I loved this so much that I had to post this from a dear herbal friend @justagarden … it’s the perfect thing to do with old unmatched silver knives…. This is shared with her permission❤️ “ I grew up in the 40’s, 50’s & 60’s. Sterling silver at the dinner table wasn’t a ‘thing’ in our home. For years Mother set a fancy table for company with our nice silver plate 🍴🥄 ! As a kid I took all these things for granted never knowing their origin until one day several years ago at a Herb Society of America craft fair I happened upon a crafter who had made Tussie Mussie 💐holders with vintage silverware from hollow silver plate flat wear. As soon as I spotted Mother’s pattern I was absolutely spun back in time! I shed a few tears as I explained that was the same pattern I grew up using in my childhood home. The crafter had cut the hollow handle , put a fastening magnet on the back & turned it into a small vase to hold a tiny bit of water for a few flower stems to wear on ones lapel. 💐 I cherish this little work of art and have permanently filied it with some beaded flowers I made. This 1903’s pattern is now vintage , like me, although I’m not Art Deco ! I’ll never know Mother and Daddy’s origin purchase of this pattern but I do know we eventually got a set of ‘real’ silver Daddy could afford from a Pawn Shop in Lawton, Oklahoma and there was an upgrade to our ‘Company’s Coming ‘ dinner table. The upgrade set lives in my silverwear cabinet and makes more frequent appearances than it did when Mother was ‘saving’ it. I found out from my Google search : ‘Guild also known as Cadence was patented in 1932 by the International Silver Company and carries the important eagle Wm. Rogers Star sectional backstamp.’ It is sold now on Etsy sites and very reasonable however no money could buy these sweet memories. 🍽 #tussiemussie #silverplate #silverflatware #herbs #herbalfriends #herbladies #dinnerknives #tussiemussie #thelanguageofflowers #crafts #lapelpins #brooches (at The Herban Inn) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZukwRLpX5T/?utm_medium=tumblr
