. Meanwhile, the dragon finally recovered, the Caw gave a shrill warning screech, and Archer quickly nocked another arrow.

[I’m branching out! Slice and Dice is a cool game! Also, I’ve always found it funny that there’s just a random Archer and Caw in the Dragon fight!]

For context, I beat the boss fight by spending 27 of that 843 mana spamming Crush. I only needed 3.2% of that.
